| said: We spent one night at the Alton Towers Hotel in May 2007. The hotel is situated not far from the main gates of Alton Towers and is joined to the adjacent Splash Landings hotel and water park by a long corridor. We arrived about an hour before the stated check in time but were allowed straight into our room. We were told at this point that they were experiencing some boiler trouble and that they would move us to Splash Landings if we could not get hot water in our room (it turned out we were able to at this point). Our room was booked for 4 adults and we had chosen a room with one double bed and two singles. The double bed was a bit uneven but the single beds were rather uncomfortable and barely long enough for an adult. The room itself was of a similar size and specification to a Travelodge, although at twice the price. The wallpaper and carpet fitted in with the ‘Around the World in 80 days’ theme of the hotel, but other than that it was nothing special. The public areas of the hotel are more impressive though.
After dumping our bags in the room, we went straight down to the water park. We had to bring our own towels and a pound coin for the lockers. The water park itself was not as big as I had expected (in comparison with Center Parcs) but there were a lot of different things to do. It was too rainy and cold for us to make much use of the outdoor pools but we did have quite a few goes on the indoor slides (apart from the Flash Floods which were closed). The Master Blaster was quite an experience – you have to queue for quite a while to get a tube for this and then also queue for the ride itself but it’s worth it. Just remember to keep your legs in and your bum off the floor – I wouldn’t recommend it for nervous swimmers though. The Wacky Waterworks Tree house is also good fun as it gives you numerous ways to soak unsuspecting passers-by as well as your friends and family. We weren’t as impressed with the Lazy River as it took ages to get a tube to use it, and then you had to work quite hard to not get stuck under the various water jets. I think we spent nearly 3hrs in there and only left when the park was due to close. It was much quieter after 4pm and we therefore had more time on the rides after then. There are lots of signs up saying that you shouldn’t bring in your own food, but nothing explaining why. Given the extortionate prices, it’s not surprising that some people prefer to take their own.
Other items in the hotel were also massively overpriced – it was £5 for a large glass of wine and nearly £20 for a buffet meal in the restaurant. We chose instead to go into Alton for dinner and had some lovely wood oven-baked pizzas in a pub called the White Hart which is on the High Street. It was quiet when we went but you would definitely need to book a table anywhere in Alton during peak season. The food in the hotel did smell nice (we had a fire alarm and were evacuated to Splash Landings) but the price was just too high. We took wine with us in a cool bag to drink in the room after dinner to save money as well (and also to avoid the entertainment).
The next morning, we awoke to find that we had no hot water – but at least the weather had dried up. There was a note pushed under our door to say we could use the communal showers in the water park if we wanted to, but we decided to manage without. We had breakfast in our hotel which was a buffet with a good selection of hot and cold items. We made sure we ate as much as we could before checking out of our room and heading to the theme park via the woodland walkway. This was a surprisingly long walk – about 15 mins and therefore potentially not suitable for families with young children or those with walking difficulties. Nemesis, Air and Blade were open to hotel guests only for an hour before the advertised start time so we were able to go straight on them all without queuing.

Very warm and clean. Really enjoyable the children loved every minute but our excitement was short lived. We went to our room which was a family room the room was clean and comfortable, but we had no hot water for the duration of our stay and after travelling 250 miles with two children and we could not have a bath was very disappointing and when we complained, we were told we could check out if we wished(and travel home 250 miles not a thrilling thought after paying £240 for one night stay)!!
We definately as a family would not go back we would rather pay £50 to stay in a travel lodge near by and visit the water park for the day.

| said: I stayed in this hotel on Monday 02/05/05 for 1 night with my boyfriend and another couple. We actually stayed in the Splash Landings Hotel which is more informal and relaxed than the original Alton Towers Hotel and is newer. Both are connected by a walkway through the water park.
The room was a family room with a double bed which was comfy and bunk-beds which were quite slim although suitable for children. There was a dresser and drawers etc as well as a clothes rail. Toiletries were provided in the bathroom. The shower in the bathroom was extremely powerful.
Please note no hairdryer available.
We had our evening meal at the Secret Gardens restaurant in the original Alton Towers Hotel and everybody in our group thought it was lovely. Two had steak which was cooked to perfection, one had catch of the day which was salmon with noodles etc and one had burger and chips. All had soup (leek and potato) for starters which was delicious. We all thought the food here was very good value for money.
We had our breakfast at our own hotel and that was adequate with plenty of choice.
Entertainment is geared towards children and although we are adults it was still enjoyable. We used the bars in both hotels. Last orders were 11.30pm in the Ma Garita cocktail bar.
We paid £207 per couple and that included theme park entrance with early access and entrance to the water park on both days. I did price up for the local travel lodge and then paying for everything separate and there was not a huge difference so thought it would be nice to splash out.
In the morning we took the Woodland Walk to the theme park which takes about 15 minutes and is quite pleasant and brings you right out at Air and Nemesis where you have time to go on the rides before the Park opens.
All in all I was very pleased with both hotels. We had a great time and would not hesitate to return again!

| said: just had a brilliant weekend at this hotel - so thought would share with you...
right next door to the splash landings hotel, the Alton towers hotel is the more 'elegant' of the two whilst the splash is more 'themed'.
rooms very comfortable - double bed, bunk beds, tea/coffee, hair dryer, tv (some sat channels).
free entry into the cariba springs waterpark which is situated between the hotels and you can walk across from one to the other without going outside!
Waterpark very good - not as big as many but plenty to do for an hour or so, very warm - includes indoor and outdoor slides.
Restaurant - the Secret Garden in the Alton Towers hotel, a bit pricey but very large portions - so big I couldn't eat. We much preferred the buffet style in the Splash Landings hotel - far more choice and eat as much as you like.
Breakfast has to be taken in your own hotel, this was a full english plus all the usual yoghurts, fruit, toast, danish, cereals, etc., etc., strange looking scrambled eggs though - no fried eggs as far as I am aware. Brekky comes on a skillet and put in the middle of the table and you help yourselves.
Characters wandering around the hotels frequently - very disney like but very nicely done.
All hotel staff seem to say hello to you as you walk around - very pleasant.
Grounds of hotel are beautiful - took loads of photos.
Entertainment in the evening in Alton Towers Hotel very good - treasure hunt, magic show etc., for children, Mr & Mrs and that sort of thing for adults.
Only thing is - but what else can you expect - lots of banging doors - wish they would put those things on that make the doors shut a bit more quietly!!
And on to the theme park...........
as a part of our stay we booked tickets for the theme park at reception - this entitled us to early entry to the park - although only two rides open at this time are Air and Nemesis - both of which my two boys can't go on because they are too small - so we spent an hour walking around a theme park which had nothing open at all - not even to get a drink!!! Very sore point because it was a bit chilly and nowhere to warm up.
However, on the positive side, our tickets gave us priority access to some of the rides, which meant going in the exit and avoiding the queues - we also did 'baby swap' for those rides which Spencer didn't want to go on or he was too short - saved queueing up.
Another however...... it appears that some people had vouchers e.g. Tesco for reduced ticket prices. There were some arguments in the reception because these must be redeemed at the main park gates and will not give you any of the early access or priority ride benefits. People were not happy about that.
Another however, the park is not supposed to open to the public until 10 but it does often open earlier - although the rides aren't open (apart from the two above) but you can get in the queues for the other rides.
We were absolutely knackered after walking around - it is exhausting but one day was plenty for us to do all we wanted to do. The park shut at 5.00pm. Plenty of places to eat/drink - mcd's , pizza hut, kfc, doughnuts, fish and chips etc., etc.
All in all a brilliant weekend. Highly recommended.

| said: This is a fabulous hotel and would recommend it to any one. I would say though if you are not taking children I would go mid week out of season as the price difference is a lot, and the park is quieter. Also my only bad comment about the hotel is that although it is aimed a family's I felt they should have a bar away from all the entertainment and children where adults could unwind and relax after walking round the park all day. Cariba Creek is fantastic, really hot and the slides and spa pools were great. I enjoyed this so much I have booked in again for another 2 nights this year
