THE GOOD: Lovely hotel, large clean rooms, nice pool area and nice view. The animation programme was very good and the animation team were all very nice and helpful.

The food was far from the best I've ever had but, nevertheless, it was adequate, although breakfasts (as I've found with most Turkish hotels) was poor and not worth the effort.

THE BAD: Too many rules. It was like being in boarding school with teachers telling you off all the time.

The all-inclusive drinks menu was very restrictive. There were no local spirits other than Vodka and Gin. Coffee machines in the restaurant were only switched on during breakfast and were off during lunch and dinner times. It was only possible to be served two drinks at a time and only one drink per person after 11.30pm.

Food and drink was not allowed to be taken to the room so if you wanted to take a tea/coffee to your room signs were displayed and informed you that you would be charged €20 if you did so.

The ice-cream for kids on the all-inclusive consisted of them being able to have one ice-cream per day which they had to queue up for at a designated time and place.

You will only be allowed one key-card for your room regardless of how many occupants there are. If you needed to get in your room and your room-mates were either asleep or out you had to go to reception and get someone to come and let you in.

Sun loungers around the pool were practically impossible to get. We had to be up at 6am and stay on our loungers to be able to enjoy the day and even then staff had a problem with us. We had already spent two full days sat on uncomfortable chairs in the bar, therefore, unable to enjoy the sun. Getting up early was the only solution and, of course, this state of affairs totally took the shine off our holiday.

The pool area was tidied every day but not thoroughly cleaned. Ashtrays were left unemptied and the pool wasn't cleaned to a sufficient standard as there was still debris floating around after cleaing had taken place.

The other option of sun loungers on the pontoon was a chargeable service which isn't advertised.

THE UGLY: We've been to Turkey before and absolutely loved the Turkish hospitality but I can honestly say that in 20 years of travelling I have never come across a hotel with such rude and agressive clientele with very few helpful staff. On the whole if you abided by the vast array of rules in place they would, perhaps, crack a smile for you but otherwise I found the staff to be somewhat surly and distant.

While our holiday was still quite enjoyable the negative points outweighed the positive points and I would never recommend the Didim Beach Resort Hotel to anyone who was looking for a trouble-free relaxing holiday.

I found the Didum Beach a superb hotel for what we wanted for a family of 3.
The food was outstanding and was well above what we had expected after reading some other reviews. Everynight they had either a bbq or a Turkish kebabs cooked in traditional clay ovens.
My daughter went to the kids club and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Our room was on the 3rd floor and had 2 balconies and 3 picture windows looking over the sea/pool & new marina currently being built (couldnt believe it !!!)
This area is going to be the cosmopolitan part of Turkey and would want to come back very very soon. The dolmas bus ran every 15min from the front of the hotel and was only a 5min ride into the Town of Alkinkham. We went out for a meal to Valentines & Fatimas both were cheap & good quality (£25) drinks and 3 meals.

We had many problems with this hotel - not enough food was served leaving us some evenings with nothing left for us to eat, much of which was cold/soggy, wouldn't have wanted to have fed a child there as there wasn't much choice.

When confronted staff about food running out within allocated times for meals, they advised that no more would be brought out as it was nearing their end of season and they were running stocks down.

We found rats coming up from the basement club area into the hotel by the restaurant and kitchen - told staff who promptly brought in a wild cat to catch them!

Only one restaurant was open during our stay. Broken fittings and smelly bathrooms in rooms. Pier Bar is part of hotel and chargeable drinks there - but watch out! We caught them over charging us for drinks and when questioned, they said they were told by reception to add extra onto the drinks prices.

If you buy drinks after midnight - make sure you have correct money as they never have change and could easily forget they owe you (as happened to us).

We had signs up everywhere in hotel about illnesses that were going round the hotel and that they were scheduled to disinfect the whole hotel and guest rooms included whilst we were there.

We found the staff very stand offish and seemed to be programmed to extract money at any given opportunity. Due to food problems and the rats we saw, we ate out far more than we intended and the holiday cost us much more.

Even at the end, we were told there was nowhere to store our luggage whilst we checked out and waited for our transfer to airport so they charged us £30 to keep the room on.

I went and got this money refunded immediately when I passed a room which said in english on the door "Luggage Room".

So be very careful.

My philosophy is always if the kids have a good time so do i. That is exactly what happened, we have two 5 yr olds and they had a whale of a time. In between the water slides, playing football and the kids club they just about remembered they had parents!!!
If you have young children this hotel is ideal.
The entertainment at night was not very good, but you make your own fun.
Food was a bit repetative but it filled you up and was always hot.
Only downside is the transfer time from the airport, apart from that would love to go back.

We entered to an impressive hotel entance, and smiling staff who organise your check in very quickly.

The bags were taken to our room. The room was tiny you could not walk around the beds," Oh well lets make the best of it we will not be in here much any way",I said to my underimpressed wife.

The curtains were then drawn and they all fell to the ground, the girls then tripped over a broken step in the middle of the floor, more tears. Enter the bath come shower room it stunk and was filthy!

First trip to the reception informed them about all the faults and asked to be moved, they informed me if I wanted a better room it would cost 200 pounds cash I refused. But one good thing the weather was brill" it,s one of the hottest days of the year "the staff said"45c. So back to my room and on with the air con not that simple it did not work so another trip to the reception we will send out someone they said. So we got our 3 and 6 year old to bed they were very tired after a full day travelling "I will go and get us both a beer and relax on the balcony" wrong!. CCTV cameras everywere and signs informing you no drinks to be taken to your rooms or you will be fined 20 euros with out you knowing.Went back to the room to tell my already depressed wife, engineer was here fixing the aircon 11.45pm stood on my sleeping daughers bed. He could not fix it!

We all had a very hot and sleepless night it can only get better. Went to breakfast food what you would expect for all inclusive, older staff members quite pleasant younger ones rude!

Went to see the manager about our room he also tried get 200 pounds cash out of me again I refused and asked to have all the faults fixed.

I could go on and on but the trend continued the whole holiday in this 2 star hotel, one more thing all drinks watered down and you can only get one glass per person so the whole family has got to queue at the understaffed bars.

The kids really want to go back to this hotel.

We've travelled to Turkey several times but this was one of the best holidays we've had especially for what we paid! It was a last minute deal off the internet.

The hotel was clean and the rooms were done daily.

There was plenty to choose to eat each day and this was the first time that any of us never had a upset tummy.

The hotel is out in the sticks abit and it was a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest shops but we only left the hotel once.

The hotel staff we're really friendly and looked after us especially nelly, aihmet and dj from the animation team. The entertainment wasn't up to much in the evening but they really did try and get everyone involved during the day and we all participated in the activities throughout the day.

We would definately go back to this hotel again we've been 5star in turkey before and although this was advertised as 5star it was more 3-4 but we had such a great holiday that we would go back.

Hi,

I hope this report assists anyone in their choice of hotel. Firstly, where do I start. I suppose like a lot of people we read the reviews. Well forget the negatives and enjoy your holiday to the best of your ability.

We travelled with a company named RIGHT HOLIDAYS via teletext holidays. Firstly a big thank you to Romeo for his suggestion of this accomadation, we travelled on an all inclusive package advertised as 5 star, for the
money, get real, think 3 star plus....now your cooking!

LOCATION... on the beach at a quiet end of altinkum but dont let this detract you .. get a dolmus for 50p into town 5min ride.

The beach is a haven, secluded, yet within easy reach of all water sports and boasts its own diving school.

HOTEL.. forget 5star but you get what you pay for..... a very good 3star plus.. the interior/exterior are excellent and the rooms are comfortable...try for a room with a bath as the shower in our room was small but adequate.

FOOD.. This is buffet style with a varied selection that could repeat its self over two weeks we imagine I heard someone complain there were no egg and chips one day.

Benidorm beckons...this was the only day chips were missing we think.

FLIGHTS.. We travelled with ONUR AIR.... never heard of them what a surprise it's a Turkish budget airline and better than some English carriers.

ENTERTAINMENT... Everyone should experience this.The
management should take note you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear..give the guys the tools because the enthusism is there......this is all audience partisipation with a few sketch shows... well done the crew, with what your given..

We stopped at this hotel while looking at buying an apartment.

It's in a good location just outside resort.
on the beach, free sunbeds watersports, and drinks on the beach.

It has 2 waterslides,tennis courts,kids club.
big pool.
Lots of sunbeds around the pool, and lots of space for more.

It has 4 glass lifts.
5 bars.

Only problems we encountered were, bathroom very dimly lit.
Bridge at pool area slippy. Noisy neighbours.

Have booked again for next year with the kids.

Cleanliness and decor of hotel was 4 star

When we first arrived we couldn’t believe how great the hotel looked but

1. Showers leak not a bit a lot we did ask for this to be looked at but nothing was done so we continued for 2 weeks to put towels down to soak up the water.

2. The food at most is worthy of 3 stars everything was chicken except for the ostrich steaks they served. And nearly every meal was cold or warm, even if you made it at the start of meal times the food was never hot. The best part of the meals was the salad. I’ve eaten better meals at local burger takeaways. To be honest if you choose this hotel you need to go self catering and eat out. We went all inclusive and had enough of the low standard after 4 days so I spent an extra £300 on eating in local restaurants which was much better.

The entertainment during the day was ok but there was nothing in the evening I think the sale of playing cards went up 95% as the only entertainment was pool.

Several children cut themselves on broken glass by the pool while we were there this although was not down to the hotel but ignorant holiday makers taking there glasses outside next to where children were playing.

The private beach at first looked amazing but oh no all was not as it seemed you can walk around to the left of the beach but this is not advised. A child’s ball was blown out to sea I watched it to see it had stopped on this hazardous walk so I set out to retrieve it
to my horror there was broken glass not a bit but loads, rubbish and some of it wasn’t very pleasant you can imagine what I mean so the kids ball had to stay lost I thought ball or health so I chose the latter

I have been to Turkey many times before and will do again. Maybe Altinkum but not this hotel.

This Hotel is lovely.

Rooms very clean and modern.

Food good, plenty of choice.

Great views both sides. Air conditioning in rooms.

Lots to do, try the spa, haggle for freebies, face treatments etc.

My daughter had to see the doctor whilst there, on site treatment room, £20 to see doctor another £12 for prescription, hand delivered within 15 mins to hotel, no hassle at all.

Pool great, very deep. Grab sunbeds early. Free towels for pool/beach.

Beach disappointing, very narrow, but there is a huge jetty built out into the sea which is stunning, however it costs 10lira each to go on for the day but well worth it.

The Saturday market is an experience, great bargains. Everything a 'tenner' just depends how many, 4 for a 'tenner' try for 5 or 6.

We loved Turkey, the people are great, just a firm no thank you is all that is needed. We would go back.

My stay at Didim Beach resort was lovely.

I had an amazing time, the hotel was very clean, food was good , location was good because there was a bus that stopped out side that took you to the shopping places and the market.

The hotel staff was absoloutely incredible they were all lovely & polite.

The entertainment was the best bit, esspecially at night at the ampitheatre the comedy show was hallarious, and I would definitely visit this hotel again.

Hopefully am going next year.

This hotel was brilliant.

I was there when the world cup was on, all the staff were trying to watch it so got to know some of them quite well and they were all top people.

What a view.

Food was good and plentiful.

The sea was great, as good if not better than
Spanish islands and I've spent the last 30 years going to them. I have told all my freinds to go here.

One thing is bartering....start as low as possible, they won't be bothered as long as they think they might get a sale. I know this because my wife is Italian and I've done it for years.

Did not see much entertainment but what we did was ok.
Went into town most evenings to walk the food off.

The hotel was fantastic, a group of us travelled with JMC on arrival we could not believe how clean and smart the hotel was.

The food was very good, something for everyone.

The location was good not too far from town, you could walk in 10 mins or get dolmus, all the staff were excellent and the entertainment team made our holiday especially edgy and snoopy, they work long hours from 10am till midnight. We all agreed we would all go back again.

Whilst we were there they were just building a jetty, a bar was being built as we left, all I can say is it is good value for money and you must go. Brilliant. Every day we got back to the hotel with something on the bed from the maids, either swans, fans or hearts, it was a lovely idea and it was talk of our group, we all asked each other what we had today.... Also rooms were cleaned daily.

Wonderful hotel.

As we had booked a 5 star holiday it was a total shock to be at this hotel. 5 stars on the entrance but as we were shown to our rooms we thought "what is going on" The first rooms we were given were on the 1st floor and were totally foul, the smell from the bathroom and the sink had a green mould all around it we were then moved to the 6 th floor which were a bit better.

The food was a nightmare it was cold or luke warm and was made up of either salads or stew dishes which were the left overs of the previous night and for breakfast have you seen nearly 40 - 50 people queueing up for fried eggs.

I have been of work for the last week since I returned with a bacterial stomach infection which I have been told I must have caught through poor food hygiene. That must have been maybe from the cats that sat on the trolleys licking the plates or that wandered about the restaurant.

The hotel staff were friendly but when you complained they just smiled and said the hotel was going to be totally refurbished at the end of the season but after reading the rest of the reports this is something they must say every year

The drinks are all the same ie spirits just a different colour and are watered down each bottle they brought out always had a broken seal so I take it they just decant out the back.

Please please take my advice don't go to this hotel and I am sure we will see this soon on television from that wonderful programme holidays from hell

I only wish I had known about this web page before I went.

Just returned from spending two weeks at the Didim Beach Resort.

Food was very good and is of a better standard than we have had before at All inclusive's in Turkey.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, rooms cleaned every day. Housekeeping staff constantly cleaning (litter and plastic cups which was droped by Brits) around the hotel all the time.

No problems getting served at the bars, alcohol, soft drinks, tea and coffee available from 10am untill 1am
Plenty of sunbeds and towels.

Entertainment staff work very hard to keep everyone
Good location with its own beach.

Local mini buses every 2/3 minutes to town centre and shops for only 40 pence.

Nice hotel (definately not 5 star - more like 3+), but this was what we expected. Seems we were lucky in some ways as there was a change of management and soft drinks etc were good brands. Most staff very friendly - reception staff seemed to not be able to make decisions without speaking to the manager. Small repairs fixed very quickly -(safe & toilet). Bar staff overworked - needed more of them, but they tried their best to serve people in orcer. Room was spacious and clean.
There was a very good selection of food at all times - outside chefs were very good. My children and I ate well every day, despite them being a little fussy about food at home!
Entertainment was poor during the first week. However the animation team was changed after our first week and the entertainment/activities dramatically improved, both during the day and on a night.
The hotel was situated in a quiet place, but Altinkum was an easy walk or short bus drive away.

On arrival this hotel looked fantastic. Unfortunately, after only a few hours we found that it was not what it seemed.

Our room was tiny. The single bed was pushed against a wall at the back of the room - it was really dark with no light. The wallpaper was peeling off the wall and there was a smell of dampness in the room. We started to unpack, and the wardrobe doors fell off.

We then went to dinner at the all inclusive restaurant only to find on our first night that the food was cold and most of it was covered in flies. And things only got worse.....

My 5 year old son and husband both had food poisoning for 6 days.

All the drinks were warm and there was never any ice
We could't have a drink at the entertainment area as there was no drinks allowed ? (the entertainment was on for 2 hours a night - but we were not allowed to drink?!!!!)

The only thing edible throughout the day that my son would eat was chips - we had to queue for 20 mins to get them.
I never once had hot water so we all had to take cold showers.

The air-con went off in the middle of the night - every night. It also broke down 4 times?

The tables in the dining room were filthy.

Kid club - what kids club..everytime we went there was no-one there.

Food was the same every morning, noon and night.
After a couple of days and stomach upsets, we decided to eat outwith the hotel - and we all recovered from our upset stomaches.

The drinks are watered down. I work for a Spirits /drinks company, and on my return, I had the Vodka tested at our Lab for the Alc percentage. Vodka should have been 37.5% - results of my samples showed it to be 16% - more than half watered down.

I also found a bunch of keys in my room left there by a cleaner. It had all the keys to the second floor on it. In the wrong hands this could have caused a disaster.

Our room was never hoovered in 14 days. I removed our pillow cases as they were smelly.

I tried to tell our Rep that we found the food and drinks unacceptable but she said there was nothing she could do. We ended up spending about £400 over our budget because we had to eat outside the Hotel.

Sorry for going on and on. Believe it or not, I am not one to complain. But in this instance, I think it is important that I let people know that this is a hotel for Hell. Please, Please do not go.

Long queue's for food kebabs uncooked.

Stayed in better 3 star hotels.

We arrived at this hotel thinking it was a 4 star. How far from the truth.

The food was the worst slop we have ever had to eat it was uncooked in some cases mouldy and covered with flies. There was no children’s menu and anything that was remotely edible we had to queue for at least 15 minutes.

The drink was just cheap supermarket rubbish which was warm.

The children were allowed 1 ice cream a day at 5 o'clock no more and had to queue for ages.

Some of the bar staff were lazy arrogant and more interested in our young girls than serving.

The hotel location was good great views over the sea the pools were excellent and clean the entertainment was awful we went out most nights to eat and drink.

Our advice would be to look elsewhere because this was rubbish.

This has got to be the worst holiday we have ever been on. It claims to be 5* and I have been to better 2* in Altinkum. Lots of people had food poisoning thats if they were brave enough to eat the food.

The drinks were a joke you couldn't get served and when you did you got a small plastic cup with watered down beer or spitits. The staff left a lot to be desired.

The only advice I can give you is DON'T GO. It is the Turkish equivalent of Fawlty Towers without the humour!! If you do go make sure you take plenty of extra money as it cost us over £600 on food and drink because your health was at risk if you ate at the hotel.

In fairness I have given everything a 1 as I am unable to rate it all ZERO.

Well doesnt this this hotal look beautiful in the brochure.
Have you ever been to look at a house for sale and the pictures on the details are nothing like the real thing???
Expect the same at this hotel.

Well here goes:
Food - If you like salads then you are going to have no problems - trying to get my children to eat something other than chips was impossible. The food just didn't look eadible.

Rooms: Looked more like a hostel than a hotel - we booked a family room to sleep 4 and it just did that by pushing together 2 camp beds next to our double. Warning take coat hangers with you - only 4 in wardrobe and that goes for the other rooms also. We had to pile our clothes on the floor. But the air con in the rooms was appreciated.

Staff - Now the staff did try, we didn;t have a problem with the staff apart from they get too friendly if you have a blonde haired daughter which could be a bit freaky at times.

Entertainment - Absolutely crap.
I would go back to Turkey but not to this hotel - even going into the local town got boring.

I travelled from Manchester airport and arrived at the hotel at 5am, first impressions were good untill I entered the hotel.....
the place is in need of a good RE-VAMP, the furniture in my room was falling apart, paint coming off the walls and the bathroom was in a dire need of modernisation.
the rooms were clean and the staff worked hard to maintain the reasonable cleanliness.
the pool area was a danger zone!! the area was vey slippy and many children were falling and injuring themselves also there is a huge problems with birds!! they are everyhwhere in the surrounding area of the hotel and the area where the pool is and sunbathing is covered with bird excrements ....including the people who are in this area!!
the location is decent but could be closer to more entertainment, also the 'private' beach wasnt very exclusive as many local people from the area invaded it everyday resulting in issues with the lifeguard and hotel staff!!
all in all the hotel staff were very helpful and tried to help you as much as possible though the bar staff at the pool prefered to take there time serving you.
the entertainment was poor most of the time even thought the entertainment staff tried their best. the animation team were very good and some of the activities kept the children entertained. the evening entertainment could have been better although the children enjoyed the mini dsco there was nothing for the adults apart from going to the bar and drinking the watered down alcohol!
the food was terrible!! surrounded by flies and was cold by the time you recieved it. there was also not a lot for the children and the 'snacks' mostly seemed non-existent as when the childen went for them the were told there was nothing left. also a couple of people who were leaving when I arrived had suffered from food poisoning.
I would advise people not to visit this hotel, if you want the holiday from hell then ...go ahead!
many regards the kay family.

We travelled as a family the Tropicana Hotel the children are 15, 14 and 9 years and we all had a really good time.

The hotel is lovely and you are very well looked after and there is lots to do for the kids but beware it can be expensive i.e 6.oo for a game of pool for an hour and also there are a lot of arcade games.

We had no problems with the food at all it is very nice for adults but unfortunately the kids didn’t like it at all they do have burger and chips on in the afternoon. That was ok but my youngest daughter didn’t like the burgers or chips so we found that very challenging and expensive as the shop in the hotel is very dear as there are no other shops very close so he did tend to charge over the odds for everything.

The entertainment staff are fantastic and very friendly and will try and get you involved in everything they work very hard and really make your holiday enjoyable. They got us doing all sorts of silly dances and stuff. While we were there they got a new entertainment manager and he really made a difference he really cracked the whip and the shows were really good everyday they have a game around the pool and then they get everyone up to do the pool dance and I mean everyone so be warned, no one is safe!!!

Food awful people suffering from food poisoning and a few people had been on a drip in hospital. Do not cater for the English.

Drinks selection disgrace, no fresh juice just fizzy drinks or watered down sour cordial. Ate at Jackie and Bobs English restaurant next door most nights. Highly recommended!!!

Hotel very nice rooms great. Pool and beach very nice.

Unfortunately,we have to agree with the majority of the reviews we read just before our holiday started.

The hotel itself looks good and the housekeeping standards are fine in what is a fairly large and busy hotel.

There is a problem around the pool area caused by bird droppings from birds roosting on the higher ledges of the hotel and a few guests complained of birds flying into their rooms if their balcony doors were left open. This is not a problem encountered if your room is either at the front of the hotel or on the outside of the two wings. Rooms overlooking the pool area also have the disadvantage of noise from 8.00am onwards.

The entertainment was limited - no fault of the hard working enterainment staff. The `nightclub` tended to remind you of attending a family `do` thrown by your least liked cousin - a few adults accompanied by their young kids (incl. pushchairs) being the guests.

The hotel is situated about a 15 minute walk from Altinkum centre (5 mins by dolmus)and has great sea views.
In fact, if the board basis had not been `all inclusive`, the accommodation would have been fine.

The food was repetetive to say the least. Drinks from the bar were diluted (apart from the beer)and all were served in polystyrene cups during the day. Service at the bar during the evenings was provided by a maximum of two bartenders. After the third day we ate out apart from breakfast and we even booked a two day tour with overnight stay elsewhere. This was not our intention as we were only on a one week package.

While we were there the hotel was downgraded by the Turkish tourist authority - losing one of its stars - we can understand why. The management are due to be replaced again - they have only been there since the start of this season.

Altinkum again - yes, later this year. Tropicano Didim Beach - no.

We travelled at the end of May 2005, and stayed at Didum Beach for 1 week.

First impressions when you arrive at the hotel are very good, from outside the hotel looks very grand and the reception area is very smart.
On checking into our room for the week, the first thing that struck us was the disgusting shade of dark pink plastered all over the room, the room was also very dark and pretty depressing, the bathroom had no window or ventilation.

The cleaning maid was spot on, very meticulous and even made swans out of the towels and put rose petals on my wifes bed (we were given a twin room).
Onto the food, at the very best the food could be described as diabolical! This was our 6th visit to Turkey and the 5th time all inclusive. I would not have fed the stray dogs outside the hotel with the food that they served up. Absolutely no choice and the same meals being dished up with alarming regularity. One day they served chips and the queue for them must have gone right round the hotel! Only one al-a-carte restaurant was open and you had to pay for that, once there the manager will do his best to sell you wine for anything over £20, and reacts with disgust when you refuse.

All the alcohol at the hotel is heavily watered down with the exception of the raki which they cant water down as it turns white! Trying to get served at the main bar is nothing but frustrating as it is very understaffed and what staff they do have do the very best to ignore you. The main bar also houses five pool tables which they charge you £4 per hour to use.

The shops in the hotel do nothing but attempt to rip you off, my wife was charged £15 for a tube of pringles and a magazine, and on our penultimate day they attempted to charge me £19 for a packet of fags!

Other than the mini disco there was no entertainment at all except for the thursday and friday night.

Whilst attempting to sunbathe around the pool area you will be very lucky not to be covered in bird excrement from the thousands of birds that nest in the hotel window frames.

This was without doubt the worst hotel we have stayed in, and bearing in mind that the first time we went to Altinkum we stayed in a 2 star I think that says it all!

I read all the reviews on this site just before I went. I decided to go with an open mind and with the thought that 5 star in England is not 5 star in Turkey. This is definetly not a 5 star hotel.

Our room was in great need of new carpets, the furniture, we had 1 wardrobe with 2 hangers for 4 of us. The towels were grubby and constantly wet. The bathroom was tiled in black and with no windows was like a dungeon. They put us on the 7th floor which was at the top, we had a family room which was 2 rooms with a door between, we couldn't open the door to the balcony as I have a 3 year old and with air con in only one of the rooms it got very hot.

The pictures of the hotel on the internet are very decieving.
The food was ok, some of it I enjoyed I don't go on holiday to eat burger and chips but I would say that there is no choice for children. My children ate rice, chips and bread for the week we were there. The snacks in the hotel in the afternoon were virtually non existant, my 6 year old son queued up and when he got to the front was told there were none left.

The drinks are all watered down, maybe apart from the beer.
If your an early riser you will be ok as people were up putting towels on sunbeds round the pool as early as 6am. Its not ideal round the pool as it becomes extremely slippy and children falling and hurting themselves, the water slides are great fun and my 6 yr old really enjoyed them.

The entertainment well all I can say is my kids enjoyed the mini disco, the rest wasn't worth anything. This hotel needs to get its act together. It should not be sold as 5 star as that is decieving. There was one plus, the weather was gorgeous. I was told that this was not Turkey so I wont let it put me off going to turkey again.

When we arrived we were checked in very quickly and given, as requested, a pool view. The room was clean and although a little basic, fine. There was Satellite TV but the only english was CNN and BBC Prime. Lots of MTV style programs on and it was not a problem.

The hotel was very big and clean, a little run down in places and could do with new carpets and the outside a lick of paint. There were lots of starlings about and nests everywhere, got a little package from a starling one night!

For the first few days there was plenty of food and a very european feel to it. We enjoyed this, there was fresh bread, naan bread, pitta bread, eggs, omlettes, baked potatoes, stew, fried fish, meat dishes all being made on site in front of you. Then after 3 days the fresh food all stopped! The chefs were sacked and there was virtually no food for the next 4 days. We and everybody else complained and thy sorted it on our last day. Throughout the holiday there was no chips or english style food at all, we did not mind this but a LOT of people were very very upset at there being virtually nothing for the UK chips & burger style diet!

For the first few days there was no entertainment at all day or night, then an entertainment team turned up and they were trying very hard and didn't to too bad a job.

There was only one man on the inside bar and one on the outside bar most of the time and this meant lots of queues. The wine and soft drinks were self service so we stuck to them most of the time. There was a smallish arcade, four very large modern (virtually brand new) pool tables and lots of cues. Table Tennis, table football and two PC's for internet access with webcams. There was face painting and an on site (very poor) gym.

The location of the hotel is very good, 10 YTL to town in a taxi (£4) or 1 YTL each on the bus (runs every 10 minutes from the hotel front from 7 am until 1159pm).

Private beach is ok, very narrow but the so called 3rd beach is just next door and excellent, the best in Altinkum.

The slides are great fun, our 5 & 17 year olds loved them.

The hotel was meticulously cleaned by the housekeeping crew who from what we could see never stopped sweeping and picking up litter etc. They were fighting a loosing battle against the swallows that were nesting all over the front of the hotel and dropping there little packages all over the outside bar tables, (thank goodness for the very large brollies during the sunlight hours.)

The food although varied was as other reports say not always hot and very repetitive after the first few days. (I believe a new chef has been brought in and the food did get better towards the end of the week.)

The hotel is situated far enough away from the town to be away from the noise, but only a short bus ride on the very cheap (Dolmus) that run every few minutes.

The hotel has its own small beach and tiered sunbathing areas. The flying ants (at beach level) were a nuisance at first but did not bite and seemed to go away after you had been on the beach a short time.

The pool was nice and big and cleaned regularly and the water slides looked like great fun for the kids(and adults)
If you want a sun bed then you have to be up very early to put your towel on one. People were doing it in shifts and I saw one man place 12 towels on beds, six of which were not used for 5 hours (bit naughty I thought). Still all in all a nice place.

We went all inclusive during half term.

The hotel is large with big bedrooms, but all very tatty and hardly any storage, leaky showers etc. It was clean until the last 2 days when they seemed to not care because we were the last guests of the season. For the same reason only one restaurant was open.

There was no entertainment at all. Most of the promised facilities were not available.

Staff were mostly unhelpful, all male and only interested in the females from the age of 10 upwards.

It was a ten minute walk from town no paths etc. but a mini bus goes past every 15 minutes about 30p a time.

The swimming pool was freezing.

We would not go back, or use Goldtrail again. We also flew on a Monarch flight and were all sprayed with insecticide!

We arrived worried about the standard of hotels in Altimkum as we were the last on the coach after 6 drop offs to other hotels. I can say that the first impressions were good but it was 4am in the morning.
The hotel was OK but was looking very old and in need if a face lift (carpets, paint etc). The rooms were clean and tidy and the staff were very hepful and friendly. I paid for a safe in the room only to find out that it was on a piece of wood that i could pick up and carry out of the room easly. Also my key fitted 3 of the other parties rooms that I had gone there with (to our horror I tried one of the rooms on a different floor and it opened the door, when I checked some of the others the same thing happened).

The pool are was good as was the beach area, but my biggest complaint was the food. For this reason alone I would not go back to this hotel, If you are on a weight loss program or worried about putting the pounds on on holiday then there is no worries here you just won't eat. It was the worst I had had in years. The bars were good but all inclusive is one thing but they would only put one barman on in the evening so you were always waiting 15-20mins to get served, ok in the day easy but nightime it was a nightmare.

The entertainment also left a lot to be desired, we made our own fun or went out in the nights.

Apprently this hotel is having a major refurbishment when it closes the end of October 2004, boy does it need it as there is a brand new hotel being built opposite, if they do nothing then no one will be going there after that opens.

This hotel is nowhere near 5 star. It's like the Turkish money they have just added stars to the end. This was 2-3 star at best so don't be fooled.
15 years ago maybe 5 star but not now.

The only good thing about the hotel is the road out of it.

The food gave our whole family stomach upset.

The room was falling apart the lifts were dangerous don't put your kids in.

When I returned I visited the hospital and was told I had severe stomach illness along with my 1 and a half year old daughter and wife.

I have been on holiday to Turkey before and it was lovely but this is not.

Staff didnt care. Entertainment was non existent.

No where to sunbathe, the hotel got cleaned, I dont think so. So many flies on the food.

I have been to Turkey on holiday before and loved it but this was a trip to hell.

If I had the choice to throw my money away or go on holiday after reading other bad reports, I can only say I wish I had thrown my money away it would have been a safer bet, if you have mistakenly booked this holiday , please please please dont go.

The hotel looks very glitzy and glamourous on arrival at 5am. The rooms are spacious but furniture a bit run down and in need of repair. We had several problems with the smell of sewage being blown back into our room through the toilet and had to seek assistance. It was very noisy at night due to our room being next to the fire escape door- which was kept open and night and constantly banged. We also had alot of noise from the staff office next door and we were constantly disturbed by shouting, talking etc from staff all night - we did raise this with our rep.

The main problem was the horrendous food. I was ill for the two weeks and did not eat for 2 days before leaving for fear of being ill on the plane. Several other people had the same problem and the rep commented there was problems with the food but it did not improve except the night officals arrived and food was great - we ate out that night!

The weather was fantastic and the view from the hotel great. It definetley is not 5 star - 2 or 3 at a push. Disappointing for my first all inclusive - would got back to turkey but at the most B&B.

We booked up as a last minute holiday and was looking forward to going, but when we got there we wanted to go straight home!!!

We paid for a safety deposit box, which wasn't even attached to the wall and also paid for a family room (only a couple of extra pounds, but worth the veiw!)

And got a great deal even though we were the furthest off all the rooms in the hotel and was next to the hotel cleaning cuboard. A bit of adivce on taking young girls(from 10 upwards)and women as the male staff wil not leave them alone!!!

The food was awful and not a good choice for kids, we went as an all inclusive, but ended up as self-catering and for the rest of the holiday we went to resturants in the town.
There also wasn't much entertainment in the evening, apart from the ampitheatre which doesn't finish until 22:00 and is not much fun for children from 10+.

If it wasn't for the friends we met there I don't think that the Didim Beach Resort Hotel was very good for the money we paid.

We would not return again, and we wouldn't recomend family groups to go there either!!

This was my second visit to Didim Beach, I came here back in June 2004 and had such a good time that I returned in the September. I found everything superb and very good value for money.

The food was excellent and I found I had lots of choice. There was both European and Turkish cuisine.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and being there on my own was no problem because there was always a friendly member of staff to talk to.

The beach was the best, you could sit on a sunbed and almost dip your feet straight into the water. The sea although quite chilly when first entered was clear and shallow.

My room was a garden view and I could see the entire bay, I've never had such a wonderful view. I had some noise from the fair down the road and the entertainment team in the amphitheatre but only until about 10.30pm.

The poor men in the cafe sport bar worked their socks off. They were understaffed to the amount of people to serve and were run off there feet all evening so I could not complain about the wait.

The carpets on the landings and stairs had gotten a bit shabby from the time I came in June but is only to be expected with the velocity of people staying there in high season.

The entertainment was good but not quite enough of it in the evenings. Most of the time I just had to sit and drink and chat with fellow guests. That was my only complaint, although the animation team were excellent fun and nice people. I bought a great cd from them at the karaoke evening and have played it every day since.

I found the whole holiday excellent value for money as I have been searching for another hotel in Turkey with all of these amenities for the same value and cannot find one. I for one cannot understand all of the complaints that people have made. You can't please some people.

After reading the reviews on this site i must say i was going on holiday with mixed feelings. Although this hotel has never been 5* (i would say 3* at best) it wasn't too bad. For us the location was perfect out of all the noise of the town but yet only a 20 min stroll in to altinkium. The hotel itself is very tired but with some tlc it could be spot on. The rooms were ok nothing special but how much time do you spend in your room anyway. I paticularly liked the different sun bathing areas. The food was average and much of a muchness, but we didn't starve. Quite a noisy hotel and would hate to go in high season but then would hate to go any where high season. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them.

I expect you have probably read the other reviews on this page and now you are worrying about what you have booked - don't. This hotel is fine - its not 5* but it is clean and tidy and the staff are very friendly.

The food is the thing that people seem to moan about most. However, the hotel has pretty much everything from pizzas and chips through to the more exotic dishes. They have a range of salads out every day along with a wide range of fruit - it can get a bit repetitive though. But hey it’s pretty cheap so pop out for a meal every now and then.

If you are like George Best and you like your alcohol you will enjoy this holiday as there is a 24-hour bar and drinks are on them.

The main downside is the beach, which is pretty poor but apart from that the hotel is fine. Have a good holiday and enjoy the special pool dance…

Booked at last minute through company used in April to go to Eqypt. Food ordinary, I became vegetarian for the week!! Desserts particularly dissapointing. All I kept doing was comparing it to the successful holiday we had in Eqypt!!!(Red Sea) If you enjoy a decent glass of wine, forget it! However none of us had tummy problems.
Couldn't fault the cleanliness.
Beach poor and very small although the sea is very shallow for quite a way out, being ideal for children.
Most dissapointing were the lack of activities for children during the day, my son who is 9 wanted to join in with the games the animation team organised but was told they were only for the adults. This seemed rather unfair as the mini club was only realy for the much younger children.
Must agree that the pool area gets very slippery, while we were there at least 3 children had broken their arms.
Only a couple of the staff were friendly.
The evening entertainment was extremely poor. We even had to pay £2 for a bingo ticket one night which realy was pathetic. Prizes were lousy!!
The room was okay, we had a side sea view and it was quiet and most importantly it did have a decent shower!
Might return if it was very cheap!!

Well this was our first trip to turkey and our first all inclusive so cant really draw any comparisons.

However my biggest complaint was the bar because it was so limited and the local vodka. The only vodka available was so heavily watered down. This coupled with the dire quality of the coke and lemonade made it impossible to sit and have a drink in the evening, what a waste of money for me. Tried buying pepsi from the town but still tasted rubbish so I gave up on that score, apparently the hotel had not paid the soft drink supplier and therefore had to improvise with cheap. Local warm mixers, not my problem , but I paid for it!!

The food was okay and the hotel was clean, staff were great and friendly but other holiday makers moaned and moaned about the hotel constantly making it hard to relax.

I did enjoy my holiday because my children had such a great time and thats what I wanted but definately would not go back again, unless it was free!!!

We booked our holiday with A1 Travel (Premier Leisure) last minute on the internet.

Our flights were with Thomas Cook from Gatwick. I have to say that I have never been so cramped. There is absolutely no leg room whatsoever. If you worry about deep vein thrombosis (dvt) then you will be the only one because Thomas Cook obviously does not!

On arrival we were picked up in a small mini-bus (no air-con, no leg room) and transferred to the Didim Beach Resort. Well what a shock! I could not believe my eyes when I saw the hotel. The general appearance is poor; the walls could definitely do with painting as staining from re-inforcement bar is visible. Also there are fairly large cracks in the walls running the full height of the hotel (from top to bottom) and around windows.

Inside is as worse. Very dark and dingy with worn out carpets. The furniture in the rooms is very basic. The entrance doors are not secure with only a basic latch arrangement. We could open ours leaning against it. We paid for the safety deposit box, which is in the room, and on checking it we were able to pull it completely off the wall! I asked for it to be repaired but this never happened until I took the box and placed it on the reception desk and demanded a full refund (this was four (4) days later!).

The pools and the beach had no life-guards or life-saving equipment present. The pools are also very cold. The surrounding area is very slippery and I counted at least ten (10) people a day falling over. I complained to reception and nothing was done.

The food has no British element whatsoever. Six (6) dishes laid out of which you could, on a good day, make three (3) meals out of. Always luke warm never hot with nothing for the kids.

The evening entertainment consisted of some animation till 2200 and if you like loud music the club below the hotel went on until 0200.

To summarise, this is the worst holiday I have ever been on in fourteen (14) years. This is definitely not a five (5) star resort as advertised or sold.

Please, do yourself a favour and stay away!

Like many other people I read the comments left by other people and really feared with what I was going to get when I arrived at the Tropicana Hotel.

With my boyfriend and I in our mid twenties we were wondering if this resort was the right choice.

If you are looking for a resort with lots of British this certainly would not be the hotel for you, we were lucky to know a couple already there. Alot of the people generally seem to keep themselves to themselves. When we first got there the hotel resembled more of a holiday camp, loads of kids even though we chose June/July to try to avoid them.

I was surprised more people/kids have not been seriously injured from the unsupervised kids flying down the water slides, in groups of 5 or more, sometimes paying no attention to the people in the pool below, landing almost on top of them.

The food was actually quite good but it did get quite repetitive towards the end. We both enjoyed the selection and the fact you could get food almost 24 hours a day. We did however, both get what they call Turkish Tummy, thankfully at the end of the holiday. They say that it could be the water and not to blame the food but we only drank bottled water...and can they really convince people it was the ice....

A really good plus to the whole resort was that the all inclusive alcohol was available 24 hours a day - at our previous hotel the alcohol was only available until 11pm.

Altinkum bars and clubs were quite good but alot of families, not a great deal of youngsters of our age - but it depends what you want I guess.

All in all the hotel was quite nice, facilities good, beach and sea nice. Rooms could have been alot better 'very' standard. Overall though the hotel was clean. The reception staff quite unhelpful and only got involved with our transfer difficulties when they were really pushed to do so. The rest of the staff though I thought were very pleasant and helpful, even though it would have been nice to see them smile abit more.

I would go back to that hotel again, yes, but in say 10 years time when I'd appreciate it more.

I have to strongly disagree with the reviewee who said the food was disgusting - it was quite the opposite. There was a wide selection of food availiable and what's all that rubbish about all the food being covered in cream? Although the noise was loud in some room, rooms are there to be slept in - after all you don't go on holiday to stay in a room all the time. Although the beach was small, 100m to the right there was a very large, relatively quiet beach. The hotel was set out on the front away from the main town of Altinkum. If you are a family and want a good, cheap hotel (at least 4* British) then this is the place for you. It costs around £500 per adult depending on the tour operator. Friendly staff and excellent food were present throughout the holiday. However, Turkey is not in the E.U. and everything is bought in cash. There is no lifeguard and the life-bouy was removed during our stay. There is a small, seperate kids pool and the main pool was very good. NO WAY is it a two star. I would recommend it to any family. DO NOT go here if you are looking for some peace and quiet. It is an all-inclusive so it is full of kids running around. However, go with another tour company such as first choice rather than tulip holidays.

We have stayed at this hotel twice now. We went last May and had a brilliant holiday so returned this May.

From the beginning we could see that standards had slipped from the previous year. We were given a shabby room that didn't even have a window so asked to be moved immdiately - to what was only a marginally better room.

The food was not a patch on the previous year and was often luke warm with plenty of flies swarming around.

The safety aspects of the hotel was a huge concern for us.
The lifts were constantly breaking down, often with children in them.

The biggest concern however was the abundance of glass. A 10 year old member of our group mistakenly walked through a glass patio door thinkin that it was open. He ended up with stitches across his face, leg, tummy and in his hand. and had to stay in hospItal over night and travel to have a CAT scan.

He was very lucky not to have been more seriously injured and is now permanently scared.

The glass was unmarked and unlike other hotels there were no warning signs in place - such as big red cirles etc.
It could have happened to anyone but unfortunately happened to a young child.

The glass was not safety glass, it was thin glass that did a lot of damage.

What also didnt he
