| said: booked our holiday only days prior to departure. very apprehensive about the hotel after reading some reviews. we found the hotel to be very clean and pleasant. as it was all inclusive it took away the stress of finding somewhere to eat. the food was excellent with a lot of choice. drinks were on tap all day. the beach was beautiful and the see delightfully warm. even though we do not usually go for holidays which are commercial we were pleasantly surprised that the entertainment (mainly for children) was not really in your face, you could join in if you wished or just relax on a sun lounger. we had a standard room for 4, which was standard but it was very clean and sheets and towels were changed every day. it was adequate for us as we only sleep and shower in it. the only negative point is that the matresses were a little worse for wear and my youngest son had a camp bed (but he said it was ok)

| said: Stayed at this hotel for a week with two sons aged 17 and 21. Was expecting standards to be a lot higher than they were. Definitely only 2-3 star hotel.
Hotel was overbooked when we arrived and our room was really smelly, someone who smoked really heavily had been in the room before us and it was very unpleasant. Rooms were dark and dingy although reasonably well furnished. There seems to be 3 or 4 different grades of accommodation. We were transferred to a standard room which was clean but very basic but did have a nice view.
Staff were quite unhelpful at times and not very friendly.
Entertainment was very amateur and childish.
Food not bad but the same every day and on every occasion (i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner) you had to queue before entering the restaurant even though there was numerous empty tables. The Chinese restaurant was good but you had to be queueing at reception from 7.30 am in the morning to get a booking for the following day, if you were lucky. The Taverna was good and the manager and staff were the most friendly we came across at the hotel.
There was definitely not enough sunbeds to accommodate everyone who wanted them and you definitely wouldn't find one vacant if you went down after 9 am. Although the hotel stipulates people cannot reserve them, all beds had towels on them from approximately 7.30 am.
Not a lot to do in the resort only a few bars in Kokkini Hani and they were deserted most nights. The hotel would benefit from a gym and from internet cafe and a better programme of entertainment. There is lots of space in the basement which is unused.
Swimming pools were not cleaned sufficiently. One day a child was sick in the pool and apart from the parent trying to deal with it nobody from the hotel seemed to care. The remnants of sick floated around for a couple of days. Tiles around the pools were broken and dangerous. Lots of steps around the hotel so if you have any mobility problems would not recommend this hotel.
Definitely would not return to this hotel

| said: Arrived early evening, reception staff very pleasant. Hotel overbooked explained we would be in an apartment for 1 night and then they would up grade us to a vip room. which they did and this was excellent very clean and comfortable with hair dryer and fridge.
The food was very good freshly cooked omlettes and pancakes every morning and a full english breakfast if you wanted it.There was always pork, chicken fish and liver to eat, plus a large salad bar and selection of vegatables, even brussel sprouts. although the same most days you could choose something different. The pizza's in the Taverna were really nice, and the chinese resaurant was excellent. to eat in either of these you had to book in reception the day before, start queueing at 8 am.
The hotel was right on the beach and had a supermarket 100 metres away, buy your bottled water for your room here it is 39c instead of 1 euro 10c.There are a number of gifts shops in walking distance and there is a lovely bakery about fivr minutes walk from the hotel. The bus stop is right outside the hotel and the buses are clearly marked where they are going the drivers are very helpful too!.There is a lovely little train which takes you around the resort well worth the 8 Euro's.The hotel is only a short taxi ride from the airport cost about 20 euro's so is cheaper than some coach transfers and is a lot quicker.
The hotel staf where mainly very friendly i did come across a few that were a bit rude but the good far out weighed the bad. They hosed down all of the pool area every morning and cleaned the beach where possible and would always speak as you approached. They soon got to know what you where drinking and after 5.30pm it would be brought to your table a really nice touch.
The entertainment was available if you wanted to join in. The day time entertainment was good and my teenage son had a great time. The evening entertainment eas alittle 'cheesy' but o.k.. The animation team where very friendly and as the hotel had a large number of international guests caters well for all our needs most spoke at least 6 languages fluently.
Overall I did not think this was a 5* hotel possble 4* but had a very enjoyable holiday and would visit again.

The food became a little repetitive, but don't forget you are in Crete!! but there really was enough choice, even for me and I'm wheat intolerant!!
The hotel Rinela Beach is situated directly on the beach, and I must say we were in a standard room which had a beautiful view over the whole resort as well as the sea. The room was clean but basic, bed was a little lumpy but nothing really to complain about.
I had no problems with the staff at all , they were all friendly and helpful. I had read reviews on this hotel and I was dreading this hol, but I wasn't disappointed
All, I will add that this is not a 5 star hotel but I would rate as a 3 star, I would also add that a 5 star in England is going to be different to a 5 star in Crete !

| said: Myself and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel on an All Inclusive basis for one week. I was slightly apprehensive about staying here following some of the reviews that I had read. However when we arrived we were greeted by a large and impressive reception area that was extremely clean.
We were checked in within about 5 minutes and the reception lady explained about the hotel and how to book in for the Chinese and Taverna. She gave us a hotel layout sheet showing exactly where our room was situated and how to get there.
We were pleased with our room - like many others we did not rate the room as 5* more like 3*. It was basic but it was clean and and was of a large size also with a good size bathroom. It had everything that we needed so we had no concerns with the room.
The main pool area was of a large size and generally clean. The pool itself was clean except for the tiled edges which had scum around the top - this didn't change all week. However if you were not up by about 8.30am then it is unlikely that you would get a sunbed. Although the hotel has signs saying that reservation of sunbeds with towels or other personal belonging is forbidden and items would be removed this was never enforced. This was also the case on the beach.
The beach itself was nice and the snack bar here very helpful and friendly.
We thought the food in the hotel was extremely good. Although it was the same every day the choice was huge. The food was always fresh and was continuously topped up. The taverna had a lovely fresh salad bar and the pizza's are made in front of you - they were excellent. The Chinese restaurant however was undoubtedly the best. The food was excellent as was the service. Although you have to be at reception by 8am to book (otherwise all places would be taken) we managed to eat here 3 times during our one week stay.
We found the staff generally very helpful and friendly. We came across one or two that were a bit rude but the others more than made up for this.
The animation team were excellent - there was always something going on to suit everyone and they did so much to keep the children occupied and happy. They were all extremely friendly and encouraged people to get involved although left you alone if you did not wish to participate in anything.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday here and had a good week away.

The staff were friendly but you did get the odd one! food and hotel overall is 3 star not 5 but it was the best in that area. And if you want a chinese you have to be at reception at 8am the day before and that means on the dot also you must book taverna the day before at reception.
Nothing much outside hotel but if you want to just have a relaxing holiday and not move its ok but we went on the cruise to Santorini that was worth the money. It was nothing to do with company we travelled with it was the hotel that overbooked in the end we got upgrade to a vip room without the vip treatment after one night in the less than one star hotel next door but some people were still ther after 4 days.

| said: The hotel is in a very nice position right on the beach plenty of sunbeds but you do need to be early to get a bed.
The food in the hotel is very much the same every day although always fresh it is the same both lunch and dinner, the hotel operates a long trouser for men even though some people were wearing beach shorts in the evening.
The rooms are cleaned every day with towels being changed at the same time, tv in room with satellite not very good, not a lot of english channels to watch apart from the news.
The toilets in the hotel need to be looked at they are so dirty dont seemed to be cleaned on a regular basis.
The Entertaiment team work very hard just a pity there is not enough room to accomodate every 1 in the entertainments centre.
The hotel reception tend to be a little rude maybe thats because there under so much pressure.
The bar staff work very hard in the day and even more at night due to the fact theres not enough and the time you have to wait is not acceptable.
All in all the hotel does try to live up to its 5 stars but in reality its only a good 3 star.

| said: Having read previous reports before going, I contacted the hotel by e-mail and upgraded to VIP room, this was much cheaper than booking through the travel agent who didn't actually have anything in their brochure about upgrades! I would recommend this as I think it made our stay so much better.
I did hear a few people complaining about their rooms and we had no complaints whatsoever. The room and extras were really worth it. Check what you get on their website.
There are many steps in the hotel which was okay for us but people with children were having problems with pushchairs and it would also be a problem for anyone with any disabilities.
Although there was almost the same food daily there was so much choice that you could have something different daily. The waiters are assigned to their own bit of the dining room and these all seemed to be very friendly.
There is entertainment around the main pool daily but if you don't want to join in you are left alone to relax. Although some of the music got a little aggravating.
There are free water sports available on the beach but these have to be booked up well in advance because they are a bit limited.
The evening entertainment is a bit dire. The kiddies stuff starts very late in the evening and as the evening gets on you have to wait quite a while for the waiter to get you drink.
Despite being quite close to the airport the noise from the planes didn't seem too bad and in fact it was excellent for transfer time!
It's a very good place to start if you hire a car which we did with the hire car place in reception. The hire agreement was in English and seemed to cover everything and was a great deal cheaper than booking through the tour company. Now that the new national road has been built it's very easy to drive around.
On the whole we had an excellent holiday and would recommend it (although with an upgrade!!)

| said: My visit to Rinela Beach Hotel took place between 3 - 10 May 2005. Overall, I was very happy with my early season visit enjoying the package and warm sunny weather. I would estimate occupancy at about 60%. The UK agent was Sunstar Leisure, flights seemed to be through Olympic Odyssey and on Island administration and tour representation was by Aegean Travel.
The 3 agencies mentioned above all fulfilled the contract and Sunstar kept me well informed. The Aegean agent’s hotel visits were not well spaced through the week, 3 visits. However, she was contactable through an emergency number. Olympic Odyssey stated that they needed 48 hour confirmation of return flight booking but I did that through the Aegean Rep. Transfers to and from the Airport were efficiently conducted and the journey time between airport and hotel was about 15 minutes. Only 1 downside was beyond the tour operators. Queuing for check in was chaotic and poorly controlled with the choke point being the x-raying of baggage prior to check in. The departure lounge is quite inadequate for the number of departing passengers.
The Rinela Beach Hotel facilities can be seen on www.mitsis-rinelabeach.com. The site accurately gives the hotel facilities but all my emails were returned stating that the hotels mailbox was full. Before I follow the Hotel pattern with observations I will comment on some of the complaints I have seen. The Hotel is about 400 metres off the usual airport approach. The aircraft can be heard but I did not regard the noise as intrusive and could barely hear them when I was in my room. Reception staff always took a courteous approach to me but did show frustration towards a guest that could not speak a language with which they were not familiar. Waiting staff served drinks efficiently during waiter service only hours. There were no queues in either of the main or Taverna restaurants.
I stayed in a standard room that provided everything as advertised except for the music radio. No shampoo was given and the ration of soap a little meagre. Room maintenance was efficient. Storage is not great and laundry services are available at the hotel, not mentioned in any room brochures, or in the village about 800 metres from the hotel.
The main restaurant and Taverna serve similar food that varies little from day to day. However, the choice was large although repetitions would be unavoidable during a 2 week stay. The Taverna requires booking at Reception either the day before for lunch bookings or the early morning for same day evening bookings. The Taverna is by the beach and convenient for those idling on the beach. Now note this. The Chinese was delicious despite a relatively small menu, very popular. You must book this 36 hours ahead. If you do not book between 0730 and 0830 the day before you want to eat Chinese you will not get a seat. And that was low season!! All day snacks are merely adequate. They fill a hole.
The pools are clean and the sports programme is full. The activities are known as ‘Animations’ and although you are invited to participate there is no heavy pressure. During my stay there were no Animations on Monday. Some of the Animations are in the vicinity of the large pool and some people may think the noise intrusive so for those, select a bed by the small pool or the beach. Beach beds might be in short supply in the high season.
Prices in the Hotel Shop are expensive. You can buy 6 bottles of water for a few cents more in the village than 1 bottle in the Hotel Shop. However, newspapers such as the Mail and Mirror, published on the same day in Greece and available in the early same day morning are sold at the printed price.
Think carefully before hiring a car. The bus runs from just outside the hotel giving regular and speedy access to Iraklion. Onward connections are also good. Additional to the tours operated by your tour companies there are at least 2 island tour operators situated in the adequate but not noisy village.
Overall, this holiday filled all my expectations. I have no major gripes and am happy to recommend this holiday to anyone who has not previously tried an All Inclusive. Especially so if you take it out of high season. I arrived home relaxed and with fond memories of the hotel, village and the island. Importantly, I arrived home feeling in a relaxed state of mind but debating whether or not an All Inclusive offers all. At least for me. A valuable experience that lacked nothing but may not be quite my thing.

| said: Check in procedures a joke. We arrived at 6.00am local time and finally got a room at 9.30am after travelling from 1.00pm the previous day. The staff were running around like headless chickens as there were only 2 members of staff trying to book in over 200 people.
A lot of refurbishment work was still being done and we were woken up at 7.30am every morning with building works.
There were stray dogs and cats wondering around the hotel.
Reception was tidy but the rooms were little more than concrete chalets which were rated as 5* (cracked floor tiles, no plugs in sink/bath, patched up sinks and bath, bathroom door wouldn't shut, ants/cockroaches found in many rooms.
The food was great for the first couple of days then became less appetizing as it was always the same dishes served with maybe one or two changes. Waiters/waitresses helpful but very few of them. As the dining room got fuller the chefs became agitated and rude towards guests (i.e. almost throwing the food onto their plates).
Reception staff very rude.
Entertainment facilities OK but not enough seating for everyone making the place cramped, crowded and uncomfortable for guests. At lease half hour wait to get a drink on an evening. Had to pay extra for 5* treatment (i.e. room service, mini bar, one beach towel for the whole week). Found it quicker to go back to the room and get room service after the evening meal to be served with a drink.
Some of the facilities not open (i.e. beach bar, pool bar). Hotel wasn't really ready to be open.
We would visit the hotel again but maybe later in the year when hopefully it would be ready for the amount of guests the hotel can hold with maybe a lot more staff.

We were not on the transfer so we bypassed the lady until she stopped us and said it was closed. We arrived before the transfers which was good as some of them had to wait till 12:00 p.m. until they had a room as there wasn't enough space.
Basically the whole plane was at this hotel. We arrived at the hotel expecting 5* luxury which it definitely wasn't, the room stank of paint, we were frozen at night and the bed was damp. There was no shower hook and the sink was plastic.
The water was browny/yellowy and lukewarm. Many people complained but hardly anyone was moved. The rooms were concrete blocks. The reception staff kept saying different things each time you went up.
The food was not that nice and all the same. It was nicer in the Taverna and the Chinese restaurant. There was a bus stop outside the hotel where it is possible to catch a bus to Iraklion for 1.30 euro.
The staff were not helpful or friendly but the animation team were talkative, friendly and happy. The entertainment varied each night but most of the time we went to bed earlier.
The pool was freezing and water was from the sea.
This hotel is definitely not a 5*.

In the main we found this hotel great and as an all inclusive it did everything it said on the tin!

The other major let down was the bathroom, the shower did not attach to the wall and was just slightly to short to reach my head.
The staff, in general were friendly (the reps could be a little too full on - but arn't they always) I did get the impression they were more interested in going home, as we were in the last week before the end of season, think they were all a bit knackered. The entertainment is more for kids really, very participative so if you dont want to join in steer clear!

The food was very good, something for everyone, although there are 3 very good restaurants the food is the same every day.
It is in a great location. The weather was exceptional also. There are not many shops but the ones there are are good.
The staff at the hotel were so friendly and my whole family made good friends with the reps.
At night time in the theatre there is always a show, although we were only there for a week, we got a very good taste of the entertainment. We all had a good laugh at night.
Overall I couldn't have asked for anything better, the hotel has a very well earned 5 stars.

Not a 5 star hotel only about a 3 star.
The reception area was very nice & so was the restaurant. The best food was the chinese, you had to book as soon as you arrived to guarantee a meal in it.
The staff were very rude & unfriendly, I am sure not all of greece is like that. The location of the hotel was by bus stops that took you either direction.
Never saw entertainment while we were there, it never started until 10pm.....after bingo. From what I heard it was done by inhouse staff & was very poor.
We will not be returning to this hotel or Crete again.

The food was good a huge assortment, salad bar, pasta chef, soup, hot food, cold food, doner chef, doughnut and crepe chef. Food always fresh but got a bit samey after a few days. They have a taverna and chinese (which was excellent) Both the taverna and chinese have to be pre-booked and I'd suggest you do this as soon as you arrive as they get booked up a week in advance. Would suggest the taverna for lunch and the chinese for dinner as often as you can book it.
The location is good - on a nice beach with a few shops, bars, tavernas etc right on the door step. Also a few supermarkets around which are good places for buying water etc.
The staff were friendly especially in the main restaurant.
The entertainment by the animation team was good as far as hotel entertainment goes but the lads there tend to try and get a little over familiar with the ladies as my friend and I found out.
I would visit the hotel again as it is deffinately the highest standard of hotel that I have found on the greek islands to date.

| said: We found Rinela Beach Hotel perfectly acceptable the week we were there. Our room was spotlessly clean close to the main pool and beach. I think we were fortunate to have one of the renovated ones. For a very busy restaurant we found the food was quite nice. As for the staff, none were rude to us and we found them very polite. It was my birthday while we were there and the management sent a bottle of champagne and flowers to our room.
Bingo is not our thing, and the entertainment provided by the animation team in the evening was quite poor so we gave it a miss. Luckily we made new friends and were happy chatting and drinking in the main social area. We have not been all-inclusive before and were pretty open minded about the experience. One aspect we did like there was no embarrassing moments as to whose turn it was to buy the drinks.
We hired a car to tour around the island so buses were not a problem for us. We were provided with a perfectly adequate picnic for lunch, although we did have to visit once a proper Taverna and have Mousaka.

| said: The Hotel was in an excellent location with its own beach, the sea was quite rough while we were there as it was very breezy.
We had upgraded our room which was lovely but talking to other guests their rooms were not as nice.
The reception area and the restaurant had been re-furbished as had some of the rooms, but the rest of the hotel could really do with being re-furbished as well then it would be a 5 star but at the moment it is more like a 3 star.
The food was good, plenty of choice, but the staff were very slow serving drinks. The hotel staff were friendly.
We only went to the theatre for the entertainment twice in the evening, it was not very good at all. There was quite a few activities going on in the day, volleyball, aerobics, darts, etc.
Overall we had a good holiday, the weather was excellent and we met some nice people and had a nice chill, which was what it was all about.

| said: Having booked to go to Rinella beach thinking it was a 5 star, was very dissapointed to find it was only about a 3 star property.
My partner and I were very lucky as the hotel was at capacity when we were there so we had a VIP room which was around 4 star standard. The other rooms looked not to comfortable to say the least.
The hotel and its facilities had everything you needed to enjoy a weeks holiday, two weeks may become slightly tedious??
Food was excellent... especially the chinese.
All staff were lovely and fell over themselves to help you.
Definately recommend this hotel.

| said: We holidayed as a family of four (kids aged 7 and 18months) in August. We had in fact won the holiday so could be objective about the whole experience. The hotel foyer and staff were great - the entertainment team work their socks off (although it can all get a bit cheesy & a bit much at times)- The food was fantastic and the main restaurant has a small childrens restaurant with kiddy-friendly food and staff where they can eat with their friends.
The chinese and taverna are outstanding but get your name down in advance! Unfortunately all the pools are very salty - our daughter commented that the sea on the (great) beach stung her eyes less! The rooms are barely 3 star really and certainly not 4 or 5 star rating.
There are NO lifts in the hotel, and no ramped walkways so we did spend two weeks lifting the buggy up and down steps all over the hotel complex!
Overall a great holiday but NOT very baby/toddler friendly and though the main parts of the hotel have been re-vamped the rooms (and we saw several) all need some gutting & updating desperately.Butlins in Greece sums it up !!!

| said: The All Inclusive option is good value, no problems with number of drinks for each person and the vodka levels are huge! The hotel is 14 years old and in my view hasnt really been refurbished since then. The food quality is very good, however its the same choice every night - it gets a bit boring after 3 days. The hotel does have 2 other venues to eat in, but unless you book as soon as you check in they are full. The location was very nice, its right next to the beach.

| said: Hotel was the best i have stayed in for at least ten years. Hotel was always clean and tidy, the food was always plentiful hot and very nice. Waiting staff always eager to be of assistance. Location was right on the beach, and a good number of shops for visitors where just outside the hotel. You must try the Dotto train which picks up outside the hotel as is only 7 euros and is a good 45 min land train trip.

| said: The food is excellent, we had a 4 month baby, 4 year old and 11 year old, the taverna does great pizza and pasta all freshed cooked. The main restaurant is great with special counters for omelletes, crepes, and terrific salad, fruit, puddings, etc. The chinese restuarant which we visited twice in a week was great.
The only thing was the waiter service for drinks in the evening was a bit slow. Not particularly suitable for pushchairs or young children because of steps. We were originally put in a room two floors up with no lift and the room they moved us to was very cramped. The accommodation is split into hotel rooms and bungalows and some of the bungalows are rather old and shabby
