We were stranded at the airport after being let down by our flight operator, having already spent a week in Palma Nova we were facing another week in mallorca. A quick search online by a friend showed a few options of hotels that open during the winters and this was one of the few still open

A quick trip in a taxi and we were in Magaluf (not my choice of holiday location) at the sol Antillas/Barbados.

Fist impressions. It looked like all the other hotels set on the far side of the beach in a quite end of town. Greeted by a bell boy taking our luggage into reception. As this was an enforced break we couldn't afford must and was pleased to be given very good rates by the hotel, their normal rates were a little pricey.

The room was very nice and cleaned every day. The hotel was well presented and kept clean and well maintained. Due to it being out of season the outdoor pools were closed. The indoor pool and spa were open and we used them every day. The food was great with new dishes every night and the bar prices weren't to high. The hotel laid on daytime activities for guests, we didn't take part so cant comment. The evening entertainment was the only thing to let the hotel down, it was bad and I mean pulling you're teeth out bad. I couldn't stand it so went out for a walk

The weather was warm and we had a great enforced 2nd week in Mallorca. The hotel gets a thumbs up from us.

Magaluf was completely closed, it was a ghost town, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. One day we were the only people on the beach for a few hours, it was fantastic.

This was my first visit to the hotel Antillas, although the room we were given was spotless the location was poor we were on the second floor up above the kitchen. We got a daily smell of the days menu especially when the chip pan was on. Except for that it is a very clean and well situated hotel, they have three large terrapins in the pool at the front foyer and my wife discovered they are very fond of chicken!!!!

There are two exits from the hotel to the beach, one via the swimming pool area [the best one] or outside the foyer and down a very steep slope not recommended if you have walking problems.

The cleaning staffs were very friendly and greeted you every morning, unfortunately the dining room staffs were not so friendly, they were very standoffish, that does not include the dining door attendants they were very nice. I was very surprised that they allowed guests in with shorts and sometimes very scruffy trousers on. It did say on the letter in the room long trousers must be worn in the dining room. I think this should be a strict rule.

The food was top notch, beautiful, plenty of choice, the breakfast was delicious, especially the omelette’s, and cooked by such a lovely smiling assistant. That girl should be head chef; she was so particular that your egg or whatever was to your satisfaction. The dinner was excellent, plenty of choice, and the server was well attended and kept nice and clean, this was probably due to the head waiter who kept a very close eye on everything and everyone, nothing missed his attention.

I would most certainly visit this hotel again, probably because there were very few children in when we were there.

On a final note, we went to Tom Browns for lunch, it is delicious, and plenty to eat, and only 200yds from the pool area. Service is very fast and friendly, and cheap
and clean!!!!!!

I'll be back

We stayed for four nights in the Antillas the Barbados was closed.

We had a lovely room with a side view of the ocean but we were happy with this as we wanted the late afternoon sun.

We found the restaurant to be more like a cafeteria with no tablecovers only paper runners and paper napkins which we found disappointing for a 4 star. The food was okay but uninteresting really, thank goodness they had a microwave. The desserts were excellent though, cannot complain about those.

We found the staff to be helpful, one great plus is you can borrow lovely big beach towels for your stay.

We didnt stay in for the entertainment so cant comment on that.

We would go back if we got a good deal.

We will try to get back to this hotel next year. It was great for my wee boy with the Flintstones theme and with their being 4 swimming pools with access to the beach.

Our room was cleaned every day by very friendly cleaning staff and all staff in the hotel were very friendly especially the young entertainment staff who could speak all languages, even some Russian, put me to shame.

For us this hotel ticked all the boxes!

Go without fear!

Went for 2 weeks to Hotel Barbados and throroughly enjoyed it. Been twice before and this just gets better and better.
Food excellent, especially the kids selection. Pools fantastic and beachfront location absolutely ideal. Will surely be returning next year.
Entertainment seems much improved than in recent years.
Hotel staff friendly and corteous at all times.
Fantastic holiday and would recommend this to families especially.

Think twice before travelling here with children. The kids club was poor for younger children, they lost one of our daughters, luckily auntie found her wandering by the pool. Next day she cut her toe on broken tiles in the children's pool.

Hotel seemed to be popular with stag parties from the UK. After 3 nights of punch ups and noise at 5 am in what was supposed to be a "family hotel in the quiet part of Magaluf" we were very fed up. We called security on a number of occasions as the children were scared by the noise and fighting.

There are better hotels in Majorca and better holiday companies to travel with. Thomson's seem to like changing airlines and times to suit themselves and weren't interested in listening to our complaints.

We stayed in the Antilles/Barbados. The two hotels, despite being a joint operation are very different. We were put in the Antilles. I would say that this isn't really suitable for families, as it was mainly elderly couples during the first week of our fortnight stay. The restaurant is very strict on long trousers for men (not even 3/4 length ones) and no shorts etc. for women. Everyone dresses up for dinner and we felt very conscious of being one of the only families with kids in the restaurant.

However, after being turned away from the Antilles restaurant on the first night with 3/4 length trousers on - nobody told us that we could have eaten in the Barbados which is a very much more relaxed and family-friendly restaurant.

The Barbados is far more suitable for families, and it's here where all the kids clubs and kids evening activities take place.

The animation team are second to none. They looked after our son in the kids clubs and really went out of their way to make him welcome. Can't fault them really!

The pools are excellent, though a bit slippy under foot for toddlers. Warning - you are not allowed to use swim nappies in the kiddies pool. It's either proper swimming costume, or nothing at all! Lifeguard makes you take off swim nappies. Maybe that's just early-season eagerness!!

Food was good - can't say that there was something I particularly liked every evening, but there's always pasta and pizza and chips. Barbados restaurant has a kids buffet - Antilles doesn't.

Son-antillas/barbados excellent location at the quiet end of magaluf. We stayed in the antillas hotel,
Staff especially in the dining room efficient but not friendly (no personel touch).
Thomsond rep very very poor , uninterested when asked to help obtain a birthday cake for a member of our party, told us to speak to head waiter, which we did and a birthday cake was ordered in .
Rooms a good size for 2 people and very clean , so impressed with the maid that we gave her a bottle of wine , towels changed daily, beach towels provided at hotel with a small deposit so saves weight in suitcase.
Food ok not very warm but there is a microwave you can use,a 4 star by magaluf standards by any other resort probably a 3 star.barbados looks great for kids with the flintstones theme.

We originally were not meant to go here as we had booked a holiday in the east coast - Cala d Majorca

As soon as we found out (at the airport - Palma) we where going to Magaluf, we new we'd hate it - boy were we wrong!!!

We stayed at sol Barbados which was about 10 metres away from Magaluf (not far AT ALL) but luckily, it was a quiet part, even though, it was situated near some bars (I would definitely recommend the three bells for food! Though the waffles in Willies are nice too!)

The daytime and nighttime entertainers were very friendly (the blonde man who presents the entertainment of a night is great!) But of a nighttime, some of the entertainment may "irritate" 15 year olds! Though not to worry as there is a good bar called snoopies right behind which has a good mini golf.

Even in the day, there are all activities going on. From 0-100 there will be an activity for you! But if you prefer the more relaxing holiday, have a massage or go into the Jacuzzi in the antilas, if you're the total opposite, go to the gym there!

The food was very good (considering we were on holiday) I would highly recommend for breakfast you have a soft bread roll with a sausage in it and the brown sauce! They do carvaries, a great desert range, and you CAN go to both hotels for meals, but dress in long trousers if you are a man!

The rooms were spotless and the towel's where changed everyday, the bed sheets were changed once or twice in the 2 weeks we stayed.

Though the main disappointment was MAGALUF. Every bar you passed, there would be an advertiser dragging you in and bribing you with free shots. Also, The crowds wold intimidate you (and I myself am a 24 year old woman, so how about that!) by staring you up. It is OK if you go as far as Benny hills (which is about a kilometre, i think(!) but being with a family, me myself , I wouldn't go any further. Saying that, If I were single I would definitely go there!

So all in all, a good holiday.
Though the only reason I wouldn't go again is because of the resort.

We stayed in the Hotel Barbados. Room was excellent with a sea view. Maids kept the room in immaculate condition. The hotel staff were really helpful, coping with the numerous languages across the hotel. There was a great choice of food at both breakfast and evening meal, however, the liquidised vegetable soup every night got a bit repetitive !!! (There were other choices, dont panic) The Barbados swimming pools werent all that special to be honest, however, the pool in the adjoining Antillas hotel was top notch. Very close to the beach - just a five minute walk - and near to the Magaluf action (clubs etc), however, far enough away to be clear of the noise. The Thomas Cook reps were superb. Your rep is based in the hotel over the road in the Marine Barracuda, get friendly with the Travel City Rep who sits next to the Thomas Cook rep, he will give you cheaper waterpark tickets with a child free option - saves a packet !!! I used AVIS car rental - the Avis rep comes out to the hotel to fill out the forms. I asked for a Class B car and got upgraded free to a class H !!!!
Trips - recommend Son Amar - better than four years ago - food good and entertainment brilliant, well, apart from the Drifters !!! The Pirates show has gone off the boil I am afraid to say. Food is very poor, but you are constantly barracked to spend more Euros on Bandana's, flags, swords, beer, etc. Dont bother with the Quarter Deck option either - waste of money, loads of people complaining !

Not a 4 Star hotel by any stretch of the imagination.Food was poor and repetitive for a Sol hotel.Pool areas were scruffy, the side entrance was like a run down inner city tower block and when we were there the restaurant in the Barbados was closed which meant a walk to the Antillas for meals(ok until there was torrential rain all one morning).Entertainment was the same every night, the same acts singing the same songs in the same order.(also all in the Antillas).Non smoking areas were not enforced,so non smokers couldn't avoid the smoke. The location was the best thing about the hotel,a commanding view over the bay.

This was our second year here, previous year was on our honeymoon, we liked it so much we decided to bring our daughter (3) and friends with their kids too this year.

Rooms were very clean and all with air con which is essential, we had requested high floor and sea view which we got and view was beautiful. Food was good and plenty of choice, staff were extremely efficent although did not smile to often.

No need to take any towels with you as plenty in rooms (changed daily) and you can hire beach towel's from reception for about 10 euro, i thought this was excellent as you get to swap it whenever you want for a fresh one.

There are 5 outdoor pools, 2 of which are paddling pools for kids, and also indoor pool and jacuzzi, which is nice and refreshing after a long day outside by pool in the sun.

The beach is about 50 yards from hotel and shops all very near but we never had any problems with noise at nightime atall on either occasions as hotel is far enough away from clubs and pubs.

We would reccommend this hotel and will be going again in the future.

Stayed here in May for a long weekend. Couldn't really fault the place, small niggles only, right on the beach, no roads to cross.

Clean, tidy, breakfast only 2*- (I don't think i've ever had any better than that tho' in a hotel!)

Not very suited for wheelchairs, quite a lot of steps without ramps, but there are lifts.

Short walk to the madness of Magaluf, far enough away to be quiet at night.

A good choice for all types except ones that like a boom boom type evening entertainment on site, plenty of that in town anyway.

We stayed here in May for a few days and had a great time. Our room was clean and comfortable, the choice of food was good, even for our 6 year old son who can be a bit fussy, and the pools were clean and plenty of room.
It's near enough to shops/ bars etc to be convenient, yet far enough so that you don't get the hassle of "surveys" and other pests as soon as you walk out of the front door.
There weren't many children when we stayed, but Steven enjoyed the Kid's Club, and we felt perfectly comfortable to leave him there. The evening entertainment was a bit tame, but we went out into Magaluf, where there is as much variety as you could want only a 5 or 10 minute stroll away.

Excellent location.
Original room we were put in hadn't been refurbished.
After a lot of complaining we were put in one which had and that was a lot better.
Very Spanish based hotel (well you are in they're country) the Magalluf Beach next door is much better for a family holiday.

If you are looking for an hotel in a quiet, picturesque, location with easy access to a (very)lively resort, then the Antillas has to be about the best choice on the island.Set on a headland at the end of Magalluf beach, the hotel has lovely views from all its rooms & extensive terraces. There are a couple of bars across the road from the hotel, and a 15 minute stroll will take you into the centre of Magalluf with its huge selection of entertainment.Staff in the hotel tend to be efficient rather than friendly, but most are fairly helpfull if a little stuffy. Its probably worth noting that the Antillas does not have much in the way of facilities for children,so if thats an issue, you may want to consider its sister hotel, the Sol Barbados, which is immediately adjacent, and has childrens entertainment etc.(check).All in all,a nice hotel which deserves its 4* rating.
