| said: We have been back nearly a week now and are still missing such a fantastic, relaxing holiday. With having read weeks beforehand other numerous reviews, we were especially very dubious about the quality of the food in the hotel...but to our surprise it was more than acceptable and not as some of the reviews had suggested.
Breakfast had 3 different types of egg - fried, scrambled and boiled with ham fried for the bacon and frankfurters as the sausage.
What was good for the kids (and us adults alike!) was the choice of having freshly cooked pancakes topped with jams, honey & even chocolate!
We only had lunch a couple of times in the week due to the amount of food we had at breakfast, but you usually had the choice of fried chicken fillet with fries.
Dinner included soups and salads to start with a choice of usually 3 seperate dishes including pork, veal, chicken etc complete with the normal vegetables...they even had Brussel Sprouts which were cooked to a treat!
As far as the hotel is concerned, it keeps up to its 4 star accreditation with it being very clean, having really friendly staff and being presentable at all times.
We booked 2 Select rooms on the 5th floor which were very spacious and included the normal air conditioning (which was very handy when it was 40 degrees outside!)
We spent all our days around the pool, with no safety issues to report on. All of our children really enjoyed the pool and there was never a problem in obtaining poolside beds.
The only issues that we had was that the Kids club was only up to the age of 8 (although our 9 & 10 year old were made welcome by the kind reps)
Unfortunatley there is no real evening entertainment except for a rock & roll show and a kids parrot show.
If you choose to make your way down to the beach and you have young children with you with a buggy, I suggest that you walk down the street which finally gets you to the beach and NOT the shortcut way which is down some very steep steps and you have to really watch what you are doing.
Overall we were more than pleased with our visit to Bulgaria, especially with the more than reasonable price we paid for this holiday.
We would consider going back to this hotel again, although First Choice have omitted this Hotel from next years brochure.
In conclusion we would really recommend this hotel to families and couples alike and hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.

| said: Well After reading so much about this hotel before we went we were a little concerned. We had been to Bulgaria 5 times before the last time in 05 and always found the Hotels clean and friendly with the food OK but not brillent. Im glad to say that the Kristal beat all this and has to be our favourite Hotel that we have been to in Bulgaria. The much dreaded food that we had heard so many negative feedback about was just the normal standard of contintel and everything was fresh ( I have to add that we only had breakfast ).

| said: SUPERB, what a difference from 7 years ago at Sunny Beach, great hotel, great staff, great room, poor weather. No problems with the hotel at all, very impressed with everything concerning the hotel, spotlessly clean.
Great room FREE air con if needed, FREE TV, built in bar / fridge (ask at reception for this to be unlocked prices are printed for you if you have anything and items replaced the next day) FREE shower cap, shampoo, sewing kit, soap etc.
Great lifts and fantastic choice for breakfast catering for every nationality (just take your brown sauce) When booking in they will issue you with a swipe card to buy anything and everything at the hotel to which you have to pay the total bill at the end of your break.
I was very concerned at first about this but when used they give you a signed print out receipt for you to check (just keep hold of them if there is any false figures, but we never had a problem).
The only very minor problem was there were only 6 hangers to hang your clothes but plenty of room to flat pack everything, and no brown sauce.
We only booked B&B after reading the previous reports on the hotel, but going by the breakfasts alone I would not have had any problems going half board.
The pools looked clean but were really cold but the weather was not in our favour so never really used.

The bathroom was ok but shower used to soak the floor and the carpet outside.
Breakfast was ok plenty of choice pancakes etc but the evening meals were awful. Choice was ok but everything dried up or the same again and again. Ate out all of the second week there. Very cheap and fantastic food and service.
Pool was great and clean staff very helpful and polite.
Short distance from the town and water park which was a good day out, went on other excursions, Bulgarian Fiesta was brilliant with plenty to eat and drink. All in the price of about £20 adults £10 children and entertainment was fab worth every penny.
We are returning to Bulgaria this year and staying in the hotel opposite the Perla. Really nice place lots to do and see great shopping very cheap.

The hotel is very clean, and the rooms are excellent.
In the room is, a hair dryer, tv, dvd player, kettle.
You can hire beach towels for a refundable deposit.
The hotel is close to all ameneties and far enough away for a bit of piece and quiet.
The only entertainment was for the under 8s, my two children are 12 and 15, there was nothing for them and so they found the hotel very boring.

| said: The hotel is in an excellent location - close enough to the centre of things in the resort but far enough away that you can shut the noise away - be warned though that if you struggle to walk up steep steps or a fairly steep hill then it would not be for you.
Although the entertainment was just the one rep it suited us a lot more as it was not 'in your face' but I did feel sorry for Hannah as she had to work so hard but she did a fantastic job.
The kids club was fantastic and Lindsey, Ruth and Suzi kept the kids entertained all the time (even when club was not 'open' as they were helping out Hannah).
We were in a select room and it was huge! One word of warning though, if you are on the ground floor and in the corner room you will have things stolen from the balcony as you are very close to a pathway.
The pool bar staff are fantastic as are the vast majority of the staff it is a shame that the reception staff are not as friendly.
The food began ok but it did go downhill and very boring so we ate out for the last 4 nights. I would agree with a lot of reports and suggest that you go to Mama Mias Steakhouse.
I would visit this hotel again as we know that food in Bulgaria hotels is not fantastic and so we were prepared - all in all as this holiday costs so much cheaper than the equivalent in other countries eating out a few times is a small price to pay.

| said: Have just returned from a very good holiday at the Kristal Hotel. The hotel was very clean, the maid even changed the towels and made shapes out of them on the day we left! My daughter loved trying to guess what shape the towels would be each day, bows, crocodile, swan etc.
The food got boring quite quickly so we ate out quite a bit but as the local restaurants were good quality - and cheap! - it wasn't a problem. I can recommend Sinbad's as they had entertainment on every night too.
The staff were quite friendly and the two lads who waited around the pool were excellent; they worked sooo hard each day.
The Kids Club reps were brilliant and my daughter loved going each day - well done Suzie, Laura & Lynsey. For some reason the hotel management didn't like the entertainment side of things and so we lost two of the three entertainment reps in a week! Having said this, Hannah worked extremely hard and the girls from the Kids Club helped out and we both enjoyed the events put on by them.
We went on a couple of excursions which were great and everyone else we spoke to enjoyed the trips they went on too. If you go on the jeep safari be warned, you will get wet!
The hotel has a beauty parlor and a wellness centre - make sure you try out the massage, it is wonderful (and very cheap!)

The food I understand isn't to everybody's taste but people should not leave England if they expect English food. My family all enjoyed it!
The hotel is situated just off party street where there is lots of places to eat and drink and party all night!
The entertainment in the hotel was fantastic all four first choice entertainers were amazing Phil, Nathan, Charlie and Hannah, they put on shows twice a week Grease, Cinderella a rock and roll show and an 80's show they were all brilliant. Some of the shows also featured the kids reps who were fantastic.
My kids loved Suzie and Linzi they were the fave's.
We didn't go out on any excursions whilst there as couldn't tear the kids away from the entertainers and kids reps! But having spoken to the very informative rep Selina I'm sure we would have enjoyed them!
Everything about the hotel was brilliant would recommend it to anyone and well done to all the first choice staff for making my kids holidays. Thankyou

Entertainers Phil and nathan are good with the kids although there should have been more going off.
Germans complained about music so had to be turned off at 1. A family hotel which really catered for the smaller children we had 5 teenagers if it wasn't for them making friends they would have been fed up.
Food got repetitive but some nice places in town to try the Chinese and Indian were nice.
We would not go back to this resort as it is not geared up enough for teenagers and if you have a young family you need to be back at the hotel for 10 ish as groups of 18-21's go on pub crawls.
Too many other nationalities here although most are decent met a lovley Norweign couple there.

Got a massage at the hotel on the last day - regret not getting one before, felt like a new person after and it was so cheap.
Hotel is great, food decent and very clean. tipped the maid everyday and when we came back into room she had designed pillows, towels and other things about the room into fun shapes eg a croc and a swan - which was funny.
We travelled from Belfast, the resort was mostly English and German.

| said: We stayed at Hotel Kristal in May 2006, we had a pleasant stay. The hotel in general is very good, but there were a few things they could have done better.
First of all the food was horrible, I was never sure what it was about it but it tasted like they just picked up a roadkill and put it in a microwave for 2 minutes and voila.
The cleaning of our room varied a lot from day to day but was in general satisfying, fresh towels everyday is a plus, a big plus, considering that you shower two times a day when you are in such heat.
There was one big problem about the room, the fire alarm tended to go on at night. That is not very pleasing when your in an unknown country, when we went to the lobby to ask about it we were told that this happened occasionally and there was nothing to do about it.
The location of the hotel was great, less than a five minutes walk from the party street and markets but still far enough so you could sleep, as long as the fire alarm kept its mouth shut.
The hotel staff was satisfying but nothing more than that, they were trying. We were told upon our booking that all the staff spoke English, their English knowledge was very limited. But not their fault.
The hotel garden was very nice, lifeguards by the pool and a good bar. The pool was nice and you could get benches for free.
The hotel is equipped with a miniature spa which was very nice, there is also a doctor available if anything serious happens.
In general this is a nice hotel but does not rise up to the four stars they have been granted.

| said: For first impressions, the hotel hit all the right notes. From when the coach pulled up outside staff were waiting to take the luggage into the reception for you. Then after chacking in staff were available to take the luggage to your room(s).
We booked a seperate room for two of the kids (they are getting a bit old now!!!) and we were pleased to find that they had the room next door (so we could keep an eye on them). The rooms were very spacious even with the bunk beds in our room. Our balcony overlooked the neighbouring hotels pool, so we could join in with their morning keep fit club. The rooms were very, very clean with the cleaners even making animals from the towels. It's the first hotel we have stayed in where the cleaners vacuum the balcony!. In fact the only gripe I could find about the room was that the electric would only work with the key in the room, so you can't go off for the day and recharge the video camera - do it during the night instead.
The reception area and bar was very spacious, plenty of seating both inside and outside overlooking the pool. Again very, very clean.
Seating was also available outside the dining room on the lower floor, we had our meals outside on a couple of occassions. We did find that at certain times of the day the dining room was busy, particularly as we needed a table for six. But all we did was go and relax outside for 20 minutes and space would be available. Once we became used to how they prepare and cook the food it wasn't all that bad, except for a dodgy veil which looked very under-cooked. All the meals were buffet style with something for everyone, although the choice was slightly limited on some days.
The swimming pool was a good size, with plenty of sun beds around the pool. Providing you got there early enough. It was very private surrounded by trees, which kept the often breezy conditions at bay. Life Guards were on duty all day and the pool area was kept very clean. Staff were also on hand for drinks, if required.
The hotel is located on a hill, which we had been told about beforehand. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to the beach. Situated within a couple of minutes of the hotel are plenty of places to eat and shops.
The level of English spoken by all of the staff was exceptional & during our week at the hotel we never came un-stuck. The First Choice information pack also included some basic phrases.
The entertainment was on the go all day long, with a dedicated kids club. Although we couldn't persuade the kids to join it. While the evening entertainment was brilliant. Bingo and quiz's were played every other night. Then on Sunday evening the First Choice staff did their version of Cinderella, while on Tuesday night they did a rock show where they sang all your favorite 80's songs. Taking you back to your school days. Absolutely no pressure, join in or sit back and enjoy the atmosphere. Plenty of hotel staff on hand for those drinks as well, you didn't have to leave your seat.

| said: Having not been to Bulgaria, we were not sure what to expect at all! We were just in need of some sun without and Bulgaria had been recommended.
Flight was perfect, transfer hassle free and we arrived at the Kristal Hotel late evening.
The Kristal Hotel is stunning and immaculately clean! Rooms spacious & fresh. We had a room on 1st floor overlooking the neighbouring hotel's swimming pool. The interior of the building is designed beautifully but we were aware of guests who were placed in rooms above the lounge area who suffered from late night - early hours noise from the bar.
The swimming pool was as stunning and we were very impressed by the staff who were on the go all day - cleaners, lifeguard, waiters etc.
We had never been with First Choice before and were so impressed with the entertainment program. Throughout the day there were events to join in if you wanted to. Kids club offered several sessions with varied activities. Very impressed with this! The entertainment team members were fantastic. Evenings were always perfect for families with young children - kids disco at a reasonable time followed by a relaxed quiz/game/show. Perhaps not the thing for couples without children though! We thoroughly enjoyed every evening of our holiday!
Hotel food was okay - a bit bland but nothing really offensive. Breakfast always offered plenty of choice (you MUST try the little cakes!), but dinner never boasted anything outstanding. However we did not go hungry! There was usually chips for the unadventurous and plenty of salad.
We were lucky with weather and hit the hotel at the right time, just before the crowds asscended! More guests arrived as the week progressed so pool/dining room got busier. We would imagine high season would be chaotic here.
All in all a wonderful holiday - hotel beautiful with very polite and friendly staff. Would definately recommend for families.

The food was good the first night we were there but as the week went on there wasnt enough choice, great if you enjoy turkey dinosaurs and chips! Couldnt fault the soup though. Can't really comment on the breakfast as never got up in time apart from the first few days recomend the freshly made pancakes though.
Theres plenty of entertainment in the town but the entertainment at the hotel is for the kids.
This was the first holiday together and would recomend this hotel but proberbly for families with young children who dont mind repetative cuisine.

The food was nice, but we did eat out in the resort a couple of times as it was a bit repetative.
As it was our honeymoon the hotel had supplied a nice bottle of champers in our room which was a very nice gesture.
The location was good, it was up a hill away from the main drag but within easy walking distance of everything.
The staff where very polite and very helpful, would bend over backwards for you.
The hotel entertainment was good for the kids and we did take part in the poolside quiz one day, but when its raining they do the quiz in the bar area which then gets a bit noisy and busy.
We would visit this hotel again.

| said: On arrival we where immediately impressed by the hotel location and cleanliness, my partner checked the room as if she was conducting a 'WHICH' report and gave a thumbs up.
The hotel is a five minute walk from Party Street and its bars and café's (two minutes if you use the back steps) and a good ten minute walk from the beach and the better seafront bars and restaurants.
We did not use the Hotel restaurant during our stay but the majority seemed to like it, just one or two rumours about bugs.
The room was spacious and top value the maid seemed to be permanently on hand, with clean towels daily.
Some of the staff seem a little offish but this is not personal, just the Bulgarian character after years of communist oppression.
The Bar is advertised as being open until the last person leaves, but was shut twice whilst we where still sober on our bar stools (OK it was 3am).
The pool was popular and clean but we only used it once, preferring the beach as ever.
I strongly suggest to you that, this hotel is boxing below its weight and deserves another star, book with confidence.

The children were especially poorly, despite taking medication symptoms were not subsiding. All the other families we spoke to whilst there also reported at least one member of the family was ill with horrendous D+V. First Choice reps were informed but just foobed everyone off saying there was not a problem at the hotel but it was a bug which had hit all of the Varna area.
On first appearances the hotel looks clean but at closer inspection the cracks start to appear. The pool area was not cleaned for the duration of our stay. One of our children was sick on a lounger, when I informed the clearner all she did was brush it of on to the poolside floor and left it there!!!
This was our 3rd visit to Bulgaria so our expections are realistic but will definately not be returning to this hotel.

I would say the location was quite good, although our room did face another hotel which played loud music from about 8.00am 'til 1.00am. The poolside was rather crowded and in the shade for a good part of the day. Also, it was a bit of a hazardous walk down to the beach, which was about 15 minutes away.
The hotel staff were brilliant - really friendly and helpful. The entertainment was brilliant, especially for kids. We particularly enjoyed the mini kids disco, bingo and blankety blank.
The entertainers, although not professional singers, provided good cabarets - they were really nice, funny, friendly girls who were great with kids. All in all, we had an absolutely fantastic time staying at this hotel and were very sad to leave!
We would definitely return again.

| said: We arrived at the Hotel Kristal on the 2nd of August and our rooms were ready for us and spotless, although one room had a really heavy smell of stale cigarette smoke which could not be got rid of. The same room also had an extractor fan in the bathroom that sounded like a moped refusing to start (!) but this was remedied to an acceptable level as soon as we complained to our cleaner.
The restaurant area was very disappointing, tables were only relaid on one dinner sitting and breakfast was chaos in the final hour. There were not enough staff to cope with the number of guests and the food lacked variety in its content and presentation.
The pool area was very overcrowded and the one area of the hotel that was not spotless. The tiles under the outer sunbeds were filthy and there was no attempt to clean this area in the two weeks we were there.
Entertainment was solely provided by First Choice entertainers and, other than the poolside quiz and evening bingo, was aimed at the under eights.
Although we had children with us there was nowhere in the hotel where you could find a quiet spot to relax. It was full of youngsters, who were often unruly, so if you want a bit of peace and quiet this is not the hotel for you!
We would not visit this hotel again. It is nowhere near a four star hotel and a long way behind many of the three star hotels we have stayed in.

When we first arrived there was a mix up with the interconnecting rooms being allocated in error to another party. However, the hotel staff upgraded us to a select room (Free of charge), which was lovely and spacious.
The pool was clear, clean and safe.
The food was varied enough for children and was good to eat.
The only downside to this hotel is the entertainment in the evening. There was enough for children but then nothing really for adults as it ended at 11pm. However, the bar is open all night or until the last person leaves.
Overall I would go back to Bulgaria as it proved a great experience.

| said: Just back from this hotel and had a ball. The hotel is spotless cleaners everywhere.
We found the food varied some days it was great others not so good, but never went hungry.
The location is great only about a 5 minute walk to beach and main shopping area discos bars eating places and good at night because you are far enough away from all the nightlife.
The hotel staff were very friendly, leaving things in your rooms like roses, made boats and different things out of the towels for the kids.
The only down side I felt to this hotel was entertainment plenty for kids not much for adults, the kids club was for 3/8 year olds nothing for older kids. The sessions were from 10/12, 1/3, 5/7, 9/11 the later one they had like a pizza party chocolate party and watched videos my kids loved it. They also played cash bingo every night which was worth winning if you were lucky.
I would go back to this hotel.

The food was ok most days but we did eat out quite a lot
as the menu was not very good some nights the breakfast was ok if you liked smoked bacon.
Not having any kids with us I can only comment on what was said by the couple who said they were very happy entainment was not good in the evening it was a kids disco followed by bingo a couple of live shows (in a fortnight ) pool side music till 11pm that was it.
Eating out was cheap we found a place just at the back door of our hotel called The Dallas Country Club do not be put off by the appearence 12 of us eat there one evening for 158 levs about £ 4.50 per head that was with a couple of drinks each most of us had steaks the peppered ones are brillant.

| said: We stayed at the Hotel Kristal - Golden Sands.
We found the hotel very clean, well decorated, good seating area in reception.
Our room was all so very clean, divan beds cleaned every day. While there was plenty of room in the dining room the food could have been better and more choice.
Good central, quiet location in easy reach of everything.
The staff were helpful and freindly.
The entertainment was more for children than adults.

| said: We stayed in Hotel Kristal at the beginning of June, the hotel was excellent, I have never been in a cleaner hotel.
The rooms are cleaned every day and people are cleaning where ever you go in the hotel. The food is lovely Bulgarian and European food, I would describe it as food your grandma would cook proper dinners and casseroles, loads of different salads, also nuggets and fish fingers for picky kids.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the beach up a hill, maybe too much if your elderly or not good on your feet. It is situatad far enough away from any bars to get a good nights sleep.
The hotel staff are very nice and helpful. The entertainment is very good if you have children, plenty to do around the pool and activities during the day, football, tennis, pool, water polo, quizes. Theres a club for young children and also a playground. There is family entertainment at night until about 10.30pm.
I would highly recommend this hotel to mainly people with families or couples who don't mind children. It may not be suitable for groups of young people because of the amount of children running around.

| said: We have just arrived back and it was fantastic, the first impression is lovely. The hotel has a great big reception area with leather settees and marble floor, with a bar and toilets also on this level.
The rooms were immaculate, nicely decorated and so clean. There seemed to be cleaners everywere. The food was very good a different choice every day from pancakes, curry, fish, roast beef, everything. I was worried having a 2 year old but he loved it.
There are 3 pools outside and one inside they are a little on the cold side but all were very nice, the hotel also has a shop, internet room, hairdressers, laundry service.
We loved it and have already booked for next year.
