The food was not too bad, there is plenty of choice to choose from, try to get to the food sitting early, if you go late the food is not as hot but still ok,

The hotel is very, very clean, can not fault it in any way.

The location is great for the airport transfer and only a couple of mins from the train station, you are not disturbed by the airport across the road.

The hotel staff are excellent, nothing was too much trouble, they work very hard to please you.

At the moment less than 10% of guests are English, so food is mostly catered for the continental Europeans. We found it quite nice though, although no full English breakfast, so if that's a must for you, then don't go here. We loved it though, pancakes, cheese, salami, omelette's, pastries for breakfast and a mix of nice meat/veg/pasta dishes for lunch and tea.

Another common complain I heard was lack of alcohol, but I thought there was lots of choice. No cocktails during the day, but your selection of 3-5 different ones at night, plus spirits and mixers were very strong.

Staff mainly spoke French, so was a bit of trouble getting them to understand you sometimes (asked for 2 cokes , ended up with 2 coffees) but very friendly.

First choice, along with one of the English speaking hotel guides organise English evenings so you don't feel left out, and most of the music they play is English.

Have just returned 2 days ago from this wonderful hotel. Had read a few bad reports but am happy to say none of them were correct. We arrived at 12.45am the hotel porters were waiting to help you with cases before and after check in. the hotel is very clean and well maintained staff very helpful and friendly and CLEAN.

The food wasnt that bad either a wide selection to choose from morning and evening. They will cook omletes for you while you wait I would recommend this very nice they were too.

The entertainment wasnt that good but maybe because it was fairly quiet a the hotel that week.

The location of the hotel is right on the door step to the airport you can walk it there in a few mins, don't worry you dont get that much noce from the plane though and lastly it has its own private beach is is very clean and well looked after. Very powdery white sands.

I would recommend this hotel if you are wanting a relaxing break not much to do appart from worship the sun.

The hotel has security on the entrances so any old tom dick or harry cannot wonder in. This was good too.

Just got back from 1 week holiday at Thalassa Hotel in Skanes. Had a great time.

No problems at the airport and transfer to hotel only takes approx 5 min. Checking in very easy and porter took luggage to room for us. A small tip does wonders for the rest of the stay.

Room very clean and nice size for family of 3. Cleaner very plesant and happy to help if we needed anything. Room cleaned and towels changed everyday.

Although there was a variety of food, not the best. Evening meal better than breakfast. Can get freshly made omelettes and pancakes - best sticking with them.
Going with Thomson Platinum we got a free meal in the al-a-carte restaurant which was very nice.

There are no shops of any type around the hotel. Caught the train (which is by the airport) to Monastir which was very easy to do. Takes approx 20 min. Caught taxi to Sousse for a days shopping. Went into the medinas in both towns. Can get tiring with shop owners constantly trying to get you into their shops - they even follow you down the street. Have to haggle for most items - be careful as you can get ripped off. Best to check prices in the fixed price shops first to get an idea of what you should you pay.

Most of the Hotel staff were great. Didn't find reception or the Health centre staff very friendly - but the waiters, animation team etc great. Give a small tip and the service is very good.

Evening entertainment not great but the animation team did try hard. Daytime activities varied but tended to be on the beach or around pool relaxing.

As we went as the end of August, the hotel was not very busy and therefore had no problems with overcrowding in or around the pool. Have to get sunbeds fairly early though. Best to put towels down on the way to breakfast. The beach was lovely, white sand and the water was clear and warm.

Overall, had a great holiday and will definately go back again.

I have read most of the comments and as a well seasoned holidaymaker can only imagine that they must have stayed in very poor accomadation prior to this holiday.

Firstly the hotel is not a Thompson platinum those whom have stayed in such will know this and its star rating is for the closeness to the beach and certain facilities on offer.

The food mediocre and nothing special to write home about I visited the kitchen and glad I did on my last day.

We had a resident spider on the lamp by the bed and this stayed put along with other bits that should had been cleaned the whole two weeks towells were threadbare and we stop complaining and used our own.

Be very careful of your mini bar and drinks put to the room ,we saved all our tabs and marked them and when we went to book out they had not one of our marked tabs but ones they made up,when shown the marked copies there was some animation in the native tongue and they threw theres some £50 plus in the bin.

The staff there fore are to be watched as they continually tried to short change the children and adults if you got your change and called us capitalists.
But we did find one waiter whom seemed honest and rewarded him for this .

The hotel had seen better years as the girls told us on the ground floor the sewage kept there room nice and smelly ,and other issues that went and fell on death ears only the french seemed to get things done very odd dont you think....

The entertainment sorry we missed it by the time it started it stopped well they try.

This as I say was based on many holidays and this was the dearest apart from the caribean. And I hope you poor people have better standard of hotels in the future.

Went out and about to the Sahara etc and yes they live like dogs saw plenty of them dead and rotting on the road and saw alot we should not have.

But it is a third world country.

After reading all the reviews we set off on our holiday thinking it was going to be a total disaster. No holiday excitement, was even near to what we was expecting, after reading the reviews about this hotel it totally took our holiday excitment away which was most disappointing.

This was the best holiday that we have ever had and we have been goin away for 15 years.

Food, beer, entertainment, night life and staff, beach, apartment, animators, pool, cleaners, I dont think Ive ever been anywhere as clean. Yes there is as a smell which I can only think of being is the seaweed from the sea, which certainly didnt put us off our holiday. Everything was absolutely spot on.

We would definately go back and we cannot fault this hotel in anyway.

Having read all the previous reviews about the Thalassa on this site before we went, we had a very full picture of what to expect.

By far the majority of people had rated it very highly in all but location. We have to agree.

We arrived at Monastir airport at 8pm and then spent about an hour doing customs and waiting on our transfer coach for what we knew would only be a five minute journey to the hotel. If we hadn't had transfers included then a couple of taxis would have been a lot quicker.

No one could fail to be impressed by the appearance of this hotel. The sweeping driveway and glass fronted and columned entrance certainly make an impression straight away.

We found the waiting reception staff to be very efficient and insisted that we didn't have to fill in the arrival cards straight away and that we should make our way to the restaurant for our evening meal as it was nearing the end of the sitting. We thought this might mean that we would not have much to choose from. How wrong we were. We were immediately bowled over by the amazing buffet on offer. The choice was endless. Soups, starters, salads, roasts, pastas , fish, vegetarian, 4 other meat dishes, and Tunisian specialities all beautifully presented and followed by a mouth-watering selection of 20 or so desserts , fruit , ice creams and cheese. The dishes were different every night of our 10 day stay so we were always spoilt for choice. We usually were shown to the same table for meals and this was great as we got to really know the waiters and they us. They were really efficient in clearing away dirty plates and with drinks (more on drinks later).

Breakfasts were equally impressive with a vast choice of breads, croissants, cold meats, cereals, yogurts, crepes and a variety of cooked options to suit all.

After our relaxing first meal we checked in properly and shown to our rooms by the porter with luggage in tow.

Although we had booked two rooms, we hadn't expected them to be together so it was a pleasant surprise to find us and our girls in adjoining rooms with the convenience of interconnecting doors. The rooms were spotless, well furnished and of a reasonable size. The bathrooms especially were spacious and in a very good state. Both rooms had TV's and fridges (ours was stocked with a mini bar) Hair dryers were provided but no kettle/tea /coffee making facilities. We had gleaned this from a previous reviewer and as we have to have a cuppa first thing in the morning we took with us a travel kettle with tea bags etc and this proved to be very worthwhile on numerous occasions.

Our rooms were cleaned and tidied up every day about mid morning, with no problems at all. The hotel is shaped like a U with the pools in the middle. As we had not paid the supplement for a 'Pool view' , our rooms on the fourth floor faced outwards over the sea and some barren land adjacent to the hotel. This wasn't all that attractive but it didn't detract in any way from our enjoyment. The sun came up shining into our room every morning which was great. At least there was no building work going on although I suspect that the land next door is owned by the Thalassa and is being kept as a barrier between them and other hotels up the road.

There was a small safe in our room – keys for which are available from Reception for the price of 25 TD plus a 20 TD returnable deposit. We kept our passports, travellers cheques and jewellery in ours with no problems.

The Pool areas are very well laid out with plenty of space-The water was pretty cold but very refreshing after being in the sun for a while. We were surprised that even though we went in the school holidays the hotel seemed only half full. This was great for us as there was no pressure on sun loungers. Always plenty to choose from by the pool or in the gardens under a palm tree. The loungers are free in the hotel grounds but a charge is made on the beach. Cushions were available – these started at 1TD each per day and then rose to 2TD per day during our stay.

I think that the hotel was caught out by the sudden hot weather in April as quite a few of the outdoor facilities were only just starting up. One of the outside bars was open with waiter service and food was available at lunchtime from restaurant (or to takeaway). The menu for lunch is quite limited , a few pizzas, pastas and some filled baguettes and fries but this didn’t worry us as we were out some days and at other times we really didn’t need too much given the huge breakfasts and dinners. Prices for lunch items ranged from 5 TD to 12 TD.

The hotel is situated right on the beach where there are fixed sun shades which are free to use. The sea was warmer than the pool. There was a fair bit of sea weed around each morning or after some windy weather but the hotel were very quick at clearing it from their stretch.

The water sports centre on the beach run by the hotel was just starting up and offered banana boating, Jet skiing, parascending and other things at very reasonable prices. There is also a dive centre on the beach but we didn’t investigate this.

On the drinks front, as the weather was very warm for us (25 - 35) we found we needed to drink a load of water every day. Bottled water cost around 2 TD for 1 – 1.5 litres. Coke / Fanta etc were also about 2 TD. So we just figured on all our staple drinks costing about a pound a time. Bottled beer was available for about 3 TD and wines with our evening meal would have cost anything from 15 TD upwards. Another tip that we took on board from a previous reviewer was to take a box of wine from duty free at Gatwick and keep it in our room. That way we were able to enjoy a glass or two on our balcony before and after dinner! The hotel officially frowns on you bringing in your own drinks but if you don’t make it too obvious then there is no problem. Who could blame us when water in the supermarkets is about 3TD for 6 large bottles.

The staff were all exceptional. Very hard working, always ready to help and made a big contribution to us having a good time.

The Animation team (entertainment) worked tirelessly running a series of activities including beach volley ball, water polo, football, boules, darts, table tennis and many others. They could be annoyingly persuasive just when we were getting into our books but if we genuinely didn’t want to get involved then that was fine.

We didn’t feel pestered at all about tipping. We gave tips to the waiters every night and to other staff when we felt they warranted it.

The entertainment in the evening centres around some form of show put on by the animation team sometimes with outside help. This varied in quality and was a bit cheesy at times. We tended to make our own entertainment.

There was no shortage of nice seating and tables in the Reception and on the terraces. There was also a very good piano bar with nightly live music and even a karaoke on one night, after which our eldest daughter was asked to play and sing a few songs on another night.

The indoor pool and spa facilites were very good. The girls all had manicures and we tried the Hamman – again very reasonable prices.

The reception staff were always very helpful. Changing our Sterling travellers cheques into Dinars at most times of the day and answering varied questions..

The Thalassa is quite isolated (as is most of Skanes, but there are taxis outside the gate for getting to Monastir and Sousse ( both around 15 minutes away) or do as we did and walk 10 minutes to the airport and catch a local metro train to either town for a ridiculously cheap price (5 TD return for all 5 of us).

Overall if you like a relaxed hotel in beautiful grounds with excellent attentive service and you’re quite happy to chill out in the evenings, then we thoroughly recommend The Thalassa. It was fantastic and we would go there again like a shot.

We caught the early morning Britannia flight (6.55am) and landed after only a 2 1/4 hour flight to Monastir from Gatwick. We were greeted by a Rep and the "porters" dashed off with our cases to the coach. Didnt change any money into Dinars at the airport as we were held up in customs and didnt want to be responsible for holding up the coach - so tipped the porter with a £1 coin to his disgust and off he went muttering.

Anyway 5 mins later we were in the hotel reception as the hotel is only the other side of the road. Very grand entrance / reception area but the reception staff werent the greatest. No complaints as such but it was as though you were disturbing them by either checking in, changing money etc! The guy in the suit never seemed to do anything except boss the others around so not surprising really they werent too happy in their jobs.

All public areas very clean - the guys who work out in the gardens didnt stop grafting and full credit to them on friday / saturday still working in the terrible storm / winds we experienced. Our rooms (103 / 105) were interconnecting, on the ground floor and overlooked a grassy bank to the side of the hotel. Rooms were well serviced, even on our last day the maid made up the beds and cleaned throughout. We had the use of the rooms until 6 for an extra charge to Thomsons (£22). Heating was efficient as the evenings were quite cold. We had 2 days of 26c and sunbathed all day but we had 3 days of a mixture of sun, rain and terrible cold winds that you fought to stand up in, these carried the powder fine sand to sand blast you!

The hotel location was rather unusual. Fab being so close for a transfer from the airport ( dont worry you arent disturbed by the aircraft landing or taking off) but all I can say is that it a busy dual carriage way along which are quite a few huge hotels spread over a considerable distance. A walk to the "miami shopping centre" was about 30 mins - take my advice - DONT BOTHER! We were terribly ripped off by the smaller of the 2 shops and most of the stock was nearly or was out of date.

In the hotel a 1.5 ltr bottle of water was just over 2 DT from the bar, a cocktail (in the smallest wine glass ever seen) with a drop of vodka and blue bols with pineapple was 8DT (£4), a pint of local lager and a fanta were just over 10DT (£5). The pool side service by the waiters is very good and worth tipping.

Now the Spa - well I was looking forward to using this - went there on our first day and was told have to book 2 days in advance for any treatment. She was extremely sullen and I my desire to indulge myself evaporated - the prices contributed to this reaction too! The indoor pool was heated to 32c, pleasant environment but only 2 small shower cubicles poolside with a changing room also poolside but no light / window in it. Heard complaints about the gym (very small) and that they charge quite a bit for anyone to use. They also charge for towel hire - 2 DT each day with a 10DT deposit - no exceptions.

Food was very good - hot and varied, good selections for vegetarians. Bit of a scrum at the buffet - some persons staying here were downright obnoxious and rude at meal times we often saw/ experienced pushing, queue jumping and man-handling of food. Waiters varied - some very good - some not.

Zero entertainment in day - not that we were interested. Cant comment on evenings as went to bed early every night to catch up on the disturbed sleep as the rooms have next to no noise insulation. Regular loud foreign (tended to be eastern european i think) conversations through the corridors late at night, showers running, toilets being flushed all of which sound as though its occuring in your room!

Our room was OK. Bathroom in need ofupdating. Numerous badly chipped floor and wall tiles.

All in all we had a good time just a few things that would make me check out other options first but it was value for money.

Made a reservation by email which was confirmed befoe our departure with the dive centre on the beach of the hotel but when we arrived they were closed for a month! Went to the divecentre at Monistir Marina instead.

Thomson rep Caroline was very helpful - not at all pushy on the excursions - just happy to help.

Stayed at the Thalassa in November 2005.

Although the hotel is in no mans land it is as easy as tripping over a stone to get to Sousse or Monistir. We used cabs outside the main gate.

Food was excellent but as stated by others at brekkie not an all English in sight. Go for scrambled egg on toast. Evening meals brilliant, counted 15 dessert choices and no upset tummies all holiday.

All been said in previous reports. A lovely hotel. Use the spa and have a hammam and massage, brilliant.

However what hasn't been mentioned is the fact that Tunisia has a closed currency policy. You can change money at this hotel but only cash for cash. No cards, in fact you can only use your plastic once when you leave the hotel, so charge whatever you like to the room ie. spa, drinks, etc and save your cash for money exchange.

Remember you cannot take Tunisian money out of the country, the customs men at the airport ask for any DT money and may search you all Dinars found are confiscated. So remember to change cash little and often.

We agree with the positive points made so far.

Food was excellent - a mixture of French and Tunisian but don't expect it to be exactly the same as home - if you want fried breakfast and burgers go somewhere else. They do some pork which given their religion is appreciated.

The staff will help you if you are interested in the local food and become far more friendly if you ask for advice with things you do not recognise (but the lablabi was too much for me!)

Animation team are so enthusiastic (especially "sexy Bobby" - his description!) They are really good with kids and it is refreshing to see English and French kids running over to cuddle them. They really seem to be enjoying themselves and will sing or dance just for fun. The waiters also really like young kids.

If you want to go to Monastir, try the train-dead easy, a bit primitive but a return is 1DT (50p).

We can't fault the Thompson reps, Sophie and Jo-friendly and well informed and not pushy (maybe we'll do some trips next time!).

Rooms very clean.

We didn't really bother with the entertainment and we were far too tired after lying around all day! Beach outside the hotel is fine but they only clean their bit which is a shame.

Nowhere to walk in the evening but ideally placed to visit Monastir or Sousse - buy water there 0,290DT in Monoprix rather than 0,500DT in the Miami centre (30mins walk) or 1,950-2,100DT in the hotel.

We had another excellent holiday in Tunisia -lovely hotel, relaxed atmosphere and a good mix of familiar and different, more unusual than Tenerife and good value.

First of all, this is an excellent hotel and we had a brilliant holiday.

As stated in other reviews, apart from being very close to the airport (with noise most definitely not a problem), this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, there are no shops or bars within reasonable walking distance at all. A taxi into Monastir will cost you 6 dinars, the drivers are very friendly and helpful.

Cleanliness is excellent, with rooms cleaned every day. The chambermaid will visit at about 8.30 to take your towels, and they are not replaced until lunchtime - so make sure you put the 'Do not Disturb' sign on your door at bedtime, although they do have an unfortunate tendency to ignore this, and burst in you while you're still in bed!

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, but the balcony chairs are very uncomfortable and you will not want to sit out for long!

Food in the evening was excellent, although after a week we were suffering from buffet fatigue. What did let the hotel down foodwise was the breakfasts. We are not the type of holidaymakers who expect a 'full English', but the hot buffet often had stone cold food on display, which was very unappetising. We stuck to scrambled eggs or omelettes in the end.

We didn't use the pool area, but went on the neasch every day. It's a beautiful beach, we were always able to get sunbeds where we wanted, and the beach attendants were very helpful and friendly, bringing mattresses to us without being asked.

Food at the barbecue next to the beach was excellent, and reasonable value for lunchtime, although with a rather linited menu, the 'briqs' are delicious - a must!

Beware of the man carrying the kettle! He will give you a glass of mint tea, as if it's a sign of hospitality, and then ask for your money - VERY expensive; our one and only argument with a member of staff! The hotel staff are very friendly, and work long hours for a pittance. Bar service is best described as 'relaxed', in other words you may have to wait a little longer than you expect to quench your thirst! Some of them struggle with English, most seem to be more fluent in French, but if a member of staff didn't understand us, he asked a colleague to assist him.

We went on Thomson's 'Tale of Three Cities' tour, good value at around £25 per head, (although I noticed it was 7 dinars cheaper for German Thomson clients!), you're out of the hotel for 10 hours and all the sights are worth seeing, although we wouldn't recommend it for the less able bodied, it's a very tiring day!

We didn't bother with the entertainment, although we heard it in the backgound - it seemed to be mainly aimed at the French majority staying in the hotel.

Overall, an excellent hotel, although we would dispute Thomsons 4*plus rating, it didn't quite have that extra 'something', 4* would be more appropriate. We didn't feel either that the hotel quite made it to Platinum standard, earlier this year we stayed in a 4* Platinum in Crete, and it was far better.
One word of caution for those booking for 2006 - as we left, land clearance was going on on a large plot on the southern side of the hotel, maybe there could be some building planned?

We have recently returned from a two week holiday in the Thalassa Hotel in Skanes/Monastir.

The only disappointment we had was the location of the hotel. It is a walk away from the airport and has no shops of any kind within walking distance from the hotel. However we were not unduly troubled by aircraft noise and the Airport Metro was within walking distance. This allowed us easy/cheap access to Sousse and Monastir.

The hotel and rooms were kept very clean and the staff very friendly.

The choice of food was excellent and there was no need to venture out to purchase evening meals. As with any buffet it does become a bit of a routine by the end of the fortnight.

The evening entertainment was at best average and at worst embarrassing but you didn't have to go!

We found the holiday extremely good value for money and will certainly visit Tunisia again in a few years time.

We arrived at our hotel after no more than a five minute transfer from the airport which was a very pleasant surprise, especially a most people drive here like crazy people. Scary at first but once you're used to it can be very entertaining.

The entrance to the hotel is very impressive. It is built in a Greek style with pillars and marble floors and is spotlessly clean.

The animation crew were constantly entertaining and lavished attention on anyone willing to join in with activities ranging from daily competitions in darts, table tennis and archery to impromptu football and volleyball matches. They are also very keen on dancing and offer belly dancing and salsa lessons everyday which is great fun so long as you can handle the heat. They are also great with children.

The food here is awesome were where half board and were so impressive by the buffet every night we didn’t contemplate leaving the hotel to eat. The presentation is amazing and the salads are so fresh and well prepared it was almost as satisfying to look at as it was to stuff it down your neck. My advice is to try everything once as you’re guaranteed to like something but for those less adventurous the are many more familiar options.

The staff were friendly beyond reproach with most of them having an excellent grasp of at least 4 languages. However a good basing in French is handy for eavesdropping on conversations around you!!

We didn't really tip much only small change of about a pound but we found being polite and good humoured was worth more to most of them.

The bar service was interesting and if your very thirsty you have to be quite patient as they have a quite European lack of urgency. The work ethic is an education as most of the staff work at least 16 hours a day and are still smiling even if they haven’t had a day off in the last fortnight or so.

The cleaning staff are very conscientious and at all times of the day or night someone can be found sweeping somewhere in the hotel.

The standard of the beach and poolside entertainment was so high that we rarely left the hotel but for two excursions the first was a boat trip from the harbour in Monastir which involved a lot of dancing (they really do love it our here) you could dive of the side of the Spanish style galleon for a swim and go fishing for lunch you eat your catch with fries and salad and fruit for dessert.

The second trip was the tour of three cities visiting the great mosque and carpet factories in Kairouan. It is a lot hotter in land we asked our guide how hot it was whilst we were in one of the mosques he told us it was propabably a little over 40 degrees. Even though you still see the locals dressed for a damp autumn morning. Be careful with you clothes though a few women in our party were wearing low cut vest tops and short neither of which were suitable in the religious centre of this region so be sensible and respect the culture, infact that’s the key to the whole holiday. Be polite because they learn English from age eight so they understand more than you might suspect.

The next stop was the ampetheatre in El Gem you must go here that’s all I'm saying.

We were so sad to leave this country and it was the best time of my life and I can’t wait to go back. With the people here you get what you give.

The Napa Plaza hotel is absolutely beautiful, with modern bright decor, its almost inpossible to believe the location which is right in the centre of the clubbing street!!

Staff were proffesional and friendly. The rooms were superbly clean(if a little on the small side).
The food was great plently of choice at breakfast although dinner could be a bit hit and miss! and the resturant does not seem to cater for vegetarians almost all of the buffet disher were meat.

Entertainment wise the hotel was constantly improving and with a very eager animation team i am sure it wont be long before the season is well underway.

Although overall the hotel was great and we had a wonderful time I would prefer a quieter location and somewhere directly on the beach.

An excellent holiday spoilt by having to wait a week before getting the superior double room with sea view (extra £390.00) and waiting for the wide barrier of smelly rotting sea weed to be removed in order to get into the sea. Take a tip, summer starts after the rainy season in May so be prepared for chilly and variable weather conditions before summertime starts.

After the long wait the room was brilliant and well worth the extra. There are only a few rooms directly facing the sea with wrap around balconies and not all get the sun and some are directly above the kiddies play area.

The airport is just minutes from the front of the hotel and a train line and fairly busy road lay in between. But the noise was never a problem.

The hotel will not disappoint anyone. Not quite Riu standard but getting there. All staff were polite, responsive and always friendly. The attentativeness of staff made up for the mediocre food and sorry to say, more of a canteen than restaurant. Getting from your table to the buffet and back calls for skilled footwork and some determined effort.

French guests greatly outnumbered the Brits but we recognized other languages. The entertainment team worked extremely hard to please everyone. A couple of acts appeared during our two weeks which relieved the monotony.

Getting out and about which we love to do was a non starter. No promenades for evening strolls. You either stay in during the evenings or take a cab, train or bus to Monistir or Sousse. Taking a cab is a white knuckle affair. Driving standards are generally atrocious and some of the cabs were simply dirty old bangers. But getting about was cheap at 6 Dina to Monistair and 10 Dina to Sousse by cab, or 3.7 Dina by train. Buses are cheaper still of course, but take much longer.

We couldn't get Dinas to take with us because Tunisia is a closed currency. We changed £20 to £40 a day at the hotel which was no problem although a better exchange rate could have been got by popping into the airport. You are not allowed to take Dinas out of Tunisia and it is expensive (if not impossible) to change back to Sterling. When departing don't save Dinas for the airport duty free shop as they only take Euros or plastic.

We shall remember our holiday for our trip to the Sahara where we joined a camel trip to chase the sunset. Simply magic and a must however one makes the arduous journey.

But we will not be going back to Tunisia because we like the sun, sea, promenades and that little touch of luxury that makes our holidays a wee bit special. The Thalassa lacked some of our ingredients but don't be put off. We got great tans the second week and we met so many people who love Tunisia and it seems, only ever stay in the Thalassa.

Have just returned from 14 day visit, which unfortunately coincided with French School holidays.

The Hotel was noisy in the extreme, and children were running about freely, and screaming and shouting. The style of the buildings makes for lots of echoing, and in the Dining room we went early for breakfast and dinner.

We found scrambled egg cold or luke warm, and the best option was to queue for an omelette which was made whilst you waited. However, the desserts at dinner were excellent with a good variety of choice.

The Tunisian Night in the Hotel was excellent with a good meal and entertainment. The rooms were spacious and well equipped, although some maintenance work on a Card dated 10/03/05 had not been completed.

The seaweed? was cleared from parts of the beach, but immediately in front of the hotel was about 3 metres and about 1 metres deep. No real effort was made to clear it , but if you walked about 150 metres down the beach you could get in the sea easily.

If you have mobility problems there are no handrails to the indoor pool, jacuzzi or main outside pools.

The hotel is amazing, very airy and clean. The reception area is a really relaxed environment for those times when you just want to sit and chill.

The pool is fantastic, cleaned every day, there is a waiter service around the pool area so you don't even need to leave your lounger for a drink, a smiley waiter just brings you one.

The food is ok if you like trying new things, if you don't you may struggle a bit, but there are always the deserts which are the best I've had.

You will not get better service anywhere else, all the staff are very friendly and very eager to please. The entertainment staff put on some good shows, some a little dated but a good laugh. The mini club was
good and well run.

The only down side to this hotel for us was the location, there is nothing to do or see outside of the hotel unless you want to take a taxi or train. Also if you like a drink in your room there is no supermarket close by that sells alcohol you have to buy it over the bar - Beer about £3.20 + wine about £10 a bottle. My advice is to buy it on the plane on the way out.

All in all we had a fab time and would highly recommend this hotel.

This is a very impressive-looking hotel built in a classical style with a large amount of space around it. The front has a quiet seating area among palms and the back has a huge pool and lots of room both round the pool and on adjacent grassy areas.

No shortage of sun beds, mattresses etc. Immediately outside the pool area is the beach with more sunbeds etc.
Just before we arrived a storm had covered the sea edge of the beach with a thick layer of vegetable material(seaweed? but this was being cleared.

A very well-appointed hotel with good service and lots of space both inside and out.
It is very quiet (except for the occasional aircraft noise) which suited us.

Easy travel into local towns by taxi or, better, by metro train for which the station is only ten minutes walk away.

What a fantastic hotel everyone so friendly. Weather not too bad considering the time of year. Beach kept as clean as possible.

Food excellent compared to other hotels. I was told they have sent 10 of their staff to England to learn about our food I certainly couldn’t cook Tunisian food!

No language barrier most of the staff can speak 4 languages.

Diving school excellent and very cheap.

Resort entertainment is mainly in hotel, but only £2.50 for a taxi into Monastir. Hotel entertainment not so good mainly seasonal from April to October.

Considering what it costs to go to Tunisia compared to Spain or Tenerife it is excellent value for little money and not at all commercialised.

The hotel is tastefully decorated and the rooms are spacious and clean.

The Tunisian Night in the restaurant is excellent with local food, live music and candlight.

The location of the hotel is very good - right on the sandy beach, and within a short taxi ride to Monastir and Sousse. There is also a train service nearby that is cheap and effective.

I am impressed by the friendliness and efficiency of all the hotel staff.

Despite the off-peak season, the entertainment is great in the day as well as in the evening. The entire animation team works very hard to keep guests of all age group entertained.

I would love to revisit the hotel again some time.

We stayed here for a week in November 06, my 2 year old fell on the bus and gashed his head, luckily enough the hotel was only 5 Min's away.

Fantastically impressive entrance and reception. Told them I wanted to go straight to my room to sort out little boy would fill out forms later, fair play was taken straight there no questions.

The hotel was immaculate from top to bottom, the rooms were of a nice size and well equipped, lovely bathroom with hairdryer and shaver points, tv`s in room but English channels very limited, but Dora the explorer in German was an excellent way of introducing them to a new language.

The food was brilliant, plenty of choice and at every evening meal you could have a roast complete with roast potatoes and yorkshires.

The pool`s are amazing just to look at but obviously in November are going to be really cold, but that doesn`t stop a 2 and 1 year old, after about 5 minutes you don't feel the cold, Only had one drizzly day for the week.

The beach is lovely, sea slopes so slowly the kids are really safe and the beach is very clean, sand is more like talcum powder than sand.

The staff are so child friendly you wish you could take them home, kids would dash off when we left to go to breakfast because all the staff seemed so genuinely pleased to see them and give them high fives and swing them around in the air. Even though my kids were to young to go to any of the entertainments one of the animation team would always pop off when ever he saw them and come back with huge bars of chocolate for them and buy them bottles of fanta. I did find it all quite embarrassing, considering he probably earned peanuts. Likewise the cleaning staff would think nothing of spending 15 minutes chasing them around and playing with them.

There was a playground outside with a slide playhouse and see-saw with an patio door which opened into a play room with more toys, but the best thing was we were on ground floor and just lift them over balcony and they have access to all these things that are totally secure. Can't comment on evening entertainment because kids in bed by 8.

I would definitely go back to this hotel even if it was for how much the kids enjoyed themselves. I did find bar staff grumpy but I thought it was because I was asking him to fill a bottle with warm milk every night, but now I`ve read other reviews I realize it`s across the board in Tunisia

Hotel clean, room cleaned everyday to a good standard.
Food not so good - with bouts of dioherroa on more than one day, for all the family.
Location next to the airport, so expect aircraft noise!
Staff friendly but lacking English so difficult to explain needs.
Entertainment and generally all activities winding down in winter. Only complaints to Thomson rep meant something was done.
This is not platinum, far from it. Would not go near this hotel agina

Nice hotel right on a lovely white beach, shallow water so excellent for children.

Breakfast was good with fresh pancakes and omlettes. Lunch at the Barbecue was nice the Brik was very good a poached egg with tuna fried in filo pastry. Evening meal was ok very much cattle market quite a few people push in front of you namely the French kind, if your foods still warm by the time you sit down your lucky.

Desserts were great there are loads to choose from and on a Tuesday night they have a Tunisian Night with loads of small sweets.

Entertainment I did not sample but could hear the birdy song from my room anyway.

Rooms were kept nice and clean with floors washed everyday, tv sockets/powerpoints hanging out beware. Nice size room and good air con.

Would return to Thalassa as a lot of other hotels in the area are not so good. Hotel is Platinum standard for size and facilities, private beach is the only one kept clean in the area.

Food not brilliant could be better, table covers not always clean and lots of flies hanging about.

Lovely looking hotel.

Rooms nice and big and kept clean.

Had room that over looked the pool and could see the sea.

Nice swimming pool area.

Very close to beach. Hotel beach kept clean but beaches in surrounding area dirty.

Hotel near airport but this was not a problem.

Food okay but not platinum standard.

Staff nice.

Down side: Hotel too isolated for us and Thomson sold this hotel to us as a platinum hotel. This in my opinion is NOT a platinum hotel. It lacks the platinum touches.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Thalassa hotel and had a wonderful time.

The hotel was lovely. Big, clean rooms with very good air-con. Towels and bedding were changed daily, and everything tidied up for you on your return from the pool or beach for the day - little extra touches of shaping my nightly into a small fan shape on the bed everyday was very nice, and a fresh rose in the vase everyday as well.

The food we found to be very nice. All buffet type meals, but there was so much choice - ended up having 3 courses every night even though we'd promised ourselves only to have 1 that night !

The BBQ on the beach was good too for lunch, having only gone half board we ate here most days - it was very reasonably priced (about £3.50 for a big pizza and £2.50 for a huge plate of very fresh salad !) And the service was very good as well. We never had a bad meal at either restaurant.

Drinks weren't badly priced - £6.50ish for a nice bottle of wine and about £1.50 for a bottle of beer - just slightly less than home really.

The pool area was great - a huge shaped pool with a pretty little bridge going over to the smaller pool, a large Jacuzzi and a shallow fountain pool for young children.

There were always things for you to do should you so wish - Beach volleyball / Darts / Archery / Mini-golf / Aqua-fit to name but a few, or you could just sit around baking if preferred !

The beach is literally about 15 paces from the side of the pool, and was spotless all the time. The sand felt like you were walking on icing sugar it was that soft, and the water was like stepping into a lovely luke-warm bath - and crystal clear too.

The staff at the hotel were all very helpful and very cheerful people. From the reception staff to the entertainers, the bar-men to the maids, and the added touch of the friendly bar-waiters around from 10am - 12 midnight was very nice too - meant you really could just sit there and relax all day.

The hotel set-out is very luxurious and well worth its place as a Thomson Platinum Hotel.

All in all a very lovely holiday. It’s definitely a place we'll go back to in the future

The hotel was very clean and the staff extremely friendly and helpful, we had a room partly overlooking the wasteland but also with views of the sea.
Although the hotel is near the airport the plane noise was not a problem. The food was good but did tend to get a bit samey towards the end of the holiday. The hotel is right on the beach with plenty of watersports which we all enjoyed especially the kids. The entertainment organised during the day is good, but obviously you do need to participate to get the benefit. The evening entertainment we found to be mediocre. On the whole we had a great time, I would recomend this hotel for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Just got home after spending a week at the Thalassa Monistir In Skanes.

The hotel itself was spot on, modern, very clean, friendly staff in all departments, and efficient daily maid service and 24hr room service with realistic prices to match.

The staff however are a little "anal" about guests bringing drinks, snacks etc in from other outlets, so hide them in your rucksack or the "liquid police" will shoot you!!

The food was great and offered a good choice for all nationalities.

The location however was rubbish! The Thalassa is situated on a dual carriageway directly opposite the airport, and although the noise isnt a problem, one feels a little trapped in the evenings as there is nowhere else to go other than the hotel bar or your hotel room.

Entertainment is provided nightly, but it wasnt up to much in my oppinion, although I've got to admit, my idea of what I call "entertainment" isn't bound to be the same as the person next to me. You can get away in the daytime by way of taxi, which are cheap as chips, and visit the nearby towns of Monistir, Sousse, and Port El Kanotoui which offer a well needed change of scenery.

I had one of the best ever holidays here - the weather was fantastic -the food was brilliant and apart from the fact that the French all get the pool view rooms and the Brits get views over wasteland it was superb. The hotel was spotless, the staff delightfull and polite and my 4 year old daughter loved it. we learnt the 'Halila Daub' dance (and I still remember all the moves) and the evening entertainment was great - they did music and daancing after dinner for the kids and then laid on something different every evening outside by the pool for the adults. I would definately go back again
