The hotel itself is nice enough and is kept clean and tidy. The rooms are comfortable enough but nothing above average. The location of the hotel however in relation to busy noisy roads is very poor. I e-mailed before hand and asked for a room overlooking the pool on the third floor away from the bar. What I got was the fifth floor, on the busy road where all the disco traffic (cars buses and pedestrians) pass by up till 4 or 5 in the morning, singing dancing and peeping horns. One morning at 4.30 I was seriously thinking about filling a bucket of water and throwing it on the revellers below!

The pool side is hectic if you want to lie in the sun. There is only one entrance to the pool area and this stays locked up till 9am every morning. People start queueing from aroun 8:15 to get sunbeds in the sun. If you're any later than 9:45 you'll struggle to get a sunbed at all and if you do it's likely to be in the shade. They really need to cut down some trees, get rid of the small footbal pitch or the crazy golf to give more room. Beds are packed so tight you struggle to move around. Bar side prices are high too 4.8eu for an optic of vodka & lemon! Wait till Happy hour and don't drink the very short spirits.

The adult entertainment is poor with not much enthusiasm given to anything. The childrens entertainers are good though and take good care of the kids whether they are going to the club or just dropping in.

The hotel is around a 20 minute walk from Portaventura, around 8 euros in a taxi. Around 15 minutes from the main beach at Salou and 10 minutes from the small beach.

Just back from 5 nights at the Golden Avenida. The weather was kind but the pool was still freezing.

This hotel offerred us excellent value for money and is very child focussed - all day there was something going on, be it kids clubs or family games that everyone can enjoy.

We were self catering so can't comment on the food but enjoyed the happy hour in the evening (which coincides with the kids discos). Hotel isn't brand new but the facilities offered suit well. There's an excellent play park with a variety of childrens slides and the pool is big enough (and deep enough) to have a really good swim.

We didn't have any problem with the sunbeds but probably due to the time of year.

Kids clubs were superb - my 2 should have been in different groups (due to their ages) but they could go in a 'drop in' club together'

Really great family hotel

We have just returned from the Golden Avenida a couple of days ago and we are already talking about booking again next year. Having stayed at a Golden hotel a few times before we where aware of the format but this hotel surpassed our expectations.

Before we arrived we had e-mailed the hotel and asked for a pool view on or around the third floor. When we arrived we got exactly what we had asked for.

Room 326 was perfectly positioned with a good size balcony and a great view of the pool and play areas. Just far enough back from the bar to have no problems with the noise.

The reception staff where excellent with a few of them being British and the others speaking good English. Check in was smooth and the room was great.

As there was 5 of us we expected it to be cramped but it was fine. Nice and clean which pleased the wife who generally finds faults where ever we go but was stumped this time.

We went self catering but chose to eat in the hotel as they offered a dinner ticket for 65 Euros for 6 nights for adults and kids under 11 eat for half price. The selection was great and the service even better.

The staff in the restaurant where very friendly and always glad to help. Sunbeds where a bit mental. Queuing started at 8 with doors opening at 9.

There where still beds after the first rush however all the best spots where gone quickly. You could also purchase a mat for the beds at 2 Euros a day but again these went quick. It was quite amusing watching it from the balcony but as the missus is a sun worshiper more often than not I was leading the pack.

Entertainment staff where amazing. David, Dan Sam and Chris show great patience with the kids and there is enough entertainment going on all day for the whole family.

The way they all joined in with things was brilliant. They made you feel very comfortable in their company and what amazed me was how easy they could make grown adults make a complete fool of themselves when it came to the dances they got them doing.

Anyone who's been there will never forget the Court of King Coraticous (wrong spelling I'm sure)but it was all done in good fun. Both my wife and i where on the stage taking part in competitions which is not like us and my son David won numerous awards for games the entertainers had put on during the day.

The best night for us was a Sunday when the Thomson reps put a show on for us as it was David's day off. The effort this team put in was fantastic and done with such enthusiasm that you could not help but get involved. Chris was a star here as he normally deals with the kids but gave everything for the adults as well.

Without a shadow of a doubt the entertainers are a huge part on why we will be back. The Golden hotel & Thomsons Super Family have a great team here and we have been recommending the hotel to our friends and family. Sometimes the teenagers that where there where a bit rowdy round the pool and at night but in general the behavior of the kids at the hotel was great.

One slight draw back was the opening times of the on site shop. It opened from 9 till 13.15 then closed till 14.00 then opened again for a couple of hours. Not sure why it didn't stay open and at times it was frustrating as the nearest shop is a bit away.

The hotel is situated in a great location. Just far enough away from the main drag (approx 5 mins walk) that you don't get all the hustle and bustle.

When you get to the main drag you are almost dead center of the main street. Turning right takes you down to the beach where the fountains are amazing at night and the kids could actually run in the middle of one that shot up from the ground in a circle which kept them amused. The lights from the fountains make for brilliant photos. If you go to Salou you must do this.

We bought a 14 day pass for the price of 3 off the Internet before we went which was great. We went 4 times and each time stayed for 4 - 5 hours. The way we planned it was we targeted certain rides on certain days which made perfect sense.

I went on a ride called the Hurukan Condor(or something like that) and all I'll say is it cured my constipation. I won't be doing it again though that's for sure.

Taxi from the hotel to PV is just 5 Euros ish and the return in a taxi is between 9 & 10 Euros although you can walk it back and it's easy. Facilities in the hotel where brill.

They had 3 pools, a table tennis table, a football pitch, a small kids play area and a bigger kids play area. Certainly enough to keep my 10 & 3 year olds happy all day. Kids club starts at 8, bingo at 9 and entertainment at 10 so the nights well planned out and the acts are varied and well presented.

They finish at 11 then it's music till 12 if you fancy some dancing. All in all it was great value for money and a definite for a return trip.

We stayed in the Golden Avenida Suites with Thomson for two weeks but was booked through Kings world travel. we were delayed from Glasgow airport by two and a half hours and arrived at about 1am at Reus airport was OK we had to walk from the plane to the airport no bus we then got to the luggage claim and we waited for about 45 minutes for the baggage to come from the plane we collected the luggage and went to the hotel we booked a taxi from holiday taxi recommended as the driver was waiting for us out side the arrivals. we got to the hotel and the receptionist was very helpful and nice we looked at the apartment and it was spotlessly clean not a thing out of place we looked on to the main road i must admit it was some times a bit nosy with the buses but we got use to it we had fresh clean towels every day and the beds were always made we had British satellite TV in the apartment the kitchen had all the basics the pool was out of this world it was beautiful but all the sunbeds are away but the good thing was that the hotel removed any towels from the sunbeds which are unattended before 10:15 am we went to the beach is beautiful the sea was lovely. Salou it self has changed since we were here the last time in 2001 i must be honest Salou has a bit let it self go were the hotel is down the street there is 3 clubs all across from each other on a friday and Saturday you can not move it is so busy the spanish put trees on the pavement so there are big holes everywhere a bit hard trying to get by the spanish as they do not move for you even if you have children. The clubs give out leaflets and buy morning they are everywhere on the pavement at the bank one theses were laying from friday night through to Sunday and had not been cleaned up it is still clean but has changed from the last time we were there. All the restaurants were all clean and made brilliant food. If you go self catering be prepared to spend a lot of money at the supermarkets as they are expensive but overall the entertainment at the hotel was brilliant day and night the staff and the reps of Thomson have done a brilliant job on this hotel. we done a trip to Barcelona and nou camp it was very good we have went before but Thomson give you and hour and a half to get a round it i would say they need an other hour to get around it but do not leave the shop to the last minute as it is very very busy and the staff do not care just throwing the stuff in the bags and are very slow and are more interested in talking than serve you. port adventure was great ques were OK but some were long the staff are a bit arrogant and do not go for some thing to eat as the food is rubbish and is cold. Overall we had a great family Holiday

Went to Golden Avienda in May of this year.

Holiday itself was good however we stayed on the first floor room 116 which was above the bar and overlooking the side road above the entrance.

The bar music was not a problem and finished around 11, the real problem was the locals who so we were informed by residents have street parties every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at around 1am until. 5ish. With 2 children aged 2 and 4 this was a problem as you could hear every word, scream and bad language, even regular police visits did'nt seem to stop it. We were told by staff that we could not be moved.

The hotel itself was clean and pleasant but the room house keeping was not up to much. The children enjoyed the kids discos and clubs which made the holiday for us.

Would not go again due to location and street problems

Second time for the Avenida, enjoyed just as much as last year.

We took our friends with us and met with friends we made there last year ( Way Ay Mark, Vicky & kids) We all had a fantastic week, Super Family Dads especially. They worked hard for those t shirts and towels!!!

Food still excellent, glad to see the sausages are properly cooked this year.

Staff still spot on. Stunned that Anna in the restauraunt, Crazy Chris from the kids club and Sal in the bar remembered us from last year!

Entertainment on par with last year, I thought we were going to be disapointed that Israel has moved to Golden Port but Davide came up trumps.

The kids club was fantastic so my 7 year old says, we only saw her for half the holiday, she was there as often as she possibly could be. Well done crazy Chris and co.

The rush for the sunbeds is no more!! 10.30am whitsun week and still plenty of beds beside the pool. We emailed the hotel before we went to ask for pool views and we were not dissapointed.

All in all, another fantastic super family holiday, ready to book for next year.

The hotel itself isn't in the best of locations, its on the corner of a main road and a dingy side street but once inside, its oustanding. A slight critiscm on arival was that our room was extremely dusty, but this was rectified immediately.

We were unlucky with weather for the first four days but the hotel has an indoor pool and jacuzzi and Thomson run kids zone clubs all day which were great for keeping the kids occupied. Dan and Sam the kids reps were outstanding and really made an effort to include all children, our only critisicm was that we arrived on May 1st but poolside entertainment and activities didn't start until the 2nd week which was different to what we were sold.

The food at the hotel was oustanding, a choice of about five main courses plus roast and fish dish everynight with a seperate kids buffet, in fourteen nights we never ate the same food twice, coming from a catering background, i cannot beleive anyone could criticise the food here, it truly is oustanding

The hotel is on a noisy street. On Friday and Saturday nights sleep is impossible as there is a nightclub and a late bar on the street which Spanish locals frequent until around 4am.

The hotel itself has no sound proofing whatsoever and in our room 2 storeys up we could hear every word said/sang by the entertainers.

The reps insist on playing extremely loud (thudding) pop music by the pool from 11am and will not turn it down when requested to - so you can't even relax/read/have a decent conversation by the pool

Went end of September 2006. Absolutly fab.

Would recommend this hotel to any family looking for somewhere close enough to shops etc, but not to close to the main areas of hustle and bustle.

Rooms lovely and clean, food excellent ( breakfast ) entertainment only what you would expect and really friendly staff.

We loved it so much we are off to this hotel again next week 12/06/07.

Will post a report again when we come back.

We booked this Superfamily hotel through recommendation and were not disappointed. The hotel was very clean, and family friendly. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment which was a lovely size,a nd cleaned every day with fresh towels daily. This was our 3rd visit to Salou, so we knew what to expect. Plenty of places to visit, Port Aventura, Aquopolis, and Barcelona to name but a few.

The Thomson reps worked very hard to keep every one entertained. Krazy Kate and Tall Paul are born entertainers! Also the kids clubs were second to none, the Reps there were brilliant with the kids, and also mingled with the parents when off-duty.

All in all, had a great holiday and would visit this hotel again in the future.

This is the first time we have ever used Thompson Superfamily - we have 3 kids - 5, 3 & 22mts, so having the creche and the tots was great, my little one used the creche most days for 2hrs (15Euros) and loved it, she was very well looked after by the Thompsons girls. My older 2 used the tots about 4 times and had fun, but enjoyed the pool too much to drag them away...!!!

It was funny to watch from our balcony every morning at 9am people running to get their sunbeds!!! We would watch everyone rushing, then my husband would wonder down at around 9.15 and get sunbeds with no problem. Thompson had a sign up saying they would remove unattended towels on sunbeds by 10.15am, but never did!!

The hotel itself was good - kids loved the pool (kids pool) and slope into main pool.

The rooms were ok - need updating - we had a one bedroom appt on the 3rd floor over looking the pool area (emailed hotel to request this), kids had the room (youngest in cot) and we had the sofa bed, which was the most uncomfortble bed I have ever slept on - we both ended up with very bad backs!!!! I think a 2 bed apartment would have been better...it was a bit small for the 5 of us, but ok. It was very noisy at night due to the entertainment going on until 12 at night...then the kids running through the corridor at night!!! Too noisey for my liking!!!

We were self-catering, but used the restaurant for b'fast some mornings which was good, plenty of choice...we also ate in some evenings and again food ok.
The restaurant is only open for b'fast and dinner so for lunch there was the pool bar, but the food choice was very poor, so we mainly used it for drinks and ice-creams and made s'wich for lunch.

The hotel staff are all very good and friendly and all speak good English (however I speak Spainsh, so enjoyed chatting to them all).

The entertainment is mainly done by the Thompson reps, the kids loved them!!!! Adults not sure!!! But they kept the kids happy and that was fine for us...my little boy loved Tall Paul and Krazy Kate!!!!

Salou is a dump!!!! It is dirty, it smells and is full of tacky shops and restaurants selling English food - don't know about anyone else, but when I am on holiday I like to experience the culture of the country I am in....!!!!

The beach was so full that you could not move!!!
Could not relax with 3 kids at the beach in case they got lost....however 10/15 min taxi trip to Cambrils and you are in a different place, clean, alot more Spanish, lovely beach to relax, nice shops to look around - just lovely, I would stay in Cambrils...

I would not go back to the Avenida, because of Salou, if they could pick the hotel up and move it to Cambrils it would be alot better!!!!

Just arrived back home after a great holiday in Salou with a big thankyou to the Golden Avenida who looked after us very well.

After a couple of hours you can tell that this aparthotel is run by very experienced staff as everything seems to run very smoothly.C

lean rooms which slept 2 adults and 2 kids.Staff were always smiling and they all looked like they enjoyed their work.A special mention must go to Boris and the reception team who were a mine of local info and tips and nothing was any bother for them. We booked trips via reception and saved a considerable amount on the Thomson trips that the reps try to sell you at the welcome meeting.

Food is typical 3 star Spanish hotel buffet style but the quality was good and there was a varied selection of casseroles/roast joints etc and plenty of salads and veggie options (the Asian themed evening was especially good)as we pre-booked the half board package with Portland it worked out at £4 per person per day for a hot buffet breakfast (yes the breakfast sausages look dodgy but my kids liked them and had no tummy problems)and evening meal which really was a bargain ,so we were never miffed if we missed a meal because of us sightseeing or at the theme/water parks.

I can't really comment on the quality of the evening entertainment as we as a family enjoyed never used the hotel bars at night as we prefer to stroll and explore Salou's many bars and the Portaventura Theme park.

The pool area is spacious and contrary to reports had no problem with sunbeds and the Thomson team kept my two boys 9,12 happy with various activities.I would suggest if you are going to this hotel to e mail ahead and ask for a pool view room because if not you could overlook a busy and noisy street or worse still the skips that house the hotel kitchen waste !

Salou reminds me in many places like Benidorm without the high rise .My plus points for Salou are ..

1/ It's an hour from Barcelona ,You must have a day exploring this great city and if you are a footie fan make sure you try to go to a game and tour the ground ..we saw Barca V Espanyol which was an amazing experience and all booked via hotel reception

2/ Visit Portaventura theme park but pay extra for the fastrack passes you will save hours moving to the front instead of waiting in line

3/ Visit Cambrills ..a lovely old spanish village next to Salou with lots of quaint alleways and tapas bars

4/ Go to Aquapolis water park but avoid Caribe, rides and organisation much better at Aquapolis (and you can buy

5/Nice seafront with lots of clean quality bars ..try the cocktails at Lunatyk !

Minus points for me were of the usual Spanish problems:

1/ Very poorly maintained and darkly lit footpaths with dangerous holes everywhere and the locals allow their dogs to poo on them everywhere.

2/ Can be very smelly at times as there are lots of overflowing rubbish skips and if full the garbage is just slung in bags in the gutter next to the skips ..not a pretty sight or smell

Overall I enjoyed The Costa Dorada and the Golden Avenida in Salou and would return.

Food was ok but a bit boring after a while. They can't cook a decent sausage.

Rooms cleaned Ok as long as you didn't look under the beds.

The sun-bed stampede that everyone comments on really was farcical. We never took part in it but had no problem getting sun beds in decent locations.
Despite Thomson’s claims we never saw them removing towels from sun-beds.

All hotel staff excellent from reception to bar to dining-room. Responded to problems well (broken bed and flickering light bulb changed immediately).

The beds in the rooms are not as described in the brochure but staff showed no sympathy.

They sell trips without warning you that some attractions close in bad weather (would you believe water parks???), and they don't keep promises when handling complaints.

If you want to go to Nou Camp Barcelona, best arrange it yourself - the Thomson trip allowed one and a half hours there but you need a good hour or two more than that.

Entertainment was generally OK - i.e. dodgy tribute bands and generally very childish, but it's a holiday hotel after all, not Las Vegas or a Knebworth concert, but DO NOT go to the Sunday night reps show. Absolutely awful, the worst bit being when they tell you afterwards how hard they all worked and how wonderful it was and demand applause.

Tall Paul great fun. Kate did go on a bit but not as bad as some have said. David (the hotels entertainment guy,) was a bit of a laugh and according to the wife has a nice bum.

Children ages 5 & 7 We stayed at this hotel and we thought it was great the kids really enjoyed themselves especially the entertainment with the reps (which it was all about, they're happy were happy)

Hotel staff and the food were excellent

We had a pool side view at the far end away from the pool itself ~ brilliant

Location a bit away from the beach, but you get to see all the shops etc while you walk to it

All in all I think it's what you make of things yourself
We went to Port Aventura Brilliant had a 7 days pass but felt you had to go nearly every day to get the full value would be better if they give you the tickets and you could pick when you go over the fortnight (ticket days start the first time you went)

As didn't manage to go to every where we wanted to
Water Park at La Pineda was great, thought it better than the Caribe at Port Aventura

Stopped on the first floor on the road side what a nightmare! When you finally get to sleep listening to the rubbish entertainment you got woken up every night from people coming back from the pubs and clubs from 2am to 5am came home after a fortnight needing a holiday. The street alongside the hotel sunk of urine the bins where overflowing.

Night time entertainment was awful most of the kids knew the dance moves better than the kid’s zone reps.

On the plus side the reception staff where fantastic if you need to know anything ask reception rather than the reps

This was our 3rd year at the Avenida.

All rooms in the hotel have a kitchenette whether you are half board or self catering. We have been self catering and half board in the past, but by far the best option is to go self catering and buy some meal tickets from the hotel itself. This gives you the flexibility to eat out if you want to or to eat in the convenience of the hotel.

It also works out slightly cheaper to buy your meals there rather than booking half board. 6 days at half board costs 80 Euros (approx £55) for adults and kids are half price. The meals can be taken at any point through the holiday and you don't have to have both breakfast and dinner on the same day.

The hotel also hires out Thomson beach towels for a 10 Euro deposit each and these can be exchanged for clean ones throughout your stay.

The hotel is around a 15 minute walk to the beach (which is vastly over-crowded) and is within walking distance of Port Aventura (around 30-40 minutes) although you can get a taxi. There is a supermarket on site but it doesn't stay open that late so you need to know where other supermarkets are.

Most of the hotel staff were very friendly and many of them recognised us from previous years. The kids club was excellent - by the end of the holiday my kids were going twice a day (their choice).

What can I say about the entertainment! in one word - diabolical!

The daytime entertainment was also diabolical. A couple of days into the holiday the Thomson staff were told they couldn't use the outdoor speaker system for health & safety as it was plugged in rather than battery powered.

The solution the entertainment team came up with was ludicrous - they pulled out an internal speaker from the bar onto the terrace and did entertaiment from there. Not only was it not loud enough, but to change a record someone had to go through three tightly packed rows of sunbeds and up a few steps in between into the bar and onto the stage. Very safe. So if it's entertainment you're looking for don't choose this hotel.

Nice clean hotel, towels changed everyday, bedding every 3 days.

Hotel reception staff excellent, very very helpful, and always available to help you.Pool excellent for children of all ages. Were self catering, but purchased 4 evening meals in the restaurant which were all very nice, with a good choice.

Usual problem as with all Spanish hotels is the lack of fresh hot vegatables, but excellent salad bar made up for this.

The sunbed rush is something to be seen, with many future olympic hurdlers clearly in training as they dashed and leapt to get there spot. The hired entertainers who I saw at the 10.00pm slot were okay, but the rest of the evening entertainment left a lot to be desired with the same tracks played over and over again, and at a very loud volume, so loud that it was a relief to get out onto the terrace even though it was very warm.

We had a road side room and were regularly woken up between 4 and 5 am by the nightclubbers making there way home, singing, chanting, swearing and running over the top of parked vehicles.

Salou itself was absolutely packed and the constant harrassment from pub and club touts became very wearing, and the state of the roads and pavements in the mornings were a disgrace, with empty bottles, fast food packaging and vomit everywhere.

Both Port Aventura theme park and water park are well worth a visit, and were enjoyed by all, but beware you will be charged 4 euros for each sunbed at the water park on top of your admission fee.

Weather excellent.

Sorry to say will not be returning as Salou is simply far too busy and not our cup of tea.

I stayed at the Golden Avenida for a fortnight from 12-26 July 2006, with my wife and 5 year old daughter.
I had heard mixed reviews regarding the resort, but being open minded and having a 5 year old, wanted a holiday with a mixture of activity. Therefore we chose this Hotel in Salou, with a view to travelling around and visiting Port Aventura.

I can honestly say I have never done so much exercise! You have to be in the 'sunbed' queue for 8:00am (doors open at 9:00am), if you want to ensure a visible position around the pool, where you can see your children. Get ready for the stampede, people are literally jumping from their balconies to queue jump.Be equipped - good trainers, and a martial arts background would be of an advantage, oh and of course, look good you'll be on video, from all the spectators on the balconies.

We hired a car during our stay, which got vandalised twice, in the surrounding streets of the hotel, so we ended up paying 10 euros per evening to park in the hotel. Ensure you book the extra car insurance in the resort, if you have booked your car in the UK!
We went on the train to Barcelona, as I thought the Barcelona excursion was quite expensive and the return train fare is only 10 euros, enabling you to stay all day - beware of pickpockets. I put my money in my shoe! Also, beware of the high prices on La Ramblas.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Tots Club and Super Discos supervised by the Thompson Reps. Credit to these guys they kept the kids entertained.

Like many others I had being on the internet before my hols and read constantly about 'Israel'. How disappointed I was when non of the evening entertainment seemed to live up to the reports I had previously read.

I never once saw the pool being cleaned whilst we were there, and needless to say my daughter has come home with severe impetigo!

The food in the restaraunt was quite good, with a good variety of meats, salads, and a delightful desert choice.

All the reception staff were most helpful, and my daughter loved her daily chats with Anna in the restaraunt.

The self catering apts are basic but have the usual 4 ring hob, kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge. The air con is a bonus but is better in the bedroom.

On the second day after visiting the beach we spilt some sand from a bucket, we were in a hurry to go to a park and left it. When we returned that evening the cleaners had been in but the sand was still there, some on the bench and some on the floor, out of curiosity we left it and until the minute we left after 14 nights it was still there. Also after about 8 days we had to request clean bedding as it had not been changed, maybe this was our fault for making the beds in the mornings???

Located about 20 min walk from Salou beach(taking account kids and pushchair)I wasn't so bothered about the walk however the street we had to walk down at the side of the hotel was usually stinking of puke and/or urine and always the often overflowing bins. Add all this to scattered piles of dog muck the odd broken bottle and kebab wrapper and it makes for a nice morning stroll down to the beach or the main street where most or the bars and restaurants are located. On a night if you have been on the main street you will walk past lots of P.R. staff from bars who aren't too much trouble but with a number of club on the street I did not like walking with my kids.

Hotel staff were helpful and friendly.

Entertainment was reasonable but better when outside performers were on, but not enough to keep you going for a fortnight if you like to stay in the hotel which I must admit is not what I normally do anyway.

Just back from Avenida aparthotel and overall we all did enjoy the holiday. Kids enjoyed the food with good selection, except the youngest who is fussy and would only really eat the food he recognised ie chips, bananas and rolls.

The puddings are great and plenty of fresh fruit.

Hotel itself is lovely and clean towels each day was appreciated. We had plenty of space in our room with the kids having their own wardrobe in the livingroom. Normally as a family of 5 you are crammed into rooms, but not so on this occasion.

Hotel reception staff the most helpful and to be honest I used them the most to make enquiries.

Entertainment in the hotel - dire. On two seperate nights though there was acrobatic shows it was fairly good but once you've seen it in portaventura it pales into significance.

Reps show - wouldn't waste my time seeing again. Crazy Kate and Tall paul were seen the most but how many times did it need mentioned that crazy kate could pick and choose where she goes, because she is in the top 6 thomson entertainment reps!

This was our 3rd year at the Avenida and what a change. The first year Thomson were not the only holiday company in the hotel. But last year they were given the whole hotel. It's meant to be a Superfamily hotel. But how does it feel for an older couple no children to arrive at the hotel and find it over run with kids. Also allowing teenagers to go to the hotel and wake up their corridors at 5am when they stagger in from the clubs.

The hotel is a lovely hotel which is very clean. The reception staff are there at all times and are very helpful for local advice such as shopping, phoning taxi's for you and telling you easy ways to get places as well as dealing with any problems in your apartment, selling you stamps, dealing with towel hire and also your safe keys. You could not ask for better reception staff.

The restaurant has the lovely Ana and her staff to serve you. The food is buffet style. They often have theme nights where you get authentic food which personally I think is better than the usual food as it's a bit too British for my liking. The breakfasts, is full English, continental, cereals and fruit and yoghurts. Evening meals cannot be complete without sampling the Avenida chef's variety of puddings. Take adjustable waistbands as the puddings are to die for. The children have their own buffet at their level but parental support is needed. There's not many cooked vegetables and what there are isn't off great quality but their salad bar is plentiful and very tasty. We could only get self catering this year but bought our half board for 288€ which was cheaper than Thomson charged for us all if we had bought in the travel agents.

The apartments are lovely. This was our first year having a pool view and we regretted it. It's too noisy during the day and noisy until late at night by thoughtless loud guests. The roadside with rooms numbered 21-25 seems to be the best place to be. The rooms were cleaned every day and we had clean towels every day too. There are small washing lines on each balcony but towels are not to be hung over the railings of the balcony. There is a fridge and Microwave and hob. We used the fridge the most.

The pool is a great pool. The sunbed rush is ridiculous still. We went down for breakfast one morning at 8.30am and found a huge queue waiting. One morning I stood on our balcony and watched it killing myself laughing at the people running to ensure they got their spot! Thomson do remove the towels if they beds are left unattended.

The entertainment was dire. The previous 2 years we were spoiled by fantastic entertainment of a Thomson Disco, then bingo, then a Thomson spot then a mini disco with some great dances followed by a fabulous show which the hotel organised. This year we had a kids disco, then Thomson reps attempting to do some load of rubbish. We had bingo a few nights and a couple of shows. We spent most of our time out on the terrace with the kids playing happily with us. The 4.30pm activity was a quiz every day. There's only so many quizzes you can handle when they are doing every day and most nights. The nights we went out we much preferred the park or other bars where the children were welcome. But usually the hotel was packed but this year the bar was very quiet.

The Kids Club Reps were fantastic as usual and a great big hug and thanks go to Chris and his team for taking care of our children to the highest of expectations. The presigning which I had read about before we went stopped the day we arrived. But the usual fantastic standard was offered in the clubs and that was one part which the children really enjoyed.

We would probably return to this hotel when Golden operate it privately during the winter months and not when Thomson are there!

A great Family hotel if you like constant NOISE NOISE NOISE.
We are a family of four who like fun and giggles but the constant Boom Boom Boom of this hotel gave us all headaches.
Watch out for Thomson entertainer Tall Paul-I swear he gave me Tinnitus!!!

Never slept for 12 days even with cotton wool and knickers on my head!!! Music stops at midnight but then everyone and their rowdy kids sit outside shouting and swearing till 2am. Then at 4am a local nightclub kicks out. We are not prudes believe me but the noise almost spoilt our holiday-would have moved hotel if we could have.

On the upside if you are deaf and dont mind your kids running round a six foot deep pool while you get drunk by the bar then this hotel is great! Food is fantastic, kids clubs are fun and entertaining. Location is good and central. You may even be lucky like us and win an extra 2 suitcases on the bingo to bring home. Happy hour is HAPPY, 2-4-1 on most drinks.

Rooms are fairly large and everything is there that you need. Not sure what the maid did but they are very friendly! Staff are helpful and courteous. Weather was great, so even though I came back deafer and overloaded with suitcases I got a Great Tan.
A GREAT HOLIDAY!!!

This was the first time for us to stay in a Thompson Superfamily hotel and would definatly go again!
The hotel was spotlessly clean, sheets and all towels changed every day (we stayed for 14 days).

All staff helpfull and friendly however when our daughter fell outside the hotel and hurt herself there was no first aider, they gave us an ice pack.

The pool area was cleaned reguarly but the pool is extremly cold.(no inflatables allowed).

The food was very nice and hot but for breakfast the sausages would have been nicer cooked!

The first week we stayed we had no problem with sunbeds however by the second (Whitsun) it was amusing to watch the queues building and the 9am race as soon as the doors opened onto the pool area.

The entertainment for the kids was excellent and although all the kids club reps were fab there was a problem by the end of the fortnight with not enough places in the kids club, given that only families come here this needs to be addressed if they dont want angry 6 year olds as my daughter was after being turned away on our last day.
Kate, Tall Paul and the infamous Israel are fantastic with adults and kids, the best reps of any hotel we have ever stayed in (and there have been a few). The first time you see Israel will stay with you forever, very funny man!

The excursions are very expensive, Very disappointed with the illusion night, a lot of money for what it was built up to be in the welcome meeting, would not recomend it as too many people alowed in to a very small cave, chicken & chips in a basket and warm beer in a tall flask type container on the bench table.

Aquapolis aquapark however was excellent.

We had a wonderful holiday and will go back again, probably back to the Avienda.

Having had two previous Thomson Superfamily holidays before (which were fantastic), we read up on this hotel and thought it would be great.

We did have a good holiday overall and had no major problems with the hotel, but I won't be holidaying with Thomson again.

The hotel - kept clean, with security 24 hours, the reception staff were all efficient and friendly and the bar staff were all really nice. There were a few sour faced waitresses in the resataurant, but a couple of them were friendly enough. The food is nothing to write home about - mostly all the same colour, covered in salt and very predictable. Happy hour in the bar is great - less than 4 euros for 4 glasses of wine, so no complaints there! The best part of the holiday was Israel (the entertainer). All the kids and adults loved his bingo and mini disco. He's the only reason we'd consider returning but, unfortunately, he was moved on to another hotel at the end of our stay, so no incentive to go back.

Thomson - where do I start??
1) Told to go to the wrong coach by our rep upon arrival at Reus airport.
2) Diabolical "What's on Welcome" - the rep didn't have a clue.
3) Too few places at Kids' club, which left a lot of children upset at being left out. Nobody bothered to get in extra staff to cover the staff-child ratios despite it being half-term. Pre-signing has now started, but there'll still be a lot of children who can't go.
4) Awful Thomson evening entertainment - the Kidzone reps didn't know the moves to the dances and on one occasion, Israel had to get on the stage to show them.
5) Children invited to have their photo taken in the bar with Thomson the dog (which turned out to be a cardboard cut-out...enough said).
6) Useless reps on departure. Neither of them would tell us which coach was for who and one even sent a coach off when one member of a family was still waiting to get on.
7) Got half way to the airport, only for the coach driver to turn back and collect another family from one of the Port Aventura hotels.

A lot of moans about Thomson, but all in all a good holiday. The hotel was okay, but as I said before, the entertainment would have been rubbish without Israel. Thomson were useless and I would never again recommend anyone travel with them.

Although we booked self catering we paid at the hotel for 6 breakfasts and 5 dinners which are on buffet style basis. This was good value for money worked out about £10 a day each. Choice was good roughly 5 meat dishes, plenty of salad choices and good seafood displays on alternate days.

Maid service and towel change every day.

We had a roadside room but it was on the quiet street- side not on the busier side and had no problem with noise.

The location was good, not right in the centre only 10 minutes from the main drag and 15mins slow amble to the main beach.

We would recommend this Thompson super family hotel as it was really geared up for kids (indoor pool for colder days).

Staff helpful and most of the reception staff were English. Always seemed to be holiday reps on site during office hours.

We stayed in the Avenida Park it was a lovely hotel and the reception staff were great. Still a problem with the sun beds even though Thomsons were suppost to be monitoring this as we all got letters it took 3 days for me to get a sun bed had to make do with 2 chairs not very comfortable.

The entertainment staff Israel, Alison and Gemma were good with the kids so I will be recommeding this to my friends with kids.

The entertainment was a bit lame though the reps are left to provide this on there own done a good job though.

I would definately visit this hotel again.

Travelled here in July, and was impressed by the quick check-in at the hotel.

Standard of rooms seemed to vary, ours was a tad shabby (holes in the blankets, cig burns in the chair). Maid service was quite good however and towels changed daily if required.

Hotel food was not as we expected after reading the reviews before we went on holiday. We were half board - breakfast was o.k with a large choice for both us and the kids, but the dinner was a bit of a let down. The kids (who granted can be fussy, but I feel are a fairly normal age 7 and 4) were completely sick of chips by the end of a fortnight. I unfortunately got food poisoning and spent four days in the room (two doctors visits) and then one day in hospital on a drip and antibiotics.

Choice of food in the evening was repetitive and not kept warm enough on the hotplates.

Getting a sunbed was great entertainment, and some people looked like they had trained for it like an Olympic event.

Evening entertainment was very good for the kids and they particularly loved Israel who was excellent.

Staff were friendly, but I don't think we would visit this hotel again.

Nearly forgot, case was completely trashed when arriving at Reus Airport and left open - make sure you secure your cases as baggage handlers not very careful.

Weather very good. Hope this helps.

We had never stayed in an aparthotel before and were extremely happy with the facilities of the hotel and the space and freedom of an apartment.

I would just like to add that the sunbed problem is being dealt with by Thomson reps in circulating warning letters to rooms, apparently issuing warnings at breakfast and physically removing 'reserved' towels after 30 mins. Great news especially after watching the 9:00am rush from our room (was like a very fast walking competition - very entertaining!). Once you have your sunbed, the hotel offer sunbed pads for 2 euros a day.

Israel the hotel entertainer was absolutely brilliant and I looked forward to his Aqua Gym/Aerobics every morning.

Also the hotel supermarket is excellent but it would be helpful if opening hours could be extended (9:00-3:00 Tuesday-Saturday and 9:00-12:00 Sunday). There's also an excellent Spar on the way to the smaller beach if you manage to find it.

When we arrived I was imediately impressed by the marble floors and the cleanines of the reception area. This continued all the way through the hotel with immaculate rooms with maid service every day, the entertainment lounge/bar downstairs was very large and also clean and tidy with very friendly bar staff.

Thomson reps were great fun and our kids loved the shows and the dances that the reps had them doing every night Israel the hotels entertainer was a great comedy act and kept everyone entntertained.

My family and I were self catering but chose to eat in the hotels restaurant a couple of times it was very clean with plenty of choice and tasty meals all around we wish we had gone half board.

Just returned from this lovely hotel with my family. There is nothing I could fault about this hotel. All the staff were very nice and the childrens reps done a great job, worked hard all day entertaining everybody.

I found the entertainment in the evening geared more for the children than the adults though. The rooms were very spacious and cleaned everyday. The food was very good and catered for the fussiest of eaters.

The theme park was not too overcrowded but it was early in the season. If you are thinking of going there this summer I would recommend you book your tickets in the U.K there is a good offer on 14days for the price of 3 then you can go as often as you like.

We would definately come back to this hotel again.

I've just returned 4 days ago from the most incredible holiday.
Only one day was overcast but we all found things to do especially as it wasn't raining.

The apartment was extremely clean and the maids were most helpful and understood your every need. Clean towels were provided when you asked and they cleaned the room from top to bottom every day.

Room had a view onto the balcony with facilities to hang your wet clothes.
Entertainment was brilliant, especially Israel who works for the hotel itself - very nice man and excellent with kids. My niece who is 2 loved learning the dances at his Junior Disco.

Food was fantastic but beware, all diets go out of the window when you see the huge selection of food to choose from.
The Reps knew exactly what they were talking about and arranged your transport to the various parks.
Bar was excellent less than £1.50 for a pint - and happy hour 8-9 on Cocktails - all the waiters were fantastic and enjoyed a laugh.

All round excellent holiday and already looking at booking another - be warned the hotel is booked up almost a year in advance.

We booked this hotel after reading the reviews on this site & we were not disappointed it is an excellent hotel with clean spacious rooms, friendly staff & plenty of reps both thomson & the hotels.

The hotel is a good choice for families it has 3 kids clubs with plenty of activities, kids play area, big swimming pool with lifeguards & an indoor pool.

The evening entertainment was quite good & also had a mini disco for the little ones.

The hotels location is a bit out of the way which is not a problem as it is 10-15 minute walk to the beach, 10 minutes walk to the shops & bars & if you are feeling fit 20-30 minute walk to Port Aventura theme park.

I would definitely return to Salou & the Avenida.

Hi hotel itself was very nice, staff were very friendly, hotel location is very good, only short walk to town.

The entertainment was good although tompsons could have done more it seemeed to be left to the hotel staff to organise things. The only downside to the holiday was the pool!!!!!!

I came away feeling more stressed than when we went WHY? because you have to set your alarm every morning to try to get a sunbed, if you have a lie in dont bother going to the pool, because you wont get a bed. Typical Brits. This has to stop because its not fair on families who struggle to get up early, appart from that its a good hotel.

I stayed at the hotel Golden Avenida park in the popular resort of Salou. When i arrived at the hotel i thought that it seemed a tidy and pleasan tplace to spend my holiday in .And i was very right. The food was wonderfull, served in buffet style which ment yo could go back and get as many plate fulls you could eat. There was a different selection everyday and a also a buffet for the kids and a wide selection of desserts ,when ti came to entertainment there was lots for children but perhaps not as much for the adults, but this was not a problem as the bar was open every night and happy hour took place from 8-9 where you could get 2 drinks for the price of1!. The waiters at the bar where reliable and friendly and often brougth your drinks over to your table which you where sitting at. There was also a few very sexy waiters.......Marius ,Julien!!!!!! shame julien wasnt single though....The hotel was very clean and there was always amids round to your room every day to change bed linen and so on. Their is also a little shop down near the reception which sells foods and toiletries which is ideal for those who dont want to walk out to the shops to buy these things. The hotel is very safe and secure as their is always a security guard on duty. I would say the golden Avenida park hotel is a brilliant hotel and would reccomend it to anyone travelling to Salou.

This was the second time my family had stayed in this hotel. It has to be one of the best hotels our family have been to.

Our 2 bed apartment was very spacious and was cleaned virtually every day.

Many of the staff were the same as when we travelled 2 years ago and are very friendly.

Entertainment throughout the day was excellent and evening entertainment was varied with several professional shows throughout the week. A couple of rep shows a week, which personally I am never particuarly keen on. Israel who works for the hotel rather than for Thomsons, was an excellent entertainer.

There were not that many bars in Salou itself which provided entertainment suitable for all my children, so we tended to stay at the hotel which they were more than happy with.

With 2 footie mad sons the pitch kept them occupied for ages.

2 excellent swimming pools,no faults at all.

Although we stayed on a self catering basis we did eat in the restaurant several times and the food was great.

Only negative thing I can say about the holiday is the fact we had to set our alarm every morning in order to get up and queue for the sun beds.

I have only just returned from this hotel and it was great! The food and staff etc were brilliant. I don’t think I have had a better holiday yet! Me and my friends will definitely be returning back there next year and have already booked it!

It is very close to the beach, shops and theme park! The entertainment at night is great for kids and there is always something for the adults to do as the bar stays open until 2 in the morning every day.

I would highly recommend this to anyone who was thinking of going to Salou to pick the Golden Avenida Park hotel.

It’s one of the best hotel's there.

Got back on the 28th of august and it was the best holiday i have ever had. The hotel was great! Me and my boyfriend had loads to do, the night life in the area is fairly good and the actual entertainment in the hotel was brilliant. I particulary found Matt the Anamacion (entertainer) fantastic, but all of the thompson reps were great too! The buffet for 12 euros at night was brilliant, but there are also loads of great resturaunts near by and some reely nice bars and clubs. Watch out though for the "stampede" to get to the sunloungers in the morning about 9 am. It is a bit crazy!!
hotel staff were wonderful and theres plenty to do for the kids, nearly a different show every night downstairs in the bar area!! i would recommend entering miss avenida gold if any of u ladies get the chance!! its a right laugh!!
Overall a great place, i will be visiting again soon hopefully. I miss it already!

just returned back from a all right holiday. Hotel is lovely and spotless clean, reception staff very very polite and helpful and very good english. Good choice of food and not repetitive which made a good change. Hotel location excellent for ease to get to port aventura and costa caribe, rooms cleaned daily with clean towels daily really spotless. Entertainment excellent for children but not very good for adults, evening entertainment totally repetetive and the kids disco same songs every night thomson reps really helpful and the kids reps out of this world be prepared to queue for a sunbed, doors do not open until 9.00am but be prepared to have a major dash because as soon as the doors open everyone just pushes past you .

This hotel is the best we have ever stayed in, staff all spoke perfect English, the food is different every night and replaced as soon as trays get empty.
The pool is large and has a life guard on hand.
No inflatables are allowed in pool.
The maids clean every day.
The kids zone club is great.

Just returned from this super Hotel.
All staff were very friendly and spoke super English.

Snack bar by pool had a very limited menu, and on occasions the staff would insist that drinks were delivered to your table/sunloungers even when you ordered at the bar, not very good for my thirst levels.

I have to say that the kids really enjoyed the kids clubs and pool - they also enjoyed the daytime events put on by the Hotel Ents team. Evening ents were a little limited though - and views of the stage were often obscured by pillars.

I'm not sure about the system for getting a sunlounger - queueing up from 8.30 for the doors to be opened at 9.00 got a little boring.

Also, be careful - the Hotel supermarket closes at 15.00, but it is fairly well stocked, except for fruit and newspapers.

Accommodation was excellent - first impressions were amazing - the reception was very impressive with all marble floors etc - very clean and tidy always.

The staff in reception and the bar couldn't do enough for you.

The pool was great - a small pool for children and a large pool for all - very clean.

The rooms were well equipped and perfect for a family with children - a hob, fridge, kettle, toaster and plates, cutlery, pots and pans - all provided even if you were half board.

Room service was daily and fresh towels daily too - sheets changed regularly. Did have a balcony overlooking the road which did get quite noisy though - recommend you ask for the Pool View. Did wish the balcony was more enclosed for a toddler - couldn't relax at all.

Entertainment - didn't really take full advantage of the entertainment but there was something on every night and even during the afternoons - they really know how to look after you.

Food - the staff in the restaurant were very helpful - and the choice was excellent - breakfast was the same everyday, the menu changed daily for evening meals and they did have some theme nights - it was a good opportunity to try something new and - if you didn't like it you could go back for something else - in short there was something for everyone.

Location - was a ten minute walk to the beach and it is all flat level - no steep hills etc.
Reps - Very energetic but wasn't impressed when my sister got her purse stolen - they directed us to the Police Station right over the end of town. They did not offer to come with us or give any advice. When we got there some tourists had their First Choice Rep with them.

Would definitely go to a Golden Hotel again but was not impressed with the resort itself.
Did go in 2005 but wasn't given the option to select it.

The Hotel Avenida Park was ideal for a family holiday, not too big, not too small!! We were self catering and did not use the hotel's restaurant. There were plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Ok if you like anything with chips!! We also ate in quite alot.

The pool was safe and clean, the aqua aerobics were fun and daytime games were entertaining. Alison, Gemma and Israel spend a huge amount of time and energy keeping holiday makers happy.

The evening entertainment was varied, the children's disco kept them happy every night, my 2yr old thoroughly enjoyed trying to learn the steps to the dances. Again, Alison, Gemma and Israel kept everyone entertained until the guest act came on at 10pm.

I would say my only complaint was that our room was on the first floor, straight above the bar, every night when the entertainment had finished, the cleaners spent over an hour moving the furniture to clean the floor, this was VERY noisy and kept us awake every night. It then started again quite early in the morning.

Also the maid service in the room was not fantastic, we don't think they used a sweeping brush or mop at all in our room.

Putting our complaints aside, the hotel was fantistic but most of this was credit to Alison, Gemma and Israel.

We arrived to a very overcast day. The Thomson reps were waiting for us and sent us to the correct bus. A 20 minute drive from the Airport we arrived at Avenida Park.

The check in was very quick and we were in our apartment within 10 minutes of being dropped off. No matter if you are self catering or half board you get a full equiped apartment. We had a one bedroomed apartment and our only complaint was the cot being right in the middle of the living area but there was plenty room in the bedroom so we moved it there. The bed under the sofa was hard to move so we only used it twice. (ROOM121)

The apartment was clean and it was a roadside but there were no pool views left. We were on the roadside where the bus drops you off and we heard very little noise although we realised that the bedroom patio doors didn't seem to be as sound proof as the living room one, it wasn't as unbearable as friends who had a room on the other roadside and they couldn't sleep. The balcony's had nice little drying ropes which were handy. There was one problem we encountered and that was only have one key and the key having the electicity key to the apartment on it so one of us had to stay awake at all times until the others had arrived.

The food in the restaurant was delicious varied every night with 2 themed nights on the reps nights off. Entertainment was shared by the hotel and the thomson reps.
