| said: Oh, dear, what a dissapointment. After reading such glowing reports I was really looking forward to something special. Where do I start? Offhand reception staff, room stinking of stale cigarette smoke, Hard beds, watery coffee. Although these may be small annoyances, it's often the little things that colour your perceptions. To be fair, some of the waiting staff really tried to make an effort, and were extremely pleasant, but the reception staff couldn't seem to raise a smile even if you paid them. A holiday in one of my favourite places with a curates egg of an hotel.

| said: We arrived at the hotel around 3am, and was welcomed by friendly staff and cold drinks and biscuits which we thought was lovely.
We had requested a pool view with our room, but when we looked out from our balcony we looked over the road leading in to Tossa, but it wasn't a problem. The road is not that busy and we had lovely views of the hillsides around. We had two rooms next to each other, so the children had their little bit of Independence which they loved. Each room had a double and a single bed, a kettle and tea & coffee. They were cleaned every day, the whole hotel is spotless. The only thing I was unhappy with in the room was the pillows. They were far too soft and your head just fell straight into the middle.
The main pool we found to be a bit cold, so we spent all the time by the second pool which was great.
Please be prepared to put on weight at this hotel. The food was fantastic. So much choice. Me and my husband went out one night to eat, but the children wanted to stay at the hotel, they were quite happy.
All in all the whole holiday was great. I loved the hotel and Tossa de Mar. The resort had a lovely feel to it. Safe, clean and friendly. I would definitely go back.

| said: Just returned from a 2 week holiday there. Hotel has excellent facilities. Rooms are clean and perfectly adequate but didn't deafen the noise of the entertainment in the evening, we were 2 floors up over the entertainment lounge - very noisy and loud if you wanted an early night forget it.
Food in my opinion was very poor and certainly not worthy of a 4 star rated hotel. OK you could eat as much you wanted but the food was only lukewarm, eating in the restaurant was not pleasant due to too many tables too close together and not enough self service areas, too many people milling about and busy queues for food. Cutlery was badly scratched and often bent and many chipped plates, usually had to change the plate I picked up because not washed properly. No sooner had I arrived in the restaurant than I wanted to get out again as quickly as possible.

We got back from this hotel on Saturday and cannot recommend it highly enough.
The Hotel itself is in a nice location only a short walk from the beach (about ten minutes or so) as you walk through the town you pass lovely little streets with some lovely shops and restaurants, small churches, art galleries etc.
The beach is quite course but ok, they have glass bottom boats where you are able to go into the caves and stay at another beach for the day if you wish.
The hotel itself is great, very clean, lovely helpful staff and has all you could want.
For small children it is perfect they have a large shallow pool and a deeper one for older children and adults, there was always enough sun beds and a nice eating area beside the pool. The grounds are fenced off so the children can go off and enjoy themselves without the worry of them escaping. They had some entertainment during the day for adults and children.
The restaurant is nice, with a good selection of different foods each evening, it is served as a buffet and you can eat as much as you like. They also have a dress code of no shorts or sleeveless t-shirts for the men. (Luckily my husband had packed some long trousers).
The rooms are comfortable and air conditioned and cleaned everyday, they also provided clean towels everyday if you wanted them. There are tea and coffee making facilities a TV and hairdryer. There is also food and drink machines on each floor which serve soft and alcoholic drinks and an ice machine.
The entertainment isn't fantastic in fact it's a bit like Pheonix Nights but it was still fun, the bars are waiter service so you don't even have to leave your seats if you don't want to. The piano bar was very nice and the pianist even had us up singing with him one night. (This bar is adults only).
There is a launderette which came in handy as we were there for 2 weeks, and also a spa offering massages etc. The hotel also changes up money and travellers cheques and The Thomson holiday rep is there offering some good excursions.
All in all it was a fantastic relaxing holiday and I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it.

| said: Excellent hotel and a very nice resort. We had four generations in our party (6 adults and an 18 month old baby) and we all enjoyed our holiday.
The hotel was very clean and modern. The staff were helpful and friendly. The dining area was very pleasant (eat inside or out).
The food wasn’t the best we’ve had, compared to other holidays, but it was perfectly alright. We weren’t able to take advantage of the piano bar because of the baby (no children are allowed in the piano bar, and this is the only public area where smoking is allowed), but we were very happy to have a drink and chat in the main hall in the pleasant smoke-free environment.
The 18 month old enjoyed the mini disco, for 45 minutes each evening, and we enjoyed watching him! Then, at 9 o’clock, the two vocalists gave us a pleasant melody of songs to listen to or sing along with. Some evenings this was followed by some other entertainment.
All in all it suited us. We would recommend this hotel and would go again.

Great room with two double beds and fantastic view of the pool area which is lovely. Has it's own mini golf there, and indoor heated pool which is good, roof terrace which is nice to chill out with a book, or look at the view. Piano bar for adults only.
Overall a fantastic hotel, suited more for couples or families with young tots, not for older children.

Good selection of food each evening with fish and meat freshly cooked for you should you not want to visit the open buffet - proices very reasonbable in bar with good bottle of Ricoh at restaurant costing approx £6
Worst point probably the evening entertainment (ie only lasts one hour and far too many juggling acts). Hotel very clean and loits of nationalities (ie mainly spanish and french guests then english.
Thompson reps the usal - just interested in selling you their trips and not knowing very much about the resort itself or surrounding area - but the hotel staff very helpful

The food both at breakfast and dinner was excellent-loads of choice and good quality. We tended to eat outside most evenings.
There is entertainment every night as well as a piano bar where the guy will play any requests you may have - we spent most evenings from 11-12.30 enjoying a few drinks and listening to him playing.
The hotel was mostly families, some young some with teenagers but there are no groups of teenagers so it had a 'nice' atmosphere. I imagine the groups of teenagers would choose Lloret rather than Tossa.
We would definitely recommend this hotel- 10 out of 10!

The hotel and rooms were kept very clean, and all the hotel staff were polite and helpful throughout our holiday.
The entertainment was very good the first week but on the second it was repeated.
In the pool everyday there was aerobics exercises that children and adults could join in with. On the top of the hotel there was an adults only bit where you can relax with no children shouting and screaming.
For adults and children this hotel is great.
This hotel is fantastic and I would definitely go again!!

| said: This was our first holiday back to mainland for 19years and to choose a resort and hotel such as the Golden Bahia de Tossa this made us wonder why we have waited so long.
Everywhere in the hotel was absolutely spotless and the staff were some of the best we have come across and the two young ladies who ran the piano bar were par excellence!
A mention must be made of the guy whose job it was to attend to the pool areas, every evening he was there cleaning/sweeping/hosing down and placing the sunbeds in perfect order. While we were there one morning some repairs were being made to the lamps around the pool, this guy was there right behind them with his brush and pan waiting to clear there dust!! Dedication or what.
The food was cosmopolitan in variety but the expression when in Rome! comes to mind.
To sum up this hotel, we have stayed in some so called 5 star hotels that come no where near this hotels standards.
This is a hotel that we would recommend and we would return without any hesitation.

| said: This is really a fab Hotel, probably one of the best hotel's we have stayed in and we have stayed in alot!!! It is very clean, light and airy with a good feeling of space.
All the staff were very friendly and helpfull, especially the Reception Desk when we booked to go to see FC Barcelona play football.
The hotel rooms are very comfortable, with excellent storage space for all our clothes, the tea & coffee making facilities were great, We had a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool with a table and chairs on the large balcony, also a little folding towell rail which was great to dry the beach towells on.The bathroom was very spacious and immaculately clean, the hairdryer was a proper hairdryer not one of those pipe ones that start off cold and then get so hot you can' hold it - this one really worked well.
At the start of each floor there was a vending area which was very usfull so you can get ice (free) bottled cold water (€1.80) and various sweet and savory snacks (crips /mar's bar's etc)
The dinning room is large and airy, again the staff are very helpfull and friendly. The food is good with a large varied display's of hot and cold buffet / fresh fruit / desserts (very yummy!!)
The pool area if excellent, you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a sun bed, there are plenty, even mid-afternoon, and they are very comfortable! Also you can hire pool/beach towells from the Spar for a deposit of €10 each towell, you can get them exchanged for clean towels each day between 10.30 am and 13:00 hours each day, try the massage / facial (€50.00) it's wonderful.
The indoor swiming pool is great and warm, so if it is a bit cooler outside it dosn't matter - the aqua arobics is great also.
Also try the roof terrace with it's 2 hot tubs & loads of sun beds, very relaxing
The resort of Tossa is very Spainish and really very very lovely, try the boat to Loret is's great.
walk up the old castle ruin for a superb view of the resort . There are quite a few nice bars to try and a nice stroll after dinner - the centre of the resort is about 10 minuets from the hotel.
We would go back to this hotel, which is something we don't normally do but we had such a great holiday can't wait to go back!
Very impressed!!

| said: Myself and my boyfriend have just come back from this hotel on a last minute holiday.
We thought the hotel was lovely, always clean and the staff were very helpful.
The variety of the food was excellent, even for me having to eat a non wheat diet. We both ate too much!
The room was always cleaned by the time we came back from breakfast! We didn’t have a kettle/tea making facilities in our room, so not sure about that as others have mentioned having this?? Had 2 double beds in room (mattress a bit hard), a TV, safe and plenty of storage space. The bathroom had bath/shower, wc/bidet and hairdryer.
It was nice to be able to use the sun loungers any time of day without the worry that they would all be covered in towels. There were plenty of them, and the outside pools/Jacuzzi were fantastic.
The beach was a 10-15 min stroll away and was very picturesque. The beach has very small shingles (NOT stones such as South Sea in the UK), which almost look like sand.
We would definitely visit this hotel/resort again.

Everything clean and tidy.
BUT the noise in the evening and into the early hours (up to 2:30 am) from unsupervised children was too much. Don't get a room next to the automatic bars which seem to attract children at all hours. Good point is I can say silence in at least 3 languages now.
However, would go back again but only out of season.
Don't miss the excursion to Besalu, Girona and Banyolas.
Three great places in one day.

| said: Food was quite adequate, lots of choice but sometime s there were peculiar dishes for breakfast, chicken wings, carrots etc., I think left from the night before. Could always find something to suit but nothing that you could eat with relish. The sweets were much nicer than the main course. Ate out a couple of times. Hotel was lovely and clean, pool area was well kept and there were always plenty of sunbeds and shades. No need to get up at dawn to reserve one. The location is a little set back from the beach but it's a nice walk past plenty of shops. Staff on reception were helpful, no problems there. Entertainment on an evening was extremely poor quality. Once a week there is a decent professional act but the rest of the time its the usual flamenco dancers/magicians etc. Bar area is extremely unsophisticated and uncomfortable, no easy chairs, but like a workingmans club. Also there are pool tables in the same area which encourages loads of kids running about making a noise. Not an atmosphere conducive to enjoying yourself. The daytime entertainment was brilliant, loads to do, football, darts, table tennis etc. all on a purpose built area and plenty of participants.

| said: The Hotel was spotless and the staff extremely friendly and attentive. Hotel was very airy, modern and spacious. Three lifts and 5 floors. We were on the 5th floor with a good view over the pool. Room kept very clean and of a good size. Phone, Television with Sky BBC1, drawer units, Wardrobe with very good space for all our clothes. Kettle with coffee sachets, teabags, milk etc. Great bathroom with bidet, hair dryer, soap, tissues, shampoo etc. Good shower and always enough hot water. Balcony with table and two chairs, wall clothes dryer (very handy for towels etc). At the start of every floor was a drinks station with cold drinks dispensers (1.60E for cold drinks, 1.80E for water). Chocolate, nuts and crips (1E) and a ice cub dispenser (free). Extremely useful and good value- saved having a drinks bar in the room.
We had a brilliant holiday and are already planning to go back to this Hotel next year.
Food:
Good choice for breakfast - cold meats, cheeses, salad et; fresh fruit such as pineapples, melons, peaches, pears etc, cooked breakfast with bacon, tomatoes, sausages etc. Chef cooked eggs to order - fryed, omelettes etc. Different varieties of breads etc. offee, tea, hot chocolate etc, fruit juices and of course the breakfast glass of Cava (free) for anyone in drinking at the time of the morning!
Dinner had plenty of choice from soup, the cold buffet and hot meals, good choice of desserts with fresh fruit and bowlfuls of fresh cherries. Excellent cheese board with Brie, Stilton and other cheeses. Food was plentiful and beautifully presented, staff excellent and all cutlery and crockery very clean. The only thing was that the choice for the hot food was limited
and perhaps geared more towards the Catalayn style of cooking. Having said that we only ate out one night preferring to eat at the Hotel. The management were very keen to get the food right and the Thomson Reps said they were in talks with the Hotel as to the style of cooking. So hopefully it will have improved by next year. It certainly would not put us off staying at the Hotel in the future.
Hotel was situated on the outskirts of the town - about 10mins walk to the beach. We walked after dinner every night, through the shops to the main promenade. Both the Tourist office and the Bus Station were only about 100 metres from the Hotel so it was ideally situated.
We didn't really see much entertainment as we walked after dinner and preferred to sit in the Piano Bar which was opened from 21.30 to 02.00 each day. No children allowed which was ideal for us. When you ordered drinks they was always a complimentary bowl of mixed nuts with your order. Again excellent service and atmosphere. The last Friday night in one of the bars they had a Four Tops Ever Group - taking off the Four Tops and Motown music. Excellent - by the end of the night most people had got up to dance and the group had 3 encores. Brilliant end to a brilliant holiday.
Hotel has an internet cafe, small shop for newsapers (Daily Express 1.80E), 3 bars, 2 outdoor swimming pools, one indoor pool, spa, jacuzzi etc. Sun bed for every guest with numerous umbrellas for shade. The 6th floor had a sunbathing deck with two hot tubs and also an area where you could nude sunbathe with a hot tub and shade area.

| said: Excellent hotel! The loccation was good, very handy for the bus station. A little road train was meant to leave from outside the hotel every half hour, but only seemed to run on weekends as far as we could tell.
It was about 10 minutes walk to the beach, but you get to walk through the shops to get there so it's not to big a hassle.
The pool is fantastic, never a shortage of loungers, so no need to get up early! It'a big, clean pool too, with 2 jacuzzis. There's also a sports pool. If it's too cold for you the rooftop solarium has 2 small jacuzzis which seems warmer!
The entertainment staff were fantatic, there was no Thompsons kids club, but the entertainment staff ran activities all day and were very friendly, they even had an evening awards ceremony where everyone who won the daily activites had to get up and do a victory dance!
The evening entertainment varied in quality but was always enthusiastic, and the bar was packed every night for it! There was always a quiz and bingo, then the cabaret. A word of warning though, avoid the "MagMagic" show if you're an animal lover, they aren't quite as sensitive as the British are about use of animals, and some people were a bit offended by the way the animals were treated.
Also the evening entertainment at weekends was aimed more at the Spanosh who come for the weekend.
The piano bar was very relaxing too.
Drinks were reasonably priced, particularly in happy hour, from 8-9pm every night.
The only real problem was the food, I'd say it was edible rather than fantastic, not really good enough for a 4 star hotel. There was a lot of fish, so you might think differently if you were a real seafood fan! A lot of dishes were not labelled, which was a bit of a problem, and where they were labelled the translations weren't always great!
But there was lots of it, and you would always be able to find something you liked. I think a lot of it was aimed more at the French-speaking guests, who were in the majority. There were Gala and Oriental theme nights too, which were a nice change!
The rooms were good, ours had a double and a single, a decent sized balcony and nice bathroom, it was all very clean. There was a safe you could hire use of from reception.
There were several pool tables and mini-golf, and also a kids play area and football pitch, so plenty for kids to do.
The nearest supermarket is the Champion, head out of the main door and go straight on (instead of going right to head towards the town), cross a bridge and it's right there.
Tossa is a gorgeous resort, nice little shops and restaurants. I'd recommend climbing Vila Vella, go up from the back (ie, not the path from the beach) as it's a nicer walk, then walk down onto the beach. It's a bit of a climb, so don't do it in the middle of the day. But it's not too strenuous, old people and a guy on crutches were there the same day as us!
If you go to Waterworld you have to ask for a bus ticket to Lloret (it's free if you're going to waterworld) and then get the free Waterworld bus from there. We bought our tickets from the reps, it was the same price as the tickets at the park and you got the free bus ticket too.
The bus to Barcelona was 16 euros return, you have to specify a return time when you buy your ticket. You can also but the Barcelona tour bus tickets at Tossa bus station (you get a 10% discount, bringing price down to 14.40 euros.)
Don't get off at Barcelona bus station, wait until the next stop, it's more central.
The boats along to Lloret and other resorts are about every half hour, but don't run much after 5pm, so watch out for that! It's worth a trip though.
Overall it was a wonderful hotel (the best on the costa brava and dorada according to the reps!) and I'd definitely go back, so don't let the comments about the food put you off! You'll have a great time there!

| said: We went to this hotel just 4 months after it opened and it was truly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in in our lives.
The air conditioning had stopped working, so the whole hotel was blistering hot and virtually un-barable to sleep in, The poolside (outside was full of broken glass, dirt and rubbish etc, the spa area and indoor pool was full of hairs, grit, dirt, and even dirty nappies!
The hotel staff when asked anything were always too busy to help us, not at all friendly!
Our room had a family of cockroaches living on the balcony which looked out onto the main road and building site, and our room was only cleaned once in a week (the day we vacated it!), so we had to go into the public toilets in reception to pinch a toilet roll every time ours ran out, the receptionist when told said we're dealing with it!
As for the food, well if pork Knuckle and cold chips (5 mins after the resturant opened) take your fancy then you'll be alright, but otherwise it's the night befores cakes for breakfast and the same menu every night.
As for entertainment.....What entertainment, the single entertainer told us that the other 11 entertainers had quit, so it was just him for spanish bingo every night.
Thomson reps... what can I say....Absolutely hopeless, if there at all!
Good points, there was a spectacular storm, roads, cars, a car park and fronts of shops washed away by the raging river and tidal waves never even seen before by the locals, what a sight, needless to say the only photos we've got are of the storm!
Rest assured, we wont ever go there again.
It's RUBBISH!!!

| said: I went to Tossa 12 years ago and swore I'd go again. So I took the wife with me, and we weren't sure about staying in a new hotel.
First of all, let's get the minus point done. There were some works going on opposite the hotel front, so that didn't bother us (Pool view), but there were works going on the other side as well (not major - just noisy), but I daresay they are finished now, so don't worry about it.
We go there about 4AM and were stunned by the size of the place, particularly the big airy reception area with all that glass, and when lit up it was beautiful and spotless. All memebrs of the reception team spoke good English (what a relief as my Spanish isn't up to much), and they were incredibly helpful.
Up on the 2nd floor with a lovely pool view, we threw the cases on the beds and sat on the balcony to admire the view. Even at that ungodly hour it was nice.
Apart from the wife having a 5 hour nose bleed from the moment we got into the room, things went without a hitch (pretty much) from there.
FOOD.
Breakfast was a bit of a free for all and it took a bit of getting used to what was where in this huge dining room (spotless). But by day 3 were we into everything.
Main Meals were nice, but being a bit of a fussy eater, I tended to stick to the things I recognised (chicken etc), but when I got adventurous, even the things I'd never eaten before were nice.
The waiters/waitresses were running around like there was no tomorrow to keep everyone happy, and I think they managed it really well.
ROOM
Spotless. Excellent room facilities (particularly the coffee/tea things (still take my own tea bags, coffee and sweeteners mind you). It's just a shame there was no room for the tray with the kettle etc on to sit on the desktops. We eventually found it in one of the drawers. Maids seemed to be on the go all day.
There are vending machines on every floor by the lifts. They serve bottle of cold water, sweets, vrisps and you can even get ice.
POOL
Fantastic
INDOOR SECTION
Gym Sauna, massage, pool. You name it and it's there (within reason). Once again, spotless.
PIANO BAR
My favorite part of the hotel. The table service there was brilliant. After a day or 2, the staff got to know me and the wife and what we drank. They were really good. The guy playing the piano (sometimes the guitar) palyed a brand of music that was relaxing, and looking out onto the lit swimming pool from the bar or on the terrace) with the music playing was a joy. My only complaint was that thr music from the main concert hall could get a bit loud, and could sometimes be heard in the piano bar.
LOCATION
The hotel is only 10 - 15 miutes walk to the beach. A leisurely stroll through the main streets of Tossa brought back memories of the last time I was there. Obviously things have changed (a little busier), but the place still has it's charm, as well as loads of good places to eat.
ENTERTAINMENT
The wife and I don't go much for laid on entertainment,as we tend to wander around at our own pace, but it was noticeable how hard the entertainers (various nationalities) were working to keep everyone happy. The reps were excellent and earn every penny/euro they get.
We went on a Barcelona trip and it was far too much travelling on a bus in that heat. that is one thing I won't do again. We were off and on all day with just shorts stops to take breaks except for a couple of hours break to take in Las Ramblas.
It's 3 in the morning now, and can't be bothered to spell check. So I'm sorry for any errors or bits I've missed out. But I hope you find this useful.
