| said: This holiday was excellent from start to finish. The airport at Faro is the most efficient I have ever been to, we collected luggage within 10 mins and were at the hotel within 45mins. Brilliant start. On arrival the hotel was on a steep bank, as there are 3 levels as such to the complex. Ok there are steps and slopes, but they are not too bad. The main block, Block 1 is in the middle, with block 2 being lower and nearer the road. The third level consisted of a pool, splash pools for the kiddies and the water park area. Both block of accomodation had a reception and bars, plus swimming pools.
We stayed in Block 1, the pool was fantastic, loads of sunbeds and parasols (but we did go when schools had returned in Sept), the hotel was clean and the staff very polite. The First choice reps were excellent, always on hand and the Entertainment Team need a massive pat on the back - they were fantastic whatever time of day you saw them they were great. (Ruth, Lyndsey, Billy, Phil, Danni, Olly - sorry I can't remember anymore names), but they were great, the kids bonded with them and they never stopped entertaining! Made the holiday.
The food isn't fantastic, but you must remember you are going to a hotel that is catering for hundreds of people and it is buffet style (you have one night a week at the Portugese and Italian - we only used the Italian - this was lovely, although the service a little slow). There were different dishes on the buffet each day, and they were forever re-freshing the displays. Always hot and plenty to choose from so not has bad as the other reports are saying.
The location isn't the best in the world, but often due to the size of the complex they are often on the outskirts! We only went for 1 week, and didn't feel the need to leave the complex, so much to do all day. There are lots of trips laid on, and other guests were impressed with those. There is a good taxi service into the town for about 4€ and the old town is supposed to be beautiful. The beach is a short 15 min walk away but you do need to go down quite a few steps, it is very clean and pretty, but again we only mad the trip once and it was too hot to stay with little kids, but again too much fuss being made from earlier reports.
This is a fantastic location for a great family holiday and I would definately recommend it to others, we will definately go back.

| said: Just returned yesterday, overall had an excellent holiday.
Room spacious and clean, stayed in a kids den and as we were all inclusive and not cooking kitchen cuoboards provided additional storage. Maid came every day except sunday, clean towels everday and linen every other day. As we had kids den able to hire PS2 which kept kids boredom at bay for an hour in the evening when getting ready.
Food was OK, always fouind something to eat, went to italian twice which was nice and also into town to eat a couple of times.
Pools great, didnt use pool at block 2 mainly used splash park and pool at block 1 but be warned they are freezing and must be the coldest pools I've ever been in.
Hotel staff, waiters and bar staff all very friendly and polite - earlier reports I had read suggested otherwise but we had no problems at all.
Kids clud and kids rep all fantastic, youngest aged 6 not really bothered about going but my older boy had a ball and went to everything on offer. He did aqua olympics, sea scooters, PSP tournament, archery and the high ropes twice, both boys did soccer school and loved it.
Evening entertainment was enjoyable and entertainment team really good, my youngest was always a bit star struck whenever any of them were in the vicinity.
Only negative was being woken early every morning (around 7) by kids running and screaming along the corrider, our room was quite near the lift. This was really frustrating as I always made sure my 2 boys were quiet to make sure that we did not disturb other guests, just wish other parents thought the way we did.
All in all did have a great time and would visit this holiday village again.

| said: Having been reading the reviews on this site and others, I started of the year slightly apprehensive about this holiday, but as the season progressed the reviews got better and I was a bit more relaxed.
I have to say that we had nothing to worry about. The hotel was excellent and we had a marvelous time.
The rooms are extremely spacious. Only critisim if any would be a slight lack of cupboard space, particulary hanging space. For a family of four, one hanging rail is not generous.
Apart from this the rooms are excellent and well equipped. Telly had British kids channels which served to keep the kids amused while we showered in the evenings.
All building work seemed to have been completed before we got there with just some general maintenance going on. The hotel grounds are extremely well kept making it a lovely environment.
There is a large range of pools (all of which quite cold). My kids initially loved the new splash park but as the holiday progressed seem to prefer the big main pool as there was quite a bit going on all the time. Especially around lunch time with the daily quiz and of course the Head To Head Show down where the entertainmnets team and guests faced various competative challenges.
MOves me nicely on to the entertainments. The resident team lead by Ruth are excellent and produced a lot of good quality shows. Evening starts with the mini disco which the kids loved (I quite enjoyed the grab a grown up bit as well if truth be known), followed by the "Big Bucks Bingo", followed by an audience participation game show and then the main event. This was the occassional "Proffssional Act" but mostly put on by the Team, Ruth, Silly Billy, Danielle, Lindzy, Phil and DJ Daryl. Most of the shows the team put on were excellent.
The food, although not the best I have had was more than adequate and we always managed to find something to eat. Contrary to previous reviews, I managed to eat Chips only twice during the holiday and found plenty of alternatives, Rice, Pasta, Roast new potatoes etc. The Menu's were a bit predictable but that was not too much of a problem. More of an effort could have been made on desserts, quite often the kids went without. This would have been easily fixed simply by making sure Ice Cream was avaialble every night in the restaurant. First Choice surveyed twice during our stay on the food and are obviously treating previous critisism seriously.
Stayed in the Majorca Holiday Village last year which is slightly remote, on the outskirts of Ca'n picafort. No surprise then that the Algarve Holiday village is slightly remote from the main resort centre. In fact this is the case for all of the european Holiday villages, which is why they tend to be spacious and well equipped. I expected the remote location and was happy to accept this as a trade off for having spacious and well equipped hotel.
All in all an excellent holiday, and I would go back to HV Algarve. Have already booked for HV Costa Del Sol for next year

The kids entertainment is brilliant my daughter loved Billy he was fab, kids club great and new splash pool is brilliant however getting very busy there now. Hotel facilities are very good and rooms spacious with Cbeebies, Cbbc , BBC1 and BBC3 on the tv, i do agree that the hotel does have some teething troubles and i would return but not for a few years.

| said: This is a fantastic hotel, wonderful for the children with so much to do. Lovely swimming pools and a newly built pool with slides etc. Loads of kids clubs you can sign up for, drama, football, art and crafts are just some. Also a late club from 9pm until 11pm so you can chill whilst the children enjoy themselves. Although these clubs are not free, around 8 euros each session I think. The rooms are the best we have ever stayed in, very large, modern and clean with double balcony. Cleaning service is very good. The entertainments team were fantastic, although its always the same, kids disco, bingo, interaction with guests and then show. Unless you get down to the entertainments venue (which is inside)very early you probably won't get a seat. Although this did not bother us because we spent many evenings in resort.
If you are going out its really difficult to get a taxi, especially between 7 and 8pm. We had to wait an hour on a few occasions. The hotel only knew of 2 taxi firms and these were constantly busy. This hotel is abit out of the way and its a good 25 minute walk to the stip up and down hill, you can't do it during the day because its too hot.
The worst thing about this hotel is definately the food. Its all very much the same night after night. The childrens menu only consists of chips, burger, sausages and fishfingers and the odd pasta dish. The adult menu is not much better, basically if they have stuff left over from lunch its used in another dish for dinner. The food lets this hotel down big time.

| said: What a fantastic holiday, no need to worry about negative reviews.
The hotel was very clean, modern, bright and well maintained, the rooms were spacious and very modern. The only problem we would have with it is the lack of disabled access and facilities. Most of the complex is cobbled/blocked paving which is very rough for wheelchairs, I found it very painful to be pushed over them. Any ramps they did have were not of the correct gradient and could be very dangerous, my hubby had to take me down backwards but he found it very slippy. Would have been impossible for people who didn't have a carer with them. The entertainment complex did not have a ramp to get in and there are no accessible toilets, they are all up a flight of stairs, the only toilet was back in reception. To be fair, the reps (Dave, Ellie and Kate) and their manager (Lindsay) were very helpful and even took me in the car from block 1 to 2 for the themed restaraunts. They were looking into getting ramps made for a woman who had arrived the day we left and was in a power skooter.
Moan over, if I was able bodied this was one of the best holidays we've been on. The restaraunt is very nice, the food is adequate for what we required and the staff were lovely.
The entertainment both day and night was fabulous, the teams worked there socks off and nothing is ever too much for them. The kids loved Gladiators when all kids and adults were able to join in with activities such as tug of war, target practice and best belly flops. To top it of, the team wear the kiddies tshirts and hats they look so funny.
We did a few trips, Zoomarine was amazing, the Jeep Safari was great, they even put my wheelchair in the back and I got to sit up front where it was more comfy.
Good luck to all who are going and say hi to the team from us.

| said: I have just got back from this hotel and to be honest If I had listened to the feedback on this hotel that have been placed on some sites I probably would not have gone. Having already been to a Holiday village a couple of years ago and enjoyed It I didnt hesitate about going again.
This hotel was fantastic the entertainment team was brill and the kids loved it (Big thanks to Billy, Ruthy, Phil, Lindsey and Danielle) they were the entertainers on the evening they work so hard to keep the kids entertained and when they had finshed for the night they would take time out and come round and chat to the people that where left which I thought was a nice touch.
The in2action team that work through the day are awesome too. The kids clubs are excellent and give the kids something else to do other than being in the pool all day. The splash pool is complete now and there are a couple of slides that kids will love (and the adults too). There is a little bit of work being done on the hotel still but it is only adding some extra fencing, railings etc.
We were in block 2 which is about 1 minute walk to the resturant but this block is quieter. If I am to be honest I liked the food but thought they could just do with having a bit more variety as it did get a bit repetative. I can understand if it is not to everyones taste though.
The hotel staff where friendly but as other people have said the hotel is not in a prime location. Albufeira is about 20/25 mins walk i would say but then i didnt go to this hotel so i could walk everywhere. All in all we had a excellent time and we are booking to go back in the September so it cannot be all bad.

| said: I have recentley travelled back from the Holiday Village Algarve with my family.
I was very worried prior to our departure because of all the comments I have been reading.
On arrival we were met at the Holiday Village by one mainline rep, 2 soccer school coaches and a swim kid instructor which I thought was a nice touch.
The receptionist got us checked into our room and explained everything in detail.
We were put onto the first sitting which meant we could go anytime between 18.30 & 19.30, this for my family was fine. I wouldn't have been too upset if we had been put on the later one as we tend to eat when ever the kids are hungry on holiday. We still would have been able to attend Kids Village time either way.
The food for my family was fine, a little repetative but it was ok. There is room for improvement and from what the reps were saying it is definatley getting better.
The Kids Clubs are all fantastic!! My children loved all the staff. There's something available all day every day.
My two both took part in soccer school & swim kids which they said was the best part of their holiday. They had a presentation evening on the wednesday where the received a picture and certificate.
The evening entertainment was very good!! Moother Goose was very funny.
Overall our holiday was very good. The weather shone evryday and I felt very relaxed by the end which for me is the main thing.
Well done to all the staff you really are a credit to your company. I'm not sure if I could have ever have put up with the amount of abuse and complaining as you guys do!!

| said: We just got back yesterday from HV Algarve. We went self catering as we went to the Alto Da Colina last year and really enjoyed the food and thought that it would be much the same this year. We were wrong. On our first day the hotel gave us a sheet offering us 10% off upgrading to all inclusive directly with them ... you had to do it on your arrival day before you had even experienced the food and they only did it for a minimum of 6 days - oh yes, and the only sitting available was 8pm - 9pm. No good for us as our kids wanted to go to kids village time at 19.45 – 21.00. We smiled politely and said no thanks!
We checked out the snack bar (5 euros for a cheeseburger - ie: burger bun, burger and slice of cheese, and 3 euros for about 14 chips!), and then the bar (1.50 / 2 euros for watered down orange squash or coke), and then got in the car and went to the supermarket!! We had lunch in our apartment each day, buying fresh rolls from the on site shop, and luckily I had taken a little cool bag which we put soft drinks, water and beers in each day to have by the pool. We also took our own drinks into the evening venue, putting them first into one of the plastic cups that all the drinks are served in.
I have to say though, I wouldn’t have been so outraged at the price if we had been all inclusive because you could just go up and get as many as you wanted (although only 2 drinks per band each time). We ate breakfast in the restaurant each day which was good (26 euros for a family of four), but only ate once in the Italian (on our first day) where we were shocked at the quality, and we weren’t the only ones – apparently the Portuguese was dubious as well. After this we ate out in various restaurants and had some lovely meals.
First Choice are well aware of the problems – every day there were people filling in complaint forms – and the hotel are apparently trying very hard to improve – taking on more staff to try and reduce the huge queues at the bars etc.
We were in block 1 which was lovely – spacious and clean rooms. The kids clubs and reps were great, as were the soccer school and high ropes course. Definately great for my kids age 6 and 4. Pools are fantastic and never seemed too busy despite the numerous inflatables they allow – including large dinghys! The splash park was not open when we were there despite many promises – but it should be open now, and it looked great.
Restaurants we liked: ‘Martins’ (walk out of the hotel to the main road and turn right),’ O’Assador’ (out of hotel and turn left). In Albufeira itself the ‘Chinese Royal’ (big red restaurant on the first roundabout as you get into town), and in the Old Town – ‘Bravo’ on the main square and the restaurants opposite the beach.
We visited “Aquashow” water park and loved it – once again great for our kids.
All in all, it was a good holiday – would we return? Perhaps in a few seasons time when the “teething problems” have been sorted. The actual hotel is lovely, and we were very lucky with the weather. Hopefully when they sort out the food and the sittings for dinner the reviews will be fantastic.

| said: Went here beginning of June the first impression of the plsce it was very nice, it was clean, apartments big and spacious facilities in apartment where good.
Staff where nice but thought there was not enough communication between certain departments within the hotel.
The food what can i say it was awful in the first week of the holiday unless you like cold burgers, chips and fishfingers you would be ok, we did complain about this to the first choice reps who said it was in hand and a english chef was coming over to sort it out, in all fairness to the chef the food was a lot better in the second week but did not think it was brilliant, there was more variety, but thought it could have been better.
The Italian restaurant and Portugese restaurant was ok but that wasnt brilliant but compared to the food in the buffet restaurant it was a lot better than that, getting into them as a party of Four was a joke they allocated different times to us saying they didnt have the room for us as a party of four when we went down to them one night they where empty and there was tables of 8 set. We went to the first choice reps about this and they did sort out the porblem for us in the second week of the holiday.
The location was not good at all, it was a 25 minute walk either way to get to any shops or restaurant but the taxis where good and cheap to get to and from the hotel.

| said: I've just retured from a weeks holiday in the Holiday Village Algarve. There have been a few changes since we were there last year - block 2 has been built which is spotless, rooms are huge and very tastefully decorated. Staff are 100% friendly & helpful.
We chose Self Catering, as we like to sample different restaurants and don't like to eat in same place all the time. 90% of holidaymakers seem to go All-Inclusive here so I have to say we felt like real "outsiders". Besides
major queues at the bar (10 mins approx)to get there and
be told what we were looking for was sold out (bottle of water, orange juice (daughter doesn't like fizzy drinks)bottle Krona / Bud etc. Then on our 3rd day we got a note under the door to say bars/restaurants will no longer accept cash, we had to purchase a card at reception and put a minimum credit on it of Eur 100. We did this but when we tried to order some lunch at the poolside bar, the
lady serving us told us the card number was incorrect - she couldn't accept it! Again my husband was pushed aside
while she served all inclusive guests. We had to wait about 15 mins for girl on reception to ring though and say card was ok - this we found extremely annoying as both ourselves and children (ages 8 & 4) were hungry. We booked
dinner one evening in the restaurant but after hearing reviews and complaints from other holidaymakes we cancelled. Everyone complained the food was greasy and very basic - one guy told me his local chipper at home served better food - glad we didn't go all-inclusive even
though at times we were made to feel like lepers! Be careful re this credit card - on checking out receptionist tried to tell me I owed Eur 7.20 as I had overspent on the card, this I knew was incorrect and only after I argued my point and asked her to produce receipts she backed down and told me she owed me Eur 42.50 - so be warned!!! On the plus side, the First Chouce Reps are absolutely Fantastic! Special thanks to Ian & Dave the football coaches and Kieley the swim coach - there were brilliant, also to the kids club reps - all fantastic. The reps all work really hard, they are there from early morning to 12pm most nights so well done. Evening entertainment most nights was good, but our only problem was Bingo every night - no thanks!! All in All the village is very clean, plenty to do but a big no no for the food. We went to the Strip evenight night to eat where you will find gorgeous restaurants at very reasonable prices - Reno's has to be our favourite - Food absolutely gorgeous, great childrens menus and very family friendly!

I need to add a report as i read all the holiday truths about this village before i went and to be honest was dreading the moment we landed!
However even though we did get the letters and the phone call with regard to the new splash park NOT BEENING OPEN and building work we LOVED EVERY MINUTE!
FIRST CHOICE REPS BRILL
KIDS CLUB BRILL - USED IT EVERYDAY!
APARTMENTS LOVELY AND SPACIOUS
POOLS A LITTE COOL BUT MY 2 BOYS WENT IN ALL DAY!
EVENING ENTERTAINMENT COOL!
THINGS GOIN ON ALL DAY FOR KIDS AND ADULTS!
BAD TIMES!
The hotel does have major issues with the all inclusive food!
My advise is to go self catering a defo forget the all inclusive!
Food is the same for dinner and tea - and because you are in a quiet location which is great for the kids you have no where to escape as you are tied down to go for breakfast dinner tea.
the other two restaurants are apparently even worse (we did not go)
we went into the old town for tea a few times and loved it! - such a shame really to be all inclusive as you really dont get to see the beautiful algarve history and sample different bars and restaurants. And with such bad food i would most certainly have done self catering.
My boys are 3 and 14months and i know you think it's always easy to be on hand for breakfast dinner and tea but they loved the experience of the visit to the old town and we really easy to get there taxi only 5 euros! - GET OFF AT TAXI RANK 2.
We have complained and will pursue a refund as the money we paid did noy justify the food!
But it most certainly jusified a fab hotel and lovely time had by all. First choice staff outstanding!
The existing splash park is great and the new bit (with slides and new interactive part) is open this sat! Yippee xxx
DONT CANCEL - ENJOY YOU HOLS AND GO SELF CATERING!

| said: On reading reviews we travelled with no high expectations but was pleasently surprised.
The hotel was clean comfortable and above all offered more than we expected.
The food was very good.... this apparantly was down to a uk chef being flown in the previous few days to our arrival to assist in the buffet restaraunt.... obviously this is a new concept with the hotel being made into a family holiday village and to try and meet the standards of other holiday villages.
We only ate in the portugese it was ok but the childrens choice was not great according to other families.
Our child is only 6months so did not need the food.
You are allocated either early or late sittings 6.30 - 7.30 or 8-9, slightly different to other all inclusives but i could imagiane this was due to the buffet restaraunt have waitered service for drinks which I feel added a slightly more classier alternative to your typical help yourself as in most circumstances and it is not a very big restaraunt.
we spoke to the rep as on early sitting did not suit us, this request was met yet other guests not so lucky..... this I presume was because they went straight to reception rather than asking the rep to deal with their request.... the rep is there to do a job and as they have a rapport with the staff then I highly suggest any issues or requests go through them.....
Regarding the reps they were briliant. Efficient and helpful. on duty from about 8am until 10pm but saw them later than this.
The entertainment team on an evening was very good really got the adults and children involved.
Kids disco then bingo quizzes and some form of cabaret or comedy act.
On one night there was a vantriloquist from the UK... he was hilarious.
Through the day the first choice activities team were fab..... water polo, quizzes, gladiators, trigolf and more, it was very organised.
Having a 6month old it did not matter but the first choice splash park was not finished. No digging or major noise but families with older children may be a little dissapointed, but with 6 other pools on site and the hotels splash area it seemed not to be missed.
Looking at the slow pace of the workmen and only a handful will probably take a good few weeks or so to be finished, probably not until mid July.
The location we found was ok...
Yes a bit out but at the end of the day you book a Holiday Village possibly All inclusive WHY???
Because of the on-sight facilities and entertainment!!!
if it was totally flat then wouldnt be a big issue. With a buggy and myself being a slow walker it took approx 30mins to the strip.
Pavements not excellent but did not bother us
it is a bit up and down but if you take your time it is a pleasent walk.
But taxis are cheap enough 4euros to strip and 6euros to old town which is has a bit more of a traditional feel. yes you do need to wait a bit for taxis but this is for the whole resort not just down to the hotel and the staff done their best to get it as quick as possible.
Would we go again to this hotel???... YES
I really want to try the other holiday villages as this was new and had a few teething problems but overall exceeded our expectations.

| said: Having stayed here in 2006 on a Self Catering basis when there was only 1 block and the bar/entertainment room was also a snack bar/casual restaurant we booked to come back when the sales for 2008 were released at the beginning of May 2007. It was only £200 more to go All Inclusive so we took that option unaware that the hotel was being extended and changed into a Holiday Village.
The casual restaurant/bar/snack bar has been converted into a buffet restaurant and extended into what was the a la carte restaurant next door and unfortunately the food in this buffet restaurant isn't a patch on the fayre available in tha past.Food was very rarely labled, greasy and very "samey". It improved a bit as the holiday went on, but then dipped again at the end. We sort of worked out that the quality and choice depended a bit upon who was on duty. The snack bar at the pool now has a very limited choice as well. The Portugese a la carte restaurant was lovely the first time we went, but poor the second time and there was only one waitress working in there which, despite her best efforts, meant service was a bit slow.
Due to the on going building work the hotel windows were filthy and the there was a lot of dust and sand around the hotel in general. When we were here 2 years ago the place was spotless.
Both the hotel staff and the First Choice staff were very friendly and very helpful, and the First Choice staff in particular were also most apologetic about the fact that the place wasn't really ready yet.
The location isn't brilliant as it is a good 30 minute walk to The Strip and Taxi's, although cheap, are like gold dust. Even off peak, we waited 45 minutes for a taxi one morning as there were none available.
The entertainment was excellent both day and night with the First Choice and in2action teams working non stop to keep everyone entertained.
Another gripe is that the water in the indoor pool is heated by solar panels so the water is freezing when the sun doesn't shine which is when its most needed.
We,re not sure whether we'd return now or not as we liked it the way it was and think its been spoiled a bit. In a couple of years when its all finished properley we might think about it, but at the minute the standard has dropped too much since last time for us to consider it.

| said: I've just returned from the Holiday Village Algarve with my son aged 13 and daughter aged 11. We were there for Whitsun week and were in a Twin room (with pull-out bed) in Block 2 and were on All-Inclusive basis.
We all had an enjoyable holiday but not enough to make us return I'm afraid.
The Good - hotel facilites, day-time activities and entertainment, helpfulness of hotel staff, all the First Choice reps and entertainers and most importantly the absolutely brilliant kid's clubs, which, most people raved about and said were second-to-none to any other Tour Operator's kid's clubs they had used. In fact, once my daughter had discovered the Wavelength club (for 9-15 year-olds) towards the end of the week, I could not drag her out! Also, the beach was nice but we only briefly visited the beach due to mixed weather. Finally, we had a lovely day out at Zoomarine with a fantastic dolphin show which should not be missed!
The Not-so-Good - the food (very poor choice and quality in my opinion and plenty of people shared this view unfortunately); Twin rooms (tiny and overlooking a busy road with very noisy/ugly contruction taking place just across the road); pools too cold - although with hotter weather this would not be such an issue. Finally, the location is not great either - it all felt a bit 'squeezed in' around Block 2 in particular and, in general, the Balaia area is very built up and not particularly attractive - again, this is just my personal opinion.
Overall I felt it wasn't very good value for money, especially for us as we had to pay full adult price for one of our children (this is because my partner doesn't like flying so I have to holiday abroad as a 'single parent'). But for families with younger children who like loads of hot dogs, chips, etc, and who have booked the much more spacious accommodation, then you'll have a great time!

| said: Just returned from 2 weeks at the holiday village Algarve. Dodgy weather but an excellent hotel and would definitely return.
We stayed All Inclusive in a kids den in Block 1 which was huge. It had a kitchenette with dining table, twin beds with a TV in one area and sliding doors through to another room with a bunk bed and bean bags and another TV.
There was a huge balcony with sliding doors in each room with chairs and 2 tables.
Maids came 6 times a week and not until after 9am.
Although there is a sign saying there are 2 sittings for evening dinner, you can go at any time you like. The differnet colour wristbands are dependant on which block you were in. Green for 1 and Blue for 2.
You do receive the times and dates for your al a carte meals on arrival. One each for Italian and Portugeuse per week.
Chips were on the menu constantly. There was pasta/spaghetti as well but not much change on the variety of potatoes. Food was good though and there were always meat and fish dishes plus salad/veg.
Snacks from 2 bars from 10am until 5.30pm and 6pm. Ice creams available in Tavern bar all day / evening.
Building work seemed complete almost everywhere except on the site of the new interactive family splash pool. This doesn't seem like it will be open until around July / August in my opinion as the workmen seemed to sit around more than work. The work didn't interfere with the hotel or pools at all though.
The hotel grounds look alot different to the website pics, actually better in my opinion, with fencing around the playground, a new supermarket, bar and games room in the new block 2.
Sunbeds seemed fairly quiet, although this may have been due to the inclement weather.
Downside is the location. It is a walk to anywhere, with the nearest lively area being Albufeira.
There are loads of activities going on all day and evenings for all ages. The High Ropes are worth a go.
The kids clubs seem very well run and there are things going on until 2300. There are loads of First Choice staff there including the football coaches, swim coaches, in2action staff and entertainment staff.

| said: We stayed at the Algarve Holiday Village(Alto da Collina) in Balaia. The accommodation was spacious and clean, but that could not be said of the communal areas which were quite scruffy.
As we were staying on a self catering basis we were looking forward to the three restaurants and well stocked supermarket on site. The food was awful, under cooked and over priced. 72euros for a family buffet. The supermarket was not very super with a very limited supply of food, much of it could not be cooked on the hob and microwave supplied in the apartment.
Pool areas were clean but the pools were very cold. There were three pools, two were next to building works and the other was bombarded with loud music throughout the day.
The entertainment staff were very friendly but there appeared to be hundreds of them, sometimes there was no escape. We choose not to experience the evening entertainment.
The location of the hotel was terrible. Isolated and in the middle of a building site. From our balcony we played count the cranes.
With the poor hotel food and no nearby restaurants our holiday was dissappointing.
We would never visit this hotel again.

| said: We booked this hotel as we met up with friends who were taking their first family togethwer with their 18 month old son. The main reason for booking was the facilities for infants, but looking like a large complex we hoped there'd be some quiet areas too - and there was!
The original hotel has been expanded and a new block built on a lower level. This is brand new (still having work completed while we were there) and will be very nice when complete. However access between the two blocks is by steps or uphill by road and a steep access slope - not ideal for those with children or with mobility problems (I'll post some pictures to the gallery when I work out how!). We were allocated rooms in block 2 (the new block). Our friends booked the last available apartment so we had a standard twin room.
The room was very nice, almost boutique style with tastefull furnishings including loads of cushions and pillows and a flat screen TV. There were 2 beds pushed together to make a double and a pull-out bed underneath - but I wouldn't like to stay there with more than 2 adults as it would be very cramped. There was nowhere to sit (other than on the bed or a plastic chair on the balcony) but we tended not to spend too much time in the room anyway. The bathroom was tiled with bright green and cream tiles - a bit startling at first but you get used to it! The apartments were lovely and spacious, full kitchen, dining table, sofa, separate bedroom and two balconies.
We had a partial sea view - but this will soon disappear when the hotel being built opposite is complete. We weren't told about this in advance but as the balcony only got sun in the morning we weren't too bothered - until building work started at 8am each day. And the double glazing wasn't very good at blocking out the sound from there, or the busy road linking Albufeira and Olhos D'agua....... Anyone in a room in block 2 will have this problem.
Food was buffet style, apart from if you used your allocated reservations at the speciality restaurants (Italian and Portuguese). You are given your reservation when you check in and I don't know if it can be changed.... the food in the Italian was OK, much nicer in the Portuguese but service was very slow there. This is the first year they've offered AI so I think it will improve..... Breakfast, lunch and dinner is buffet style in the main retaurant, you are given either a green band which means you're on the 18.30-19.30 dinner sitting or a blue band for the 20.00-21.00 sitting - again you are allocated this on arrival. Overall the food (and drink) was good, plenty of choice.
The hotel is at the top of a hill, beaches are within 15min walk, but not many restaurants nearby and only hotel-based supermarkets. I wouldn't go self-catering unless you're willing to taxi into town (about 5 euros each way).
We found all the staff excellent, particularly those in Ricardo's bar in block 2 who kept us supplied with drinks! This bar was very quiet but we enjoyed spending time there.
There was lots to do, we didn't participate much but it all looked good fun - quizzes, shows etc. We had lousy weather but the entertainment team tried to keep everyone amused with games in the bar and by the pool when it wasn't raining... The indoor pool was nice too.
Overall this will be excellent when finished, there was some building work going on but things were getting fixed all through the week so things can only get better...... and they listened to and acted on suggestions (the number of high chairs in the restaurant increased from 3 at the start of the week to 20 by the end!). So I would return (at the right price) in the future.

Lovely place to stay, rooms very spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Restaurant good but a little pricey, bar meals good value but too many chips on menu! Entertainment was excellent. James, Natalie and Louise do a fab job, our kids loved them and there are lots of activities throughout the day too. Kids clubs were also excellent. Have already looked to book next year. Footie academy was also excellent, very good coaches esp Worthy who was excellent with the children.

| said: This is a nice place to stay but the 'entertainment' is APPALLING! It ruined the week really, we thought it would be quiet but the racket and talentless cretins were on all night...singing the theme tune to home and away one night (I kid you not!). This would be a good place if it wasn't for that. The rooms and balconies are huge and well kept, there are three pools and all were not too busy. There were enough sunbeds but not umbrellas, can imagine this may be a problem in summer although the reps did say they had ordered some. The reps were available all day virtually. Last warning: Don't buy a phonecard from the reps as we arrived to witness an almighty row due to the reps giving poor advice, they only work on one phone and the people we witnessed had run up a £147.00 phone bill. Really bad! Oh...and lastly......this is in the middle of nowhere really....the old town is horrible, not at all 'quaint' but tacky. If you go out of the hotel turn right then left onto the main road you come to a small supermarket which is cheaper than the hotel and if you keep walking then you come to a few restaurants.... 3 marias lovely family run business. Recommend!

| said: The apartments themselves were great, comfortable, clean and ours had a huge balcony. Did not notice too much noise from bar area, we were in 132 which was a great room with sea view.
Had requested a ground floor room when booking as we have a 2 year old but were told at reception when checking in that you have to pay extra for that, while I heard the same receptionist tell another person that there were none available and you have to request that when you book. We booked in December so I don't know how much notice is required for that!!!
The location of these apartments is pretty bad unless you want to take taxis every night, we walked most evenings left out of the apartments towards a few restaurants which took about 20 Min's with a buggy. Also for those with young children and buggies the pavements are really rough in areas with few dropped curbs.
There is also a hotel being built close by and more cranes blocking the sea view a bit. fortunately our daughter likes watching the cranes and diggers and there was no problem for us with noise.
We hired a car for one of our weeks which we would recommend as we needed to get away from the First Choice "experience". Our daughter was too young to enjoy the kids clubs, the on site creche only runs 90 min sessions during the day and you have to stay on site so we could'nt see the point of using it.
Overall good apartments but real shame about the location and too much Tour Operator involvement for our taste.

| said: Well, just returned from 2 weeks at the Alto De Colina and it was great! There are a few things that i would point out as negatives but on the whole, the hotel was clean, modern, the rooms were spacious and the TV had Engligh channels so no need to miss Coronation Street!!!
We stayed in room 330 which was facing the sea but above the bar so the noise of the entertainment was quite loud but not enough for us to complain. If you like an early night, request a room away from the bar! The rooms are self catering, they have an electric hob, microwave, toaster and kettle but no oven even though they sell oven cook only food in the supermarket!!! Doh!
The supermarket isn't bad. We found another one out of the hotel, down the road turn left which had a wider variety but there wasn't much difference in the price.
One thing that made us spend alot of money was the games room! Our Son loved it but each game is one Euro and doesn't last very long so 'Mummy, can i have a Euro please' became a popular phrase! BEWARE!!!
The reps worked hard. Dave and Sophie answered all my questions with no problem and were always smiley. They helped me organise a horse riding trip which was not on their agenda. (Which, by the way was great! Ask at receoption - 30 Euros for an hours hack!)
The Entertainers were absolutely potty. They were very friendly, full of energy but i'm afraid to say that only Natalie could sing!!! Don't expect a brilliant performance but they give it their all and seem to genuinely enjoy it!
The kids reps were also great. Our son loved going to the kids clubs and he never had anything bad to say about it.
Only one thing disappointed me was the MacDonnalds party cost us 10 Euros - it's £2.99 in England!!!
We were called 2 days before our holiday by First Choice to tell us that they are building a new hotel right next door and do we want to cancel. Luckily, we didn't and i would like to reassure anyone going in the near future that the noise is minimal, there is no muck or dust and if you use the pool at the back of the hotel, you can't see the crane!!! Don't fret! It's nothing.
So, finally, we visited the old town a few times which cost about 5 Euros in a taxi which i would recommend as the food there is gorgous and if you go late on an evening, there are street entertainers galore! It's a great atmosphere!
We would definately visit again and when the new hotel is finished for next year, they're offering All Inclusive! Yippee!!! Thumbs up!

There was a problem with towels on sun beds, but the reps tried to sort this out.the apartment was enormous and well equipped to a high standard. Our large balcony overlooked the pool and the sea in the distance. the closest beach was only a 10 minute walk away, a lovely beach used by the locals as well(always a good sign).
It was a 25 minute walk to 'The Strip'(full of bars and restaurants).we didnt eat there once.We found an excellent restaurant close to the hotel.'The three Marias'was only a 10 minute walk in opposite direction to Albefeira. We ate there 6 or 7 times! and we saw others doing the same.
We had a super holiday and would recommend the hotel to families if you dont mind being a bit further away from the nightlife!

Pool clean but very very cold, no rush for sunbeds also another pool but did not use this one
Bar area not very big, waiters friendly but not very quick when you went to the bar to order drinks, We stayed in a couple of times to eat which we found fine.
Entertainment not that good but that’s because there were only 3 reps who tried very hard and when the guest won't join in this made their job even harder (hi to Nat, Cat, Ant)
Location of this complex is a bit out of the way, but did not spoil our holiday we got taxis to the strip at night about 3-4 euros there and 3-4 euros back, to far to walk at night but not a bad walk in the day when you are wearing flat shoes and shorts.
Supermarkets there is one on the complex and if you go down to the main road turn left there is on a bit further up that has more choice and sells fresh cooked
All in all had a great holiday and could not fault this complex would go back again but would request same rooms on ground floor

The staffs were always helpful but there needs to be more bar staff on. On most nights there would be 3 on the bar but they had to wait tables for food as well as serve drinks, and when there are over 100 people in the place you could tell they were under pressure, but they were always pleasant.
The entertainment was very poor. The reps got 100%for effort but imagine trying to re-create "grease" with 3 people none of which were very good singers!
Location is quite out of the way but taxis to the strip or the old town were only 3 to 4 euro.

| said: Apartments in this complex are very spacious and extremely well equipped – with large kitchen area with modern cooker and microwave, toaster and kettle etc. The maids do come every day (except Sundays) and change towels, beds, and empty bins etc. They are not that thorough with other aspects of cleaning however but it was ok.
The Hotel staff here are extremely friendly and helpful – especially on reception where there is always someone available, all of which speak excellent English. We had a problem getting in and out of our room with our key card for much of the holiday which was a nuisance, however the reception staff always sorted it quickly. We realised later in the holiday that it wasn’t just us that has this problem as a few people we spoke to mentioned they had problems using the key cards to get into their rooms so they appear to have a bit of a problem with them!!
There is some building works still going on doing various finishing touches to the complex but nothing that interferes with your holiday. Although there are some bits that could be finished and maintained a little better around the pool areas - there are 2 good pool areas. There is the main pool and children’s pool which is a large area, and then a second pool and baby pool round the front of the apartments, which is smaller and quieter - and with 2 children aged 1 and 4 this was where we spent most of our time as it has a kids splash park and play area there too and is great for the kids.
There is kids clubs for all ages, swimming lessons and football which all seem popular. The on site entertainment team work hard and do a good job – they keep the kids occupied and provide some form of entertainment each day and night. We were not expecting professional evening shows or anything and I know most people always slate the in house entertainment but they do a pretty good job and everyone appears to enjoy themselves.
The only thing I will say about the entertainment is that unless you are in one of the back rooms (I.e without a sea view) you get the entertainment whether you like it or not as it is projected outside the bar by a loud speaker and therefore is heard by most apartments!!! We were on the top floor so it was not as bad as it could have been, but on the lower floors you could not escape it. Therefore if you want to put your kids to bed at a reasonable hour then it can be noisy up until about 11:30 at night. Luckily our kids slept through it but some may not! So ask for a back room if you are worried about noise.

Food was always only just cooked, warm and the meat never looked properly cooked.
Don't try and walk in the heat to the strip with kids as its a long trek seemed uphill all time going and coming back! No bars or restaurants nearby to getaway from the hotel food, so was taxis all time to the strip where you got hassled if you wanted drugs of Asian blokes and hassled to go in bars.
Supermarket at hotel is VERY expensive bout £1.70 for tin of beans and sausages! but no where close to go instead. The blonde young woman in the supermarket is the most miserable woman I've ever met, no thank you's or anything not even a smile didn't even say a word. Alot of people said the same thing about her. Rest of staff were very friendly at the hotel in every way.
Nearest beach was very small surrounded by rocks and the restaurant on it didn't sell much no English breakfast and trying to get back from beach was impossible by taxi there was none there so we used outside fone there that didn't work either so was uphill walk back.
Only had 1 good meal in Portugal that was Chinese delivered to hotel room.
Pools were big and very good, cold but only like most hotels where ever you go. If u are not wanting to leave your sun lounger all holiday this hotel is great, big kitchen with everything you need in it and big rooms.
Prefer Cyprus or Spanish islands to Portugal

| said: Apartments were one of the most spacious that we have stayed in. Our duaghter who is a kitchen consultant was really impressed with the kitchen layout and equipment. We were on the 3rd floor with a large balcony which had a good sea view, plus a view of the pool and resturant area. Apartment very clean, maids came in everyday except Sunday and were very pleasant and friendly, towels changed every day.
Location not ideal if you do not like walking, but beaches nearby are great, just walk across the main road and go through the Afagar (sister complex) and you can get to the beach via steps (would not advise if you have a pushchair etc. Alternatively when you get to the main road turn left and around 15 minutes walk more nice beaches, plus a large supermarket which was quite cheap. Taxis cost betwen 3:80 and 4:50 Euros depending on the time not including tip (cost more late at night).
Noticed that the poolwater is checked everyday early in morning and the maids clean the sunloungers also early in morning, always sunloungers available but main season not started so may be crowded then.
Hotel staff in reception vary depending on who it is, one very helpful the other no so.
Bar and resturant staff very friendly but overworked.
Reps were excellent especially Richard who could not do enough for you, they were visable all day long, running different activities. Watched the Greese show on the first tryout, hilarious.
Will be returning to this complex again in September as although it is quite a trek if you want to visit the Strip, there is enough around if you want a good relaxing beach holiday without discos blasting your ears every night.

| said: The Alto da Colina is a lovely hotel with excellent facilities in both the rooms and the public areas.
The rooms were quite big with large modern kitchen and modern furniture and big balconies. We had a great view of both the main pools and the sea.
Our little girl particularly liked the "Water Toys" as she called them and the playground near the kids club.
We ate in the snack bar 4 nights and also ate from the buffet at one of the themed nights. The food in the hotel was very nice, good value, but i felt that the bars and restaurants were let down by the fact that there were not enough staff. The staff that did work there were great, but were rushed off their feet at times which meant it took quite some time to get served/attract their attention to take your order.
We felt the enterainment was okay, pretty standard for kids/family orientated hotel. Our little girl loved the mini disco, and to be fair i thought the reps did a very good job.
The location was okay, but only because of how cheap taxis are. You could walk to Albufeira in about 25 minutes, but in 30 Degree heat with a small child it wasn't really an option. A taxi costs less than 5 Euros and to come home it is better to ask the staff at a restaurant or bar to phone you one as they are hard to find and flag down.
The beach at Santa Eulalia was lovely and there was a lovely restaurant there as well called cafe atlantic, but again it was quite a walk so we got a taxi back.
We would go here again as the hotel itself is lovely, if a little cut off.

We ate in the restaurant most nights and had great meals and and the prices were well worth the money. Car hire I think is a must as most things are not close to the hotel. Hotel staff were FANTASTIC very friendly and very helpful.
We were lucky enough to be there just as they were starting the entertainment and all i can can say is Fantastic once again.
Cant wait to go back again.

| said: The complex itself is very clean, however the maids didn't do as good a job of our rooms. Towels and bedding not the problem just general things like sweeping, mopping etc.. I'm only comparing it to previous holidays we've had.
Only ate in the bar once and it was a pizza, tasty but a bit expensive for what you got. Mind you it's like that in any complex.
The bar/restaurant seemed to be understaffed the few times we visited it, maybe because it was low season but the barman was running around like a headless chicken all the time.
Reception staff I found to be quite ignorant. You could be stood there for a good few minutes before they even acknowledged you.
The entertainment was only on for the last few days of our holiday as it was the start of the summer season for them.
As I've found in most family complexes it the usual substandard reps doing karaoke, bingo, quizzes etc... Not that I'm dissing it, it's not idea of entertainment.
It certainly would not put me off visiting the complex again in the near future. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't on the doorstep of the restaurant/bars and the pools are lovely.

Entertainment in the hotel was limited as it was april and low season however my children all enjoyed staying around the hotel as they made lots of friends. We had a fabulous holiday and would go back.

| said: We have been 3 times to the Alto Da Colina. No problems what so ever. It is the one and only holiday resort we have ever visited more than once! It suits us and our child of 3yrs -
Kids clubs are fantastic and very memorable for my daughter who started in the tweety creche and when we go again in June she will be in the bugs bunny club. I have a few hints and tips that I have picked up along the way, so mail with any specifics. Over all, you won't find a cleaner, newer hotel.
Entertainment will not suit everyone.. definitely family med style, not cruise ship standard... but not all of us go for a parrot show! There are many places to get out and see at night... and I'm talking early evening as we have a child!

| said: The hotel is generally good. We took a 2 year old and a 5 month old. Our 2 year old loved the creche but unfortunately they only take them from 1 year old so our youngest missed out.
The pools are fun but not enough barriers to prevent little ones running off. The lower pool(at the front of the hotel with the water features) is very near the running track with its steep steps and our 2 year old ran in that direction every time. Also, the pools are very cold so little ones tend to moan - try the indoor pool occasionally to let the get rid of some steam as this is a lot warmer with a nice jaccuzzi in the corner.
The rooms are very clean. The only prblem we had here is that the door could be unlocked from the inside by merely pulling the handle hence our 2 year old found it very easy to escape.
Location was not a problem if you like queing for taxis. As we went off peak we never had more than 2 or 3 people waiting in fornt of us (you pay reception 1 Euro to book one for you and they give you the taxi's registered number). I'd have hated this if we went peak - apparently it was a nightmare early August. You could try walking but it was a very hilly mile and a half or so to 'the strip' which is hard with 2 pushchairs.
Our 2 year old loved the kids evening discos and party games. He made many friends to play with.
All in all a good holiday and worth the money spent but I would not go back.

| said: Being a new hotel the facilities and standards of the accommodation were excellent. The apartments were first class, very spacious, huge balconies and well equipped. Having a 6month old baby in our family we welcomed having a microwave and proper kettle in which to prepare milk bottles/baby food! The apartments themselves were one of the best we have stayed in.
The 2 swimming pools never seemed over busy and were spotlessly clean, the splash area by the 2nd pool kept the children very entertained.
The restaurant food was good value and tasty but as there was not much variation on the menu after a few days it became monotonous.
A well stocked supermarket on site was handy as there were virtually no shops in the surrounding area.Selling British as well as local produce.
The hotel staff and tour operator staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them.
I would definitely visit the hotel again either when our children are older or when there are more shops/restaurants etc within the surrounding area as the taxi trip to the strip became a hassle!

Rooms was nice and big, everything for a self catering holiday was in your room. Nice size balcony to sit and relax.
Would recommend it to friends.
Location a bit too far to walk to the strip so taxis all the time.
Food from the hotel restaurant was excellent and a very good choice.
We stayed for two weeks and only one fault and that was the location.

The staff at the hotel were very frienly especialy the waiters in the bars and resturant, even the entertainment staff were friendly most of who you could have a laugh with.
The hotel was a bit out of the way as you had to go by taxi if you wanted to go some where. The hotel was always clean because every morning you would find a cleaner cleaning the floors, tables, apartments and even cleaners checking the quality of the swimming pool water.
I would stay at the hotel Alto Da Colina again as I felt welcomed staying there as if was a friendly welcoming place.

| said: Beautiful complex. Extremely spacious apartments, tastefully decorated and large balcony.
We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and sea in the distance.
Large, clean pool and smaller childrens pool, 2 football pitch (allweather and atro turf, tennis courts at the back of the complex. Entertainment during the day was very good for the children, although not too good in the evenings, but the reps tried their best. We ate out each evening.
The 'strip' is about a 20 minute walk, full of restaurants and bars, but we preferred the old town of Albuferia, which takes about 10 minutes in a taxi. Order these at reception and they will give you a number, bit like the deli at ASDA! When we were there, we found you had to order around 7.30 - 8.00 pm or you could be waiting a while.
Beautiful old town, with some lovely bars, restaurants and shops and street stalls plus a beautiful large beach with pedaloes for hire. Avoid at weekends if at all possible, getting a taxi back is a nightmare if you leave after 10.30 pm. You'll be queueing with around 50 other people! Although there is a roadtrain which takes you to the strip and you can then walk the rest of the way back to the apartments, stopping for a drink on the way if you wish!
If you leave the apartments and turn left when you reach the main road (opposite way to the strip) and walk for about 10 minutes, theres a few restaurants which are very reasonably priced and serve excellent food. We visited 'Tiffanys' several times and also the 'Three Marias'.
We preferred Tiffanys, owned by a lovely lady. Plus a pool table so the children don't get bored whilst waiting for their food.
The good thing about these resaurants is that not many people seem to know about them as they are not on the main route, so you never have to wait long for a table.
We also got a bus to Villamoura for the day, not overly impressed, a marina but thats about all, much prefer Albuferia, lots more character.
All in all, a lovely holiday, weather excellent, although a little breezy at night, as you're on the Atlantic Coast. By far the best apartments we have stayed in, and we've stayed in some good ones!
Only downside perhaps, is the location as if you don't want to be sat in a taxi each evening, its a fair walk to the strip. Wouldn't put us off returning though.

| said: We really liked the hotel.
It was lovely and modern and clean. The Swimming Pools on both sides of the hotel were excellent and the bar and restaurant areas were lovely. There was a little supermarket within the hotel which had a good range of goods. Lovely fresh bread rolls every day.
The staff were excellent. We mislaid our camera one night having left it in the taxi that had brought us back from the old town, my husband went to the reception and they helped us to get it back within an hour.
The only let down is the distance of the hotel from the resort itself. Taxis are easy to find and not to expensive but it does become a bit of a drag having to get a taxi all the time.

The swimming pool area is very clean and well kept the pool is a little bit on the cold side but quite bearable when it is so hot.
Very nice accomodation staff very helpful only minus point is the location. The golf resort next door has a nice restaurant and Tiffany's a 15min walk up the road were very good. The food at the accomodation is a bit limited.
Great holiday the best accomodation we have stayed at over the years. our children had a great time 10yrs and 7yrs very well laid out for families and we all loved the indoor pool facilities. The splash park area is really great for children.
