Its in a great position on the harbour, i had emailed them before we arrived to see if we could have a table in the dining room to ourselves because they have a table sharing system, they were happy to do this.
On arrival we were shown to our room which was in another block further along the harbour next to the hotel consul, what a lovely surprise we had been allocated a suite at no extra cost, we had a seperate living room, fridge, a/c and kettle.
The food was lovely, a very good selection of main courses and desserts.
It was very busy in the hotel which at this time of year seems to mainly older people, but that was ok by me. would recommend this hotel and would visit again

| said: This was the first time we had been to this hotel and will not be the last. The hotel was clean and the food was very good , I am fussy but I always found something nice to eat. We even had a Sunday roast with Beef and Yorkshire pudding that looked and tasted exactly as it should do.You are allocated a table at the start of your holiday in the restaurant and this was great because you didnt have to hunt for a table.
All of the staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for you.
The entertainment was reasonable , you had bingo every night followed by a professional show. One of these was a man called John who was very entertaining and very very funny.
We are going back to this hotel again next year , it is in a perfect location overlooking the harbour,
The hotel has two parts to it.
The new part has renovated rooms with air conditioning but if you want a harbour view you need to go into the old part of the hotel, these rooms do not have air conditioning and are quite dated but spotlessly clean. We had one of these rooms and the views were superb. All in all this is a good quality 3 star hotel.

| said: Hotel Cala Bona is exactly as described in the brochure overlooking a lovely harbour.
Our room was large with a seperate area for our daughter (Room 308 if you're booking)and was cleaned every day and towels changed when asked for.
Food was varied and fresh with several different choices every evening.
The pool was never overcrowded and sunbeds available (which could not be reserved and if not used for an hour towels could be moved) although the pool could be cleaned better.
Bingo every night and entertainment which was standard 2 star fare but very enjoyable.
Short walk to the more lively Cala Millor, not a young persons resort though.

| said: It is now 30 years we have neen going to this Hotel. Things have changed, the harbour is bigger and the 'local' beach has sand 'no more'!!
Every year we think we will not go again but we book for the next year & even the year after!
The reception staff are wonderful and the 'Family' who own the Hotel are always very welcoming.
We have never been ones to recommend a Hotel but friends have come with us & have always booked again!
Cala Bona is so relaxing, & there are no problems with youngsters running riot etc!
That's why we always enjoy our three weeks away there every year!
Only drawback is the 'dreaded Euro' which has made our holiday more expensive, but it's worth it!
We always book direct with the Hotel, so we can choose our room for how many nights we want.
So many friends come back to CB at the same time every year so we have a great get together!

Entertainment every night, not always to our taste but the bar was packed every night so a lot of people did like it!!
One disappointment was that the bar Jemica along the road has closed. Most people used this bar as the last stop before bed for a coffee and brandy.
We will certainly return.

We have found this hotel to be most pleasant in every way, staff are first class and the atmosphere brilliant.
I wouldn't hesitate in recomending this hotel to anyone and we look forward to returning for many years.

| said: My family ( the wife, 2year old jacob and the in laws ) and i have just returned from our holiday at Hotel Cala bona and i wanted to make sure everyone who wants to visit Cala Bona knows about this hotel.
Lots of good points such as the great staff, the cleanliness and the location. We had a family room which was a good size in the reception part of the building which had aircon which was ok whereas the people who give this a bad review have probably been accomadated at the front of the hotel - therefore if you go in summer make sure you get an aircon room.
The food was always varied and catered for everyone even the fussy people like myself with the breakfast being the favourite. Because we had 4 adults and Jake we didin't have to share so if you go in a pair you will have to eat with another couple.
The pool was clean and tidy with the baby pool great for jake who probably spent most of his time splashing around making lots of friends with other kids - the only critism was the towels on the sunbed scenerio .... although the guests were probably 99% British you had to get out early to lay your claim to a bed although the hotel management displayed signs advising removal of towels would be enforced if people took the mick.
The entertainment was good but they don't cater for children so we found a Thomson Superfamily holiday hotel behind the hotel towards the sunwin resort which was great so we had the best of both worlds
The resort of Cala Bona is great for young families who who want to be able to entertain the kids and have a relaxing drink overlooking the harbour once the kids have finally decided to go to sleep in the prams... you don't get any hassle with bar touts or any drunken idiots just a really nice , small resort with freindly people and a few classy bars and restaurants.
It says alot about the place when the people you meet round the pool have returned year on year, in some cases 10 years.
All in All a great part of Majorca, a great hotel and a fantastic resort.
Handy tips:
We booked our flights and rooms separately
Flights through Jet2 via Newcastle ( Sundays are quieter )
Hotel room through - www.greatlatedeals.co.uk
and probably saved alot of money - if your in need a transfers from airport use the Resort Hoppa.

| said: If you are single forget this hotel. I stayed for a week from 13th July for a week, nightmare. I had what can only be described as a cell, but overlooked.
My room constisted of two bed on of which was against the wardrobe, therefore you had to move it to open it. One fan, and one socket that the fan was fitted to. A round mirror which was the other end of the room. I guess they must only have bald guest as there was no hairdryer and as there was only one socket you couldn't have a hairdryer on and the fan, and good eyesight to see yourself the other end of the room.
No full length mirror. Once you opened the shutters as you would for light, god and his dog could see in.I had to get changed in the bathroom.
I asked to be moved, Management stuck there heels in, no chance, even though I offered to pay an upgrade. I asked for some net for the window for privacy, a simple no. They said there were no more rooms. A guy walked in off the street, viewed a room and said I'll take it once that had cleaned from the last guest, obviously wasn't a single room.
There was nothing in the least appealing about the room, I couldn't wait to go home.
The food was ok, entertainment was quite good providing your not above it, or back and above, which finished about 1pm, not that I was in a hurry to go back to my room.
They do have other rooms that were an improvement on mine, I could see these from my room, in fact I could see myself in the room across the road, unfortunately not well enough to see how I looked before I went out.
Also if your single they put you to the side of the restaurant like some kind of leper. Perhaps some may like to be left alone, personally I go expecting to meet people no segregated from them. (As from the film dirty dancing, no-one puts babe in the corner) except the Cala Bona.
Believe me the photo's you see of the rooms are certainly not the single
Tomson gives this a 3star, what a joke

| said: Just booked to go back to Cala Bona at Easter this year. Just found this web site and thought this write up might be of use to some people.
I was in cala bona last year and would just like to comment on what a fantastic, safe and frienly place it is. Hotel was great, food good and staff very friendly.
Entertainment was varied some nights good some nights not so good. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we ventured out to a bar we had read about on the internet before we arrived, and were also recommened by other hotel guests and staff. It's called the Sanddancer bar and is one street back from the hotel next to the bank. Its run by a lovely geordie family who go out of their way to make sure you are happy and entertained.
The kids were kept happy in a safe area at the back which included a free cinema!!(fab) we could then sit back and enjoy the great entertainment by Faz(the loony!)The best reccomendation we can give is that we went back most nights, which is something we never do.
Just remember to take a jar of Lloyd Grosemans tomatoe and chilli sauce....you will understand when you get there. P.S remember to wave to the bin men!
All in all we would recommend this resort for couples and families. Something to do for all ages! Great!

| said: This was our first visit to Hotel Cala Bona and after a very shaky start to our holiday being told at 3.30 in the morning that they had no reservation for us, we were eventually allocated a room at 1pm (none of this was the fault of the hotel may I add, but of Med Hotels who had messed things up)
Anyway, we were given a room situated in another block to the main part of the hotel and I was slightly disappointed that we didn't get a sea view (although it was never guaranteed that we would) but the room was fine and cleaned every day.
We were half board but would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room.
We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly, especially a couple of the waiters who were a good laugh.
I'm quite a fussy eater but have to say I enjoyed the whole experience of eating in the hotel as I could always find something I liked. They also have a nice little system whereby you can buy a bottle of wine and if you don't finish it, it is re-corked and you can finish it the next evening! We never had to share a table as there were three of us and I must admit I was glad about that. I saw a few couples seated with strangers who looked slightly uneasy - others got on well together.
I can't report on the entertainment as we never sat in the bar and watched any of it. It seemed to consist of Elvis/Lionel Ritchie impersonators but from the bits I heard, it sounded pretty good and passers by were skipping past singing along!!
The location is excellent and I would probably go back again.

| said: I have recently returned from my 3rd stay at the Cala Bona Hotel and AGAIN had a fantastic holiday. The hotel, although some parts dated, is exceptionaly clean and the staff extremely friendly.
Accomodation:
My Mother and I (me being 23) stayed for the second time in the Azul block of the hotel which is on the plus side is a later addition but situated a few minutes down the road from the main block.
Our room was spacious with a good sized bathroom with full size bath and shower attachment. The room itself comprised of 2 single beds and a sofa bed, large wardrobes, dressing table etc and plently of room.
Food:
I am quite a fussy eater when on holiday and generally don't eat meat unless in England or the States but always find something to eat at the cala Bona, even trying the meat on occasions which was cooked to perfection. Plenty of salad choice and vegetables, heaps of deserts and icecreams, fresh fruit etc.
Entertainment:
To be honest I can't comment on this as we never experienced it, generally went to bars in the resort as the entertainment on offer in the hotel seemed to be geared towards older generaions... although heard rave reviews about it the following mornings by the pool!
Location:
The hotel has an excellent location. It is situated right on the harbour which has been newly pedestrianised and improved, with plenty of rooms having either stunning sea views or as we did, lovely views of the mountains behind. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants only a minutes walk away if you want to venture away from the hotel.
Cala Bona is linked to the livelier resort of Cala Millor by a lovely prommenade, ideal for a stroll after dinner and a browse round the shops. Cala Millor is also home to a better beach than Cala Bona, but never went to this as the pool at the hotel is lovely.
Staff:
The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, some of the women on reception are English which was helpful when I got really bad sunstroke and ended up having to go to the hosptal in Palma! They promptly called the Doctor out to our room and he arrived in less than 10 minutes. When I returned the next evening they were extremely helpful, offering for the Kitchen to cook me anything I requested which was lovely of them.
Will deffinately be returning to the Cala Bona Hotel
again, many of the guests are regulars and I can see myself going back there for many years to come.

| said: This was our second holiday at this hotel, and we were hoping, that things would have improved, sadly this was not the case. That said, the hotel itself is lovely, very clean, maybe a bit dated in parts, but there is much room for improvement.
To start with the food is very poor, we were offered fried eggs with the breakfast, two or three times in a fortnight, the rest of the time we were offered scrambled eggs, not a good idea, on a buffet style servery, they just end up all congealed, and rubbery. Sausages were served up very occasionally, very nice they were too. The bacon, well what can one say, it was like tissue paper, and you had to have four slices (I would not insult rashers) to get a decent piece of meat, the rest is just fat. The cereals are acceptable, though not quite Kellogs, and the bread is fine, even when toasted. Evening meals? Well that is another matter, if you like lots of green beans, peas, the odd serving of carrots, mash that is runny, roast potatoes that have been fried, and creamed spinach, this is definitely the place for you. Don't get me wrong, what was served up was edible, it was always hot, contrary to what other people have reported, just not to our taste. The desserts, though very, very nice, and well presented, were the same every night, ok you also get lots of fresh fruit, including various varieties of melon, but sometimes you just get fed up of the same old stuff, and when do we Brits eat cold rice pudding? It was on every night!!
That said, the soups, were really good and wholesome, though I personally would have liked a gazpacho or two, though I suppose they have tried that in the past, only to be told it is cold, I suppose they can't win. The other thing I couldn't fault them on was the way they cooked the meat, everything from beef to lamb was perfect, it was just sooooo tender.
The entertainment in the hotel is ok, if you are over 60, they have this awful bingo, with a caller who might as well have not bothered. Then they do have the odd one or two good acts, such as John, he was really good, the rest remain nameless.
The waiting staff at night, are a waste of space, and I wouldn't pay them in washers, I lost count of the times my partner and I, sat there trying to get the attention of one of them. Are they not here to sell us drinks, to increase the revenue of the hotel? Maybe it's just me being picky, I don't think so, I'm not that kind of person, all I want is a nice holiday.
That said, I would never come back to this hotel again, which is a great shame, as it has a prime location, right on the harbour, and ideal for all that that has to offer, ie sailing, fishing, people watching, all the things we like. I'm sure Sebastien the Manager, would like to know all these things, he probably does! But as long as us Brits put up with it, and pay our hard earned cash to him, ( I bear him no grudges, lovely guy) nothing will change, is this really what we want, or am I in a minority, (or do we just accept it?).

We really enjoyed the entertainment and never considered going anywhere else in the evenings, it was in my opinion far better than some 4 star hotels we have stayed at( lager was about 2.40euro a pint).
Food was good although the table sharing system in the dinning room was a bit unusual, although we were placed with a very nice couple (hope they read this)for veggies there was a special menu with a choice of about 10 meals providing they ordered before 11.00am.

| said: Having booked a Thomsons 3* AoA late deal to Majorca we were half expecting to be sent to a Magaluf Mega Hotel for the week. We were therefore surprised to be ushered off the coach outside a café opposite the harbour at Cala Bona – about as far from Magaluf as you can get, in more ways than one!
We must have looked a little confused because a hotel porter quickly gathered up our luggage and led us through the café and across a small road to reception. A northern English lady quickly checked us in and sent us on our way, accompanied by another porter, to a new annex 100yds down the street. How disappointing to find that our room looked out over a dark alley onto a residential block 3 metres opposite.
Back to reception and after some um-ming and ah-ing and the handing over of some Euros we were given a room with a good view overlooking the harbour. The room was fairly small, no TV or hairdryer but it was brand new and, as with the rest of the block, was nicely finished to a high standard.
Turns out that the Cala Bona is a Portland hotel used by Thomson for some of its AoAs. The main part was built over 80 years ago and the hotel is one of the oldest in Majorca.
All the public areas and the restaurant have been nicely renovated but still retain their old charm. You can sit in the bar and feel the presence of generations of holidaymakers getting their first taste of sangria, flamenco and Y Viva Espana! No wonder the hotel has a very loyal clientele who return year after year.
If you had taken one of those pioneering Spanish holidays - the hotel would bring the memories flooding back.
We were allocated a table in the dining room for the week which we shared with another couple who we hardly saw because they tended to dine later than us.
The food was fine and geared towards British tastes with lovely roasts but nothing spectacular, like gala dinners.
The weather was dry sunny and warm for the time of year. With lengthening shadows topping up the tan around the pleasant pool was just possible but a dip in the cold water was for the hardy, the sea was a few degrees warmer though.
Not sure what the area would be like in the high season but with fair weather in Oct/Nov there was plenty to do for not-so-oldies. Walking is flat and easy, Cala Bona merges into Cala Millor and then a hop around the headland on the Wally Trolly takes you to Sa Coma and S’Illot.
There are plenty of bikes to hire for the speed merchants and boat trips to Porto Cristo for the sea dogs. Buses take you further afield to Manacor and Porto Cristo.
Palma has a great atmosphere at this time of year and is well worth the effort of an hour and a half journey on the Express bus.
The Cala Bona Hotel will appeal mostly to those wanting a holiday with an old-fashioned feel. If you want a room with a good view be prepared to pay the necessary supplements.
