| said: Gokcen Hotel, Marmaris. We are very regular vistors to Turkey and have travelled the country extensively, visiting Marmaris on numerous occaions. Unfortunately the hotel we normally stay in was fully booked so decided to book into Gokcen as it was the same price. Never ever again would I stay there nor recommend it. It was filthy. We have stayed in very cheap hostels all over the world and I can say this is the dirtest and most unfriendly place. I should have done what my instincts told me and left immediatly but didn't. I can confirm what other reports say. Dirty rooms, filthy bathrooms, towels that I would not have washed the floor with, cockery and utensils that were too dirty to use. After three nights we decided we could no longer stay and decided to move to another hotel. The owner was away at the time and when my husband went to settled our bill with the owners brother he became very agressive towards him. We decided to walk to our new hotel as it was close by and upon leaving we were followed. This I found extremelly frightening and totally unacceptable. While we were checking into the new hotel the owners brother from the Gokcen appeared and although the conversation was in Turkish between himself and the manager of the new hotel it was very obviously agressive. I have never been so relieved to leave a hotel and have always found Turkish people to be very friendly and helpful expect in this instance.

| said: I have been in Turkey 8 times now and this is by far the worse hotel I have stayed in. The bannister was actually falling off of the stairs whilst walking up it. The corridors were so dark as the lights did not come on until the evening (no windows either). I arrived early saturday morning and my bathroom was filthy, I asked the owner and 2 of the workers for it to be cleaned. Finally the cleaner did it on Wednesday. Also, after cleaning my room she left my room door wide open all day - I was at the beach and did not get back to the room until 6pm that evening. The breakfast was disgusting too. Cutlery filthy, dishes filthy, tables filthy.
The owner walked about with a dirty vest on the whole week and quite frankly couldn't have cared less about anything.
In fact, me and my friends got lost one day and asked the workers in a bar directions - their answer "no, no, the Inspector of tourism closed that hotel down a long time ago"!! I rest my case.

| said: Arrived at hotel and from the outside it looked presentable enough and the pool area was good. However the room was a different matter. On entering you noticed that it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. The bathroom was dirty and smelly. Bed linen was only changed after requesting fresh towels. One or two of the staff were approachable but the others were not interested. We were told that we could only bring water to the pool if we bought it from the hotel bar. The price of this water was three times the price of that at the local supermarket. No entertainment was arranged other than a Turkish night which we did not attend but heard it was a bit of a disaster. Some of the local traders even asked how we ended up staying there. Food was very basic. The standard of cleanliness didn't even extend to reception were you could see dust under chairs and tables and stains on the floor in areas were food was eaten. When we were packing to go home we had to be careful not to leave the room cleaner than we found it. Have read various reviews and have agreed with most of them but the ones who gave this hotel a favourable review must have been high on drugs or something because they really weren't at the saame place we were. No we won't be back to this hotel!!!

| said: My mam and dad and my oldest daughter and my uncle all travelled 2 turkey 4 2 weeks stayed at the gokcen hotel. myself my partner and my 15month old daughter flew out and stayed at the gokcen 4 the 2nd week of there holiday. when we arrived the staff were very friendly. They showed us to are room.the room was very basic with a single bed and a double bed. we were very dipointed with the hotel my parents room had about 2 inches of dust on there tv in bedroom which was still there the day we left they never changed bedding are towles we had to help ourselfes to everything includin toilet rolls. pool was clean the pool was only seemed 2 have bottles of there local beer. there spirit bottles were empty. I would never visit the gokcen nor turkey again even if some one payed me to.

| said: You need to gauge the calibre of person writing a review on a hotel, I consider my self to be middle of the road and well travelled. I have stayed in many hotels both for business and pleasure.
The Gokcen hotel is the worst hotel I have every stayed in, the standard of cleanliness is non existent. The rooms are filthy due to never being cleaned. In the ten nights we stayed there the beds were never changed, we had to ask for clean linen, towels and toilet rolls. It would seem that the hotel is run for the staff and not for the guests as all they seemed to do was watch TV read papers, and play on the computer.
Of all of the staff only one seemed to be friendly and wished to help with any complaint.
All the negative comments made by others are TRUE; they do not allow you water in your rooms etc.
On the positive side the pool is large and was clean although there were no sun umbrellas to shade you from the intense heat, the breakfast was almost adequate. The hotel is in a fairly good location and quiet at night, the room had a nice balcony although the table and chairs were broken.
I know this is a damming review, but I would not stop at the Gokcen hotel again if it were FREE. Spend a bit extra and get yourself a clean hotel as there are many in Marmaris that have a high standard of cleanliness and friendly customer service.

| said: This hotel was just fantastic! clean, cheap and full of character! the rooms are basic yet have everything you need with spacious and sunny balconies. the pool was always clean and in the sun all day and acted as a great way to cool down from the turkish sun.
the employees of this hotel made our stay and made us feel very welcome and appreciated.
the hotel is just off the main road with means its close to all the action yet quiet in the evenings.
we all had an amazing time and are looking forward to returning next year!

| said: Myself and my friends stayed in the Gocken for 1 week and we were totally disgusted with the lack of maid service. I had my bed sheets changed once and that was after having to ask two days in a row. We had to constantly ask for clean towels and toilet rolls also. The rooms were dirty on arrival and were not cleaned the whole week we were there, I even had to empty the toilet roll bin daily in my toilet and leave the rubbish outside my room door.
The location of the hotel was satisfactory and the food was good.
The staff were friendly enough but were less than helpful when my friends purse went missing at the pool area.
There was no entertainment except music being played far too loud at the pool during the day which was not suitable for all age groups as it was prodominantly rapp music.
I can safely say that although it wasnt exspensive I would much rather have paid a few extra pounds and stayed in clean accomodation.
Myself and my friends have no intension of returning to the Gocken I am sorry to say. However we will return to Marmaris.

| said: We found the Gocken Hotel very sufficient for the price we paid for the 7 nights. All the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The Bar was reasonably priced and always manned. Our bedroom consisted of a small wetroom, reasonable sized balcony and a good size bedroom with a double and single bed. The beds were made every day aswell as the cleaners tidying the rooms. As we are a messy couple (Laura) we often left clothes allover the place and rushed out. When we returned they were always picked up folded and arranged on the single bed. We didnt see much entertainment but there was always plenty of CD'S next to the stereo in the Bar. Overall we were happy with the Hotel. After all You only need a place to sleep and wash whilst on holiday.

| said: Booked as a last minute deal we didn’t expect 5* conditions, but we were gob smacked when we stayed here.
We have stayed in a number of similar resorts and lower *rating hotels, in a number of countries and this is officially the worst.
We did not have our rooms cleaned once and after asking on a number of occasions to have clean bedding and towels, we let ourselves in to the maids room to get our own and change our own beds,
(this was the same for everyone at the hotel that we spoke to)
The 2 maids sat outside their room smoking all day !!!
We had to ask at reception for toilet roll and on almost all occasions were asked what it was for !!!!!!!!!!
All of the people that were at the hotel were very disappointed, those that were with a better tour operator moved hotels
2 of the staff quit while we were there as the management ore terrible, one of the managers is constantly, brushing past all of the women and young girls, even after complaints from parents and the women he did not stop, this happens mainly around the pool and the pool bar!
We booked a self catering holiday and on arrival were informed that there were no rooms available and we were put in a B&B room, we were shouted at by staff on a number of occasions for taking large bottles of water, crisps or any other snacks up to the room, they stressed that everything in the hotel had to be bought from the hotel.
The food was terrible and expensive, compared to some of the excellent restaurants further down the road; the drinks prices were more expensive than in some of the nightclubs.
I would not stay here ever again; the only thing that made the holiday bearable was the company I was with and the fact that everyone at the hotel had no choice but to laugh it off!

The staff are so very helpful & we felt at home, it was like a fantastic family atmosphere.
With reference to lise comment'there are more than two members of staff speaking english' & they are all very helpful, kind & friendly even when they have to deal with drunks & loud music until early hours.
I would definately reccomend this hotel for everyone, & mainly family people.
We will be going again with friends & family & the hotel is a 5 minute walk fromt the beach & has a restaurant next door, the hotel also makes great food.
The best part of the holiday was the hotel & the staff members.
They had turkish nights at the hotel, breakdancers & lots of other fab entertainment.

All aspects of this hotel are above average, all staff are very friendly and helpful they do everything in their power with one aim in mind - guest comfort and enjoyment - the beds and towels are changed daily the pool and pool area are immaculate and spacious as is the rest of the hotel - you can inspect any area at any time day or night - there is also 24 hour security
Food is mainly a snack style menu but you can order anything you fancy on a morning and it will be served at the time you request be of excellent quality well presented and exceptional value in very pleasent surroundings
The location is very good just near the edge of the centre not at the back of the resort in Armutalan as some people will lead you to believe
Taxis are cheap dolmus cheaper and both are reliable
We spoke to other guests in particular 2 elderly women and a family of 4 who were of the same mind as us - there were other guest we met in passing who also praised the the hotel\staff

The staff were really friendly, the hotel really clean and the food fantastic.
Unfortunatly for use the Yasmin has now changed hands but we still meet Ali and Fahti at their bar restaurant when we visit Marmaris twice a year. The really good news is Ali and Fahti are now at the Gokcen hotel / apart from this summer season and 6 of use have booked to go this year as we know they will take there excellent qualities with them
I would like to think that holidaymakers will give the Gokcen a chance because of the superb hospitality and friendlyness shown to use and not about the gokcen about the Gokcen pre 2004

| said: I visited Gokcen Marmaris with my wife, my son and my brother and his family and another family. In all there were 6 adults, four teenyboppers, and four children, and not one had a complaint, the Gokcen is suitable for all ages.
The staff are amazing always ready to help.
The location is perfect not busy not too quiet.
Everthing kept clean and tidy, fresh towels and bedding everyday.
Pool great size always clean as were apartments.
We cannot say enough good things about the Gokcen, will be going back for sure as the staff really made our holiday.

Apartments are large, clean and recently decorated. Ignore old comments as new management are excellent. Family orientated and very friendly.
Pool is large and spotless not a single problem with the usual ear bugs for any of us. Poolside food is very high quallity and reasonably priced.
I was with two other famlies aged 5 – 45 and none of us had any complaints!
Hotel is 10 mins walk from beech and 1 min from bus stop ... local buses are fab! 40pence wherever you want to go and run every 5 mins.
I will be returning again!

| said: I have stayed in the Gokcen hotel about 6 times in the last two years. I have stayed there 4 times in one year and met many people there who also have been back over and over again.
The Gocken hotel is 3 star as stated and it not meant to be 5 star so people that put on reviews are going on like it should be 5 star.
The maid cleaned my room every other day, there was always clean towels and my bed was always made. Each day I went to the pool I seen the maid always cleaning rooms. They are of basic standard and aren't posh and you pay for what you get. I don't clean my bed everyday at home and I don't wash my towels every day at home so I don't see why people seem to think that on holiday the staff are meant to clean and strip beds every day.
Staff were really lovely in this hotel and I don't understand how anyone can say staff were not at all interested in its guests and they weren't friendly.

| said: The most recent time I stayed in this hotel was October 2004, although me and my friends have visited
twice before this. We found the hotel to be perfectly clean and the room was tidy although basic.
The staff at the hotel were lovely, friendly and always willing to help.
The pool area was also clean and the pool was cleaned daily.
Anybody who has a problem with this hotel should be paying the prices for the high standard they expect. If you expect to stay in 5 star hotels they should pay for 5 star hotels. This was perfectly fine for 3 star and we found no problems at all, any of the 4 times we stayed.
I would stay in this hotel again without a doubt, the hotel and the staff made our holiday.

| said: This was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. There was no hot water for the whole week and when we complained about this the hotel staff did not care at all.
The room was filthy, especially the bathroom - the shower curtain looked as if it had not been cleaned for months and the toilet was disgusting, with the seat hanging off.
Went down for breakfast on the first morning and was not impressed. You could not tell the difference between tea and coffee - as far as I could tell, it was a mixture of both.
We tried to see the tour rep for the whole of our stay and made several phonecalls to the Goldtrail offices in Marmaris and the UK and we eventually saw the rep about 2 hours before we departed from the hotel and he did not care one bit.
The hotel was supposed to be 3 star but there is no way it comes even close to 3 star - I am sure that my dogs kennel accommodation was of a better standard.
I would recommend never to travel with Goldtrail Travel. When I returned home I wrote to Goldtrail to complain and received a letter back stating that they have never had a complaint about the Gokcen hotel until my one and they believe the standard of the hotel is of a good standard. They even had the cheek to say that they hope we will travel with them again - no way - not if thay were the last tour operator on earth!!

| said: This hotel was the worst hotel we have ever been in. it was supposed to be a 3 star accom; we would class it as a 1 star. This was the hotel from hell as far as we are concerned.
The staff were not friendly at all and could not speak any English or lead us to believe they couldnt, it took 4 days before a rep from gold trail finally came to listen to our complaints, the full week we were there we did not once have a hot shower, when we complained about this we were told to have a shower between 5 and 9 at night tried this still no hot water.
We did not eat anything in this hotel as it was not clean, the rooms were very basic, and there were dirty marks all over the walls not very nice to look at. The pool was very dirty did not see them clean it, and you were not allowed to bring any food or drink even water into this place.
Gold trail should be ashamed to call this a 3 star hotel it is not fit for anyone to be in and this is also the opinion of every one else that was there when we were we would never go anywhere with gold trail again and stay well clear of this hotel.

| said: I suppose I should begin with the hotel cleanliness....there was none. I think I saw a maid once during my week there. Our room wasn't that clean either when we arrived, the bathroom was dirty and smelt horrible I was near sick. One of our balcony doors didn't lock, luckily we were on a high floor. Additionally our door handle of the main door was half hanging off.
Having tried the breakfast provided on our first morning at the hotel we were not impressed and didn't dare try anything else.
The location of the hotel isn't that bad but it is a good wee walk from the beach front were I tend to spend my holiday so I wasn't impressed on the location either.
The staff in the Gocken were rude, unfriendly and unhelpful. I was so shocked at how unfriendly they were as the majority of the Turkish population in Marmaris are extremly friendly and talkative. But this wasn't the case at the Gocken. They even started a verbal fight with us while we were there.

| said: I went to Turkey last September and I stayed in the Gotcen hotel it was horible.
The staff were not very helpful and are room only got cleaned once out of the whole week we were there and that was on the day that we left. Our shower was not warm realy when we went in it.We spent as little time in the hotel as we could the only time we were realy in our room was when we were getting ready and when we went to sleep.
We were not allowed to take any food or drink at all in the hotel we were not even allowed to take water in. The floor in our room was dirty there was mud on it thats how we new that they had never been in to clean the room even when we were out. Our beds were only made once and that was on the second day of us being there.
We never had a meal in the hotel there was a few mornings that we had breakfast but that was not much either all there was, was eggs, bread, cumcumber,tomatoes,jam and butter.
I had an excellent time in Turkey but the hotel was not a 3 star as they say it is. I don't even think it is a 1 star hotel.
I am going back to Turkey this year and I am staying in Marmaris again, but this time I am staying in the Cindy apartments which I knwo will be better than the Gotcen well anything is better than the Gotcen.
I would recommend Marmaris to anyone but I wouldn't recommend staying in the Gotcen I think it should be shut down.

| said: This is by far the worst hotel ever!!! Myself and my fiance just could not believe our eyes when we got off the coach at this hotel.
Goldtrail have a lot to answer for. I would never stay in this hotel again or recommend it to anyone as it was stinking.
The only good thing was that the pool bar staff were very friendly, but everything else was just terrible.
We are returning to Marmaris this year but as far away from the Gokcen as possible!!!
