Hotel cleanliness - Even after the cleaner had been the room wasn't as clean as you would expect. General maintenance not the best - lights not working/furniture broken. One evening we had no water until the following morning with no warning or apology.

Location - good for the beaches and for getting the ferry to San Antonio Town.

Staff - reception never manned so any problems had to be addressed to the sister hotel - which wasn't ideal.

We stayed at this hotel on an all inclusive basis on the first week of August and decided to take our 16 month old son with us. I have to say I was very unimpressed with this place. There was no staff at this apartment so you had to deal with staff at the san remo which is part of the same company. When you had a problem the staff would tell you to see the xaloc manager. When I enquired further I was told be the mangement the xaloc has no staff. We arrived at the hotel at aroung 3am so we just wanted to get to bed for a few ours. When we arrived there was no resavation for us at all and on top of this the receptionist was turning the air blue because a drunken holiday maker dared to politly ask for his key back. With alot of running backwards and forwards they eventually gave us a room 14 hours after we arrived.
My experiences with the staff were also very negative. I found them rude and on a regular basis you would hear them shouting, swearing and ridiculing customers. They also refused to give us our 40 euro deposit back for our safe key and air conditioning control because we didn't have a receipt (we were never given a receipt. The hotel in itself was adequate apart from light switches here and there hanging off the wall (just a lack maintenance.)

Well what can I say, other than what an excellent place the Xaloc is, we got back yesterday and are already planning to go to these apartments next year.

We arrived at 5am very tired, and yes as previously posted the coach does drop you off across the road, but I should say it is no hardship even with 3 suitcases and two small children (11 & 8).

The apartment are very spacious particularly the lounge area where the kids beds were - a pull out and sofa bed which are more than adequate for the ages of our kids.

The bathroom was lovely, clean and bright, the kitchen was well equipped, the best thing was the aircon - free - just a 20 euro deposit for the remote which is refunded on departure and what a difference it makes, easily controlled and changes the room temperature in minutes. We had a TV but only got the usual few channels but that is all we expected, it was OK for a bit of background music and to keep in touch with the news.

There are no apartments in the Xaloc with pool views which we would have liked to watch the kids, but the pool area was very safe and not overcrowded so we felt relaxed about them being out of view for the odd half hour. No trouble getting a sunbed at any time of day, no rushing down in the morning like some places to get your bed.

The Cafe Royal (the bar/restaurant) attahced it the hotel really made our holiday the fun times it was, the food was excellent for both adults and children, the waiters were very friendly and spoke good English, the evening entertainment was excellent, the kids enjoyed it so much, with something different every night for both kids and adults. Sadie and Paul - the resident entertainers were just brilliant and we were sad to say goodbye to them at the end of our holiday.

The resort itself was not over busy like San Antonio, but not too quiet either, lots of bars and places to eat, everything is fairly contained within easy walking distance.

The beach itself at San An Bay isnt fantastic, but enough if you are feeling like going further a field, but for a full day out on the beach the neighbour Cala Bassa is THE place to go, beautiful shallow blue water with soft sand, a boat goes there from San An Bay 3 times a day and only costs 7 euros return, well worth a visit, Jet Skis are available here too and probably the only place to find them nearby. Other water sports areon the beach at San Antonio and reasonably priced and great fun.

I would be surprised to see a bad review on here for the Xaloc and hope someone else benefits from our experiences and this review by choosing to go there.

I understand Portland are not going to these apartments next year, but they are available in the Sunstart brochure in 2006.

Happy holidaying

Tracy

We travelled on a late deal with Thomson, allocation on arrival.

Nice, well equipped apartment but ones on the front suffer from traffic noise. We asked to be moved to the rear of the building after the first night.

Staff were polite and very helpful.

Pool area was pleasantly quiet in the day, the pool itself was clean and the water surprisingly warm.

Cafe Royale bar has good food, reasonably priced drinks and varied entertainment every night. Usually a kiddies disco followed by bingo/quiz and a cabaret.

Apartments are over the road from the beach and some have sea view. Well placed for bars/restaurants and a ferry crossing to San Antonio at 2 euros.

We had a really good time and the kids particularly enjoyed Paul & Sadie the resident entertainers.

Recommended.

We stayed at the end of october. The apartments are well situated near beach-go to the one near El Pinos-much cleaner than the nearest beach. Easy to get to the water taxi into San Antonio. We walked in a number of times with the pram-easier than catching the bus.

Only drawback was that we were dropped off across the road from the apartments and had to walk, which isn't too bad with older children/singles/couples, but not for us with a load of luggage and a little one in a pram. We were also picked up from there when we left.

The apartments are situated on top of shops and the Pink panther pub which was very noisy at night. 2 beds are in the living room which in our apartment was over the pub. The main road through from Port de torrent into san An. runs outside the apartments and I don't think there was any time of the day or night when there wasn't traffic on it.

The apartments have 3 pools(one a kiddy) the large one is lovely and shelves which is great for kids. It could have done with a clean but it was the end of the season and wasn't too bad that you couldn't use it.

We ate at some lovely restaurants. The Amsterdam (on top of the shops further up the road was a favourite-"all one place" you could have Indian/chinese/english-the burger was one of the best I have ever had and they were lovely with our daughter-brought her a sparkler in her ice cream.

The Cafe Royal underneath the Xaloc was also a nice meal and they had entertainment on every night which we didn't see but it seemed quite popular.

Despite what I have said we did enjoy the holiday and when the weather changed(It was georgeous for the first 9 days) we went into santa Eululia and then to Ibiza town-well worth a trip to see the harbour and round that area.

I would visit Ibiza again but like most of the Balearics I found it more expensive drink wise than say Benidorm.

The Xaloc apartments were fantastic. We only paid £550 for 6 of us in two apartments and what value for money.

Ideally situated near the beach and some superb restaurants. Jackie Browns restaurant really good, they were really good with the kids.

The apartment was really big and clean with maid service every other day. Kitchen equipment not too bad, microwave, hob, toaster, kettle etc.

Hotel staff very polite with good English although I found they really appreciate it when you try to converse in Spanish.

We did not fly back to England until 12.35pm and they let us keep our room free of charge until the coach came at 10pm.

Entertainment was good, a different caberet act every night, could be heard in the rooms but we were so tired it made no difference.

Pools nice and still quite warm for end of October.

All in all excellent holiday.

The hotel was great - but we already knew that because we had been the year before.

It was in a good location, not too quiet - but not heavingly busy. The hotel staff were nice and friendly - especially Maggie - spoke very good english. Also Nestor he was a sweet little dude and he remembered us from the year before.

He was able to pull a few strings to get us a taxi fast one night when we went to Space but oh my goodness - spanish taxi drivers - what a scary experience. I feared for my life.

Our kitchen only came into use at around 7am every morning, just as we came in, to make a little snack - eggy bread rocks! But the kitchen was well equiped. Sunbeds were hard to come by if you werent up at the crack of dawn.

The rep - Stefan was quite sweet (at times) although, make sure the reps tell you all the details about the trips you book - we had a near miss with one as we weren't told the correct time by mistake.
