| said: I’m just back from a 6 day break at this hotel.
This hotel is situated right on the beach and pedestrian access is through an underpass from the main street under the railway track. There is a road outside the hotel which is accessed from either end of the resort.
It is advertised as a 3* hotel and it is maybe just that.
It is a smallish hotel, with a garden, patio, small swimming pool, hot tub, childrens’ pool and access to the beach. There is an outside snack bar that opens in the morning, till lunch, and in the afternoon till 6.30pm.
Unlike other AI’s there is no food served after dinner finishes at 21.00. You can also get drinks at this bar during the day.
On arrival, at around 9pm the check-in was very smooth, and we were in our rooms within 10 minutes. They operate an wristband system for those on AI, so I would advise you to ensure that it is left wide enough for you to be able to take it off if you intend to sunbathe, or more likely to leave the hotel.
Our rooms were very clean, but although the hotel had only been open for 2 weeks before we arrived, the décor was very tired and it did not appear as if any work had been done over the winter.
The TV, toilet and a/c all worked fine, but the only English channel was $ky News. . No hairdryer in the rooms. The rooms and hotel in general were all kept very clean, with maids working all hours.
The food was well cooked and presented and there was the usual variety i.e. a fish dish, pasta, meat dish; plenty salad and fruit. I saw the “famous” horse sausages on display one day but chose something different. I never really have liked the taste of horse meat! The drinks in the restaurant during meals are self service and you can help yourself to beer, wine and soft drinks.
The inside bar was fine with the usual daily cocktail and varying measure sizes of the vodka depending on who served you and the staff were friendly enough and treated us very well. They use cheap plastic disposable “glasses” for all drinks which was a bit of a nuisance, and their insistence that you could only get 2 drinks at a time, even when we were the only 3 people in the bar, was a bit of a pain.
The entertainment, which was outside most nights was nothing special, the usual mixture of quiz, disco etc. they do have a parrot show though, and if you have not seen it before you should not miss that.
The only problem that we encountered during our stay was with the electric. Power went off in some rooms, mine was affected 3 times during my stay, including a complete power cut throughout the hotel. I don’t know the cause but it would concern me if I wanted to book there again.
There was also a problem with some of the hot trays in the restaurant for the latter part of our stay, so they could not keep all the food warm on that part of the buffet.
This is a small and reasonably friendly hotel with the advantage of being right on the beach. I booked this as a cheap break and got exactly what I expected.
Unfortunately, the electrical problems I experienced would put me off rebooking this hotel, as would the general 2* air of the place, but other than that it is a cheap holiday and you get what you pay for.

| said: Altough all inclusive the food was awful was served up pigs cheek and what was apparently dodo! bar snacks are stale buns with hotdogs, cold pizza and chips.
First room had a mouldy bathroom ceiling so were moved to one with a used plaster in the shower!
The staff were miserable couldn't look any less like they want to help or even be there.
entertainment is poor the highlight was the parrots.
Karaoke nearly every night. Very loud no good for kids.
There is a small town centre by the train station which is nice also there is a seafood restaurnt across the road from the hotel which is lovely the paella was beautiful!
The subway to Malgrat town is scary with graffiti all over the walls. But at least it gets you away from this hotel.
I would never ever go back here!

| said: After reading previous reviews we were aware that the bus would drop off on the otherside of the road and the subay would need to be traversed so we booked a cab prior to leaving the UK and when we got to the airport it couldn't have been easier the driver was waiting and sped us off to the hotel.
Reception was fine and the staff friendly and helpful, they had a great command of the language and explained the necessary in detail.
Off to our room, this was on the ground floor and it was a bit of a shock to find ourselves only the distance of a a small patio area from the bar and entertainment. However, with a drink and a relax we realised that actually we had a prime spot to sit and watch while being that little bit way from the main throng. The room was clean enough with the smallest bathroom ever but once you got used to sitting "sidesaddle" this wasn't a problem.
The staff at the hotel work extremely long hours and boy do they work hard. There has been reviews that said they were not very friendly but we didn't find this to be the case, many times we think that they were just so busy to hold a conversation.
The food wasn't great but there wasn't a day that we didn't manage to find something to eat. The staff in the dining room were helpful and friendly and if anything was brought to their attention, like the wine had run out, they were on it straight away with a smile.
The entertainment was poor but they made an effort.
All in all for the price we paid it was a great holiday, the sun shone for the whole week and that makes a difference.

| said: Upon arrival we were aware we would have to make the journey to the hotel via the subway - this did not concern us (subway was clean and we had no problems with it) Upon arrival at the hotel, although the lobby seemed small, it appeared professional we were met eventually by a smiling receptionist who checked us in and gave us a list of what can only be described as "rules" we were also provided with wrist bands and given strict instructions that we must wear them.
When entering our room we were struck by how small it was but at least it was clean (although as non smokers the slightly stale smoky air and ashtray were not too attractive - we were not offered a non smoking room) Having read through the rules we found the room safe to cost 24 euros for the week (6 of which was the deposit) on closer inspection we realised this was not actually attached to anything so although it was locked someone could have wandered off with it! Also you had to pay 20 euros to get the remote for the TV - you will get this back at the end of your stay. Warning, there is a particulartly early check out time of 10am. One of the lights in the room was not working, on reporting this to reception we were handed a light bulb, with a smile. We also reported a smashed fire alarm which was on the 1st floor corridor on the second day of our stay upon leaving 6 days later this was still broken!
Our room was not cleaned until 3.00pm, yet we were regularly woken at 7.00am by the shouting cleaners.
Moving on to the food, it was disgusting, from the caterpillar found on the lettuce (how many poor souls have eaten this?) to the horse sausages and the chips, chips and more chips there isn't much more that can be said.
We don't normally fuss about the food as you can only expect so much from all inclusive but this was awful. The only night we were able to eat suffcient to class it as a dinner was on their Gala dinner night - they appeared to be clebrating but we were not sure what!!
The staff that worked in the restaurant were overworked but very friendly (some staff in particular worked everyday of our stay - all day - this is not 9-5!) Location was good for us as we went on holiday with the sole intention of lying on the beach all day - the all inclusive drinks stretching to the beach was a bonus.
There was nothing that can be described as entertainment, the 2 members of staff that provided the kids entertainment again seemed to work all day everyday of our stay. The gym was rediculous the machines old and no variety.
In short we would not return to this hotel!!!

| said: A great hotel, we have a 3 year old and 18 month and had a fantastic time.
It was exceptionally clean and our room was spacious enough with twin beds(!) a single for the little man and a travel cot, two pushchairs and the furniture! There are no drawers so you have to get creative (bedside tables and the desk) but a large wardrobe with a shelf.
The food was great, lots of it, snacks were fried hot dogs, chips or pizza but an abundance of ice cream which kept our boy in heaven! A good choice at each meal time with fresh salad and cooked foods which were refilled and replaced so you didn't have things hanging around.
Sometimes there was a small wait to get into the resteraunt but only a few minutes and it never really bothered us.
The pool was small but big enough for kids, adults, inflatables, games, swimming and splashing around in the shallow end for the little ones. There are limited sunbeds around the hotel but there are grassed areas you can lie on and a large patio area. Plus the beach is right outside and a fine shingle which still makes good sandcastles and isn't horrible.
The sea does dip but there is plenty of wave space before it gets to that for jumping and paddling and if you want to swim I guess you don't need it to be shallow anyway.
Entertainment was limited but it was fine and I guess it depends who is there and who wants to join in, the kids all seemed happy enough.
The only problem we had was getting to the hotel when we were dropped off because you have to go across the road via a subway and with large cases, hand luggage, two pushchairs, tired and sleepy babies, tired parents and drunken people outside bars at midnight it was a nightmare and the bus driver lady wouldn't even wait whilst a man offered to help us across to the hotel (5 minutes)fortunately a spanish guy helped. Just be sure you can carry your luggage or get a daytime flight!
The subway was fine the rest of the time and kept the hotel isolated from late night drunks and noise but still close to town for bars, resteraunts and shops.
A wonderful holiday, three star hotel and a great deal and you do get what you pay for but this isn't in any way negative!

| said: This is the second time we have been to the Amaraigua Hotel, we stayed here for a week last year as well. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable, as we stayed here last year we contacted the hotel and asked for a room in a certain part of the hotel and got it. The hotel cleaners work very hard and are always somewhere in the hotel.
You do have to go through an underpass to get to the hotel but this is great, you are right on the beach and can enjoy the All Inclusive whilst on the beach unlike most of the hotels in the resort where you are stuck with the choice of the beach or hotel, it also means that you are not bothered by lots of noise from the street as you are away from it, but if you do want to go to the town it is only just through the underpass and you are there, the underpass itself is cleaned every day and unlike the ones in the UK you don't feel at threat walking through them.
You will not go hungry, there is not a great choice of food as it is only a small hotel, but there is always something to eat, we had a three course meal every evening and you can do the same for breakfast and lunch if you so wish.
The bar staff are great, once you are there for a couple of days you don't even need to order the drinks, they are generally making them as you walk up to the bar.
The railway station is only 5-10 minutes away and from here you can get to most places along the coast, we went to Barcelona for the day, it took just over an hour to get there and only cost 6 euro each for the return journey!!
We will be going back again.

| said: Hi, My Family and I have just returned home after being on a one week all inclusive break to the Hotel Amaraigua. As an honest, plain speaking Yorkshireman, and after reading other reviews, all readers who expect 5 star accomodation, and 5 star food at 3 star prices, should move on immediately. Sensible people are invited to read on.
My Party included my wife, my two sons, (30,21) my son's partner and our 3 year old grandson.
So, we came with Fleetway, and despite some minor pre-travel arrangement problems arrived at the Amaraigua.
The weather was overcast and it rained a little, second day the same, but then the Sun came out, and hung in there for the rest of the week.
Please don't think I am mad enough to blame the travel company or the Hotel for the weather, although I am lead to believe some do.
My main tip is not to change english money at reception, they offered 1.30 euro per £sterling, elsewhere in the resort we got 1.44 ( May 11th).
Looking over at the ratings and starting at the top, my experience of the Hotel is that it is clean, we stayed in rooms 131 and 133. We did however experience some problems with mosquitos, and would suggest purchasing creams, a plug-in air freshner type of anti mosquito device, or as we did a newspaper. (lol)
Now no-one can like all the food, but there was always plenty, and a variety of different foods to suit all tastes. So particularly on an AI break, no-one starved.
The Location I felt was great, yes we had to 'cart our cases' under a subway affair, that was due to the Train Line between the Hotel and the main resort, but we were at the right side of the track for the Beach, and had fewer worries about our 3 year old getting run over. As to him drowning on the other side, that is where Grandparents come in (lol) never fear it didn't come to that. The Beach unfortunately was of the 'gritty' variety, but was easy to knock off when getting dressed to return into the Hotel.
The Hotel Staff we found were great, ever helpful, and the drinks and snacks when required were always there and in abundance.
The entertainment, I felt was not for us as adults, Karioki?? and a few other Mr & Mrs type of thing, plus Quizes, but it was there, and the kids mini disco, always a feature in Spanish hotels, did it for the kids. Also saw pool,(snooker), Table Football, but didn't see the Darts which was on the entertainment board, and no Table Tennis (this I found very dissappointing as it is one of my favourite holiday sports) As for the Pool for swimming, a very small one in the grounds.I always thought there was one on the roof, but didn't bother to venture to find out. So I'm not sure. We also visited the small Gym (oooh not for me), this comprised of Gym Mats, Cycling Machines, Wallbars and some kind of 'sit up' equipment.
On Cup Final day I managed to find myself a pub and a good seat to see Liverpool pull off another great escape from a very disappointed, but sporting West Ham. Oh yes, the television in our rooms, you need to be German or Spanish to benefit having them on. We don't normally go on Holiday to watch Tele. The Cup Final was a definate one off. Chelsea or Man U and I wouldn't have bothered anyway.

It rained for 6 days out of 8 which would have just been bearable if there had been entertainment on for at least the children. I do not call 1 girl with old colouring books and crayons entertainment. As for the adults a 15 minute game of bingo also was not satisfactory.
When we where able to get out the only way to anything was to take our children over the railway line so as you can guess we stayed in.
The food was ok but the same things over and over again.
As I write this we are still waiting for Fleetway travel to respond to our holiday from hell.
Our advice to you if you are looking to book don't especially if you have children no matter what people tell you there is nothing to do!

Location was okay apart from underpass that they never informed us about dangerous to walk.

This hotel is by far the worse I have ever stayed in lights switched off at midnight if not before.
Chairs and tables are not to be moved if you do bar staff refuse to serve you.
Our rooms 205 & 203 were one of the better rooms, when it rained the cellings & walls were wet, part of the celling fell to the floor, clothes and beds felt damp.
The rooms were cleaned every day.
The food for the most part of the holiday(10 days)was not fit for pigs even though every day and every meal there was pork not much of anything else. We had fried eggs 2 days out of 10. Left over food (there were loads) turned up later in the day battered.
Hotel location was right on the beach. But the only way to reach the hotel is by underpass, we were not told of this at time of booking if we had we would not of booked this hotel as 3 of us have trouble walking and one has to use a stick.
This underpass was under water up road level on our day of departure we had to scramble up the railway embankment over the railway lines down the embankment over a 3 foot wall onto the pavement, the road was also underwater all this with cases, hand luggage and a walking stick not a easy escape. Staff no help, we were unable to have any food or drink on the morning of departure as the hotel was flooded.
The day before we left hotel staff were handing out bin bags to put on your feet, and waiting for new guests with towels to dry there feet on.
All blankets were fetched out of guests rooms to put on floors to mop up the floods (I hope there is not a cold spell this week) this is a hotel from hell.

| said: This hotel was an absolute joke.
The food was disgusting, which as an animal lover would not of fed to any animal. Snacks every day, well if you like bread rolls (dry) hot dogs, chips and pizza which were re heated every time therefore they were full of grease.
Room massive but only because they had to put us in a family room because on arrival they did not have us booked in or on the transfer from the airport, so after many phone calls between myself and booking agent I was eventually left in the family room.
On the Thursday of that week a carrier bag was missing from my room after maid had been in to clean (allegedly) I went to reception staff who were very unpleasant and explained that the bag contained 2 new books and 100 cigarettes I was told no way would their staff touch any residents items but where did the bag go is the 64 dollar question. I was then given the phone number for the police which she knows I would not call as I don't speak Spanish and completely washed her hands of my complaint. So asking would a ever return not even if hell froze over, should anyone want to send an enemy then this is the place to book them in. Borstal or prison food would be better (well let's put it this way)couldn't possibly be any worse.
I am still in process of writing complaint to booking agent so will keep you guys posted of out come, ie will they wash their hands of my complaint.

The hotel was located on the beach and there seemed to be a lot of bars and shops situated around the hotel.
However when checking in the staff behind the reception didn't seem interested just handed over the room keys and that was about it. When we went up to check out the accommodation the door frame was hanging off and there was a cot in the room which made the room very cramp indeed. I went down to reception and told the receptionist of my complaint. He came up to inspect the room and said he would move us. The receptionist went round four different rooms before he handed us over the keys to a big sized family room.
The room had air conditioning, two small balcony's, a well cleaned bathroom. My only complaint was the room smelt of damp.
The AI was quite good snacks and food very simple.
The pool and sun area was small but well kept on a daily basis. We ate out a lot in the town of Malgaret which was very good.

| said: When we first arrived and walked through the hotel doors I was quite suprised at how posh the hotel looks. I must admit though we got transferred from a company called Fleetway and since the hotel is on the beach side you have to cart your suitcases under a subway which took us ages cause we had to keep stopping as our arms was dropping off!
I am quite a fussy eater but I thought the food was lovely, it was quite basic ie a meaty dish, fish dish and there was always chips. I couldnt quite understand why you could only have fruit juice at breakfast though!
I thought the staff was extremely friendly (prob because we were 2 young girls in our 20's!!!) and always greeted us with a huge smile and they got to know what drinks we like in the day and of a night. It was great popping to the poolside bar and taking a cocktail on the beach with you. We had glorious sunshine everyday which was great!!!
I didnt really think too much of the entertainment, being 23 I was a bit old for the so called 'mini disco' and Ithought the main entertainer was very stroppy and unfriendly!

Our room was a family room with plenty of space although we did not have a balcony it did not bother us, but we did hear some rooms were small.
The food was fine and plenty of it. The only problem with the dining room was it was too small, so if you came down 5 mins after opening you had to wait until someone came out. If you waited for about an hour after opening there were plenty of tables.
Hotel staff were friendly. At times reception staff were not very helpful.
Great location, only problem was caring cases through underpass not easy for the elderly but not too bad for us.
Will go back to this hotel with family, maybe 2 years time.
Entertainment was poor so I would suggest looking elsewhere.

There was no entertainment well nothing of great interest anyway and what was on at the night didnt start untill late.
Your not aloud to stay in the bar after its closed your are shown to your rooms. Then woken at the crack of dawn by the cleaners who obviously dont know how to be quiet or have respect for others sleeping.
On exiting the food hall please wear gas masks as the smoke is horrendous in the bar which is situated directly outside the food hall??????
Lots of rules and regulation in the hotel no fun is aloud exception: children aloud to run wild at the wee small hours of the night knocking on doors, waking others and nothing even said to them.
You get charged for cots 3 euros a night so beware
Enjoy your stay at the Hotel Amaraigua.

| said: Opening the door to our room I felt my face drop to the floor as I looked at a very cramped and dingy looking room with adjoining en-suite with chipped broken mildewed tiles. Tripping over the ripped lino and squeezing past my husband I went to have a look out on to the balcony. The hotel is quite small with three floors. We were lucky because we had the beach side. The other side looks out onto a railway track and the street. The trains come about every 30 minutes at least and you can hear them from the beachside as well but not too loud. Downside of facing the beach is that the “entertainment” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be joking. The stage is a piece of mdf !!!!!! is also quite noisy if you want some peace. Fortunately we like a late night and went through the subway to the bars on the other side of the track.
Unpacking the clothes I could hear our two kids in the room next door to us and I could hear laughing (who could be cheerful in a place like this?). When we went in our son was trapped in the bathroom because the lino in his bedroom was stuck in front of the door and our daughter was in stitches over it. Well I thought it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re not all in stitches walking on these floors by the end of a fortnight. Yes unfortunately, a fortnight. If you do want a laugh though, well a hysterical one anyway, then go down and have a look at the gym. Be careful walking on the uneven floors though or the only iron you’ll be pushing will be your crutches with your broken legs. Also check out the dirty Jacuzzi and small pool.
As I lay in bed that night listening to the trains and counting the squashed mosquitoes on the walls I thought I am so glad we have at least hired a car. There are some lovely beaches to visit and nice restaurants if you like sea food. Oh and on the subject of food, breakfast is the same every day no fruit, no yoghurt, but plenty of sausages, bacon, beans and eggs. If you are thinking ‘Well I like those’ then I challenge you to eat them every day for two weeks then you will soon change your mind! Lunch and dinner are ok’ish but very repetitive with frozen chips thrown in and surprisingly fruit although I don’t know why they can’t put fruit out in the morning. Also don’t expect anything fancy like a carvery or anything like that. Snacks are frozen chips cheap pizza or a hot dog. Drinks are cheap and nasty although there was no queuing (I’m not surprised).
We especially had one bad day when we were caught in flash floods. There were sirens, police, fire brigade and ambulances everywhere. We couldn’t get back to the hotel through the sub-way as it was full to the roof with water and we couldn’t drive through the underpass because it was also filled with water with a car under the water, its roof just visible. The only way to get to the hotel that day and the next was to go over the railway track and the hotels had opened the fences so we could do this. Can’t blame the hotel on the weather though but it was not nice. The third floor was flooded and water was coming through the ceiling on our floor.
On a change of note there are three good things about this hotel. One is that despite needing an upgrade it is clean. Two is the air conditioning and the third is that it is situated right on the beach. The beach however is one long boring one with nothing to explore and the sand is like gravel. The short staffed people working at the hotel are very kind, polite and courteous despite working every hour God sends.
They say you only get what you pay for and that is true with this hotel which is cheap. Next time we’ll pay the extra and hopefully will be able to enjoy time in our hotel as well as out.

| said: Hotel was basically clean and tidy although very small rooms. We were situated at the front of the hotel a stones throw away from the railway line and could tell you the times of each train and dustcart and road sweeper and what time the clubs finished at night, impossible to sleep! Plus we had over 100 mosquitoes sharing our room with us and we were bitten really badly and had to try more than one repellent to avoid this problem.
Food was fair and a good variety for everyone although we did get a bit sick of the hotdogs, pizza and chips. Alcohol was poor and you could drink all day and into the evening and still be fairly sober and we are not normally heavy drinkers!
Location is good if you have a sea view as to being near the beach but if you have the railway view we feel sorry for you!
Staff were excellent apart from one bar staff who was rude and kept pestering for tips all the time.
Entertaiment was pathetic only geared up for kids when they did actually turn up unlike the parrots.
We would definitely not visit this hotel again, in addition to this the pool is just an oversized bath and the Jacuzzi a shower tray.
A fair description of this hotel is not 3 star but one in need of a lot more than just a lick of paint. Although this is not their fault we had storm which flooded the hotel peoples rooms were flooded the hotel manager was insistent that the residents clear away the water that was approx 6-8 inches deep, the bar was then shut, children were petrified and the whole place was chaotic.

| said: Firstly I have to defend this hotel, as I read some awful reviews after booking, which worried me no end espescially, when we have 4 children, I must put you all at ease and let you know that the hotel was kept clean, the food was excellent with a huge variety of choice, it was impossible to get hungry over our stay.
The hotel was in an ideal location, arm stretch to the beach, some reviews spoke of sloping down to the sea being not children fiendly, yet there were flat areas of the beach perfect, within a 20 second walk.
The staff were friendly and efficient continually topping up food levels over lunch and dinner, meat, fish, salad and lovely fruit in abundance.
The entertainment was perfect for family amusing, musical and friendly. kids club were cool and a lot of creativity for the young ones and sporty games for the older kids, no complaints.
Finally I would visit again.

| said: I unfortunately couldn't find many reports on the Hotel Amaraigua before I booked with Fleetway Travel, the reviews I found all seemed to be bad ones, that is why I feel the need to defend and give my opinion on this lovely hotel.
We were 3 sisters aged 27, 24 and 17, and we had no complaints on the accommodation (basic but comfortable), cleanliness (rooms were cleaned everyday) and the entertainment (not for our liking but ok for a few drinks in the evening mostly aimed at children and although people were complaining all the kids were running around with smiles on their faces!).
The Hotel is situated directly on the beach which is amazing, and we had no problem getting a space and sunbed (4 euro), unlike if you want to stay around the pool, spaces seemed limited, but we are beach people anyway, we only had to walk a few yards from the beach during the day to get our all inclusive drinks and food from the Hotel which was fantastic.
Daytime snacks consisted of chips, pizza and hotdogs 10:30 - 12:30 and 2:30 to 6:30pm, lunch is also served buffet style in the restaurant which has alot more on offer. We found the food fine and had no complaints, we on the other hand are not fussy eaters and were happy with the choice of soup, salads, pastas etc. I know that a few guests did not like the food but they still were there at opening time filling their plates up and eating it. If you are a fussy eater maybe all inclusive is not for you and a b&b basis would be better so you can go out for dinners in the buzzing resort a very short walk away.
There were plenty of restaurants within a 5-10 min walking distance and we ate out a few nights (no complaint to the hotel but we are the type of people that don't mind spending a bit of cash on holiday to get dressed up and have a nice meal and a large jug of sangria!!).
All drinks finished at 11:30pm in the evening and the hotel basically shut down at 12:00 which wasn't so bad, some parents felt the need to again complain that drinks weren't available after 11:30pm but personally I don't think it is such a bad thing considering they had children with them.
For young groups of people there were plenty of bars and nightclubs a short distance away if you wanted a night out.
Hotel Amaraigua was a delightful find and I would definitely go back for a weeks holiday in the future. For the price you pay it is a cheap and cheerful and good value for money place to go for a week in the sun what people seemed to forget is that if you want luxury you pay for luxury and the Hotel Amaraigua is not and has never been advertised or priced as a luxurious holiday hotel.

Our board basis was all inclusive what more could we have asked for the food was amazing. The standard was very high, a great selection of different foods to suit all we enjoyed the breakfast and the fresh fruit especially. Although the lunches and dinners were great also.
The location of the hotel couldnt have been better. Out the back you step right onto the beach and out the front you are right on the main street, noise was never a problem either.
We had a slight problem with our toilet but the staff soon found a resoloution to that, we were immediatley transferred to a better room the staff are very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. They obviously have had loads of experience with the public.
Entertainment wasnt bad, it was relaxing for us/ There was something different on each night but if it didnt suit you on the night then you are right on the main street plenty of other bars and different things to do.
I have booked my holiday for a family wedding in Cyprus this year and I can assure you if it wasnt for the wedding I would definitely have gone back to this hotel.
I have two children and its a place I would take them also for a great holiday.

| said: I had checked this site before we visited the hotel and was worried about the food. The location sounded excellent.
However the holiday was relatively inexpensive for all in and I was aware after receiving the tickets that we were travelling with Ryanair. Therefore I checked things like baggage allowances. Most holiday companies now have dropped to 15 kilos anyway. The hand baggage allowance is 10kilos. So if you do need to take extra then pack with it in mind that you just need to transfer some of your normal suitcase luggage to your hand luggage. That having been said Fleetway did not really advise of this.
The hotel was reported as being clean and out beds were made up every day. However the sink was not cleaned until I moved some of the toiletry items away from it as a helpful hint.
The air condition thing is really annoying and it did seem that it was just a way for the hotel to keep its electricity bills down.
Also on check in the reports about friendly staff seemed to be going well until the phone rang and we were dropped like flies and left standing for 15 mins whilst receptionist was on the phone.
The safe in the room is a must for us but was disappointed to be charged to use it. After all - It was there anyway. Another money thing?
The food was as we expected having visited this site before we went. Although it was not to our taste it was all edible but the chips did help to pad out the meal!! After a day or too I did start to fell like I was turning into a chip though!!! The snacks for all inclusive guests are a joke, what made it worse though is how serious the staff were about it. The two drinks thing was also daft as when the child in my party stepped more than five feet from me they would not allow him to have and carry a drink and made me go back to the bar a second time as I had had my quota.
The lights going out at 12 was annoying but understandable. People could have sat there making noise all night but for the folks who wanted to get some sleep if you were facing the social area it could have been very noisy so cant please everyone.
If you are clever (and I was) visit the bar a few time before closing and stock up on free drinks. But be aware that if you want to sit on the balcony to eat them the lights there are controlled by the same master switch!!!
The plastic glasses were not a big deal as I would rather drink from them than have broken glass in my feet. But the drips that come from them are the problem. Beer mats would be good to absorb some moisture as drips on the clothes became irritating.
The location is great if you are a beach fan. If you are not then the hotel does not have enough sunbeds. Although if you take something to lie on then folks always seemed to find a place on the grass to relax. No Sun umbrellas are a problem. For example the child in our party wanted to play in the pool all day but this involved one of us adults having to sit in the roasting heat to keep an eye on him. Getting into the pool could have been an option but as the place had lost of families the pool did tend to be a kids domain. Good pool for them though apart from the steep slope.
The staff were mixed, some of the barmen were arrogant and kept shaking the tips box when you went to the bar, as this was all in I tended to not carry money to bar with me (it was not necessary). This begging came across as rude and also made me feel unwelcome at times. Another barman was very friendly and another was very rude. The other one we say was somewhere in between. At one point a child went into the bar and helped himself (he was clearly something like the bosses son). I found this worrying that he was given more respect than the holidaymakers.
The girls that ran the so called entertainment were very poor and spent a lot of time moaning in front of guests. The kids entertainment was just a joke and the daily disco was the same every night. This could have been ok for kids as it would have meant by the end of the holiday they knew the "macarena" but the girls had no energy and were completely lifeless talking to each other whilst they faffed their way through another chorus of whigfields "Saturday night".
When it came to adult time it was so bad that I would be wasting my energy to comment, however I must mention the quiz where even they got the answers wrong but thought they were right. The British girl could speak Spanish which she persisted to show off.
I must mention the train track, the social area of the hotel is going to create noise on one side (hence the lights going out). The trains create noise on the other, I opted for the sexy ear plugs and generally slept well!
Despite the negative comments which are so much easier to remember than positive comments, I actually would go back here.
We paid for a cheap holiday and got that. We never actually went hungry and there was always a good measure available at the bar. There were pubs across the road and although it was not ideal the underpass was necessary to access the hotel. (The train track is not really the fault of the hotel).
We did not actually do much but relax on holiday and a walk to the shops or the older part of town kept us busy and if this is what you are looking to do then great go for it.
Food - fine, room - fine, staff - fine, everything fine. Nothing special. A week in the sun.
There was a mix of people there. Mostly friendly so thanks to them we had a good time. (Vic, Janis, Jake and Don, Paul and Felicia. Neil and Maureen) Other folks too. Friendly place.
Interestingly I heard lots of folks complain, but it never stopped them from taking advantage of the place. Seemed to me like they have to cost cut somewhere (electricity etc) as the price we paid for what we got was fair.
My job takes me to 5* hotels in the USA every week, I could be snobbish about the place. But at the end of the day the hotel is just fine.

| said: Just back from a week at this all inclusive hotel having travelled with Fleetway travel via a Jet2 flight. Guests in our party were aged from 5 to 64 years old – nine in total.
In writing a report, serious consideration must be made to the low cost element of this holiday (in comparison to Airtours etc) as it was cheap holiday during peak season.
The flight with Jet 2 was excellent, despite being a ticket less airline; seats were allocated at check in (unlike Easyjet).
Transfer also was straight forward with only our party on the coach and took about 1hr 10 mins, although the coach did not have air conditioning. On the return journey we had a 12 seater minibus and this was a struggle to fit nine passengers and all our luggage plus buggy – but we did it! The only comment I will make is that we were not pre-warned that the hotel is inaccessible to vehicles taller than a car so we had to be dropped off over the road and left to struggle with our cases under the underpass (beneath the train track) and down a tarmac road to the hotel. This is a struggle – especially if you have children in buggies and lots of baggage.
The hotel.
Check in was straight forward and we were all ‘tagged’ with purple bands for our all-inclusive privileges.
Our room was modern, clean and spacious with a good sized balcony over the train track. Be warned – no sets of drawers! This made clothes storage a problem – especially if you had a wardrobe with no hangers. However, another party members’ room was on the corner and had no balcony and was cramped but staff were able to juggle and move them down the corridor to another room. However, whilst we were there, other guests tried to move and found it problematic due to being full.
Our room was serviced everyday but linen was not changed.
Mosquitoes are a real problem, both in the rooms and sat out on an evening, so go prepared or look like a plague victim. Another problem with the room is on your key tag is a key soldered on for the electricity. This needs inserting when you are in the room, however when you leave and lock your door – your electric goes off along with air con and mosquito repellent plug. Unless you find a way to unsolder the key you get a warm room full of mossies. Another electricity associated problem is power cuts. We lost electricity around 25 times during our 7 days (12 times in one night). This is claimed, by staff, to guests plugging in hairdryers or turning TV on.
Food.
Very small selection for the three meals and I was getting a bit bored after three/four days. Though the food was warm and edible, just repetitive and due to poor selection a tad boring. The chef must have a cook book entitled ‘150 ways to batter or breadcrumb food’ as whatever meat or veg we had at one meal would turn up battered at the next! However puddings were excellent with a wide range of fruit and blancmange. Also the ever open freezer of tubbed ice cream.
Snacks.
vailable from pool bar 10am till 12.30pm and then 2.30pm till 6.30pm and was enforced strictly. Hot dogs, pizza (not the nicest I have eaten) and chips were offered plus ice creams. Coffee available 10am till 11.30pm and water from a self serve cooler (no bottles to be filled!!).
Drinks. All inclusive drinks strictly 10am till 11.30pm. In the dinning room a self service system worked. Elsewhere friendly waiters served you a range of alcoholic beverages and even cocktails – ask for the list as waiters tend to be a bit possessive of it. All drinks (that is everywhere at all times except the fruit juice at breakfast) is served in small plastic cups. I believe due to previous problems of glasses being smashed and children getting cuts. This did tend to annoy those without kids. Also adults can only get 2 drinks at a time, children 1. Ice is bought in – so no upset tums.
The dining room is too small for the 110 rooms and at busy times you may have to queue up outside for a table.
Staff are very friendly and understand some English but smile at those who attempt Spanish.
Noise is a problem on a night but with doors closed isn’t too much of a problem.
Gardens.
Not enough sun beds for guests and no umbrellas for shade. You can not move chairs to sunbathing area - waiters reinforce this.
The pool is very small and cramped at busy times – especially if kids go in with lilos. It graduates down a slope quite quickly and after about 7 strides is too deep to stand up so non swimming kids need adult supervision/armbands. Forget trying to swim as unless it is empty, it is just too small. A number of children got ear infections whilst at the hotel so watch out. There is also a Jacuzzi at the other end of the sunbathing area.
Entertainment.
Well I would rate this as the main problem with the hotel. There is an outside courtyard with tables and chairs with three ‘pallet like’ wooden boards that constitute a stage. A mini disco started around 8.30 for 30mins lead by the ‘entertainer’ a very friendly English girl of around 25 years of age and maybe one or two other hotel employees. After this music was left playing till later in the evening. The ‘entertainer’ then returned to invite guests to the stage to play games. Sometimes the games lasted 10 minutes (the adult balloon popping or the one house bingo that started at 11.10pm ran over last orders). The only outside entertainment was the parrot show where guests were charged 10 Euros to have a picture with a parrot – rip off. This was the worst entertainment I have ever seen in twenty five years of foreign package holidays. During the day the ‘entertainer’ provided crayons for children to colour or played ball games on the beach.
During one my son found a used condom – so not ideal. It got so bad we took our children to the Monte Playa over the road and my children were given certificates and entertained by professionals there.
Beach.
Sharp sand, cooling breezes clear blue sea. However, two sunbeds and an umbrella cost 12 Euros for the day. The current was strong and the beach sloped into the sea very quickly. Beware of jelly fish, plenty about and very painful.
Resort.
Malgrat is clean and has a range of shops and local areas can be accessed by the efficient train network (station is 5 mins walk along front). There are lots of places to visit and activities galore. There are shops which sell goods very reasonable and if you are a smoker, cigarettes are very cheap. The markets sell clothes at very cheap prices – haggling obligatory! The underpass is a pain – especially on arrival.
Summary.
Despite the negativity above, we had a good holiday in a very clean hotel. The food was edible though a bit boring. Met some lovely people - guests were 95% British with the odd few Spanish.
Would I return to resort? Probably not due to beach/sea not being child friendly. Would I return to the same hotel? If the price was as cheap then yes as it is good value for the price paid, I would just be prepared for the dismal entertainment – though on the last night it was a lot better so could it be improving???

| said: We are a couple on our first anniversary and a birthday (wife’s), too. We were a little concerned at the lack of reviews on this accommodation and had to rely on what little there was including a hotel owned website. Don’t be fooled by the website, it looks worse than it is in the photos.
Firstly we booked through fleetway travel via the internet and although the price seemed fine - we did find it had lots of hidden problems and the worst being it was Ryan Air carrying us, NEVER again. Never having flown with them before we were prepared to give it a go despite not knowing who the carrier was to be until the documents arrived 10 days after booking. The hidden extras were lack of baggage allowance - we were 6kg over (we are used to having 20kg each not 15kg) that cost us close to £30. Ended up leaving stuff on the return journey to avoid the excess baggage charges Ryan air are keen on charging. We did opt for the taxi transfer rather than coach transfer but it wasn’t quite as cheap as was quoted by the travel agent - however we did learn through experience that the best option when travelling by taxi was to get the “non airport” taxi services - ie go past the white ones and opt for the private hires further up the line of cars. It should cost less than 40 euros (for the 35km journey) but the airport ones charge a fixed fee of 50 euros. The return journey was also done by private taxi and was correct.
As far as Ryan Air is concerned we did fine the ticket less airline to be a farce as we were at the end of the queue for nearly 2 hrs despite being there an hour earlier than required. And if you are unlucky to be over the allowances you have to go and pay at a separate desk and then rejoin the queue. Further when we did get to go to boarding we were sent to the wrong gate as they had changed it without telling anyone. No seats allocated either so it’s an “it’s a knockout” style “free for all”
Very expensive food on board too £15 for two baguettes and two drinks. Take your own is our advice.
On arrival at Girona airport the fleetway rep was precious little help - and all we wanted to know was where we went for the taxis.!!!!!!
On to the accommodation “The Amaraigua Hotel” formerly known as the Santa Susanna Hotel - supposedly three star but doubt it. First of all I must say that the Spanish Management team here are at best abysmal. Most do not understand English which I find very strange considering that this hotel is primarily for British guests.
They showed a distinct lack of concern over major health and safety matters especially during the instances of “accidents“ here. In less than 7 days we witnessed one head injury requiring 8 stitches, one severely lacerated ankle (down to the bone) due to a dodgy drain cover, one fatal heart attack, one young child sucked into the Jacuzzi filtrations system, and a gashed wrist. All without exception met with derision and lack of concern by Spanish management. The first aid kit such as it was a disgrace - under lock and key and never available, no operational first aiders - no-one - not even the lady who tragically lost her husband was allowed to use the hotel phone and worse still the reception was asked to call the ambulance or a doctor when the heart attack was at the chest pain stage - it never happened - and 45 minutes later on enquiring about it more lack of interest - tragically that poor man died but it is felt had the phone call been made when asked he could have been alive today. DISGRACEFUL. They should be ashamed.
Putting that aside - if you haven’t already decided not to go here - the room we had was great small, but comfortable - a great sea and beach view - the best room in the hotel - ROOM 214.….. Bathroom small, small bath with shower - so if you like baths don’t go here. Hot water is a bit hit n miss too. Air conditioning brilliant. Some rooms are infested with ants, our room floor wasn’t swept or mopped for three days despite complaints, similarly the basin and toilet weren’t cleaned either and toilet rolls ,must be in short supply. If you are travelling with a family opt for a family room as many rooms are very small - some people couldn’t get into bathroom or onto balcony or terrace without moving furniture. If you have teenagers don’t go here either - they will be bored silly within 48 hours. The All Inclusive option was ok but have had better - always plenty of variety, but chips every day - we only had one other potato option in 7 days. The Spanish could learn a thing or two from the Tunisians and Turkish. Drinks although plentiful and good measures are served in plastic cups ---- prefer glasses - I can understand around the pool but indoors and the communal entertainment area at night NO. The entertainment for adults at night is poor - we went out most nights - the mini-disco for kids is Ok and they seemed to enjoy it - the three girls who entertain have a very hard job to satisfy all but could be much better given more to work with. My impression about this hotel is that it is run with a very tight budget to the detriment of its customers. You cannot get a coffee before 8am when the restaurant opens for breakfast and the bar shuts at 1130pm without fail. Snacks aren’t available after 6pm. Don’t be fooled by the Parrot show either - what show!!!!! An opportunity for the Spanish to con you out of 10 euros for a photo taken without seeing it first……!
Its only redeeming feature in my opinion is its location literally on the beach - no roads to cross, very close to the best range of bars some 4-5 English ones - The Robin Hood and Rovers Return very good and always lively. The Black Bull is quieter - the Legends pub is good too and all serve Stella, John Smiths and Fosters. All do breakfasts and good food. All very congenial as well. Along the front are the shops and usual tut type tourist goods.
Its about an hour to Barcelona from Malgrat railway station (about 15mins walk form hotel) and costs 5.70 euros return and takes you right to Playa de Catalunya - the heart of Barcelona and only a hop skip and a jump to La Rambla with street entertainers and fine café bars and restaurants. At the end of this is the port area - A very fine city and worth a days visit. Marineland is apparently very good too if the kids like the water and you get good weather.
The weather was brilliant about 28 degrees on average fine and sunny with only one day of cloud, but still very warm.
Overall my advice Go to Spain by all means - Go to Costa Brava too just pay the extra and get some quality, don’t travel Fleetway, don’t travel Ryan air, don’t go to this hotel.
We made the best of it and had great fun with Nick and Bekka, Lorriane and Ian, so cheers guys hope we keep in touch

The rooms were small. They only gave you one key that is attached to another key that is required for the electricity to work.(The problem being you could not have the power on and lock the door at the same time...this was a problem at night)
The entire hotel was tiled which made it clean, but extremely noisy. The walls were paper thin (I could hear the man in the room next to mine snoring all night)
The worst part of this hotel was the food. If that is what you want to call it. You could not tell what each dish was. If you like chips your all set. Most of the days the meat was undercooked and the veggies were over cooked. The only thing worth eating was the chips. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!
Thank God for one of the pubs down the road (Robin Hood pub- they took great care of us- they had great food, great drinks and awesome staff- who were very accommodating!)
- We are from the US and our standards are a bit higher than those of this part of Spain.

Food! well if you like chips you will be okay. For all inclusive there were no snacks available after 18.30pm, not much of a salad selection either, snacks that were available during the day were chips, deep fried hotdogs, and pizza so if you have colestrol problems give it a miss.
Looking ideal as it is on the beach not far from the station.
Staff pleasant enough but the entertainment is none existent.
Our room number 17, boiling water comes through the toilet constantly, was reported but not fixed an accident waiting to happen, so be warned...

The "entertainment" we had was karaoke on the Tuesday night, that was it!! There was absolutely no entertainment for kids which meant they were constantly whining and annoying thier parents.
The food was appalling, greasy and badly cooked. Both my wife and myself were ill for two days and decided it was definately food from the hotel.(Seems to be a common complaint). We ate out after that, even for breakfast.
Not excactly what you want on an all-inclusive holiday.
The one thing it has in it's favour is that it is on the beach and even in October we could sit out and sunbathe all day and keep popping back in to the bar for beer.
All in all, steer well clear!!!!!

| said: Just arrived back from a one week all inclusive holiday. Could not fault the hotel:- it is on the beach and directly opposite all the shops and cafes. It is extremely clean and the maids came in each day to clean and change towels. We were amazed at how quickly they resolved problems. Our air conditioning was out of order but within 1/2 hour someone came to the room to repair it. The only problem was that there was no enterainment but that was because we had gone on the last week of the season. Apart from that we all had a fantastic holiday and would certainly go back to this hotel again.

| said: My husband got food poisoning which appeared to be from the pork ribs he ate that lunchtime in the hotel. The result of this was an admission to hospital via ambulance.
The hospital in Calella was very good, but they do not let you go in with patient until they have been treated, which took 4hrs. It was very scary as the medical staff spoke little English.
However, the hotel staff could not do enough for us when we returned. They were very sincere and worried about my husband.
Location would be great if it was the Summer! Make sure you have E111 we did, and it only cost, doctor - 70 euros + free medical treatment with holiday insurance.

| said: We have just returned from one week's all inclusive holiday at hotel amaraigua. The room was basic but comfortable and all importantly clean and clean towels every day. The air conditioning wasn't working and when this was reported at reception was sorted almost immediately. With this being a smaller hotel there was no queuing up at mealtimes for making toast etc. There was also a smaller choice of food but everything was well presented and enjoyable. On the whole we had an excellent value for money holiday. The only negative aspect was the limited entertainment - certainly nothing laid on for families with kids.

| said: This was a last minute deal I booked with a friend for a week in the sun. The hotel was very clean and staff nice. The standard of food however was disgusting! The food was full of fat & oil and it was difficult to recognise what it was so supposed to be! Breakfast and snacks were safe options, although you do get fed up with pizza, hotdog or chips everyday. For most meals we decided to eat out. We were both well during our stay but heard of a few people with tummy upsets which is not surprising considering the quality of food. The saving grace of the holiday was being right on the beech and only 1 hour from Barcelona. We would certainly not go again.

| said: The hotel Amaraigua is an excellent hotel. We paid very little for our all inclusive holiday and were pleasantly surprised at the standard of the holiday.
The hotel is situated right on the beach front and close to the shops and nightlife, though you weren't disturbed by noise.
The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. The manageress in particular went out of her way in order to try to help us go to the Salvidor Dali museum, and though we weren't able to go (as the train journey was complicated and didn't have our driving licences to hire a car), she stayed past her normal working hours in order to find us something else to do. Barcelona is only an hour away on the train and makes a great day out, especially if u see Gaudi's Sagrada Famillia (an unfinished cathedral which you can explore)
Yes, there are chips available at every meal, but there were also meat dishes and salads/vegetables. At the price that we paid we were also able to eat out in other restaurants so we managed to have a variety. At the bar they had all sorts of spirits and made cocktails on request.
The hotel is extremely clean. Like clockwork the staff carry out a cleaning routine each morning on the floors and windows outside, and we noticed that our towels were changed every day.

| said: We booked cheap late holiday in August, looked for some reviews on computer was a bit worried by some of them, didn't know what to expect was pleasantly surprised!!
The room was clean; the food was enjoyable plenty of choice at all meal times.
The location is superb.
Most of the staff were very friendly & helpful especially when I needed to see a Dr.
The hotel was very clean on the whole. The only down side were parents letting their children run riot up and down the corridors and in the lift.
Apart from the weather it was a most pleasant and relaxing holiday.
The entertainment could do with been looked at, it was quite boring.
On the whole it was excellent value for money.

| said: I found the hotel very clean and tidy, the food was really nice always something for every, my cousin never stopped eating which is very unlike him, the location was superb just walk out the hotel to the pool then a 5 second walk to the beach, I know they said beach front hotel but this was great. The staff were so friendly and always saying hello and playing with my 10month old baby. I have to say though that the entertainment was not up their with the rest of the hotel, some were very good, but if you didn't like it the bars were across the road with a big childrens play area down the road, a fun fair 2 metro stops down and barcelona 1hr away which was great.
Definetly go again actually visiting sister hotel next year let you know how that goes

| said: On the whole the hotel was pretty clean, however, towards the end of the holiday some adverse weather caused some problems with the drains, water supply and electricity in parts of the hotel. The problem with the drains left a pretty bad smell for about 24 hours in the corridors.
The food was OK, but we felt it was better earlier in the week, but gradually got worse. The snack bar only does pizza, hot dogs or chips, every day. However we all loved the snacks, especially the kids, but a bit more variety would have been nice.
Can't complain about the location. Just a few feet away from the beach.
Most staff were very good, but some of the bar staff were a bit obnoxious, choosing to carry on conversations with one and other rather than serving customers. Most of the bar staff didn't look very happy to be there.
The entertainment wasn't very good. There were many differing groups on holiday including couples, families, but an all male party embarked on a 2 day long drinking spree and became pretty raucous.
Overall, this was a last minute, fairly cheap holiday, and with that in mind it was OK.

| said: We are just back from a holiday at the hotel above. If you like chips and beer then you will get on fine however the rest of the food is pretty poor. The only part of the day we enjoyed the food was at breakfast time. Both myself and my partner came home with a serious stomach bug we think from the food in the hotel.
The hotel is actually a 2 star but as it is on a beach it has been ranked a 3 star. It is clean enough and the staff are friendly but 4 young lads jumped the man that cleaned the pool so I don't think they will be as friendly now.
The only saving grace is that you are 20 feet from the beach where we spend our entire holiday, 20 feet in the other direction from the beach is the bar which was great.
As this was a cheap deal you really only get what you pay for therefore if you don't like the food you can afford to eat out.

We had a lovely holiday... food was very good but perhaps not all British people would like it as there was 'real' food and not just fast food from a poor British diet!!! There was a variety of fish meat veg and salads. Very good value for the money. The hotel was very clean. The entertainment wasnt very good.

| said: We paid very little for this holiday and were a little concerned when we read some of the reports left by others. What more do people want? The food and drink was good, the staff were brilliant with my kids...we hardly saw them as they were off at the kids club with the reps!!
The rooms were cleaned every day which I think most people will agree is very rare...especially for the price we paid.
There was loads of info available about places to go and the staff were very helpful. The entertainment wasn't fabulous..but I cant decide whether that was because alot of the adults didn't want to get involved!!! Plus, we went early June and we don't think it got chance to build up.
I would definately go back to this hotel....and probably stay longer...We have paid alot more for a holiday and got a lot worse!!

| said: Hotel Amaraigua was in an excellent position right on to the beach.
The food was very repetitive and if you don't like pork you are in trouble!
There was not much entertainment in the hotel and the little bit there was it was quite poor.
Our air conditioning was not very good, the room however was always clean.
As there was only 2 of us staying in the room it was fine, but it would be very cramped if there were any more people staying in the room.
