The Grand Hotel, Scarborough. Very friendly personable staff. Not obtrusive but quietly efficient and we felt they were very approachable. Food was excellent, hot and plentiful. Always a good choice of main course for evening meal. Room tidied daily, beds made and clean towels and bathroom polished every day. We felt the entertainment was very professionally done but a little bit repetitive although there was a different "theme" every night. The Cabaret Lounge was very busy every evening but the gallery upstairs on the first floor which looks down onto the stage and dance floor was a great idea and accommodated the overspill spectators very well. The hotel has fantastic sea and harbour views and a lovely Victorian Entrance Lounge. We would stay again as this was excellent value for money.

The Grand does need a lot of work doing to it as it is grubby. However, I still like it and the location is fabulous.

just got back from The Grand Hotel yesterday - I had booked a double room for the 16/02/08 for two nights only the room we had been given was already being occupied by another couple. The hotel was fully booked so we tried to get in at another hotel but they were full except one for £150 per night. Britania staff couldn't do anything as fully booked and we got our money back so spent 6 long hours yesterday in the car. Not impressed at all. I had booked this with Britannia on their on line booking system and emailed then about our stay - My booking was ok and the room card and key were given to us on arrival - pity the wardrobe and bathroom were full on the other couples personal belonging even though we had the key. I have emailed the Grand and am at present awaiting a reply.

My mother and I stayed at the Grand in Scarborough, my Mother is not stable on her feet, so we took a wheelchair, we shared the disabled access with deliveries and milk dollys were there on a permanent basis. Our rooms were on the lower ground floor where the kitchens are and the builders were in still renovating rooms. Our room was frequently covered in dust and we had to plough our way through dust sheets which is quite difficult for a wheelchair! I do have photos of the difficulties we encountered if you wish to see them.

Oh My God, this hotel is in dire need of a full renovation. There are banners up saying that it is under going a £7 million renovation, lets hope that it runs over budget by £20 million as this surely can't be enough.

We stayed in family room (234) which could not have been worse. The carpets, the furniture, the bathroom. AWFULL, JUST AWFULL. There was a 2 inch gap under the door of the room, the curtains were hanging off, the windows were remarkably dirty, you had to open them to see if it was daylight outside ! There was actually written on the bathroom wall "xxxxxx was ere 2006" and they hadn't bothered to clean it up.

If you wanted hot water for a bath start running it 20 minutes early, it was so slow and took that long to get hot from the tap. The bathroom was simply vile, it has a white tiled ceiling like you get in offices but three different types of tile, with water leakage markings on them. No loo roll holder, just a pile of rolls on top of the toilet which were dirty and we were afraid to use for fear of catching something. The floor was lino that was stained and holed.

My bedside chest of two drawers, the top drawer had fallen into the bottom one ! The other wardrobes and chests were knackered. We left our clothes in the suitcases to keep them clean !

Making of the beds by the maids during the day was crap. Just crap, I have seen flatter ploughed fields. Not once did we get fresh towels !

The renovation was going on along our corridor which meant that workmen simply left there tools along the coridor rather than to one side. All sorts of electrical cables were visable and some were hanging down. Wet Paint notices were taped to the fire doors on the Saturday afternoon when we got there.....and were still there on the Tuesday when we left. Probably still there now!

The entrance hall & bar area. Unbelievable. God it sooooo dated. Really is 1950s' and it smells. Really smells.

Breakfast....... MARVELLOUS !!! EXCELLENT !!! LOVED IT !!!!! Really, yes I mean it ! Eat all you can fried food, cereals, continental .

Staff were pleasent, even though they were dealing with a bad situation and they knew it.

I haven't rated the entertainments section as I didn't ever experience it, but I would not hold out too much hope of it being any good. Probably all x-factor failures as usual.

Good spot in Scarborough, but parking is tricky. Use the NCP !

In true english style I didn't complain about the room. At the end of the day £214 for three nights bed and breakfast for a family of four over a bank holiday weekend.... you can't really complain, besides I felt that the room was perfect as there was little else damage a three and five year old could do to it !

The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was dirty and dingy. The bathroom was disgusting. The bedding and towels were not changed. The room lacked even basic facilities. The breakfast was cold and greasy. There was no hot tea or coffee. The tables had not been cleared. The staff were unhelpful and rude. I would not go back.

This hotel is in the process of renovation. This did not interfere with our stay however, which was excellent. Excellent room, great food and in general a very pleasant 5 day stay. We will certainly consider this hotel again when visiting Scarborough.

Hotel in a great position and staff very helpful and friendly, the resturaunt had a lovely view over looking the bay, the food was plentiful and served hot with a reasonable choice for most people.

The cleanliness of the hotel was quiet good but could do to be better, nooks and cranies a little dusty.

The entertainment was good and varied.

As the hotel is undergoing extensive refurbishment which caused some guests to become a little upset I feel that it will all be worth it as this is a lovely hotel and well worth all the work that is being done to it, I would visit the hotel again and will look forward to seeing it refurbished to it's former glory.

I was pleased with this hotel the room could of done with a bit of a dust but it was ok. We had a superb view of the sea and the whole of Scarborough.

The food was very good but their was a lack of staff in the dining hall which meant all the tables were full of dirty pots and we had to tidy the table our self before we could eat.

The entertainment was very good 5 star quality.

We would definitely visit this hotel again.

Although we knew the location of The Grand Hotel was superb at the bargain price we paid, we had low expectations. My Mum, my 3 year old and myself were given a tradional welcome from the coach (Lees, and our luggage was helpfully taken to the room. Our room had obviously been refurbished. It was light, clean and quite modern and the view directly over the sea was amazing. Inclusive 3 course dinner was also a suprise. Breakfast too. The service was very efficient and the food was pretty good too. They did kids meals but the food was so good my chicken-nugget-eater child soon tucked into things like chicken breast with vegetables, roast beef and Yorkies followed by ice-cream or jam roly-poly and custard. Evenings were the only problem. Because we had a child with us we felt a little excluded as the entertainment obviously is aimed at older people. Hopefully, in time the Grand will take this into account. In the meantime, the hotel shop provides plenty of reading materials and a good selection of chocs to see you through...

The only thing grand about this hotel is the name. It is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in . The room was awful. It reminded me of Butlins budget accomodation before they did a refurb in the late 90s.
The suspended ceiling had had a hole put through with some blunt instrument to allow the light pulley through. The furnishing were sparse and cheap, there were none of the usual bathroom items like shampoo and soap, merely soap dispensers.
This would have been acceptable in a cheap B&B or hotel but not when the room was £75 a night. Compare the quality with a Travel Inn or Travelodge.

We (3) stayed at the Royal in Scarborough recently, we found the hotel dirty, the food was not very warm and nor presented very well.

The whole hotel could do with a team of cleaners. The room we stayed in was shabby, in need of a clean and some fresh bedding covers. The bath had a scum line which we had to clean with toilet tissue before we could use it.

The list is endless.

I hope this is added to your web site page as people should hear both sides of peoples experiences.

The Grand Hotel in Scarborough is my favourite, the hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent as is the entertainment. The hotel overlooks the harbour and has fantastic views and is situated in a perfect place for any shopaholics with the town centre just around the corner. There is a lift within yards of the hotel to take you to the beach and busy seafront.
There is room for improvement on the cleanliness of the hotel but I have never had any problems with this in all the 30 years of visiting the place.
I will certainly continue taking my holidays at this hotel.
Great value for money!!

The website describes it a beautifull building and it certainly is ...from the outside.
To cut a long story short we just booked a weekend there at a total cost of £152.
Inside the place is tatty and certainly not grand.
Our bedroom had ceiling tiles missing , tatty furniture, threadbare carpets and wasn`t over clean.
We didnt stay and the manager refunded our money .
My complaints may seem trivial but the place is simply not worth the money and is not luxurious as one would imagine.
I would not go there again . need I say more??

Stayed at this hotel with work. Our room had been redecorated and was very clean and nicely presented.

The food was of a very high standard and was very enjoyable. The location of this hotel cannot be beaten. Didn't see much of staff, but probably because i didn't need to.

Entertainment was of a very good standard.with excellent productions.
I have stayed at this hotel on two occassions and would not hesitate to do so again.
