| said: We have now been to Hotel Fourati twice. Very clean and tidy rooms. It has lovely gardens and is very picturesque. The food is good, only what you would expect from a foreigh country. The children found something to eat each evening. The staff are extremely polite and very helpful. We were advised to stick to the Travel companies trips on our first visit, which we did. But on our second visit we went our own way and found that it was a considerably cheaper i.e. camels and the pirate ships which are run by staff on behalf of the hotel - bookings for these were taken on the beach during the day. We would most definately recommend this hotel to families and couples. There are a few steps but nothing that my smallest couldn't handle.

| said: Return visit to this hotel and what can we say..????
We arrived earlier in the night than we did last year, thanks to speeding through Immigration...90 mins instead of 2 hrs plus. At Reception my partner and I were greeted with a warm welcoming smile and being told..Lovely to see you back. Luggage was taken to our room and the porter even refused a tip..!!!!!
Next day on wondering around we were greeted with big smiles and handshakes from all the friendly staff we met last year. On going into the restaurant for the first time we handed our green card over to the Maitre D...and ended up with a table to ourselves for the whole of our stay!!! In the snack bar, Samir almost jumped over the bar to greet us, first drink was on him..!!! only because we handed him a bottle of duty free whisky.
The only downside to this visit was the entertainment, it was lacking an atmosphere, the Russian dancers were doing the same routine each time they were on, the drag artists at least changed their routine each time.
We fell in love with this hotel last year, thats why we went back and after the treatment we received this year made us want to go and live there if we could.
As some comments have been made about state of the building but we think this is all part of the added attraction, it may only be a 3 star hotel, but the warmth and willingness of the staff make it feel more like a 5 star at least. Can anyone else name a 5 star hotel where you return a year later and get greeted and treated like Royalty, I doubt it. For us the staff treat you more like family than just "Rich people" spending money on them.
The only downside to a holiday in Tunisia is getting through Monastir Airport, but as the staff were saying there are plans afoot to build a new airport some 20/30 kilometers south of Hammamet, hopefully when this does happen the holidays will be better all around.

| said: We first arrived at Fouratti at midday ,met in dark and distinctly dingey reception area.
Our rooms were at the side of the hotel. They were in need of a complete refurbishment ,broken tiles ,flaking paint ,and small dingey bathroom . Dirty grouting in bathroom with no fridge ,tv or tea making facilities. The dining area was very dark and miserable ,so was the food. We doubted the hygiene. We asked the next day to be moved which we did.
The rep was excellent . The hotel was in good position but bad repair ! This is the first time we have felt the need to post a report and are not normally that fussy, but we felt in this instance we need to voice our opinion.
We paid £325 each and expected a little better.

| said: The hotel is kept lovely and clean and we always saw gardeners trying to keep the bushes and trees under control.
The food was very repetitive, the breakfast was OK if you like rolls and sweet buns but if you want the cooked food the scrambled eggs were not cooked long enough and the bacon had no meat only fat. The soup in the evenings was always nice, and the cake for afters was OK but the dinners were not great to the English taste buds.
The location of the hotel was nice, surrounded by only a few shops but most of the shop keepers were really friendly especially the jewellery shop owner opposite. Don't expect to leave the shop without being kissed on both cheeks. A Tunisia tradition.
Also the hotel was right on a very beautiful beach and although there were people passing by all day selling things they didn't bother us if we said no. It was entertainment in itself just watching what passed by. Everything from jewellery, to doughnuts, to rugs to a man on a camel.
The hotel staff are very friendly and very helpful, although probably because we tipped them regularly.
The entertainment wasn't great, a belly dancer, a snake charmer and some transvestites, although it was something to watch in the evenings. The animation team had a good leader who was like the pied piper and always has children trailing around behind him. He seemed to be around most of the day by the pool arranging games (water polo, blindfolded darts) and was there for the children's disco in the evening. Although they could do with splashing out on a new CD.

Breakfast as you would expect, evening meals were not to our tastes but there was plenty, lunch time snacks were the best we loved our crepes or our paninis.
Lorraine was the best rep we have ever had and dealt with any problem immediately. Trips were well organised and enjoyed them all. Our waiter was lovely and we were sad to say goodbye to him. As we were there for two weeks we found the entertainment repeated.
We will be going back again a great time was had.

| said: We had heard many conflicting reports on Tunisia and people seem to love it or hate it! We went May 2005 for 2 weeks. We loved it.
The hotel looked nothing from the outside but was quite a garden of eden once through the reception. 3 Pools and right on a beautiful beach. We arrived at 11.30 at night and the enterance was beautifully lit which made it very attractive.
Our room had a defective toilet but we were moved the very next day to a basic but clean room. Towels and linen changed regularly. The food was fine and plentifyl, even our very fussy daughter found something to enjoy each meal time.
The location was good and although not many shops, it was very cheap to get a taxi into central areas. The hotel was slowly being refurbished while we here there but in general the hotel and gardens was kept clean.
The age of the hotel definatly added character. Our children loved the entertainment staff and they joined in most of the activities. We hope that they are still there when we return in May this year.
Overall good value for money, basic rooms, friendly staff and a great time. Plus the hotel Thomas Cook Rep, Lorraine was brilliant.

| said: I've just returned from Hammamet. We stayed at the Fourati. I thought that the hotel represented great value for money and I am surprised at some of the previous comments. When you consider that we paid a little over £200 for a week half board it is excellent value. The food was basic but adequate. The hotel staff were really helpful esopecially Samir in the Snack Bar.
Tunisia is well geared for tourism and has the Tesco philosophy of pile em high sell em cheap. The gardens were beautiful, the beach was clean. Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.
The only irritation was the very persistent street hustlers, and the intensity of the vendors in the medina in Hammamet. However when you consider the average wage of 5 Dinar a day (a little over £2) then you can undsertand their persistence. If you're reading this Mr President, shame on you. You should distribute your wealth more fairly amongst your citizens Toursim is a great revenue earner and they really are raking it in. Though the money does not trickle down to the workers. And they work incredibly hard.

| said: Arrived at the hotel at around midnight, the reception staff were a bit miserable, so we both thought what have we let ourselves into. However next day... we found the real Fourati...Staff are absolutely fantastic and really helpful.
Facilites were plentiful, 3 swimming pools, 7 bars plenty of snack bars and for most of the children a wonderful entertainment staff. Room needed in our opinion needed more cleaning, ie the toilet could do with a drop of bleach. We had a problem with the toilet, reported it and they came to fix it in about an hour, so no faults there.
Rooms were cleaned daily, bedding changed every other day, towels changed daily.
Facilities in the room were sparse so take your own kettle, iron etc. No tv in the room. We were in the 300 rooms and the view from the balcony was fantastic. The beach is only a 3 minute walk away same for all the other facilities.
The only thing we didnt like was the amount of steps everywhere so if you have a walking problem this is not the hotel for you. We fell in love with the hotel, the staff and the locals, apart from the peddlars selling goods. We are hoping to go back again and it would be here we will be staying. All in all a wonderful hotel.

| said: This was the first time we had gone to Tunisia.
Although the Hotel was an hour away from the airport, we had a Thomas cook rep with us telling us about locations.
Although the hotel was nothing to look at from the road, once you entered, through the gates, beautiful kept gardens were in front of you. Reception staff were not that friendly and the man that took our luggage to our room was going to stay the night if he didn’t get a tip or so it seemed....
Food was ok but there was a lovely restaurant just along the road, which did beautiful meals very cheap.
The staff were excellent very friendly.
The hotel was straight onto the beach which was excellent, sandy and well kept. There were loads of water sports and a good beachside cafe. The main problem we found was beach sellers and when you were shopping always being pestered.
There was always entertainment both day and night, mainly for the younger members, although bingo did come in five different languages....
Overall we had a very relaxing holiday and would go back to the hotel again.

| said: I travelled my two children and my mum for the October 2004 half-term and we were allocated two really large rooms overlooking lush gardens and the sea.
The location right by the beach is superb. The hotel is apparently the oldest in Hammamet and in some areas it needs to be refurbished. The toilets near the disc bar could have been cleaner. I think the 800 rooms are the best and we were lucky to be in these.
What really made our holiday so enjoyable was the friendly entertainment staff. My son (12 years old) was encouraged to do activities as was my daughter (who had her seventh birthday out there.) She just loved the whole holiday, particularly the mini disco every night with the most amazing entertainer ever (Fou Fou). He is such a wonderful dancer and was so friendly to everyone.
The beach is clean but the beach sellers were a bit of a pain. With food in hotels it always gets bit samey and this was true here. There was always variety in the main course but the starters and dessert were virtually the same everyday.
We loved it, but I could see if you were allocated one of the side rooms you might be disappointed. We would certainly consider going back again, but I fear it would not be the same without FOU Fou if he had moved on.

| said: When we first arrived it looked lovely, the gardens and the plants were wonderful.
The rooms are very big but very basic we felt that it could have done with a fridge and maybe a tv.
Wherever we looked it was very clean but could do with a little touch up here and there.
The room cleaners were there as soon as you left the room and were very friendly and with in half an hour the room was clean and tidy again, even my nightwear was folded presentive on the bed.
The breakfast was ok. Choises of cereal and bread rolls and sweet cake/bread. The evening meal was great every night a different choice each time. We could have had done with a little more Tunisian food as we like to try different food. But it was lovely and a great choice also for vegetarians, and kids.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The kids entertainer were loved by young and old.
We did 2 trips as well which were great value for the money. The camel ride was great and fun for the whole family. Also the pirate boat trip was fantastic but not for people who easiely get seasick. To the dolphines was just out of this world and the pirates were great, too.

| said: When we arrived at 2am our family of 4 were shown to 2 rooms both had three beds. Not what I had booked, I booked a family room with 4 beds. They promised us we would get our family room in the morning. Next morning still no room they said the next day. The reception staff were unhelpful. In the end I rang the rep and we got moved to another hotel, much cleaner and the staff at the new hotel couldn't do enough for us unlike the Fourati.
I would not recomend this hotel from the bit I did see it can only be described as in need of a big refurbishment.

| said: On first impressions we were very disappointed with the hotel rooms. Its seems that some blocks were built sooner than others. Whilst room 557 was large and kept clean, it was rather basic and in need of new decor. Having said that, the grounds of the hotel are kept immaculate, the staff are fantastic and the beach location amazing. With regards to food, breakfast was very poor and evening meals were quite adequate. Due to the constant badgering from the shop locals, I think it is very unlikely I would travel to Tunisia again, but if I did, I would stay in the Fourati again. Just not in rooms beginning with a 5.

| said: For these past two years( 2003, 2004) our holiday was planned to be spent at Tunisia.
Our accomodation was at Hotel Fourati in Hammamet which was an incredible one. Since me and my sister are youths we enjoyed most of all the entertaiment. We enjoyed most of all participating in the sports activities organised by the animators and we also liked a lot the Snoopy Club. The shows were nice most of all the Cabaret Show.
The hotel staff are very friendly especially the animators. My sister and I are looking forward to visiting the Hotel Fourati next year.
Keep it up.

| said: I and my friend Viv stayed at The Fourati from April 24 to May 1 2005. We booked this hotel because we wanted a cheap and cheerful holiday to relax.
The location was excellent with the beach being right on the doorstep.
The gardens were well kept, but we found the pools a bit unkempt (the best being the big outdoor pool by the beach and the worst being the other smaller outdoor pool just beside the indoor pool).
Maid service was good and our room was cleaned every day.
We stayed in the 800 rooms (apparently these rooms are the better ones) and were delighted to find we had a fridge!
Yes, the reception staff are miserable, but the rest of the staff, especially the entertainment team were very friendly. Fou Fou and Samir (the DJ) were excellent.
The disco bar is very plush and we danced almost every night after the programmed entertainment.
Everyone expects a tip, but most of the hotel staff work very hard and when you consider the average wage is 5 Dinars (about £2.50) a day, this is understandable.
We walked into Hammamet and back via the beach (this takes about 1 hour each way) but this is not recommended when the weather is hot!!!

| said: This hotel doesnt look much from the outside, but when you pass throught the gates, the beautifully maintained gardens are a pleasant surprise. The room was huge! Room for six people easily, so two adults and two kids had loads of space. Relatively clean, however the loo begun to whiff after a couple of days. We had a bath, which we all preferred to a shower, as you get some control over the temperature.! The location was FANTASTIC! Right on the beach, with a bar. The beach was sandy, and immaculate, plenty of sun beds, and.....beach sellers! You can purchase everything from fruit to carpets on this beach. I found it fun, but others got a little annoyed. There are lots of watersports on this beach, banana boat, para sending, water ski, jet ski, but the swimming area is protected from "traffic" by ropes and buoys. The best thing was the donut man who charged along every day with the best donuts ever, which was lucky cos the hotel food was not to my taste. I found it boring and samey, and filled up at breakfast intead of bothering too much with the evening meal. If we went there again, we would go b&b, and eat out in the evening. Kids snoopy disco was fun, and there was a few entertainment evenings, (snakes and scorpions man).Drinks in the hotel are expensive, and we got stung £11 for a bottle of cordial, so TAKE YOUR OWN SQUASH AND NIBBLES! Also, a kettle,as the rooms dont have tea making facilities. All the staff here were great, really friendly and hard working, and would do anything for the kids, however, I would reccommend speaking to your holiday rep about camel riding trips and the like, rather than book them with staff from hotels, or locals. We were left stranded in the middle of no-where after a camel trip. As it turned out we were about 15 mins from our hotel walking distance, but it wasnt much fun as it was over 100 degrees. The trip itself was a great laugh, and we ate cactus fruit on the way, discussed footy with our guide, and visited a bedouin village. Remember to take coins everywhere as tipping is a way of life here. No-one stole anything from us in the hotel, and we made a lot of friends, especially Jamille, our waiter. We gave him a good tip towards the end of the week, and guess what? He came to work still drunk the next morning! You have been warned. We had a fab time here, and lots of laughs. Say hi to Moggy at the cocktail bar for us, and enjoy yourselves. One last thing, you WILL see a cockroach or two, but you see a whole lot more in Tenerife!
