Sofias grandma and father are fantastic cooks and sofia is as well, victor is also fantastic and we got on with him really well.
I love this holiday destination, and would recomend it to anyone, I can't wait to go back and see all the many friends were have made there over time.

| said: We have just returned from a fantastic two week holiday at the Sophia Beach Apartments in Platanias! We only booked two weeks before we went and so, naturally, we were a little wary of how they would be. No worries at all. The apartments are large and situated on a lovely, leafy "avenue" leading up to the pool and bar. In the brochure, it states that the pool is shared and we were concerned that it might get overcrowded, but it never did. The beach is literally 20 steps away from the pool - you couldn't ask for anything better. Now the boring stuff is out of the way, let us tell you what (or more to the point, who) really made the holiday. The wonderful Greek family who own and run the aprtments and pool bar, dad Theo, grandma Sohpia and last, but NOT least, daughter Sophia ( she thinks she is Greek but is actually Albanian!!- or so we kept telling her. Right from the minute we arrived, Sophia gave everyone a warm friendly welcome and as she has an excellent command of the english language, we had a very interesting introduction to the area and facilties. Later in the evening, when we went for our evening meal there (don't be fooled by the words "pool/beach bar")we were treated to outstanding cooking, courtesy of Theo, a very modest man who could match any celebrity chef! Every day virtually, we were given "tasters" of traditional Greek food and loved everything - we even had stuffed flowers one night! If you are not the adventurous type when it comes to food, Theo is more than happy to make nuggests and chips, chicken etc. However, I would urge everyone who goes there to give his food a try (Sophia also dabbles in the kitchen and is equally as good)and if you do, you will not only be surprised at the quality but Theo will encourage you to try more as he adores cooking. We, as a family, are not fussy eaters when it comes to things like spices etc, and can honestly say that nothing we were given was too "foreign" and therefore suitable for all. We only ate out twice in the fortnight and didn't enjoy either experience and vowed to eat only at Sophia's as the quality cannot be matched NEITHER can the prices - far cheaper than in the town.
Grandma Sophia is a true lady, although she does not speak English, her warm smile conveyed the message that she was glad to see you - we communicated through hugs and smiles and really took her into our hearts.
On our last night, my husband instigated a water fight between himself, Sophia and two lovely friends we met there, Jean and Cliff. However, in the excitement, Grandma Sophia got drenched - luckily she took it all in good fun and laughed it off - not many 77 year olds would have done though.
The general staff at the apartments are also very polite and welcoming, especially mad Viktor, who REALLY IS Albanian and doesn't speak much English, but is always mad as a hatter and up for a laugh. The cleaners come in every day apart from Sunday and our cleaner Roxanne did an excellent job of cleaning the apartment and always left the towels in a fancy pattern on the beds!
The apartments are literally a 4 minute walk to the main strip where there is an array of tourist souvenir type shops and plenty of restaurants and bars.
A bus trip in Chania (pronounced Hania) is only 1.6 euros and takes 20 minutes approx and there you can get high street fashions, bags, shoes etc. Be warned however, try to go to Chania after 4 in the afternoon as the heat really stifles you around the harbour - where most of the restaurants and bars are - as the white flags on the floor reflect the heat and there is little shade.
We are going back to Sophia Beach Aprtments next year as we couldn't have asked for nicer hosts that Theo, Sophia and Grandma Sophia.
The lady on reception is called Pat and aparently she is a guest that just won't go home!! Bob kept asking everypne who she was, but no one knew!!
Thanks to all, Amanda, Bob & Kimberli Smith

All the staff were really friendly especially Sofia and Victor!!!
Everything was very clean inside and outside the apartment.

| said: Went with friend and friends mum to these apartments. Good for all ages, good family place and a good to relax for young people! If your looking for a holiday that has a great nightlife for young people then this is possibly not the best place to go.
There are three main clubs in this resort for young people that are very good but can cost up to 10euros for entry.
These apartments are truelly fantastic they are a minute walk to the pool and a two minute walk to the beach and beach bar although the sun loungers are 4 euros each.
The resort itself is very laid back and relaxed and staff in the apartments themselves are very helpful and polite! Victor is a legend too! While we were there are apartment flooded which was neither our or the apartment owners fault just the lazy people before who didn't put the toilet paper in the bin. However, this was dealt with and cleared up before we got back to our apartment which we were very grateful for.
Apartments are clean and spacious, very nice indeed.
Overall had an excellent holiday and an excellent time there would definately go back!

| said: We have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Sofia Beach apaprtments. It was my first time abroad and I could not have wished for a better place to go.
The staff were faultless, and victor worked so hard making sure that even if we had a day on the beach we were still attended to.
The cleanliness of the apartment was excellent and the food cooked at the pool bar was out of this world, we are missing it already.
We were just disappointed when it was time to go home.
Thank you all for a fantastic holiday.

| said: We stayed in two studios.
We requested to be on the top floor but this wasn't available as we found out the studios were on the bottom floor and apartments on the top floor. Being on the ground floor meant we had a 'patio' which was more like a step directly on the path/road that was very busy and could get very noisy at night.
The studios themselves were different from each other. one had a shower curtain, the other didn't. One had a breakfast bar, the other didn't. the decor in each was very different. Basically, it's really pot-luck which one you get. None-the-less they were adequate.
The poolside snack bar was where you could always find the staff. This definitely was just a snack bar/light lunch place and not an extensive restaurant. The staff were brilliant and we found Stella particularly pleasant.
Entertainment at the hotel is non existent but the next door hotel (which for some reason shared the same pool as ours!!) had a clown once a week that was actually very funny and talented, great for kids and adults.
The hotel location was pretty good - directly on a sandy wide beach. parasols on the beach added up to quite alot of ££ over the course of the holiday though. Restaurants were very close and beach and souvenir shops. Crazy golfs seemed to be very popular too with a number of them dotted around.
Although the staff were very nice I dont think this would be enough for me to visit the studios again.
In the Sunstart brochure it said this was a B rating, however we later found out it was a C rating - there is a big difference.

| said: Just returned from a wonderful holiday at the Sophia beach, these apartments are located in a good position for the local bars and tavernas and right on the beach.
As for the staff you will have to go a long way to find better hosts then Sophia, Stella and Sophias dad who was always generous with the raki, and for the cooking Sophia,s grandma is actually quite brilliant all original homemade Greek cooking(not to be missed the stifado).
We will be returning in the future, but for any one going soon you will have a great time. Cleanliness and the all round presentation is first class.

the location was spot on as we had a disabled pensioner with us everything we needed was within a five minute walk.
The bar food was very very good I know as Theo Sophias dad gave me a taste of all the greek dishes he made.
Aso plenty of home made Raki to be drunk free.
The bar didn't have any enterainment on but there was plenty going at the bar next door.
Parents beware there are no pool markings.
Have been home for 2 days and have just booked to go back for two weeksn in Aug 2007. Can't wait to go back!

Sofia and her father are always on hand to help if there is ever any problems, very friendly and curtious.(Always offering a glass of Raki)
Entertainment is held in the hotel next door which puts on a Greek night once a week which is well worth the money.
Having holidayed in different parts of Greece for 20 years this accomodation is recommended.

| said: The hotel is a good standard for the price paid. The location is good- next to the beach and not right in the heart of the town.
Sofia who owns the place works to high standards. The food served in the bar area is good quality.
Friends we met there had fun evenings in the bar with Sofia joining in.
The bathroom in our appt was very 70's & brown. The rest of the accommodation was spacious, with good quality furnishings.
