| said: If you are travelling to the hotel via taxi don't make the same mistake that we did and pay them £20 to the hotel. The actual cost should be no more that £10 or 100LE. The taxi drivers are very adept at putting you in the taxi and not letting you see the blue board that has the prices on them.
The food in this hotel is very bland. The lunch menu seemed to be better than the evening menu. If you have children you will be involved in the rush at 7pm, when dinner starts, to get down the stairs and get to 'Kid Corner' - 3 food warmers for the children - where you will probably have to fight with adults with no children trying to fill up their plates! The food is served in three different places around the dining room making it very difficult, especially when you first arrive, to ensure that you get to see all what is on offer. One serving area is positioned in a very difficult place where the staff are leaving with dirty plates and entering with drinks trays. You will also find that the initial 7pm rush people have a tendency just to go straight to the servers so it is best to wait until that queue has died down. As mentioned above, if with children go straight to 'Kids Corner'. We ate once in 'La Terraza', pay restaurant, and to be honest the food was not any better than the AI food. The maitr'd in this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.
The hotel is kept very clean. Considering that the water has a tendency to run red and you leave a nice mark after every bath, the rooms were kept to high standard. The rooms are comfortable.
The location of the hotel is fine but obviously there is a lot of building work going on around. You cannot hear this from the rooms.
The hotel staff were very friendly. It can be a bit difficult to get a drink through dinner as they have to go out of the dining room and get it, making it very hap-hazard as to when you get served.
A big down side to this hotel, as this was our first visit to Egypt we don't know whether this is usual, but the beer is served in small glasses and usually half beer and half head, so you are constantly up and down to the bar if you like a drink.
The pool areas are kept clean. We spent most of our time down at the small pool - quieter. You can still hear the music from the beach but at a reasonable distance.
Our 7 year old son enjoyed the kids club and it's a good way of keeping them out of the sun all day. The evening entertaninment by way of the children is the same mini-disco songs every night for half an hour. When the disco is down at the ampitheatre, and if you like a drink, ensure you pick up enough to last for the duration as there is no bar there and you will have to go to the big pool bar to top up! We didn't go to any of the adult shows. There is a family evening on a Saturday in the shopping mall opposite the hotel. It is described as a huge thing - films, face painting etc but in essence it is on the square, the coffee shops etc will charge you money to sit on their chairs (fair enough) and no drinks for adults but there is an off licence to purchase.
The grounds are kept in very good condition. The only problem we found was that when they used the hoses the smell was not the most pleasant. You will also find that there needs to be more lighting at the steps going down in the grounds.
All in all I don't think that we would rush back to this hotel. Just a little too far out from anything else really. The closest 'town' is Naama Bay which is nice for visit.

We thought this hotel was fantastic, good food and the staff were brill.Jimmy in the dining room was a laugh ,Rafat and Karrem were great.
The hotel has great pools and a fantastic beach, very clean no need to take beach towels as all provided. All inclusive at this hotel is what it says. Nothing to pay for only the Italian.
Rooms were cleaned every day and bedding changed. The gardens were kept really nice.
The beach party is a must we really enjoyed it,even went again the second week. The beach has a paved walkway which is great for seeing other hotels on the hire bikes. We booked a trip on quad bikes from beach hut, this is not to be missed .
We had tummy troubles but there is a pharmacy across the road for tablets ,they will put you right.only pay 7 pounds sterling.
Enjoyed it so much we have booked again for Feb 2008.

Staff fantastic. Food was a disgrace not enough choice for children.
The entertainment was not good enough childrens disco lasted a half hour, had to walk from hotel to watch show once or twice a week in very sticky heat.
This was, supposed to be all inclusive but not on these nights. Staff work hard for a small wage. Had small baby who would not eat food, only milk> They tried to charge us 3 pound 20 pence for carton of milk,in the hotel shop bag of nappies 20 pound(English).
Had to make 2 phone calls to home one lasted 11 minutes and 19 minutes cost 74 pound 80 pence(English).
Would not go back and would not recommend it to others.

| said: We have just returned from a great week at the Oriental hotel. The hotel was always kept very clean and the friendliness of the staff was great.
We have been to Sharm many times and know not to expect English breakfasts etc, but the food at this hotel was great.
There was always a choice of pasts, salad, 2/3 types of meat, fish veg and even mashed potatoes in the evening.
The soups and sweets were also fantastic. The hotel is about 25 Min's away from Namma Bay by taxi and this cost around 55 to 60 Egyptian pounds to get there or old sharm for 4 or more people & the hotel also runs a courtesy bus but it is 25LE per person and the taxi drive is certainly a fun experience.
We have in the past at various other hotels suffered from stomach problems, but whilst here none of our party suffered at all even after drinking a bit too much red wine!

| said: This hotel was truly a 5 star experience with the exception of Medhotels who appear to be better suited to 3 star but in no way reflected the quality and standard of service in the hotel.
The rooms were spacious and the housekeeping good.
Restaurant food superb with a massive choice at every meal including two dishes per meal cooked by a chef at the counter - eggs and pancakes at breakfast and a meat and pasta at lunch/dinner. Food at the pool bars was poor.
The entertainment team were very active and innovative and put on a show every evening in the open air theatre preceded by disco for the kids although they made last minute excuses for no show when there were not enough people which I couldnt blame them for considering the standard.
An excellent hotel that I would recommend.

| said: I read reviews before I went and they I don't think there was any exaggeration in their comments. Food is OK but rather monotonous. Rooms are rather tired and could do with some redecorating.
After complaining 3 times to the management we got our toilet repaired after it was out of action for 24 hours. Not impressed with that at all. The staff are always smiling and cheerful (well in the dining room anyway) and very helpful (except where mending toilets are concerned). Both pool bars are a bit shabby and could do with refurbishing. When I've been to all inclusive before you always got coffee/cake around 5pm. Never saw anything at the quieter pool bar at the beach and could have done with something down there.
Went for lunch to the beach bar one day for a change instead of the slog in 40 degree heat to the dining room, what a joke. A meat dish was finished, this was three quarters of an hour into lunch. So you could have chips or pizza. The pizza was a piece of bread that had been put in the oven and had a couple of dollops (and I'm not exaggerating here) of something that looked like tomato ketchup (there wasn't enough of it on there to really see what it was). The beach was fine, the jetty was wobbly and after a few nights of very strong winds the end collapsed into the sea. The sea is crystal clear and warm though.
The entertainment in the evening is second rate.
Overall, as other people have said, this hotel is not a 5 star hotel by any standards. We still enjoyed our holiday during the day but the evenings dragged a bit as there was nothing to do in the hotel, unless you are a footie fan and wanted to watch one of the matches.
We went to the Bedouin night of stars, really good, standing in the middle of the desert in the pitch black while a guide points out the constellations in the night sky, brill. Then you see the planet Saturn in the telescope. Great night.
We did the trip to Cairo by plane. A long, tiring day but I was determined to see the pyramids. Not disappointed except for the people keep pestering you to buy and a policeman coming up to us asking for a coke, what a cheek!
We originally booked a trip to the Dominican Republic in September with Thomson for our silver wedding. Come February they changed the flights to 3 days later and because of work commitments we couldn't go. Egypt was the only available holiday left in our budget/timescale etc that we liked the look of, we were very disappointed with the standard of the hotel as a whole. Not worth the money.

| said: The Oriental Resort was by far one of the most beautiful hotels we have stayed in. Staff were fantastic and willing to do anything to make us happy (this was not difficult!!).
Food was plentiful and most enjoyable, in fact some of the food was alien to us but we loved it! Cleanliness was a high priority to the staff and high standards were met. The pools always had enough sunbeds for every one, as did the beach.
There was no overcrowding during the day, just a slight delay when getting drinks at the bar but in such beautiful surroundings this was not an issue for us. We will definately go back to this hotel. A holiday we will never forget. Thank you Oriental Resort.

| said: Although rated as a 5 star Hotel in reality it is at best a very good 3 star plus.
Generally clean and well presented the hotel lacks any real character and leaves you feeling you could be in any country. There are no lifts available so it is not really practicable for those who have difficulty walking as there are 3 levels and the restuarants are at the bottom of sweeping staircases. The rooms are basic but comfortable but could do with a good lick of paint and some new furniture, the blankets and sheets were not very clean.
There is a variety of food on offer which is very well presented and has won hygeine awards and this was of a high standard.
Entertainment forget the entertainment the poorest I have experienced abroad, better off staying at the bar.
The hotel does have lovely gardens with fountains, waterfalls and manacured lawns which are kept in excellent condition and put some aspects of the hotel to shame
Staff are freindly but do expect tipping and the service can at times be slow
The beach bar and beach amenities are excellent and well worth a visit.
All in all a relaxing hotel basic and comfortable but dissapointing for a 5 star
