| said: The Hotel Palmyra in Argassi is central and very clean, but it has an unhelpful attitude to guests.
The rooms have 3 different views, side view overlook the car park and road, not very nice to look out on, the rooms with pool view do have a view of the sea but tend to be noisy from the pool bar and road. The best rooms are at the back and overlook countryside. Most of the rooms seem to have double beds so if you are travelling with friends or children who don’t want to share make sure you request single beds, (even so you are not likely to get them). In spite of the fact we booked in January and had adjacent rooms written on the booking form, and less than one third of the hotel was occupied our request was ’not possible’, but the rooms on either side of our daughters room were empty all the time we were there.
Only on 2 occasions during our weeks stay was the water even remotely warm, and only once warm enough to wash your hair without it making you gasp for breath, we reported this to reception staff several times but nothing was done. Apart from a receptionist and a couple of cleaners there seemed to be no other staff about, to check on things etc.
Rooms were supposed to be equipped with hairdryer and kettle. There was no sign of a hairdryer and the kettle was locked in the fridge so unless you paid 15 euros for a key to the fridge you didn’t get the kettle. There was also supposed to be laundry and ironing room, not that we wanted it, but we never found it anyway, nor the table tennis table. There is no information in the rooms about telephone number for reception or room to room calls, and no information about breakfast times.
The pool area is very nice with grass, flowers, chairs sun beds etc but it is totally spoiled by the fact it is advertised on the main street as being free and open to anyone, there are Happy Hours, cheap snacks etc to encourage people in. One afternoon the pool was completely taken over by a group of youths playing a rough game of volley ball with a hard football, not suitable for what is supposed to be a family hotel, and there are never any members of staff about, to stop this happening.
Breakfast is good for a Greek Hotel, orange juice, cornflakes, yoghurt, peaches, ham, cheese bread, cake jams and honey. There was also a ’hot tray’ with bacon and fried eggs but these were more often than not, cold. Only 6 eggs were put in the container at a time and you had to knock on the kitchen door to get it refilled.
This has the potential of being a really nice bed and breakfast hotel, because it is spacious and clean but it lets itself down by it’s off hand unhelpful attitude to guests, and by the encouragement of non residents to the pool area and snack bar
