| said: Le Meridien was a wonderful hotel when it first opened in 2001 and was better than the Sonesta now, in my opinion.
The hotel is now under different management and has changed its name to: Steigenberger Nile Palace - the level of customer service, food quality and cleanliness has dropped considerably but varies (according to others) as sometimes it seems to be a 'class hotel' and at other times it seems to rate at about three-star.
We won't be going back, sadly, but it's a magnificent hotel (in design) and relatively well placed with taxis available to take clients in to central Luxor (maximum of ten minutes by car).
I was saddened to see Le Meridien Luxor change... but I suppose that's inevitable. Food was OK in 2007 but not what is was in 2002 or 2003. Overall, three-stars in my opinion. If you get an offer of a good deal at the Steigenberger Nile Palace, try it?

| said: Stayed at The Meiriden in October, first impressions were good, very quick and efficient check in, a cool refreshing drink offered whilst you waited and your bags taken and delivered to your room. Beware of city view rooms (if you want to listen to the sound of cars horns all night, they don't indicate just honk), but went straight to reception next morning and was promptly moved to a courtyard room, much better. Given the price we paid, I really couldn't quibble
Pool area is small but we never failed to get a sunbed any day after returning from your excursions, remember all the tours go very early in the moring and generally your back in the hotel by lunch time, afternoons spent lazing by the pool, with the most astonishing view of the Nile - to die for. The food at the bar was good , if a little expensive for out there.
There was no end of excellent resturants near the hotel, so we never actually tried the resturants in the hotel, but didn;t hear any horror stories or bad report s about them either.
All in all, a lovely hotel, excellent service, staff weren't in your face all the time for tips. Food was good and the views over the Nile at sunset to be remembered for a lifetime.

| said: The hotel was only some 15mins from the airport through the centre of Luxor - the perfect way to start our holiday.
It was almost as far as you could get from the town which means that Luxor temple is about 5mins by car or 20 Min's walk, this is a good point as you are staying right on the Nile and away from the chaos in the town centre. Check-in was simple, friendly and efficient.
The Nile view rooms were good and in fair condition - the bathroom was always clean with towels etc changed daily. The previous occupants were smokers and we found out later that the 1st floor was the non-smoking floor.
As this was really only a place to sleep, it was more than acceptable - the whole point of going to Luxor is to get out and get the culture! Yes, the pool is small but there always seemed to be spare loungers and someone to dash out with towels (!) who goes there to sit by a pool - well, if only to recharge the batteries ready for the next foray into the ruins.
Breakfast was decidedly average with not that much choice; fine if you are into yogurt, fruit etc. The Moroccan and Italian 'restaurants' were acceptable but nothing particularly exciting - reasonable grub for a reasonable price.
The Oriental at the Sonesta next door was superb and an absolute must (a little more pricey). The staff were always polite and very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Walking around the town we were repeatedly 'hassled' but in a non-threaten way, always with a smile and a joke and they soon got the message if you said no and left you alone. So much better than Tunisia!!
Entertainment was interesting and a little hit and miss but more than acceptable for whiling away an hour or so over dinner. Overall, I've stayed in better 4* hotels with better food but for the money and the location it is difficult to beat - definitely one to go back to.

| said: I would give this hotel a maximum 3 star rating.
The rooms were very standard and could tell had not been refubished for quite a few years. Dust and dirt from the ceiling tiles above the bath would drop down every couple of days.
The pool was tiny and certainly not big enough for the size of the hotel.
The restaurants on the hotel grounds were quite nice but they never changed their menu's and even had the same one for luch as evening.
The gym didn't really have that much in it either and was basic equipment. If your looking for a luxury holiday stay in the hotel next door (Sonesta St George)

| said: The hotel was very clean. We were supplied with clean towels everyday. The maid survice was excellent, with the rooms being cleaned daily.
The breakfast in the hotel was excellent, plenty to choose from. Hot and cold choices available.
The hotel in situated write on the nile, with fantasic views. Not to close to the city center but only a short walk alway from shops and resturaunts.
Most of the staff were polite and very helpful.
The entertainment was good, however i found that they repeated the same acts a few nights in a row.
I would visit this hotel again.
The local horse rides and taxi's are very cheap, and easy to get access to!

| said: We only stayed at this hotel for 3 nights but thought it was lovely and if we were staying in Luxor again would definately pick this hotel again.
The staff were all very friendly and everywhere was kept very clean.
The restraunts were all very nice to eat in, I particularly liked the Lebanese one in the courtyard, we had a very nice meal here and it wasnt very expensive at all.
The main restraunt for breakfast or dinner had a very good selection which should suit even the most fussy eaters.
The pool bar was very good for lunch snacks but the service seemed quite slow.
The hotel was about 20mins walk from the temple of Luxor and the mumification museum, if you are going to walk I would advise you to go early in the morning before it gets too hot.....seemed like a lot farther on the way back at lunchtime!!
Hot air balloon trips can be arranged, we went through our rep but I think there is a man who sells trips in the main lobby.
The entertainment that we saw wasn't bad, a chinese show and music in the courtyard most evenings I think.

The staff were friendly and polite and the rooms were spacious and shining clean. We ordered room service on our arrival and it was delivered promptly, the food was lovely and the cost was very reasonable.
The breakfast was great, spoilt for choice.
Fully stocked mini bar which included two big bars of cadbury's chocolate. What more could a girl ask for!

| said: The Le Meridien is a lovely hotel overlooking the Nile(if you take a river view room which is a must)...The rooms, staff, pool area etc were all first class and very reasonably priced for drinks and food(although being B&B only ate by the pool on a couple of occasions)...
My only complaint was that on eating in the italian which was situated in the hotels courtyard(like a sauna in the evenings due to no air con)we were overcharged when paying the bill(as they had charged me for 3 starters and main courses, when there were only two of us eating)..
When I pointed this out,the staff were very apologetic(apart from the waiter who had overcharged us originally)...Across the courtyard is the hotels Lebanese which i couldn't fault...Excellent

As for the location of the hotel great, but you must have a Nile view to really appreciate it.
Now as far as entertainment is concerned its really non existent,a bloke in the central courtyard sings the same songs every single night, [very badly]and yes I would visit the hotel again.

Would go again!
Had Italian meal on last night of stay. Great value, the sweets are great!

| said: This hotel was fantasic!! Quite a big hotel basically right in the middle of Luxor about 15 mins drive from the temple of Luxor and 30mins from Karnak, close to shops and restaurants.
The hotel is extremely clean and very tidy, beautiful decoration on the walls and floor. Great size rooms very spacious tv, fridge, shower/bath very impressed with the room also you get a small balcony. You can upgrade to a room with a Nile view but you do have to pay although I'm not sure on the price.
Breakfast is out of this world so much to choose from salads, omeletes pancakes, sandwiches, egg on toast, cereal, plenty of hot food and free drinks refills. You can get as much or little as you want, everything is fresh everything I had was great, although we were only bed and breakfast so I can't mention dinner or evening meals.
Staff are extremely friendly will do everything to make your stay as pleasant as possible, many of them speak very good English.
Entertainment was a bit lacking they have singers every night from about 9pm - 10:30pm so you can get a good night sleep, pool table is avaliable in the pub £3 for a hour, large swimming pool with plenty of sun loungers but you better claim them quick they don't last long. TV with 28 channels of which about 5/6 are English some great films on, there is also a gym free to all guests. They also provide massages for around £24, 240le, and internet facilites for £1 for 30mins or £1.50 for 1 hour although it can be slow.
On a whole this is a fantasic hotel with great staff, extremely clean building, great location, would definately stay again.

| said: This hotel was fantastic. It was absolutely spotless, and we would return to our room after it had been cleaned to find everything on the bedside tables arranged by size. All shoes very neatly lined up and the toiletries in the bathroom arranged by size and colour!
The choice of food for breakfast was brilliant you could eat as much or as little as you want. We ate lunch in all the restaurant but our favourite was the poolside restaurant although the pasta at the Italian was pretty good too. The main restaurant in the evening - well the food choice wasn't overly exciting but there was always something we liked and the 'hot plate' section in the middle did a different special of pasta or Chinese every evening.
The hotel is a little way from the centre of town but this really was not a problem.
We had paid the extra for a Nile view and it was worth every penny, great sunsets every night, and a constantly changing view without us moving. Also we had the sun on our balcony for most of the day so if the pool area was crowded we didn't care!
The room was very comfortable and spacious.
Hotel staff were very helpful and very friendly, time permitting they were happy to chat about the resort, the history, their own lives and ours and Egypt and things in general, but they were never intrusive the way some people are if you talk to them, and they then make a beeline for you every time you appear - just friendly people.
We didn't bother with the entertainment which was a singer in the courtyard, fair better to relax in the bar, in the air conditioning, and watch the world go by!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, when we return to Luxor this is where we will be heading.

| said: Very impressive looking hotel, which makes the most of a fairly narrow plot of land facing on to the Nile. You enter into one build where reception is and then walk through a courtyard with a fountain in the middle where there is an Italian and a Middle Eastern restaurant into the rear building where there are other rooms, pub, shops, buffet restaurant. Through that is the swimming pool. We had a Nile view room which was very spacious with a large balcony, efficient air conditioning and double glazing.
The pool area was always packed during the day and you generally had to get there early to obtain the shade or sun you wanted. The pool attendants were very good, obtaining and putting up umbrellas when you wanted.
We weren't impressed by the food in the hotel. Breakfast was fine, with a good variety, but the food in the Italian and the Middle Eastern restaurant was very bland. (That at the Sonesta St George next door was much better!) The other gripe was that the Novotel hotel next door moored its cruise boat right next to the Meridien's swimming pool with its engines running all the time, so when you were by the pool you were inhaling exhaust fumes.

| said: I would advise anyone asking for Nile View rooms to be aware that some on ground floor level may be noisy at night eg. near bar.
Food in main restaurant for evening meal lacking atmosphere and food variety poor if you are eating there every night and food left in containers too long.
Room service was excellent food arrived quickly and good value compared to other 5 star hotels we have stayed in.
Had to complain about not receiving wake up call. Anyone contemplating taking hot air balloon ride highly recommended booked at hotel reception an amazing experience.

The staff were friendly and helpful they couldn't do enough for you.
The food in the hotel was lovely and there was a great range to suit everyone. We recommend room service if you fancy a quiet night in.
The entertainment in the hotel is very low key but most nights this was good because sightseeing makes you tired.
This hotel is also in a great location for touring but be careful of some of the prices you get charged by the tour operators (shop around)! We will go back to this hotel but at a different time of year as it was very hot.
