| said: We booked this holiday back in May of this year based on the fantastic reviews we had read previously. Room really small with minute balcony but that did not concern us too much as we never expect to stay in our room for long when away on holiday. Unfortunately I was ill so needed plenty of rest. However booming music was played from the hotel next day every evening from about 11 pm until 5 am exactly in the morning. Needless to say I was not happy.
Breakfast was fine, and plenty to choose from. As I only like bread and jam in the morning, that suited me. In the evening it was a different matter. The food was always well presented and plenty of choice and it looked really appetizing. The problem was that none of the food was covered and the place was swarming with flies which were squatting on the food leaving their nasty traces. Also there were hundreds of skinny cats roaming around the restaurant, jumping up on the tables and waiting under the tables hoping to grab some titbits. Because of this bad hygiene we could not take advantage of the half board basis which we had paid for and had to go out every evening to eat in a cleaner looking restaurant.
The hotel location was nice situated right on the sea front. I have visited so many parts of Turkey in the past and I must say that Gumbet/Bodrum have got to be the tackiest, roughest and dirtiest resorts out of all of them. It seemed to attract a certain class of person - lower class!
The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I have nothing bad to say about them but in general, in all other restaurants, shops etc we visited, we never went one day without someone trying to "rip us off". Beware, if you see a sign offering cheap beer, dont go for it because it is watered down. If you do decide to try it, make sure you dont have waiter service, go straight to the bar and watch them pour it. By doing this there is no way they can cheat you. A place I did visit was in Gumbet and that was a Reiki healing place next to a hotel. The two men in there were excellent and gave me such good treatment at extremely reasonable prices (I went there on three occasions in one week) and must say that was the definite highlight of my holiday in Gumbet. Unless you don't mind roughing it and you don't mind thousands of flies excreting over your food, being ripped off and sharing a hotel with people of a low working class background, I would say the Mels and Gumbet is the place for you.
I must reiterate that the staff were really friendly and the cleaners kept our bedroom tidy everyday (except for when we left the room on our day of departure, I checked under the bed for things which may have been kicked under there and to my horror found it to be filthy, floor covered in mounds of dust intertwined with pubic hairs!!
No more Mels for us!

| said: We arrived at Mels at about 4 in the morning from the airport, and on arrival, we were greeted at reception and given our room key, and escorted up to the room. The electric is like many, where you put a card into a slot on the wall, but ours didnt work, so the man went and got us one that did.
First impressions were how small the rooms were, just enough room for the 2 beds, hardly any storage space. The bathroom was tiny, and the shower was as stated before a wet room shower, and the whole floor got wet and slippery! One other thing I noticed was that when the lights were turned out, the room wasn't dark, as there is a camp site across the street with floodlights lighting its carpark, and these lights also illuminated our room, though this would only be an issue if you had a room facing this way.
The air conditioning is £3 a day, and works well as the room is only small, though on the last day, ours packed up, and after several visits to the reception, the only thing I got was a "sorry". It was very hot that night! The safety deposit boxes are located in reception at a cost of £5 a week.
The lighting in the room is a joke though. Ladies, you will have trouble putting make-up on, as the rooms and very dimly lit, even with all the lights on.
The swimming pool area was usually quiet, as it's only a small place, and the pool is nice, though very deep. It's 2.1m deep with a small shallow part at one end by the pool bar, and a childrens pool. The sunloungers have a plastic covering, so get very sweaty and burn you when they are hot from the sun. Need to take enough towels to cover all of it!
There is are two free pool tables, though neither are in a state to play on, and a table tennis table.
The bar area is large and is the dining area also.
The food was good, though only one choice each evening, but it is only a 2 star hotel. Overall, I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, just because it is a bit basic for my liking although I knew this when booking.

| said: We were expecting a little shabby hotel with it only being a 2 star, but were amazed to discover it wasn’t.
We both had a fantastic time and the staff are ace, we have come back with all of their e mail addresses and will keep in touch maybe even visit again soon.
The hotel is absolutely spotless and immaculate, rooms are cleaned every day, the beach is combed and pool cleaned nightly.
We stopped on a half board basis the food is buffet style, breakfast consists of scrambled eggs cheese salami tomato and cucumber, and there are also cereals and toast and jam (continental).
But if you fellow Brits fancy a fry up you can get one from the hotel restaurant at a charge. If you have lunch in the hotel there is a menu offering a wide variety including snacks. Evening meal menu is always displayed on the board near the food stands so you can check it out earlier in the day, there is not a lot of choice but take it from I am a faddy eater and was always happy with my meal. There are a couple of hot choices (fish, stew bbq, meatballs) then salads and rice, chips baked potatoes. The menu is different every day, oh and for starter there is soup (which is to die for) and crusty bread. There is only one choice of pudding each night (melon, peaches choc mousse).
The chefs are ace and nothing is too much trouble for them especially head chef with the little red scarf.
T
he hotel location is perfect on the right hand side of the resort, if it was any closer to Bar street the loud music would disturb you at night, the meals is literally a 2 minute walk down the beach from the shopping and pub street.
The beach is the best outside this hotel although it is sand and shingle and there are a few rocks on the way in it is lovely when you pass it.
The restaurant and reception and cleaning staff are all very friendly and you will get to know them fast.
Watch out for Farrier the bar manager he is a laugh but cheeky he buys you a drink at night and then adds it onto your bill next day, pay for every thing as you get it,dont have a tab u might find he has added a few extras.
The entertainment is non existent I am not one for it anyway I'd rather walk into resort and it is virtually on your doorstep calling for you. So that didn’t matter. There is a belly dancer on a Saturday night but she is only on for an hour.
The hotel rooms are small and basic but there is all you need always hot water, it is only a base at night if you want luxury then you shouldn’t be looking at a 2 star hotel.
The hotel is a lot grander than I originally thought and in my books should be classed as a 3 star.
I would not hesitate in going back, most of the other people in the hotel are on their 3rd or fourth visit to the meals.
This is a Thompson’s hotel there is no rep they have a 24 hour service but you will never see a rep while you are there, you receive a welcome pack though.

| said: Had a great time here. With 5 children it was nice to have staff that were so friendly and accomodating.
Rooms were on the small side but were clean and tidy.
As was the entire hotel
Getting the shower to stay a constant temperature was a skill that took some mastering. We failed !!!.
Food was generaly good. Evening meals there were plenty of choices, but breakfast was repetative.
From hotel front to beach took three steps and just one shout one of the staff would take food/drink orders
Overall excellent. For the first time we may well repeat our familly holiday destination and hotel

| said: The Hotels bedrooms are not very big and the balcony is small but they are kept spotlessly clean by the lovely housekeeping staff who go out of their way to help you.
The waiters, chefs and bar staff are also extremley friendly and helpful.
Although the evening meals are buffet style there isn't masses of choice, however if you do not like what is on offer the chef will cook you something else.(I don't know how he cooks the chicken breasts, they are to die for!!)nothing is too much trouble.

| said: mels hotel is basic clean comfortable accomodation in an excellent location in gumbet - right on the beach to the left end of the resort with a great view over gumbet bay.
the rooms are quite small with a very small balcony but are comfortable & brightly decorated. the bathroom has a shower with good water pressure just a bit fiddly to get the water temperature right. theres a hairdryer provided & the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels etc provided.
theres a large open resteraunt, bar & reception area & these were all maintained very well as was the small pool up at the back on a terrace area.there are free sunbeds at the front of the hotel as well as at the pool & enough for everyone. all the staff in the hotel were fantastic very friendly & helpful at all times.
there is a large screen tv in the bar/resteraunt area with uk sky provided or a dvd to watch films. we went on a special offer so half board was included & although we only ate in the hotel once the food was good with a good choice. brekfast was continental style but again was good. the hotel also has a snack/cafe service & all prices were very reasonable as were the prices of drinks.
the location is perfect - a couple of steps to the next nearest bar or walk along the seafront path past many morte bars/resteraunts up to the main drag with bar st,shops & heaps m,ore resteraunts/bars. its also far enough away from bar st so you arent disturbed by the thumping music at night.
we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough if you are looking for good value for money clean comfortable accomodation with fantastic staff.
