the hotel was very very clean the maids did a very good job on cleaning and making the beds and they were very trust worthy with our stuff and if we were still in the room they would come back later if needs be. the hotel food was lovely it was really nicely cooked. the hotel location i thought was in a perfect place by shops and resturants and not too far from the beach and easy to get to the centre of side by taxi or dolmish. the hotel staff were wonderful easy to talk to and very friendly and funny and warm spirited. im afraid to say that i only went 2 the turkish night which was excellent so i cant say much about the kareoke night or the rock and roll night or the bingo night but im sure it was a good nights entertainment. i would definately go to melissa gardens again and again and recommend it to anyone who loves music and loves night time shopping and stopping by the bar for a drink.

Do not go to these apartments if you have children and you want to sleep at night. We only stood it two nights then asked to be moved. There are disco bars immediately adjacent to these premises and the noise is unbearable until 3am in the morning every night.
If it were not for the noise then the apartments were huge, clean and in a decent location for the beach and restaurants. I am complaining bitterly to Thomas cook about being completely missold these apartments as suitable for a family holiday. If everyone in the family is deaf then maybe but otherwise its a no go. Please be warned.

Melissa Gardens was by far the best holiday myself my partner and our three children aged 9, 10 and 14 have had.

The rooms were very clean and spacious, cleaned daily including clean towels and bedding. The maids were really trust worthy.

We had most of our meals in the hotel as the food was the best there from our experience, they were good quality and value.

The hotel was good location for the beach, shops and bars maybe a little loud for those who prefer an early night or light sleepers but for us this was no problem at all.

The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble and they were very entertaining in themselves.

We had a Turkish night during our stay which was very good as was the Turkish bbq.

I would visit this hotel again without a doubt.

We moved to this hotel as our booked hotel was not up to standard! This hotel was much better. Fisrtly the air con was £60 cheaper than our previous hotel was going to charge us for cooling one bedroom. The air con at melissa gardens although in one room (the living area) cooled the whole apartment if the doors were left slightly ajar! The apartment was imacuate and very spacious. The cleaners were extremly trustworthy i left my ipod and 87 euros on my bedside table and it was still there when i returned.

Eating out! We go selfcatering not expecting to cook so we were not dispointed with the kitchen utensils, using only the kettle and fridge. The hotel food was inexpensive. As for eating out it cost us on average £35 (including drinks) for 2 adults and 2 15yr olds.

Melissa gardens was in a much better location than our first hotel. And being in room 13 directly below room 15 (the room from hell) we were parallel to the night clubs, the music did not prevent us from sleeping. The hassel from the bars outside was no worse than anywhere else in Turkey.

The staff were friendly, efficient and very enteraining, insuring all your needs were met. The night time entertainment consisted of an excellent Turkish night(the best we have ever been to), a magic show for young children and bingo!

If we were visiting Side again we would definately choose this hotel!!!

The apartments were fantastically huge, clean and well equiped. We went self catering not expecting to cook so consequently having only a 2 ring stove didn't bother us at all. We only used the fridge (huge) and kettle. Maids came in daily so the apartment was kept wonderfully clean.

The pool was fine, although very crowded with screaming children and not easy to find a sunbed, however there is a quiter pool across a little road which we discovered on our last day. Didn't bother us too much however, as plenty to do outwith the apartments. If we intended to stay around the complex we might as well have gone to Butlins.

The location was awful unfortunatley. I think Thomas Cook misrepresented the location as we thought it would be nearer the old town of Side which is beautiful. We were slap bang in the middle of club land (Kumkoy). Loud thumping music all night, no escape and reps staying above and below us so noise early morning also.

Hotel staff wonderful. So friendly and happy and funny and attentive.

Entertainment not up our street. Prefer authentic entertainment rather than karaoke.

We would definitley visit these apartments again if they were in a different location within Side.

We have just returned from these apartments 27/6/05 we were located in room 15, the room from hell,!

To get to this room you climbed a twisted staircase 62 steps in total one way, and at our middle 50s it was very tiring. Once you enter this apartment that is huge in size like a flat - great! The first thing that hits you is the heat no air con?? I asked reception, my reply to this was "Yes sir £21 pr week extra" so I paid it after unpacking. I found the air con cools only the living room!! and not the bedrooms, bathroom, or kitchen and every time you leave the room to go out this air con will not work so you return to a very hot room.

On self catering you usely find a cooker for this purpose on entering the kitchen you find a 2 ring like a camping cooker, no oven!! and only one of these rings work. You have two stew pots, a frying pan, and a gravy pot - remember you have 1 ring to cook on!

We went shopping, if you can find any food to buy that is, we found a few bits for breakfast on went the eggs, no tin opener, so you have to go down to reception to ask for a tin opener, on telling them they tell you to buy one, or to come to reception to open a can every time, remember the 62 steps you will have to climb.

It's time for your eggs now, yes no spatula, anyway I think these apartments should be rated on room only as the rest is a waste of time as self catering.

It is time for bed, if you think you will sleep think again, there is a restaurant next door, Linda's its called, that becomes a disco, music is so loud till 3 or 4 am everyday. You've got no chance to sleep be warned!

Electric cuts occur quite often, then there isn't any emergency lighting anywhere at all in these apartments, you will struggle to find your way out of the room. If you do get out you have to find your way down a twisting staircase which again has no emergency lighting. If there is ever a fire it would be very difficult to get out alive!

The good points: Staff are fantastic really look after you but when you go, hang on to everything as they will nick it as they did with my wifes sunglasses. They walked off with them.

My ratings are, stay away from room 15 the room from hell. Ask for an apartment low down as carrying shopping etc up those 62 steps every day is tiring after 7 days. If they are not fully booked they should change you. If in room 15 take extra money for eating out, it isn't cheap at these restaurants, costs £30 each.

Our self catering cost us the cost of an all inclusive holiday. We were glad to get home. We went for a holiday and came back like we had worked 5 nightshifts continuous.

Enjoy your holiday. Swimming pools great for kids and there is another adults fantastic. I think Thomas Cook should refund us for this mislaid holiday brochure.

This holiday it was really a nightmare.

We stayed for a day and night with friends who were staying at Mellisa Gardens and the atmosphere was a million times better than the hotel we had in Alanya.

The Melissa Gardens apartments are situated approximately 2 miles outside the main resort of Side and comprise 68 apartments. The distance however was no problem as there were both taxi and dolmus right outside the door. There were a number of restaurants outside the apartments so there was no lack of choice. The downside was that you were constantly and persistently and sometimes aggressively stopped in the street and challenged as to why you were not coming into a particular bar or restaurant.

The first thing you notice about the apartments is the size, they are enormous! Both the 1 bedroom and in particular the 2 bedroom apartments have all the living space you would ever want with balconies to match. Our 1 bedroom flat had a sparsely furnished living roomm come second bedroom but the main bedroom itself had plenty of both drawer and wardrobe space.

Maid service was daily and efficient, towels and linen changed regularly. Hygiene and general cleanliness were of a very high standard as they were kept spotless throughout the holiday.

Food in the complex was ok but no better than that, we found the portions to be considerably smaller than that given outside the apartments. Prices were also reasonable for both food and drink but certainly more expensive than in previous years.

The staff were overall brilliant, particularly the head waiter who insured that you received every assistance where necessary. Our only complaint was that from the moment we arrived (around midnight!) although welcomed with half price drinks, we were immediately asked if we would be attending the £10 BBQ, this went on for several days but we had a word with the head waiter and he sorted it out.

Entertainment was twice weekly, a BBQ on a Friday costing £10 with belly dancers and other Russian type dancers, we did not go but apparently it was excellent value for money. There was also a free belly dance show on a Wednesday and that just about sums up the entertainment!

There were however 2 pools which were kept really clean and well maintained on a daily basis. If you wanted to go to the local beach then it was less than a 10 minute stroll from the apartments, it to was clean although devoid of any bar or restaurants facilities for about 10 minutes walk in either direction. There were however ski-jets and paragliding available if you are into that sort of thing. The water appeared clean and we enjoyed a lovely refreshing paddle a few times. (Still to cold for actual swimming!)

A word of caution, if you have any mobility difficulties please note that the Melissa Gardens have stairs everywhere and that there are no lifts in any of the blocks of apartments.

Overall though we had a good time and would not hesitate to go back.
