My husband and I have just returned from a lovely holiday in the Jinene Hotel. The friendly maid kept our basic but spacious room very clean. The majority of the staff were pleasant and helpful and the 'Animation' entertainers were absolutely wonderful keeping us well entertained every night. The restaurant was clean and the food adequate although a little bland, there was plenty to eat and for all tastes. The hotel pool is lovely although we spent more time on the beach which was just a few minutes away. The beech area is quite busy and I would advise any single young ladies to beware of the local 'casanovas' who for some reason are allowed to parade it (there is security to make sure they don't get too near the guests). This is certainly a family hotel and there was an evening disco for the kids which I am sure the adults enjoyed too. All in all we had a great time and we will certainly be returning.

Food at the hotel was the worst I've ever had the only thing I had was the chicken and that was dry.

If the rooms were redecorated and the food improved it would be a bit better but not going back. Same songs every night for the disco.

Go to the irish bar down the road out of the main gate turn right down to the 2nd rounderbout turn right. its about 200yards on your left.(full english breakfast, afternoon tea, live football, darts, karaoke, live music, hot+cold food the steaks are the best mmmm I loved them.... its called O'Conners

The pool area was lovely. Plenty of sunbeds and cushions available.

Bar staff always near at hand to order drinks or food. Beach area was ok. Loads of seaweed though. Not sure if they clean it up in summer. We preferred to stay by the pool.

The entertainment team organised things all through the day and would come round asking if you wanted to participate. No hassle if you just want to sit and read a book. Think this would be a great hotel for families, all the kids there seemed to love it. The entertainment at night was ok. Always a show of some sort followed by a disco. Not my usual cup of tea but it was fine for on holiday. If you don't like it there are plenty of places ouside you can go. Just ask the rep for suggestions. Taxis were very cheap.

Food at the hotel was the worst I've ever had. I'm vegetarian and really struggled unless I wanted cabbage at every meal. It was the same salads at breakfast, lunch and dinner. My husband is not vegetarian but he struggled as well. Breakfast was the worst. After a couple of days we asked if we could have lunch instead of dinner. We ate out every evening. Lots of lovely restaurants in Port el Kantaoui.

Rooms were not the best. Carpet half way up the walls. Cleaned every day though. The rest of the hotel was lovely.

Overall I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. If the rooms were redecorated and the food improved it would be fantastic!

Brilliant hotel, location and weather. Would definately recommend!!!

Me and my friends had a great time here. The nightlife is ok as long as you find the right place and are willing to look. Food ok its edible and there is always plenty of it. Definately worth every penny.

Staff great. Entertainment was ok but was the same every night which got a bit boring. The best thing to do was eat tea, get ready and go out. It is based right in the middle of Sousse and Port El Kantaoui so you always had the choice of which town you wanted to visit. I recommend Kantaoui as there was more to do.

The marina is lovely and you can get cheap boat rides from there. Also there is a water park there which looked really good but was not open due to time of year...Will definatley be going back. Highly recommended to people of all ages.

Staff are great can't do enough although some do make you feel a bit uncomfertable. Would come again as people in Tunisia are really friendly.

Food was ok I suppose, bit repetative and bland.
Rooms kept clean by maids who very friendly.

Would recommend for singles or couples not too good for children.

I have stayed in the Jinene hotel before and it was great, this time we stayed in the Royal Jinene which I found wasn't as good.

One of the receptionists was very rude and arrogant which made you uncomfortable at times.

The rooms were bigger than in the Jinene but not by much. Towels were changed regularly but were often took and not brought back.

Food was good and was always something you liked.

Entertainment is usually great here in the summer but in the winter there's nothing going on because there aren't many people and also the weather is not always hot, so if you want to chill out this is the holiday for you!

It was a good holiday all in all but you can't swim in the outdoor pool it's too cold, although the indoor pool is heated which is a bonus!

To be honest I went back to see my boyfriend who works as an entertainer at the hotel but if it wasn't for him I don't think I would of enjoyed my holiday as much as I did.

If you have children you are better off in the summer when there is more to do.

The rooms are great, the hygiene was brilliant, the food was lovely, the area is great as we loved the bars and restaurants.

The hotel staff are the best I even know the manager he was very nice. I have been here lots and I am going back in 2 weeks to see boyfriend Sam who phones me all the time as we have a son together and he will meet his son for first time he is only 11 weeks old.

The entertainment is top azzy is the best D.J. ever keep up the good work lads hope to see you in two weeks.

Hotel Jinene was clean if not a little dated but it was out the way and nowhere to go especially with a child and especially at night.

We found the food awful and were eating the bare minimum - however on day 5 as I sat down to yet another bit of dry chicken, as I went to cut it up and take a bite a 2" dead insect fell out! Needless to say it was extremely unpleasant for myself and my 8yr old.

The hotel staff all try very hard to make your stay pleasant enough though they aren't always forthcoming with useful information.

If it wasn't for the entertainment team and the good weather then we honestly would have gone nuts. We had to stay in the hotel at nights because there's very little to do elsewhere in the evenings with children.

Bit disappointing.

We stayed at the Jinene hotel for 2 weeks in September 2005.

We found the hotel very nice and clean inside as well as out.

It was only a 5 minute walk to the beach which was very nice for walks.

We stayed half board and found the food OK but repetitive.

There was very little to do outside the hotel so we more or less had to stay and take part in the hotel entertainment which was more suited to families with young children than a couple in their 20s.

The staff were very helpful during our stay and very pleasant.

I would stay at this hotel again, but I would not go back to Tunisia as there is not much to do.

Not a good place to go either if you are an animal lover as several places we went, we observed the terrible living conditions and mistreatment which Tunisia's animals have to endure.

Also, wouldn't advise going on any Thomas cook trips as they are poorly organised and nowhere near worth the money.

Having just returned from a fortnight holiday at the Jinene I found the hotel to be of excellent standard.

The rooms were kept clean, and linen changed every day.

The staff were all friendly and very helpful.

The food was okay although repetitive like the entertainment.

Out side the hotel the pool and gardens were well kept, tho the sun disappears from them after about 4 as it was blocked out by the layout of the Jinene and sister hotel Royal Jinene. the Jinene beach which is not very big, but satisfying is very accessible.

The staff at the beach bar were always a hand which is appreciated if you get a little peckish or thirsty. A few minutes walk to your right you will find bigger beaches along with some watersports. There are a couple of cafes also on site which are also of good standard, though a little pricey compared to others off site.

Children are entertained well of an evening though after a while the tunes get tedious, after which they have the varied adult entertainment i.e. Snake charmer, belly dancer, and a talented chap who lies on glass and a bed of nails.

There are a few cats on the site of the hotel which are fed leftovers from the staff.

All in all we found the hotel very pleasant to stay at and was well worth the money.

This hotel was great! I have been to Tunisia before and loved it so it was no surprise we loved this one too! The pool was great and so was the entertainment, all of the team put a lot of effort into it. Sam being my most favourable! Sniper and Sam are most friendliest people you will meet and me & my friend are going back just for them if not the holiday.

Rooms were visited daily by cleaners and kept nice and tidy, air conditioning was really good and there were no signs of insects at all.

Definately going back this year.

The hotel Jinene is great. The entertainment team were the best. The entertainment team were Sniper, Sam, Gus Djoe and Zusou. Sam and Sniper are the hottest guys on the planet!!!

The wee waiter down at the bar at night spoke to me in French every night; he is very friendly and funny. The barman upstairs from Denmark was a little cutie and always made me feel welcome.

I did not like Adelo love the rest of the team to bits and hope to meet them up for a drink next time I am in town!!

I will definitely be visiting again as soon as I can. I miss the people very much. I also liked the maids as well very good at their job and very nice to talk to.

The room was always clean and the maids always smiling the facilities were great and the pool was fab and well watched over by the life guard very safe for people with children.

We love the hotel that much were going back there always helpful even at 4am when your just getting in any problem is never too big!! Can't wait to go back!!

We found this hotel to be ok, a bit basic and the food was not great at all, especially with the fact that we had a our 3yr old daughter she never ate a thing apart from crisps and ice lolly's for 2 weeks.

However the staff and entertainment was great and I sometimes hear from Sam by telephone (one of the entertainers)

The waterpark was a good day out and would recommend that, we also went to the animal park which was good.

I probably would not go back to Tunisia as there was not much to do for kids - but all in all we had a super time and came back to Glasgow with a great tan.

The market was very good, and we picked up several bargains.

Hotel was cold and room heating ineffective. Food appalling, overcooked, often cold, badly presented, occasionally unidentifiable and sometimes all four at once. After day 3 we didn't bother with breakfast but stayed in bed to keep warm a little longer.

Stayed at the "Royal" section after we left the Royal Salem which we had paid for but found incredibly below standard.

Royal Jenine is extremely good, staff are very friendly, offered to cook specifically for us if we should want so, smiles all the way.

Staff is very good and very friendly. A certain "go back".

On arrival at 00.15 hours we were greeted pleasantly by the door man and reception, who even offered to exchange money for us to enable us to get refeshments if required. Normally this is done between certain times of the day.We were then shown to our room (the porter carried all our baggage)which was more than spacious with 4 beds (not camp beds either) and clean,we found that the toilet would not flush, the porter then he immediately informed reception, within 5 minutes a plumber arrived and fixed it (you don't get this in the UK. The staff are very friendly and always aim to please their service is excellent especially the room maid who visited daily and changed bedding and towels always ensuring the room was spotles before she left. The entertainment was first class (kids club our children did not attend all the time but there was activities throughout the day. The evening entertainment was varied with visiting local acts again the children were not forgotten at night with there own disco time. The food was very good, it was well presented catered for children, but there are lots of local dishes you have to be prepared to try.(they are delicious and no we didn't get any upset tummies whilst there). You have to remember that these hotels cater for many nationalities at one time, there were Germans, Crotians, Polish, French, Dutch, Algerians plus their own nationality all staying at the same time as us.

on arrival we were allocated a twin room with 2 beds and 2 camp beds(had booked a 4 bedded room )complained and 3 days later eventually got what we originally booked.cleanliness of room could have been better.maids only done the basics.all rooms have carpets and appear to be difficult to keep clean.air conditioning did not work very well.food in the restaurant was poor.it appears that the hotel is geared up to cater for germans (75 % of guests were german or dutch )the food srved in the snack bars is ok and reasonably priced. most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.especially the bar staff and waiters.the team who provided the kids/adult entertainment were absolutely brilliant.these people salvaged the holiday.drink in the hotel is cheap (2.1 dinar per bottle )if any one needs any more info please post on the forum.

The pool is freezing at first but once your in it it's warm.

The hotel is ideally placed for trips into Sousse or Port el Kantoui. The staff were more than helpful, booking taxis, offering advice etc.

The room was cleaned well, everyday. We found the food lovely. My daughter has a stomach problem, when the staff found out, they assured us that if she couldn't find anything to eat they would make her something else.

We had a guided tour of the Royal Jinene, by the manager, before it was opened, it looked fantastic. We made some good friends there, and can't wait to return again this year.
