We booked to stay at Rui Cypria Resort which is two hotels, Cypris Bay and Cypria Maris. We stayed in Cypria Maris. Made very welcome, glass of cold lemon on arrival and cases taken to room. First impression is that Maris is old fashioned interior compared to Bay which is modern. Apparently Maris has been refurbished but it looks like it is ready for a refurbishment. Rooms were very clean with towels daily including pool towels.

We were soon glad we were in Maris as it is much more relaxed compared to Bay. Bay is more for young families with a shallow pool with bridges and waterfalls. Lots of noisy daytime entertainment for children and adults. Maris pool is less attractive but very deep which meant small children prefered Bay. Very relaxing and quiet around Maris pool which was also right on the beach.

Be prepared to gain weight. You can have 4 meals a day and as much drink as you want. Food was excellent, lots of variety everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Entertainment at the hotel is dreadful. Either a lady playing a piano of singers who sound like something from Eurovision Song Contest.

The Hotel Cypria Maris has now merged with the Cypria Bay to become the Cypria Resort Hotel. It is however in all essence still two hotels with shared facilities. When browsing the web and looking at brochures, you will probably hope to be booked into the newer “Bay wing” with it’s modern pool with bridges and waterfalls and it is certainly a better looking hotel. However, don’t be disappointed if you find yourself in the Maris, apart from the fact that you can use the facilities of either hotel, the less attractive plain swimming pool of the Maris is better and deeper than the Bay and less crowded. It is also nearer the small sandy beach which although not the best beach I have visited, is still attractive and if you avoid the seaweed, has some nice clean water to swim in. The best bit is unfortunately used by the Jetski company located by the hotel, but they tend to jet off from a small pier so it’s fairly safe but I would suggest you keep aware of any likely traffic, however light it is.

The hotel is clean and we were all inclusive which made the holiday even more relaxing. The local spirits though were poor in comparison to the Canary Islands though and took some adjusting to. The wine was reasonable, the beer ok but the best drinks were the cocktails. Bottled water was also free which was a pleasant surprise. The food was only okay, edible and enough choice but became a bit predictable as the week wore on. The show cooking could have been better and the pasta was quite often cold. Breakfasts were good though and the coffee was pretty good too. You have two sittings at dinner and keep the same table throughout your stay. This is actually quite a good arrangement as you don’t have to go in search of a table, although some might not like having a set time to eat. Breakfast and lunch you can sit anywhere or go to the Taverna located in the grounds of the Bay hotel next door.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. I don’t think I have ever come across a better group of hotel staff anywhere. This is everyone from the reception to the cleaners.

Beach towels are provided and can be swopped at reception. The power points are like British three pin plugs so no adapters are needed.
Rooms have a fridge, TV and a safe but you need to pay a small charge for the safe. Air conditioning is very good.

It’s a bit of a walk to the harbour, around 40 minutes but there is a regular bus service. There are shops and restaurants within the vicinity of the hotel so you don’t actually need to go to the harbour every day anyway, although worth a visit both there and to the Market in the old town. Be aware of timeshare louts though if you do venture out.

Excursions are to Nicosia and Famagusta but these are around 3 hours away so decided to leave it until we are over the other side of the island. The best excursion is to Egypt, apparently anyway, as I didn’t do it but it is recommended by others.

Weather in June was quite hot but bearable and the sun went down around 8.00pm making a nice long hot day. Goes without saying to make sure you have sun lotion on, everywhere! Obviously ignored by those with red marks on their skin. Talking of which, there were a number of people with tattoo’s. Nothing against this, but it did seem by not having one you were in the minority. The guests were generally couples aged 25 -70, some with kids but as this was in term, not too many. Pool was un-crowded and nice and warm, a real pleasure to swim in. The parasols are a bit difficult to put up, don’t be shy to get help as they do take quite a bit of effort.

The downside as noted by a few reviews is the entertainment which is quite appalling. Holiday crowds are normally quite easy to please, but I have never seen so many people walk out on a performance. They really need to improve this. There was perhaps only one or two good acts in the 11 days we were there. If you can imagine the people who didn’t get through the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, then they could still get a job at the Cypria Resort.

I think it’s worth going to this hotel although not high on my recommendations, it does give good value and a relaxing time. If you have already booked and are only now looking at reviews, don’t panic, I’m sure you will have a good holiday at this hotel.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Cypria Maris. We were booked on a half board basis but for the price of 12 Cypriot Pounds per person a day you could update to an all Inclusive Basis. Which seemed very good value. I believe the hotel will be turning All Inclusive completely from next year. The Hotel was very clean, rooms cleaned daily by friendly maids. The food was excellent with a great choice. as the Cypria Maris is not as big as the Cypria Bay next door dining was a pleasure. The Hotel Staff were very friendly. The Hotel location was the only downside. It was quite a walk to the harbour especially in the August Heat! We would definetly visit the Hotel again.

Great time. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff work extremely hard.

The rooms are cleaned every day and beach towels are provided so no need to pack them.

The bungalows are excellent for families with children as they have there own grounds and are very roomy

Cypria Maris Beach Hotel Paphos.

This used to be a wonderful hotel with beautiful gardens and excellent sea access. We were treated to ethnic dayswith samples of Cypriot outdoor cooking to try and the management cocktail parties were special occasions to meet staff and guests.

The atmosphere was friendly and relaxing and we made many friends that we meet each year to this very day. Then Rui took over the hotel and built the Cypria Bay next door. Thus Riu ruined the Cypria Maris which is now run down and used as a dormitory for the overspill from the Cypria Bay who pay for all-in accommodation.

This year even the pool was out of action. Sadly we won`t be returning after coming every year since 1995.

Can't believe some of the other reviews I have read about this fantastic hotel. I totally disagree, this is an excellent hotel.

We had a marvellous holiday there, the food is absolutely delicious. We ate in every night never feeling the need to go elsewhere. Breakfasts to die for!

The pool was beautifully clean!

Staff marvellous. We will go back, best holiday we've had!

The Cypria Maris has been gradually been in decline from the second year Riu took over the management for it from DH Cyprotels. It is being closed from November 2006 to March 2007 for refurbishment work that has been needed for about 4 years to it in certain areas of the hotel, having said this alot of the hotel is very nice, but not necessarily to everyone's taste.

The staff are always friendly but lots are now all Russian or Eastern European, they always used to be Cypriot until Riu took over.

The food is OK but their isn't a lot of choice and it is very much the same day after day. but what there is is to a good standard.

The Cypria Maris may not appeal to everybody's taste but me and my family have visited it for the past 9 years over Christmas and the New Year when it has been open and I can honestly say hand on heart I wouldn't go to a different hotel in Paphos.

When you arrive it just feels like home and you can sit around feeling perfectly comfortable unlike some of the other hotels which are all marble and bright, but you don't get the warm feeling like you do at the Cypria Maris.

First impression was of a rather dark and slightly tired, decrepid decor. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and like the reception area had very low lighting levels, only one electrical socket and no balcony lighting at all.

The pool area with its green, cloudy water was like a lot of te things in the hotel in need of updating - trip hazards like rusty manhole covers enhanced my view.

If the hotel is upgraded please don't turn it into the clinical monster next door more like a hospital tan a hotel.

The gardens with shade provided by trees plus free loungers was excellent.

The staff were on the whole friendly and willing to assist and offer advice etc.

Meals were the best part - my waisteline is proof!

Excellent food well prepared with plenty of choices.
Entertainment was dire. We escaped out of the hotel because we found the bar prices too high.

Our holidy rep. seemed to expext us to search for rathe than someone actually visiting. Our rep. seemed to be on "auto pilot" and showed no interest in us as clients unless we were spending money on trips etc.

Would we return - of course. In spite of problems we had a great time!

The choice of food in the hotel was great a wide variety for breakfast did not have anything to eat of an evening as went into town.

The maid service was fantastic the rooms were cleaned every day towels changed whenever you wanted also you are supplied beach towels which you change at reception when needed.

Found the staff to be very friendly always asked how the room was and how we were enjoying our holiday nothing was too much trouble for them.

Entertainment was practically none existent

Would return to this hotel as it is situated far enough away from the main nightlife takes about 30mins to walk to the harbour which was ok.

This hotel is in serious need of a makeover. Although the rooms are spotless and the view from the balcony excellent, its not one I would return to.

Our biggest complaint was the food, basically the same choices each evening, with most of it tastless as it was tinned or frozen. With such a lovely climate you would have thought that much of the fruit and vegetables would have been fresh.

The pleasant gardens were spoiled by the terrible state of the sunbeds and mattresses. Many of the sunbeds it seemed were as old as the hotel and a lot of the mattresses were torn, that's if you were fortunate to get one.

My family first stayed in this hotel in 1992 and have stayed here a total of six times since then, four of which have been during the last four years.

Since the hotel was taken over by Riu we have witnessed the slow decline of a once magnificent hotel with various cut backs here and there.

During our stay, following repeated complaints by people staying at the hotel regarding the 'green pool'
dependant who you spoke to on reception, you got a different explanation, eventually, the pool was closed for remedial works and returned to an acceptable state.

The loungers around the pool are now a mixture of the newish, the old and the very old. Mattresses which used to be in abundance are now limited to those who got up before 7am to reserve their loungers.

The Maris used to be a haven of relaxation, now it has animation teams trying to get you to join in all types of games. I go on holiday to relax and chill out.

The night time entertainment is very limited,it would have been nice to see some local national dancing, most people however generally went out.

One of the main plus points of the Maris is the food which is of an excellent standard.

Both breakfast and evening meal are buffet style with a large selection to suit all individual tastes. With it being the height of summer it would have been great if you could have had your evening meal outside on the terrace instead of being stuck in the restaurant.

The staff of the hotel are on the whole, excellent, especially in the restaurant and bar who have mainly worked there for many years, however, the staff on the reception can be indifferent dependant who is on duty.

The location of the hotel in my opinion, is excellent, situated in a peaceful area with access to local bars, restaurants and supermarkets. The centre of Paphos is some thirty minutes walk or alternativly you can catch the bus for 70 cents.

The day we came home we had to vacate the room at noon, with a little grovelling we managed to hold onto this until 2pm, after this they wanted more money. From this time until 5.30pm we had to endure being sat in reception with no air conditioning. When we finally left there was no acknowledgment from the reception as to whether we had enjoyed our stay and if we would be returning next year.

I now get the impression that the only thing that the hotel is realy intested in is the 'bottom line' and how much they can get out of you.

I understand that the hotel is now some twenty years old and showing its age with regards to the bedrooms and other areas of the hotel. Without future major investment and refurbishment works being carried out other visitors will come to the same conclusion.

During the last four years stopping at the Maris, we have met up with the same groups of families from around the UK and all arranged to holiday at the Maris at the same time.

Despite being loyal to the hotel over the years, we considered ourselves to be now just other tourists.

We all came to the same conclusion that there are now much better hotels in this area known, as the strip.

It is a sad reflection of this once magnificent hotel, but when we all visit Paphos again next year, or sooner if we can, that we will all be stopping elsewhere.

Where do I begin!!! Firstly am glad to be home!!! We hated this hotel!! It was a bit too formal for us.... We didn't find the staff at all friendly, infact some of the waiters at dinner were very rude and we were often greeted with a grunt!!

As soon as we arrived a piece of paper was shoved in my face to fill in, no explanation as to what it was!! Then after being given our keys we were carted off to our room, which was very clean but very old fashioned and was quite small with dark green wood work!!!

We had paid extra for a sea view which we did get but wasn't that amazing as we also overlooked the pool which was not clear blue as advertised in the brochure, it was green!! On asking about the pool we would told that this did happen at this time of year!!! I have never heard anything so stupid!! A good filter system is what was needed....

We were allocated a table for dinner which for some reason changed every night for a week. The staff were rude and need to learn how to smile!!(Men - No shorts to be worn for dinner) The food was good though with lots of things to choose from, the restaurant however lacked any kind of atmosphere...as did the rest of the hotel. The hotel bar closed promptly at 12.30pm every night even if you were still in there the lights would be turned off!! Drinks also very expensive!!

Although clean, this hotel needs some serious updating & brightening up and the entertainment really needs to be looked at!! Live singers every night is all this hotel seemed to stretch to and what’s worse was the mumbling singing, you can not escape the live singing, as it is all over the resort!!

We did not see our rep at all and had to find out for ourselves when we were being picked up for our journey home as no information was posted in the hotel, we had to go next door!!

On our last morning in our room, the hotel staff couldn't wait to come in and check whether we had used the mini bar!! At least give us a chance to vacate the room!! We hadn't of course as it was cheaper to go to the supermarket for drinks.

On checking out, not one reception member asked if we had enjoyed our stay!! And we sweltered in the heat of the lobby area waiting for our coach, we asked if the air-conditioning was on and they looked at us like we were mad!!!

We went on this holiday with our friends, another couple all in our early 30's. This hotel definitely does not cater for people of our age and on speaking to a few other guests it is mainly people who return every year for the past 20 years....not sure why but each to their own and this was not for us and we will not be returning.

We'll be off to Zakynthos next year, Kalamaki, which was fantastic the year before!!! Loads of entertainment, quiz nights, friendly staff, clean & bright and not soo expensive!! Don't think that’s too much to ask........

Great hotel, well furnished and spotlessly clean, staff are friendly, efficient and seem to have a good team spirit.

Bedrooms are roomy, bright, clean and well furnished with plenty of storage space for clothes. Air conditioning is effective and not too noisy to leave on throughout the night.

Breakfast buffet is great, all self-service with everything covered, apart from a decent cup of tea. Soon solved on day 1 with a trip to the supermarket for a box of PG!

As we were on half board, on the first night we were allocated a table in the restaurant which was ours for the whole of our stay, saves the hotel so much time seating people every evening. Dinner was self service buffet and carvery every evening and the food was great. The starters buffet was a bit limited and after 2 weeks we could have got really bored but we did eat out a few times on recommendations we had received.

The hotel is about half an hour walk into the harbour area when the main nightlife and restaurants are found, we managed the full walk on one evening, but with evening temperatures still in the mid 20's it was fairly uncomfortable, so for 70 cents we jumped on the bus into the town and walked back.

The hotel 'entertainment' was it's only downside. During the day, there is constant activity around the pool area, with the hotel 'entertainment' team trying to get people involved in everything from aqua aerobics to egg and spoon racing. For some they loved it, for us, who enjoy a quiet life by the pool with a good book, it became a bit much.

The evening entertainment is almost comical, as they employ some great singing acts, but due to their lack of knowledge of the english language, they mainly sound like Vic Reeve's club singer. When they stayed singing greek songs, it was lovely, but for some reason, they all think that the holidaymakers want to hear Abba and the Carpenters.

Despite that, I would go back to the Cypria Maris, purely because it is excellent value for money, if, like us, you want to be far enough away from the centre of the resort but close enough to use it without needing a car.

The transfer to and from the hotel were both well organised and straightforward. The hotel was excellent - very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and approachable.

The Cypriots really like to see children, our little girl was in awe of being called 'duchess'- it made her holiday! The food was excellent, with various dishes every night.

We ate out at lunchtimes, there are many excellent local restaurants/cafes in Pafos and Coral Bay. Hire a car!!! It is easy to drive in Cyprus, it's just like being at home, although possibly even easier as there seems to be less traffic.

The bus to Coral Bay, Pafos and the market passes the hotel, so it is easy to access the local ammenities from this hotel. The gardens were well kept and attractive; the pool area large enough and comfortable; the bar staff actually serve you at the poolside so that made a nice change from other hotels!

The entertainment tended to be in the lounge; more was available next door at the sister hotel, Cyprius Bay...attend if you enjoy mini disco's, bingo, quizzes and the like. Overall we had a wonderful holiday, Cyprus has lots to see and do. We will definitely return.

Had never been to Cyprus before and I think this hotel was an excellent choice for first timers. All aspects of the hotel were superb. Rooms were very nice and the maid service was excellent.

The food was plentiful and varied and so good that we both put on half a stone!!! The staff were incredibly helpful and very friendly.

Slightly away from the night life of paphos but still within easy reach by bus or taxi. Good comprehensive shop across the road selling everything (food drink papers clothes!!!....) Nice bar & restaurant opposite all in all a great place to stay

Fabulous Hotel and stay ay the Maris. From the moment you check in with complimatary orange juice to leaving was an absolute joy.

Staff can't do enough to help. They never even charged us for a room to freshen up in on our departure date.

Hotel is situated about 1.5 miles from harbour. Taxis plentiful and cheap. Bus stops outside hotel. You can use the facilities next door at the Cypria Bay hotel.

I prefer the Maris as it has more established gardens and features. Both are excellent though. Very clean and aircon'd throughout.

Entertainment extremely limited. Ranged from solo guitarist to solo pianist vocalist etc.
Summary: Excellent.

We have been to Cyprus many times, and I can quite honestly say this is our favourite hotel. The staff fall over themselves to help you. The rooms are spotless and the king-size beds are to die for. The pool is fabulous. one word of warning, the poolside snacks are very dear, but there is a great little sanwich kiosk just across the road. The food is great particularly the breakfasts and the service in the restaurant excellent.

From the minute you arrive and sip your welcome drink in the courtyard style reception you know your holiday is going to be a winner.

The entertainment is not brilliant, but you can go nect door to the Cypria Bay or take a stroll.

Any regrets? Well we only went for a week, so we have booked for two weeks for May 2005.

I first stayed in this hotel in 1995, and we liked it so much we went back the following year. Things haven't changed much in the 8 years since I last went to it, although the staff are familiar.

This hotel is fantastic.

I came here with my girlfriend on our first holiday together and we loved it. 2003 was a hot year.

This hotel is about 30 mins walk from the harbour and there is a bar opposite which we indulged in.

The first time I went to this hotel, we stayed in the main rooms itself, however last year we stayed in one of the outside bungalows which were just as pleasant if not more.

The food was good, albeit a lack of "English" touch- you don't get sausages- you get frankfurters instead.

The staff are brilliant, very helpful and they can make a mean milkshake at the pool bar!

The hotel really isn't designed for entertainment, we went into Paphos town a lot at nights, either getting the bus or walking it! But there is a bar inside and opposite over the road, and the complex did have a pool table etc etc.

This timeless hotel is lovely, and although I'm not sure I would go again because I want to try others, but for those who want to go for the first time, yes do go! PS, the swimming pool is huge!
