We stayed in the self catering part of the hotel, rooms wer kept very clean, maid was lovely leaving flower petals on bed ect. Pools were of a good size although the adult only pool was full of kids and we had the usual race for sunbeds every morning. Pool activities kept the kids entertained with waterpolo, darts french boules ect.
Beach was great fantastic value for money for watersports, nice cafe and plenty of sunbeds.
Enjoyed both Pucca and Piano bars, very different ambience in both so to please everyone.

We have recently returned from a two week stay at the Kanta hotel. I was a bit worried about going after reading some reviews, but I had no need to worry. The hotel was lovely,on our arrival we were given a cold drink and the reception staff were very helpful. we were in a group of 2 families and although we hadn't booked together they sdoon changed rooms so we could have all of the rooms (4 in total ) next door to each other.
The rooms were a very good size and although the beds were on a concrete base they were very comfortable. Rooms were clesned daily and towels changed as requested by throwing them in the bath!
Mini bar, we didn't use this but it was cheap compared to hotels we had been to before.

Food in the hotel was very good. Breakfast typical for foreign countries, some strange things some mornings, donuts! Although I found this strange the kids loved them!!
Evening meals, these were either buffet or waiter service some nights. We prefered the buffet and on the 2nd week of our holidy they only had the buffet, due to the hotel being full.
Food variety and quality was very good, and the waiters in the hotel were really friendly. Drinks at meal times and generally in the hotel were very good prices.

The hotel has two pools, both a good size but one was supposed to be for adults only, which I thought was bad seeing as the travel brochure never said children were not allowed in one of the pools. We still went around this pool as it was a much safer pool, the other one had a concrete edge that was very rough.
Ocassionaly a guard came around and told all the kids to get out(this was usually due to certain british older people complaing about the kid!). After 5 minutes we told the kids to get back in as they were just enjoying THEIR holiday and as a point we had actually paid adult prices so in our opinion they had every right to be in that pool.

The hotel was in a good postion, only a couple of minutes away from the beautiful beach via the hotels Tuc Tuc!The marina and square were only a 5 minute walk away.

The hotel entertainment we can't really comment about as we only went to one of the evenings entertainment, which was ok but nothing to relly rave about!

I would visit the hotel again and although other reviews say that the hotel across the road The Mahaba Palace is nicer I would disagree, we popped in one evening for a drink and asked to look at the rooms and they were small and dark compared to the Kanta.

Hotel Kanta was spotlessly clean. Maid service every day. Rooms were comfortable. Beds are on a concrete platform with two mattresses but are very comfortable indeed.
Hotel rules say no ironing or tea making. The laundry serice is cheap and very good.

Rooms ending in a 9 are larger than most other rooms so you can email the hotel prior to visit and request say 439.
Pool/sea view rooms have wonderful views. Front of hotel have countryside views.

Entertainment.

La Terrasse (at the snack bar by the pool) has entertainment I couldnt fault it at all for adults, it was varied and didnt go on too late. Belly dancing, fakirs, Tunisian nights. only thing was the kiddies entertainment seemed lacking and repetitive.

The Palme D'or bar has good air conditioning and sometimes a pianist plays.

Also a games room, internet access in the Bridge room.

Puca Pub is the Irish bar. If you want to sit in a dark bar all night watching footie or karaoke then this is the place for you.

Games etc going on all day, the water polo is great fun.

Pools
Three pools, one for the toddlers, one for children and adults and one for adults. Only complaint was that for the less confident swimmers, the shallow end wasnt big enough. Water got deep too quickly.

Snack bar.

Keep your receipt!!! My son was accused of not paying for an ice cream. Was a rather unpleasant experience for him and even when I produced the receipt,no apology was forthcoming.

Waiter service round the pool was good depending on who your waiter was. One guy was positively surly, a smile goes a long way, pity he didnt know how to.

Sunbeds and Umbrellas.

Hotel has capacity for 500 odd people, there were 300 odd when we were there. most folks reserve their beds near the pool with the usual up early towel routine.

If youre not down by 9.00 there are plenty of places in the gardens with lots of shade by the trees.

Restaurant and Food.

Breakfast was a rather basic affair if you dont like eggs, beans or yogurt. The cereal looked and tasted like cardboard.

Always boiled eggs available, croissants, pan au chocolate. Some mornings you can have fried egg, scambled and omelette but not all on the same day.

Lots of lovely fruit.

Lunch was always good.

Dinner sometimes buffet/waiter service.

Cant fault the food at all.

Alcohol.

Hotel rules state no alcohol ( or soft drinks/water) to be brought into the hotel This is to encourage you to use the mini bar in the rooms.

On the whole I enjoyed staying at this hotel, people return year after year after year.

If I did return it would be at an earlier time in the year when its not so busy and not so warm.

The Hotel

We stayed at the Kanta Hotel for 4 weeks on a half-board basis in January/February, and generally found it very enjoyable. The Hotel is about 25 years old, so is not as grand looking as some of the newer hotels in the area. It is however well maintained and because it is smaller than some of the others seems to offer a more friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Rooms are a generous size, and bigger than you get in the new hotels. They had a large balcony, and were in a good and well maintained condition. All rooms either face onto the sea with views of the Marina and get sun early in the morning, or face over the front of the hotel and gardens and get sun for most of the afternoon. We chose to have afternoon sun, and not bother with the sea view because it suited us to use the balcony in the afternoons.

At first sight the beds look odd because they are fixed and on a raised concrete base, but we found them to be very comfortable, and because of the base, there was no noise from them at all. The rooms are cleaned daily and bedding changed every few days.

The satellite TV programmes included BBC World, CNN News & BBC Prime, so had enough English speaking channels to get by on.

All rooms had a mini-bar, which was very useful for lots of guest, but in our case we did not want to use it for hotel drinks, so asked for it to be emptied, which the hotel we happy to do, as it meant they did not have to send someone to check it every day. We were then able to keep our own cold snacks and water in it.

The only item missing from the room seemed to be a hairdryer, so you should remember to take one with you.

The Hotel is just 300 yards from the beautiful marina area, which is very modern and has lots of shops and cafes. This whole area around the marina is very clean and tidy, and although not typical Tunisian is very pleasant.

The beach is also close by, and the Kanta has it’s own beach area about 400 yards away, which has it’s own facilities that include a snack bar, showers, bar etc and the hotel puts on a free shuttle service to their own beach in the summer.

Hotel Grounds

The hotel is enclosed within a high wall and has a lovely large enclosed garden area that is well maintained, and in summer will be very useful for providing some shade from the heat. A member of staff is on duty at all times at both entrance gates. They were always very friendly, but the hotel does have a policy of not allow any drinks to be brought in from outside, even bottled water, and this is confiscated at the gate if it is seen. Most people therefore made sure they took drinks in carried in a bag of backpack without any trouble.

There are two full sized outside pools, one for adults only, as well as a children’s small pool and all are well maintained with free sun beds available. As in most hotels, people were going down early putting towels on them.

Around the pool is an outside snack bar selling drinks and simple food such as burgers etc that seemed to be popular during the daytime.

There is also an indoor pool in the grounds, which was fine, together with a gym/heath centre for which a small charge is made.

Food

I have to say the food was a little disappointing at times, although the quality of the food was fine, but there were things missing that we would have expected to be available in a 4* hotel.

Breakfasts had lots of choice on the cold section and also lots of eggs either boiled, fried or in omelettes. There was however no cereals to speak of such as cornflakes, bran, musli, just a local cereal which was not very appetising to look at. Bacon also only seemed to appear about once a week, although there was always a cold meat being served for those who had to have meat for breakfast.

The evening meals were a mixture of a full buffet 3 nights a week, which was fine with lots of choice catering for all tastes including vegetarians. The other 4 nights were part buffet, for the starters and sweet courses, with the main course being one of 4 different dishes, already plated up with vegetables and served by a waiter. We would have preferred full buffet menu every night, which would have given more choice and larger portions.

Entertainments

The entertainment in the hotel was fine for us, although I think it was geared more to guest of our age [50 years old +], and younger people might have found it a little boring. There was a live singer on keyboard 4 nights a week which gave everyone a chance to have a good old singsong, and the other 3 nights had shows either with a belly dancer, folklore dancers or an African Dance group.

We did look in the other hotels in the area to see if anything different was available, because the entertainment was on a weekly cycle and staying there for a month meant it got a bit monotonous, but our hotel seemed to be offering the best entertainment in the area.

The Area Generally
As mentioned earlier, the area directly around the Hotel is very modern and very much what us Brit’s would expect in Spain or other parts of Europe. It is clean and tidy and very nice to wander around, have a snack or just watch the boats going by. This however is not the true Tunisia and for that you need to go into the nearby towns of Sousse ,Hammamet or Monestair, but remember you are in North Africa and not Europe and standards of manner and cleanliness are not the same as at home.

Be prepared to be hassled in the markets and have to barter for everything, as this is the normal way of life in this part of the world. We went into the market area in Sousse [ called the Madina] several times, to see the a bit more of daily life in Tunisia and it was quite an experience!

We had no real problems with this, but if you are not happy with this type of daily life, stay in Port El Kantaoui, or go to the fixed price modern shopping centres now appearing in the major cities and these are more like our shops at home.

There are also some very good golf courses in the area, and it is now becoming an important destination for golfers wanting a short break.

Would we go again? The answer is definitely YES.

The hotel is not perfect, none ever are, but it offers very comfortable and friendly service at a bargain price. We booked through Panorama and had 4 weeks on half-board for around £450 per person in a 4* hotel which is unbeatable value. We did have a few niggles about the food, this might be just down to our individual likes and dislikes, and certainly if the hotel in future decided to go for full buffet meals we would have no complaints about the food at all.

As far as Tunisia is concerned generally we were very interested to see a bit more of the true country and therefore booked the 2 day Sahara Safari which I would really recommend to anyone wanting a true flavour of Tunisia. It was a very packed 2 days away, spending one night in a desert hotel, which was modern clean & tidy, although not up to Kanta standard. The trip was really well worth the £60 each it cost and shows many of the important sites and customs of the county, although it is tiring and not advisable for anyone that is not in reasonable health as we had quite a lot of walking to do over some rough terrain and covered 750 in the 2 days!

Just got back from the Kanta ... before I booked I had read comments from previous returnees -- many liked it, a few slated it ... so we took a chance! All I can say is the award goes to Gary from Aylesbury, he was on the money (read his comments and I totally agree).

Tunisia, like other poor countries, have minimal standards in customer service (outside the hotels of course) and food preparation.

It annoys me that the prices are sooo expensive for what you get inside/outside the hotels. Tunisia isn't geared for children.

I am getting fed up w/ "rip off" Europe for holidays and will start travelling further a field -- Florida, Carribean, Mexico, etc.

if you are thinking of the Kanta and are still going to go ... email me at garym@cnauk.navy.mil to answer any potential questions, i don't mind.

What can we say! Having stayed in many a hotel over recent years and having read reviews here we weren't really sure what to expect.

Having experienced a delay of nearly 6 hours from Bristol airport it must be said the wait was well worth it.

This hotel, whilst quiet (if you have a family) was clean tidy and everything we could want. Good food, clean surrounds and hotel rooms of the highest standard.

The staff could not do any more for you and to say we had to lift a finger would be a lie. Forget the bad reviews here, I don't understand how they could even begin to write them, I guess the only reasons for doing so is that perhaps they are the sausage and chips brigade and that this was not on the menu (although I expect if you ask they would provide it for you)

Food each evening was well worth the wait and always to the highest standard, we have two girls 15 and 13 and even they were highly impressed with the choice and quality, we even observed on more than one occasion a team discreetly inspecting the food and testing it to make sure it was well cooked and up to the highest standards, very reasuring. Our only complaint was breakfast, limited and extremely continental but then again after a night in the piano bar on red wine finished with rum and coke we often didnt make early morning!!!!!! So the fat we required just wasn't available or maybe we just missed it, who knows.

Days around the pool were lazy, no hassle to join in activities and whilst there seemed to be an abundance of palm trees for shade, sun was available all day round providing you were prepared to follow it around. In the height of the season this shade must be a god send as we spent 4-5 hours each day just melting. Two good size pools meant we were able to cool off and a snack bar whilst basic provided us with the strength required each day to carry on sun bathing and just chilling!!!!!

Entertainment was extremely low key, it was low season however the ages of our kids meant that they were happy to sit each evening chat and drink cokes and hot chocolates without the need to be star treking or cha cha sliding.
Staff are so friendly and willing to oblige and the resort rep Allison knows her stuff.

If you have booked to go soon or in the near future go knowing you will have a terrific time and dispell any thoughts impregnated by those with negative comments.

ITS A DELIGHT AND WE THANK YOU KANTA HOTEL

The hotel was clean, we stayed half board and food was always good with plenty of choice so you won't go hungry.

Location was ok close to the marina.

Staff were always there to help we did not tip every time and did not seem a problem, entertainment was ok.

Just returned from a two week holiday at the Kanta hotel. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going.

I have so many good things to say about the place and just would not know where to start so will just give a few key points!

The food was great, loads of choice of well cooked and presented food. The rooms and public areas are spotlessly clean.

The staff are wonderful throughout the hotel, everything is done quickly and efficiently with a beaming smile and everyone is warm and welcoming.

This was our first visit to Tunisia (definitely not our last) and I was amazed at the high level of the standards and services at the Kanta. Especially the relatively low cost of the holiday compared to other destinations.

A few brief words about the area. Much has been said in these reviews about the so called hassle from stall and shop owners.

I found it to be no worse than any other destination, yes you have to haggle a bit about the price if you want to buy something but its all good fun and the guys love a bit of banter!

If you are just looking and dont want to buy you just say no thank you it really is not a big deal!

Anyone going should consider the 2 day desert trip .... its such good value for money and you get to see so much of the country, so much is crammed into the two days its incredible a definite must!

So go to Tunisia .... go to the Kanta and have a fab time!

We stayed at the Kanta Residence which was very nice and had much more room than the Hotel rooms.

However, on 2 occasions I had brown water coming out of the shower and the water didn't drain away very fast.

If you are planning on self-catering to eat in the room this would be a bit difficult as there are only 2 electric rings and no oven or grill, only 2 pans, no toaster or kettle. Luckily I took a travel kettle and didn't intend to do any cooking anyway.

The staff are all very friendly, helpful and polite, including the security guards on the gate.

The gardens that surround the Kanta pools are beautiful, there are plenty of sunloungers and no need to get up early as there were always some available no matter what time you went.
The pools are all large and very clean.

Night time entertainment was very good but not every night was to our taste. We didn't like the drag act or belly dancer but all other nights were great.

We did eat at the snack bar by the main pool on several occasions at lunch time and although there is not a great deal of choice everything was very nice.

From the word go as soon as you land every Tunisian is after some sort of tip. To begin with there was the baggage porter who had your luggage on a trolley to take it to the coach before you knew what was happening. Then there was the porter taking your bags up to the room, the coach driver, the lifeguards helping you sort out a sun lounger first thing in the morning, the bar staff and so the list goes on.

We stayed in the self catering Kanta residence which was on first impressions was not much bigger than a shoebox. To be fair the rooms were cleaned to a good standard and the hotel staff were pleasant enough.

The prices in and around the hotel complex were much inflated from the prices you would pay in the local supermarket/shops 2 minutes walk out of the front gate, for example a can of diet coke in the snack bar was around 2.5 dinars ( about a pound or so ) but in the supermarket it cost less than 1 dinar.

The pool complex and hotel environment were the highlights of a relatively disappointing holiday overall. The biggest disappointments were the food and the local hospitality.

Don't expect a warm welcome anywhere you go. This is not a resort for families with young children ( we had our 7 year old son and our 2 year old daughter with us ). There are no specific childrens dishes and nearly all restaurants don't act like they particularly want your custom let alone cater for your children as well. You find yourself being coaxed inside a restaurant then as soon a you sit down and place your order you are treated like a statistic and not an individual. T

he food is at best poor and don't be surprised to find yourself with bad guts at least once or twice throughout your holiday. Although we went self catering we did try the hotel restaurant and that wasn't much to shout home about. Edible and expensive, yes. Exceptional, not a chance. There was one exception to the rule and that was the " Restaurant Mediterranee " at the marina.

The food was excellent and they bent over backwards to make you feel welcome. Recommended. It's just a shame that of several restaurants we tried that was the only one.

The weather was great and the resort quaint. Entertainment was non existent in the resort at night and the shows at the hotel complex were average and were finished by 11pm. To summarize, make the most of the days around the pool or beach ( which is nice ) because at night there is nothing to do and don't go expecting good food and good company because you won't get it at most places you go to.

Its funny when you read these reports and they say the food was wonderful and they really talk it up. Here is the truth on this hotel ...

This complex is not for families -- all hotels have limited children entertainment (usually a ten minute disco at best) ... for adults. The entertainment is all Tunisian acts and, to be fair, they are bad.

There is a Fun Fair in the square, but it has limited rides -- there are 3 ways to access it, if you go through the fountains square, you will have to go past the shop vendors -- these young adults will grab and harass to get you in the shop, they will lift prams up and kiss ladies hands and hold on to them, even in front of the male partners -- if you say no, you get a back lash of Tunisian verbal -- these people are the worst I have ever encountered!!!

Nobody here is friendly, unless you are buying something, you ARE a commodity and nothing more -- remember that ... if you don't spend or tip, they instantly dislike you.

The beaches could be nice -- but there are fag butts up and down the beach -- I am not joking when I say, these beaches haven't been swept in years. We spent about 30 minutes here and left -- I have two young children (5 and 3) and they kept making sandcastles w/fag butts - you get the idea.

The resort is pretty but third world and El Kantoui is the best of the main resorts -- there is no such word as Hygiene. Flies in the food when they bring it to you and if you want a crepe from a restaurant (they fix them as you walk in) the dough has flies on it -- no thanks!! glasses and plates dirty too -- we ate at the best places, but this was standard procedure.

Weather was great and hotel was great, pools were clean every day -- its the infrastructure that killed it for me.

The food was basic and bland -- no taste, no seasoning, no spice -- I was full board, but we only ate their once a day ... only because we paid for it. The waiters expect tips for serving you drinks for your meal -- all drinks, water, etc. you must pay for separately.

There is a pool cafe which does burger, chips, etc but one or two of the waiter is miserable and shouts at the younger staff -- I called him Black Eyes, as he had black rings around his eyes and was extremely overweight -- smoked a lot then would handle your food while serving you without washing his hands.

The Hotel tries to bleed you dry over the two weeks you are there -- everything is overpriced -- far exceeding what you would pay in England ... from a paper, to a beer, or a bottle of cheap red win. Magon was the guests preferred choice -- it cost 8 quid, but down town it was less than 2 quid -- you can't bring anything into the hotel you see; ice creams were my annoyance -- in the resort, they are 1 dinar which is fair, but in the hotel it was 3 dinar for a basic ice cream on a stick.

I could go and on, but perhaps ... for you, seeing is believing. My summary:

Hotel--Clean but staff want your money and to rip you off.
Entertainment--bring a book; they also repeat the shows every week, so if you are on a two week holiday, you see same show twice or go to another hotel and see same show but w/ different people.

Food--bring a fly swatter!! one couple came back for the second year in a row but took a whole suitcase of food (bacon, cheese, etc.) -- very clever!!!

Water--filthy! The cold water stinks of sewage when having a shower or rinsing a cup and the hot water is brown -- yes bottle water is standard for drinking, but we showered in brown water every day ... mmmmmm.

People--rude, rude, rude. The men fight for your business and will argue amongst themselves a lot if they feel one has cheated the other. Women are 5th class citizens, one women opened a door and man just pushed her out of the way to enter before her with no concern at all. The "nice" men are looking for English girls so they will argue in what i say -- you see them w/ overweight English girls.

Beach--dirty.

Excursions--expensive.

I called the hotel direct and booked my holiday -- very cheap!!! Off season you can get a studio for 20 quid per night (not per person) -- ask for Jette.

I have been on many holidays, all over Europe, and i think the US is the best place to go (other than Florida) -- happy holidays!!!

We stayed at the Kanta Residence for one week at the very start of June 2006.

We arrived very late at night and with two children were delighted that there was 24 hour room service available!

The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the pool area was very safe and well kept. There were always sun loungers available and the rooms were cleaned each day. We did not find tipping a problem as I am aware that the locals are not very well paid and it is well justified in return for the excellent service which we received.

We would recommend it for families/couples looking for a relaxing yet fun holiday.

Our only wish was that we had booked for two weeks instead of one!!

After reading some of the reports on holiday truths I was a bit concerned about going as this was our first time in Tunisia.

I had no concerns when we got there, the hotel staff were excellent nothing was a bother to them.

The food was excellent catering for everyone, private beach was beautiful and again the Kanta staff were so helpful and cheerful.

The room was cleaned on a daily basis and the maid was very nice.

Greatly enjoyed our first visit to Tunisia at the Hotel Kanta in Port el Kantaoui. Attentive and friendly staff throughout, but without being over attentive. The location is ideal, only 5 minutes walk from the beach or the harbour, with a free 'tuk tuk' service to the hotel private beach.

Non smokers beware - the phrase 'do you mind if I smoke' is left in the UK, and there are few non smoking areas.
More of a couples hotel, with no 'kids club' - one of the reasons we booked. Lifeguards are more sunbed attendants, as they do not seem to supervise the pools.
Plenty of space around the pools and on the beach. Even more space if selfish people did not reserve their places for hours on end.

Professionally operated water sports available on the beach.

Special mention to the waiters who work the swimming pools - they walk for miles in very hot conditions, and deserve every tip they get!

Me 21 and my partner 23 stayed here for 2 weeks. I had previously read really nice reviews from both people I know and this website and found it really lived up to them.

Ideal location, staff great, just minutes walk to marina and beach.

The decor was very Arabic in style and we really liked it. You don t come to Tunisia to see european style decoration. There was a small fountain in reception with fresh flowers floating in water everyday. All the hotels we saw seemed to have the same type of mosaics and style. Marble is everywhere in Kanta and other hotels it must be really cheap.

Reception staff very helpful. 25 dinar to hire a safe and you get back 10 dinar in the end. well worth it!

Rooms very spacious and lots of wardrobe space and spotlessly clean. Bathroom and shower very good. Beds in Tunisia seem to be two singles put together. In kanta and desert hotel it was like this.

Mini bar good, put do not disturb sign on the door and you will have no disturbances. Cleaning ladies excellent and really friendly.

Food very good lots of choice. breakfast wide array of choice, croissants, pain au chocolat, danishes, eggs omelettes, cereals, doughnuts, crepes. A lot of choice Orange marmalade was the best I ever tasted. Coffee, tea and 6 types of different juices available. the juices varied from day to day. Really fresh. Lunch OK only did it twice waiter service.

Dinner was very good. starters great, soup delicous. There were 2 buffet nights a week e.g. Italian, Tunisian. Then most other night you were given a choice of four meals and if you didn't want the choice there was a small buffet to choose from instead. You can see the meals before you order which I prefer as I am quite fussy and if there was nothing I wanted I just selected things from buffet. meat was well cooked and hot.

Desserts were really good crepes, cheesecake, Tunisian biscuits, chocolate shaped bunny and elephant cakes, profiteroles, mini doughnuts etc list was endless and changes every night. The hotel caters for British, French, German, Eastern Europeans and Scandinavians. there was always enough food for everyone. You would never starve here!!

Self catering is also available in kanta which is ideal for families. though the hotel was mainly for couples and was very few children and teenagers.

We were in conservatory and non smoking which we really liked. We were set next to a lovely couple from yorkshire. So the seating arrangements worked out for us. You can sit wherever you like for breakfast.

Entertainment every night, belly dancers, African night, Indian night, Karoke etc..

Beach very good. Train called TUK TUK to beach every five minutes outside hotel (Tuk tuk is great experiance in itself ) Sea clean and I did noy see any jellyfish. Beach resteraunt very good.

The best thing about this hotel has to be the beautiful gardens and huge pools. Always loads of sunloungers on both pool and beach. Pool restraunt "les chaumieres" excellent.

there was a disco but no one went and it was the same in many other hotels. Nightlife is very quiet but that didn t bother us. And Irish Bar is opening soon in the Kanta. It should be interesting.

First week was fairly quiet but there was definately more people on the second week as high season is just starting.

Would highly recommend this hotel and resort.

This was my seventh visit to the Hotel Kanta and I have loved each and every holiday there!

The hotel is always spotless as are the pools and surrounding areas. Our rooms were always cleaned to a very high standard and we were given clean towels every day even though we didn't see any maids to tip them until we were leaving on the last day.

All the staff from the receptionists to the guys cleaning the pools every morning are very friendly and make staying in this hotel a real pleasure.

The porters will collect your luggage from the coach when you arrive and by the time you fill in the visitors card they will have taken it to your room. If you arrive in the middle of the night reception will give you the card and ask you to fill it in and bring it back to them in the morning which is better than hanging around to fill it in when all you want to do is sleep!
There is a mini bar in all the rooms, the prices are the same as elsewhere in the hotel, 8TD for rose wine, 1.6TD for water or lemonade and about 2TD for orange juice, sorry i can't remember the beer price but possibly about 4TD.

The food in the main restaraunt is always plentiful and there is always a large selection of salads and hot food for starters, then a good choice of main meals and sooooo many lovely pastries and yummy things for dessert I was stuffed full every night!! Some evenings the main meal is buffet and some nights there is waiter service when you have the choice of 4 meals usually 1 chicken, 1 fish, 1 meat and one vegetarian. The two children with us are very fussy but were usually able to get something to suit them. Theres always plenty of nice fresh bread to choose from too.
If you are half board there is the choice of taking either lunch or dinner in the restaraunt which is good if you want to go out for the evening. On your first evening you will be allocated a table and you sit at that same table every night which gives you a chance to get to know your waiter and most of them are very friendly!
For breakfast in the main restraunt you can choose from toast, cereal, croissants, danish pastries, cream rice, eggs - boiled scrambled or fried, sausages, fried tomatoes and stuff like that. and there is a nice lady who sometimes makes lovely thick pancake type things (try them), doughnuts or omlettes.
The outdoor snack bar serves really nice big pizzas, chicken nuggets, burgers and chips etc. as well as more traditional Tunisian food like Brik, grilled salads and merguez (spicy sausages) until 5pm low season and until about 10pm or 11pm in the high season so even the fussiest eaters couldn't complain and the prices are really very reasonable (5 dinars (£2.50) for a large pizza)
There are waiters who walk around the pool every so often to take orders for drinks, tunisian sandwiches or burgers and chips. we tried to always tip them well as it's got to be very hot for them walking around all day in trousers and jackets!

The pools (2 large outdoor, 2 small outdoor kids ones and a nice warm indoor one) are always very clean but the water in the outdoor ones is cold, which is not nice in the winter months but lovely in the summer for cooling down!!
There are always plenty of sunbeds for everyone and the mattresses and parasols are free, the guys who look after the pool area will bring you the mattresses when you come out in the morning so we usually gave them a couple of dinars for doing this as there was 6 of us and after a couple of days they had saved the 6 beds before we even came out every morning.
There is also plenty of natural shade from palm tress if you prefer to sit in the shade rather than roasting all day like me!!

There is a money changing facility in the hotel reception which is open 23 hrs a day, as the exchange rate in Tunisia is controlled by the government you don't need to go looking for anywhere with a better rate.

I didn't use the gym or try any of the massages but my mum had a massage the last time we were there (July05) and said she really enjoyed it.

The hotel is about 800m from the Kanta beach but there is a free shuttle service every day from morning until 5pm for those who don't like the idea of walking far in the heat. The beach is cleaned regularly and again the matresses are free and there is a man who will put them out for you. There is also a snack bar, showers and toilets for use of Kanta guests. The snack bar serves mostly the same as the one by the pool, pizzas etc.
There are also watersports for hire on the beach like pedalos, wind surfing, banana boat, paracending, jet skis etc.
The marina is a lovely 10min walk along the beach.

The hotel is only a short walk from the shops and restraunts in the port and fountain area, there is a large supermarket close by for anyone who is self- catering to buy bottled water and some food. They do not allow guests on half or full board to bring any food or drink into the hotel so if you do make sure it is well hidden!

There is activities by or in the pool most days, water aerobics, polo, darts and bowls are just a few, they also have some divers who visit 2 mornings a week to give try dives in the pool.

There is a disco where they have the entertainment most nights in winter. In the summer the disco is open but the entertainment is out on the terrace bar by the pool.

The rooms don't have hair dryers so bring your own!! There is plenty of wardrobe space but if you use a lot of hangers you may want to bring some extra.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a nice relaxing holiday with good food and friendly service in beautiful surroundings.

The hotel was very clean with excellent service.

It had 24 hour reception where you could change money, it also had a cash machine which came in handy.

There was a wide selection of food.

The beach and resort centre where just a short walk away.

The entertainment was good, though the nightclub was not open every night.

The staff where fanastic.

I would stay at the Kanta again, in fact I wish I was still there, instead of working.

We travelled to the Kanta hotel which we were very pleased.

Centrally located and all the locals were very friendly and always remembered you when you were passing them.

Muckta was one of the main waiters he was brilliant and very helpful. Our daughter is very picky in her food and he got her what she wanted every night...Thank you Mukta.

The harbour area is beautiful and very clean also the waterfall in the middle of the shopping area, we met some nice friends there.

The animation team was really good as well the only thing there was more entertainment for adults than for the kids. The entertainment at night was good but finished to early.

The buffet night is really good you get 19 courses in all wouldn't think twice about going back to Tunisa and would stay in the kanta again.

One experience we did have was a sand storm it was magnificent you would never believe it unless you see it its unbelievable

We went self catering but soon changed to half board when we heard how good the meals were. The choices were brilliant some thing for everyone, never had that much choice anywhere I have been.

Hotel and residence very clean maid service everyday. Staff were very good nothing was too much trouble, they will not even let you carry your own mattresses for the sun loungers.

The only entertainment we watched were the African dancing which were brilliant, and the magic show which the kids enjoyed, we did see the belly dancing but didn’t think much about it.

The location to the beach could not be better about 5 mins in a tuk tuk which is free and runs every 15 mins, it is also only 5 minutes walk to the marina.

We have never been to a hotel so nice so clean and so friendly before. We have already booked to go back next year and we can’t wait.

We have just returned from the Kanta Hotel where we enjoyed a most relaxing experience in beautiful surroundings.

The Kanta Hotel is perfectly situated in this very pleasant resort,it is scrupulously clean, staff are genuinely warm and welcoming, food is excellent, endless in variety and portions that will leave no-one hungry.

The Kanta has gardens filled with endless flowers and many quiet corners where you can read or just enjoy the scorching sun.

We would definately recommend this as a must for anyone seeking a place to unwind!

Kanta Hotel is one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. It has lovely grounds, 3 well kept outdoor pools and friendly staff.

The evening belly dancing entertainment was in our opinion dire and we are glad we didn't pay for the entertainment. We didn't go to PEK for the evening entertainment anyway so this didn't really bother us that much.

We didn't get bothered by any maids at early hours of the morning and the room was cleaned on a daily basis with clean towels.

The staff were really friendly and although their english is quite bad they did try their best to help you as much as they possibly could.

The food was really nice and lots on offer. It was nice to be half board and it was really good that you could either have lunch or dinner. One day we did lunch the next day we went on a tour to Tunis and weren't back for lunch so we opted for dinner which was a lovely Italian buffet with pizza, lasagne, spag bol etc etc on offer. Lots of bread, fruit and puddings on offer too.

They also have a cheap brassiere on the grounds which looked like a top class restaurant at first but was actually a cheap "diner" with a very funny manager who offered to belly dance for us! hehe

All in all a great hotel :-)

We returned from the Kanta last Week normally when visiting PEK we book the Marhaba Palace but unfortunately that was fully booked so after reading so many reviews for the Kanta in the past I decided to give this Hotel a try, bear in mind I am writing my report after several visits to different Hotels in Tunisia and had this been my first impression of a Tunisian Hotel maybe I would have been more impressed.

The room was nice and bright, well maintained and clean although one bad point the base to the bed was actually concrete in the form of a platform with two single mattress's on, (bed quite hard) and on one side of the bed there the platform extended on to a lower level with a step down at the end of the bed, I tripped over this step (in the dark) after going to the loo in the Night forgetting it was there on the 1st Night, and again one Morning jumped out of bed to answer the tapping on the door half asleep and nearly broke my ankle, speaking to other Guests they had also had problems it is quite dangerous until you get used to it.

The tapping on the door early in the Morning usually around 8am was from the Staff wanting to check if you had used your 'mini bar' which we found a bit of a nuisance as we were on Hol's and didn't want to be woken or in fact have to answer the door at that time of Day, a couple we spoke to that were there for three weeks said it happened to them every Morning around 8am and they were fed up with it, we solved the problem by putting the chain on the door and ignoring the tapping, the other couple said they couldn't do that as they had no chain, one other problem we had regarding being woken up was the lift and stairs were right next door to the room (425) so again very noisy from early with other guests going to breakfast from very very early.

The main Reception area of the Hotel was OK with entertainment on 5 Evenings out of the 7, also there was extra entertainment in the Disco some Evenings African Show, Belly Dancer etc. in the Reception area you had to be there fairly early to get a seat as it got very busy later, one Evening we ended up going to our room as there was nowhere to sit, the Reception area was divided into smoking and no smoking, which as non smokers we quite liked.

Restaurant and food, good choice of starters soup, salad etc. most meals the main course was served by the Waiter so we usually had soup and then got a plate of salad to have with the main meal, desserts were good too all in all we couldn't fault the quality of the food and it was always nice and hot.
The only thing that spoiled the Restaurant for us was that we were in the conservatory extension and although it was Feb and cold out it was red hot in there we did ask for the heating to be turned down which the Waiter did, I usually am cold but even I was boiling and wore just a t-shirt and trousers or skirt to go for meals, so some of the nicer clothes I took got left in the wardrobe it was so hot in there that one Night we left our meal as it made my Husband feel ill, on the last Night rather than eat in there we went to the Brassiere and paid for an Evening meal at a cost of around £18 for two of us for soup and a very small plate of steak and chips, the steak however was very good and it was much cooler in the Brassiere.

Room service was good as there are no kettles allowed in the rooms we often ordered a pot of tea in a Morning it was brought to us within minutes, and the hot chocolate is delicious we had one most Afternoons on returning to our room, the room service Waiters are very very obliging we wanted something for lunch one day, and the menu for this service has limited times for certain food, it was raining outside so we couldn't use the outside snack bar and didn't fancy a meal in the Brassiere so we asked if we could have the earlier menu of bacon and eggs, no problem even though this was listed as only available up to 11.30 am. we later found out that you could also order baguettes in the Reception area.

Indoor pool was OK and quite warm early in the week, although I felt the area around it to be cold and unwelcoming unlike other Tunisian Hotels we have stayed in, concrete rather than tiles around the pool etc although there were some sunbeds we never used them.

Massage centre was one of the worst and most disappointing I have ever used in Tunisia we booked to go together at 4pm the lady on Reception could hardly speak any English, but booked us in at the same time, when we arrived she informed my Husband that he would have to wait half an hour, (after a little help with translation from the security man on the gate) my Husband decided to leave it,so went back to the room. The Lady took me into a side room not that warm in there although she darkened the room and lit a candle, and put on some music and proceeded with the massage after a few minutes what sounded like a drill went off it turned out to be her mobile phone vibrating in the wooden cupboard which she got out and answered after about a 4 minute conversation she said 'sorry' and continued with the massage, which after around another 5 minutes she left off once more to answer the main phone on Reception on returning guess what she did checked her mobile once more to see if she had any texts, relaxing not and at a cost of £20 I didn't bother again.

The outside pool looked quite nice and surrounded by lovely gardens it was too cold for us to use in Feb, although we did use the Sunbeds a couple of times early in the week before the weather changed, outside snack bar was fine too.

Maids came every day to clean room, again OK but not the best I have ever had in Tunisia and to be honest we didn't tip quite as much at the end of the week as we would normally do a couple of areas in the room (glass shelf above mini bar) were left dusty all week, but we did get clean towels and sheets every day.

As I said before I am writing this review as a regular visitor to Tunisia and although I have said no I would not re-visit this Hotel that is only because we have had better Holidays in the Marhaba Palace across the road, I found myself gazing across there from my room, wishing I was staying there, for anyone who hasn't visited Tunisia before I am sure you would enjoy your stay at the Kanta and the Location is ideal right in the centre, and not at all noisy, one point there if you go to bed early you can hear the band in the room up until about 11pm so the higher the room the better.

It was our second stay there and are just arranging our third in April for our 25th wedding anniversary and can't wait to go.

The hotel grounds are so well looked after and it is so easy to get to all places from here. We hope to go again for Christmas this year if all goes well.

We would recommed this hotel to anyone who like a good clean and quiet hotel.

The hotel itself is quite nice and the rooms are very pleasant.

The hotel grounds are very nice and well maintained.
But..........

The food was absolutely disgusting for a 4 star hotel.
Each evening a table was put outside the dining hall and a choice of 4 meals were put on display for you to select when you were seated. If you did not like any of those that was your lot! And without a word of a lie you could get better meals in a motorway service station..........it was that bad.

Breakfast was much the same literally.....the night before leftovers were heated up and put on display. A word of warning......if you don’t like eggs then there is very little else to choose from, and what there is not worth having.

We were appalled by the food served up at this hotel.........such a shame because the hotel itself was quite nice.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The food was amazing. Even if you had the slightest strange eating habit, I'm sure you'd be catered for.

The grounds are beautiful and when you walk through them in the evening, the scent from the flowers is like smelling perfume!

Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, it is brilliant!!

I thought the Kanta was great!

Went with my parents (60, 56 and me 30) so we had 2 rooms and mine was a very very good size. It was my first time here but parents 3rd so some staff did recognise them.

It was mid September so the weather was warm but not baking (very nice actually). We were amused by the day time entertainment people who were funny and joined in with their games in the mornings and afternoons. (well you have to dont you? I get bored laying on the sunbed all day and its fun speaking with the other guests) We had one rainy day so I just used the hotel gym and the inside swimming pool.

The food I thought was very very good. There was plenty of it and the waiters/chefs were always asking if you were happy and if you had not of liked something Im sure they would have offered to provide you with an alternative (I was always happy with whatever was there!) Had some nice lunches at the pool snack bar which were tasty. Just general snack items but I thought quite reasonable and presented nicely. Had some Tunisian Egg thing a couple of times but cant for the life of me remember exactly what it was?

The bar near reception was very smart but I did think the prices were slightly on the expensive side.

The staff were very good. Reception soon got to know you and we had good banter with one of the chaps who used to change our money. He used to see us coming and rush to serve us even though we did used to really tease him!

The hotel had a tuk tuk to the beach which was very lazy but fun to do and saved my poor legs after a hard day of doing nothing! :-)

The tiles in my bathroom made me laugh as they made my eyes go funny! Very Tunisian but cool! (floor to ceiling and very in your face!)

After 5 drop offs to other hotels it was our turn to step off the coach and see where we were staying for the next 2 weeks.

Being honest I have to say at first we were all a little disheartened when we got to the Kanta residence reception, as we had previously watched others being dropped off outside very grand, very impressive hotels with huge marble pillars and over sized vases.

We found ourselves standing in a very small reception area but it was very clean had comfy seats and a chap behind the desk with a very friendly smile. we filled out a small form each (details of where we live, date of birth and passport number ect) we were then shown to our rooms. Two porters to hand, wheeling the cases, we walked through an open corridor with rooms on one side and what I would describe as small tropical gardens in the middle. First impressions of our self catering room were good.

They were big enough for myself my husband and 2 children, very clean had everything you need for a self catering holiday(fridge, two ring hob, air con, bath, shower, table chairs ect...) While I sorted the kids out my husband went to buy some water and change some money as we didn’t have time to change any in the airport. 10 minutes later he was back smiling saying how nice the pool looks and how grand the main hotel reception is.

We were on the ground floor which was good for us as we have a 2 year old who would have loved throwing things off a balcony!

What can I say about the grounds? They are beautiful, very well maintained. The playground is right next to the children’s pool which meant we could sun bathe and watch the children play, great stuff.

I can not say a bad thing about our stay at the Kanta Residence. The staff are so friendly, the food is good, the entertainment at night is kiwi. Really enjoyed the magician, belly dancer and the African dancer’s, oh and the man that lies on a bed of nails. The hotel band could do with up dating their music but they were pleasant enough.

The hotel has a free Tuc Tuc which takes you to the beach and back which was handy because otherwise it is a long walk when it's 35 degrees.

At the private sector of the beach the Kanta has a great snack bar and also showers and toilets, free sunbeds and parasols. Oh and I must mention they also had lots of half cut tomatoes laid along the shore, why? Well unfortunately the sea was rife with jelly fish, they were only small but there were a lot of them and apparently if you are stung rubbing wet sand or a tomato on the sting relieves it. My nephew who was only paddling got stung and I have to say he looked like he was in some pain for about an hour, the bar staff were great though, they came to hand with tomatoes galour. Because of the jelly fish we only went to the beach twice, we spent most of the time around the pool.

Twice a day my husband and older son played water polo with the other guests, every one around the pool would sit up and watch as some of the games became quite funny.

We have said we would definitely go to the Kanta again but next time stay in the hotel as the food looked awesome in the main resturant. As residenets we were allowed to use the main restaurant but decided not to because we were in a big group with 2 very noisy 2 year olds and it looked so nice and quiet in there we didn’t want to disturb the other guests!!!

Next to the indoor pool is a gym and also where you go for a massage, my husband had a full body massage and said it was great very relaxing. There is internet access in the main hotel we didn’t use it but spoke to someone who did and he said it was ok but very slow, but it was nice to know we could e-mail if we needed to.

There's a shop in the main hotel which sells English papers, they are 2 days behind but that didn’t bother us, they also sell some nice gifts.

If you want a taxi to go somewhere out of Pek then ask the bellboy at the front of the main hotel and he will phone one to pick you just give him a tip!

Also at the front is a free crazy golf, which the kids loved.

I haven’t mentioned that the rooms are cleaned daily, the maid even washed our pots and put them away, she made the beds(with clean sheets) swept and mopped the floors, cleaned the toilet and bath room and always made sure there were two toilet rolls for us!

Over all our stay was brilliant, we are so glad we decided to stay at the Kanta, infact, if it wasn’t for this site we probably wouldn’t have booked there!

I stayed at Kanta Residence in the August of 2004. I Had a terrific time.

The apartments were nice a clean everyday when the cleaners had finished and the cleaners were very pleasant. I had breakfast a couple of times in the main hotel. It was very nice and very Tunisian style which was different... but nice.

The complex gardens are presented very nicely with many beautiful tall palm trees, very well cared for.

The pool is very clean also. The hotel staff are very nice people, especially a man called Figo who arranged the water polo and water aerobics through the day. The entertainment was good. There is an act outside at the pool bar most nights. At night there is also a disco above the brasserie which was good fun for all ages.

I will definitely visit this hotel again in the future and recommend Kanta Hotel/Residence to everyone!!!!

Had a fantastic time at this hotel the staff are very friendly and the rooms we found were kept to a very high standard. The restaurant catered for all ages if the children did not like the menu they cooked other things for them. It is situated in a great location 5 minutes walk away from everything would definately recommend this hotel!

Just returned from kanta residence. first week very disappointed with the allocated room in the residence. relocated to a refurbished room for 2nd week which was excellent. staff are very friendly & can't do enough for you. food is ok but you do seem to get fed up of the same thing after a while. Entertainment leaves room for improvement. Dino & Figo do a very good job of daytime entertainment but there needs to be more to keep the kids entertained & the night time entertainment coul be better. i hope this review does not come across to negative s the kanta is a very good hotel & the pools & grounds & staff are excellent. the transport to the beach is graet fun i just think the room we had for the first week put a dampener on things

Have just returned from Hotel Kanta, Tunisia (24/7/04) following a one week stay. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hotel was fantastic. Very clean (maids were very good, in every day).

We both enjoyed the food. A very big range of food available. Very nice.

Great location. Very central to the Marina.

All hotel staff extremely helpful and friendly. Very nice people.

Enjoyed the entertainment very much - strong man show, discos, Kanta band etc.

Would highly recommend this hotel.

We have been to the Kanata seven times now and are returning in November for a week. We will also be going next June.

The hotel is immaculate, the food is very good, and the facilities are excellent. The main reason we return is the staff. We are assured of a warm welcome from the director to the chamber maids. We have become good friends with a member of the staff and we look forward to returning.

We visited the Kanta at the beginning of June 04 and this was our third visit. The hotel is fantastic, everthing from the pool areas, the beautifully attended gardens, genuinely friendly staff and the beach.

We would have no hesitation in returning to the Kanta where over the years we have made friends with both holidaymakers and the staff.

Close to the Marina it is ideal to pop down to barter with the shop owners for your leather goods etc where you'll pick up a bargain or two.

The marina is gorgeous and you can look in envy at some of the yachts.

Food in the hotel is to a high standard and you can choose from the buffet breakfast and then either lunch or dinner.

Entertainment is provided in the bar area and then themed nights in the disco in the evenings. Ok but you are welcome in any of the other hotels if you want to vary the entertainment.

Rooms are an excellent size and have plenty room for your clothes, loads of wardrobe space. If you can, ask for a pool view, here you will have a sea view - lovely!

All staff from maids to bell boys, managers to entertainment staff are coureteous and many in our country could learn a thing or two from them.

Plenty to keep you going during the day if you want from water aerobics, water polo, darts, french bowls, table tennis etc etc.

As there are a couple of pools and the spacious garden areas there is plenty of room for everyone whether you want to mingle with others or to be hidden away.

There is an indoor pool and there is a salon where you can get a massage. Very relaxing.

Can't recommend this hotel enough. We'll be back!!!

Had a two week stay at the Kanta and was not disappointed at all. This was our second visit and the staff still remembered us from last year and again went out of their way to make our stay so enjoyable.
Our room was kept spotless by the maid and we tipped her well as a thankyou, the food once again was excellen, very well presented and always fresh.
Would recommend a room with pool view, lovely to wake up with the sun shining in your room and when the sun moves round during the day the room is nice and cool at the end of the day. As for all the staff at the Kanta i cannot fault them in any way at all.
The only complaint i have really is that the entertainment at the hotel is very limited and repetative, the Kanta band are their in the lounge area six nights a week and found we got a bit bored with them. Still, we enjoyed our stay so much again that we are returning in September for eleven nights.
