| said: Altona Hotel - the worst hotel I have ever stayed in- I echo the other report and wish, oh how I wish, I had read it first.
All that the previous correspondant says is true - dirty, smelly, fire doors propped open; dangerous wiring; radiators leaking; temperamental lift.
Inability of the staff to cope with more than 6 people in for 'breakfast' - 1/3 of a baguette, 1 croissant, a plastic cup of weak orange juice, 1 mediocre coffee served in the cellar.
Never even think about going there. Avoid like the plague

It was featured on BMI Baby travel extras site, and after booking flights to Paris, carried on and booked this hotel. The description and pictures of hotel bore little resemblance to the reality of staying there.
When the description said a beautiful 19th century building with many original features, I did not take it to mean it would look as if it hadn’t been decorated since 19th century.
Although the reception area was reasonable and had been modernised, the vending machines for drinks etc, in reception were broken. The lift was very temperamental, but we did manage to work out that if you pressed 2 buttons at same time it would work better. There were many electrical fittings loose and hanging off walls, I would suggest that fire safety was totally ignored, fire doors non-existent or wedged open.
The bedrooms were small, dirty with damp patches and peeling paper. The mattresses were totally worn out, and although the sheets were clean, the bedspread was dirty.
The "white" towels supplied were hard and grey.
Entertainment category did not apply, unless you count what we thought were permanent residents in the adjoining room shouting at each other.
Each morning the breakfast consisted of half a baguette, a croissant, pat of butter, pat of jam, tea or coffee, and an orange juice.
Why did we not walk out, well we had paid, we did not know where else to go as we arrived late at night, and most of staff spoke little English or seemed not to understand if any comment was made at reception. Although I do speak a little French, it was not enough to make any impact. So we survived it all, by leaving the hotel each day early in morning and not returning to late at night.
The only positive thing I can say is that the hotel is easy to find being only a 5min walk from Gard Du Nord station.
On our return we did complain to Bmi, but got no response at all. (It does say in their small print all complaints must be made at hotel at time of stay)
