| said: I would say first and foremost that the Viva Bahia is in Playa de Muro, not Alcudia.
The whole place was spotlessly clean inside and out with a team of cleaners scrubbing the sunbeds, polishing the floor, trimming the flowers, sieving the pool, emptying ash trays, etc, etc. It truly was spotless everywhere.
They even carry out their written threat to remove towels from sunbeds before 9.15am. How I chuckled as I sat and watched the maintenance man casually folding big handfuls of towels then sauntering off to the reception with them.
Rooms were cleaned 5 times a week and again were spotless. My only slight grumble was the lack of a toaster, microwave and cereal bowls but I experienced this problem at a previous Viva hotel so its obviously company policy not to provide the utensils for a standard English breakfast. We hired a toaster for about €20 (cheeky buggers) and got some bowls from the restaurant. No microwave though.
We were self catering but there a choice of eating areas here. You can have the buffet at €12.50 for adults and €6.50 for kids. An amazing selection, eat as much as you want, superb quality and excellent value but you have to pay extra for drinks. Or twice a week they do a `gala meal` outdoors which was €18 for adults and €5.50 for kids. This was a set menu but included free beer or sangria all night. Again an excellent meal. Then there's an indoor restaurant which was more basic, with pizzas and stuff and then during the day they have a large snack bar serving the usual meals like omelette, cheeseburger and that kind of thing. Once again, excellent value and good quality.
The waiters were typically Spanish, taking all day to serve you but thats par for the course in Majorca.
The kids club was nicely run but as there were very few English in the place it tended to be mainly German kiddies in there. Our kids weren't interested at all!
Evening entertainment varied from very good to painful but again its what you expect in these kind of places. I spotted the `evening mystery show` which transpired to be a `Mr Viva Bahia` competition coming a mile off and hid at the bar for ten minutes while they pleaded with 3 blokes to come on stage and make complete arses of themselves. NOT what I want to do on my holiday really and it made for cringe worthy watching. Is it really funny to be made to dress in ladies clothes and dance for 5 minutes?
The hotel was located right on the beach so in that sense it was good but in terms of entertainments surrounding the hotel there were just a handful of restaurants and some `supermarkets`. Nothing else to do really. Problem is that Playa de Muro is split in half and the two halves are separated by a busy stretch of road about 3/4 mile long.
There was no pavement to walk down so realistically it meant a taxi to the other busier half. Our taxi driver summed the Viva Bahia location up when he said `it is for people who want to rest and rest and rest and go in the sea and rest and rest`.
Couldn't have put it better!
