| said: when we arrived the hotel receptoin staff were very freindly and helpfull and showed us were to go as the calypso is fairly large.the colours in the coridoors are a bit lively, there was a bottle of bubbley on ice when we arrived [which went down well after a 4 hour delay]our room was cleaned every day by some of the most plesent maids weve ever had and was reasonably spacious as we didnt have to use the sofa bed, the night club wasnt noisy a low background noise at best but the hotel walls are a little thin and you can hear all that goes on in the next rooms we were lucky to be between some elderly couples i wouldnt like to be there in high season.the food was the worst weve had in a long time not a lot of choice and very similar every day.hotel location is just out of the way of the main road and about 10 minuites to the smaller beech not the main one.cant comment on the entertainment as we went out every night,i would visit the hotel again but would choose room only and eat at fordies bar or one of the other plentyfull cheep places to eat.

breakfast was continental, with quite a bit of choice.
didn't see any entertainment, but it was all geared to the spanish seniors.
a word of warning, if you are there for a saturday night, make sure you have ear plugs! the nightclub in front of block 2 has a disco on till 6am, so you will need them!

| said: We had flown to Reus airport which meant that our transfer to the Calypso hotel was only about 25min.
We arrived at the Calypso and were pleased with what we saw.
The hotel was clean and staff very helpful. Hotel maids were always on the go. We were very glad of the room air conditioning.
We had read a couple of bad comments about the Calypso, but I can truthfully tell you right now, all five of us had a wonderful 1 week stay, wishing it was more, what you do read about, is some people being very picky.
Food at this hotel was a good variety which was changed each day The hotel had 2 reps with the usual informative things(more expensive)to do, as every hotel does.
The hotel is in the perfect place as it is away from all the hustle and bustle, with only a pleasant 10 min walk to the shops, restaurants and beach.
The hotel entertainment was very good, with different themes every night. I would visit this hotel again.

A few of the entertainment are leaving this year and I will really miss them. Iria and Carlos have made each of our visits really special.
I still think we will return to this hotel next year because it is a great family holiday and the entertainment it brilliant.
I recommend it to all families who want a fun holiday.

That said, what a great time my family had there. The facilities and pool etc are fabulous. The drinks and bar meals are the cheapest in the resort. The staff are really good, hardworking and friendly, and this made the holiday really enjoyable. The entertainment team worked tirelessly and put on some excellent shows. This is probably the best holiday I can remember going on and my kids are pestering me to book Calypso again next year.

| said: Recently returned from Salou, this hotel is good. We stayed in the Thomson block which has the funkiest looking colours in the corridors (purple, orange) Aside from that the rooms were clean, plenty of fresh towels every day, welcome bottle of wine which was a nice touch. The food was great every day, plenty to choose from and the dining room staff are just so lovely even though they seem to be there all day/night and work so hard. The entire staff are very hard working and the entertainments team are just brilliant, they had us howling with laughter on the Grease night.
Pool is great, constantly monitored by a lifeguard.
All in all a very good hotel, the holiday was cheap considering there was ten of us, i definately do think that they need to consider changing the decor in the Thomson block though. If you want luxury this is not the place for you, if however you just want somewhere to chill out with the kids for a week without having to take out a second mortgage then this is the place for you.

The animation team keep the kids (and the big kids) occupied all day and night. We spent every second night at the hotel opting to visit Port Adventura on the alternative nights but would have been happy to spend more time there.
Our room was in the main block overlooking the pool. It was very clean and comfortable, although we did only sleep in it!
Restaurant food was great, lots to choose from. My daughter is fussy but always managed to find something she liked. We also visited the Al fresco twice and thoroughly enjoyed this too.
Already planning to go back next year!

| said: Our second visit to this hotel and it was even better than the first.
Flew in to Reus this time rather than Barcelona and the transfer was so much easier!
Reception staff were really friendly and helpful from the moment we entred the hotel.
We stayed in the new block and it was spotlessly clean. Heard a few people complaining about the 'Thomson' block. I don't understand why this block isn't given a facelift as it seems to be letting down a fantastic hotel.
Our first visit in October was made so special by the Med playa team and we were over the moon to find out the majority of the team were still there. They work so hard and are so friendly. I don't have a bad word to say about any of them. A few of the team remembered us from last time and the kids thought this was great. We love Iria and Carlos and they have talked us in to going back again in September!
I enjoyed the food and thought there was plenty of choice. My mum came this time and is very fussy and she chose to eat out, but admits that they can't please everyone.
We thought the entertainment was great day and night, so much to get involved in. Although I was yet again robbed of the Miss Calypso title.
I definitely recommend this hotel to families; the kids are made to feel so much part of everything.
This is the first hotel that I have wanted to return to again and again.
Here's too many more happy holidays! Even my mum wants to go back……and might take my dad!

Directed to "thomson block" when you go up in the lift you exit to purple carpets and multi coloured walls very butlins style room clean and maintained.
Spanish school kids on vacation left to run wild until early hours variety of foods although would have enjoyed it hot.
Daytime entertainment very good nightime very Spanish focused. My advice is go to hte hotel but do not book via Thomson book through the hotel direct to be situated in the main hotel building rooms very nice. Do not end up in a lookalike butlins chalet.

| said: We arrived mid morning on 9th Feb. Checking in couldn't have been easier, and staff in reception were very friendly and welcoming.
We booked 2 rooms but only 1 was ready, so we put all luggage in tat room for the time being. We were given our wristbands straight away so we could use the bar and dining room. The rooms were a decent size and ours overlooked the pool and kiddies play park.
The pool was closed but as it wasn't warm enough to use it so it didn't really matter.
The dining room was one of the biggest i've seen so no problem getting tables, and the staff were first class. The food wasn't the best I've had but you couldn't really fault it, as there was always something you could have.
There was a bottle of wine on each table at lunch and dinner, either a rose, red or white, but you could always change it from another table if you wished.
As there wern't many of us british there, you had a menu sheet for each person for each day, and you filled it in and gave it to a waiter on arrival at the dining room at breakfast. There were 4 menus and you ticked off what you wanted, and they cooked it fresh and brought it to your table, complete with H.P. sauce. There was a very good choice.
The bar was quite big and there was always a friendly face to serve you. The beer pumps said San Miguel, but i'm positive it wasn't but it was ok. During the day if you we're feeling a bit peckish, the bar supplied an unlimited amount of whole pizzas, which were excellent, as well as sandwiches nuts, and crisps etc.
There were around 30 televisions dotted around the bar, so you could choose a channel of your choice, we watched sky news, most of the time.
The rooms were cleaned to a high standard every morning, and there was always clean towels and bedding
The entertainment wasn't really up to much, but it catered for the spanish pensioners really, but we went out quite a bit so it wasn't really a problem.
There was entertainment during the day including bowling (which one of our party won), bingo, darts etc, but we were outnumbered by the spanish once again so we didn't take part much.
The hotel seems a little out of the way, but becauseof the time of year, most of the surrounding hotels ,bars etc were closed, and some just opened at night or at the weekend. I managed to find a bar 10 mins away, (The Shamrock) that had all the football on, and served a good pint of Tetleys, as well as some good food. Unfortunatley Mnchester Citys result gave me indigestion.
There is a nice secluded beach about 10-15 mins walk away, but there must be around 100 steps down to it, but it was very clean, and you could walk out 50 yards into the sea without getting out of your depth.
All in all it was a very enjoyable holiday, and we wouldn't hesitate in going back again.
N.B Just a word of warning. We booked a transfer with alpha rooms(we've used them before), and we paid just over £100, and we could have got a private taxi at the airport for 30 euros each way. The journey was less than 20 mins.

| said: Arrived at the hotel after a taxi transfer which is a bit pricey at €28 if there are only 2 of you but there is an Airport shuttle bus which is cheaper.
We were greeted with a smile at Reception and and told to put our luggage in the holding room for the time being as we would make Dinner and we would be allocated our room when we came back.
We were given a room in the main block which does look better than the second building, couldn't complain room was clean and looked as if it had been refurbished recently. It did look over the road but there was very little traffic noise.
We were an an All Inclusive basis which this hotel only does during the winter months but as the majority of the guests were Spanish Pensioners on their free annual holiday it was the easiest place in the world to get drinks.
Bar staff were very pleasant and the dishes of nuts and crisps given to you were a nice touch. We found the restaurant to be busy at times but always found a table and the staff again were very nice.
Food selection could be a little limited at times but for the money we were paying it was incredible value and there was always plenty of it.
There was an entertainment programme in the evenings which was OK but when you have seen the same thing over the years it can be a bit tiresome but at least the main lounge was smoke free which is a big bonus for non smokers.
Salou in February is quiet as most of the hotels are closed but it does mean getting around freely without hordes of holidaymakers.
Our 3 night stay went too quickly and for the cost involved I would go back in an instant Ryan air flight and hotel for £84, a bargain!!
I'm sure the hotel would be a different place in the height of the season but for a short winter break we couldn't fault it.

Half board was great so we had the freedom to eat out at lunch time or there was the snack bar by the pool the kids used it once they didn't rate it very much. The restaurant was fine staff quick to tidy after you and good with the little one, good assortment of food always something for everyone.
The staff were all good can't say any more .
Entertainment was brilliant we watched it most nights even the 5yr old enjoyed it.
The hotel location is fine with only a short walk to the strip and to the beaches .
Would definitely go back with out hesitation real nice place to go

| said: Returned from Salou on Saturday and we're planning our next trip already. We were so impressed with the Calypso from start to finish.
Our room had 2 large bedrooms and a huge balcony over looking the road. It was cleaned everyday, something which I wasn't expecting.
The food was great, I imagine it's very difficult to cater for so many people but we always found something we liked. Restaurant staff worked really hard cleaning tables and making sure buffet was always kept topped up.
The swimming pools were pretty cold but once you were in you soon warmed up.
Always staff cleaning round the pool. Most of the rubbish was left by holiday makers who obviously couldn’t see the bin!
The entertainment staff were brilliant, I can't praise them enough. Great shows every night. They all worked so hard and were so friendly. They made our holiday. Iria was fantastic and we all loved her.
The hotel is in a great location for Port Aventura which we visited 4 times and for bus stops, bars and restaurants if you miss breakfast!!!!
Only down side was I didn't win Miss Calypso!!!!! I booked this hotel on the basis of reviews on this site so thank you. None of us wanted to come home and we would definitely recommend the Calypso.

The food was awful and you had to wait to get in the dining room .
It was very noisy I dont no how many time the police were called for fighting guests and drunken brawls, we booked this holiday thinking it was a family hotel, but it wasnt. There were gangs of lads and girls staying there too.
The locals were very noisy revving cars and playing music from there cars I think I slept maybe 1 night out of 14,
so I wouldnt recomend this hotel to anyone ,it has put me off Spain.
I will say that the entertainment was ok a lot of miming to songs but was ok they were quite good with the kids.

We like it because the location is ideal for us, being not to far away from the center of Salou, but far enough to be fairly quiet at night, you can not hear noise from the resort, but do expect some noise from other holidaymakers.
The staff speak english, rooms are basic but clean. Food is plentiful there are microwaves in the restaraunt for reheating your food to how you want it.
The pool are is not really that good and looks a bit shabby, there are plenty of sunbeds.
An internet area, small ten pin bowling ally, pool tables, and games machines. Plenty of entertainments for all the family,we love the Calypso & will return again.

Wasn’t very clean carpet in the hallway was a disgrace. Mould on ceiling in one of our rooms bathroom tiles falling off wall. We reported it to rep but because we were a group booking they didn’t have enough rooms for us all, so we just stayed put but didn’t let it spoil our holiday.
Couldn’t fault the food it was fab something for everyone. Hotel staff were friendly. Entertainment was ok .
We booked well in advance so we expected something better and what we paid for it wasn’t cheap. It wasn’t worth the money definitely wouldn’t go back. If you are going ask what block you will be in and the brochure just shows the new block which I think is terrible as that’s what you think your getting.

The food is great with a huge selection and different carvery each night. The only complaint is that the food was the exact same the second week as the first.
The rooms are small but well cleaned daily.
We were about a two minute walk from the main street, but far enough away to not hear noise. The beach is about ten minutes away.
The hotel staff were okay but double check change at the pool bar as one waiter made quite a habit of short changing.
The entertainment was ok but started a little late, but staff worked really hard to put shows together.
The sun beds were a nightmare to get, not enough beds or space around the pools for the number of guests in the hotel.
All in all a good holiday.

We were situated in the old block which however could have done with a coat of paint and carpets cleaned on first impressions I could have just turned round and gone home again.
There is however a new block which is really nice and were we assured we would get a room there we would definately go back, the thing that made the holiday for us was the entertainment the staff worked so hard morning to night, they were brilliant....

We were in the main block which was very nice, were very pleased to find our room came with a small single room off the main double bed area which was perfect for our little boy who is 5. The rooms were basic but clean and maids came in every day to clean and provide us with fresh towels. It was nice to come back to a lovely clean room everyday. Air con was great especially with the temperature reaching 100 degrees most days.
The restaurant was lovely buffet was nice, good choice of food but breakfast was a bit dodgy, the only day we had proper sausages and they were not cooked properly so watch out for that. 2 pools both were cleaned thoroughly everyday, but did not open till 10.30 most mornings, surprised to find poolside food not expensive and yummy.
This is a huge hotel and very busy but we had a great time would definitely go back, flew with ryanair from prestwick and got a taxi in for 25 euros no problem. I booked the room with Thomson which was only £385 for the week all in all flights and hotel was only £650 for 3 of us and ws well worth it, Loved It!

When we first went to the old block which is where our room was on the first floor. It was dirty all through the block, the stairs looked has if they had not been cleaned in years, the carpet had all bits of food over it, then to top it off the wardrobe in our room smelt of damp and they was mould growing up the walls.
The restaurant was dirty the food ,well it was cold uncooked and just not eatable. We had to eat in a local cafe.
The pool area was dirty sunbeds never cleaned
Would never go to this hotel again told friends and family to keep away.

Firstly the Calypso is a huge complex. 2 buildings. 2 main pools, 2 kiddie pools. A play area. There is plenty going on and always loads of people coming and going.
Rooms
We booked 2 rooms with Thomson, Thomsons told us that there were no 'interconnecting' rooms left. However we emailed the hotel to ask if they could help us and gladly they could. The rooms are a bit on the basic side, only 1 power point in the bedroom area (although socket doublers can be bought locally). There is limited space to put your cloths etc, but then there was 5 of us. First surprise was there were a few English TV channels on the room telly. BBC1, ITV3, Reality TV, Discovery & Sky Movies 1. Although you don't go away to watch the TV, it's handy when you want the kids to have a siesta. We were allocated rooms in the 'main block' and had rooms overloooking the front of the hotel. These were probably the best rooms in the place, but with a stark warning...... The hotel had Spanish (& English) kids staying and people we spoke to reported that they kept them awake all night, screaming and knocking on doors. However the hotel did move the british guests to a different floor, but if you're going early in the season and are in the main block, keep an eye out for the arriving coaches.
We didn't stay in the 'Thomson' block, but the rooms seemed to be similar furnished to our room. Again people reported noise until the early hours, but that was from the other Thomson guests. So you can't win really.
Food
The resturant was busy and queues were the 'norm'. Breakfast was from 0800 - 1030 and dinner 1830 - 2130. We never had any problems waiting for a table at breakfast, but at dinner the queues at 7pm were long. I'd recommend you either eat first thing or wait until after the rush (about 9). Breakfast was typical of 3* spanish hotel food. A choice of breakfast cereals ; Coco Pops, Cornflakes, Muesli and Golden Nuggets. There was also fruit, flavoured milks & biscuits. On the cooked front; Bacon, fried egg, scramled egg, sausage (not always british bangers), mushrooms, baked beans, chips and some left over chicken nugget (or similar) from the previous night. A salad and cheese/ ham were also available. Loads of bread rolls & toast washed down with tea, coffee, hot choclate, orange juice and a rather tasty youghurt drink. Evening meals contained a choice of 2 soups, a range of basic salad, a choice of 3 'extra' salad dishes (like chefs special) a meat, chicken & fish dish, a potato dish (mostly chips) and vegtables. There was also cavery meat as well. They still had the Thomson 'Superfamily' kids buffet that had the chicken nuggets, pizza, chips, burgers, sausages. We had 4 theme nights during our 2 week stay, with different choices.
Entertainment
As previously stated the pools were freezing, but that didn't put off the kids. 2 main pools with sunbeds and life guards. A small circular kiddie pool by the main block and a larger kiddie pool by the 'Thomson Block'. The hotel arranged for activities during the day, not too much 'in your face'. The kids disco started at 2130 at night, a bit late for our youngest (2), with an evening show at 2230. Entertainment went on until the small hours. The Thomson kids clubs were great and the kids loved them, but keep an eye out on the times, they changed them 4 times during our 2 weeks and as a result we missed one day.
Location
This hotel isn't in the centre of things, which can be good as well as bad. There's 2 cash points just outside the hotel and the Porta Ventura land train stops outside the hotel. However turn left out of the hotel and first left and about 5 mins later you find yourself in the main shopping street. A Plana public bus to Porta Ventura costs 1.40 each from there. Buy your ticket from the person in the red kiosk by the bus stop. The Number 1 takes you straight to the park and runs about every 10 mins. It's about a 15 min walk to the main beach.
The Calypso is a good 3* spanish hotel. The staff work hard to keep you happy. The food is good (but not great) and the hotel clean (but not spotless). If visiting, keep an open mind and the 'holiday spirit' in your hearts. If you come here with a negative approach the bad things like the noise, queues, kids will quicky make you happy.
Would I visit this hotel again? We answered NO, not because the hotel is bad, this is a good 3* hotel, but simply because with the room allocation and the possibility of loads of spanish school kids means we won't come back at this time of the year. Don't allow this to put you off the Calypso, it's a good hotel.

For a family holiday with kids this hotel was perfect but I wouldn't like to go without kids. It was noisy and busy, meal times especially hectic.
I would definitely visit again as a family

We stayed 2 weeks half board, the food was good but after 2 wks of it I was glad to get home and cook something for myself.
The pool was very cold. The entertainment was the usual hotel stuff.
I didnt think much of the Thomson staff, found them to be very unhelpful.
We booked this hotel after reading previous reviews, I was disappointed and think this hotel is over-rated.

| said: I re-visited Hotel Calypso in March 2006 after going with a friend last October.
The hotel is excellent with something for everyone. It has been dropped by Thomson most likely due to the infamous Thomson Block with the infamous Toilets that sounded like a volcano going off!
I must stress when I was there in March the Thomson Block was being done up, so hopefully Thomsom will take this great Hotel back on again soon!
I would recomment to everyone and anyone to fly Ryanair direct to Reus - Flights every day! around £32.00 all inclusive return if you play with your fly out / return days!
Use "resort hoppa" for transfers - 20.00 euro's drop of and collect from hotel on a shared minibus - I was the only person on mine!
If you book direct with the Hotel you can have a roon in the NEW block from 20.00 Euro's per night B&B in May for example.
My 5 days is only £100.00 in total to go back AGAIN in May this year!
Dont give up on it, just because Thomson have dropped it!

| said: Having stayed in Salou before, we were aware of the Hotel's location although did not know much about it.
We were surprised by the size of the hotel and the amenities (2 pool areas (with lifeguards!)/games hall/various bars etc). Although we didn't have any children with us, it is perfect for all ages. The kids pool area has a sponge floor play area and a stream (exension from the pool) for them to happily play in.
The restaurant was excellent with plenty of variety. They had 3 separate themed nights while we were there. We have stayed in many HB accomodation hotels before and we have never seen food quite like this. Plenty of variety with a separate kids area. Food trays are replaced regularly, even where such trays have hardly been touched.
Whilst on a map it would appear the Hotel is on the outskirts, it is only a 3 minute walk from the main centre road (turn left out of hotel and down 1st road on left). You'll see a pub called Fordies Bar - highly recommended as the food and beer prices are unreal.
The hotel rooms although basic, are very clean. The only comment I would make is beware of the lack of power points. You have to either unplug the TV or use the one in the bathroom.
As we only stayed for 3 nights, we didn't take time to see the entertainment, however there is a large staged area in the pool area and the Hotel entertainment staff were seen rehearsing their show which looked quite professional.
We are coming back to Salou next April and would have no hesitation in staying here again.

| said: We arrived at the Calypso late in the evening to be told that there were no fridges available as they were all rented out already. No apologies, tough luck. The room was the most disgusting room that I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. It had supposedly been cleaned but the underside of the tap in the bathroom was covered in hardened toothpaste, the bath and the floor were covered in hairs and the towels were threadbare. Balls of fluff lurked in the corners of the room and inside the wardrobe.
The reps were completely unhelpful and passed the buck when it came to complaints onto the hotel staff who then said it had nothing to do with them as we were Thomson customers.
The restaurant was ok, the food was good but chips for breakfast in the children's section was just too much to bear.
Never again.

Booked the hotel independently & were pleased to find that it was a Thomson Super Family hotel when we got there.
We had 4 kids with us (13/10/3/1) & found that the hotel catered well for all ages, the play areas were great for the younger 2 and the older 2 loved the arcades, pool room and 10 pin bowling.
We had booked 2 interconnecting rooms, which the hotel had informed us, before travelling would not be available until the 2nd night, which wasn't a problem.
The rooms were clean and modern and the maids changed the bedding & towels everyday. ( 1 of the reps told us not to make the beds & they will change the bedding everyday!!!)
The restaurant was pretty good too, with a seperate kids buffet area, it was hard not to find something you liked.
Overall, the holiday was really enjoyable and I would not hesitate to go back to the Calypso.

Food - great choices especially for breakfast and evening meal. Childrens buffet very good for my 2 year old - we got him some of everything so he could pick and choose for himself.
Restaurant tended to get a bit busy esp at start and end of meal times, so best to go in between these times.
Good location, far enough away from town centre but only 5/10 mins walk away if you wanted it.
Hotel staff - generally very friendly and eager to help, especially the long suffering reception staff - I tried to hire a fridge but couldnt get one (needed it to put milk in for my 2 yr old) receptionist suggested I buy milk and they would keep it in fridge at reception and I just needed to ask for it when I needed it - great!
Entertainment- hotel team good, better than Thomsons. 2X mini discos for kids at night (Thomsons one 8.30-9.30 and hotel one 9.30-10.30)they were both okay, a lot of talking at them rather than just letting the kids dance.
Reps nightly entertainment varied from being excellent to not so good (especially when they mimed) but still watchable.
Didnt partake in daytime entertainment but could see/hear it going on, seemed okay.
Personally felt the entertainment let the otherwise fantastic hotel down a bit.

Rooms were spacious and clean and the hotel staff were very friendly - good English speaking. Entertainment every day and night with different themes too, abosolutely fantastic, Med Playa staff were great. Something for the kiddies everynight too - mini discos and entertainment from the Thomson reps. Hotel was set back away from the main town and only 10 minutes walk to the nearest beach. The hotel does attract lots of Dutch people who try to beat you to the beds around the pool. The Spanish like to stay here too. Not many tours on offer from Thomsons although would recommend the boat excursions. Would highly recommend for a family orientated holiday.

There was a daily maid who cleaned the rooms every day. The food was good good choice and had a childs menu but did get a bit monotinous.
The location of the hotel was good because you were within very close walking distance to the town and beach but not to close so you wouldnt be disturbed by any late clubs or bars. Hotel staff were very helpful they were always there if you needed any help at all.
The entertainment team put all their effort into making it a good holiday for everyone. They used to arrange games around the hotel for adults as well as children which was good.
I would definitely visit the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone.

We all really enjoyed the entertainment the most of all the holiday, especially the hotel Med Playa team. 100% effort put in.
Went on a few days out to Barcelona, Andorra, Aquapolis waterpark and great time at Port Aventura especially the firework display at 12.00 midnight.
The best holiday ever for everything. Definitely go back.
Only one thing let it down, the food, alright 1st couple of nights but got sick of the same thing at breakfast so we had to eat out a lot which cost us quite a bit with a big party of 6.
Still recommend it to anyone.

The entertainment staff and Thomson's reps are very hardworking fabulous people, who try to ensure that all children are inlcuded. Our 7yr old daughter was on her own and unsure of attending the kidszone or disco, however the reps encouraged her to join in and feel part of the group. The kidszone is great as it allows parents to have a couple of hours free time, knowing that your child is well looked after.
The swimming pools are great, manned by lifeguards. There is also a kids playarea, an internet room and games room, including ten pin bowling lanes, basket ball machines, pool tables, table hockey and other machines. There is also the "green room" where various films are shown and where the entertainment continues after midnight, if you so wish.
We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will definately visit again.

We were feeling very nervous as the taxi approached the hotel but we need not have worried - we could not fault this hotel in any way. Located off the beaten track but only 20 minutes leisurely walk to the beach the hotel was immaculate - hotel rooms cleaned every day, hotel staff polite and always ready to help. Food was fantastic with every other night being a 'themed night' with all waiters/waitresses dressing up accordingly - we were very impresses especially with the glass of champagne on 'Oscar Night'!!!
A special mention has to go to the medway entertainment staff - they did not stop - the evening entertainment was excellent - we could not believe the girls and boys performed Starlight Express one evening - we were so impressed.
There were alot of Spanish school children at the hotel whilst we were there but i can only say that they were impeccably behaved and only for them being the only brave ones to venture into the pool at 5 p.m. we would not have known they were there!!!
We are already looking to book again next year.

It was always hot with plenty of choice even the kids had a variety of food to chose from!
Our hotel room was extremely clean and the maids were all polite and friendly our one year old was especially fussed over which he throughly enjoyed!!
The entertainment was fantastic with something for everyone my only drawback was that the main show didn't start until half past ten! After a hard days sunbathing this was sometimes a little too late for our young one! As we overlooked the stage we were able to watch from our balcony which was a bonus.
There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool however there were a lack of umbrella's and people who didn't have children tended to snap them up before people with young children could, luckily there are plenty of trees around the pool to provide shade.
I would most definately visit this hotel again.

The food was fantastic a great range of english food, try to get to breakfast at 8:30 because queing becomes a great problem same with tea get there for 6:30. Still after the queing the food is still great and hot as it is always topped up.
The hotel was clean but watch out fot the ANTS!!!!! We never stayed in to watch the entertainment so cannot comment. Beer in hotel bar was flat and horrible, we recommend going to Fordies bar round the corner very cheap for meals and drinks also Champions bar on the main street.
Hotel location was great as the start of the shops were only just round the corner, lovely walk down to the beach.
Cleaning staff were always cheerful but the pool bar staff are a bit grumpy and rude. Because of the spanish children I would not go again in May. Overall we enjoyed the holiday and had a great time.

The entertainment team were brilliant; they worked really hard to make everyone happy, both day and night. Great location for access to local buses, bus stop for port aventura right opposite the hotel, I must add this was a great day out, especially as they brought Halloween forward by 2 weeks, there were scary characters running round the park later on,!!
I would recommend the old mines roller coaster ride if you dare! Brilliant for both kids and adults, also aqua polis Water Park, if you go don’t forget to look what time the dolphin and sea lion show is on, at the glass bottom pool.
We went on an excursion we booked through the reps, which was Barcelona family fun, a tour of Barcelona stadium and then on to the Barcelona zoo, the tour guide was excellent on this trip and I priced it cheaper through the reps than with the travel agent down the road.
We only went for a week and feel we really needed a fortnight. We all would definitely go back to this hotel, as it is aimed at families, 10/10

My only critism is that the flushing toilets is the noisiest I have ever heard, and that the entertainment went on for too long with children returning to rooms at 2 or 3 in the morning, and not quietly. NOT THE HOTEL FOR A QUEIT HOLIDAY, but no doubt excellent for younger families.

The theme parks are brilliant a wee bit expensive but worth it.
The hotel was spotless with maids everyday.
Meals were very good and plenty to choose from. Staff very friendly.
Entertainment well! What can I say out of this world! The entertainment team were brilliant all day long you were entertained in 1 way or another. Their shows are amazing and the work that goes into the sets, suits and routines is phenomenal. Even the kids who were 13 & 10 said it was their best holiday yet. The wee 1 we hardly saw between kids club, mini club & mini disco. The big 1 loved the water sports & darts, pool, table tennis& ten pin bowling competitions.
The kids club reps do a brilliant job. only down side is evening entertainment doesn’t start until 10.30 and if you are in rooms above the stage as we where it can be very noisy until early hours I think it would be better to start evening entertainment at 9.30 instead, as its a long wait.
But on the whole this is 1 of the best holidays we have had & we will definitely be returning

| said: I thought the hotel was really clean as the maids were tidying up all the time, the food was good but you have to make sure you dont get to breakfast too late as there will be quite a long queue.
The location was nice there were alot of shops on the way to the beach which was nice. There was also alot of theme park things about 20mins (on the bus) there was Aqua Polis, Port Aventura, Costa Caribe and House of Illusions that I recommend.
The hotel staff were VERY friendly and the entertainment was excellent the shows were great and the entertainment crew were very energetic giving every thing I had a lovely stay and would enjoy going back.!!!

| said: Hotel staff were friendly enough, Thomson Reps were a joke. They were the most unhelpful and uninterested reps we've met, which was a bit annoying.
Hotel is clean but could be doing with some upgrading. Food was ok, lots to choose from but not the best quality. Breakfast time is VERY busy, most mornings there was a queue to get into the hall.
Entertainment was good, the hotel staff really put everything into it and were brilliant with the kids at the mini disco. BEWARE WHEN THE WATER POLO IS ON IN THE POOL AS THEY USE A LEATHER BALL WHICH COULD QUITE EASILY INJURE SOMEONE!
Security wasn't so good. Four rooms were "broken into" whilst we were there (All four were entered using a key) Watch your belongings at the poolside as things tend to go missing.
If you're looking for a quiet holiday don't stay at The Calypso Hotel as there's music and games from 10.30am - 2am!!
PS: BOOK A FRIDGE IN THE UK BEFORE YOU GO AS YOU HAVE NO CHANCE OF GETTING ONE WHEN YOU GET THERE. THERE'S HUNDREDS OF ROOMS AND ONLY 20 FRIDGES!

| said: Hotel was clean but the staff were hard to find when you needed them.
Hotel is a good 20mins from the beach but the 2 pools were big enough.
Could not fault the entertainment it was the end of the season and they did not stop working from morning till night and when they did have time off they still entertained the kids as they were passing (well done to them)
Food was the same every night we ate out a lot after the first couple of nights.
