| said: I stayed at this location in July 03. Lets just say nothing has changed apart from the waste land you were referring to is now a building site! Our holiday was initially for 14 nights, we stayed at hilltop gardens for 5! The rest was at Venus beach hotel.
We had to pay an extra 300 cypriot pounds to stay at the venus beach but I would of paid anything to get out of this slum. We too have stayed at cheaper places and both of us don't mind 'roughing it' now again but I don't think this place has ever been cleaned since it opened. If anyone is planning on going there, DON'T.

We stayed at the hill top and we thought it was great! Our room was clean and tidy no creepy crawlers at all, the only thing that was creepy was the cocky bar man!!
The walk to the bus stop was not far at all! it was dark to walk about at night! but hey who cares when you have had a beer!

| said: We booked a late booking to Hilltop Gardens via Olympic for a week in July 2007. I have to admit I was getting a bit worried after reading some of the reviews on here prior to departure.
However, when we arrived (about 30 mins transfer time from airport) I was pleasantly surprised. The apartments were absolutely fine, the pool area was great (other than the pink blossom that continually fell from the trees - but pretty all the same). The bar area was fine and had a pool table and arcade games for the kids. The barman, Sam, was lovely and really good with the kids. The staff really couldn't do enough for you.
The aircon was £4 per day, which we would have died without, I'd strongly recommend you have it...to fend off mossies too !!
There was a small building site which we could see from our room (our room overlooked the sea and the pool - was lovely) but despite them working on it in the day we didn't hear anything from it, it did not disturb us at all and could be easily ignored when looking at the beautiful sea view. They have to build to develop the area don't they ??? The hotels and apartments didn't just arrive on the back of a truck one day.
The room was very clean and regularly cleaned throughout our stay. We couldn't use the towels as fast as they kept replacing them. I have to say that it was better than some of the 4* and 5* places I've stayed at in the past. But I did go with the cousin from hell (joke) who is like Monica from friends and cleaned the place too.
All in all we had a really good time. Given that we only paid £915 for two kids and two adults, I thought it was fantastic. You can't go to a 2* place expecting the Hilton can you now..? I think people have to have realistic expectations, it was lovely as long as you're not expecting perfection. Lets put it this way I've stayed at some really nice places and I would def go back to Hilltop Gardens again.

| said: We booked this apartment very cheaply with Olympic Holidays.
I can confirm that the accommodation is exactly as described on other posts!
It is basic but clean! The staff are okay - however they have a severe shortage of irons. I went to reception and ask could we loan an iron, they have one iron to share between all the rooms. I was told that it would be available "tomorrow". I am still waiting for it yet. lol.
The apartments are situated out of the way. Although many bars and tevernas are a short distance away. If you want a treat go to Zorbas restuarant (situated on the right and side of the Tombs of the Kings Road on your way into town) best night is a Friday as you must experience the camp waiter who performs Cypriot dancing in his own way.
All the staff are friendly, especially the two dancers who stay behind at the end of their routine and have a friendly chat.
We initially booked the accommodation for seven nights, but left after three nights, nothing to do with the accoomodation, we moved to Ayia Napa as we prefer that side of the island.
To sum it up, its cheap and cheerful, but a long walk to the nightlife.

| said: My friend and I arrived at the apartments and found them to be clean and tidy. We were looking forward to a nice stay.
I will say at this point I am relocating to cyprus so I was there looking at properties etc. I love cyprus and the local people, but into the second day of our holiday after spending the day looking at properties we arrived back at the apartments at about 9.30pm and decided to have a couple of drinks at the bar.
We had three drinks each and we felt very very drunk so we decided to go to bed. We got up the next morning and we have never felt so ill in all of our lives we couldn't leave our rooms for 2 days.
All I am saying if you have a drink at the bar please please have a drink from a bottle that you must insist on them opening the bottle infornt of you and don't let it out of your sight.
We think our drinks were tampered with but we cannot prove it. from 2 very unhappy ladies who will never stay there again.

| said: We stayed for two weeks from 29th August 2005.
Our room was cleaned 5 times a week, but it was very superficial as there are only two over worked hotel cleaners (80 rooms according to the Daily Mail website). The apartment was dated and the toilet smelt a little and after touching anything in the bathroom you felt you really needed to wash your hands. We were in an older block, the newer ones have fresher décor. The entertainment was a Karoake on a Saturday night. At times there were insufficient loungers for hotel guests and people from outside did occasionally use the facilities. Air Con was a bit steep at C£4 a night, we managed without it, but had to have the windows open and as a result were woken every night by people returning to their rooms. It was what we expected, not “holiday from hell” material, just basic two star. Best part was the sunsets every night on our sea facing balcony. If shopping we would recommend Smart supermarket near ERMEs (use for frozen or chilled items, including meat) in the harbour. A pack of 6 1.5 litre bottles was C£2.40 at the local kiosk and only C1.20 at Smart. Its worth doing a big shop on the first day and getting a taxi with your bulk shop for the stay. Careful though, make sure you ice box is working, I had to two tubs of ice cream when I found the freezer wasn’t keeping things frozen!
LOCATION It is located over 2 miles from the central harbour area (confirmed on a locally purchased map). In the hot weather (30s) it took us 40 minutes to walk. Just over 20 minutes to the local market and shopping area, an uphill walk in parts. Watch out for the “sweet” old grannies on the fruit and veg stalls though, two tried overcharging, one wanting over C£3 for a kilo of potatoes and tomatoes.

| said: We stayed at the Hilltop Garden apartments at the start of May 2005 for a week and had a fantastic time there.
The staff were really friendly and accommodating and the apartments were clean, tidy and well maintained.
A cleaner came every couple of days and changed the sheets and towels.
There were 18 of us in our party and all enjoyed it, no one had any major problems or complaints about the accommodation or staff.
The only negative points were the food wasn't tremendous there but was reasonably cheap and cheerful, and the pool was not cleaned of insects, although 1 of our party took it upon himself to give it a going over every day. The staff did say they were looking to employ a pool cleaner.
Would go back there.

| said: We returned home today from our second visit to the Hilltop Gardens. Although we were only there for a week, we enjoyed every minute of our stay.
The Hilltop Gardens complex consists of a number of individual appartment units of 2 or 3 floors. All of the buildings are well maintained and the grounds are neat with many fruit trees, palms and roses. The site is well established.
Some of the surrounding area is undergoing development but we found that this didn't affect our enjoyment. The Hilltop is away from the main tourist areas of Paphos so is ideal if you like a quiet holiday. Local transport is very handy via bus or taxi but we hired a car because we wanted to explore the island in our own time.
The staff are very friendly and curteous and our rooms were cleaned every other day.
I look forward to returning next year.

| said: We were a bit worried when we first read reports about the apartments, but when we got there I was pleasantly suprised. To be honest, I have stayed in a lot worse. We had a 2 bedroom apartment in B block on the third floor with a sea view, which we weren't expecting, so it was a bit of a bonus. Watching the thunderstorms over the sea was great.
The apartment was clean, except for under the beds and the sofas, but don't look under there and then you won't be bothered!
We had our linen changed during our week there and the cleaners came every other day. We had decent enough bedsheets but it was cold during the night so we used the blankets provided.
We only wanted somewhere to put our heads down at night and it fitted the bill fairly well. I can't comment on the entertainment, the pool or the standard of food as we didn't sample any of these. We weren't really disturbed by the building site opposite our block either - the thunder was more of a disruption to our sleep.
The staff on reception were really quite friendly, so I'm not sure what other people experienced when they went there but we had not complaints about them. They made a real fuss of our little boy, and to me that's what matters. We did use the shop though to get some milk for our youngster and not only was it expensive, they diddled my husband by taking his 20 cent coins and treating then as 10 cent coins. It was only when my husband left the shop, did he realise they had (probably knowingly) overcharged him for the milk.
We had no problems with bugs or anything like that. We had a few ants come in but they were only tiny.
We were lucky in that we had a car thrown in with the holiday but it was a bit ropey. However, we could hardly complain as it only cost us the CDW and petrol and it did get us round and about without any bother. We found the car invaluable for the location of the apartments as it would have been a bit of a pain walking or getting the bus everywhere with a toddler and a buggy. It was nice and quiet at nights though and that's important to me. As for someone saying there wasn't any street lighting, there was plenty around when we were there.
All in all, the apartments were fine and remember, you get what you pay for.

| said: The rooms were ideal for a self catering holiday. We were in new block and it was very clean. Towels and linen changed quite often. Went to tell reception staff that our shower head was broke and within 5 minutes the maintenance man was repairing it!
Could really do with air conditioning but hired 2 fans so that helped a bit.
Hotel staff were very helpful and nice. Olivia - the rep. was very nice. We even had an anniversary card off her!
Only ate there a few lunch times but it was ok. There wasn't really any entertainment, but people seemed to go out and just go to the bar for a nightcap (or 2!)
It is quite a way from the harbour but there are bars and restaurants to go to without going right into the harbour. The bus is only 50p. On our 2nd night we got a 12 seater taxi which was very reasonable and the taxi driver - Chris, gave us his mobile number so whenever we needed a taxi we just called him.
The hotel is ideal for people who don't mind not being in the centre of everything and don't mind a short walk to bars and restaurants. It is a great base for exploring Cyprus!

| said: Well having read the reports about this hotel i'd say I had a mixed holiday. I went with my parents and two brothers and it peaked at about 45 degrees during my time in the two weeks we spent there.
We arrived on a Tuesday night and I have to say my first impressions were not that good. We were taken to our rooms and left to fathom out how not to open a door, after five minutes we got in and were greated with a very spacious room. But on further investigation we found there was no air conditioning. As it was around ten at night we wandered down to the bar following our dumping of the cases on the beds. We went and ordered some food and how we regret doing that. My two brothers ordered chicken and mushroom pie and me and my parents ordered mousaka. An hour an a half later my brothers got their pies, ten minutes after that they got their chips. Then twenty minutes later the rest of us got a plate with salad on it, then twenty minutes later the mousaka came. It was nice but anything would have been following the wait. Things could only have gotten better.
The next morning we got up for the welcome meeting and following that set about exploring the hotel and things. Slight worry, the pool table slanted to the right as it wasn't level. When we got back to the room following exploring the hotel we saw there was a karaoke on a Thursday and a disco Saturdays. In total, 3 people sang and nobodydanced at the disco.
As the week went on things stayed the same, what I will note though is the tennis court. It was free which made a nice change, but it was always brushed and hosed just before the managers husband played on it, never just before we played on it.
In our final week, things finally got so much better. The bar staff were fantastic, some of the reception staff were great as well. In our final week I made many many friends and it was that rather than the hotel itself that made my holiday a fantastic place. Following a night out to Fat Mamas or Joannas or Rigas we would spend the next few hours in the bar next to the pool talking and laughing together, its what a holiday is about. The second week the karaoke was better as more people sang and the disco got better when I got a few people up dancing with the help of my mum.
All in all, it could have been alot worst had it not been for the people. Jo and Andrea on the bar deserve a medal for the hours they do and they were all friendly. As was the Bauld headed night bar man. Granted, some of the staff seemed to have little understanding of customer service but I think one was the managers daughter so it can be forgiven. Cleanliness wasn't really an issue. The main downfall for me was the lack of air conditioning, especially with the weather as it was.
A tip for anybody going with Thomas Cook, go on the rep night, unlimited food, unlimited wine and spirits and soft drinks and good entertainment.

| said: We had 14 nights at Hilltop Gardens and had a throughly enjoyable time. Yes it is out of the centre of Paphos, but there is plenty of local transport and taxi's.
Our room was spacious and very clean. The towels were changed every other day and the bed linen every 3days. We were due to leave on the Wednesday morning and our linen was still changed on the Tuesday morning, even though we were leaving the next day.
There are plenty of good restaurants just a short walk away. The Melania, a traditional restaurant, is on the main road to the right of Hilltop. Very good restaurant and family run. Another good place to eat is, Karlina's,which is on the main road towards Paphos, a very good menu for all times of the day. The staff are very friendly and good fun.
This was the first time we have been to Cyprus and we will definately be back again and stay at Hilltop Gardens. Thanks to everyone for an enjoyable holiday.

| said: Was a bit unsure about going here after having read previous reports, but we were pleasantly surprised.
Okay the accomodation isn't 5-star but we didn't pay 5-star prices (and anyway 5-star were a rubbish 80's band). The place was clean and everything worked - if your looking for somewhere to be your base while you explore Paphos and the local area it's fine.
When we first arrived we had a problem with the locking of a patio door on our appartment, but we were moved when we complained and the new appartment was fine.
The staff are all very friendly and the quality of food served in the bar is very good. The shop, although slightly more expensive then the local 'supermarkets' 10 minutes walk away, is not the giant rip off that some people have written it is.
Our appartment was cleaned 10 times during our 2 week stay (not sundays & not on cleaners day off). We had plenty of clean towels & bed linen supplied.
The pool was fine, cleaned daily and used by loads of people staying there - nobody was complaining about it.
We were there in May and the weather was good all the time but temperature wasn't into the 30's yet - this meant the lack of aircon wasn't an issue but I guess it could be if you stayed in a really hot month - you have been warned!
Tips for a successful stay - 1) don't bother cooking in your appartment eat out - its cheap and theres loads of good local places:try Karlinas & the Outback, 2) due to location you will probably won't want to walk into paphos - either get a bus (short walk and 50 cents) or get reception to get you a taxi (agree price of about £4 cypriot before hand) 3) visit the waterpark & massive go kart track in paphos 4) play pool with Chris from the bar, your bound to win 4) on returning home make sure the idiots at Thomas Cook airlines remember to load your luggage onto the plane (although I did only have a 48 hour wait for it to be couried to my front door)

We had are sheets changed twice a week along with clean towels. The entertainment was not to good once a week,we found we were out of the way and as we didnt have transport we either got the bus or a taxi was were both cheap. In think when we go back to paphos again we would get somewhere which was closer to the harbour, which was very nice.

| said: I stayed two weeks at hilltop gardens and I enjoyed every minute. Yes the area is being developed but the potential in this area is great and when it is finished it will be fantastic. There is plans to build a marina just down the road from hilltop gardens which help the surrounding area. The hotel was about two minutes walk to the huge raod of local bars and restaurants and a five minute walk to the bus stop which took you into the town of Paphos (it only costs 50p too!!!)The majority of cars beeping are taxis they beep for fares, ok there were a few young men on the prowl but not enought o ruin a holiday and they would only beep (wheres the harm)
The hotel itself was great. We stayed in one of the newer apartments, which was clean and tidy. No cats, no bugs. The pool was clean and there was never too many guests and the manager put a stop to the sunbed hogging.
Overall a great holiday. One complaint they put far too much alcohol in those cocktails.

| said: Stayed at these apartments in August 2000, we were given a room covered in mould, the walls, the curtains, everywhere. The room was filthy, rusty cooker, black mould all around the supposed to be white rubber seal on the fridge door, the cutlery drawer full off crumbs and dirt, hadn't been cleaned in months, dishes the same, supposed to be self catering no way would you want to eat in there.
We complained straight away as did other people, but according to the rep there was no other accomodation available, so we had to put up with the cesspit for 3 days, we were then moved to another room, after much argument with the female manager who didn't seem to grasp the fact that people actualy go on holiday to relax not to be put through an endurrance test and just to line her pockets.
The other room was better than the first (no mould)but had the same standard of cleanliness, I'll add at this piont that I don't mind roughing it as I've camped many a times in the past and I'm not a cleanliness freak, but you couldn't eat in this place it was so grubby, it was also crawling with ants. I will also add that there's no air conditioning so on the first night there we thought we were going to die it was so hot you could hardly get a breath. I found an orange puddle on the worktop in the morning, my daughter had left some cheese slices out she'd been feeding to the many cats (getting rid of food we couldn't eat), that's how bad it was, also beware the giant cockroaches, so you have to keep your windows closed.
The surrounding area is waste ground and you have to get the bus into Paphos, the local men are constantly leering and pester everyone in a skirt, and as you approach the Hilltop Garden there are no street lights it's totally dark.
I'm fully aware that what bothers some people doesn't bother others, that we've all got differant standards, maybe some people had better rooms maybe not, I'd say from my experience if you've got any standards at all don't stay here.
