This apartment has seen better days. The best description is tatty. The fridge had been hand painted and was showing signs of rust. Cleaning consisted of emptying the rubbish bin.

If you get a room overlooking the main road you have no chance of a quiet, peaceful or relaxing holiday.

Having requested a quiet room on booking, on arrival, every day thereafter, the reception staff were not interested in our problem.

Please be aware that Direct Holidays have stopped offering this apartment.

Stayed in these apartments this month (Aug 2005). Can be very noisy if you have a road side apartments - 8 of us went, only 1 could not sleep - tip: get a fan and a shut the windows.

Staff were excellent and extremely friendly.

Food & drink very good and very cheap.

Sunbeds were only a problem a few times, but went to the great beach these days.

Kid club was fab.

Would recommend these to anyone and would definitely go back.

We went at the beginning of the season and found everything clean, quiet and friendly.

We don't have children, but the kids around seemed to be having a lovely time.

The pool area was fantastic for kids. There's a room with pool tables and video games as well as internet access.

The beach has a great play area towards the back of it, which was always buzzing with children, and really close to the apartments.

I think it is a perfect place for couples and young children, but maybe not for those with teenagers who'd want more to do than play in the pool.

The Ibiza Apartments are split into 2 blocks, the new block of apartments and the old block, situated above shops and restraunts. We were in the old block in a 2 bed roomed apartment with 2 kids, 8 and 3 years old.

The apartment was very basic and dated but was quite big with 2 huge balconies. The fact that it was basic did not bother us but other people were quite shocked at it’s lack of toaster, microwave etc and that it was “well worn”. Most things could be hired however.

Our apartment overlooked the funfair and main road. The funfair was no problem at all as it closed somewhere around 11pm. The main problem was locals flying around the resort on motorbikes at night. Not your usual moped or monkey bikes, but more like scramble or trials bikes. These were an absolute nightmare and the riders seemed intent on ruining everyone’s holiday. They would race around the resort and the noise they made was hard to believe.

This meant it was impossible (and I mean impossible) to sleep with the windows or balcony open. As it was so hot and muggy on a night we hired a fan (we took a smaller desk fan for the kids) and kept everything shut. This cut down the noise from outside but what about people who didn’t want to hire a fan?

The staff at the apartments were excellent. The pool area was also very good and this is where we spent most of our time. It had a real family atmosphere and we met loads of smashing people.

The Direct Holidays kids club was all but winding down. The week before they claimed to have over 40 kids attending, but at times there was only a couple of kids in there. Although the club reps were very nice it wasn’t hard to tell they’d had a long hard season and at times looked a little uninterested. Another disappointing thing was having to pay for some activities in the club. 4 or 5 euros (per child) on some sessions to take the kids to the shops and fill them full of sweets!! Add to this the session times changed every day so it was difficult to keep track

Cala Llonga itself was a big disappointment, there is no way it can be described as a family resort. If your idea of fun is stopping your kids from knocking over your drinks then you will have a great time here. Other than air hockey or pool there was not a bar that had a single thing for kids. There was not a play area, ball pit, bouncy castle etc in sight.

There was a playground on the beach with climbing frames, swings, slides etc but this doesn’t keep kids happy for 2 weeks. Also the funfair was there but this cost money, money, money.

Every family I spoke to (and there was a lot) said the same thing – nothing for kids. However, it was definitely more suited to retired couples. Many of them returned year after year and loved the place. They did seem to think just because it had a small park on the beach and a funfair (£££££ remember) that it was great for kids. Believe me – it isn’t!!!

The beach had great potential but we had days where you had to wade through thick murky seaweed to get into the sea, and on the odd occasion jelly fish came for a look around. I believe this could happen anywhere so maybe we were unlucky.

We made the best of the situation and still had a good holiday. But at times it was very, very testing. It seems unfair to blame the Ibiza apartments for Cala Llongas downfalls but the noise from the motorbikes was appalling and the lack of things for the kids to do was disappointing to say the least.. Hopefully something will be done about the local racers and maybe the bars will take a leaf out of San Antonio Bay or Playa den Bossas book and find something other than pool for kids. I’ve seen a Little Tykes playhouse keep children entertained in a bar for ages- so it isn’t asking the world. Other than that, the tour operators should maybe stop calling Cala Llonga a family resort.
