| said: The food was awful, promised a warm and cold buffet for breakfast and you only get the cold. The evening meal was as bad, the warm food, sometimes not cooked, cold and no choice.
The hotel was fairly clean but day before last day had had towels for 3 days and they had stripped most of the bedding off irregardless of us still being there.
No entertainment and the bar did not open until 9.30, then shut at 12.00.
The apartments have security issues, when we were there which was only for 1 week there were 18 break-ins. They seem to target people who are going home.
We only had hot water twice in a week.
This is the worst complex I have ever stayed in, so don't.

Also hear very clearly the neighbours! All the apartments on this side of the complex have been sold off so now private.
Arrived on Sunday no clean towels or sheets till Thurs!
Never ate at the complex too many nice places on the front, very steep hill though. Entertainment in basement which does not appeal sounded Spanish lots of Spanish guests there during our stay.
Pool areas clean but not many sunbeds esp if complex fully occupied.

| said: We stayed in the quieter area across the road from the main entrance. Lots of steps to our apartment which was the furthest room 257. Did have a sea view and north facing so very pleasant to sit on the balcony in the early evening. Apartment spacious, clean and sufficient for our needs. Only complaints were the beds creaked if you made the slightest movement, the shower wasnt very powerful, the fridge seemed to freeze anything we put in it and the outside light didn't work.
We liked both poolsides, the main complex had Parasols but the pool near our apartment did not so when it became too hot, you either jumped into the deep pool to cool down or fried. We used the poolside bar only twice as often there was no one there to serve or it was shut, (though there was not many people around the pool while we were there anyway). We had the pool to ourselves one day.
Breakfast was OK, various cold meats, cheese, boiled egg, plus croissants, toast, small cakes and pastries, melon and cereals, all help your self and plentiful.
There were mainly Spanish visitors and the entertainment was provided by 2 male singers who played a variety of Spanish, salsa style songs. We went to watch the last half hour 10:30 pm and thought they were very good. 11:00 pm prompt the group finished, the bar closed and everyone left.
The hill was very steep and there was lots of steps and uneven cracked slippy pavements. I hurt my ankle while walking down so you have to be careful. Wouldn't like to walk down in the middle of summer.
I probably would not revisit this hotel, only because of where it was situated. If your looking for a base from which to explore the area and on a room only basis then its ideal. You get what you pay for and we got a good deal booking 1 month before we went.

| said: We arrived at the Bitacora under unsusual circumstances as the tour operator had not advised of a flight change so we were provided with an alternative holiday.
It's definately a 2 star accomodation - apartments are spacious although you can hear the movements of your neighbours quite clearly - you don't want to be staying below people there for the partying!
There are comprehensive facilities in the rooms - toaster, kettle, stove, pots & pans, fridge however the TV was broken and only tuned to True Movies for half a day and Eurosport permanently. Not what you need with a 7 year old.
For the first 3 days there was a piercing buzzing noise - a bit like when your radiator needs bleeding which started at 03:15 and finished around 11:00. By the 3rd night we could tune it out and got some sleep. When you complained about it, we were offered another room but by this point we were fully unpacked and could not guarantee the noise in another apartment.
On a good day the food was OK - a fairly safe salad options but the hot food was hit and miss - the best days were when they put on a BBQ. You are not advised of the menu at any point - even when eating it. Not the best when there's a person with allergies in the party and we are not fluent in Spanish. If you have food allergies, I'd suggest highlighting this to your Rep and ensure they put something in place, OR go self catering and eat in the many lovely restaurants around the front.
The hotel is up a steep hill so not great if you've got mobility difficulties but brilliant exercise every day for everyone else. The hotel itself has ramps everywhere so could be suitable for a wheelchair but the flooring is a bit slippy at the best of times - ceramic tiles or calcium painted concrete.
The cleaners are polite and friendly and the staff on the front desk speak English and German as well as Spanish. But you may find yourself stood for a while in reception or in the shop whilst the staff have a chat - there certainly isn't an air of respect for your patronage.
Entertainment is limited to the pools, pool table or pool side bar - there is a bar under the hotel on an evening but this was poorly lit and quite claustrophobic. The pools are either tiny kids pools or deep swimming pools - in the deep pools, the lowest dept is 1.6 meters.
We won't be going back there.

| said: This is the 5th year to Lanzerote and the Bitacora Club Appts. We go Feb/March time each year for room only and cannot fault the overall appearance of the Bitacora. Cleaners visit at least every other day and change sheets/towels if requested but otherwise only twice a week. Only front of house staff speak english so dont expect a conversation with the domestic staff. People seem to rave about cockroaches, I cannot recall ever seeing any... We have not experienced the hotel food other than the poolside bar which can only be described as basic but perfectly edible. The hotel is located at the top of "Heart Attack Hill" a good form of daily exercise and excellent giggle factor to negotiate when drunk! That aside, it is only a 10min walk to the sea front with plenty of shops/grocers enroute at relitively affordable prices. The hotel staff are abrupt but people need to remember that they are in a different country where things are done "differently" Your complaints are delt with as requested. Agin people need to remember that they are going to a foreign country where the tempreture is significantly warmer than here in Blighty, dont expect much and you wont be dissapointed. The hotel entertainment can be limited but we were there for the night life not the hotel. Yes I would be going back to the Bitacora, its an excellent base to work from.

Did experience a slight problem when we arrived at reception .. We booked Flights and The accommodation with different operators.
Hotel needed a Accommodation voucher rather than just a booking ref - so if any one is travelling remember this. Lovely quiet area with a little steep hill down to the front .. 2 euros in taxi back no problems!
Apartments well catered . toaster, kettle which you dont always find in other apts in Pto del carmen do visit lanzarote very often.
Even TV which is NOT Coin operated and plenty of cutlery etc. bedrooms nice beds comfy, can get chilly in evening so ask for blankets. Maid service wasnt great arrived thurs cleaned Sunday could be more frequent but only there for 4 nights!
Carnival out of this world so make sure you dont miss it every Feb! Pool areas fine !
Overall Great Holiday would return to the Bitacora !

| said: Well wasn't sure what to expect following the mixed reviews. This is our view of Bitacora.
The apartments arent bad, a little dated but 2stars rated. These were cleaned every other day with fresh towels, but bedding only twice weekly.
The food is ok (half board) but is what I would expect for 2star. My youngest not eating much other than bread, chips and fruit. But plenty of food. You do pay for your drinks with your evening meals. Note, they will serve you after serving the Spanish. Its also a very small restaurant.
The pools are very cloudy and would not pass as a usable public pool in the uk. You can not see anything below 1 meter deep. This is very dangerous. The southern pool ladder is not securely fixed and has sharp exposed metal to the underside of the step treads as my son sliced his thumb, blood everywhere. I will also say that the skimmer boxes are not effective with low water lines, I know this, because I have designed several outdoor swimming pools in the uk for public use. These also do not skim surface debris and often the pool is full of dead bugs etc. I am refering to the main pool in the main complex and not the one across the road.
The staff are not helpful and infact not customer focussed. To explain they feel you should be privileged to be served by them. It's a joke.
The onsite supermarket is a classic. The young spanish girl is shocking in her attitude, she will keep you waiting at the till whilst she speaks with her boyfriend on the phone. She doesn't like her job and definitely can not stand the English. I felt like filling me basket and unloading it on the till and just walking out. But my son was desparate for a drink. Pig ignorant.
I can only say that the cleaners are the hard workers here. I forgot to mention also that you should be prepared to listen to Spanish horse racing whilst sat around the pool, not music. The bar tender loves it. Some other staff would play music but its the same ministry of sound cd over and over.
The appartments are located central but set up the hill, and its a killer. You will be fed up with this after the 3rd day.
The real downside of our holiday was my eldest son became ill with a severe upset stomach. Big diarrohea that lasted 5days and I can say it was a nasty bug that could have only been picked up from the hotel by food or the pool. To add to his agony, he also cut his foot of piece of glass when leaving our apartment. Obviously someone dropped a glass and it wasn't cleaned up.
Our last day was amussing with one of the restaurant maids turning up for work in her previous nights cloths, she had clearly just got back from the clubs and had a right attitude with customers. Dressed in her short skirt and high heels. The spanish staff seemed to group together and had been harrassing young english teenagers, they are a load of bullies and wouldn't dream of doing to any adults.
The worst bit of all. NO AIR CON. I can say that we stayed in 239 it's east, south, west facing and located on the upper floor, the heat gains are massive, giving lots of night time, radiant heat.
We were offered a fan at 15 euros a week and it still was bad. I recall seeing several customers on the balcony in the early hours, you cannot sleep, its bad and totally ruined our stay. We asked to hire air coolers, these are provided by an outsde company - however non available. With day time temps hitting as high as 42deg. The night times seemed worst than day, due to the radiant heat being given off. You wont sleep very well here, if you are located on a upper floor, especially south facing. Fans help, but you just push the same air around the room. My children really suffered with this and the mornings were a gasp for drinking plenty of water after a nights dehydration in the sauna!!!
Don't expect any entertainment.
To summarise. Its ok here, but just, don't pay a lot for the privilege. I wouldn't pay no more than £1000 for August and I did pay 50%more than that. I have had cheaper and better holidays elsewhere. Its is the worst holiday we have ever had and will not be returning.

| said: We stayed in the Bitacora appartments in May 2006.
We arrived at twelve noon and were not given a room until half pas three. The room was very spacious but only had two single beds.
We had a patio door on our apartment and the lock did not seem very secure and could easily have been pulled open even while locked.
Our rooms were cleaned every second day and fresh towels were only given on these days.
We did not eat from the restaurant in the hotel as we ate out but we heard the food was not the best.
The location was not the worst although we found it very tiring walking back up the steep hill. The road slabs were not very secure and I tripped on several occasions. Would not recommend it for an elderly couple or people with disabilities.
Hotel bar and reception staff were occasionally friendly.
I saw no entertainment whilst there. We came back one night at half ten for some music and were disappointed to discover it was non existent.
I am not sure if we would visit again as we felt a little uneasy sleeping as the door was not secure. We also heard noises throughout the night and are unsure as to what they were. although we could have found worse.

| said: We arrived quite happy with what we had got for our money if it had been the price in the brochure I would of been very disappointed.
The location wasnt bad as what we thought in the end as we could go many ways to get to the centre depending on which part on the town you wanted to get too. Would not recommend for walking difficulties/elderly.
Cleanliness of the rooms were very good but we never saw the pool or the surroundings being kept clean ie: pool area, not forgetting to mention the funny smell as we walked back to our apartment.
The staff I thought were really unfriendly and most of the time came across with an attitude or wouldnt be that helpful if we had asked for help.
I wouldn't recommend staying half board, not much choice of food, breakfast the same everyday and if when you eat in the evening, there was always fish and salad every night, there was 1 other dish mainly meat or pasta. Not much variety.
Entertainment I never saw any apart from 1 disco I think.
I would consider staying here again self catering if it was a cheap holiday but other than that I would probabaly stay else where in the resort which was bit more central.

The location is quite good between old and new town, but does have a steep hill to climb, but really isnt' that bad!
Not much contact with the staff, but seemed ok except the receptionist, he seemed as if he couldn't be bothered with anything!
No entertainment at all, so think they have stopped doing that.
We are returning again in January 07. Overall a good base at a reasonable price.

| said: Stayed at the Bitacora apartments in July 2005. The complex is split in two with a quiet road running through the middle. One side is the main half with reception, main pool, and bar, and the other side is the quiter side with one small pool and apartments.
We stayed on the quieter side and much preferred this, it was not very busy considering it was the middle of july, and so me and my 2 friends had the smaller pool almost to ourselves which was great.
The layout is good on the quiter side, you do not have anyone overlooking you, it is much more private. Our apartment had a nice little terrace bit which was great to sit out in the day when it was too hot to sunbathe (it gets really hot in the daytime and both pools have little shade), and great for eating out at night.
Reception staff were fine, didnt have much to do with them but they were very friendly and spoke perfect english.
Not much entertainment if any at all here, but the pool bar does great cocktails and good snacks!
The location of these apartments is good as it is almost in the middle between the old town (which i liked best) and the new town. It feels like quite a long walk to both end of town, but is a nice walk as the roads were paved well and cater well for pedestrians.
Apartment was cleaned regularly and maids were friendly enough. There were 3 girls sharing this apartment, all with big suitcases full of clothes, but it was spacious enough.
I would definitely recommend these apartments, although they may not suit elderly/disabled as there are stairs to the apartments, and the walk into either side of town can be quite exercising!

Complex staff were most helpful and polite, apts were spotless and were cleaned on a regular basis, although the entertainment was not as good as it should have been I suspect most people would be going out at night and enjoying entertainment in the resort.
My only complaint was maybe the pool could have been cleaner?.
We enjoyed the holiday so much we have booked to return to Bitacora in July 2006. Cant wait(happy customer )

| said: Ideal for a family of 2 adults and 1 child as rooms only cater for 3 people. The appartments were very clean on arrival and the cleaning staff very pleasant. However, bar staff and especially reception staff were not very friendly or helpful.
These appartments also lack security and during the two weeks stay several appartments were broken into including our own whilst we slept and upon reporting to staff they seemed very disinterested and not at all helpful.
The location of the hotel is at the top of a very steep hill (Known as cardiac hill) therefore not good accomodation for the elderly or anyone with health problems althout taxi to and from town cost 2.50 euros. Overall the accomodation was one of the best in the resort although it did lack entertainment and staff could do with a stint in customer care training, I would visit this appartment again in the future but only on the proviso that security, staff and entertainement were upgraded.

The location is 10 mins to new town and 20 mins to the old town which includes the uphill return trek. Taxis in the resort are dirt cheap so this is not a problem.
Did not have much contact with staff but they did not come over as friendly as most Spanish hotel/apartment staff.
We travelled as a couple so we did not see the entertainment which seemed more geared towards families.
Overall I would return to this hotel but have stayed in other accommodation in the resort which is better situated.

The cleaning staff were very nice and came most days!
The hotel staff were pleasant.
The location for us was lovely because we hired a car we had easy access to get onto the main roads. It was very quiet and the views of the surrounding mountains were an added bonus!
The pool which we used was lovely, there are 3 all together.
The bar was not that well staffed.
The only down thing really was the entertainment, it was almost non existent.

An entertainment programme is much needed as the teenagers got bored of an evening and even the pool tables were out of action.
The swimming pools were a surprise too - no shallow end in the main pools. My parents wouldn't go in the pools as they like to feel their feet beneath them but even by the steps, they'd have had to stand on tip toes. The worst thing was the lack of shade! No parasols at all around the pool! How can an hotel complex not supply shade in that heat!
We found the hill not too bad at all - good exercise!

We ate out every night so didnt try the onsite restaraunt. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a hill to climb up coming back from the strip but would hardly call it steep. anyway the walk did us all no harm at all. For those not keen on walking taxis are very cheap 2euros approx. Overall we have no complaints and will go back again.

We did'nt enjoy much of the food at the on site restraunt so found ourselves having to go into the town to eat.
The hotel is a very quiet one and would benefit greatly from an entertainments programme as the children/teenagers got bored very quickly.
In the brochere they tell you that the hotel is situated at the top of a hill, what they dont tell you is how STEEP the hill is, but at least your working off all the over indulgencies...
We were dreading the holiday because of the reports we had read, but can honestly say the appartments were clean and tidy as were the pool and the communial areas, so we were quite releaved.
On the whole we enjoyed our holiday as it was only a short break but i would'nt recommend this hotel if it
was your main holiday of the year.

It was very clean, tidy and spacious for two people. The balcony caught the sun from 11am-8pm and was very hot!.
Be warned however. My partner and I were in bed when the main door to the apartment was opened and some rattling heard.
I went to reception to report this and they explained that the TV money was collected from the room and that the person doing it should have knocked but didn't. An easy mistake...............?
I would go back, but the hill is a killer. Try climbing it after a few beers and a meal at the sea front!!!
Nice staff, pool clean, bar a little basic and the entertainment was terrible, but who is going to sit in every single night?!!
Go there for cheap, and cheerful holiday.
