| said: We have just returned from Centre Parcs Sherwood Forest after spending a week there over the christmas period.
Unfortunately, because my son booked the holiday only a few weeks before christmas, the 3-bedroomed Comfort villa, which was the only one available, was a little cramped. The children are 27 months and 14 months and both needing cots, so an extra bedroom would have been most useful.
On the whole the villa looked clean, however, the furniture could have been moved to vacuum behind.
The villa was well appointed and had everything we needed -fridge, cooker, micro-wave and toaster. There was ample cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.
The Parc Market was certainly well-stocked, although we had taken most of our groceries with us. We pre-booked our christmas lunch at Hugo's which was superb. Every attention was paid to making it a grand occasion.
My son and daughter-in-law had meals at both the Cafe Rouge and Hucklebury's which they thoroughly enjoyed.
To summarise, Centre Parcs have created a wonderful holiday experience for the family and are to be highly commended. It is expensive, but on the whole it is worth it. However, I do feel that the management committee are out for every penny they can get.
Having paid not an inconsiderable sum to get into the site I would have thought that, once on site, the charges for individual 'events' could be kept at a more reasonable level.

The villas were clean and spacious inside and containing everything you need.
The kids had great fun, were always on there feet having fun.
As i am a relaxing person it also suited me as i could take a stroll down to the beach or go to the spa and relax.
My husband enjoyed every part of it too and was kept on his toes with the kids requests to play football or go a cycle.
Well we have now booked the holiday again for october the whole family is excited and raring to go!

| said: Having just returned from Centre Parcs I felt I just had to warn all dog owner/lovers who are thinking of taking there pet with them - don't. It is cruel for a dog to have all that space and woodland to run and explore and not be able to.
Considering the cost of taking a dog the park, they should supply an area where they can run off the lead as well as the pokey toilet areas that are full of dog excrement because there are no dog bins provided.
To sum up if they don't want dogs at the parks they should say no dogs allowed instead of charging people!

| said: My family stayed at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest for the weekend of 10-13 November 2006. My children, aged just 20 months and 5 months at the time, were infected with cryptosporidium during our stay. This is a serious issue; a parasite infection which damages the stomach lining. Our kids have since suffered from vomiting, diarrhoea, serious weight loss and lactose intolerance and are still not fully recovered.
An investigation by the BBC discovered that there were 30 confirmed cases of cryptosporidium at Center Parcs from this time. This report can be found on the BBC East Midlands news website.
Newark & Sherwood Council Public Health dept is currently undertaking an investigation into Center Parcs. Center Parcs has confirmed that there was a problem with the water filtration system at the 'Sub-Tropical Swimming Paradise' at this time.

The location was near the Aqua Sana.
The villa was unreal, it had its own sauna, and very spacious. The maid service was great, and they were very friendly.
The prices remain high, for accomdation and activities. There are some good value cheap options which we enjoyed - Woodland awakening, pentaque, bowling, etc.
The new grand cascade was dissapointing, but something new to try.
Once again we had a great holiday, action packed, with not a bad word to be said about the resort.

| said: Sherwood was the first Center Parcs to open in UK, in 1987. Now they have 4, they have an appeal pending for their 5th parc at Warren Woods in the SE. The initial application was just refused.
we love CP we have been to all 4 UK parcs and DeEemhof once in Holland. Longleadt is the most beautiful, Sherwood next, then Elveden -long drive, and last Whinefell, ex Oasis. The latter was built and run by Rank prior to CP buying site a few years ago. WF has some improvements to go, needs much more forest and nature walks etc.
If you love CP please write their CEO Martin Dalby, this week, as appeal pending, to support the appeal process for Warren Woods. The more guests support the application the more chance the appeal will pass. Thenwe get a 5th UK parc within 2 yrs.
Kids love CP, it is safe, quiet, and not at all like Butlins or similar. There is NO CLUB HOUSE, no huge arcade. Just piece and quiet, unless you want the activities at the Sports Centre or treatments at the Spa. You do have to pay for quality though.

| said: Just back from Sherwood Forest and all had a great time.
I stayed in a 3 bed Executive villa with my wife, 2 kids (6 and 2) and my parents.
On arrival we was processed at the arrivals lodge within 2 minutes and told the gate was open and we could go direct to the villa and unload the luggage.Once unloaded we took the car back to the main car park and then hired cycles for the weekend.
The villa was a single story terraced building that was cladded in wood.Inside was the open plan living area with 2 x 3 seater sofas, a dining table and the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with small fridge, oven.grill/hob,microwave and dishwasher. All cutlery and crockery is supplied. The daily maid service brings dishwasher tablets and tea towels as required. There was also a lovely stove in the lounge which uses special logs that you get from the supermarket and each last for about 3 hours.
The bedrooms all had ensuites with showers over baths and one had a spa bath. The showers were actually very powerfull. You also get hairdryers,tv's in each room and a sauna accessed from outside. It was very clean on arrival and the daily maid service did any washing up and bed making etc.I felt it did lack the wow factor I was expected for an executive level, with 2 comfort levels below it did leave me feeling a slight disappointment.
Once settled in we rode around the site to familiarise ourselves with the place. On the whole it is pretty easy going for cycling with only a few places that caused a sweat to be raised. The centre square is the main communal area with various restaurants, shops, cafe's, the swimming complex and ten pin bowling.
The supermarket is very well stocked and not at all overpriced as I had expected. We pre-ordered a grocery pack for £38 and found it to be good value. The fresh breah and cakes are particulaly nice.
We had pre-booked a few activities as follows:
Adult/Child target archery - very good and great instructor. Very H&S conscious and rightly so.
Treasure Hunt - ride around the park following clues, we came third and was given a Creme Egg each.Cost £16 for all of us.
Junior Quad Bike Challenge - my 6 year old son did this and although he enjoyed it I was dissaponted. The kids sit on the quad bike and the instructor has a lead attached that if they go too fast or dangerous he pulls the cables which cuts the engine. It cinsisted of 3 x 2 lap sessions going around a small circuit with the instructor jogging next to the quad. Fair enough for little kids or first few laps but this was for kids aged 6 - 12 and alot were left dissapointed as were parents.
Aqua Sana - my wife and mum booked some treatments here and came back very happy and loved the place.
We only went to one restaurant called Huckleburys. When we arrived we had to wait 35 mins in the bar and then finally shown a table 20m away that had been ready for 15 mins. Once seated the food was served within 10 mins and very good.We were near the play area and some older kids were having a ball pond fight. One ball flew out of the door and hit my 2 year old on the nose causing it to bleed!
Tropical Swimming dome - Great place for all ages. There are numorous slides and rapids rides or secluded hot pools for anyone wanting a quiet time. There were dozens of life guards on duty aswell. I loved the outdoor section of the pool, it snowed when we was there but it was still in use and great fun.
One more thing - you have to be very careful on arrivals and departure days as everyone brings cars onsite and some roads are very narrow.
Summary:
We all absolutely loved the place. The weather was terrible, we had sun, rain, hail and even snow during our weekend but it did not deter us one bit.
I was very impressed with the staff as all were very frindly and helpful at all times. We are already looking at going back again sometime later in the year, well maybe a different park.
My only complaint would be the activities are very expensive and not always value for money.

| said: Spent our first Centerparks weekend at a 2 bed comfort villa located in the Oak area, 5 mins walk from the main square, and pretty flat for little legs cycling. We all really enjoyed our first forest adventure! Trips to and from the carpark are a bit chaotic on changeover days, especially when you get traffic, cyclists and pedestrians all trying to get along the same narrow road! Our villa was clean, very warm and very comfortable, though the most basic one, it had recently received a makeover with new furnishings and there was everything there we needed. We were greeted every morning by a wide variety of woodland birds, ducks and rabbits on our patio, which was lovely! The sub aqua paradise is great, especially the new Grand Cascade raft ride, well worth the 20 min wait! We ate at several resaturants which were all very good, especially with young children, except for Chez Pierre which was expensive and food quality poor, though it did have very good live entertainment. The Saturday night buffet and disco was excellent.
The supermarket is well stocked, some prices the same as the high street, others dearer. We prebooked a few activities, which I would advise, or you may be disappointed or have to endure a long wait. The childrens academy lessons and fitness classes were very well run.
On the down side - unfortunately the center is not immune to theft so take strong locks for your bikes and look after your personal belongings when out and about, we had something stolen from the jardin de sports. Also I wish they could do something about the groups of teenagers who seem to be able to get themselves booked into the village, I suppose it only takes one 18 year old to book a villa for 6 yobs, the high prices don't seem to deter them, they take great pleasure in cycling on the wrong side of the road intimidating pedestrians and also we did see evidence of vandalism.
Overall though we really enjoyed our break, Sherwood is a nice easy parc to get around, there is plenty for all ages to do and we look forward to visiting again in the near future.

| said: Some updates from my past postings;
Just got back from our Christmas stay at Sherwood Center Parcs, we took 1 x Exclusive 4 bed/5 bath/sauna/steam and hot tub, and a 3 bed Comfort villa.
Between the two villas this bedded all 14 in the 3 families - a great way to meet up when familiy groups have to travell from all over UK.
Sherwood has now built 10 extra Exclusive villas - the original 4 have the older steam room (plastic, with radion, not tiles, no radio, as the newer villas. The newer also have LCD tv in all bedrooms and a plasma in lounge.
Still have the fake effect fire though, wish it was open fire with logs, as all other villas.
Had a great weekend
Sherwood did for 1st time a Santa grotto - really good, staff (elves great) santa gave loads of time, over 10 min per child (necessary for photo developing time). Also did a Xmas panto. Both great, hope they continue each year.
Some families ignored the prebook rule, clearly shown on info pack, and still turned up - on speck - demanding to see santa. Big rows, (poor elves), these people seemed to think they could just walk in, jump lines, make those who had booked wait longer.
Perhaps Center Parcs in starting to attract this type.
Already rebooked Xmas 06, of the 12 Exclusives, only 5 left now for Xmas 06 !!!!
Oasis - booked for March 06 - told Burger King cloased.
Elveden - stayed Sept 05 - All in one Dome now changed, after their fire, they rebuilt parc center similar to Sherwood - split. Also building pancake house - good news, as CP history is the Dutch pancake house.

All crockery and cutlery provided (Inc Corkscrew) you will need to take things like salt& pepper (we forgot) and all cleaning stuff and tea towels
Patio doors opening out onto Patio complete with ducks, squirrels, rabbits and pheasants (usually waiting for breakfast in the morning!)And surrounded by trees ours was is a very quiet location, think the ones nearer the centre may get a bit of noise especially from the swimming pool.......

| said: I have stayed at Center Parcs yearly, sometimes twice a year, since Sherwood opened. We are into our 21+ stay to date.
All Parcs are great, nothing like Haven/Butlins, and (we did try these once!). CP is very quiet, calm and restful, with great villas in beautiful locations. Always get a map from them before booking and pay the extra charge to specify villa you want. Keep away from roadways/paths so you are not overlooked/bothered by people walking home late at night.
Chose to overlook forest/waterways/closeness to centre [extra charge].
Arrive early -10am, park in car park and unload late, 4pm, so miss the traffic rush at 3pm access time to villas. Use pool [swim evenings always to 10pm], take a long walk, let kids use playground [huge], play ball [take own], or cycle in the forest.
We have booked all villa types, basics are fine for families, kids won’t appreciate extra loo's/ Jacuzzi/ better fitments - but couples would probably benefit from going Executive. Lots of terraces being built now [big shame] so check what you booking.
The new 4 bed/5 bath/sauna/steam/hot tub villa are F A B, had one last March, before they realised what they could charge and we would pay!, price now huge, but still worth it. 8 people, in 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, hot tub outside for 8!! [Bit tight], fantastic steam room with radio, sep sauna. One bedroom downstairs so great for OAPs.
No open log fire - brochure not state this, it is an enclosed real fire effect gas thingy - most disappointed.
Already booked for Xmas 2005. Check map for best location, some are miles from centre. Ours was just past Pancake house, nice short walk to center, incl swans, squirrel etc.
Prebook all you want to do that they allow you to, vital if rest and relax is not your thing.
Spa great but long queues at reception sometimes.
Don't let check-in/out day spoil your stay, first timers can find it daunting. Come early - go late.
Kids club expensive but great. Free kid’s entertainers far and few, but ARE worth going to.
Hated the Sherwood Banquet, only ever did it once. Food fine, but keenness of staff in get up was very lacking - long time ago, perhaps better now?
Longleat a beautiful Parc, long 7 hr drive for us, but worth it, get villa near pool, or at least that side of parc [it is split in two by huge hills]. Great cycle routes/walks on boardwalks - but long way between two parts of parc. Need to be fit.
Oasis undergoing MAJOR refit since Rank buyout 2 yrs ago, lots of building [should be finished now - we went Oct 03]. Needs to develop both staff/shrubs/forest. Pool great, villas OK, but mostly two floors, we found upstairs too hot [open stairs], so downstairs always cold.
Kids will love their Xmas Santa in the forest, real reindeers. Did do Ice Rink outside when we went prior to 03 stay [but owned by Rank then], is it back yet at Xmas?
Elveden - stayed once pre fire, LONG drive, rubbish road route [not CP fault], nice memories. Get villa overlooking lake. 99% of facilities in Dome, so lots people around.
DeEemhof - Amsterdam - one stay -pre fire- fantastic, would go again, and kids keep asking. SO diff to UK parcs. GREAT dome, villas like our basics, parc EMPTY of people, apparently locals use as base and travel out daily!
Lots of play parcs, we found over 7, doted around centre. Food very cheap. Watch out for XXX TV, would think CP would somehow block it as kids could easily view it.
Went in high summer, so expected parc to be busy.
CP is great in high or low season, just dress for time of year, and don't let rain/snow spoil your stay.
Management will sort problems to do speak to Guest Relations Management direct IF something goes wrong

| said: Center Parcs - Oasis - Cumbria - their 4th park.
Why is it not listed under the UK Hotels as are CP other 3 parks?, how do you get it added? there are no Contact Us links for this website!
We stayed at above in Oct 03 and am happy to supply a report if wanted.
In brief
Oasis has only been bought by Center Parcs [from Rank] in last two years, around 2002.
Oasis is not as nice as the original CP parks, but they appear to be making a lot of changes.
The staff, or some of them, need some more 'happy dust'.
The park needs lots more trees and forestry.
They are building loads more apts, a big mistake.
The dome is great but closes very early, so no late swims. The Rapids [not] - really a big flume, closes even earlier, around 5pm !!!
Worth giving them a try, but be aware the park was not built by them, so they are adapting what they have, though why the strange continuation of the querky rules; later access, no dogs etc etc, I do not understand. Oasis should fall into line with all CP standard practice.
Oasis has some nice stage shows, and kids shows. The Xmas and Easter offerings are excellent. Not done in other CP parks. They also have a BurgerKing !
A 5th park is due to be announced this year, 2004, how does one get it added to this site. It will be in the South West I guess.
See my Sherwood/Longleat reports for more info on CP, we have been 21 times, and continue to do so.

It's a fantastic place to visit you can do as much or as little as you want, you can make it is cheap or as expensive as you want by either eating in or out.
We stayed in a basic comfort villa which we felt were very dated, next time we plan to splash out a bit and book an executive villa. Staff are very friendly and helpful ( much nicer than those at Oasis whinfell!)
Center parcs are excellent places for a hol, next time were going to try Elveden.

| said: Another die hard centerparcs fan here!
The first occasion we went was on my son's first birthday and he's nearly 15 now. We go once or twice a year.
New Year at Sherwood is simply the best. It may seem expensive but when considering it is for 6 (as it is in our case) I don't consider it any more expensive than other places.
There are ways and means of getting the most out of your holiday at Centerparcs. If anything is bookable in advance (eg at New Year) then book at the earliest opportunity). If you can't book in advance get there early as we do.
We generally arrive at about 10ish in the morning and go straight to the Leisure Bowl to book all the activities we wish to do in advance. This is not possible for activities which require a court such as squash or badminton. These may only be booked the day before (get up early as they may be booked up by 10).
I would also recommend getting back to the car by 2.30 and either starting or joining the queue to go through the barrier. This has many advantages including getting a decent parking area right outside your villa and also a parking space back in the carpark which isn't miles away (providing you unpack quickly as we do).
If you enjoy cycling take your own if possible. We hired bicycles on our first visit but have not bothered since. Everywhere is easily within walking distance and the lovely walks just add to the pleasure of the holiday (imho).
The Aqua Sana is just soooooo luxurious. A 3 hour spa session last year cost £25. This may seem like a lot of money but it was lovely and includes around 8? different areas to enjoy together with a pool.
The parcmarket is well stocked but obviously dearer than a normal supermarket but to be honest, we only ever get fresh produce from there such as bread as we take everything else ourselves courtesy of Tesco!
Without fail we go to the Sherwood Banquet which is great fun for all and the actors/players get everyone involved in the show. The food is excellent but be prepared to do a little bit of your own 'waiting on'. The children get to have photos taken with Robin Hood (hurraaaaay) and the Sherriff of Nottingham (booooooooo) if they wish.
The Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise is fun too. Apart from our last day we tend to go there in the evenings as it is generally much quieter, very romantic and atmospheric swimming outdoors looking up at the stars with the snow or frost twinkling under the subtle lighting. As already mentioned, take care at the bottom of the jungle river, it does drag you under!
I'm afraid I can't go into any detail about summers at Centerparcs as all our holidays are out of season i.e. November to March, when it's cheaper.
The restaurants are very clean and the food is good. We tend not to eat out very often as we take all our own food (as mentioned earlier!).
Getting in on school half-terms, Christmas or New Year is nigh on impossible unless you book AT LEAST one year in advance and don't feel guilty if you have to leave your kids in the kindergarten whilst you do something else. They'll love it and will beg to keep going back!
New Year...here we come!

| said: We arrived at 3pm, and were told there would be really long queues to get to our villa. However, once we cleared the main entrance it was all plain sailing and in we went.
There were 12 of us, so we had booked 2 adjoining 3 bedroom villas. These were in the Maple area, and the most basic. However they were very well stocked with all the kitchen equipment, a toaster, a microwave, and most importantly a kettle for pot noodles and a corkscrew and bottle opener! The bathroom and toilet were separate and clean, although the loo had a continental shape with the water at the front and a shelf at the back, much to the boys hilarity!!. The villa was very warm, sometimes too warm, with underfloor heating and radiators. Each villa had its own mini patio with table and chairs, but it was too cold for us to take advantage of this.
We didn't do too may activities, partially due to the high cost of anything interesting, and partially due to activities which were not on the prebooking form, such as a massage, being fully booked already on the Friday night. We had great fun playing crazy golf (think that had as much to do with the amount of beer consumed as the golf itself ) and made good use of the free swimming pool. The "outside bit" shouldn't be missed - it's a pool which goes from inside the greenhouse to outside it, and its heated so you won't die out there. It felt amazing on a cold wet windy March night to be in an outside swimming pool. The slides and rapids are good fun, but be warned, do not go on the rapids unless you are a very good swimmer as the last plunge pool really sucks you down - I am a fairly strong swimmer, but I had to be hauled out by 2 of my friends as I couldn't surface. Also not to be missed in the tropical paradise are the 35C whirlpools - lovely!
We also attempted rollerskating, but found the room too small to get going properly, and far too hot. The floor was also not best suited either, it was rubbery, so the wheels did not turn as much as they should have which combined with the temperature made it very hard going. The other thing we attempted to do was hire bikes. However I am very small, and when they gave me an adult bike it was blatantly too big for me, so I asked for a teenage frame - they had plenty - to be told in no uncertain terms that as I am over 14 I had to have an adult bike. As it would have not been safe for me to do so we all asked for our money back - and 12 times £12.50 is quite a lot of revenue to do without. A letter to management is on it's way. However as we were there celebrating a birthday and drinking to suit the occasion this was probably a blessing in disguise!!
The facilities on the site are very good. The supermarket is very well stocked, and surprisingly not too expensive, we ate in the villas generally, although we had dinner on the Saturday night in the Italian restaurant. 3 courses and (lots of) wine came to about £30 each, and the food was fairly good too. The bars were very expensive - £2.75 - £3.00 for a pint of beer so we only went in on the Saturday night and drank in the villa the rest of the weekend. We also found a lot of children in the bar, some screaming very loudly!! Generally we don't have a problem with children (after all they share a mental age with most of us!!) but we did find this disturbed our Saturday night, as even though the majority were well behaved we felt like we had to watch what we were saying the whole time in case we upset the parents - as a group of 12 twentysomethings we were getting a lot of "looks", and I don't like smoking when there are kids around, but beer and cigarettes go hand in hand.
We also felt that there were occasions when parents should keep their kids under beter control - splashing us in the swimming pool and being barged out of the way on the crazy golf course were 2 examples. We don't want to stop them having fun, but equally nether should they us. Maybe the odd adults only weekend would keep everyone happy!!
The site has a lot of recycling facilities, which aided the Monday morning clean up (It took us 20 minutes to put all the bottles in the bin!)
Other than that it was a good, if expensive weekend.
