Just arrived back from the Arum. We booked 2 Bed Apartment. We are a family of two adults and two teenagers. On arrival we were given a one bed apartment - not suitable for family with older teenagers as sofa beds only suitable for younger children. Immediately went to Reception and they told us to come back next morning to see the Manager. Manager said there were no two bed apartments available - he said there had been a problem. The fact that we had our booking form with us was stating 2 beds apartment did not help. We were told we would be able to move half way through our holiday to 2 bed apartment - not ideal as this would mean spending another day of our holiday packing/unpacking. Eventually negotiated that we would suffer the apartment in return for half board and proper bed for our 6ft 2 son which we accepted. Bed never arrived and we decided to make the most of it rather than to ruin our holiday back and forth to Manager.

On the positive side the Hotel is immaculate. However the apartments could do with a refurb as a little dated. Food variety is good but scambled eggs, tomatoes etc. were always cold at breakfast. We ate twice in hotel in the evening and the food was fine - usual hotel food. The al a carte restaurant is very good and not expensive at all.

All in all a good holiday but having booked this holiday a year before going we were very disappointed with the apartment situation.

Our first holiday to Turkey will contain a mainly positive review. Let's start with the Arum Hotel itself. Superbly designed; many features that added to the holiday right from the onset. The layout is excellant giving the feeling of space but with atmosphere. There were never times that you were crammed in even though we were there in peak season.
Although I enjoy full English breakfasts, the absence of bacon and sausages didn't dampen my appetite and I usually had more than enough to last me until dinner! The evening meals were varied enough to satisfy most normal people with a vast number of desserts to choose from if we had any room left for more.
During the daytime, after securing our spot round the pool at 04.00, my wife and daughter relaxed by reading or swimming in the vast pool area. I myself took part in several activities including water polo, water aerobics, gym workout, step class, yoga and pallates! Not bad for a fifty-five year old. We also ventured down to the mainly sandy beach watching the local turtle population swimming around the jetty area whilst trying to get a breath of air in the 40 degree heat.
The hotel staff were almost without exception extremely polite and helpful. They all spoke English to some degree, most reasonably fluently. (Better than our Turkish). The entertainment team were great fun and were always cheerful in spite of the ridiculously long hours they were on duty. They all took part in the evening entertainment with a large array of dancing skills and elaborate costumes on show.
I would recommend the hotel to anyone and would certainly go back.
The major downside to the holiday was having to run the gauntlet of over enthusiastic shop owners when walkin outside of the hotel. (Window shopping is not an option).

Just arrived back this morning from the Arum Hotel. The positives were the hotel is spotless, pool, pool area and gardens are immaculate and the food, for only a week duration is very good but repetitive. The negatives though spoilt out stay. As already mentioned in previous reviews this hotel is catered for our german friends. The attitudes of the staff, mainly at the reception and the pool bar are very disappointing. I lost count of the number of times I was overlooked and ignored in favour of serving german guests. In order to be heard and dealt with you had to shout out first. They didn't seem to pleased to serve the english at all. Secondly we all know about the germans/towel/beds scenario, on holiday i like to relax and not have to set my alarm!! but in order to get our sunbeds anywhere near the pool then i had to get up at 6am to lay our towels because by the time i got down to the pool area the majority were taken. This is a big problem at the hotel and it should be reviewed immediately. The entertainment on a night for a 5star hotel is very poor so we found ourselves leaving the hotel for entertainment elsewhere. And lastly if you have a late flight, i.e during the night, be aware the checkout time is midday, bus was picking us up at 23.45. We emailed the hotel prior to arriving asking to keep the room, at a charge, and were informed that it wouldn't be a problem, but while we were there the staff on reception refused point blank and did not want to help us in any way. It wasn't until we spoke to the manager and explained our situation and the email we sent that the decision was overturned and we kept the room till 6pm.

Just returned from the Arum Hotel and had the most fantastic holiday. This is a 5* hotel without doubt. Every where is immaculately clean and the gardens are beautiful. Had clean sheets and towels everyday. Free beach towels which you also change everyday. Free safe in room which we have never had before. Staff are very friendly. Yes it is mainly German and Russians but we prefer this than a hotel full of English yobs. I cant comment on the entertainment at night as we went out and about. Would definately return here.

This is a german owned hotel catering for Germans, the staff spoke very poor English.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, linen and towels changed every day.

Evening meals were good generally, a lot of pasta dishes and 30 different salads, 20 different sweets.

Breakfasts ok if you like cereals and eggs, no pork based dishes e.g bacon.

Hotel out of town but flag down a passing mini bus and pay 50p to get to town.

Entertainment at night was rubbish. In the bar a german duo sang gibberish if they forgot the words, there is a disco of sorts but we didn'nt bother, the Brothers 100 yards away is quite a good bar, belly dancers etc.Trips expensive but good.

Hotel is moving towards Brits so 3 or 4 years should see a really good hotel, at the moment we wouldn't go back.

We stayed in the Arum hotel for 3 nights as we originally booked for the Hemera Hotel 100yards down the road.We were told on arrival they had overbooked the Hemera so we had to stay here.
I agree with most other positive comments regarding the Arum apart from, on a night after the shows in the ampitheatre til 10.30pm there really wasn't any form of entertainment or music for ourselves or our son(11 yrs old).Unless we missed somewhere because we were there only 3 nights we ended up going to bed early out of sheer boredom. We were told not to tell other English guests whilst we were there that we were "all inclusive"(only because they had moved us) as they only do "all inclusive" deals for other nationalities but not English guests, why,I don't know!!!It is geared up more for the Germans and Russians so if you don't like this then don't book to go.
Overall I wouldn't visit this hotel again with my son and husband as we need more entertainment on a night.

The Arum is an excellent hotel right on the beach and in 08 it should be even better as it it being closed in November for a 5 month refurbishment.

The guests were very mixed with quite a few Russians and Germans but we also met Austrians, Swedes and of course Brits. Not too many kids even in July.

The rooms were cleaned daily and were spotless.

The Arum is in large grounds with very large pools and with a large sandy beach just at the end. The security team were always on the look out for who should not be there, so was an excellent safe environment even for children. It never felt crowded even when we knew it was fully booked. If you want a sunbed by the poolside you needed to play the get up early and put a towel down game but there was always plenty of comfortable beds on the beach , which was made clean every day . Beds all had sun shades and were well spread out . No need to take towels as the hotel provides clean ones everyday.

Water sports on the beach were good, paragliding, banana boat, ringos and they also run trips much cheaper than Thomas Cook. The whitewater rafting was one fifth of the price ( 125 YTL for 4 of us)and should not be missed although you need to be warned there is a price to be paid, there is a lot of pick ups at the beginning and end mucking about taking unnecessary photos. But truly great fun even for those with young children. They also run a trip to a water park ( 80 YTL for all of us ) but it stops twice on the way , so does not arrive till 12 but well worth it once you get, lots of great slides. However heard poor reports of some of the boat trips and the Thomas Cook's Turkish bath trip was described as a total waste of time. Could also be a good description of their rep could not even get the times of meetings or pickups correct.

The evening trip to a well preserved Roman amphitheatre at Aspendos is also recommended to see The Fire of Anatolia. A good show and a great atmosphere giving you an impression of what it must have been like 2,000 years ago .

The large mostly Russian animation team were excellent, at running bowls, Volleyball, archery and aqua gym which we tried many times. The also run the entertainment in a superb purpose built theatre. They were professional ballet dancers and put in a lot of effort with the shows. Not sure about the comedy but the dancing was very professional with lots of elaborate costumes.

Lots for all ages with the adult games being just that but we heard great reports of kids club and they even had a teenage version. In fact I would really recommend this as a fantastic place for families with teenagers. A place you could give them lots of space and freedom as it was secure and the hotel even has it's own professionally equipped nightclub where we felt OK to let our 15 year old son go with his similar aged friends without adult supervision with confidence.

The food was good and we always eat on the outside terrace where the specials were cooked. Trout, Sea Bass , salmon and home made kebabs amongst them but always something in a large choice to take your fancy.

The hotel apparently has a 25% return rate and we understand why, we met many people who had been more than 5 times.

This hotel was were we went for our honeymoon. I am very glad we chose it as it was perfect for realxing and chilling out after the hecticness of the wedding.

Lovely grounds, gardens and the room was also nice.

The best feature was the pools, the best I have ever seen!! The hotel was very well layed out.

The hotel is mostly germans. If you go you have to get up early for a swim like we did and watch them all march down at 6am to put there towles on their sunbeds at the beach, soooo funny!!!

We have just got back from the Arum hotel...

Firstly let me say that it is a very nice hotel, the pool is the best pool I've ever seen.

The rooms are lovely and cleaned everyday, the whole hotel was very clean...

Location......out on a limb, there's not alot going on around the hotel, a few bars and shops, you need to walk into town(45 mins walk), or 7-10 mins in taxi..we walked along the beach, but it got to much for my 6 year old.....

Food.........was ok, alot of choice but don't stay here if you want Turkish food, not alot of it here. Breakfast was so boring, egg, egg,or more egg..unless you like cereal, or cheese........We got really bored of the food here, very German, so ate out even though we were half board..

The hotels first language is Turkish, followed by German, there English is not very good, but then my Turkish isn't to good either...The hotel is 80 per cent German, 20 per cent English, there was hardly any other English people here while we where there....

Some of the bar staff were lovely some wasn't, the entertainment staff especially the kids club staff were great, my little lad loved going to the kids club. Theres one lovely young lady who works there with the kids and shes great and very friendly..

I wouldn't go back to this hotel again, a bit to out the way for us, if you like staying in your hotel every night then may be this is the place 4 you...

Have just had a great 2 weeks in the Hotel Arum in December 2005. Weather was mixed but overall not bad as well as you can expect in late December.

As most of the reports say this hotel is a great place to stay, with most of the staff being very friendly and the food is of a very high standard with plenty of choice at all meals. The Christmas Gala meal included in the price we paid, was waiter served but all other meals are from the buffet.

The hard working animation team put on a show every few days that is good entertainment, and they also arranged the daytime activities; archery and boules etc. The music in the lobby bar at night tends to be a bit tired as it’s the same 3 guys every night. Hotel room was kept very clean with a change of towels etc most days and the cleaners make an effort with flowers set out on the bed some days when we got back to the room, a nice touch.

Grounds of hotel are kept in top class condition but the Turkish baths were out of action for the time of our stay.

Hotel is set up mainly for German guests with only a few Brits at the time of our holiday, many people including Brits are on repeat visits and or long stays.

We did a 3 day trip to Cappadocia with 2 nights half board for 40€ and this included entrance fees etc you just have to pay for midday meals, drinks etc. You are taken to a carpet factory and pottery, leather and onyx places but this helps keep the tour cost down as the tour company gets a small commission on any sales. (some pressure to buy mainly at carpet factory – leather and pottery good quality and not bad prices )

The under ground city is well worth a look at, as is the formations called the fairy chimneys. We would like to go back and spend more time in Cappadocia as in the time allowed we only visited a small amount of this incredible place.

On the way we called in at Konya to see the Whirling Dervishes museum (Meviana Museum ) again well worth seeing, would have liked to see the dance but the annual festival is from 12th – 17th December and so we missed it by a few days. This trip is excellent value but a long way.
Only down side to this holiday is the way the shop keepers, mainly in Side, try much too hard to get you into their shops, and also look out for the men around the ruins in Side as they act as guides without you asking for one, and then demand payment.

Some gypsy kids around street Markets so keep your eyes on them as they try to give or sell you Turkish flags and bracelets as a pretence like the well known flower sellers (pick pockets) in Spain ??. Drinks in hotel are a bit pricey, but you expect to pay this in a 5 star hotel.

This was our second stay at the Arum, our first being in 2002 and it was like coming home.

The Arum is a great hotel in which to relax, the card system means you have no need to carry cash which eliminates the problem of how much to tip, you can pay your bill or get a statement at any time during your stay from reception and if you pay in cash receive a 7% discount. The grounds are spacious and beautifully maintained with plenty of sun beds around the two main pools and private beach, although some of the guests still insist on getting up in the middle of the night to place towels on their chosen spot.

Arum is a German owned hotel so, German is the first language spoken here but most staff have a good understanding of English, the waiters are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble (say hello to Ismail “Smiley” for me and Ali for my daughter). The Animation Team provide plenty of entertainment during the day with activities such as volleyball, water polo, darts, aerobics and even bingo, they also have a kids club for 12 and under which seemed very popular. Every day at 5.30 there is a happy hour (buy 1 get 1 free) and in the evening a free show at the amphitheatre or disco, which is geared mainly for the German guests with dancing and elaborates costumes, I would strongly recommend you see the “folklore” show which is put on by an outside group. Every show is followed by the second happy hour in the disco.

The food is of a very high standard with plenty to choose from and you can eat as much as you want (although I would not recommend it, unless you want to buy a complete new wardrobe). We had water with our evening meal as the wine was overpriced for the quality, followed by coffee at the show and drinks at happy hour, the perfect and most economical way to spend an evening.

Lovely hotel and lovely hotel staff, all worked really hard to keep everywhere spotless.

Mostly German guests although the British are beginning to make a impact. Did think that this hotel is possibly a Thomson Gold for the Germans, quite a few older people there and the entertainment geared very much to them but the location, people, bars and restaurants in area more that made up for this.

Would love to go back again sometime.

The Elit Koseoglu hotel was in a great location, amongst the shops and bars and near the beach.

The hotel was basic but I have come to expect that and what do I want for £200 for a week ?

We were supposed to be bed and breakfast but I never saw a dining room but I was never awake for breakfast anyway.

The staff were helpful and friendly although I think they spoke better German than English.

We visited the Arum with our two girls, aged 8 and 4, staying in one of the apartments.

We would definitely recommend this hotel/apartments for anybody travelling with similar aged children looking for high quality accommodation, food and facilities.

The swimming pool area is huge, with plenty of beds and surrounded by grass areas where you can get away from the pool to lie in the shade under a tree.

We paid to upgrade to half board on arrival - far cheaper than booking it as part of your package in the Uk (I think we paid about £20 per day for the whole family for breakfast and dinner) - and the quality and selection of food in the large restaurant was really good. We enjoyed sitting outside for dinner on the large terrace as the weather was so good.

Our room was perfect - separate bedrooms for us and the children and a large kitchen/lounge area with TV etc. Rooms were cleaned daily.

I do not think anybody staying at this accommodation would be disappointed

Just got back from a week at the Arum Hotel in Side, Turkey. Have to say this was the best holiday we've ever had, mainly due to the excellent friendly service of all staff at the hotel. We were due to stay at the Kentia Apartments in Side. However, on arrival we discovered that they had let our room out (not good!), we complained to Thomas Cook and were upgraded to the Arum.

The food was of superb quality, and had a great range; we visited the a la Carte Restaurant on our last night and had a great value meal. There are two good restaurants with bars that you can visit throughout the day, one is situated right on the beach, both do a good variety of food - from burgers through to fish salads.

You will be issued with a payment card that gets swiped whenever you make a purchase within the hotel, you then sign a receipt and get a pink copy - keep track of these receipts because its a lot easier to hand over a card - we were worried about going over budget, but ended up having plenty of money left over. We settled our account by cash and were pleased to get a 7% discount (this equated to around 3 free meals!).

From growing up in Malta & Cyprus, I was well expecting to find the usual creepy crawlies and poor hygiene. However, I was amazed that the whole hotel building, and grounds were kept completely immaculate. Arum is located right on the beach, and has its own private beach area with plenty of sun-loungers with parasols.

The pool area is superb, again with plenty of sun-loungers. We found the waiters to be very friendly and attentive, and they tried very hard to speak English (their English is far better than our Turkish!). The reception is open 24 hours, and they will do their best to help you with anything you need. We found that the entertainment was great. The animation team is far better than in any other hotel that we've stayed in. They work tirelessly - some days between 1000 and 0100! They encourage the guests to join in with sports and games, and put on a good show at 2130 every evening, some of the dancing is fantastic. We hope to keep in contact with one of the girls. Our favourite night was the garden party - held fortnightly; you have to experience it to appreciate it.

We will be returning.

Great sized rooms for a family with 2 teenage girls and lots of storage space to unpack our suitcases. The hotel was fabulous. Everything was clean and well maintained and any small problem was dealt with immediately. Towelling robes were supplied (and they gave us an extra 2 for the girls) and also towels for by the pool.

The club for teenagers was not open because of the time of year but there was crazy golf and we more or less had our own squash court for the 2 weeks.

The bathroom was great, nice bath and power shower! Clean towels every day if required.

If I had any critisism at all it would be that the cooking was fairly limited as there were only 2 solid plates and the pans were pretty big so they did not fit on the stove properly! To anyone self catering I would definately recommend a dolmus ride to the Migros (supermarket) in Manavgat (about 2-3 miles away) to do a big shop for all the basics at the start of the holiday. A lot cheaper and a lot more choice than the hotel shop and the local stores.

The hotel snack bar was very good for food but be careful of the cost of drinks. Also the icecream bar was ridiculously expensive.

Overall it was a fantastic hotel and better than in the Thomas Cook brochure.

I would 100% recommend the Arum to anyone.

Hotel was very clean and spotless, rooms had excellent facilities, beach was private and plenty of sunbeds available.

The only downfall was the entertainment, which was virtually non existant.

Could not fault this hotel, and would most certainly return in the future. PS If you have teenage daughters you have to keep an eye on them as the Turkish waiters do take a fancy to the English girls.

we stayed at the arum appartments/hotel. what a great place this is, we stayed in a one bedroomed app which had a double and single bed in the bedroom and a daybed in the living area which was comfy enough to sleep on.

the cooking facilities were limited only two rings, but they were fine for what we needed.power shower in the bathroom was great, always hot water and tv with nearly all german channels, but mtv, bbc prime and cnn in english.air conditioning is free in the app.

everywhere on this site is clean with beautiful flowers. everything gets washed down every night. our app was cleaned every day, fresh towels whenever we needed them, very high standard. you don't need to take any towels with you as you are given a towel card for towels for the beach and pool.

as reported before the site works on a card system, you just hand your card over for any food or drink and then settle up whenever you want, we settled every 3 days or so, drinks are quite expensive 3mil for ice tea or coke, 3.5mil for a beer (sm). the shop on the site is very expensive and not very friendly--probably because we had lira and he wanted euros. try and avoid having to buy anything other than your bread from him. plenty of little supermarkets outside the hotel.

i was looking forwarsd to being able to go to the gym, but although it has a good range of weights, it only has two bikes and one treadmill, which you could wait an hour for. the germans won't move for anyone.

the pool is fab, as its so large it never seems busy and the beach is private and ajoins the site, but the sea is very rocky on the arum beach, but if you just walk 15 metres to the next hotels beach the sea is sandy. plenty of sunbeds and all free. the germans still play the towel game, but theres so many beds and so much room it doesn't matter.

food in hotel restaurant is wonderful--mainly caters for the germans, but still plenty we liked--£30.00 for two adults and two children. we ate here a few times, but also went out into the resort as well, can recommended the queen restaurant ( has pool tables and internet cafe at the rear ). we had 3 lovely meals here. this was at the strip in front of the arum, plenty of shops and bars etc here.

we only went into side itself once, its about 4 kilometres down the beach and takes at least 50 mins to walk, but it is a nice walk there and back, you can of course get the dolmus or taxi. we ate at the mexican restaurant called chillis, this was very good and friendly staff. cosmos charged the earth for trips, so we used local operators to do ours, white water rafting £30.00 what a great day, boat trip £42.00 and jeep safari £50.00, all brill days and we got a good deal as they let my 14yr old go as a child ( under 12 ).

The only down side to the arum is the entertainment, while its very good and beautiful costumes, its basically just the same show in a different format every night, everything is geared for the germans. they get a ten min explanation, the british get one min.

the staff also speak very limited english so if you like to sit and chat with the waiters, you can't do it here. service is very good though and the snack bar does lovely cheap food, but its only open until 5.00pm.

this resort is lovely, but be prepared, its more expensive than other turkish resorts, the turks speak german as their second language and we didn't see any dancing waiters in the bars or quiz nights etc. ( not our thing, but the kids always like watching the dancing and doing the quiz's) also euro is the excepted currency and you will get a better deal, for ex i was charged 13 euros for some drinks ( £8.20ish) but when it was converted to lira for me it was 25mil (£9.60ish) this happened a lot.

we loved this hotel and will be booking again next year hopefully. well worth its 4/5 star status.

The room was large even for a family with 2 teenage girls. It was cleaned everyday and the housekeepers always made an extra effort ( e.g by making things out of our night clothes).

The food had a wide variety, my daughter is a vegeterian so she can be quite difficult to cater for but she had just as a choice as we did.

The hotel itself has got anything you need there but it is quite a walk from side.

The hotel staff were very friendly and would put them selves out do do anything they could for you (in fact my eldest daughter still is in contact with one of the entertainers) They all spoke good English (and german)

The entertainment was good something for everyone.

There were alot of Germans but even they could not put a downer on our holiday. Its an amazing hotel would reccommend to anyone. We loved it so much my eldest is going back next year with her boyfriend.
