The hotel is based on a 17th century castle, and is the only one still occupied! the original 1625 castle forms the southern end of the hotel. It stands directly over the road from the sea, on the sweeping bay of Ballygally. On a clear day you can ( I'm told!) see Scotland.
For a 3* hotel it appears sumptuosu on first entry. the Reception area is warm and welcoming with rich colours and period furniture.
The rooms are very large with huge beds, a good range of furniture and the biggest TV I have ever seen in a hotel room. A large well-appointed bathroom - complete with yellow plastic duck for the tub! - completes the room.
The bar area is cosy and welcoming with large open fires, and a huge selection of sofas and easy chairs to sit and relax. The bar prices are no higher than pub prices.
The only meals I had there were two breakfasts. They offered the usual range of fruit juices yoghurts and cereals, wth tea/coffee and toast being served fresh to your table. The actual hot breakfast was a little disappointing being swrved buffet style so the eggs in particular were overcooked.
The staff are friendly and charming with that delightful irish lilt!
