Arrival.

This is our 2nd visit to this friendly family run hotel. (Previously came in June 2006).
As suggested we emailed Fatima and Hari (the owners) prior to our arrival. We were met in reception by Fatima who immediately recognised and gave us a warm welcome, and informed us that she had reserved a special room for us at no extra cost.
Our room (162) was situated on the 1st floor in one of the main blocks adjacent to the restaurant and was extremely spacious. It had a double bed, single bed, and chair bed, a small balcony and a large shared terrace overlooking the pool. We also had a mini fridge which was very welcome as the temperature soared to over 50oC over the fortnight and we could keep cool drinks and fruit in there. We also had air conditioning and a safe (payable locally). The room was kept extremely clean and fresh with regular changes of towels and bedlinen.

Pool Area.

This has been updated considerably since last year with new wooden sunbeds and comfortable mattresses, large couches and bean bags, also a double hammock situated in the shade.
The main pool depth has been raised since last year to give equal depth throughout and the pool is sizeable enough for people to swim comfortably with still enough room for those who wish to relax with lilos. Parasols are provided for those who wish to relax on the sunbeds but do not want direct sun.
Music provided for the most part was gentle and relaxing, and on the only occasions it became uncomfortably loud, a discreet comment to Renzo, who is manager of public areas and restaurant ensured the music was adjusted to an acceptable volume.

Bar/Restaurant/Lounge areas.

These have been modernised and updated since last year with sliding glass doors enclosing the indoor restaurant and lounge areas, and comfy sofas and armchairs to relax in in the lounge area. There is now also air conditioning and 2 large flat screen TVs.
Alfresco dining is also available with sunny or shaded areas according to individual requirements.
The standard of meals, although high last year, has improved further this year, with a varied menu of well cooked and well presented food with good value for money.
Included breakfast is Turkish style, cold meats, cheeses, salad, olives, boiled eggs, bread + rolls with a variety of jams and honey as well as tea or coffee. However, for those who prefer a full English brakfast, this is available at a reasonable charge as are other breakfast snacks, and the sizeable English breakfast would fill even the hungriest customer.
Also, special meals are laid on occasionally in addition to the normal menu and guests are invited to partake of these. We did so and had a fantastically cooked local speciality of lamb shank with a mixed mezze starter. This was followed by fried ice cream - sounds 'different' but extremely delicious and well worth trying.

Staff.
All of the staff were extremely helpful in all areas of the hotel and became more like friends by the end of the holiday. There is a new receptionist since last year who was very friendly and helpful. The bar/restaurant team - Sidat, Eljin and Sinan, led by Renzo catered for your every need and were a great source of fun despite working very long hours.

Entertainment.

This is limited to convivial chat and relaxation with other friendly like-minded guests, many of whom are repeat visitors. Background music is provided which became more vibrant as the evening progressed leading to spontaneous dancing and fun.
The hotel also laid on a party night with an excellent barbecue, belly dancer and other entertainment at reasonable cost. A photographer also attended and the excellent photos were displayed by the bar for you to buy if you wished.
Audience participation was encouraged and a great night was had by all.

Final comments.

All in all we had another fantastic 2 week holiday and cannot wait to return next year. Having spoken to other guests, who booked through a Turkish tour company and got a considerably cheaper deal than us, this is the way we will be booking as soon as we have our holiday dates confirmed for next year. Alternatively Renzo informed us that if you can book a cheap flight, you can contact the hotel direct to book your accommodation at very reasonable rates and transfers can also be arranged by the hotel.

Although this is a long review, we feel that this hotel does not get the praise and acknowledgement it deserves, as many guests are regular visitors and already know about it.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in a friendly atmosphere, in a quieter part of the resort close to the beach. Although it is only a short walk away from the centre of the resort with its bustling night life, it is far enough away to ensure a peaceful relaxing holiday if that is what you want. Local minibuses (dolmus) pass the front of the hotel at frequent intervals, taking you to the bus terminal in Bodrum from where you can get transport to many other resorts and places of interest on the peninsula.

Sultan/Bagevleri is fantastic and I would recommend to anyone.

Staff are absolutely fantastic, rooms are brilliants and the location is ideal.

This is a family run hotel and they will do anything they can to make sure your stay is perfect.

Bar man will make you any drink you wish and often make up cocktails just for you.

I have been to this hotel before and am definitely going back next year.

We stayed here for two long weeks, the first week they put cornflakes out for breakfast but on Tuesday of the second week we were told that if we wanted cornflakes we would have to 50p a bowl for them.

They wanted £50 for the fortnight for Airconditoning which went off when you went out.

The cleaners came in every day emptied the bin in the bathroom and went in two weeks we had our floor clean twice only and not very good at that.

The breakfast wasn't up to much, ok if you like Chees and tomatoes but the meals from the restaurant in the evening was good although the service was terrible. The boys would rather look at and chat up the girls than serve, many complained about it. On a couple of occasions they brought the wrong food or drinks that we had ordered, but they were working up to 15 hours aday every day so they must be a little tired.

Perhaps thats why they played the music so loud all day that you couldn't sit comfortably aound the pool and it went on well after midnight most nights.

Last night they served a group from Essex all night long and the noise was terrible we were glad to get away this morning.

The location is quite good as you can catch a bus to Bodrum to escape for a while.

I would give the staff 1 out 10 only.

The entertainment was the very loud music all day and night, terrible, twice they had a so called belly dancer, terrible and a group of dancers if you can call them that. 0 out 10

We would nerver visit Gumbet again not alone this so called hotel.

I stayed at hotel Sultan (Bagevleri) with my boyfriend.

We had a great time and will defo return. the bar manager tanju is soooo caring and nice, also so is Mehmet Aka Nemo, Ozer, both Stuarts, Adam and Seffar. It was like having another family with me, tanju arranged great trips for us to go on and we made some brilliant friends who we are sill in contact with.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, although the rooms were basic that was all you needed as the resturant at the hotel was lovely and everything you need is right beside you at the top of the street which is 3minutes walk there are loads of shops for yourself and getting pressies, including jewellery and clothes,

The Sultan Bagevleri in Gumbet was a fantastic family run hotel.

The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful and went out of their way for us.

The rooms were clean and reasonably spacious and were cleaned daily.

The Sultan is a short walk from the beach and the centre of Gumbet.

The food was excellent and great value for money and we would definitely reccommend this hotel to anyone going to Gumbet.

Our stay at the hotel was absolutely superb.

The staff were excellent the rooms were lovely and the entertainment was brilliant fun.

There were 8 adults and two children of which one of them was aged 1 and a half and the attention that the staff at the hotel gave not only him but the whole family as they did all the families young and old was fantastic.

I can say that I will return to this hotel ASAP and I would recommend anyone visiting Gumbet to give this hotel 100% thought.

Thanks to all at the hotel for a wonderful time and hope to see you all soon in 2006.
