| said: As previous reports state, this hotel is in a lovely location. We liked our room, which had comfortable twin beds, a lovely bathroom, and a small kitchen area, which we did not expect, but it was nice to have free use of the fridge, which doubled as a mini-bar, and a kettle was provided along with tea and coffee. There was a TV, air conditioning, and good lighting. Use of the safe was free - most unusual!- and reception happily lent me an adaptor when mine failed. Best of all was the view. Our terrace looked onto the marina and that was priceless! All the outside areas were beautifully kept with attractive planting and covered walkways.
Housekeeping was excellent, sheets and towels changed daily. Pool towels were provided without a deposit, which was a nice touch! All staff were pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed all the meals which were well-cooked using top quality produce. We would have liked dishes to be better labelled as they just had 'fish' or 'grilled meat' and we like to know exactly what we're eating, but staff were always at hand to give information.
What this hotel lacks is a bar area. There really wasn't anywhere to spend time after dinner, and it really was too cold in the evenings to wander far. We also found that walls were thin and we could hear conversations and TV quite clearly, but these are minir points. On the whole we really enjoyed our stay and would be happy to go back.

| said: Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. It is situated at the far end of Praia de Rocha in front of an old fortress with the marina right outside your window!
Access to Rocha itself is up a few flights of stairs. 97 steps in total, which take less than a couple of minutes to climb although they may be a bit much for people with walking difficulties, but once you reach the top you are on the main strip with lots of shops, bars and restaurants.
Apartments were spacious and kept spotlessly clean. Air conditioning was a bonus as it was so hot there! Food at breakfast time was great, but can't comment on the restaurant at other mealtimes as we didn't eat there at those times during our stay. We did, however, eat at the "Dockside" restaurant which is in the hotel complex. Went there as it had been recommended, it was ok but nothing special.
Hotel staff were helpful, but the reception ran out of cash for travellers cheques a couple of times during the week which was a wee bit inconvenient, but they could be cashed easily in Rocha itself.
There was no entertainment provided in the hotel itself which left some of the older travellers disappointed, but the hotel complex had a handful of bars with discos, karaoke, live music etc, but they were really expensive so we preferred to go into town at night. Mini bar was very tempting, but as with all hotels it was overpriced. If you do go here there is a great wee shop at the foot of the fortress steps, next to the beach where you can stock up on reasonably priced refreshments!
Pool was great. Not deep enough for diving and once out of the shallow end it never got any deeper than my shoulders which I thought was great for kids as it is harder for them to go out of depth. Plus the pool heats up quicker in the morning when it is not so deep! A small paddling area for children is provided, along with plenty of sun loungers and parasols.
My partner and I had a fabulous time here. Our favourite times were spent sitting on our terrace at night, sipping some ice cold superbock whilst watching all the fishing boats sail by off for a nights work.
Highly recommended.

| said: We visit this hotel at least twice a year if only for the location it is fantastic. The marina outside your window you just sit there and dream of going on all the boats.
The breakfast is very good loads of choice, we had a few evening meals there and they were good.
The staff are very attentive and friendly.
The restaurants along the front and great. The dockside (upstairs) the Italian all fine food.
We hired a car and ventured further a field. Great base for touring or a totally chilling out.
Going back again in 3 weeks...can't wait

The hotel fits perfectly in the environment and the natural scenarios, which are absolutely gorgeous
We had a great relaxing time

| said: Marina De Portimao has recently been re-named Tivoli Arade hotel. The rooms are large and very clean with air conditioning & sat TV including CNN, BBC World, EuroSport and Sky News. The hotel is spread across a large area around the whole marina but the hotel provide a golf buggy service to transport guests from the far away rooms (which we were in) to the breakfast room, reception or shop complex.
If you have children with pushchairs or a wheel chair I suggest asking for rooms on the ground floor as there are no lifts to the 1st floor (Hotel is only two stories high). It was a bit of a pain carry the pushchair up and down the steps all the time but didn’t spoil the holiday. The kitchenette was very basic, two electric hobs, a sink, and a fridge. Cutlery was restricted we only had one butter knive, a few spoons and forks. No saucepans or pans. We asked for a high chair, kettle and hairdrier (all of which they provided next day). There is a safe in all rooms but ours didn't work for the first two days until they changed the batteries.
All rooms have balconies with excellent beautiful views over the marina , the Arade river and sea however there is only outside lights on balconies on the ground floor (not on the 1st floor ones for some strange reason). Nearby Shops are limited but there is a limited mini- market which closes at 7pm, a news agent and about 6 restaurants and 4 bars within the hotel complex. Restaurants include Pizza Hut, an Italian , Chinese, two fish restaurants. I can recommend the Piri Piri Chicken and Grilled Sardines as local dishes. There are three salt water swimming pools, One large one, One smaller one by the far away rooms and one childrens one. All are clean and safe but there is no life guard and the life saving aids were missing from their holders. Watch out for flying parasols late in the afternoon, the wind picks up and the parasols regularly fly dangerously into the swimming pools.
There is a fast and free internet access from two PC’s in reception which is good, They also offer Wireless Internet Wi-Fi if you bring a laptop. The main resort of Praia da Rocha and shops are up 95 steps (not for the faint hearted) or a 1KM 15 minute walk. The main town of Portimao is 20 minutes walk along unmade paths at times or a 5 euro cab ride away. Again if you have a wheel chair or push chair watch out for cobble paths and paths running our or unmade.
Breakfast was excellent, a range of eggs, bacon, beans, sausage, roast, cereals, fresh fruit, ham, cheese, yogurts, coffee and pastries.
