Quiet hotel in North Patong. Depending on how fast you walk you can reach Bangla Road in about 20 minutes. In the evening there is a hotel minibus which can be booked to take you there, but it does not bring you back.

We stayed in a Diamond Room, which was very large with both a bath and separate shower and dressing area, robes and slippers are provided as are flip-flops, bottles of water and chocolates each evening.

Pool areas are good in general, but the pool by the sea is very noisy as a busy road is just behind it. All the pools had various types of floating aide provided by the hotel.

My only complaint about this hotel was the breakfast restaurant. I have been to Thailand many times and can honestly say this was the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel there. Although there was lots of choice there was more for eastern customers than westerners, lots of chilli, dim sum, rice, chinese, japanese, korean food, but what cooked western food there was was limited to eggs, bacon, beans, sausages, and - mashed potato, and even then the eggs were not cooked to order, but kept warm until they resembled rubber. Many items were not filled up quickly enough so quite often you would go for something to find there was none left. If there had been a place nearby to eat I would have not eaten in this restaurant. There is an Italian restaurant (don't have a pizza) and several other restaurants which we did not visit, except for the beach restaurant, which was OK for lunch, but only served fish at night.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Patong, but it is only a fifteen minute walk along the beach to Bangla Rd the "centre" of the town. Also the hotel provides a car which will drop you in to town and pick you up, take you to Phuket town across the island if you want as long as you book in advance, and the service is free. Tuk Tuks (local open air taxis)are also easily available, just make sure to establish a price before getting in to a taxi.

The Diamond Cliff is on a hillside so climbs up quite steeply fom the sea to the villas at the very top, luckily the hotel provides chauffeur driven carts to take you to your room or the pool if you are lazy or tired. The hotel itself is beautiful, with fantastic sea views and a very open air feel to it. The reception is open air. Each room opens to outside rather than a hotel corridor, and the one restaurant we ate in opens on to one of the swimming pools. There are three pools; one with a waterfall and pool bar, one by the restaurant and one actually down by the sea. Towels are available at the pool so you don't need to bring yours down with you.

There are loads of activities available to do, everything from Thai Massage classes to cocktail making but nothing is pushed at you.

The staff at the hotel couldn't have been friendlier (as were all Thai people, we thought). Everyone was greeted with cocktails and flower necklaces on arrival and as it was our honeymoon we were given a cake in our bedroom and rose petals were on our bed!

The rooms were a reasonable size, all with air conditioning, balcony and en suite. They were also beautifully furnished. The rooms were cleaned everyday, including clean towels, bathrobes, bathroom products, and two complimentary bottles of water every day!

The only negative comment i would make would be about the hotel restaurents. They are extremely overpriced - in comparison to what is available in Patong itself, and they also lack any atmosphere partly because they are completely empty every night.

I have no idea how this hotel was affected by the Tsunami, I think, because of its location on the hill any damage was probably minimal - fingers crossed!

This hotel is in the form of a number of buildings set in a valley running down to the north end of Patong Beach.
A very busy road is across the entrance and the traffic flows day and night but cannot be heard from inside the complex. Crossing the road can be hairy, but there is a security gauard who gives help if required. (or even if not required)

We had superior accomodation and this was excellent with a hugh double kingsized bed and the room was comfortably furnished in teak. There was a balcony with a view of the gardens and the sea.
The room was cleaned daily to a very good standard with fresh linen and towels and bathrobes.
There were very good tea and coffee making supplies which were kept fully replenished.

There are three swimming pools which were clean and well maintained and also a health spa and medical centre with a nurse in attendance and doctor available if required.

The hotel provides towels for the swimming pool and you are permitted to take them to the beach.

The dining facilities were good a main restaraunt and also a beach restarant and the food very palatable if a little expensive. We found it best to dine mostly in the town where competition keeps the prices down. (Full English breakfast with coffee and bread and butter at 250 Baht for 2 which was about £3.60).
We made some use of room service where quick service and excellent food was a pleasure. Usually too much food but not overly expensive for the what we got.

The hotel lies outside the town and it is a good 2 miles to the shopping centre. However the local Tuk Tuk (taxi) is cheap and freely available so there was no problem.
The beach is 10 minutes down the steep hill but 20 minutes coming back if you see what I mean :-)

The hotel is on a very steep slope and so there are a lot of stairs and steep pavements. It is not really suitable for people with walking disabilites although there is a small bus that plies up and down throughout the day and night to drop you vitually at your door.

The hotel attitude to guests is excellent and it seems that nothing is too much trouble. The porters and waiters did not noticeable hang around for a tip as we have found so frequently when travelling in other countries.

It was my birthday wilst I was there and a little cake was delivered to our room decorated with my name and the date and a packet of candles. Admittedly the name was exactly in the form entered in my passport (ie Mr Surname, Middlename, Firstname), but the thought was there.
Furthermore after we returned home my wife received card on her birthday.

There is internet access available at a small fee which allows access to email etc.

Usual situation arises in respect of the mini bar where the prices are high so buy your own drinks in the town supermarket and take it back to the hotel

There is some in house entertainment but most people prefer to take the hotel bus or a taxi into town for the bars and nightspots which are there in plenty.

We have now been to this hotel twice and have not been disappointed and although it is a little expensive, its 5 stars are well deserved in our opinion
