Just returned back from the Planamar yesterday. We went as a family last minute with my husband 16 year old son and 12 year old daughter. On arrival we had to wait around as they did not have any record of us being there. Once that was all sorted out we were quickly allocated our room. Our room was fine apart from the fact it was really small for 4 people we were practically tripping over each other, so be warned I would say 3 is enough in these rooms. Personally having gone all inclusive before I prefer the wrist bands as you dont have to go hunting for your card everytime you want a drink. The room we had was relatively clean, certainly nothing I would moan about. Location of this hotel was excellent as you basically walked out the hotel onto shops, bars and restaurants. The pool was a decent enough size although possibly really busy July and August we never had a problem getting loungers. They have a no towel policy which was great as every morning after breakfast there were always free loungers. The staff could possibly have been a tad more welcoming but they were helpful enough. We spent one of our days at Htop Royal Star in Lloret de mar difference was night and day regards the food. Food at the Planamar is not great at all, I did not think there was any value in booking the AI. Unless you want to eat chips n gravy all week then pay a bit more for the 4* Royal Star. The food was the most cheapest meats available with more bone than meat it was also really cold all the time. There were snacks which were packets of sandwiches with ham and cheese but they were left sitting all afternoon at the side of the bar so were warm and very tasteless. I have been AI a few times and always had my free Sangria but the Planamar could not make up their minds whether you paid for is or it was within your AI (In the hotel description it read free locally produced drink) Eh how locally produced can you get for goodness sake Sangria is the drink of Spain!!!! Entertainment was absolute rubbish. 2 nights they had singers on the rest of the time it was just a disco. There was a Scottish bar down at the actual train station and the atmosphere in there was fabby. Would I recommend the Planamar? No, not for food and entertainment the hotel needs to up the anti there. Best thing this hotel has going for it is the fact it has a fantastic location.

This hotel was rated 3* but it was more like 2* the breakfast was good but lunch and dinner left a lot to desire, pork and chicken and when I say chicken I mean wings, and if they did not make enough it was tough luck, and the salad bar consisted of lettuce and tomato very poor, and worsed of all was the time your card ran out was 12.00 and we did not leave hotel until 6:60 we have never experienced this before, every other all inclusive was exactly that until you left, would not recommend to anyone and we are experienced all inclusive 5 years and this is the worse one yet.

I’m just back from a 6 day break at this hotel. This is my fourth visit.
This hotel is situated on the main street, opposite the beach, with the railway line running between the road and the beach. It is in one of the best locations in Malgrat.
On arrival, at around 7pm the check-in was very smooth, and we were in our rooms within 5 minutes. We did have to return to get our A/I cards as there were other people queuing to check-in, but that was not a problem.
Our rooms were very clean. The TV (with BBC1), toilet and a/c all worked fine. There was a fridge in the room but I forgot to ask how much they charged for it. No hairdryer in the rooms.
The rooms and hotel in general were all kept very clean, with maids working all hours.
One of the best features of this hotel is the very green outdoor area at the front of the hotel. There are various plants and trees on the patio which provide very welcome shade. The pool is not huge, but was adequate for the hotel.
The food was the usual variety for an AI hotel, ie main meals had fish, pasta and a couple of meat dishes. The disappointing thing with this visit was that the quality of the food had gone down. The salad selection was blatantly leftovers mixed with pasta or rice and a tray of tomatoes and a tray of lettuce. The one thing I did notice was that there were more vegetables available than I’ve seen in other hotels and that you did get different types of potato –not just chips. Most of the meat and fish dishes were cooked with veg and used very cheap cuts of meat. You could not fault the actual cooking –the standard was very good, but the very bony/fatty meat was not really very good. The AI snacks were the same all the time –ham and cheese sandwiches, crisps and cake. Again, a downward trend from last year. The coffee is still lousy, but if you choose cortado that probably is the least offensive. It is also worth paying for a coffee at the bar as that is much better quality than the free stuff.
As I quite like this hotel, it may be that the fact we had a very high number of young foreign students staying affected the hotel’s budget and so what they offered in the way of food/snacks was reduced, but I would want to see some better reviews on the whole food aspect before I book my next trip here.
The bar was fine with the usual daily cocktail and varying measure sizes of the vodka depending on who served you and the staff were very friendly and treated us very well; so well in fact that we got proper glasses to drink from at night instead of the plastic ones.
The only problem is the size of the bar where they have the entertainment is very small, although you can see and hear from the patio. There was little in the way of entertainment this visit.
With regard to the noise nuisance etc that keeps being reported, beyond the normal “goodnight noise” after the bar shut I heard nothing at all on any night and saw nothing to cause me any anxiety throughout my stay.
I thought this was an excellent break in a clean hotel, and for the money paid it was good value, but the food does need improving.

Just returned from a week in the camp. I wouldnt go here again if it was a free holiday.
Staff have no time for you, the bar staff barring one girl are all moody, ignorant people.

Food is the same all week cold boring, unless you like chips chips chips.

Pool area very small and not enough sun loungers.

No entertainment whatsoever, apart from the cow hide outfit people which were CRAP!!

Ended up going out but couldnt afford to every night as the prices in the bars were more than over here!!!!

NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL IF YOU WANT A GOOD TIME!!!!!!!

Just got back from Planamar, as soon as me and my girlfriend turned up at 'the fritsl dungeon' she started crying because of the sheer state of the hotel and location.

Don't even get me started on the food, if watered down water soup is your favorite meal, then you may enjoy the soup, also having anus sausages in the morning is a great way to start of your day at the concentration camp. We paid for all inclusive and eaten out for every meal of the week, ending up spending a fortune

the room :

The view - construction site and back of the kitchens, constant noise coming from the huge boilers, good for a night in on the balcony!

The bath/shower - awful.

BAR STAFF - HORRIBLE SLEASY MEN no matter how much alcohol we drank at the bar, there was no way we could get pissed. Aparantly all inclusive means you can get all of your drinks free? In other words one kind of cocktail (which you had to pay for the rest) along with the average barly alcoholic drinks.

The pool was far too small which got far too packed, not enough sun loungers which came to idiots getting up really early to go and put their towels out before disapearing all day.

overall holiday - shite.

Hi just arrived back from planamar, after reading some reviews we were dreading it..i have to say we were pleasantly surprised. food wasnt as bad as we expected, it was much the same as the royal sun, but missing the little extras ie grated cheese crutonds. etc. rooms small but big enough for two people..the staff were great, always smiling. the one thing we didnt enjoy so much were the rolla cola they used to mix drinks,. would use this hotel again.preferred to the royal sun.which we have also stayed and htop santa sussanna.

Have just returned from a week's break at this hotel and will definitely not be returning. The hotel itself is extremely dated, especially the rooms, although it was clean and the maids cleaned our room every day. The food was ok but not a huge choice, nothing much at all for the kids so they ended up living on chips and plain pasta for the whole week. We never bothered with the snacks on the all inclusive as every day it was either burgers, salad or dried up cold chips. I found all the staff, especially the bar and restaurant staff, to be extremely rude and arrogant. Malgrat itself is very scruffy with most places either closed down or covered in graffiti. All in all I would say this hotel is more a 2 star than a 3 star.

We were booked in to this hotel but changed by the company to the Royal Sun a week before we flew out. A lot of people who booked for the Planamar were changed at the last minute. We can't comment on the rooms, although the balconies with the lovely blue shutters looked great. We spent several afternoons at the Planamar and had lunch there one day. The food was just as good as the Royal Sun which is supposed to be 4 Star, I personally think the Planamar has a much nicer atmosphere and loved sitting outside during the day, I never really felt that at the Royal Sun. The free bus just started the day we left, but the good thing about HTop hotels is that you can comfortably walk between the Royal Sun, Planamar and the Santa Susanna when you get bored. The Planamar in particular is ideally situated near the train station and the trip to Barcelona is only around six euro return. The beach is just across the street. Be aware if you are going before the begining of April that the free bus advertised is not on and many shops and cafes are closed. You can get two drinks per card all-inclusive at the 3* Planamar and only one at the 4* Royal Sun. The bar staff at the Planamar were pleasant and smiled if you were polite to them, the restaurant staff were not as pleasant and refused us snacks as we had not known we had to book them in advance. (Don't depend on a USB memory stick if you have work to do on any of the HTop Hotel internet points - for some reason they will not work - use a CD or even a floppy.)
For the money you can book this hotel all-inclusive I think it is a very good deal. I would certainly return to Santa Susana/Malgrat De Mar and would definitely stay at the Planamar.

We stayed in Planamar hotel for a week and was glad to get away, we went expecting nightly entertainment and there was none, the staff were moody and the only good thing is the free booze, on the web site, it stated nightly entertainment, there was also no holiday rep and was dissapointed as we still went on holiday looking for things to do and there was no one to help unless we asked the hotel staff which shouldnt happen on a holiday, there should be a rep no matter what time of the year it is, my partner is a vegetarian and was digusted at the food as all she eat for the whole week was bread rolls and past with sauce and maybe some salad which isnt fair and all i was eating was coldish chips bred rolls and pasta really, the aggs were not cooked properly and looked like see through snot, to be honest it was a nice break but it didnt feel like a holiday much which was a shame. You will like this hotel if you like sitting down staring at everything with a drink all the time, but if you like to do things then there is not much to choose from.

Hotel was right opposite the beach, so th location was good, but the hotel was not! the room was so small that th bed prevented us from opening th door properly. there was alot of elderly people and children, possibly the time we went. The food was pretty average, nothing special and the local drinks were far too sweet so we had to water it down so there wasnt much point drinking alcohol or just dont go all inclusive and buy food and drinks when you get there cos there were so many nice restaurants and bars.
th balcony's were so small you'd bump into eachother if there was anymore than one person out there, they say rooms are big enough for three ... that is a lie
some of the staff were friendly and others were not

overall i didnt like the hotel, ive only ever stayed in one other 3* hotel and the standard of the other 3* wasnt as poor as Planamar so i dont think that its rated correctly, there were many hotels in the area, most were 3* and they looked so much better! although i dont think il b staying anywhere less than 4* again!i do NOT recommend planamar hotel at all!

typical spanish all inclusive with some choice but never really nice food .Unusually for Spain very little fresh fruit ,coffee was foul unless you paid for it at the bar we never had that before .Staff ok but sometimes very pushy and impatient. What for me spoilt this hotel was the very noisy and unruly british families ,I am trying to be objective here but ive never stayed at such a noisy hotel ,though it is the first time ive stayed in a hotel that was almost 100 percent british .To be fair there was very little for the children to do and once the weather changed for the worst everybody seemed to stay in the hotel with the inevitable noisy cosequences We did travel around but when we came back into the hotel the noise was awful

I visited this hotel with my boyfriend my sister and her boyfriend.

Hotel itself was fine, i found that the food wasn't great but was ok sometimes but then i am quite a fussy eater. if u wanted to get a sun bed around the pool you needed to be up quite early around half 6 - 7 otherwise u would be shaded most of the day.

The bar staff were ok. the lady at reception was very nice and very helpfull although the man at reception wasn't very helpful at all!

Our room was always kept very clean and tidy by the maid we had clean towels every day - every other day, and our beds were made everyday.

The location is excellent so many pubs, resturants and clubs right on the doorstep, the beach is about a 5 minute walk away.

i would go back to this hotel again.

It is a 3* hotel, so we did not expect to be in the highest quality accomerdation or in total luxuary but was very good value. The room was a bit small, but managable. The bathroom was also small, and well used, but with no signs of mould. We had no problem with the cleanlyness. The fridge in our room did not work. This was reported, but never fixed. The airconditioning did not blow cold, and the lift broke down one day.
Being a small hotel, the buffet choice was a bit limited, but okay. There is a microwave should you wish your food a bit hotter.
The pool sound system needs a check, as it was hard to hear the questions on the afternoon quiz. The pool area is a bit small, but the beach is 2 minutes away.
It rained everyday, but what made the holiday, was the people we met, and the laughs we had.

Having stayed at this hotel last year we thought it had improved 100% this year. The rooms were very clean and we had more than enough space for 3 beds. The food was good and we could always make a meal, there was always a vegitarian dish. The staff were friendly and helpful. The entertainment was typical of a spanish holiday hotel but we had some good nights (of course the free drinks help). The hotel is in a good situation for both the beach and for transport links to other resorts. For what we paid we thought we had excellent value for money.

This was my first holiday away and although i did enjoy it i wouldnt come back here. It was too quiet in regards to night life. the entertainment wasnt up to much either.

The food wasnt too bad there is always salad, chips, ice cream so no one should starve. at breakfasts there is plenty to choose from, but towards the end you do get sick of seeing it as a lot of it is there at every meal.

The rooms on the other hand were absolutely tiny 3 of us sharing a room that could only fit a single and double bed in with no space and only 1 plug socket in the room.

The size of the pool was very small, and it is prob because the hotel is right across from beach but the beach was awful also, very windy and stoney went once and not again.

The location was good though right in the centre of all the shops and 5 mins from the train station,

The maids never emptied our bin for at least 3 days when it was overflowing in our room.

The barmen were great had a ball with them

The hotel was very clean . The room was small but we were only on a three day break and hardly in it. The food wasnt good at all. Never tasted such awfull corn flakes ever and the rolls were brick hard. The morning rolls were laid out at 8.30pm the night before! The choice of food was very limited, pigs trotters, chicken wings and some type of fish! There was a free shuttle to the other H Top Hotels, and i would recomend the Callella Palace for meals. Would not have wanted to have to eat there for a week. The hotel only had one lift, and it broke down no less than four times when we were there, luckily we were on the first floor and just walked to the room. An elderly couple had no luck however and had no choice but to wait for the lift to get fixed. The drink was good and the bar had a good choice of the local spirits etc. Bar staff were quite pleasant. Good enough for a three day break but not for longer one.

I’m just back from a 6 day break at this hotel.
I had read all the previous reviews, but having visited this hotel for drinks before, and having stayed in many of the other HTOP hotels over the years, I decided that it should serve all my needs.
I was not disappointed.
This hotel is situated on the main street, opposite the beach, with the railway line running between the road and the beach. It is in one of the best locations in Malgrat.
On arrival, at around 9pm the check-in was very smooth, and we were in our rooms within 5 minutes. We did have to return to get our A/I cards as there were other people queuing to check-in, but that was not a problem.
Our rooms were very clean, but while my friends got a side sea view, I got my usual view in whichever hotel I book –the building site out the back. The TV, toilet and a/c all worked fine.
The food was well cooked and there was the usual variety. The one thing I did notice was that there were more vegetables available than I’ve seen in other hotels and that you did get different types of potato –not just chips. The snacks were the same all the time, as far as I was told by my friends, but as they are snacks and not meals they were adequate. The coffee is still lousy, but if you choose cortado that probably is the least offensive. It is also worth paying for a coffee at the bar as that is much better quality than the free stuff.
The bar was fine with the usual daily cocktail and varying measure sizes of the vodka depending on who served you and the staff were friendly enough and treated us very well; so well in fact that we got proper glasses to drink from at night instead of the plastic ones.
The only problem is the size of the bar, where they have the entertainment, is very small, although you can see and hear from the patio. The entertainment itself was nothing special with the usual mix of karaoke, quiz, bingo and live music. They had someone there called the gaffer, who was advertised as winning Majorca’s entertainer of the year award in 2006, who sang a lot of C&W stuff. They must be easy pleased in Majorca!
With regard to the noise nuisance etc that keeps being reported, my friends had a crowd of lads in the room next to them who were very loud at around 5am on the first night, and who they subsequently discovered had trashed the room, but they were gone the next day. Beyond the normal “goodnight noise” after the bar shut they had no further problems during our stay. I heard nothing at all on any night and saw nothing to cause me any anxiety throughout my stay.
I thought this was an excellent break in a clean hotel, and for the money paid it was great value.

I stayed in this hotel the end of April with my husband and 2 small children, the hotel was basic very clean we had a poor view from th back a construction site.
Entertainment was quite poor but thee was a little something on.
Location was great just over road was beach 5 min walk to train station, we visited Barcelona (WAS FAB) bout hour away and only 6EURO 20, shops, supermarket, chemist near by, out of the hotel and right for about 20 mins is sata susanna which is lovely and also has another H.TOP hotel Royal Sun.
Food ok
Breakfast always same slimey egg, toast beans, fruit juice, sausage, streaky bacon,And a selection of cereals.
Dinner fish cakes, chicken nuggets, chips, gravy, salad, burgers.
Tea always some type of fish, another meat(PORK,LAMB,BEEF,CHICKEN), chips a type of pasta, salad, vegetables, soup, bread rolls, pasta sauce, gravy.
Snacks, burgers, chips ham cheese, buns, salad.
Drinks good a daily cocktail and wide selection of other drinks, just a shame the glasses are really small ad only allowed 2 drinks at a time.

lets just say we arrived on the monday and tried booking a flight home the following morning. we had planned on staying for a week at the hotel, however the staff, accomodation and location have to be the worst i have ever seen. my first impression when arriving was a young girl having a slanging match with the barman and lots of drunken little boys making lots of noise.
we couldn't sleep due to all the noise created by the people staying there. unfortunately as i am not a smoker, the inside of the hotel smelled like an ash tray.
on all accounts i would advise people with any self respect to stay away from this hotel.
the beds seem to be restored from an air raid shelter and anyone taller than 6ft would have difficulty even moving in the hostel style bedrooms.

be warned.

Me and my friend decided to book a short 3 day break to this hotel during February. We got a very good deal from the teletext website and no wonder why. On arrival, at about 11.30pm we were standing in reception for ages before we got to check in because they were having an arguement with some new holiday makers over room reservations. We hadnt had a drink since getting off the flight about 3hrs previously but were told that we couldnt get any drinks until we'd come back down and got our cards done complete with photo etc. By the time this was done the bar wouldnt serve us drinks as after midnight you have to pay regardless of whether you're all inclusive or not. For some reason we didnt have any euros on us, only sterling and both the bar and reception sent us back and forth saying the other one would change the money up. We eventually got given a bottle of water by the barman and told to pay the next day.

The food was horrible and usually the same as well. Id say breakfast was the best meal but that was only because you got to make yourself toast and they had little muffins out. Scrambled eggs are sloppy though and the bacon is streaky so i stayed away from this. Occasionally you'd get a couple of nice things at dinner but on the whole, it wasnt very nice. We would've gone out and eaten no problems but due to the time of year nearly everything was shut. The hotel is on a massive long road that runs parallel with the beach and is packed with shops and restaurants. I know resorts close down out of season but this is ridiculous. We found 1 pub open that was quite a walk away and we found 2 cafes and 1 shop. This was after walking up and down this road for about an hour. The hotel entertainment was awful as well so we were well and truly bored. Spent most of the time in our room either sleeping or watching the couple of English TV channels. We'd been to Turkey 2 months before over new year and even though this was out of season, everything was still open and we had a great time!

The hotel staff were not particularly friendly and didnt make any effort to stike up conversation with you. In the summer though, im sure the location of the hotel is pretty good. The beach is right across the road and there's also a main railway line which im sure is good for trips etc. All in all though, i wouldnt return to this resort and certainly not this hotel.

Can't complain about the hotel or its location. But could about many of the people staying there. All they did was moan about the food and hotel. What do people want for their money? It's 3 star at the end of the day, and most of them seemed to be enjoying the free flowing alcohol.

The food was fine during the first couple of days but after that I must admit we did choose to eat out. To be honest though I think the problem was that the kitchen isn't too well ventilated and all the food smells travel through the hotel and often don't smell too tempting, but what we did eat we did enjoy and food was available for most of the day.

I have just come back from and extremely chilling break.

The rooms were cleaned every day, all the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

My partner and myself feel cheated of our family break this year. We arrived to a smooth check-in only to find out that the H.Top Planamar website was false and there was no kids pool or play area, also no gym.

The room was simply awful, it felt like a prison cell, we had to lock ourselves in as the door kept opening.

I could hardly move in the so called bathroom and the balcony was a joke with a building site view, not good.

Now onto the food, if that's what they call it, I wouldn't serve this muck to a dog. We tried sausage one night only to find it was red in the middle, burgers where the same.

My son wouldn't go in the place and my partner & myself soon followed him. Hence we had to eat out each night so all our money soon went.

The H.Top bus service was the only thing that kept the nightmare together, booking free trips to other resorts with 4 star H.Top hotels which we could have lunch in.

That was until the bus never picked us up from Lloret which left us stranded other stranded H.Top guests were told to get a taxi and they would be refunded, but when we said we were staying an H.Top Planamar they told us to get a bus & train and they would refund us, but they never did.

We were fuming and just wanted to get home. This place needs to be knocked down as it is in such a great location.

If anyone has this hotel booked have trust in me and cancel, you will thank me in the end, it really is that bad.

we stayed in this hotel on an all inclusive basis on a 3 night break.
the location of the hotel is fine, within walking distance of most things. also, the train station is about 5-10 mins walk away.
the hotel staff were polite & helpful when asked for items or assistance.
the entertainment was typical spanish cabaret type of things but there did not appear to be any 'kids clubs'.
the food in this hotel was absolutely shocking - we chose to eat out at all times!
we would not visit this hotel again.

There is nothing wrong with Hotel Planmar Yes I've stayed in better but I've also stayed in far worse in Britain. The hotel's position is ideal near the shops and the beach, and even though our rooms weren't ready Linda who is Great did our all inclusive cards Straight away so we were able to get some refreshments.
The rooms are of average size but are kept clean, the cleaners came in everyday even changed the towels
The food wasn't that bad I'm up for trying anything once being a Chef and yes they did have different parts of the pig but they were lovely. There is always something to eat there, snacks on most of the day and a good time span for the rest of the meals.
The bar staff were very polite and looked after my children making sure they all got what they wanted.
The staff are not ignorant but then I try and answer in Spanish and are very Patient as they are very laid back in Spain.
The Entertainment could do with a tweek We had singers in,quizzes, bingo and all that but no real shows, Lacking in kids entertainment not that my kids seem to care they were too busy playing pool or in the pool. Because it is a small hotel the other guests there you get very friendly with so it's really what you make it. We made some good friends on this holiday And I definately would be going back again. Good value for money. Don't be put off by other reviews there's not much wrong with this hotel.

mixed feelings about this hotel to be honest.was my first time in spain and i went with 9 other people from my family.
when we got there,we checked in.whilst doin this within 5 minutes of being there, one of us had our checkbook stolen form his waist bag by a couple.there was no security at all.the storage for bags was left open with no one gaurding them.
they checked us in and gave us our all inc cards so we could have refreshments. when we finally got our rooms, we were pleased at how clean they where.
after 2 nights we had to complain about a group of german students who kept us up all hours. the staff were quick in changing our rooms...which had a frontal view of the sea.
the food was ok,not much wrong.could of had a little more variety, but im not choosy.
all staff wer polite and helpful. the kids went with the activities coordinator everyday.trips runnin from the hotel front gates.and when my sister became ill,the staff were so helpful in arranging for a taxi to take her to the hospital.
i did enjoy the holiday and am going back again this year on a suprise hotel package.so i wont be disapointed if we are in this one

I am not long off the plane and am still disgusted with this hotel.

My main gripe with this "hotel" is the food. People say you get what you pay for, but let's face it, it's just as easy to cook food well as to cook food badly with the same ingredients.

Picture the scene. You've had a nice day by the beach (which is nice) and you are looking forward to an appetising meal in the evening. You get changed and are offered "Pigs Elbow" as a main course offering. Hmm, yummy. (The following day we'd gone from elbow to trotter which was even less appetising. After that they must have run out of pig as we'd had a shepherd's pie made out of pigs kidneys two days earlier).

They destroy vegetables. On the second to last day they had broccoli, well, it was green and fluffy and had stalks, but that was the closest you could generously get to describing it as such. It tasted like an alien being had guessed at giving it a flavour and guessed wrong.

My daughter gagged on biting into some "cauliflower" and it spurted water in her mouth. If over-cooked bland veggies are your thing, then boy is the Planamar the hotel for you. They can't even do boiled potatoes!!!

Everywhere you would see residents shaking the salt pots over their food, desperately trying to imbue some semblance of taste.

Everything the catering staff touched (apart from chips, which they know how to cook - goodness knows they cook enough of them) turned to a tasteless mush. Even the pasta they put out was bland - hey guys ever heard of herbs?

Oh and it was nice how I noticed them putting breakfast food out for the following morning. Yeah, you'd really get away with that in the UK.

Fish lovers? You will simply LOVE the Planamar. If you like Hake that is. We had grilled hake, fried hake, battered hake, hake in sauce, hake in breadcrumbs, for heaven's hake and for pity's hake!!! All served on consecutive days. Nothing like re-serving left overs in a in a different guise eh?

And that's without mentioning the breakfasts. Thank good for sugar puffs, toast and corn flakes, that's all I can say...

I would LOVE Gordon Ramsey to visit this place he would have a field day.

If you stay at the Planamar, budget to eat out. You will be doing yourself a great favour.

As to the rest of the hotel, they have any number of ridiculous rules which they choose to enforce on a purely arbitrary basis. With your All Inclusive card, they want you to only have two drinks. Okay, so what if you are getting a juice for your child at the same time? Well, even if there is nobody else at the bar, some of the jobsworths will want you to walk away from the bar, go and put your drinks down and come back to the bar.

But that wasn't all the time, sometimes they'd serve you sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes you can take a drink to your room, sometimes you can't.

The bar staff, yes they work hard, but guys, if you don't want to work in a business serving the public, get out, do something else. Quite often they were surly, uncooperative and miserable - other times they could be really nice. But as a client I don't want to have to be tippy-toeing around the staff hoping they're nice to me!

The rooms are very small, and it can be quite a lesson in logistics moving a family of four around the room. The towels are indeed changed often, but the maids could do with a bit more effort on the floors. The maids are very sweet though and hard working so I don't want to give them too much stick.

The pool area is very small and you have to get in there early to get a sun lounger. Oh and there are never enough chairs in the evenings, they have another jobsworth rule where you can't take the white plastic chairs from the smoking room to the terrace (with the other white plastic chairs). This came about on an evening where there was nobody in the smoking room and everybody on the terrace stuck for someone to sit.

I could go on.

As it stands, what would enhance the hotel would be to replace the catering team for people who can cook; who understand that cooking is not a matter of bludgeoning a foodstuff into submission by overcooking it.

I would work on everyone (not just a few) trying to put the guests first (the female receptionists are very good) and remembering that you have to do that because it's your job.

This is a three star hotel? No it isn't.

I had a nice holiday because I met some really nice people.

The hotel had little to do with enhancing my stay.

We stayed at the Planamar hotel for 2 weeks at the begining of august as all inclusive guests.
We have stayed in nearby resorts before and you really do get what your payed for, not meant in a negative way, but we went on a budget holiday.
It is a small, very friendly hotel and its location is faultless.
When we arrived, the reception was very welcoming and helpful.
Our rooms rooms varied in size depending on how many people there were staying in them, they were basic but nice the only quarm I would have is that floors were not always completely swept under the beds etc. However with the glorious weather you really dont want to spend all your time in the rooms!
The food was satisfactory although as a vegetarian there was not much choice for me, but the same can be said about other hotels in spain, and the British always want British food as soon as they leave the country! One excellent factor was that there was food at any time of day........ breakfast, snacks, lunch, snacks, dinner, snacks.
The bar had a great choice of drinks and the spanish portion of alcohol per drink is great! The bar staff were friendly and very hardworking. Slight confusion over the rules- sometimes you were allowed to order more than 2 drinks at a time sometimes you were not, sometimes you were given glasses other times you were not allowed them.
The pool was fine in relation to the size of the hotel and considering the beach is on your doorstep you cant really complain, if you couldnt get a sunbed then just take a few extra steps to the beach.
The entertainment was cheesy but hilarious none the less, the entertainment staff were brilliant linguists and were running around with the kids all day!
Something we havent seen at a hotel before is the fact that you can hire bikes etc for free with a simple deposit.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday, met some brilliant people and genuinly enjoyed ourselves, you can't beat a budget holiday in sunny spain!!!!!

We arrived at the hotel early so our room was not ready but they gave us our all inclusive cards straight away so we didn't mind waiting. The room we had was ok size with two balconies one over looking the pool and one over looking the conservatory which was nice. We love our food and i did enjoy the selection only because i like to try new things, my wife mostly ate chips and there was no kids meals so they mostly ate chips. The staff were ok but as some one has already mentioned the bar staff will sometimes serve you 4 drinks being a family of 4 then other times will not so. The free bikes was a good idea not that we used it because there are no kids bikes. The only real problem we had was the noise through the night, there is obviously no staff about as we had people coming into the grounds after a night out shouting, jumping in the pool the taking people's towels to dry themselves then left with the towels. We as a family will not be going back to the planamar.

This was one of the best holidays we have had, the food is ok, staff are pleasant and the kids had a fabulous time!! they could go and get food/drink as they pleased and the staff were always happy to help, other times they were .just happy to be in pool or in games room.

Evening entertainment was a bit cheesy, but it was mostly centered around the kids, and as we were on a family holiday, that suited us just fine.

The rooms were a bit on the small side, but you dont go away to sit in the room!!i am a very fussy eater, but I always found something to eat that I enjoyed every day.

We constantly heard negative comments from people when we were there, but honestly, what do you expect? your not paying to stay at the Hilton!!

Also I would like to say, that this is not a rowdy hotel, everything was closed up and quiet by midnight, which is perfect for families.

We enjoyed this holiday so much that we are going back this year

Well we just got back home yesterday from staying at the Planamar and im going to be as honest as i can. When we arrived we were given our photo id cards which enabled us to use the bar for drinks and as we arrived at 10am and our room was not ready untill 1pm it was really helpful to get refreshments. When we went to our room at 1pm we were a little surprised at how small the room was as we had four beds in it as we have 2 children aged 10 and 7.
Linda at reception was really nice and helpful and English which was a great help. The maid service was good and they were friendly and always willing to help. The food was good, neither of us went hungry and you can make a meal up with most of what is served, the one gripe i have is that when the kids wanted icecream that they had to eat it in the dining area as that was the only place they could get it. The pool was a tad small but nice and a bit annoyed at how many people left towels on sunbeds and they buggered off somewhere else leaving the people that wanted to use them nowhere to sunbath. The bar staff were great and friendly and if you have kids then the annimation team of Britt and Ilonka were great with the kids and when they win drawing/colouring competitions ect the kids are awarded a medal and diploma. Whilst we were there there happened to be youth football teams from different countries staying there, gladly it was for onlyu the first week we were there because they were very noisy and on our first night there at 01.00 i heared loud noises from outside near our balcony area and when i went to investigate i came face to face with some American kid standing on our balcony as we were between
them they were balcony hopping and as we were on the third floor and woken up i wasn't too happy and told them to in no uncertain terms to bugger off and stay quiet or id be throwing them over the bugger. The next morning i told reception about it and was told that they had actually made a complaint about me jumping over their balcony the cheeky gits. Anyway I heared a lot of moaning about the food and how much better it was at the other H Top hotels but you get what you pay for and i have no regrets about going there and would definately go there again.

First I should say that we paid only £229.00 for a week all inclusive at this hotel, so we did not expect four star service.

The rooms were basic but very clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the all inclusive drinks carried a wide variety, I have stayed in four star and not had such a wide choice of drinks! There was whisky, vodka, bacardi, gin, cinzano, baileys and tia maria as well as beer and wine. Yes the drinks are served in plastic glasses but most people drink outside at the pool area, no one wants to see children cutting their feet on broken glass do they?

Now the food - which seems to be everyones complaint! It is a 3 star hotel serving 3 star food, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the food, it is just basic food but there are always salads and chips, I was never hungry!

Just don't go expecting too much or you will be disappointed, we expected basic for what we paid and thats what we got but it wasn't horrible nor did any of us have any stomach problems.

As this is part of a big hotel group, you can use any of the four star hotels should you wish, you just book at reception the day before and the free bus takes you there and picks you up.

We went to the Calella palace for the day had lunch and snacks and drinks, it was lovely. Also we used to royal sun through the day, just booked drinks and snacks, this hotel is right on the beach, so we used the beach and popped in for drinks when we wanted.

All in all we had a fantastic week - dont expect to pay 3 star prices and get 4 star service, but for a cheap holiday this hotel is great.

The stay at the planamar was excellent I enjoyed my self to the max, the staff including Pacco, Amed, Linda made our stay fantastic.

The hotel is very clean in every way, the food was excellent, the service was 1st class. The bar staff 1st class.

The pool was cleaned every day and the pool surrounds, what more can I say, it speaks for itself.

There was one or two complaints but I don't think people understand you get what you pay for and that is three star not 4 and 5 star and people have a different way of cooking and we were in Spain so come on guys give them a break its not all the hotels fault if you did not like just asked for a change and see what you get.

There are two things I would like to say is if my TF.Gear baseball cap was handed in please forwards on to me please and yes I am coming back very soon and thank you very much for a fantastic 8 days regards from BOB HICKINBOTTOM.

p.s. Just one thing planamar sack the D.J. as he only played music he wanted to hear after all we are all English not Spanish sorry for this but we don't speak Spanish and most of the records played in Spanish so hey MR D.J. turn up the base and play English sounds please.

As for the kids entertainment they gave everything well done...

Ok you want the truth. The hotel and staff were great, the food, well I am a fussy eater but I had food on my plate every 24/7.

Our room was very clean, we were in room 316 and being disabled not much room to put my chair, so I left it downstairs and used my crutches to get to the restaurant. Mice were the hell wear the mice ,I think the person who said there were mice running by the pool and around the hotel, the only thing I saw were lizards so I think the person may needs glasses, and that is were they live I am no David Bellamy but I know the difference,

Access for the disabled needs a little adjustment to the ramps but no cockroaches like Malta, and as for the people who were there they were enjoying themselves and having a good time. Of course there had to be some moaners that’s the British way good god we are in Spain and when in Spain do as the Spaniards do and have a good time.

The swimming pool was cleaned every day, my room was cleaned every day and the towels were clean every day. The staff were fantastic friendly and if you said ola they would return the compliment,

Linda is a wonderful lady, Paco the restaurant manager was very funny and always made you welcome in the restaurant, and if you need some thing from the restaurant all you do is ask and they don’t mind if you explain what its for. I had no problems when I wanted a bowl for my rice krispies as I have them for super 365 days a year

I am going back there in July and then in October so I like it there. You get what you pay for ,so if you want four five star try another hotel and don’t forget the hotel is 40 years old so its doing a good job for my liking every credit to the hotel and staff who made my stay very enjoyable asta la vista baby - I will be back THANKYOU THE PLANAMAR

As we got a really good deal on this holiday we weren't expecting anything too luxurious, and we were only going for the weekend.

The hotel room was clean although really small. There were alot of people who took full advantage of the all inclusive drinks and alot of them were drunk from early until late. The food in the restaurant was awful.

The reception staff were not very helpful at all.We found this out when we asked to book dinner at one of the other hotels in the group, don't think they were very happy we were escaping the hotel and they couldn't!!!you are supposed to book to eat in the other hotels but we didn't we tried out a couple over the weekend and found them to be spot on.

The location was ideal, right in the centre ,not far from the lovely beach. We had a really good time and made the most of it but would avoid going back to this hotel , it really lets the group down.

All i can really say about this hotel is if you have booked........god help you.

Towels and bedding were changed every 2 days

Food is MUCK, no need to explain more

Location is quite good as it is next to the train station and you can travel along the coast to other HTOP hotels(4 star only) the food is excellent in the AMIKA in Callella.

Bar staff are diabolical and are never polite or curteous.

Entertainment was a singer! on every night.

There were fighting, singing at all hours....day and night, drunks dropping their trousers and showing all.

Whilst we were there a holiday maker(male 6 footish) was scalded with the shower, he ended up with second degree burns to his back, arm and to the top of his leg. He was that serious they would not let him travel home, I believe he had to stay there another week, and would require skin grafts to the affected areas. I dread to think what would have happened had one of his children been in the shower at the time.

I would go back to the Costa Brava but never this hotel.

We checked in and the male receptionist was helpful and polite .We were given our all inclusive ID cards and were directed to the bar while we waited for our room .We thought it looked nice enough after all we hadn’t paid that much to get there.

The bar staff were friendly there were 3 bar staff on the bar but it seemed only one was serving the other two were doing what I don’t know. As we had had an early start and had missed breakfast and it was lunch time we decided to go and have something to eat in the restaurant it was more like a staff canteen the food was plain and tasteless and as the week went by it was nearly all the same food everyday which consisted of cold burgers that weren’t cooked. Cheap plastic cheese and ham. The salad was ok but was only lettuce onions tomato and radish.

The atmosphere in there was very sombre and we thought it funny that everyone looked so sad.....we went to pick up a couple of plates and one of the restaurant staff demanded our passes. He then told us to leave as we couldn’t eat till after 3pm and that would only be a snack he was rude and embarrassed us.

Our room was ready and it was on the 2nd floor with a sea view the room was very basic and not very clean at all. From the moment I stepped in there I started sneezing and my nose was blocked as time went by my partner was the same. Still we thought well we hadn’t paid much for this break so we unpacked and went back downstairs for our so called snack which was much the same as the lunch time dull and tasteless.

We got ourselves a couple of drinks and went to sit in the sun. By this time the bar had been open a few hours and a lot of the guests were obviously making the most of their all inclusive drinks there were drunks round the pool there was no where that you could get away from these guests, they were everywhere loud and rude. I like a drink myself but these people were going to extremes. As the evening began there was no entertainment oooops yes there was it was a black box that played music it is early in the season so we didn’t expect much there.

We sat chatting to some other guest some were going the following day and gave us some tips that we could actually book and go to their other hotels and use our all inclusive cards which we thought very good and they told us which ones were the better ones. They were very happy to be leaving and said they couldn’t wait to go, as the week went by we didn’t meet anyone that wasn’t happy to be leaving. Around 10pm I decided I had had enough of watching drunks and I was embarrassed to call myself British this was no where that I would bring my family. I went up to our room and as usual there was the odd drunk flat out at top of the stairs and corridors we had our very own crèche outside our door that ran till gone midnight. The noise coming from downstairs was just about bearable till some drunk started screaming or shouting .We even had our own Olympics one evening people running across all the balconies. We found ourselves eating out rather than eating the food and being in the company of such people.

The water machine broke, the telephones were not working, the pc for internet access wasn’t working but there was no sign saying so. My Partner wasn’t feeling too good one morning so I went to fetch him a cup of tea and I was shouted at and demanded to bring it back as it couldn’t leave the canteen. On all floors there are tables with food and drink on left for hours and hours I cant see how one cup and saucer would have made that much difference in our room.

We had clean towels everyday but the bedding wasn’t changed and the blankets used were not clean and fresh. The room wasn’t swept every day so sand was a bit of a problem.

I hope I haven’t missed anything off and I wouldn’t ever recommend this hotel to anyone at any age. It has 3 stars it should have 2 taken away. I didnt include the assault and the drunk being rushed to hospital and the big puddle of blood outside the entrance which was left there for hours.

As I sat in the restaurant on our last day I looked at all the newcomers they looked so happy and they were making comments about how sad everyone looked which took me back to the day we arrived. I wonder how long it would take there faces to become like mine.

I know that the holiday was cheap and it was only 3 star but surely you should expect some standards of cleanliness and politeness.

We have just got back from Planamar hotel today (1/11/06)

Cleanliness - we found this hotel, pleasent and clean we enjoyed our stay here.

Food - the food was basic but typically Spanish.

There was a different variety of foods on every night such as meats, pastas, fish, salad and extras(chips, veg')

Location - the location for this hotel was great within easy walking distances to shops , beach and station.

Hotel Staff - we found the hotel staff very nice . bar staff and maids were very polite.

Entertainment - this was basic but it was end of season!

Yes! we would visit again it was good value for the price
if you pay for 3* you get 3* dont expect it to be 5*

Food leaves a lot to be desired. Salads are always fresh and crispy, but even the dullest person couldn't mess one of these up, snacks were always the same, chips, (freezing cold), burgers, (cold & raw), and bacon (uncooked) and fruit, (always ripe and plentiful ) do not cater for children, unless you want to give your children ice cream for every meal.

Hotel rooms are cleaned every day, but the someone does like to take your belongs, we had 360 euros taken from out off a locked safe in a locked room. Other guests had perfume, money and make-up stolen while we were there as well, they even go through your things so cleaning staff are not to be trusted.

Great location overlooking the beach and sea,

Desk staff are not very friendly or helpful, only polite when your making an enquire or want to book a trip, if you have a complaint they say the do not speak English, and ignore you.

Entertainment was 2 games of bingo a day, and hi-fi playing the same records all day and night. Nothing for children only a pool that is used by adults and children.

Would never visit this hotel again, would advise my worse enemy to go here, it truly is a HELL HOLE.

We stayed all inclusive at this hotel, the rooms were clean but small, the towels were changed daily but the rooms were not swept or mopped. We found the food to be pretty good in that there was plenty to eat and a good variety, if there was something you didn't like there was always something that you did.

The hotel was situated close to beach but beware of the railway lines, they were between the hotel and the beach. The beach wasnt sandy as such, it was more a grit because I think it was man-made. There are quite a few shops but all a bit repetitive. Also a number of bars and clubs are close by.

We found the staff,on the whole, to be quite unfriendly and unhelpful. During our stay, 1 week, there were several instances of theft from rooms, which included 360 euros from a locked room, perfume, make up, cigarettes and tobacco, a wallet and several other items. It was believed that cleaning staff were taking these items. When these incidents were reported to reception they were not interested and refused to contact the police.

There was very little entertainment, apart from bingo twice a day and some Spanish and English pop songs played throughout the day and the odd live act. There was nothing for kids apart from the pool and an hour with a kids club.
We would definitely not visit this hotel again.
The hotel planamar should have "welcome to hell" above its gates.

Well well well firstly we got there and the receptionist did'nt even put our right name on my card! Then we go into dinner find that half of the the kitchen staff are so ignorant, its unbelivable then you go to get a drink the queue is about a mile long going out the door due to only one bar staff being on when there's about 3 other bar staff on duty not doing nothing.

The entertainment is like watching paint dry WHEN there was any on!

Although the rooms are OK they are basic but clean. The floor tiles are a bit lose but apart from that OK but some of the bathrooms are like dolls houses they that small and compact!

Over all the hotel is not the best !

We arrived just after midnight, and the bar had already closed, (not a good start). Check in went without a hitch, and we were given 4 rooms all on the top floor (3rd). It's a good job there's only 3 floors coz theres only 1 lift that holds 4, and it takes ages.

Breakfast was ok, the usual bacon, egg, sausage, beans, etc, along with all the usual side dishes. Lunch and dinner wern't brilliant, but acceptable, we always had a fair choice, and unlike a lot of hotels the food was always hot.

There was only one bar that opened at 10am and closed on the stroke of midnight. You could get 2 drinks per person with your all inc card.

It was easy to get served until about 8-8:30pm, and then you had to wait a while, (10 mins) as there was only one serving usually. The staff on the whole were quite friendly, and on Halloween the bar staff dressed up for the occasion.

The pool wasn't that big, but there was plenty of room, and more than enough sunbeds to go round, although, that probably wouldn't be the case at the height of the season.
The hotel is nicely positioned just 2 mins from the beach via an underpass. and convenient for all the shops.
The entertainment wasn't up to much, the occasional quiz, bingo etc, and during the day they play loud music from the lounge onto the poolside.
The rooms were fairly small. and could do with refurbishing, but they were very clean. The maids came in and changed the towels daily, so can have no complaints.
You can eat and drink in any of the hotels in the H TOP group, but you must book at reception before 7pm the previous evening to do so. There is a free bus connecting all hotels, but like before, you must book it the night before. The free bus actually stopped for the winter just before we came home which was a bit naughty, as the hotel wasn't due to close until 13th Nov.
All in all we couldn't have any real complaints for the price we paid, but would stop at the Royal Casino in Lloretnext time, which like the Planamar ia a 3*, but could easily pass for a 4*.

Arrived after midnight to find lift not working!! Lucky for us we were on 1st floor unlike some who were on 3rd and had to carry luggage themselves.

3 ladies were nearly robbed taking luggage to room by local hoods who knew lifts were not working and offered to carry cases for them!

Food was terrible no kids servery my son lived on beans for a week and they were only at breakfast!!

Pool was small and sunbeds too close together. Not suitable for disabled people.

Had to pay 2 euro for cocktails and drink served in plastic glasses which were'nt very clean! On the 3rd & 5th day Mice were seen in the terrace area we did'nt eat in Hotel from then!

Rooms very small but fresh towels provided daily and beds were made but rooms were not cleaned!!! Fridge in room didnt keep things cold when I complained they just shrugged their shoulders.

Will never return to this hellhole of a hotel my advice is use other 4* hotels booked a day in advance.

DONT GO TO PLANAMAR!

The hotel had mice running around the pool and terrace area!

The food was not good chicken was pink and burgers were cold in the middle, nothing for children to eat, my daughter ate a bit of fruit. Spent all our time eating out in other bars as food was so bad!

Staff are very rude, no manners at all, don't care about problems you have.

Broken tiles around swiming pool and sunbeds crammed in like sardines.

Long queues at the bar for a drink and you had a plastic beaker to drink from not good at all.

Entertainment was rubbish nothing much fun for kids unless they will sit down and draw pictures which a 3 year old wouldn't.

DO NOT GO THERE ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN, IT NEEDS KNOCKING DOWN. IT'S A HELL HOLE, STAY AWAY. IT SHOULD BE A 1 STAR NOT 3 STAR.

We travelled to Malgrat de mar with sunways holidays to the hotel planamar. When we arrived we were shocked to find it on the main road and the gates open all day so anyone could walk in.

The rooms were clean and the maids did come in every day to change towels and make beds but the sheets weren't changed all week.

The food was OK but nothing matched, my son just ate pasta and ice cream all week except when he got slightly hungry in the afternoon and had to eat the cold burgers and chips which were classed as snacks and were the same every day along with half cooked bacon and whatever was left over from lunch.

The staff on the bar were rude and mardy and didn't know hardley any English or how to talk to children. the childrens entertainers did try their best but the kids club was just a table in the bar where the kids could colour or play playdough, and when it rained their idea of entertainment was bingo or a quiz which didnt excite the kids one bit.

The kids disco was the same every night although they didnt complain.

The main pool was good and clean but the second pool or the baby pool, as we were told this was, was just a paddling pool stuck in the middle of all the plastic garden furniture and I didn't see one person or baby use this. Also the kids play area was non existent except for having 3 games machines and 2 pool tablews in a room where only the pool tables worked.

I would never visit this hotel again or Malgrat. We thought we had a bargain with this holiday but it just showed that you do get exactly what you pay for, and in this case we didn't pay much and we definately didn't get much.

For a start I'd just like to say that the other reviews I have just seen around the same time period that I and my family went to the planamar are very, let’s say interesting to read.

When we arrived at the Planamar it was very early in the morning about 6 after a long night of flying and coach travel. The gentleman at the reception did his best to get us all checked in as quickly as he possibly could and did it with a smile on his face after what I'm sure is a very boring shift through the night. I personally found the hotel to be well kept the cleaners came round every day. I did hear slight comments from guests that they had not had their rooms cleaned properly or that something wasn’t right but I think it was simply doing what we Brits seem to do best moan and grumble at every thing not matter how hard someone is trying to please you. I found the cleaners to be a very good laugh always with a smile and if you said 'ola' or 'Buenos Dias' (I can’t write Spanish) to them they would return the courtesy.

I myself was unfortunately ill for the first few days of the holiday due to catching a cold before I came out however that did not stop me venturing out and the food although not appealing to me at that time due to me feeling poorly was edible and well presented with a varied assortment. You had a big selection of vegetarian dishes which was good for us as my girlfriend is vegetarian and there was plenty of different fish, chicken, pork, pasta and other dishes served up.

If you pay 2 star prices don’t expect 5 star treatment. I know a lot of people had paid a lot of money to go there and im sure that if I had I would have felt a little bit disappointed but if you've got it on the cheap like we did then you have nothing to grumble about. We did not eat all the time in the restaurant sometimes we went out if we fancied a change.

There is a lovely bar down in the old town by the train stop called bar Joan which is nice for a drink and a snack and from what we saw all the local police go in there so you’re safe if anything. If your young and you like rock music there’s a great bar called Zeppelin rock cafe which is an awesome little place. Plus there are two restaurants which are lovely the first is a little tapas bar down the front simply called tapas and the other is a fish restaurant called Celamar (I might have the spelling wrong but ask for it).

The location of the hotel I could not fault you are right on top of the beach, yes there is a railway between you but there are underpasses which are safe enough and you are on the main strip with lots of shops and bars. When we returned from our holiday everyone we picked up from loret or Santa Susanna said they had not enjoyed themselves and that there was nothing to do. I think we had been lucky with the Planamar.

The staff were not rude or unpleasant they were simply Spanish or from another country. One lad at the bar I had tried speaking a little Spanish with and I found out he was from Bulgaria so I learned to say please and thank you in Bulgarian. The girls were always pleasant and enjoyed a laugh along with the bar manager. They seemed at first to be quite abrupt with the children but that was due to them not being able to grasp the right pitch and tone of our words that was simply it they all had a great rapport with the kids playing and joking around. I never saw one unhappy child the whole time I was there. I must give a big praise to the children’s entertainers especially musta who is brilliant always smiling and very patient. He even got the adults involved in things and was a complete joy.

The entertainment was simply, if that was your thing great, if not go out for the night. They had different things on every night. Yes the kids disco was the same music and setup but the kids seemed to enjoy themselves. They had a wonderful singer there who had a good voice and they put on a variety show with the entertainers. They had a karaoke night. The highlight for me was on the Thursday when they had these two guys with their guitars playing really good songs and these two guys could really play they were excellent! but again there were bars and restaurants you could go to outside the hotel there was a club just 700 yards down the stretch you weren’t confined to the hotel it wasn’t like you had to stay there and you had to watch what they were putting on for you if you didn’t like it go out for the evening. And I’ll add that seeing some of the other hotels close by with what they had for entertainment the planamar was quite good very family orientated.

I saw no mice the whole time I was staying at the Planamar. I would return to the Planamar but for one reason and that is simply the other guests who were there. I felt ashamed to call myself British with the ignorance and vulgarity that some of the other guests portrayed not just in their attitude but the way they treated the staff and disrespected the other guests from other nations staying there.

I must give you a tale of something that happened that will put the whole story in perspective. When I went up to the bar one day to get a drink there was a guest in front of me. The girl serving we did not no her name and her English was not very good but she tried and was always happy and smiling and worked her socks off so we named her rappido (also because she spoke very fast). Rappido served the gentleman with her normal smile and pleasant nature and when she handed him his card she said 'grasis'. to which the guest replied 'speak English!' while this guest was dithering putting his card back in his pocket I approached and saw that rappido was obviously quite offended by this remark and so I proceeded with what little Spanish I know to order my drinks all in Spanish. The guest looked at me with fright possibly thinking that I may have been Spanish I don’t know. I looked at him and said 'I can speak English but I respect peoples countries I visit'.

And by the way you have plastic beakers because glass is dangerous around pools where you have little children and adults walking around with nothing on their feet its common sense!

Hotel cleanliness could not be faulted, the cleaning staff came everyday (about 10-12 in the mornings) the beds were always made, the towels were changed and the floors were swept.

The catering and bar staff were very friendly, you must remember when you go abroad on holiday there is more often than not a language and cultural barrier and both parties should make an effort to communicate. The entertainment was a little dull some evenings but you are not chained to the hotel and local bars are reasonable and are close to the hotel, also Top H hotels provide a courtesy coach that travels to the other Top H hotels in the area so you can always try a different hotel for the day if you wish. However there were some great acts on in the hotel the Brazilian dancers were amazing, so were the two piece guitar group that put on an excellent show and there was a kids party everynight which the children always seemed to enjoy.

The food was reasonable, being a vegetarian i was a little apprehensive about going to an all inclusive but there was always a good selection of food for everyone. You could have a three course meal three times a day if you wished and the food was always warm and replenished regularly. I didn't actually indulge in having snacks so i cannot make a fair comment on it. The drinks were excellent you could have two drinks per card which i thought was brilliant the measures of the local spirits were generous to say the least and the beer was very nice, a little too nice one day. And it makes sense that the glasses are plastic, you can take your drinks anywhere in the hotel including by the pool. And whats worse having broken glass stuck in your foot or drinking out of a plastic glass? its called health and safety people.

At the end of the day you are paying for 2 star accommodation some people make the mistake of expecting 5 star services. The only reason that i would be reluctant to return to the hotel would be some of the other BRITISH guests that were incredibly rude and disrespectful not only to other guests but to the staff who were only doing their job!!

We arrived at the hotel and had to spend the night in the lobby as we were told they had no rooms for the 3 families who arrived together. The room when we finally were allocated one was relatively clean until ants appeared on the last couple of days.

The food was repetitive and I found a hair in my food near the end of the holiday which did put me off as the standard had not been bad until then.

Not a bad location and a good beach nearby but you do have to gain access through a subway under a railway line. Most of the staff were great and Linda is very helpful but watch out for the night porter who is quite rude.

We stayed on an all inclusive basis. Reception was very helpful at all times
food was brilliant, always something to eat at all times.

Location of hotel was ideal for walking anywhere in Malgrat, main train station 5 minutes away, play train stopped outside hotel every 10 minutes.

Hotel staff were always very friendly, maids cleaned room everyday, towels changed daily but maids did not always made the bunk beds.

Everyday there was entertainment for the kids and always in the night for adults, but bingo always took too long to play as they announced every number in English; French, Spanish, German and Italian (caters for all nationalities I suppose!)

Yes we would visit this hotel again, next year we hope to take a party of 30 adults and children as we enjoyed it so much!

The only downside was a bag snatcher entering the hotel grounds, and stealing a bag but a gang of brave young boys chased him where he ran onto the beach straight into the arms of the police! The bag was returned straight away, it is unknown what happened to the thief!

Paid an average price per person travelling for all inclusive to have no choice but to recieve self catering as the food was not edible ! Snack times were the same everyday chips, burgers (half cooked), bacon, fruit.Meals were left over dinner dished up as something else at tea !!

The cleaniness of the hotel inside was great and you couldnt fault the cleaners for there hard work, couldnt say the same about outdoors though.

Entertainment for kids was availible throught the day even tho the entertainer was pathetic, worth a laugh tho to watch.

Would visit the resort again but not this paticular hotel unless the management was to change as the hotel staff were very rude and ignorant almost made you feel unwelcome, but then again so did the holiday rep !!

We went to this hotel on an AI basis.

The rooms were very clean, cleaned every day by maids however the maids came at around 8am every morning which is a bit early I think - however there was a Do Not Disturb notice you could hang on your door handle. If you did this the maids came back later (around 10am).

The hotel food - breakfast there was sausage, bacon, hash browns, beans, toast, cereal, yoghurt, biscuits, croissants etc and mealtimes were things like soup, pasta, chips/potatoes, chicken, pork, sausage, paella, salad, fish and veg. Deserts were yoghurt, cakes, lots and lots of fruit like melon, pineapple, cherries, and the normal stuff like apples, pears, kiwi etc.

Snacks consisted of ham, cheese, bread, chips, sausage, burgers, salad, pasta and fruit. Ice cream and ice pops were also available all day/night.

There was a large variety of food throughout our stay however I was ill on the first night - I had chicken and I was sick all night. My husband wasnt very well on the 3rd night either. So we stayed away from meat and fish and only ate bread, pasta, cheese, potatoes and salad. For the younger ones there were things like fish fingers, potato fritters etc. All in all it was ok!

You are provided with a card as ID for the bar - you were allowed 2 drinks at a time in plastic glasses which you could take anywhere within the hotel including outside and in your room.

The drinks were nice, lager is typical spanish lager and you can get wine, vodka, rum, gin, whisky etc (all local brands) and kiddies cocktails (alcohol free obviously) which were great for our 2 year old. The location was brilliant, right over the road to the beach and there were shops right outside the hotel.

We went to Marineland and the bus stopped 2 mins from the hotel right there and back. Hotel staff were fine, some spoke better english than others but no problems at all with them.

The pool was quite small but was fine - it wasnt packed throughout the full week. The sunbeds did get busy but we always managed to get one.

The entertainment was great, our 2 year old really enjoyed most of it - they tried to cater for children and adults and we generally had a good laugh. Bit social club like but we found it fun.

They had a 'show night' where entertainers came in and another night they did a brazil show with lots of good dancers. They had the usual like bingo and karaoke etc.

All entertainment finished at midnight which was just right in my opinion and there was no loud noise once everyone had settled in their rooms! I wouldnt visit this particular hotel again - not for any major reason but just like to try different hotels.

All in all we had a good holiday and would recommend it if you are a couple without children or have children over the age of 6 years old.

As far as we were concerned everthhing was okay and no we are not easly pleased you get what you pay for. To be able to go from one resort to another for free and eat and drink in all the other hotels was a bonus as my husband is disabled. We really enjoyed this and I would like to make a special mention about the driver of the free H top bus, who was very considerate and kind, he helped me all the time with the transfer of my husband will be going back.

The food at this hotel is for people who do not go away to try the areas delights. if you like chips, pasta, burgers, sausages and any other rubbish then this is the place for you!

Most areas were pretty clean but the sunbeds around the pool, which was too rowdy to sit at anyway, were absolutely filthy!

It is right on the street and really noisy as its balcony doors dont shut properly so you can hear everthing.
The hotel staff were just doing their jobs. They didnt seem to enjoy what they did with the exception of one girl. Nobody had any authority to do anything except the manager who I found to be very nice but unhelpful.

Entertainment was okay on one night but it was in one small room.

If you have no worries about what rubbish you put into your body in terms of food and free cheap alcohol , if you have no intention of sleeping at night and if you like noise then this is the place for you but if not steer well clear. As they say you get what you pay for and in this case it cost me money to move to a different hotel which in my view was well worth it.

Knock it down(which from what I heard was what is happening eventually anyway)!!!!

We thought that the rooms were very clean and were also cleaned by the maids everyday (if you were up).

The food was ok we had different stuff every night except for the snacks which where mostly the same!

The location was good as it was right next to the beach, and the shops where right out side the hotel!

The staff were ok they were polite but dint speak any English except the English lady at reception.

there were entertainment every night, which was mostly for adults but sometimes had a disco.

This has to have been the worst place in the world!

When we got to the hotel, the man handed us a key to room 310. So off we trot to the lift (about the size of a single wardrobe).

As soon as my boyfriend opened the bathroom door the smell of raw sewage hit us. I marched straight back down stairs and demanded to be moved. We were given a room on the second floor, which was fine but we overlooked bog land. A couple of days into the holiday we had ants all in the room so my partner went downstairs and asked if anyone was coming to sort them out, the unexpected reply we got from the man was what do you expect your in Spain and anyway I have ants in my house too! So we dealt with the problem ourselves.

There were clean sheets and towels everyday.

The food, well I don't think there is a word to describe the rubbish the served up everyday. Oh, hope you like moouse for pudding and snack times consist of tasteless chips, bacon fat and burgers! Tip put the stale bread in the microwave to soften it up!

The location was ok, the beach is just across the road but you have to go underground to get to it as there is a railway line in front of the hotel which sounds like a rumble of thunder every time a train goes past. But be careful as it rained everyday on our break the passage to go to the beach was flooded to the top and the firemen were called to suck the water out.

The staff are ignorant and always on the defencive side, there is a sign in reception saying do not blame the staff for the weather! Watch out for Linda.

Entertainment - what entertainment???

I would never ever go back here again!

Yeah yeah the food was bad we got well fed up with it after two days, thank god for the kebab shop up the road. We thought the hotel was well kept every day the cleaners were up at the door at 8am but there was a bad smell in the toilet later on in the day as if there was a build up at times of the day.

Our room was on the front on the third floor road ahead and pool to the left the view was fab got used to the trains but the quads well I would have done without them we spent a lot of time on the balcony and I think if we had a room at the back we would have been out loads more. It was a mess round there and we enjoyed just sitting people watching and we took our drinks up to the room at night as well because in the bar area it was just a rabble and well as for the entertainment we went to Champions bar round the road next to the Rovers bar that was good fun for us that sounds bad.

We ate at the kebab shop and drank in a pub oh I should have said we also went to burger king one day for lunch in St Susanna, they tell you in the hotel you can eat at any of the H top hotels so we thought we would go to one for dinner, and then when we asked they told us we could only go for lunch and the bus would pick us up at 9.30am! We did not bother because it was out for dinner that we wanted.

Well I had stayed at the Planamar in May of this year and vowed to go back before the end of the year, which I did.

Was a bit disappointed that all the Bar Staff had changed and the replacements were not very friendly. However by my departure, at least one had smiled - perhaps the language barrier is a problem???

Rooms clean and tidy and no problems with the smells that other reviewers had indicated. The bath taps could have been doing with a bit of a clean.

This time the accomodation was at the back of the hotel looking on to waste ground - but not a problem to me.

Yes, the food was a bit repetitive, but that was easily rectified by having the odd meal either in a sister hotel (by booking the previous day) or one of the other local hostelries.

I put the problem with the food down to the fact that I am visiting a foreign country and their cooking skills/seasoning are different to ours, as are the ingredients used in the meals.

Had dinner in the Royal Sun (Santa Sussana) and lunch at the Royal Beach (Lloret) and food was much the same. Anyone staying inclusive with H Top Hotels could do much worse that going on the trip to the Gran Palace for the Show (Dancing and a Magician) and as much Champagne as you want (all for 8 euros each which was for the cost of the Coach).

"I will return"!!!!!!!!!!

Return visit to hotel from August, stayed last week before hotel closes for season, room a bit small, but we only slept and got dressed in it, was very clean.

Food was hot and varied could possibly do a bit more for children we ate at a sister hotel Royal Sun in Santa Susana and food was of same standard.

Hotel only has main road seperating it from beach accessed by underpass but to get best value we visited Royal Sun if we had day on beach as it is on the beach and has a beach bar. The area of Malgrat we have found to be relaxed and feel safe letting the children to go and buy sweets and pizzas from the local shops on the front parade on their own. Evening entertainment typical for Spain and this area and clientel hotel caters for, if you want more livley entertainment visit hotels in Callela or Loret.

The hotel group offer two free nights out,pay only for transport about £6.5 per person, Flamenco and Medieval night excellent value would recomend medieval night for families. One main reason for the return to this hotel for the third time in two years is the staff, we found them to be friendly and very helpfull, there can be a small language barrier with the bar staff but be polite to them and glady be the same to you, no such problems behind reception Spanish speak good English, and Linda who is British born never found any request too much trouble to deal with.

We hope to be returning to this hotel with a group of about 40 in summer 2006.

Stayed in the planamer hotel Oct 05, had great weather for time of year. Everybody is quite right the food could be better, very basic and repetitive.

Location was good just over the road from the beach and 5 minute walk from the sports bars. Rooms were small but adequate to sleep, change nad shower.

Entertainment wasn't upto much but we stayed in the last week of the season. Bit miserable about guests enjoying themselves and wanted everyone to go to bed at 12.00pm, usually on an all inclusive package you get free drinks until 12 then have tp pay for them not sent to bed!!!!

In all this holiday was very reasonablly priced and you get what you pay for.

We arrived late at night which was possibly the best thing to happen otherwise I don't think we would have got off the coach!!

The hotel was admittedly clean and the cleaners (although they arrive very early in the morning!) did a very good job. The food was somewhat lacking and indeed whatever was left from lunch was served up as some sort of casserole in the evening.

The location was ok, except the day after we arrived there was a mini typhoon which seemed to flood the whole town!

The staff were friendly enough but maybe that's because we spoke the lingo! Entertainment was fairly non existant although the flamenco and brazillian nights were a giggle. The only thing really that kept us going throughout the holiday was the rovers pub round the corner (great cup of tea and a wonderful fry up with REAL bacon).

Would only ever go back if I had a bulldozer in tow.

We have just returned from a great holiday. The weather was good for the time of year. The hotel was clean. The view from some of the rooms is not very good but have the benefit of being the quietest.

The food although edible became boring after the third day. With an abundance of ingredients its a shame the chef couldnt have been a bit more adventurous particularly with the puddings. Even he looked bored with what he was dishing up. Although snacks were available all day these were limited and you had to sit in the canteen with them and could not take anything outside.

We have had a great holiday and an improvement on the food would have made it complete.

The location of the hotel cannot be beaten as you will find yourself close to all the local shops, straight over the road (and train track) to the beach and right in the centre of all the action.

The hotel was clean and tidy, with friendly staff and plenty to drink.

The rooms are quite small and spending too much time in them will feel claustrophobic, but there are two lounges, a bar area, a conservatory and an outside terrace.

Now, the food. Choice there is. Plenty of fresh fruit, salad etc but the meals were unappetising, did not taste good and were poorly labeled so you didn't know what that mush in front of you really was. On odd occasions there were some nice choices, but we ate most at "snack times", which offered chips, burgers, more salad and ice cream (in tiny little pots) or we went out to a restaurant, which you don't expect to do when you purchase an all inclusive holiday.

The entertainment consisted of a show each evening by amateur performists. Don't expect a west end musical and you won't be disappointed. If you think you are fortunate to get a pool and beach facing room, your opinion will rapidly change when you are subjected to the disco noise that bellows out through the resort, street and around the area because its that loud. The music is also the same each evening finished off with a painful rendition of the Titanic song sung by the girl in charge of entertainment.

One moto that has kept us going is that you do get what you pay for. This wasn't a holiday we would choose, but being in a good town, so close to Barcelona (11EUR for 2 return tickets)made it better and we would go back, but not to the Planamar.

The hotel food was always the same not really the place to go for veggies unless you want salad all the time. The ice creams don't come in cone just a tub and they are not always available. The restaurant is self service and open most of the time.

The hotel was clean didn't see any cockroaches or flies throughout the hotel.

The air conditioning keeps the rooms cool.

The hotel staff were ok some nicer than others.

The entertainment wasn't up to much but there were things on not like a Haven campsite.

The hotel is in need of some modernisation.

No lifeguard at the pool thoughout the time of our visit not really the place to go for a swim, full of young kids.

The food wasn't half as bad as everyone made out. While I was there they had turkey legs-lamb chops-pork-chips-potatoes-salads-bacon-burgers-even squid. There was quite a wide selection as long as you ate at the actual meal times and not snack times.

I found the staff to be helpful.

The rooms were tidy-but the maids do try and come to clean your room very early. Usually about 8.30.

The area of the hotel - Malgrat- is excellent especially for shopping. You will get a chance to go on a Medas island cruise be warned it does involve a 5 hour bus trip all together, although the cruise is only for 2 hours, but it is quite good.

The safe & fridge rental was a great option which we took.

The rooms were on the small side but not cramped, the individual climate control in the room was a real bonus.

The hotel was very clean, with the rooms being cleaned every day with fresh towels left.

The food was good (never went hungry) with at least 1 fish dish and 2 meat dishes every meal time. People who put comments that the food was poor must have wanted A La Carte style food which you dont get with a self service buffet.

The entertainment was good with a mixture of things for everyone.

Already looking forward to going back in summer 2006

All inclusive is definately a waste of money here as you cannot bring snacks or ice cream out of the dining room to the pool side. You cannot enter the dinning room unless fully dressed.

Hotel was spotlessly clean.

The food was the worst we have ever tasted and the choice was very limited .If you didnt eat the food from one sitting it was dished up as something else at the next sitting. The meat was of very poor quality and was not cooked thoroughly.

The hotel location was good it was central to all amenities and was next to train station, beach, shops, resturants(which you will need).

A few of the hotel staff were rude, but were brought into line by the manager after complaints from customers.

Entertainment (A JOKE) two teenagers doing their best.

The air conditioning in the hotel packed in for 3 days no fans or alternative was available myself and other customers ended up with infection through this.

I took my grandaughter on her first ever holiday decided all inclusive would be the best she is 14 years old. Food was terrible they would not allow her to eat of the children menu they said she was to old.

The lamb chops had no meat on. The lamb was breast of lamb very fatty and again little meat only veg was on Sunday. Dried up sprouts and very watery mash potatoes.

I have been going to Spain for 21 years this was the worst ever, I know you have to accept that meals are different than home but this food I wouldnt feed to a dog or put in the pig swill.

This was my first holiday abroad and was a bit dubious as to what I would find.

I was extremely lucky to be allocated Hotel Planamar, on arrival. The room was clean and well looked after by the chambermaids.

I had reservations about the food, but normally found something in the buffet to my liking (being in a foreign country I expected to find food that wouldn't be to my liking). When I return again in October, I will be bringing my own supply of Salt & Pepper (as the Spanish varieties don't season as well as ours).

I will also be brining my own Travel Kettle as there are no Tea/Coffee facilities in the rooms.

The location of the Planamar couldn't be better. Close to a few British/Irish owned bars. A five minute walk to the Train Station and close to that a brilliant little Chinese Restaurant with a 5 euro menu (Starter, Main Course and Drink) if you don't like what's on offer at the hotel.

Entertainment while I was there was pretty good - Flameno Dancers, Jugglers, British Duo on various nights and a DJ most nights. The bar staff were very friendly and the odd tip when being served your all inclusive drinks may have helped.

As I have indicated earlier, I am returning in mid-October to the Planamar and will be taking my wife this time.

While staying at this hotel I learned a new four letter word beginning with the letter F ie food. The food at this hotel has to be seen to be believed, I say seen as I would hate anybody to have to taste it.

To be fair the food improved after about three days(just) but that was only after a large number of guests cornered the Rep and demanded that she do something about it now and not later.

We should have guessed something was not right after having to load our own luggage onto the coaches while the drivers stood around comparing mobile phones and then having to stand in a queue for about two hours waiting to register at the hotel.

The room was fine and was very clean with wonderful views of the main railway line to Barcelona which roars past every 15 minutes, to be far you hardly notice them during the day but it was the loudest alarm clock I have ever had on holiday starting about 6am.

There is hardly any entertainment at this resort apart from the usual bars and pizza joints which were ok.

The Rovers Return bar does a nice breakfast I say a nice breakfast unlike the Planamar which often included chicken wings and fish fingers (yum yum not).

All the staff at the hotel were brilliant considering the long hours that they work and the air conditioning was always on which was lovely.

All in all a very dissapointing holiday made all the worse by that four letter word. - Food.

Great Hotel and location but? the food was a little bit of a let down, got better has the week went on. TIP, Book to go and have your meals at the THE ROYAL SUN which is about a mile down the road. This was a 4 star hotel and it showed the food was absoluely brilliant book early has you can because it does book up fast. The hotel rooms are of a small but decent size we got the one directly above the pool with a great view of the sea. The train run past the front of the hotel which was no problem with the station about 5 minutes away. the train goes to Barcelona which is about 75 minutes away and the train are air conditioned and will cost you 8 euros return which is great value.
the hotel staff were very friend and spoke good english and were very helpful.
The entertainment was not up to much George done his best but was not upto much, but if you go up to the Royal sun for your dinner you can stay for drinks and watch the enterainment there.
overall good location, great staff room for improvement but value for money.

The hotel is a small friendly hotel. It has only one dining area where all meals and snacks must be eaten. There is only one bar serving drinks from 10am-12pm all inclusive. After 12 you have to pay for drinks.Drinks are limited to two per customer.Dining area gets very busy but you can always get a table. There is no dress code as such but no bikini or topless males.

Food was basic not a great choice but was always fresh and constantly topped up.We were there for two weeks and saw no cockroaches or mosquitos.

Hotel staff are very polite and helpful also all speak english. The hotel is 50m from the beach.Although you have to go under a subway to get past the road and railway line.the road and railline are really not a problem you hardly notice them.

Rooms are small but very clean and cleaned daily with fresh towels. The pool is not huge but is a good size.you have to get your towels out early. It will get very busy when the kids club play their games and you will get wet. Most people got involved with the fun but if you just want to relax it is best to use the beds on the lower garden area. The entertainment was very funny at times.mostly like butlins on a much smaller scale.kids disco, some adult games, quizzes, outside entertainers.mostly good fun if you join in.

Loads of shops and bars along the road plus places to eat if you fancy a change.

We recently stayed in the Planamar Hotel on a all inclusive basis. The Hotel is small which shows with the lack of facilities for children there is no childrens club or a room inwhich children could play, only a tv room for adults inwhich the children seemed to congregate in the evening, though the management were not happy with this, there is an outside pool which is small with no paddling pool for the little ones, the entertainment for children was the mini disco at 9.00pm by which time parents were pulling their hair out and small children not interested at all in "chocolatee".

With our holiday we had two so called free excursions with one being a medievelle night, this sounded great with the rep saying you only pay 10 euros per person for the coach all beers food and entertainment were all included (so no money was needeed), great we thought 40 euros less we went to the evening, the show was fantastic with free food, orange, water for children and red wine for adults but no beer, oh well you dont mind paying for beer 4.75 euros a pint we could not beleive it we were told everthing was free, after the show there is a disco, i went to the bar to order another beer and free wine and orange but now we had to pay for everything, we were told all drinks were included obviously not, so we all got a taxi back to the hotel, not happy paying out more money for a taxi, though we had already paid for a coach inwhich we would have to wait two hours for.

The food at the hotel is terrible lack of choice, with potatoes only coming in chip form, desert being ice-cream or fruit. Snacks were even worse 1 out of 5 for food, the one being the toast we made ourselves. Most guests felt the same and many of us went out for dinner and breakfast.

The only great thing this hotel has to offer is the location, the beach for the kids and cafes for food. The bar staff are great and work hard.

I think management need to take a good look at what they are offering to the customer. This hotel would suit couples on a self catering basis.

Staff seemed friendly and welcoming.

The beach was near and so were shops bars and clubs.

I have read reviews that say the food was bad but I don't agree I thought there was a variety for everyone including children. I can honestly say I didn't go hungry on the holiday and especially not thirsty with the all inclusive drinks.

I would say the hotel was not one of the best but at the end of the day you get what you pay for and I would go there again.

Well where do you start first of all we were in the first coach to arrive at the hotel and still ended up waiting 2 hours for our room because it wasn't ready, and when we got ours there were still people waiting in reception to check in and get to their rooms..

The food was digusting that we ate out most nights, it was chips chips and more chips with the odd potatoes. When you did go in, nothing was lablled so you wouldn't have known what you were eating.

My room was clean and the air con was great. There was a lot of noise at night from some of the other guest who had no respect for anyone else.

Pool was very small it was fine for the kids who seemed to take over the pool anyway.

There isn't a lot there for the kids to do so don't expect too much.

The bar staff were great and very friendly.

The kids club entertainer George was great he tried his best to get everyone to take part which most people did.

As for recommending this hotel, never, as I wouldn't want people to be as disapointed as I was.

We stayed at Planamar, Costa Brava, last July. It was the second day of the hotel being open after its refurbishment.

From the outside it appeared very nice, apart from the ridiculous amount of people queuing to sign in. By this point I was already very tired, as I had a night flight (can't be helped) and a delay at Manchester airport. When we arrived at Gerona Airport everyone was very hot and flustered and just desperate to get there. However that could not happen straight away. After waiting ages to get my luggage (and watching all the kids playing on the conveyor belt) we had hope that we were finally getting somewhere.

We arrived at the bus, and ended up waiting outside it for ages. We later found out that this was because the hotel reception was already too busy to take more people. So we sat on the bus for ages, very hot etc. A couple of hours later, we finally went somewhere.

The driver was very moody and blasted this terrible music, probably to try and get us in the holiday mood, but we were already fed up and just wanted to get there. I now had a headache, prickly heat and was in a very bad mood.

At the hotel we decided to wait around the pool until the queues went down. I opened my case, got my bikini and jumped straight in the pool.

It was inadequately sized compared to the number of people in the hotel, with splashing kids everywhere, and not enough sunbeds. It was very refreshing though. The barmen were very good and gave us drinks before we had signed in, because everyone was very dehydrated.

A few hours after that, we decided to try the food and I have to admit it was a very welcome meal, although it wasn’t wonderful. The whole time I lived on chips and bread. The drinks were average, and flat.

The rooms were not wonderful but met our most basic needs. They were fairly clean, and the air conditioning was quite good. The view consisted of a scrap field, and the bins of the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel in summer 04 weather was beautiful and hot so air con in rooms was a great welcome.

Have read a lot of these reviews and a lot say food not up to much, but i'm a picky eater and i never went hungry, after all when your not paying for the ritz you can't expect it!!!!!!

Location isn't to bad plenty of shops to wander up and down and beach right accross the road, very handy when you get hungry,

We travelled to Barcelona on the train and thorughly enjoyed it.we picked the hottest day to go and the open top bus was a bit much so be warned if very hot!!!!!

All the staff very friendly and any problems soon rectified.we requested extra pillows and got them promptly.
Not much in the way of entertainment but we made friends with two other couples and had a great time.

Would reccomend this hotel and we are looking to go back again summer 05.

We have just arrived back fromt this hotel (15/05/05).

The hotel was clean, nice pool, good bar.

The receptionist and bar staff we really helpful and kind and always had time to talk to you.

However the food was awful. We only stopped for 3 nights and every day we ate out. It was always cold and looked like it had been there from the day before.

The entertainment was what you expect for a hotel. And if you are married and hate sharing your bed then this is the hotel for you as you don't get a double bed.

However if you do go all inclusive and you too can't stomach the food there is a really good bar if you turn left outside of the hotel and walk to the roundabout.

It is called the Crown and Anchor. What a breakfast!!!!.
