We went all inclusive but the food was very boring with very little variety from one day to the next. We got mashed potato one day and thats all the English visitors talked about so thats how good the food is. We visited the Italian on 3 occasions and found that after each visit we were poorly.

The rooms and the hotel grounds are kept spotless. The location is a bit poor because there isn't much to see or do once you leave the hotel grounds.

The entertainment is geared more towards the 'locals' that visit every weekend. They take over the place, they swarm around the pool, the bars and the dining rooms.

This hotel is not worth any money to stay at. The food is repetetive and crowded.

At weekends the hotel is taken over by locals that come in, they swim fully clothed in the pool making it very dirty and it never really recovers between weekends. The beach is packed with sunbeds so no real space to yourself.

The beach sellers will hassle you all day long, even waking you when sleeping. Thomas Cook are aware of the problems but don't seem to be able to solve anything. The hotel staff are more intersted if you speak Spanish and will serve them first at the bars.

If you are in the 200 series rooms you will hear music all day long coming from the pool area this will stop at around 11.30pm. If you are in the 500 series (Sea View) you will be kept awake until 3am as the disco is situated beside these.

No real entertainment for the children just a pool table and table tennis table.

Nice hotel grounds and swimming pools. On an 'OK' but small beach. Good little spot for snorkelling. What has really prompted us to post this report is the problem with the food.

Tasted fine and good selection but we had upset tummies most of the holiday and I went to hospital for 3 days with food posioning.

Conclusion: Not recommended.

Hotel was an "upgrade" the holiday we booked was a 4*, only when we were transferred for an extra $50 did we find we were actually upgraded to a 3*!!!..

Hotel was clean, well worn, but clean. No hot water in the chalets. Air conditioning very effective, to the point of making the bedclothes mouldy!

Room change was not much better.

Food was ok, AI drinks given in plastic cups. Not exactly adequate. Also limited from asking for too many at one time.

Beach excellent, but a little small. Watch out for urchins on the rocks. beach sellers a pain.

If you get the chance, a day trip to Saouna Reserve well worth while. Take plenty of immodium!!

Flew into Punta Cana, a 3 hour taxi ride to the hotel though the centre of the island, saw poverty like you wouldn't believe. You have to remember our society is different to theirs, and do not give money to begging children. We were told if you are going to give to the children, take crayons and stationary / school books as the parents take the money off the children.

We actually visited Juan Dolio in the Dominican Republic in April 2001, but on searching recently what other people thought of the hotel, I saw that there were no reports, so I just wanted to let all people due to visit the place and the Tananquera Hotel that they are in for a treat.

A small dusty road seperates the hotel complex into two, although it isn't a busy road, you do get motorbikes and scooters tearing up and down, but not many cars. We stayed on the coastal side of the road. There were three floors to the blocks. We were on the ground floor. I remember unlocking our room door for the first time and stepping inside. I literally cried with joy, as the view from the french doors was absolutely breath-taking. (Although I was a little hormonal after just having my third child only 7 weeks previously). We could jump over the low balcony and we were on the narrow beach with palm trees and then the clear water only feet away.

The rooms were clean. The food in the buffet- style restaurant was excellent and something for everyone. I heard that in some 'all inclusive' complexes, they water the alcohol down so it goes further, but this is definitely no the case here.

The staff were friendly and there is a little entertainment for the children at a workshop like place during certain hours in the day. The was entertainment on a night, but this was only average.
