We stayed here in May 2008 and while it was nice it wasnt 100%, the breakfast was ok but the table it was laid out on was crawling with ants and offputting seems they could shoo the cats away but not the ants .

The rooms were cleaned everyday but everytime the cleaner had been in there was a smell, this we found to be coming from a used mop it seems she used the same mop water on every room and the mop was smelling .

the location of the hotel is good apart from the very steep hill it sits on .

We enjoyed our stay and the friends we made , we have to say there were a cpl of grumpy older people staying here who were in bed by ten and complained about the rest of us having a drink in the bar a bit later on we were not rowdy by any means just enjoying our holiday .

We wouldnt use this hotel again we have to say some who claim to go back every yr seem to think they own it and are allocated better rooms than newcomers which was the cause for jokes from newcomers , the resort is fab though and we would go back to the place .

I had read about this "jasmin smelling paradise" and booked a week here as part of a two centre holiday with Cesme as the first week.

It can sometimes come as a huge disappointment when you have set your hopes quite high and as our transfer time was approaching I wondered if Villa Konak would prove to be a let down.

It did not. I loved the place. There was a bit of a walk down to the bars and eating places and an even tougher walk back but this is one of the few hotels I have ever been in where I could easily contemplate just staying in for the day - normally I get twitchy and want to get moving - but this place was the nearest I can imagine to a gulet holiday (which we love) but on land. It has the same relaxed feel to it.

I am not going to recommend it though - we don't want too many people learning of the secret of this wonderful place so please keep this information to yourself.

ps I agree about the tuna sandwich - it is quite a meal.

We first stayed at the Villa Konak several years ago, by accident. We thought it was a different hotel. We had a big shock when we arrived and were told that the coach would be unable to take us there. We were taken by minibus until we stopped half way down a steep cobbled, narrow road. There was no sign of the resort centre or anywhere to dine. We had only booked Bed and Breakfast. Once inside we found a paradise on earth. Lovely smell of jasmine greeted us. Friendly staff and comfortable room. We dumped our bags and went to explore. 100 yds down the hill we found ourselves at the centre of everything. The first restaurant we came to The Dedem Kebab was the best we found all holiday. However the walk back up the hill not suitable for the less mobile. Taxi at the bottom of the hill. Walk hasn't put us off as we have been staying at the Villa Konak for at least6 years now. It has been reduced from the 27 rooms to approx 21. Some of the rooms have been made bigger. There are now Televisions, fridges, internet access and air conditioning. However the original fans are still on the ceilings and we always use these. The honesty bar is still there and the prices are very fair. Bedding is changed twice a week and the maid tidys up every day. Breakfast is basic but adequate. Snacks are available throughout the day and very good value. The Tuna sandwich is a meal to behold also the fruit salad. Kaya and his lady wife cook a meal two or three times a week. A chance to sample good Turkish food with wine included. The quality is excellent and a good way of making friends as we sit on one long table. Every day at 5p.m. Kaya and staff invite everyone for tea accompanied by a different turkish delicacy each day. This is included in the cost of your holiday. The Villa Konak has it's regular guests and we have made some marvellous friends. The Villa is not suitable for youngsters as there is no entertainment. You can go into town for that. There is a small pool and sun loungers which are free. The grounds of the villa are immaculate with many peaceful secluded spots with deckchairs and even a hammock.
As long as we can get up the hill we will continue to stay at the Villa Konak - we feel like family. It was the nbest mistake I ever made.

We took an allocated on arrival deal to the Bodrum Peninsular and I was gutted when we were told we faced a 2 hour transfer from the airport to Kusadasi.

When we arrived at Kusadasi we were told we had to transfer to a minibus as the coach would not reach the hotel due to it's location on a steep and narrow road in the Turkish quarter.

As we pulled up the hill to Villa Konak our hearts sank as it looked like we had drawn a very short straw. However as soon as we walked in through the front door into a semi open reception area and smelt the Jasmine and Lemon blossom wafting up from the garden we started to wonder exactly what we had been brought to.

The staff at this family run hotel were some of the nicest people I have ever met on holiday and the owner, Kaya, was so welcoming we relaxed immediately. Despite his concerns that I had 2 teenage children with me he soon realised we had no intention of behaving in a loud and disruptive manner to spoil the enjoyment of his other, older guests.

The rooms were very basic but immaculately clean as were all other areas of this oasis. The pool is small but absolutely adequate for the numbers who can stay here. The garden has many cubby holes that you can escape to for your own peace and quiet.

The bars work on a trust basis where you simply record what you have had on a chart and pay at the end of the holiday. This goes for all snacks, meals, softdrinks and icecreams. it really is help yourself and be honest.

On quite a few of the nights Kaya would cook for all those who requested it and all guests gathered around a huge table to eat as part of his extended family. He takes great delight in teaching those who are interested how to prepare and cook breads in the ancient bread oven.

My family all still talk about our visit to Villa Konak and I am sure we will return in the near future. This hotel is a real gem.
