Not good.
Some years ago the St Joseph was 'reasonable' and well priced but now the price is fairly irrelevant as the hotel is poor and not worth another stay there.
The rooms had insects in them - ants and even fleas (or jumping ants!) and the mattresses were disgraceful.
Food: Very poor and not edible on some days out of a fourteen-day stay. I found ants in my breakfast bread! Complaints yielded no change.
The roof-top has magnificent views and the location is quite good, not far from central Luxor; Luxor Temple etc.
Not the best, by far, but for a cheap and cheerful holiday it's OK-ish, in my opinion.

We have just returned from this hotel and chose it because of the glowing reports we read on holiday-truth.

The hotel was very clean and probably looked very nice in the 70's but is now looking dated. As we were on the 3rd floor it was very noisy. We closed the balcony door and curtain but the traffic noise still came through the air con vent.

Make sure you close the bathroom door as you can hear the disco in the basement through the bathroom fan vent.

I've read that the staff were very friendly but I can't agree. We would say "good evening" to the guys on reception but they didn't reply or even look up. I even tried "good evening" in Arabic, but still no luck.

The guy who cleaned the room was a little better especially later in the week when it got closer to checkout (tip day)

As for the food, we only ate breakfast.
If your idea of a good breakfast is mashed potato then you will love it. Every day it was the same mash, sliced sausage, sweetcorn (I kid you not).

Every day the amount of mash and sweetcorn got less so it was obvious the food was being reheated and brought out for us each morning.

Next year we are going back to the 5* Sonesta.

First time at the St Joseph and Egypt. We were plesantly surprised, Hotel is kept very clean and beds are changed every day and rooms are cleaned likewise.

Food at the Hotel is of a very good standard and the staff are very friendly. Air Con units in the bedrooms are a bit outdated and a bit hit and miss as to whether they actually work property what with buttons missing etc.

We had room 503 which is one of many on the front of the Hotel over looking the Nile, but be ware it appears that part of the Egyptian driving test is to be able to sound your horn at every oppurtunity so take your ear plugs.

Hotel bar excellent as are prices.

We have stayed at three of the five star hotels in Luxor (The Meridan, The Pyramis Isis and the Sonesta St George).

We have also cruised the Nile three times. We agreed that this was our last time in Luxor and it was time to move on. That is until we stayed at the St Joseph 3* hotel.

We had only been there three days when we were talking about our next holiday in Luxor. Our room 503 overlooked the Nile, the valley of the kings and Hatputshet's temple. the staff were friendly and could not do enough for you. They love to share a joke and laugh with you.

The hotel is large enough to have all the facilities and small enough to be friendly both from guest and staff. The Satuday night entertainment is designed for everyone to get together and have a great laugh.

People on this site say that rooms are basic but spotless they have everything you need and towels and sheets are changed everyday. So you do not get shampoo, shower cap and body lotion the 5* hotels provide but who needs these.

The price more than covers a couple of gallons of these extras. The food in the resturaunt is second to none that we found in Luxor and very cheap.

The hotel is family owned and one of the brothers made himself known to us and shared a drink with us. the rooftop bar and resturaunt overlooks the nile the swimming pool is also on the roof.

I cannot knock this hotel in any way shape or form.

I think that we had the best room by far (601) which was on the top floor and on the end, the view was fantastic looking over the nile to the valley of the kings and hatshepsut temple, our view made the holiday even better, when we arrived we went straight to the balcony and i stayed there for 20 mins just taking it all in. Staff were good and rooms were clean with a nice rooftop bar. They have good deals on meals but after the 1st night we were more adventurous and ate out which was twice as cheap even though it was cheap in the hotel.

We stayed over Christmas and had a great time. The hotel is cheap and cheerful but the service from the staff and management is first class.

The food is very nice and cheap (if you buy the vouchers for the restaurant) The roof top bar and restaurant if fantastic value.

Highly recommended for a place to stay and use the hotel as a base to see the sights.

Our 2nd trip to St Josephs in 3 yrs.
Fantastic hotel - not posh but comfy & clean & the staff all fantastic - can not do enough for you.

St Jos has a fab rooftop terrace where you can spend the day or a few hrs looking at fantastic views over the nile to hatshepsuts temple & the valleys.

Good coice of snacks at reasonable prices & we once again sat up there in the sun drinking a few stellas.
Has a small heated pool & some sunbeds.

Rooms basic but comfy & cleaned every day to a high standard.

We were b&b & brekfast is simple but more than enough, we didn't have any other meals in the hotel as we preferred to go out to different eating spots but heard from other guests the food was good.

We didn't go to any of the entertainment nights so can't comment on them.

Was lovely to spend another (unexpected - got a very last gasp cheapie here) 2 weeks at St Josephs & would recommend it if you want a friendly well run clean comfortable hotel in a good location in Luxor.

Very nice hotel with friendly family atmosphere. Very helpful staff from the cleaners to the management. Excellent rooftop bar and pool area, bar open all day until midnight.

Excellent views of Nile and West Bank, from room balconies and Roof. Accommodation basic, but enormous comfy bed and fridge and air con included.

Very clean and sheets and towels changed very regularly. Limited night time entertainment, but well patronised Egpytian evening Sat nights. Food fine, nice to eat on the roof in the balmy breeze after a very hot day!!!

We shall def return.

This is our 7th time to this fantastic hotel, once again never failed to impress in any way whatsoever!

The hotel may be a bit dated, but it’s the cleanest hotel I've ever been to!

The staff are great, they treat you really well, and nothing is too much trouble for them.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, right on the Nile with outstanding views.

We love this hotel, and have already booked for our next 2 holidays here!

Definitely a 5 star hotel!!

When we booked we asked for a balcony view, on arrivalwe got room 102 which did not have one, on asking at reception about the mistake we where moved within 5 minutes of asking to room 401.

The veiws of the Nile where astounding, and you could see all the across the Nile to Queen Hatchepsups Temple, and also the veiws from the roof top pool where fantastic as well. The hotel was by far kept clean and tidy to a very high standard, the food was great but choice can be limited.

The hotel location to us was great, not to far from most places but the taxis or the kalesh drivers where very cheap anyway. The hotel staff where marvelous they could not do enough for you, the only entertainment is an Egyption night on Saturdays, which was quite good.

Our overall opinion of our stay in the St Joseph Hotel would be to rate it up from its 3-star to 4-star, because all the staff from the owner to the cleaners made our stay memorable

We arrived in the early hours of the morning and the staff were very pleasant, inviting and helpful in every way. Our bags were unloaded and taken up to our rooms while we checked in.

Rooms were of a good size and spotless! Every room has a view of the Nile which is spectacular. Food is so cheap and such a variety which also takes great. And the view from the roof top bar and swimming pool is amazing.

St Josephs hotel Luxor I recommend a visit we arrived in January with no hotel booked, we have in the past used the hotels facilities. But not stayed there. Our taxi pulled up outside and the reception staff recognized us immediately they went out of their way to make room for us.

The rooms were basic but spotlessly clean.

Staff very polite.

The rooftop pool is great has a fantastic view of the Nile plus it is heated this is a great hotel for budget travel.

Just got back from a week at the St Joseph Hotel in Luxor & we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Firstly, the hotel:

A little old but otherwise good.

The staff are extremely friendly & hugely attentive. Quite literally, you will be treated as a precious commodity. When we first arrived, our bags were taken from us from the bus & taken up to our room while we checked in. A Safety Deposit box was purchased for the exorbitant sum of £1 for the week from the friendly reception staff! The lobby when you arrive looks pretty basic, but the rooms are a good standard & kept very clean. We were greeted on our return during the day by towels & bed sheets etc being sculpted into origami-style characters including a swan and baby.

The roof bar has a nice swimming pool the pool was pristinely clean & very inviting. They serve a wide range of drinks up there & although they call the food 'snacks', a fillet steak of the highest quality for just over £3 deserves a better description than 'snack'!

Downstairs there is a gift shop & jewellery store, the latter offering great items at excellent prices.

Breakfasts were OK, but the A La Carte restaurant was great value in the evenings. We bought a voucher (£20) for 6 meals during our stay and this was really good value.

The downstairs bar is open an hour later than the roof bar & plays some good music, but it closes at 1am, so if you want a later night, find a bar elsewhere that will be happy to take your money - you shouldn't find that difficult, if you spend, the local ones tend to stay open.

By the way, if you like to watch the sun set over the Nile with a cool cocktail in your hand, this is the place to go!

What a gem of an hotel. The staff are wonderfull, especially George the waiter in the roof top bar who constantly smiles. Food and service were excellent. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the centre of things but worth it. No entertainment except two bars. We would definately go back to this hotel again.

St Jo's is an excellent Hotel.

The staff are very attentive and very friendly.

The rooms are very clean, and some days you go back to your room and they have made your towels into an animal e.g. snake, swan etc - The kids really loved this.

The restaurant has great food and service. Even for those that don't experiment with the local dishes, there is something for everyone.

The roof has the pool - great - around 1 pm everyday a breeze came off the Nile and it was very welcome.

The food served on the roof was wonderful, they do a mean cheese omelletts at lunchtime, and in the evening try the banana chicken delicious.

You can watch the sunrise and set from the roof top and you can watch the world go by while you sit and relax by the pool. The pool was immaculately kept it was cleaned properly everyday.

Entertainment - well the disco in the basement is small, but if you fancy trying out your belly dancing this is it.
Once a week they have an Egyptian night, which is good value, be prepared to join in.

We were only at St Jo's for a week, and I must admit to not wanting to leave, I was also very touched when quite a few of the staff, came out and waved us off when we left.

If you are looking for luxury go elsewhere - If you are looking for value for money in a clean safe environment, where you will be treated like a VIP all the time then St Jo's is the place to go.

I absolutely loved my stay in Luxor’s St Josephs!

The staff were very friendly and supportive, they attended to my family's every need!

The hotel was clean and tidy, well, when we weren’t in our rooms, so pretty much all the time!

We had plenty to do, we were never bored!

It had the most gorgeous view from the roof-top!

The pool was lovely (especially at night).

The food was lovely, a kind of Egyptian feel to British delicacies!

The facilities were great, the shop downstairs was perfect for souvenirs and gifts!

The entertainment was lovely, the Egyptian night was especially good! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and feel that it is a must-go for families! "Cheap and cheerful" doesn’t even cut it! "Cheap and life-changing" was the holiday I went on!

St josephs hotel in luxor is basic clean comfortable accomodation in a good location in luxor.
Rooms were a good size with a small balcony with fantasic views over the nile. The bathroom was also a good size with shower. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels etc. there was aircon included (bit rattly) & you could get a mini fridge if required for an extra fee(we didnt bother).

The hotel has a small reception area with shops attatched (good value jewellery shop) the best bit about st jos was the rooftop terrace with fantastic views over the nile & to valley of the kings.
It has a small clean pool & some sunbeds (always enough) & loads of tables with a cafe/bar. The staff up there were brilliant very friendly & helpful & service excellent. In fact all the hotel staff were brilliant & couldnt do enough for you at all times.

Breakfast was buffet style & although not to my taste there was always loads of fresh bread rolls to fill up on & staff again v good.
We didnt eat in the resteraunt for a night meal but heard good reports from other guests.
The rooftop cafe had all sorts of meals & snacks at very reasonable prices.
As we didnt eat in the restraunt at night i cant really comment on entertainment as we didnt see any of it.

The hotel is in a good location only a short walk away to other resteraunts,a couple of bars & perfect for exploring luxor temple & all the other fantastic sights of luxor.

We cant recommend this place highly enough as value for money (we got a vvv cheap deal for 14 nights) if you want to go posh you can always spend your nights at some of the five star hotels nearby but st jos was very comfortable, had all we needed & the staff fantastic.
