What The Brochures Say:
Thomson Summer Sun 2004
Near a sandy beach, the Siestamar Apartments are ideal for families. The complex is in two parts, both with pools. The Siestamar 2 is the hub of the complex and suits those after a lively holiday. The Siestamar 1 is across the road and is more relaxed.

We stayed in the siestamar2. The napartment was clean and the facilities very good. The bedrooms had ceiling fans which is perfectly adequate. The Reception clean and staff very friendly and helpful.
It has 3 swimming pools the main pool then a meter depth and a paddling pool, there is also a pool with 2 waterslides going in the area is clean and plenty of sunbeds (kept locked at night and opened at around 9am. There is plenty of shade if wanted uner the pergoda. Plenty to do pool tables laser hockey etc. There is a laundrey and internet access. There is day and evening activities. The apartments have a free bus to beach and back 4 times a day. (Not to bad going but trying to climb the 180+ steps is tiring)I couldnot find any fault at all with any part of the holiday. I would definetly return. Even my Husband who normally would not go back said he would return there. Only a 20 - 30 min ride from Mahon it makes it ideal for a family holiday.

Just returned from Siestamar Apartments 1 Calan Porter, Minorca. Apartments well positioned and pleasantly surprised how spacious they are, cleanliness is no worse than anywhere else we have visited it was of an acceptable level. There is a charge for sunbeds on Siestamar 1 which I feel is quite excessive they are free on Siestamar 2 but there are clearly not enough to go round and despite there being signs up asking for them not to be reserved this was clearly ignored. The Thomson Kids club reps were fantastic my 7yr old had a fantastic time spent between there and the Water Slides in Siestamar 2. The hotel entertainment was poor. found hotel staff pleasant and helpful.

Was particularly pleased to be staying in Siestamar 1 as we heard a no of apartments in Siestamar 2 were subject to break-ins and thefts. The only downside to the apartment we were in was it was near to the road and was quite noisy at night.

The apartments were sufficient, clean enough and spacious, but furniture quite tired and could do with a refurbishment. Apartment was cleaned and linen changed every 2 or 3 days which was great.

We stayed in Siestamar I because we knew it would be quieter and are so glad! Only choose Siestamar II if you are happy with loud music until midnight. Pool area was also much quieter and ideal for kids in I.

Children loved the KidZone club best. The children's reps were excellent(especially Krazy Kim)and children were always desperate to return, loads of different activies were on offer 5 days/wk and 2 or 3 nights.

Would recommend this place to families looking for a good self-catering holiday close to the beach with 2 good pool areas and plenty of entertainment and shops.

Hotel has a great location (even though resort is very small).

Found reception staff very helpful. Bar and restaurant staff very ingnorant (Spanish and English) and not happy at work at any time during our 14 nights there. Hence the reason we never ate in restaurant. Drink very expensive, no happy hour or promotions to entice you to stay in complex.

Kids club was excellent and staff were very helpful and pleasant even off duty. 2 girls has tears in eyes on the day we left (and want to move to menorca, sign of a great holiday). Mini Disco was poor, same songs every night and only lasted half an hour, when kidzone reps did the disco you noticed the difference.

La Paissa is the place to go for live tribute bands, excellent!!!!!

Would stay in this again if we ever went back to Menorca but don't think we would go back because of the weather we had rain for one full day and night and two half days and two cloudy days only went for a week.

The hotel location was very good could be a bit noisy a really nice beach even with the steps the price of the sunbeds on the beach was terrible though 17 euros for two for a day.

Only went to the pool twice as it got to full the rooms were clean we only booked 4 days before and we could have slept 8 in our room.

Just returned from the Siestamar apartments and oh so glad.

Hotel grounds and pool kept clean but rooms really dirty the kitchen tops and floors very greasy. The bed was very uncomfortable had to get them to clean the room again before we unpacked.

We had to eat in the restaraunt as we were half board and staff treat us like we on free meals really horrible and didnt get starters or deserts offered at all.

The sunbed issue is a problem we had to go for 9am to get one as not enough to go round, I feel that this place would be ok to go self catering but are not geared up for half board basis unless you like fried breakfasts and chips.

Will not be going again and that was the feed back we also got from people who we met and spoke to whilst there, the only good thing was the pools and the people who we met - HELLO TO YOU ALL.

We found that the staff were really nice especially the Thompson rep girls !!

The resort itself was lovely although the cleaners were not very friendly and did not clean the appartments properly.

The entertainment was good in the main bar but the night life round there was good too, would defintely visit again.

Siestemar 1 Apartments were excellent.

All apartments had 2 balconies one at the back catching the morning sun and one at the front catching the afternoon.

The rooms were clean and the hotel cleaners did a good job.

The kitchen was small but adequate. Overall good.

The Siestemar 1 was definitely the quieter of the two. Eve entertainment at 2 not quite Broadway but the children enjoyed it.ok.

Receptionists very helpful.

Waiting staff in restaurant-Poor! Took half board option for 4 days, very flexible, could be used at anytime during stay, having a breakfast one day and an evening meal the next and so on.

3 Euros for a sun bed at S1 free at S2 (very busy, problems with guests reserving beds). Pool cleaned daily. Tidy and safe. Sprinkler system a little loud early am.

Just returned from a week in Menorca and had booked at the Siesta Mar 2. Only spent 2 1/2 days there as we were all evacuated for 'health and safety' reasons. The two days we were there were very pleasant with lots for the kids to do although the supermarkets across the road were basically empty which was most inconvenient for a self catering holiday.

This is general in Menorca at this time of year and would not recommend this pleasant Island for the last week of the season. Thomson never did explain properly why we were evacuated but what I do know is the hotel manager was very upset by the whole event and the Thomson reps did not handle the situation very well at all

Not sure this will be in the Thomson brochure next year

No problem at this time of year for sunbeds, so a good time to go.

The accommodation is basic but as we just slept in it, it was fine for us.

The nightly entertainment is fantastic for the kids, mini disco and professional dancers and Disney extracts from a few of the better known classics.

Great time and we'd definitely go back for another week.

Went to Siestamar apartments for our first abroad family holidays.

I would recomend the place to everyone. First day it was raining but that still did not stop us having fun.

The day we were due to leave was acctually quite upsetting cos my mum & I really enjoyed it.

It was sunny till the last day when it rained but overall it was exellent my younger brother & sister & me all went to kids club and enjoyed it.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I would rate it 10 because it was a holiday to remember.

Apartment we stayed in was ground floor/2 bed. Pretty basic but reasonably clean.

Only real complaint about apt was beds - uncomfortably soft, dirty, sheets slip off constantly and creaky. Could do with investment of entirely new beds. Communal areas spotless, pool very clean every day.

Restaurant was pretty good, very convenient and beautiful pasta. Apartments are in the middle of everything - restaurants, supermarkets, bars and the beach only short walk (and steps!)away.

Staff were brilliant, reception could help with anything you needed, perfect English spoken everywhere.

Entertainment was very good but a bit like 'Groundhog Day', started feeling a bit trapped in repetitive world towards the end!

Overall wonderful holiday (it was also our honeymoon) especially for our two kids - 7 and 9, also relaxing despite the high season.

We stayed in a top floor apartment which was not very clean,(especially the kithen area which had very greasy sticky surfaces) all masked by spraying the curtains an funishing with perfumed deodoriser as we witnessed after we eventually got the cleaners to come to our apartment after getting the towels and sheets ourselves.

The waiters in the dining/entertainment area argued on numerous occassions and almost came to blows right behind us, we also witnessed the manager telling the receptionist off in public, there are not many happy staff there at all which cannot be said for the Thomsons Reps who were quite friendly and helpfull.

There is quite a good pool area, unfortunately it is virtually impossible to get a sunbed. the hotel revolves around catering for children,

The location is very good for access to the supermarkets, beach (which is down about 180 steps) and the resort centre.

If you go to this hotel take earplugs and dont expect to get any peace and quiet (day or night) because it definately won't happen.

Stayed in 3 bed apartment next to road, very noisey at night. Supermarket opposite very handy. Not too impressed with our room, no sheets on 2 beds (1st night), one double bed made up of a single and camp bed put together. Everything you touched in kitchen was sticky.

Not enough sunbeds at all, you will have to queue for them by 8.50am to have any chance off getting one( the pool area is opened to anyone including all the local lads). The pools are split into 3, very safe for young kids. Would not bother with food during the day, unless you want a 3 course meal the waiters did not want to know, get food and drink from supermarket opposite (good bakery inside).

Evening entertainment was good for the kids, the little time we stayed there, but was always busy.

The sunbed situation was our biggest complaint (found ourselves queuing with most other people) and no air conditioning in our apartment.

The apartments were clean and roomy plenty of Spar's to get your food from and staff were helpful along with reps.

Kids loved the Kids club.

Only problem was the sun beds at the pool. You had to be there by at least by 9a.m.to get a bed.

Have been going to the Siestamar for the last ten years with the family and found it to be first class with the staff and the managment and the reps.

The rooms are cleaned 3 times a week with clean sheets twice a week. The bar staff are very good at there jobs as well as the waiters. The food at the complex is good but do find it abit pricey . The best place to go is the Salamandra you get a 3 course meal with wine for 12euros . All the restaurants in the town will do you a good meal.

The Siestamar is in a good spot with 2 shops just across the road . They are well stocked for a self catering holiday. The town is only 5 minutes walk away, but the beach is down a lot of steep steps.

The entertainment is great with the kids being kept busy all the time. The night time entertainment is great with mini disco and bingo. Then its time for the adults.

The shows end at midnight so overall we find it a good family holiday . Thats why we have been going there for the last 10 years and again this year.

We stayed in siestamar 2, the hub of the complex and was self catering, and must say the apparment was very well presented and tidy. the appartment was quite basic, but catered for all our needs.
The food at the hotel was not all that expensive, but must say was not that impressed with the food it'self.
Also be warned.. the deserts look alot bigger in the menues!
The hotel staff were nice, the reps were nutters!,especialy one of them..
The entertainment is excellent for familys. There is so much for the kids to do, but not very ideal for couples. Was not very pleased about the sunbed situation, especialy when towels were left on them during the night to reserve their place in the morning. All in all would not wish to stay at the complex again.. But thumbs up to the reps.

Siestamar Apartments are in two separate complexes divided by a road.

The main block 'Siestemar 2' is right opposite 2 supermarkets and close to the village centre, which is handy for food and entertainment. However, can be noisy till late in the evenings.

'Siestemar 1' is further away from the centre, has its own pool and probably quieter. We stayed at edge of 'Siestemar 2' which backed onto Sa Paissa resturant/bar/accommodation complex with entertainment loud late at night. We would not wish to stay in that particular complex again.

The apartment blocks were no more than 3 stories high. Our 3rd floor studio was quite basic but well maintained and fairly comfortable for a couple.

Beach is reached by road or via 200 steps with resting places. Siestemar runs a minibus to and from the beach or you can use the road'train' for a few Euros.

There appears to be lots of things for kids to do at the complex and entertainment for them in the evenings.

Recently come back from Siestamar 2 and must say had a great time.

I never thought staying in a small resort (Cala'n Porter) would be up my street but i was proved wrong, there were enough decent restaurants to go to such as ..The Castle, Sa Paissa, El Pupo etc.. if not eating in the apartment complex and all catered well for kiddies also and also a few bars to have a few late light ales also.

At Siestamar 2 the nightly entertainment for the adults was good i'd say 10 times out of 14 so on average that wasn't bad and the entertainers for the kiddies were excellent........Ricco, Olivia and Veronica were on a different level to other hotels childrens entertainers and were permanantly hyperactive which the kids loved, there were also kids clubs (saviours) throughout the day between 10am-12pm, 1pm-3pm, 4pm-6pm and 7:00pm - 8:30pm.
In the day there was the usual games throughout the day for adults & kids, such as Killer-pool, Archery, shooting, waterslide races, Football matches (not good in 120 degrees..i can assure you !!) water-polo etc..

The pools at Siestamar 2 are good for adults and kids but be warned about the demand for sunbeds, gets a bit busy down there at 9am !!

The coved beach is also very nice with a few bars, restaurants but beware it is down 190 odd steps so not for the elderly or those with buggies although Siestamar does run a courtesy bus (mini-bus) to and from the resort.

All in all it gets the thumbs up from me as the wife a nd kids had a great time, will go back.
