| said: Stayed at the Serita Beach hotel in Anissaras. On arrival the two twin rooms booked were not available so for the first night all four of us had to share a room. The following day we were allocated our new rooms at about 12 noon.
The rooms are quite adequate but a little basic. The rest of the hotel was very clean but the main bar always smelt of diesel.
Getting a drink after 6 pm was a bit of a joke because residents were not allowed to use the bar which was waiter service only. We found the only way to get a regular supply of drinks was to tip the waiter at the beginning of the night.
The resident entertainment team put on the worst shows imaginable. And on 2 occasions ripped the residents off by selling raffle tickets and bingo cards at 10 euros each.the top prize being a club t shirt and free cocktail.
So beware...food was very repetitive
consisting of spaghetti, cheap cuts of meat and there is absolutely no choice for children. The best meal was found to be at the poolside restaurant which served pizza and kebabs. However this is bookable a day in advance.
Also be aware when around the swimming pools as the tiles are very slippy and whilst we were there two people needed stitches the pools are very deep with no shallow end so watch the children very carefully or let them use the children only pool.
The location is on the sea front but the beach is very rocky and consists of shingle the sea is very dangerous due to under currents and hundreds of sea urchins which deliver a painful sting.

| said: The accomodation was excellent very clean and spacious. the hotel staff were very friendly and the cleaners were excellent. ther was a differnt choice of food every night and plenty for the children to choose from, the location was a bit out of the way but there was regular buses if you wished to travel into the surrounding towns. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. the entertainment was very good considering the amount of different people that were there they tried to accomodate everyone. The entertainment staff were fantastic with children always willing to talk to them even when they were off duty!!!! The beach wasn't that good but with everything at the hotel pools etc, if you wante a beach there was a free bus to take you to the nearest safe beach. The pools were salt water pools but always very clean, around the poolside the tiles were very slippy but the hotel did warn us of this and it is only to be expected with tiles so you just had to take care and no running around poolside.
We would definatley vist this hotel again it was the best holiday we have ever been on, and the children said the same if we could afford to go away agin this year we would definatley visit this hotel again.

| said: The pools are salt water & filthy with grime...The entertainment area/reception has only two ladies cubicle toilets,& after one night of a full hall these were disgusting & from then on I used my room.In the main restaurant the food was very poor, small selection and served cold...because they only bring out a little at a time you end up waiting for your main meat while your veg has become cold, lots of flies too.The pool restaurant was a better selection but this also was cold & they ran out of supplies very quickly. At the time of our stay the majority of guests were French so this is what the entertainment was also, couldn`t stand being in the hotel after two nights of French all night, by the second week the Germans had arrived also.
The nearest town for other entertainment is a short taxi ride costing around 8 euro. The beach outside of the hotel is tiny with a small jetty with sand & shingle completely not child friendly.
I would highly recommend that you not visit this hotel, I will not be returning ever!

| said: This hotel is very poor. The only positives are the excellent bar waiters and the helpful chambermaid, otherwise forget it.
We were forced to spend the first two nights in an adjacent hotel due to overbooking, and boy did we wish we could have stayed there for the whole two weeks.
The air con overflow water ran into the television and/or across the balcony until eventually the maintenance dept. cured it by bringing an empty ice cream container.
We, too, saw many people in bandages and struggled to stay on our feet on the wet tiles by the pool.
The worst problem of all is thew noise from the club/disco which drowns normal conversation on the terrace. after the disco finishes, the drinkers then scream and shout under your rooms, as these are mostly all above.
What a nightmare!

| said: Having just returned from the Serita Beach I must say how disappointed my husband and I were.
It was booked as a 5 star but I would have only rated it as 3. Don’t get me wrong it was very clean, no trouble there at all, but the restaurant! Well that was a disgrace! No fridge for any cold foods such as cheese, cold meats, salad, yoghurt, dried fruit, fruit desserts. Not even covers on any of them. There were flies on everything.! I watched once as I waited to get some toast (only one toast machine for whole hotel) and watched a load of flies enjoying an apricot.
The only fresh fruit was melon(had to make sure it wasn’t flies instead of pips)quarters of oranges, again my husband had a piece that had a dead fly stuck to it, grapes and apples. Tinned apricots, peaches and fruit salad. Also dried apricots, prunes and dates. No fresh figs or anything like that. The yogurt was in a large bowl, uncovered, and just stood on the side with everything else. The deserts where beautiful except they where also warm and a chocolate mousse in a bowl once a spoonful had been taken out it just collapsed into an awful mess. Same as the cakes. All they had above these foods was a ceiling fan about eight feet above it.
The food was mostly the same everyday lunch and dinner. Except one day we also had turkey another moussaka and so on.
At breakfast you could have boiled eggs, omelette, fried eggs and pancakes. All cooked fresh. Best meal of the day.
We thought on the whole the staff were ok except for a couple.
Entertainment was awfull! Swimming pool area very slippery and saw people each day slip over.
No water sports what so ever as the "beach" was just a few stones and larger stones on the edge of the sea, and it was rough. If you wanted to see the water sports you had to ask to go down to Rinella Hotel about 20 mins by car.

| said: The hotel is not a bad hotel but we would definatly not go back. The food was a disgrace!! No choice whatsoever very boring if you didnt like salad or spaghetti.
The bar staff were lovely but the entertainment staff were awful.
One night there was a christening and we werent allowed to use any thing so we had to go out and pay for our meal where the food was much nicer than the hotels. They were up till 2am and we were only aloud to go to the bar till 12am. Not happy with that at all!
The pool was a good pool but very slippery. I fell over twice and cut my leg just walking by the pool in my flip flops. Very dangerous. especially 4 children.
The location was nice apart from there was no watersports which we thought we would have and no beach. It said a nice sandy beach and all there was were a pier and a few rocks it was rubbish.
Definitly would not go back to the hotel although Crete and Hersonnissos were nice and would visit there again.

| said: We have just returned from two weeks at the Serita Beach, and were very disappointed. The hotel is rated in Uk brochures as a 4 star, but would just about scrape a 3.
Overall it is a clean hotel, but many areas are in need of refurbishment.
The pool area is absolutely lethal, we saw 4 serious accidents which required hospital treatment and stitches as well as numerous falls. These were both adults and children and they were all just walking along, not running. Some matting could address this problem.
Overall the staff are great, and all helpful especially Katarina and Yuargos in the snack bar, but the manager is rude and aggressive to all.
The food is diabolical, both my husband and I suffered from food poisoning and required the doctor within 48 hours of arrival. Apart from breakfast when you have to eat there the main restaurant is best avoided. Instead book to eat lunch and dinner at the snack bar, although like us you will have to live on Pizza or Pasta for two weeks, we ate out many days.
The hotel animation team try hard, but are not happy there, the hotel children's club consists of 4 hours a day drawing or painting, and very little else, and the evening entertainment is very poor.
The icing on the cake for us and all the other guests was that on 19/8 a notice appeared at reception telling us that on 20/8 the snack bar would be closed all day due to a christening. This also meant that the main pool area, kids pools, slide and playground would be out of bounds to guests from 4pm (usually the slide etc went off at 7pm). The Italians, Belgians and Dutch dutifully obliged but not us English. We spoke to the 'Happy' manager who basically told us to get lost. Then those who were with Thomas Cook called them, and they sent down a Senior Rep, who was appalled. So we refused to move, and swam in the pool until 7pm. This was not a low key Christening either, it was of lavish proportions, with elaborately laid tables around the pool, huge barbeque's cooking all types of meat and fish, and a live band to entertain. The whole of the area was flood lit, including the playground (lights were never put on in the evening for the guests, consequently more accidents around the pool, and our children had to play on the swings in the dark).
This huge event catering for 300 people didn't start until 9.30pm, and finished at 2am, buy which time another senior T. Cook rep was in the hotel to complain about the noise outside guests rooms.
Oh, and they have stopped the bus to the sister hotel, because they could not cope with the amount of guests going there to eat.
If you are thinking about booking this hotel don't do it, if you have booked it try and change it asap.

| said: Hi the family & I stayed at the Serita beach 1st two weeks of August,we were booked into a large family room (2adults & 2 boys 14 & 12).
I would hate to see a small room there was no room to swing a cat & it was in desperate need of modernising. Saying that, all you really need on holiday is somewhere to sleep & have shower so we put up with room for two weeks which the maid kept spotless & changed linen & towels daily.
There are two decent size saltwater swimming pools & 2 other pools in which the little slides go into & the bigger slide for big kids goes.
Food was ok not the best but deffo not the worst there was something there for everyone so no need to go hungry, staff very friendly especialy michaelas in the main bar & Costas down by the pool bar bot of them are funny & will have a laugh & joke with you.
Entertainment if you wanted it took place by the bigger & more crowded pool then inside in the evening which became very hot & same old hotel entertainment so we spent most of our evenings sat outside talking & drinking.
One word of warning please please take extra care when walking around the pool area as it is very dangerous tiles are so slippery & we see many accidents during our stay, but must say we met some great people & had a fantastic holiday.

| said: On arrival was very impressed with the standard of the hotel and pool area. We stayed in the bungalows facing the sea front and learned that they are more spacious than the main hotel block and better located with own terraces. The rooms were cleaned every day to a high standard with fresh towels also on a daily basis.
On the first few days, the food seemed OK in the main restaurant, but then gradually deteriorated, to the point of being diabolical on some days and I have to say that we are not fussy eaters.
The most enjoyable meal being breakfast. The omelette's and fried eggs are worth queuing for but in the second week, the toaster was out of action and with a hotel of this size, you would think of no reason why it could have not have been replaced. You can book in the taverna the day before and we all started to eat in there for both lunch and evening meals, the pizza being very nice. Also if you ask the chef, he will cook you some vary nice cheese and garlic mushrooms or cannelloni.
We found out from two old ladies (and not the rep) that you can use the sister hotel Rinela Beach where you can also book in advance into their Chinese restaurant and you are still fully inclusive. A free bus leaves for this every morning at 11am and returns at approx 5.30.
The drinks were good measures and you are waited on at your table. We tipped Michaleas from the start and were very well looked after(the one who looks like Dale Winton!)
We were disappointed with the location of the hotel as it is on a SHINGLE BEACH WITH FULL ROCKS AND THE SEA IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SWIMMING IN.
There are also lots of sea urchins and a lot of people got the spikes in their bodies. Again you can either go for a very long walk until you find any sand or go to Rinela Beach which has a lovely beach and free water sports.
The entertainment was terrible, geared towards any nationality apart from British so we all made our own entertainment which included going out in the evening.

| said: Don't book this hotel at the end of the season ie mid Oct onwards - we were looking forward to our break but had the holiday spoilt by the fact that this hotel was being packed up and moth-balled quite literally around us.
Many facilities were no longer available and they ran out of various drinks and food - everyone was complaining to the Rep and we even phoned the Companys HQ in Britain but nothing was done about the situation. Lots of very annoyed holiday makers !!!
They transferrred us all off to another hotel on our last day and shut the door behind us....an absolute disgrace !
The beach ..hmmmm - trick photography for the brochure I think - must have used the widest angle lens available.
Also the standard of the snacks available ..popcorn -not very impressed.
All in all very disappointed - if you are thinking of booking late in the season - my advice DON'T !!!

| said: On arrival at this hotel we were impressed by the cleanliness and helpfulness of the staff.
As we arrived after the evening meal had finished we were pleased to be offered bread and cold meats.
We were in the main hotel, the rooms were on the small side for three people sharing, but saying that they were extremely clean and the housekeeping staff were very polite.
The breakfasts were very good, from 8am to 10 am,the selection of food varied from cereals, fresh fruit, breads, meats, omeletes, and cooked breakfast.
If you missed breakfast there was only rolls, crisp and popcorn until the lunch time meal.
The lunch and evening meals provided a good selection of food, with a seperate childrens menu avaliable on an evening. They did serve chips on two occasions each week.
The pizza Restaurant had to be pre booked a day in advance, the food was great and it made a change from the main restaurant.
The bar and entertainment staff worked very hard, with entertaimnent around the pool during the day. The evening entertainment is the usual entertaiment that you find in an all inclusive hotel, however the entertaimnent area was very hot so we usually sat out on the terrace if a table was avaliable.
The pools were very clean however the tiles around the pool were very dangerous. In the two weeks that we were there numerous people has slipped breaking bones. We were however told that the hotel would be closing for a refit next year and this would include the pool area.
The hotel had its own small shingle beach with a jetty into the sea, loungers and umbrellas were avaliable along with canoes and pedlos which were run by a private company. When we were there the red flag was flying the majority of the time, so you were unable to use the pedaloes.
We would certainly go back to this hotel if we go back to Crete again.

| said: This hotel is spotless.
We were lucky enough to get a bungalow overlooking the sea which was beautiful. The room was basic but had everything you needed. It was bright and airy but the workmanship could have been a little better.
Food was adequate. There was always something you could eat. The desserts and variety of breads were excellent. I would have liked a little more choice at the snack bar during the day. If you missed breakfast there was very little on offer until lunch. The taverna was a pleasant change and the kids loved the freshly cooked pizzas.
We booked this hotel because it was in a quiet location and that was what we wanted, not ideal if you have teenagers in your party. However if you want a livelier night out nearby towns are only a short taxi drive away. Hotel staff we found to be a bit hit and miss.
The 'egg' man could be particularly grumpy if you caught him on an off day.
Bar staff were lovely and the animation team worked very hard. Andrea who ran the kids club was full of energy and our 9 year old daughter really got attached to her.
Evening entertainment was the same as any other hotel we have stayed in mini-disco, bingo etc. We just enjoyed sitting on the beautiful patio area outside with a nice glass of wine.

The hotel was very clean indeed with maid service reguarly. The location was not all that good as for you had to catch a taxi out of the hotel if wanted to go to another town.

| said: We arrived at lunch time, and as we all belong to the same slimming club, the lunch we selected each was lovely. The different breads and the desserts are to die for, along with the selection of cocktails from the bar too!
The hotel porter was very helpful towards the four of us, he transfeed our cases to our bungalows and placed them on the bed for us. Well worth 5 Euros each to give to him.
Being all in our early 60's we earned the name of "The Golden Girls" from the friendly staff, this was then used by other holiday makers also.
The cleanliness, each morning by the "quiet pool" we would see the ladies out at approximately 6.30/7.00am cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing.
I can say hand on heart that I have not seen a hotel where the staff clean so much. Our bungalows, (we had 1 each as the suplement was only £35 each, we like our own space at times)were kept spotless, the bathroom and the fridge in my bungalow was rather old, but I could live with that.
I am disabled and use a battery operated scooter, this I was able to leave outside my bungalow door each night without fear that it would be vandalised.
The battery was taken off and charged in my room, again the porter was so helpfull here without me having to ask he offered to do any heavy lifting for us.We all enjoyed the food, apart from there being no chips!
It was all eatable, hot/warm, what you would expect from an all inclusive package. You must be hard to please if you can not find anything on the menu to eat!The location is far out with only a small selection of tavernas and shops in either direction on the beach promanade.
A Taxi onto the nearest town is about &Euros, but always ask the price before getting in.The entertainment wasnt very good adult wise, kiddies were well catered for her by the animation team, after everything was said in 3 languages German, French then English, the same if you played the bingo too.We all enjoyed our stay so much that we are going back again in September 2006

The photo in the brochure was very deceiving showing a fantastic beach front which was not so.

| said: On arrival at this hotel we were told that we could not shower or eat as there was a 2 hour power cut. Not a good start I thought! It turned out to be a correct thought. On five separate occasions there was no money in Reception to change travellers cheques. Games room was a joke. The table tennis table was at such an angle you could not play on it. This was rectified however, by a new one being installed. The pool table was covered in rips, again this was rectified half way through our holiday. The table football was not playable as it was positioned tight up against the wall, therefore, not allowing you to turn the handles. The area around the swimming pool was treacherous, particularly for children, many of which I saw fall. I enjoyed the food, but the choice was more or less the same every day. There was no separate children's menu.
Air conditioning was very good in the rooms which had it. Unfortunately the entertainment area and the reception did not. In the entertainments bar there was a strong smell of what we thought was paraffin every hour or so - not pleasant.
It's a shame there was so many negative points, as visually it has the potential to be a very good hotel.
We did have fabulous views from our balcony of the sea.

| said: After a five hour delay at the airport, we arrived at the Serita Beach around 2am to find the hotel staff very friendly. First impressions of hotel very clean. After signing in, we were directed to the restaurant where a light salad had been laid out for every guest, which we thought was a nice gesture. We then made our way to our room, which on the whole was very clean and spacious.
Unfortunately, our room backed onto the entertainment area which seemed to have a very intoxicating smell of diesel. Having spent an hour in the room and all beginning to feel headachy with sore throats, we decided to go to reception to ask for another room. We were told that there were no other rooms because the hotel was full and to come back in the morning. We returned to the room but could not stand the smell any longer, so we took our pillows and sheets and slept the remainder of the night in the reception area. On seeing our actions, the staff were very concerned for us and after breakfast we were moved to another room - much better!
The holiday from that point on was fantastic. The pools were clean, the rooms were clean, bright and airy, the restaurant staff were very friendly, especially to the children and we made very good friends with the animation team.
The food was good, a bit repetitive at times but that is what you come to expect with all inclusive. Breakfast was excellent - eggs, omelletes and pancakes cooked to order while you waited. Food was always hot and constantly being filled up when something ran low.
I would add, that the only other disappointing part of the hotel was that the entertainment was indoors, which became very hot and stuffy at times.
In all, a good holiday. Would go back maybe in a few years.

| said: Despite enjoying our holiday, I have to start on a negative note - because that's how our holiday started. The day before we were due to leave, we had a letter from our tour company, informing us that the hotel had overbooked and we would have to spend the first 3 nights of our 7 night holiday at their sister hotel (Rinella Beach) or accept a full refund (not an option at such a late stage!). Despite the hotel offering £40 compensation per full paying passenger, we were absolutely appalled by this because we had read many negative reports on the Rinella and as we were only staying for 1 week, we felt that this would seriously disrupt our holiday. Despite numerous attempts to rectify the situation (both in the UK and at Crete airport), it seemed that we had no choice but to accept what they were offering.
On our arrival at Rinella, we were pleasantly surprised. It was busier and definitely looked a lower star rating than Serita, but the staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was clean/well maintained although our room (in a beach front bungalow) was stark and the bathroom and fridge were in dire need of renovation! The restaurant was excellent although there were often queues to get in/at the serving counters and many of the dishes were served every night (especially desserts)! As the hotel is so close to the airport (you can see the start of the runway from the beach!), there is a major problem with aircraft noise (day and night) but we seemed to get used to it after the first night.
Just before lunch on day 4, we were transferred as planned to the Serita, on the dilapidated hotel bus which all went pretty smoothly apart from having to wait for 2 hours for our room to be ready.
Every area of the hotel we accessed was clean/well maintained, the staff were friendly and helpful, and it definitely looks more elegant and upmarket than the Rinella. The restaurant was a good but we found it a little disappointing after the Rinella because it had far less choice, especially for our 7 year old son (no chips!). As the Serita is 20 minutes up the coast from Rinella, there was less aircraft noise but we sometimes noticed the smell of aircraft fuel in the entertainment room/bar. Although we rarely made use of it, there was a full entertainment programme but it was primarily in German and not everything was translated to English. It had usually finished by midnight, but we were often disturbed by noise past 1am, because our room was above the patio area and there were usually noisy guests outstaying the welcome of the waiters who were waiting to go home! There are 2 saltwater swimming pools (none of our party were bothered by the saltwater) but a distinct lack of sunbeds and the tiles around the pool are a danger when wet. The beach was virtually non-existent and access to the sea was practically impossible without rubber soled shoes - good for snorkelling though. The hotel is not within a resort but there are a few shops, restaurants and car hire firms on the entrance road to the hotel and Hersonissos is just a short taxi-ride away.
We were happy with both hotels but they each have positives and negatives, probably related to the type of holiday you're looking for.

When we checked in our luggage was taken to our room, wich was really nice and very clean, the best part was when we opened our curtains an outside was a beautiful patio, that led down to a beautiful pool and a wonderful sea view.
We had to go for a walk to look at the area, the hotel looked amazing, well kept gardens etc; we walked down to the beach but found it to be hardly any beach, but lots of rocks, not suitable for kids or adults as to get into the water you have to scramble over big boulders.
But only 5 min walk to the left of the hotel was a lovely beach.
The staff at the hotel were second to none always smiling and could not do enough for you, the food was average but there was two resturants to choose from the one buy the pool served lots of greek food kebabs of all kinds as well as pizza, there was no childrens area with burgers etc, so you might have a problem if you have fussy kids.
The bars were nice and you could get lots of different drinks as well as cocktails on the all inclusive, the hotel area is nothing to write home about as there is only on shop outside, the main town is 7 euros in a taxi but its a good town with lots of shops bars & resturants, but if you have all inclusive you dont really need to go to the town.
The children seemed well entertained as long as they were small, I think teenagers would get very bored as theres not a lot for them to do, all in all I found this hotel good and would go back again.

We were then taken to our room. It was light and airy, air conditioned and had a lovely view of the "quiet pool" and the sea. We were in a bungalow away from the main entertainment which is ideal if you have small children.
The whole hotel is spotless! The smell of paraffin was evident but I was told this was used to keep the mozzies away!
Breakfast the next day was great. So much choice, friendly staff offering tea and coffee and chefs cooking eggs and bacon, omlettes and pancakes, the latter being a huge hit with my kids!
The food on the whole is great, you won't English food, but why would you when in Greece!! They cater for all really and never run out.
There is a choice of two restaurants, the main in the hotel or the snack one, by the pool. Both are really good, just make sure you book the pool one, 24hrs before.
The Serita Beach is a little out of the way, but just a short walk away, along the beach, there is a village with shops and tavernas. For 7 Euros you can get a taxi into town, which is a great place to shop and eat!
The staff at the hotel were always happy to help, the cleaners were friendly and kept our room immaculate with clean towels everyday, beds made or sheets changed and floors mopped everyday.
In the evenings we didn't even have to go to the bar, we found seats outside and was brought our drinks all night!
Every night the animation team would be on form! We got quite friendly with two of the girls. They all kept us entertained for the 2 week stay and the kids loved them! Especially the mini kids club.
We will be returning to the Serita Beach in 2 yrs time!
