| said: On arrival we were booked into Lot 4 room 104 away from the dogs but could still hear them continiously - what a mess this was - the showerhead was full on muck - the casing over the bathroom mirror was broken and wires were open to the elements - the light bulb must have been 10watt cause you couldn't see beyond your hand - the view from the balcony was piece of waste land.
Complained to the management as no rep available at the time of booking in - they stated I would have to wait till 4.30pm before could speak to hotel management for possible move as hotel fully booked up - it was now 1.30pm - they approached me again at 2pm and moved us to another room which I found out belonged to the hotel in another block overlooking quiet pool with all the mod cons and a magnificent view.
Sofa bed in the living room and 1 bedroom with single beds - mod kitchen with microwave, toaster and oven
Nice decor and well presented.
This compensated for the first room as if we had had to stay there it would have spoilt our holiday.
Didnt expect a palace for the price we paid however expected cleanliness and safety.
Thomas Cook need to update some of their accomodation in this hotel.
The complex itself was good and the kids club even though ended part way through the week due to end of season was enjoyed by my 7 year old son.
The pools were clean and due to season you each had a sunbed to use.
The pools were cold however once in felt ok
Would definitely visit this complex again however only if we could have a hotel apartment as these were far superior than the Thomas Cook block.

| said: This was our first visit to the Algarve and we stayed at The Vilarosa because of the great things we had heard and read about it and we were not disappointed. When we arrived at the Vilarosa we were dealt with efficiently, by the reception staff, who were courteous and friendly. Our aparment was very clean and suprisingly large for a one bedroom apartment. The pools and the sunbathing area around the pools were very clean and the staff behind the bar were excellent very friendly and helpfull especially Suzanne and Reuben. Our son who is ten enjoyed the kids club and also during the day there was a lovely Portugese lady who came round organising things like football, tennis, waterpolo, water aerobics which my son also enjoyed. On a night time we would nearly always go down to the strip for a meal and then come back to the hotel bar to relax have a few drinks. There was entertainment on in the bar everynight which was a bit hit and miss but we didnt mind as while we in the bar it gave our son chance to play pool with friends he had made. The only bad thing about the bar was the price of the pool tables, three euros is a bit much to pay for one game. We had a fantastic time at the Vilarosa and have already booked up for nexy year. One thing I forgot to mention is that they have a lovely restaurant on site Rodrigos an all you can eat buffet and if you go for the more expensive meal (the brazillian) the food is out of this world.

| said: We stayed at the Vila Rosa during the half term and it was virtually empty.
The staff, Suzanne, Carlos and Eduardo are fantastic, friendly and always happy. We could not fault them at all.
The food that was sold at the bar was basic burgers, chips, lasagne, etc but nice and always freshly cooked. The on site restaurant was very nice, all you can eat for 19euros or you could choose from the menu, not too expensive with the manager paying you full attention.
The holiday season didn't really start until the 1st June and as we were leaving on the 2nd it did start to get busy.
The holiday reps who ran the kids club could have had more get up and go, and even though the kids clubs are included in the holiday price they do charge extra for certain entertainment such as slumber parties, but a great idea for parents to enjoy a quiet {on site} meal.
All in all we had a great time even though they had taken up the strip and relaid it with no thought to public saftey.
The beach is beautiful. We will go back to Portugal but we would like to try another area as we always do.

They tried their best but music out of tune and someone strumming on a guitar isnt exactly what we had in mind. Anyway to cut it short we wont be stopping in Vila Rosa again until some very immediate changes are done to the entertainment section, or prices drop to reflect the changes.

Vila Rosa is just a short walk from the main 'strip' where food drink, nightlife and more was.
The staff were always polite, the evening entertainment was a bit hit and miss as we had our stay at the latter end of the season, I was told that May and June were a good time to come to the Algarve as the nights are longer the sun is hotter and the prices are still out of season.
The Trips organised by the rep were 1st class,I would reccomend the Zoomarine ( great dolphin shows)the Slide and splash super fun for all,the Jeep Safari in the mountains was quite outstanding, if you go you must try the Portuguese evening !
All in all top class.

Excellent food. Catered for everyone.
Swimming pools were clean and well maintained. This hotel is very close to the brill beach and close to the town of Portimao. 10 minutes walking distance away. Ideal for first time away.
Would go there next year. A week is not enough time to explore this wonderful place. Would recomend going to zoomarina and jeep safari.

We had a T1 apartment very clean and loads of room it had a lift in our block wich was usefull as we was on 3rd floor.
Food was excellent from the bar area. Night entertainment did lack a little but as it was a holiday for our children they enjoyed the evenings with the reps who also was nice (well done thomas cook/jmc).
As others heard the dogs we didn't here any of that. Only through day those noisey moth type things but at night they shut off.
It was my first time there and we loved the people and place so much we have booked again for the 5th of May for 2 weeks this time so we can really enjoy it.

Praia Da Rocha is a stunning area and I would love to go back soon. The Vilarosa appeals to all Football Fans as there is football played all day in the main bar area. 2 large TV's and one massive screen, my partner was in his element.
The beach is huge and stunning and plenty of sunbeds. Great food up in Praia da Rocha strip. About 10 min walk at the most.
If you love good food, I suggest the Sitting Bull up on the Strip, the food is out of this world. Plus the Chinese above one of the pubs is great to.
The only down side is that Portugal is not cheap and everything costs around the same as it does in the UK, apart from fags. Other than that it was a top holiday and I would advise others to go.

We just walked in and were remembered from last year. Rooms are spotless, food is fab. Location is great, the strip is a nice 20 minute walk away. Close enough but far enough for a nice quite holiday.
We didn't venture much at night because Villa Rosa has everything you need. The kids can run about and you can sit and enjoy yourself knowing that they are safe and can't go far without you seeing them. We love going a walk through local Praia da Rocha.
There is so much more to see than just the strip, although it is great for holiday makers. But hey don't take my word for it get booked and you'll be on here next year with the same views as me.

| said: The Vila Rosa is lovely, with beautiful grounds and everything that you need i.e. shop, bar, swimming pool. There were two swimming pools, the main one by the bar which seemed and the smaller one, which was great, had a bar next to it and seemed to be for adults as oppposed to children.
Our appartment was clean and tidy and very big. Too big maybe!
The only downfall for us was the entertainment in the evening. Aimed mainly for kids. We saw a show they put on when we arrived, but did not think much of it!
However, the accommodation is only a 5/10 minute walk from the main 'strip' so we spent most of the evening there.
Definitely visit the Vila Rosa again if we were to go to Praia Da Rocha again.

| said: Vila Rosa is a lovely family hotel.
The pools are excellent, clean.
Staff are very friendly & helpful.
The bar food was reasonably priced, always delicious & always served promptly. If you want a "decent" sized coffee ask for a cappuccino by the pool, they much bigger than the non-takeout coffees!
The distance from town is fine, it's a nice walk, especially when you've just stuffed yourself full, although it's a bit steep on the way back, when pushing a pushchair!!
All that said our 2 weeks were PLAGUED by barking dogs. We were in block 23, facing the garden the dogs are in and every time anything (person, car, leaf!!) passed they would bark and bark and bark. These are two German shepherds so it's not a little bark either. They barked all through the night, we couldn't nap on the room because you could never get to sleep and we had to keep the doors shut in the evening because of the noise.
Another problem we had was with the apartment which was the worst equipped we have ever encountered. Just a hob to cook on, no microwave or oven. The cutlery consisted of knives, forks, spoons, one wooden spoon and a sharp knife. We had to buy a corkscrew and bottle opener. And essentially had to eat out all the time except breakfast. The balcony was a foot wide so having a table and 4 chairs on it was just having a laugh. Having said that we had a look at the timeshare apartments and they were fantastic, fully fitted kitchen, large balconies, some even had gardens.
If we came back to Rocha we would stay at Vila Rosa, but in the timeshare, which (strangely) is far away from the dogs!

My family and I have gone to this resort since 1999 and continue to do so. They work very hard to keep the grounds and pool in a very clean condition. The enterainment is not all that good early in the year but better in the hight of the season.
The bar staff are great with the kids nothing seeems to much, we even keep in touch with the staff on a regular bassis, you should definately stay here.

Cleaned to a top standard.
10 min walk to beach shops and bars, only problem is barking dogs we were in block 22 they only woke us twice so 8/10 for quiet, staff lovely.
Not much entertainment in town so if that is your thing or your kids stay at hotel bar they will love it and so will you, all in all 8/10 for this holiday.

| said: Cannot fault the Vila Rosa Apartments. We have just returned from a fantastic family holiday where alot of relaxation was had by all; 2 adults plus 2 children (14 and 3). Do not go with expectations of plush 4 star accomodation and you will not be disapointed, remember you have only paid for 3 star.
The Vila Rosa is friendly, clean and not over-crowded. The pool area is ideal if you have little ones as you are able to sit around and keep watch while they spend their time in the pool. The apartments are about a 20 minute walk away from the main resort and it is over a dual carriageway and up a hill but taxis are always available and only cost a couple of pounds, if you don't feel like walking.
There are some excellent eating places if you are willing to look for them and ask advice. The Atlantis restaurant in Praia da Rocha comes highly recommended. The Marina is also worth a visit if you enjoy sea-food.
The resort of Alvor (approx 10 minutes by taxis) is well worth a visit and has some really nice restaurants aswell as a very pretty beach.
Praia da Rocha was one of the first resorts on the Algarve so it is an old resort. The beach is massive and alot of Portugese holiday in Praia da Rocha.
We would definately take a trip back.

We loved it so much that we booked it again within a fortnight of arriving home. It was great for our son (aged 4), he could run about all night with the many friends that he made and not get by us and out the door.
The staff were fab the best I've ever met. The holiday reps were fantastic, we hadn't even had our introduction and my son had the reps up dancing and singing , the kids were never a nusiance to them. The pools were brill but cold (May).

| said: We originally booked to go to Club Praia de Rocha but 3 days before we were due to go I stumbled across this website and read dozens of bad reviews about the hotel. I luckily managed to change the booking to stay in Vila Rosa. And it was the best move I ever made.
We were travelling with a 6 month old baby and had requested a cot. I had convinced myself that there would be a problem with this on arrival and as it was late and we were all tired, I didn't need any problems. When we told the staff on reception our name they said "ah yes, you requested the cot didn't you, we've been waiting for you to arrive"!! A good sign!!
We got a personal tour of the hotel grounds. And when we arrived at our room, we couldn't believe it! It was huge!! We stayed in Block 4a (room 208), and had heard lots of rumours about dogs barking during the night but I didn't hear anything. Rooms are cleaned 6 days a week with new towels twice a week. Perhaps a small downside was that the hotel doesn't have any lifts. So if you have a baby, or maybe struggle with too many stairs better hope you don't get a room on the top floors!!
The staff were helpful, friendly and they love babies/kids. The pool was nice and big with clearly marked sections for kids.
The food in the hotel was fine if you were just after a quick afternoon snack (jacket potatoes, lasagne, etc). The bar also has a big screen and shows loads of football!!
The location is perfect, nice and quiet but within 10 minute walk of the main strip with the bars and resturants.
Onsite there is a resturant called Manjar. We had the nicest meal i've had in a long long time here. You must try the Meat Fondoo (you get a mini BBQ type thing and raw meat to cook yourself - brilliant!!)

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't see the entertainment as we preferred to walk into the town at night so I can’t really comment on that, the little I saw was reasonable.
The location was ideal for us and just a short walk from the lovely restaurants, beach, town and marina.
The rooms were very large and clean, with the addition of an electric cooker which I had never had before on a holiday abroad. The only down side was the towels were only changed twice a week. I would recommend you carry an extra few towels.
We had a brilliant holiday at Vila Rosa.

Its position was okay, we found it to be in a very quiet and relaxing area.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, but found the bar staff were very slow to serve you.
Don't know about the food as we ate out all the time and didn't go to any entertainment in the complex so cannot rate it as we went up to the main resort at night, as it was only a short walk.
The only thing that I didn't like was the doors to the balconies, they locked okay but we didn't think they were very safe for young children as they could unlock them and there was no other way to lock them to prevent this from happening we were on the second floor. We had to tie them shut in the end. Apart from that we found it to be okay and would have no hesitation in going back again.

I must comment on how helpful they were, even though this will probably make me sound really fussy! Our cooker broke after we had been there for a few days. We went to reception and they helped us move into a new room with a different and working cooker. This room was smaller and only had two hobs rather then the hobs and oven we had in the other room. So again we went down to reception and without fuss they took us back to our old room and brought in a new and working cooker. They were really polite to us, even though we were making a fuss. Very impressed.
The location was good, not too close to the town and beach, however not to far away either, just perfect! And the entertainment in the evenings was varied and brilliant. However I don't think the same could be said about the kareoke! Hehe.

| said: The Vila Rosa is an attractive complex centred around a fairly large swimming pool with a large children's pool. Nice grounds, with lots of grassy areas and large sun terraces. One minus point - they could do with another 50 or so sunbeds. People reserve them even though there is a sign saying not to. However, we always managed to get a sunbed. It's just annoying when people lay their towels on at 9 a.m & then disappear off until after lunch! There is a permanent security guard 'patrolling' the complex (but not in an 'obvious' way!). There is a lovely poolside bar/cafe with tables inside and out, which serves in our opinion (and that of other holidaymakers - as it was always full!), delicious food. Just regular stuff e.g. cheese & tomato toasties, jacket potatoes, omelettes, nice kid's food etc. Oh yes, and freshly squeezed orange juice! All the bar staff are very friendly and helpful. A special mention to Adriano (sorry about spelling), he worked from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m every day, in the little bar kiosk up on the 'bridge' and he was always very polite and friendly.
We had a one-bedroom apartment (No. 202 in Block 4) which was HUGE. A very big lounge/diner with a sofa bed (and pull-out bed underneath), a small kitchenette, a large twin bedroom and a decent sized bathroom. And a lovely big balcony. The apartment was very clean and the maid service was 6 days a week. The only downside to the apartment was it had no air conditioning. However, once you left the apartment to go out in the evening there was a nice breeze so perhaps air conditioning would have spoilt us for that breeze! My mum & dad were situated in No. 204, and there apartment was similar, just slightly smaller. We were obviously allocated a larger apartment as we had 2 children with us.
There is a minimarket on site (again, friendly staff!). They stocked most necessities, however we think they could have 'made a killing' if they'd stocked a few more items. (there werent any other supermarkets in the immediate vacinity).
There is a games room with 2 pool tables and other typical arcade games etc.
There is a lounge bar with a sort of dance floor (!) where they had the entertainment. Talking of the entertainment, we enjoyed the karaoke nights (twice a week), another night there were a couple of guys singing who were quite good, but apart from that we went out in the evenings.
There is a JMC kid's club at the Vila Rosa, with 2 lovely reps - Claire and Ashley. The club ran for 2 hours each day (except Saturday) and 3 times in the evenings. Our daughter enjoyed herself there, although it was hard to drag her out of the pool sometimes!
Oh yes, almost forgot, there is a another pool away from the main pool, which looked very nice. It looked much quieter as there were no kids splashing around in it. There was another bar here aswell.

We have been to this resort before and we have seen some fantastic changes to the resort and surounding areas.
The rooms are cleaned on a daily bases and if you ever have any problems in the room the staff are very acomodaiting and will sort out the problem.
We always go self catering and find that all the utensills required are supplied.
The location is great only a short walk to the beaches and resturants. It is very quiet at night and therefore very relaxing and very good if you have children.
The staff are fantastic and they seem to be the same ones each year which is impressive, and they remeber regular visitors and are happy to see you again.

| said: Having now stayed at the complex 5 times I can categorically state that we think it is a super place. The complex is always clean and tidy and the food from the Club Ben bar is simple, cheap and delicious.
The complex is a fair walk from the beach - up a rather large hill and crossing a fairly busy road - but it is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the "strip". Disabled and those with young children might find this a problem.
The staff are all brilliant. We have never had a problem with any of them and they are always helpful, happy and fun. They are especially good with children.
The entertainment on a night can be mixed. We've had quiz nights, kareoke, singers and a magician. Not all were brilliant but it can be fun if you want a cheap night in.
The main pool has a great kiddies pool and in the busy times the pool bar is open from early morning until about tea time.
For those who like a little bit of peace the other pool is much smaller and caters for the timeshare apartments that are part of the complex. This pool can be used by anyone and has a shallow area for children -though it is more for the older ones. There is a small bar here as well and you can buy sandwiches as well as drinks.
The complex also has two very well kept tennis courts. If you take your own rackets and balls there is no charge for playing but you must book the court in advance. This is done at the office near the timeshares.
All in all agreat little complex.
Tip:
If you want to go under your own steam you can book direct with them - they actually selectively rent out some of the timeshares when they are not in use. These range from studios to a really big 4 bedroomed one. The quality of the accomodation in these is even better than the apartments in the main blocks. Depending on numbers and flight costs this can work out much cheaper.

I small pool was lovely and the girl who worked at the snack bar was excellent..
The only problem I found is that you couldn't get near the big pool due to all the kids been there.
The rooms were spacious and cleaned.
The quiz night was a scream and the cocktails were fantastic..
I will be back next year.
