We were moved to the Pirat after a rather nasty incident at another hotel within the resort of kalkan(see resort review).

The Pirat was far better in terms of size of rooms and above all cleanliness, staff were most polite and pools were fantastic with lovely views.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks when we first arrived at 2am in the morning we were put in a room that was 111 steps up to our room which was really unacceptable, as we asked for a first floor room as my husband has arthritis and angina, we stayed there the first night because we were so tired and we just could not walk back down again.

In the morning we went to see the Rep from Yesil Dalyan who said she was just there for trips etc there was nothing she could do so we spoke to the staff on reception who did finally move us but at a cost to us of £70.

There is also a ridiculous rule that no food or drink are allowed in your room unless brought from the hotel if you are found taking anything in you are arrested by the security staff which we did see happen.

Also although the hotel is in a good area it can be qute noisy at night as some of the bars play really loud music and fireworks go off most nights sometimes 1pm in the morning.

The rooms do need updating as they are quite shabby.

I must say as a plus that the Manager and all the staff are all very nice and helpful.

Have just returned from the Pirat, excellent location by the harbourside, hotel room cleaned each day and to a reasonable standard, clean bedding and towels provided regularly.

Hotel however extremely basic, the larger of the two swimming pools and area surrounding could have been better maintained. 84 steps to our room, no lifts at all. Not a good coice at breakfast no fruit whatsoever, coffee from a Nescafe machine. Food not kept chilled but left open in a non air conditioned dining area.

Thomas Cook should consider their "star rating" as this is more like a two star hotel not three. Will not return to this hotel however loved the resort. Ridiculous rule regarding own drink and food being brought in, please note this also includes Water!!

The Pirat is split into two buildings right on the harbour front. The original has the reception area and the newer(and bigger)is on the opposite side of the road.

There are two pools and a kiddies pool. The area around the pools could be washed more often as we noticed our sun lounger towels got very dirty.

The rooms are of average size and are showing some signs of wear, but are serviced daily with clean linen every other day and towels each day. Plenty of hot water etc.

Breakfast is fairly typical of a hotel servicing British, German and Scandinavian guests, however there is no bacon or sausage available and the food is sadly left uncovered whilst buffet is in progress.

Staff as usual in Turkey are friendly, except for one security guard who takes his resposibilities too much to heart, regarding the import of food and drinks (inc.water)to the rooms.

The usual Turkish night with barbecue looked fair value although we did not attend,(again uncovered food) ditto the belly dancer another night, that was the total entertainment.

Bar prices for beer and snacks were reasonable.

In general the hotel is fine, with the higher rooms having spectacular views across the harbour, BUT, there are a lot of steps (the original building has a lift). We had a room on the top floor which had 128 steps to it!.

If we were to visit Kalkan again we would look for a hotel at the top of the town in preference to the Pirat, as apart from the harbour front restaurants, a walk up steps or steep hills are needed to get to other restaurants etc

Location of this hotel is superb - right on the harbour. despite this, there is no noise but a sea view room is absolutely essential - you may be disappointed with room looking back to the town.
Cleanliness is good with towels changed every day and bed linen evry coupkle of days. The fabric of the hotel is sound but not outstanding. Staff are generally happy and welcoming but do not attempt to take any food into your room as you are liable to be stopped by uniformed staff and escorted to reception for them to ask you to resist.
Entertainment is non existent inside the hotel except for the inevitable Turkish Night.
Breakfast is what you would expect but repititious after just a week, but generally OK.
Signs around pool area "No Diving" universally ignored.
