we have just returned from a very very disappointing holiday to celebrate our first wedding anniversery. we arrived in the wee small hours and did not really take a careful note of the room until after we had caught up on our sleep. we were appalled at the state of our room to be honest. the bathroom was very smelly, there was suspect brown marks on the tiling, the shower curtain, which used to be white was a filthy mess of soap scum and black marks three quarters of the way up. there was blood on the bedspread. under the sink there as a mass of black fungus growing and the tiles on the floor were in a very bad state of repair. we complained and to give ondine, the thomas cook rep, she worked her magic and witin an hour we had a completely different room, albeit basic. we can do basic but we refuse to accept dirty rooms. the food was basic and very repetitive with beef one night and the next night it was beef again but in a different sauce, same thing happened on the third night, beed again but in a different sauce. i found it difficult to find something of interest to eat. service in the dining room was terrible with tables missing cutlery and no cutlery being available, service by the waiters serving drinks was slow and they most definetely upped the price and charge you for amounts of drinks that you seriously did not have. unfortunatley the bar staff were the same, rip off, rip off. the air conditioning wasnt working and this was reported three times to reception but not once did anyone come to repair it. dont get me wrong the staff were very nice, the maids so happy and thorough. this is never a luxurious hotel as described on some websites, this is a very tired 2/3 star hotel with so so decor, nothing fancy at all, with run of the mill food that lacked imagination. there was no "festival" night in the dining room as expected, all in all we were disappointed because the brochure lists this hotel as "highly recommended" but being honest, i am not sure what it is "highly recommended" for. entertainment staff excellent, very happy people and hard working. we went on the welcome tour. irene was our rep there and we found her rude and aggressive not to mention boring. when we all got on the bus ofcourse we will chat, but she stood up and announced if we were going to talk there was no point in her being there and she might as well go home. we were shocked, that tour with irene is boring, not informative as claimed unless. we went out on the reps caberet night, excellent, bravo, bravo, well worth themoney. £11 in our money and you get a two course meal and two free drinks. felt so entertained by them all. a genuniely good night out for £11. we wont be back (unless anyone thought we would return. we were embarrassed for ourselves at what we had chosen for our very special time but it was "highly recommended" remember. location is bad too. the hotel has its own "private beach" that's a joke, the beds are filthy, filthy, filthy and they cost you 6 dinar which is £3 in our money and oh by the way you pay 2 dinar for a bed round the pool. i have never heard the likes being charged for a bed round the side of a pool and for 2 dinar which is £1 every day = £7 a week or £14 and the ofcouse is you go to the beach more than once you have the pleasure of paying £3 on each occasion. I feel a claim coming on!!

My boyfriend and I came back from Tunisia and the Bel Air last Wednesday, after a fantastic and totally relaxing week.

I was rather apprehensive on the way to the hotel, as I had read some negative reviews of the Bel Air. When we arrived, I realised I need not have worried at all. The staff who greeted us were very friendly, and we were brought a lovely cold drink while we filled out our passport details.

We were taken up to our room, on the third floor, and I was pleasently surprised by the size of our room. It had a good sized bed, wardrobes, dressing table, air con, seperate bathroom with everything you would need. All very basic, but I was very impressed. We also had a small balcony with a mini-table and two chairs that overlooked the pool and the seating areas. My only criticism about the room was that the bed was very very squeaky and a little bit hard.

After unpacking and taking in our surroundings we went down to the restaurant for dinner. It's a self service place, with good choices of soup, salads, always at least 5 different choices of meats and fish, and two choices of pasta. They didn't seem to serve much vegetables, but overall the food was good, always hot and well-cooked. Best of all were the desserts. The health-concious always had a good choice of melon, pears and apples, but it's very hard to resist the mini cakes and tarts on display as well! Definately something to go for if you have a sweet tooth. The staff in the restaurant were really lovely, and on the last night they dressed our table with fresh flowers and rose petals.

The entertainment team really seem to enjoy their jobs, they are very approachable and good with the kids. As well as the evening Mini-disco and Bingo, they organised some excursions and did things like aqua aerobics, arabic lessons and water polo too. Speaking of the pool, my man and I spent a lot of time in the pool in the end (mainly to escape the heat!) and found it to be a good size, nice temperature, always clean and well maintained.

The only real let-down for me was the location of the hotel. The hotel is between Hammamet and Yasmine Hammamet, and it is only a short taxi ride to either (cost about 5 dinars either way, very cheap) But around the hotel itself, there is very little to do. On the first night we walked around and didn't really find much apart from a few bars and shops. The beach is only 5 minutes walk away, but when we went it was very crowded and the sand was so hot we couldn't walk on it. These were just minor things though in an overall excellent holiday experience.

As a final note, I'd like to recommend the 2-day Sahara Trip. We did it on the last two days of our holiday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, would definately do it again.

We have just returned from the Belair Hotel.
Found the staff very nice and helpful, (espcially Meesha and Abdul who are porters)

Entertainment staff left a lot to be desired, felt they were only interested in being tipped. Entertainment was quite boring

Food was not too bad but was quite repetitive bedrooms and bathroom cleaned daily, maids were lovely, be warned though beds are very very hard, not comfortable.

Location is in a street with British bar and Shakespheres resturant
Not sure if I would return to this hotel though I can say we did have a good holiday

Just returned last sunday from Belair and for the cost found it to be good value
Stayed half board over the week only had breakfast once struggled to find something for my daughter not overly impressed with choice but others may find it ok
Evening meals were a lot better good choice of soup salad dishes hot dishes pasta etc and great deserts no problems getting a table most evenings and service of drinks etc was good

Room faced the pool area so not much noise from bars etc room was basic but clean and maids did very good job sheets changed every couple of days room has air con and heating with controls and small balcony overall very comfortable

Hotel location is stuck between Hammamet and yasmine hammamet so to get to either you need taxi which are cheap and plentiful yasmine is newer part custom built and is nice to walk around the marina and the beach area

Found all the staff to be very good and helpful from reception to bar to animation staff all work hard to try and ensure you have good holiday

Not sure i would like to go in the height of summer as pool area may get crowded but the beach is nearby

Overall good value for money clean and no major concerns

just returned yesterday from tunisia. had such an enjoyable time at the bel-air, we are going back next year.

after our coach transfer [which took nearly 2 hours, but, we dropped others off at other hotels] we were greeted by a friendly guy at reception who offered us a glass of lemon drink which, was much appriciated.

Having checked in and been escorted to our room we found it to be clean and well proprtioned. we had a fantastic size bed which was quite comfortable [for someone with a bad back!].

After a few drinks to get us in the holiday mood!, it was dinner time.

The evening dinners all week were excellent, we were going to go out to eat, but, the quality was so good we got back to the hotel to eat after our days out!.

However, breakfast for me was limited. As i cannot eat dairy products, i was limited to dry toast, baguette and chopped up garlic frankfurter sausages. My girlfriend on the other hand was fine with eggs, tomatoes, omlettes etc. For those of a continental bent there were the usual suspects [coissant, pain-au-chocolat, yoghurt etc]. washed down with plenty of good quality coffee.

After a day out and a meal it was time for a beer!. all the bars in the hotel are staffed with really good waiters and bar staff, if you want to watch football or rugby they were more than happy to switch the t.v over for you.

with regards the hotel entertainment, we did not check much out, but, the 'snake charmer' seemed like an excuse for the in-house photographer to take shots as the 'charmer' ran around wrapping reptiles around people necks. The highlight was the one girl who out bellydanced one of the professional bellydancers!

Overall the quality of the service we received from the chamber maids, bar staff, waiters, reception and even the hotel manager was the best treatment i have received outside the states!.

my conclusion, an excellent hotel, fantastic friendly management and staff, i would recommend the hotel bel-air to anyone

What can I tell you, the only thing is go there. I have been 3 times now and planning to go back again next year.

As many people have said the staff are very helpful the entertainment team are out of this world they work long hours catering for everybody all day and all night.

The food is great with a good choice.

The rooms are better now, I remember the first time I went I was at the front where the noisy bars are and heard it most of the night, but since I last went they had double glazing doors put on and its quiet now most nights.

I would sit on the balcony having a drink watching everything that was going on.

There are some good bars and restaurants and shops near by, short taxi journey to the main towns very very cheap.

The beach is only a 5 min walk lots to do and eat and drink very clean too.

I have met some very nice people there they are so laid back and friendly.

There are also lots of trips to go on camel riding mmmmmmmmm stiff bum haha, quad biking if you like it.

I enjoyed it next time I think we are going to try the Sahara dessert trip looking forward to it cant wait really enjoyed the stay at hot belair recommend it to anyone.

We booked & paid for room for 4 people with pool view (based upon previous reviews). I am English but my second language is French.

Been to Hammamet 3 times so knew what to expect.
Although we never expect anything as its a foreign country at the end of the day.

The Bad

We arrived at 4am on the Saturday morning after arriving by private transfers (excellent by the way). They werent expecting us.

They only had one room left (that was interjoining with another for the kids). Which they put us in. This wasnt the room we had booked or paid for, but one that was above the Cheers bar and opposite alot of nightclubs. None of the doors locked, either internal (to the corridor) or external (to balcony). The rooms were not even clean. There were things in the bed to make us think that the sheets hadnt been cleaned. We were devastated. We had paid alot of money to go to this hotel, all of our hearts sunk.
Promptly went down to reception to be told that I 'there was no mention of the poolside view that we had paid extra for' and having asked them to provide me with the booking paperwork that I had previously given him, I showed him exactly where it said the correct rooms. He said that there ws nothing he could do as there was nothing else available. He told me to come back at 10am and they would do something about it. None of us got ANY sleep that night, being very tired having travelled for at 15 hours. It was sooo noisey. It was like having a club in your room. It was awful.

IN the morning we were told to return again after 12 and then again after 1. Eventually a room was ready for us to go to, which was at the other end of the hotel. This was great. For the first week it was very quiet. The second week the lifts didnt work and everyone was using the stairs adjacent to our room (nothing there to stop the door from slamming unfortunatley) So from about 10pm - 10am there was constant noise from the slamming of the door and very noisy people - who lack respect, but who understandably are on holiday. Unfortunately the room was opposite the stairwell.

We were accused of not paying for drinks in the restaurant and I was followed to the entertainment area and in front of everyone, was told that 'I really HAVE to pay for the drinks that we had' - I had to argue with them that I had seen my husband pay for them but to no avail they continued to argue with me. When my husband arrived back I told him and he went into the restaurant, demanded to see the the head waiter and the waiters and demanded that they admit we had already paid, which they did.

At the Four Seasons bar, we were given drinks we didnt ask for, at first we just paid for them thinking it ws a silly mistake, but when I even requested in french for Muscat (aperitif wine) I was given an opened bottle of Dry Muscat - which was horrid, we paid for it and had a little bit before giving it away to someone else. The next time I ordered Muscat in French I had a battle with them as I could see the 'right muscat' onthe shelf. They pretended they didnt know what I was talking about and tried yet again to give me a bottle of the Dry wine, which I was not going to have and pay for again. The waiters were at the bar and also argued that I had told them what I wanted in french and english - they argued to help us.

Unfortunately we found that the everywhere in the hotel except for the 4 Seasons waiters and the Cheers bar, tried to rip us off. We understand that to them we may appear to be rich and based on their low income and very low living expenses it may appear so, but we had been saving for a year to come here and it was our first holiday with my step children as we usually travel alone.

We went to the new Medina (Yasmine) one evening, which was really good but unfortunately they are still very 'male' orientated and both me and my step daughter (only 9) where pushed, kicked, shoved and I was even pushed with the feet of a chair (chair in the air)to get out of the way of a men.

Got stung by Jelly -fish, but the big white sort. Which didnt even feel like an ant bite, nothing to worry about, although looking at one with your goggles on is a bit scarey. I expected to see the tiny ones here which give you a bigger sting, but the big white ones and also portuguese man of war are found frequently here (although more so, at the resorts further south)

The Good

The animation Team, they were absolutely brilliant! If they came to England they would become famous! They were very attentive with the children, they included everyone in their activities (young, small and older), And the all the entertainment was put on by them apart from the Belly Dancing of course, but I am sure if asked they would show you - they were that good. We will be keeping in touch with the team.

The 4 Seasons Waiters, three in particular were great and in the second week along with the animation team really helped to make our holiday

The food in the restaurant, we loved it, yes lots of people are very picky and after seeing alot of bad reviews on here, we expected the worse. I did also see someone wretching - they obviously didnt like it, not sure where they came from but there was something for everyone, fish, meat, veg, salad, cakes, mouse - it was really lovely and they alternated between chips and potatoes daily, the cakes changed daily, the breakfast was continental of course - croisants, cereal, eggs, sausages, bread, tea, coffee, fruit juice and hot chocolate- exactly what you would hope for on hol to another country.

The Beach Restaurant

The people were absolutely lovely. The Barbcue on a Wednesday night is a night not to be missed! Really fantastic. Tunisian Dancing, Food and fun. Every night is party night, the other nights they are always open - alot of nights, there are locals, which for us was better as we really got to meet some lovely locals and learn more about their culture.

The Medina - at night

Wonderful Art exhibition is on at the moment (Aug07). No haggling here though, which was nice. We bought a lovely picture made out of sand - which is amazing. It was like an underground city. Very cool, very nice, alot to see and buy if you wanted.

The owls

There were two owls that perched on a balcony below, very small but very lovely and interesting.

The Roman Ruins Excursion

Fantastic if you like Roman history. Brilliant, we loved it. We also saw an owl sat on a rock right next to where I was standing. lovely.

We enjoyed our holiday, although we had a few problems. Most were ironed out very quickly.

We wont be returning but that will give us an opportunity to try another country. We met some lovely people and will keep in touch with them always.

Your holiday is what you make it. We enjoyed it in the end.

This is a bit late but here it is!!

I stayed here last August and had the best time of my life. Yea, the hotel was a bit dated (has been refurbished and finished today- new bathrooms, double glazing patio doors, halls redone etc) but sure your never in it. We loved going to the beach, sitting by the pool and going outside to watch the entertainment at night. I'm sorry to read that some people had a bad time but you must be REALLY fussy. We are going back again this August and probably the next and next and next......

We had an excellant time in this amazing hotel! the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was nice and there was plenty of choice. The entertainment was by far the best aspect of the hotel as it was fun for not just kids but adults aswell. We particularly liked the entertainer zico as he was always friendly and talking to us. The location was good as it was jst ashort distance from the beach and the main town with also a selection of shops and bars. The only thing bad about the location was the british bar played loud music right through the night and it was sometimes hard to sleep. The place was to a high standard on cleanliness and the rooms were cleaned regularly. We will definately be visiting this hotel in the near future and thank-you to all the staff and entertainers who helped to make this holiday a very enjoyable and fun filled holiday!

The hotel was clean and tidy, beds were changed daily and clean towels were supplied daily. The maids made an extra effort with creative displays of bedding and the kids pyjamas.

Breakfast was basic, but always something to enjoy. Evening meals were excellent, loads to choose from, hot piping dishes, fresh salads and the puddings were wonderful.

The hotel is a short distance from the beach which was between the main town of Hammammet and Yasmine Hammamet (the 5 star resort - very nice). We walked for miles in both directions, lots to do.

Wouldn't have wanted to stay at the main resort of Hammammet, Bel Air was ideal.

Hotel staff were very good, had a lot of fun with our children aged 16,15 and 11, and us. Worked very hard, very nice people.

Nino should be on the telly - a star. Entertainment was okay, the hotel entertainment team worked hard and we enjoyed ourselves.

We went on the two day trip to the Sahara which was brilliant, went to visit loads on the way there but the camel trip along the Sahara was well enjoyed by us all, wow!

We would visit this hotel again and definitely Tunisia, however we loved Yasmine and would be keen to try there next time.

We booked this holiday before checking on here all the bad reports about this place. We read all the reports about music etc but just thought it was the odd few people.
Please note that I'm not the person to complain normally. I love my holidays and couldn't wait to go, despite being a little concerned. So we asked the travel agent to make sure we were put in a quiet room as we had a 7month old baby.

How can I explain how awful the BEL AIR really is??? We turned up at night, and I put my little girl n her cot, only to notice that a WHOLE bar was missing in the side, easy enough for a 7month old to slip her arm and upper body out of. I stormed downstairs crying my heart out to be met by a FRENCH travel rep, who could hardly understand me, she came upstairs saw the cot, and immediately went down and asked the staff to change it (I only realised later that she didn't even fill out a report about the COT being unsafe (hence me crying as my little girl had fallen through the bar slightly and screamed for a few minutes in fright.) The cot was changed and replaced with another cot in which the mattress was too small, we actually had to shove pillows between the mattress and edge of the cot so she didn't fall down the gap, even the rep wasn't pleased (but still didn't fill out a report!!!) and we were put above Cheers Bar!!!!! Blaring Music until 2am!!!! That stopped but then we had the music from the British Bar opposite until 4:30 am!!!! I complained next day to the day manager and he said, he would try to move us but we would have to wait for 4 days !!!

My 7mth old daughter cried and cried and cried, I ended up taking her downstairs to the lobby and rocking her in her buggy to get her off to sleep as it was quiet then taking her back up.

The following night it was the same, at 12pm in the afternoon we went upstairs for a rest and ended up sleeping until 6pm that eveinign that's how tired we were.

The food wasn't brilliant and they put back our eating time by 1/2 hour!!!!!! The cereal was nice but the hot food left alot to be desired. I normally eat anything but here it was just terrible. Half the time you didn't know what you were even eating. The tables were all cramped together with hardly enough room to move in between to get to the counters. You did get chips about twice a week but still they didn't taste like normal chips.

The entertainment around the pool was good though during the day and the water aerobics were great fun. But although the entertainers tried hard the evening entertainment was worse than a Butlins wannabee camp, very very bad.

Upon arriving back home I found I had lost 1/4 of a stone I can only put that down to lack of sleep and poor food, a couple of days later my ears were so sore, really throbbing and painfully excruciating. I went to the doctors who told me I had one of the worst ear infections he had come across in both ears. I actually had puss coming out of them. He asked where I had been swimming lately and I said " well just on holiday " and he was disgusted, he said the pool must have been extremely dirty, and when we looked back at our holiday photos you can actually see that the pool had turned almost brown one day.

I WILL NEVER EVER go back to this hotel again, I was going to put a report in with the travel agents but I didn't see the point. I just hope no-one else gets as bad an holiday as us, as I just wanted to cry the whole time I was there.

Hi to everyone who stayed in August. On arrival (3am) we were allocated 2 rooms above the disco, we were promptly moved to a much nicer and quieter family room, but it had no air conditioning in one of the rooms.

We were allocated 2 pool view rooms as soon as possible which were lovely.

We were dissapointed to find out that you had to pay for your sunloungers by the pool, as this was not mentioned in the brochure.

The breakfast was basic but the evening meals were great.
10/10 for zico, nino and kaka for their hard work everyday, and also for bilel who was great fun.

Teenagers will love this holiday as it is lively and their is snooker and pool tables in cheers bar.

We were very lucky as we met lots of lovely people on this holiday. A special hello to Georgie, Tom, Justin, Connor, Kieran, Shannon, Carl and everyone else.

We travelled as a party of 13 to the hotel Belair. The hotel in general is kept very clean, but the toilets in the reception and bar areas were not checked regularily. Several times we had to tell reception that there was no toilet paper or that people had been sick and that they needed to clean them. Your request was always dealt with immediately by the reception staff though.

The food in the evenings was very good, although you are better to go in a bit later so that you do not have to queue to get it. The only let down was breakfast which, most mornings, consisted of pastries, jam, cold meat, feta cheese, hard boiled eggs, hard baked beans and tasteless hot dog sausages cut into bits. If you were very lucky you might get the occasional fried or scrambled egg.

We had lunch on the beach and at the hotel pool bar, all were excellent. The staff at the beach were very helpfull.

The noise of an evening was a bit of a nuisance. We were in the middle of the hotel at the front and could hear music blairing until about 4am everyday. We are quite heavy sleepers, so it wasn't too much of a problem, but if you are a light sleeper you need to ask for low numbered rooms as these are away from the noise. Some people complained to reception and were offered ear plugs.

The external shows were excellent but the shows that the hotel put on were weak. The entertainment staff worked hard and were good fun. Ask Nino if he enjoyed getting dumped in the pool for smearing cake all over one of our parties face on his birthday.

You will need to take plenty of travellers cheques as you cannot book anything to your room and pay by credit card at the end of your stay.

The only reason we would not return to the hotel is we wouldn't want to risk getting a noisier room.

We arrived after a long transfer from the airport (2 hours) and thought it looked a nice hotel and we were going to have a nice holiday. How wrong were we!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as it was night time, it was a different story, as our room faced a night club on the main road, the music BLASTED till 05.00am every morn even with the balcony doors closed, the noise was still bad. We have a eight year old daughter and were angry as the reception knew that before we were appointed the room. We complained to reception the next morning only to be told there was no available rooms to move to but we could have some EAR PLUGS if we wanted I also complained to our rep who said she could move us on the following Saturday but as we were leaving on the Sunday that was no help at all.

The kids club was closed and that was because they had no one to run it??????????

When we got home I had to bring my daughter to the doctors , he said she had picked up numerous affections from the pool, I was given three types of medication for her including ear drops and skin cream we had booked to go to Egypt, but with the bomb scares we changed it...how I wish we never did. Will def be going to Egypt next year!!!!!

The food was not very nice at all; in fact I lost weight while I was there as I lost my appetite.

We stayed at the Bel-air hotel we thought it was a nice hotel.

Quite nice inside (looks quite posh),

The pool was really good very big and a good pool for children.

The hotel entertainment was okay but the hotel staff tried there best. They played bingo every night spoken in about four different languages so it went on for ages. Marks of 4 for trying.

The hotel was a bit out of the way of everything and we had to get taxis to the current shopping places which were quite nice. It was only about 3dinar about (2.50) in our money which was quite cheap, trouble is they all sell the same thing from stall to stall ha-ha.

The food was quite nice at the hotel quite a lot to choose from the puddings were lovely plenty of selection.

Get your henna tattoos on the Bel-air beach the lady that comes around is much cheaper and last just as long.

Having just come back from 2 weeks at the Bel-Air, we would say that the only thing that let the hotel down was the quality and variety of food available. We don't necessarily expect all the trimmings you would get if you ate out at a restaurant, but we didn't really ever feel we had a proper meal. This was mainly due to the fact that the variety was very sporadic.

Maybe it was due to the room being at the front of the hotel instead of overlooking the pool, (around which the entertainment was going on) but the apparent noise issues raised by previous reviewers was never really an issue as far as we were concerned.

The entertainment team really put in a lot of effort, especially for the kids, whom it would be fair to say the entertainment is aimed towards.

There is a section of beach which is for Bel Air guests which is lovely, and has its own 'Bel Air Barbecue' which provides drinks and snacks throughout the day. There was an organised evening on the beach with a sit-down meal/barbecue, music and break-dancers! This was by far one of the best evenings we had.

All in all, we cannot really complain, the hotel was comfortable and perfectly adequate for our needs, the staff (especially the bar staff) were helpful and friendly and we had a wonderful holiday.

The room was cleaned and fresh towels left every day.

The entertainment staff were great fun, Nino, Zico and Kaka made for fun and entertaining days and evenings.

The comedy and Drag shows were a laugh, audience participation is a must.

Food was good and plentiful with a choice of about six main courses, with salad and soup for starters.

The Madina was not to my or my wifes liking (people to pushy for our tastes). The walk back from the Madina along the beach is a must.(About one and a half hours).

The beach was cleaned every day, and the beach cafe served cheap and tasty food.

Overall a very good holiday.(Already booked for next year).

Very mixed feelings about this particular hotel and very difficult to assign a suitable number of "stars" for each category but will try to explain:

Cleanliness:

apart from one cocroch who greeted me on arrival in the allocated room at 3am... hotel was very clean but a bit "messy" in a way "disorganised" at meal times in the restaurant.

Hotel Food:

was ok but not a big choice really (copmaring to other hotels I stayd in while in Tunisia that is). I did not like not having "my own" table for the duration of my stay and found very often that there were free tables but they were not being set up fast enough (clened up after previous dinners) etc etc, generally a bit sloppy waiter service in the main restaurant to be honest

Hotel location:

is a really tough one to mark. On one side the location is absolutely fantastic with a small supermarket at the end of the little road (cheap cigarettes, water etc), British Bar to one side and Havana and Latino bars on the other with Las Palmas and a "Pub" directly on the ground floor - that is great if you are after partying all night, perfect. On the other side - if you try to go to sleep before 4-5 am, that may be difficult with the noise (music on full blast) coming in from ever direction. I personally like music, party, drinks etc but I like to chave a choice of when I want/can go to sleep. At Bell Air I did not have any choice with the constant noise. I would believe that pushing it, 2 am would be reasonable (for me) but to have this till 4-5 am EVERY night was a bit much for me.

Other that that - right in the middle between Hammamet Yasmine and Old Hammamet. Short taxi ride either way will take you to completely different parts of Hammamet, enjoyed visiting both of them.

Not right on the beach but about 5-10 minute walk - not a problem.

Noise (music) till early hours was a BIG problem.

Hotel staff:

main restaurant waiters a bit disorganised, reception fine, maids fantastic, generally very good staff.

Entertainement:

Went on the terrace twice only and personally found it quite boring, geared towards kids mostly. Have not used to pool (had a pool view from the room but prefered to go the beach) so can not comment on day time entertainement by the pool.

Generally - I would go back to Bell Air but taking some ear plugs with me next time :)

Hi to all..stayed at this hotel for two weeks starting on the 28/05/06.

The room we had was overlooking the pool which was quite nice it was very basic but spotlessly clean the towels and sheets e.t.c. were changed every day ...we where on a half board basis.

The breakfast was not too impressive but you can cope with it just. The night time dinner was better and you could allways find something. The meals that should have been hot were. The sweets where very good(ate too many of those). The hotel was about ten minutes walk from the beach and there where plenty of taxis about and cheap to hire.

The hotel staff in the main were very pleasant there is allways the odd one who can not be bothered but no problems.

The entertainment staff worked very hard and were always about if you wanted to be entertained.

Whilst the holiday was value for the money we paid we would not return to this hotel.

Just back from our third visit to the BelAir.

Everyone recognised us soon as we arrived and we were given a free round of drinks in each of the bars we were in. Had a good room overlooking the pool although one of the lifts developed problems so it was a bit of a climb to the third floor at times!

Food was a bit disappointing as they catered for grown-ups with not a great deal of thought for kids, and one night we ate out as my daughter saw little to tempt her taste buds. They do put a lot of work in but little thought it seems to who is eating it, as not everyone wants to sample the local cuisine and a lot of people do wish to eat similar food to back home.

Bar staff were tremendous, Milad in particular deserves a special mention - live your dream, mate! Pool was kept clean by the hard-working Said.

The Entertainment team worked hard and did their best and being amateurs then credit is due. There are two bars attached to the BelAir, Cheers bar and our favourite, the Liverpool (or Las Palmas) Bar.

Enlish lady runs this, very well indeed it has to be said, and the food/drink is superb (all-day two beers for the price of one, 9pm onwards two spirits for the price of one, thumbs up here!).

Friday nights in there you have a Professional Drag Show which is fantastic. The Entertainment team in the hotel run one also on a Friday but as we'd seen this four times, and took part once, it was time for a wee change.

Had a fantastic week in superb weather.

My daughter and I arrived late at night and were greeted by the friendly hotel staff. A slight hiccup with our room not being made up was rectified within minutes. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough to help you.

The food was more than adequate and catered for most tastes.

The entertainment team were friendly and deserve medals. They are not professional but put their hearts and soul in to it.

Chambermaids were efficient and spent that little bit of extra time to make your room feel like home.

Spa and indoor pool are clean and well kept. Well worth treating yourself to a massage but certainly not for the more retiring person! The indoor pool is really warm.

You can change money at reception at any time of day or night so don't bother doing it at the airport on arrival.

Immigration is a pain in the neck! It took us over an hour to get through and at the time we were going through only two planes had landed! I dread to think what it is like at the height of the summer.

I was dreading this holiday after reading some of the reviews on this site, expecting hoardes of noisy, badly behaved children led by a bunch of half wit "entertainers". However it was absolutely excellent, apart from the loud music late at night, it was a very quiet relaxing place.

Everything spotlessly clean, apart from the poolside loos, which to be fair were old and needed replacing. Towels & sheets changed everyday.

For a 3* hotel, the food was excellent, lots of choice for everyone. The majority of guests are English or Irish, so they try to cater to our tastes, most dishes were familiar. Soup or huge variety of cold salad type buffet to start. Then around 3 main courses, plus a fish and pasta dish, with some type of potato, rice or couscous and veg. Deserts were lovely, lots of different gateaux & cakes, fresh fruit. Plus as it's all buffet, you can have as much or as little as you want, my husband frequently had seconds of everything.

Breakfasts were very repetitive and there was no fresh fruit, which was very disappointing.

All staff very pleasant and helpful, all speak excellent English, with the exception of the night time reception staff, but you can still understand each other.

As it was the last week of the main holiday season, the animation team were winding down. They still did the bingo & various night time events, ie belly dancer, snake charmer, quizzes, transvestite show etc. Again, I thought that we would avoid these like the plague, however they were all just harmless fun. They aren't professional entertainers, just kids trying to fund further education. They work very hard to try to make sure everyone has a good time, although Nino was a bit taxing after a while.

My only complaint is the loud music which comes from a late night bar/dicso. The week we stayed the majority of guests were retired or middle aged couples, so we could not understand the need for the racket into the early hours. It must be frequented by holiday makers from other hotels, although we never visited it, so don't know. Even so, we still managed to sleep through it mostly.

The pool is quite big, although it was very cold at this time of year, but the indoor pool was lovely and warm. Our 5 year old loved 10 pin bowling, although it was not cheap.

Also the weather was absolutely lovely. Considering it was last week in October, temperatures around 80 every day, but fairly chilly in evening, so at least it was not too hot to sleep. Only around 7 hours of sunshine, dark by arond 5-5.30pm. It was also Ramadam, however this did not effect us at all.

We had a very nice relaxing family holiday, would certainly return to this hotel, but only out of season when it's quiet, as I'm sure it would be hell in the main summer months.

Entertainment good kids loved the mini disco and Nino really got involved with the kids every day.

We would definitely recommend this hotel for families.

I would not go back to this hotel it was not like it was advertised. It was dirty. I do not go away with high standards as you would in our own country due to the fact that this nation is not a rich nation. But the over friendlyness of staff towards younger children would be classed as something totally different in this country but they get away with it

The food is disgusting I went down every night for the week I was there and I ended up going elsewhere for food.

I will not be going back there.

We have just returned from a fortnight at the Hotel Bel Air and we are homesick for it. This was our first trip to Tunisia and we loved it so much we have already booked to go back next year. We have booked back into the Hotel Bel Air.

The hotel is very clean, the rooms are cleaned every day, the towels changed every day and the sheets approx every 3rd day. Your bed was always made beautifully, with little flowers and your own towels folded into a lovely swan. My daughters cuddly cat had a flower placed in its collar. All the cleaning staff are very pleasant and very honest and trustworthy. Every room has air-conditioning included in your price.

The half board food was totally acceptable. We must admit that the breakfasts were a bit repetative, (and the toaster took forever!!) but it is so cheap to buy the odd breakfast elsewhere that we did not consider this a problem. The evening meals varied every night of our fortnight stay, we expected to be eating the same food after the first week, but it did not repeat itself. There was always at least 3-4 meat choices, a pasta dish, fish and a vegeterian option, usually with a choice of boiled potatoes, mash, chips or rice. My 5 year old had no problems with any of the food and we were all well catered for each night.

The location was spot on. Just a stones throw from the beach and the exceptionally cheap water sports. A short walk to a few local shops, restaurants and nightclubs. A taxi, costing no more than £2.00, will get you to just about anywhere else you want to be. The medinas and markets were great fun and we got loads of bargains. Don't be fooled into believing that you cannot leave the resort or go anywhere, this is nonsense. We ventured out almost every day. The two females of our party often went a walk at night with no problems or hassels. We met a family, who on the day before their last, told us that they had not left the hotel grounds for the entire 2 weeks as they were too scared!! Madness. People like this give Tunisia a bad name.

The hotel staff were pleasant and very accommodating, we had a slight problem with our room on the first day and they had us re-allocated within 10 minutes, infact they gave me a choice of keys and let me choose my own room. The hotel waiters were so nice. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They are constantly walking round the sunbed area and you do not need to even move to get a drink. They took our beers right down to the poolside for us! They do not assume that the change is a tip and always give you it back. They all took a huge liking to my 5 year old daughter and were so nice to her. She was given an ice cream on more than one occasion as a gift from them!

There are some guys in the hotel foyer selling priate ship trips, camel rides, jet skiing etc. They ask you on your first day, if you give them a clear no, they leave you alone. On speaking with our Tour Rep, she then recommended that we book with them as they were cheaper than her trips and just as well organised. So we did and they quite happily gave us free child places (which the rep could not) when we were cheeky enough to ask.

The poolside is well maintained. You need to get up early to get your sunbed (thanks to our friends who did this every day for us!), but once claimed it is yours for the day and Sa'id the Lifeguard will make sure of this. He is also amazingly nice and constantly up to mischief!!!

The Entertainment Team, Moez, Nino, Zico, KaKa, Kimo and Ghazza, are a group of guys employed by the Hotel to entertain you. They work very long hours, (9am to midnight, 7 days a week) for very little or no wage, and the smiles do not leave their faces all day. They will entertain you by the pool, but, if you ask them to leave you alone they most certainly will. They have an entertainment programme laid on for every night. Again, we expected the 2nd week to be a repeat of the 1st, but it was not. Evening entertainment starts every night with a kids minidisco, then the fantastic Nino headlines a game of bingo for you every night. It may appear to drag a bit, but bare in mind that this guy is reading the bingo numbers in at least 3 languages every night. (He speaks 8 languages fluently and all the Entertainment crew speak at least 3 languages) He tries very hard and he makes it very funny. The show after bingo varied from Snake Charmers, to Belly Dancers to the Transvestite Cabaret Nite and these are then followed by a conga line which leads onto a disco until midnight. Children are welcomed from the onset of the minidisco until the very last minute, they are never made to feel like "their part" is finished.

The entertainment team are fantastic with your children. The Tunisian people as a whole absolutely adore children, but these entertainers make your child feel like they are the only child on holiday and that they personally will play with them for the entire fortnight, and they don't disappoint. Our absolute favourites were Zico and Nino. My shy little 5 year old girl totally came out of herself by the 3rd day. They had her up doing minidisco, on stage helping with ballots, chased her around the hotel, played with her in the pool. She actually had a slight accident on the last day wherein she managed to bite her tongue and produced quite a bit of blood, every single entertainer came to us to help calm her down and cheer her up and you could tell that they were genuinely concerned about her. Our bus was an hour late collecting us to go to the airport and Zico and Nino stayed with us, during their own dinner break, and "entertained" us, kept our little girl laughing and had us laughing as the bus pulled out of the hotel. I have never met people like them.

One of the adults in our party was unfortunate enough to end up in hospital (details of which I am sure she will be leaving in her own review!). As soon as Nino from the entertainment team heard about this he was in a taxi to the hosptial to visit her. And her continued to visit her during her stay. Suffice to say her hospital stay was a short one, but could have dragged if Nino had not got involved and helped to get her discharged. The Hospital was something from the space age and quite frankly puts our NHS hospitals to shame. In our opinion this was above and beyond the call of a normal hotel worker and we were very touched. (The hospital stint did not put her off, she has also re-booked for next year back to the Bel Air)

I have read the mixed reviews on this site and can only presume that some of the other people went with exceptionally high expectations and were therefore disappointed. We found the hotel to be perfect for us as a family and our friends as a young couple.

(PS, if the germans annoy you on Spanish Holidays, be warned the French were our biggest annoyance on this Tunisian holiday, arrogant and rude would be an understatement)

CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR......

The hotel was excellent, very clean the maids come into the rooms everyday and clean and change your towels and then they make pretty shapes with them and the covers.

Hotel food very good plenty of choice but if you want typical English food then this is not for you.

The hotel is situated in a nice place and not too far from the beach, it is only a 5 minute walk.

A short taxi ride to the medinas in Hammamet and Hammamet yasmine.Hotel staff are very polite and very helpful.

Entertainment staff especially Nino are fantastic he is the crazy boy himself, and you have never heard bingo been called out the way he does it.

I would definately visit this hotel again thanks to Nino, KaKa and Zico for making it fun all day long.

I have just returned home 2 days ago, we stayed at the Bel Air and had a fantastic time everyone is so friendly. I miss every one already and have booked to go in October.

You do get hassled by the men in reception to book camel and boat trips but after all they are just doing their jobs and trying to make a living and they are really nice.

The hotel is very clean.

The food is very nice a varied selection.

I can't fault the hotel in any way. The music is loud but it does say in the brochure that this is a lively hotel so if you want a peaceful holiday stay clear as this is not the hotel for you.

The entertainment is ok the kids love it and the entertainers Nino, Kaka, Zico and Kimo also Ghaza and Moez.

The food at the hotel is the worst I havve tasted. There was absolutely nothing that kids would eat some evenings. We would have been better sc as we ate out most days. The breakfast was not worth getting up for.

The standard of cleanliness left a lot to be desired. I am sure the towels were not washed but only dried.

Hassled as soon as you went down stairs for camel trips. boat trips, photos on beach. We found the staff arrogant and only interested in money.

The entertainment was very boring and repetitive. Bingo every night which takes 30 min for one game. Mini disco 30 min. Staff don't seem to understand that some people like a quiet holiday and don't want to hear "Water Polo" screamed at them while sunbathing. In fairness the enetertainers did try hard but it was boring after 2 weeks.

We had to be moved room as we were above Las Palmas bar which belted out music until 4am.

It is in quite a bad area and there is nothing to do and don't feel safe going out alone. Jasmine is near by and seems like a differn't world compared to the Bel Air area.

It was our first and last time in Tunisia and felt the constant hassle from locals too much. The males at the hotel are leeches and only interested in British woman for money and visas. Any age, shape and size seems to do.

Toilets at the pool are used for inapropriate purposes during the night. This holiday was a total waste of money.

Myself and my friend stayed in the bel air in 2005 and the best bit about it was getting back on the plane to come home. We were told this was a 4* hotel I would say 2* would suit better.

The food was awful we starved for 2 weeks. our room was unihabitable and our so called rep did absolutely nothing to help us. I demanded that our room be changed and our rep told us to wait in reception to see what she could do. We sat in reception from 6am till 3pm dressed in jeans and jumpers as we had just arrived.

At 3pm I had to go and try to get us another room myself as the rep did not bother to come back until the next day. I would never travel with panorama again as I was totally disgusted with the way we were treated.

I must say that the second room was far better. The bel air is surrounded by discos and nightclubs which go on till 4am or 5am in the morning so if you like your sleep dont bother to book.

The entertainers were very friendly and helpful but the people that sat in reception trying to sell excursions were very persistent and pushy so much so that we tried to avoid walking through reception area.

Would not stay in this hotel again as I have been to Tunisia several times before and know how great some of the hotels are.

I will state again that the panorama rep was the most unhelpful person I have ever met and I will never use the company again.

I stayed for two weeks the staff were arrogant and the food was disgusting the only pleasure I had was the one knowing I was going home.

My husband requested gluten and dairy free food they told him he could have the veg but the veg had dairy on it and the plate of grilled meat they brought him as soon as you cut into it, it had blood running out.

The toilets leaked (do it tomorrow is the responce we got). The water even ran yellow sewage all though I constantly asked about the food and another room they just did not want to know.

You are woken up every morning with the court jokers screaming water polo.
And you will be confronted by cockroachs when you use the loos.

The balcony alive with red ants they give me a can of spray to kill the ants.

My view this hotel is not a 3* I would not give it a 1* I feel sorry for the people that say that it was nice I have photos to say its not a nice place to go to so don't waste your money.

My husband says this hotel is like the prison from film midnight express. You will also be talked into paying to reserve your seats to go home but believe me do not fall for it half the plane was empty.

Catering is for the French and Germans there is plenty English bars serving food though.

We found the hotel to be very clean and tidy. Our regular maid decorated our bed with rose petals and made swans with the towels. Excellent.

The food was excellent also, although we did eat out occasionally, we didn’t really need to.

Bel Air is fairly near to the beach, a 10 minute stroll and has its own section. The location we found irrelevant as taxis are everywhere and very reasonable, also courteous and friendly drivers, as were all the locals.

This is such a friendly hotel where you are made to feel welcome and at home. We will definitely be back

Just got back from a 2 weeks stay at the BelAir - we chose the hotel cos it was by far the cheapest base for us to explore a bit of tunisia - £275 half board for 2 weeks. The hotel is very clean, the food was excellent whenever we stayed in to eat, and the breakfasts were very nice. Unfortunately the hotel is a little to bit 'butlins' for my tastes. Loud (and awful) music by the pool, along with a backdrop of bratty kids and equally bratty parents meant we were rarely in the hotel. The staff are friendly enough but are far to eager to get everyone shouting on the poolside than just letting people relax. fortunatley the hotel Byblos across the road has an EXCELLENT pool and you won't be troubled by scally families who feel obliged to where football shirts every minute of every day.
We had an excellent holiday, and the holiday was brilliant considering the amount we paid, and if cheesy hotel entertainment is your thing then go nuts. If you'd like anything even approaching classy then you might be better stopping down the road in a hotel in Yasmine, or maybe further afield in Port-El-Kantoui.

This hotel is very relaxing.

Rooms are cleaned every day to a good standard, the food also was good plenty to choose from, the waiters and all staff were very helpful, all spoke good English, and would help you in any way possible.

Location was good, beach was a 5 minute walk watersports were very cheap. There were lively bars if you want them.

Belair has 3 bars, Cheers bar is good fun normally closes between 3 & 4am, with the added bonus of having Sky sports. The entertainment staff are very good Sam, Nino, Gazza, Cha-cha,and (das is good) are all good fun, also Saide and Billy the lifeguards like a laugh.

Cabaret nights are good fun if you like dressing up which Martin and myself did. Also recommend the 2 day safari.

We was a party of 11 and all had a great holiday, thanks Belair

Having just arrived home from the Belair Hotel we feel home sick, as the staff there made us feel so much at home.

My 5 year old son Jordan had a really fabulous time he hasn't stopped talking about his friend Sam, (one of the animation team). Sam, Nico and Gassa were so much fun encouraging guests to join in or helping to let guests relax by entertaining the kids.

This was our first time in Tunisia it will not be our last and the Bel Air will be our first choice. Thanks lads for a holiday to remember.

Myself and two friends holidayed in the Bel Air Hotel, Hammamet for a week recently (23/08/2004 to 03/09/2004). The only complaint I have is that the week went too quickly.

The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious plenty of variety (especially the delicious pancakes).

Our room was cleaned every day and the cleaning staff were wonderful. The Animation Group who provided the entertainment were extremely entertaining and worked hard day and night providing activities for small children and big children like ourselves.
A special word of thanks must go to Sam and Nico who provided us with fun and laughs galore.

Also a note of appreciation to the staff of the Cheers Bar who kept us entertained till all hours of the morning. I am sure that they are catching up on some well earned rest since our departure. I would highly recommend this hotel to couples and singles alike.

My 2 friends and I stayed in the Belair Hotel in Hammamet for one week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and airy. The nightly shows were good and I liked the fact that children were made a fuss off. Cheers bar was great fun where you could sing and dance the night away. Much emphasis was placed on entertainment in this Hotel where you were allowed to relax by the pool if you wanted but there were different activities available to those who wanted to play water polo, and other games. Keep up the good work, Sam, Nico and rest of crew.I would recommend this hotel for its friendly staff and proximity to the beach.

The hotel was the cleanest i have been to with the room being cleaned every day, the food was very repetitive, i never want to see watermelon again! Breakfast was awful, way too sugary at that time in the morning for me.
Location was okay, near to the beach but not much else around.
Staff were polite and waiters were very helpful.
Entertainment was like Butlins, very tacky and very noisy. Hearing the train song twice a night was too much and the kids disco was was too repetitive. the hotel only seems to cater for families.
Would not visit again as it was way too noisy, I went on holiday to relax and have some peace and the loud music was just to much.

Impressed enough with the Bel Air to return again in 2005, and we are so looking forward to it.

Pool was clean, well looked after, and the alert Said and Billy deserve great credit for what they do.

Entertainment team put a lot into things, during the day. Pool games were always a laugh with Sam and Mimi (now left to work in France) keeping things going - though Mimi's choice of music was a bit off, don't think it helped the waiters constantly changing it. At night they worked hard again, join in the cabaret - I did, and loved it!!

Food needs variety, and remembering they are catering for kids as well as adults.

Location wasn't the greatest in that it's 7Km from Hammamet, however, taxis are cheap and plentiful so it wasn't a huge problem.

The beach is only a quarter of a mile walk and fine.

Clean hotel, maid services were really good.

For lunchtime food, the Strand (round the corner to the left) is a great option, cheap and good food.

Can't wait to go back!!!!

I thought that the hotel was great. The staff were friendly and Mimi and Sam did a good job entertaining and Billy and Saeid the lifeguards were a great laugh although they pushed me in the pool alot!!

Bowling was fun and affordable and all staff were friendly.
its really near the beach and there were lots of shops about aswell.

There was plenty to do all day and night and the bars were very good and lively.
I would definitly recommend and would definitly want to go again without 2nd thoughts

The food was repetitive and bland,if you went for your meal later in the service time the food was not replinished and there was hardly anything left. The air-conditioning in the rooms was very poor and you could not leave doors or windows open because of the noise from the surrounding bars and discos. We didnt appreciate the waiters in the bars ripping us off by never having change and not coming back with any, we always tip staff and this was unnecessary. When we arrived we were given a very bad room with a leaky toilet and not clean, when we complained we were told that there were no other rooms as they were full, we later found out this was untrue and we were given a much bigger and better room the following morning. If you don't like disco's you may find the hotel too noisy. If you like Butlins type entertainment then this is the place for you.

We visited the hotel as our honeymoon, and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. To us the food was ok but we ate out in different restaurants more often than not. The rooms were cleaned everyday, and the cleaners did an excellent job, of the whole hotel aswell as our room.
The location of the hotel is great being only a 5 minute walk from the beach. We also went on a copule of the excursions from the hotel which were great and very memorable.
We were extremely pleased with the 2 entertainers Mimi and Sam, who made our stay in the complex complete, and gave us an unforgetable honeymoon. They were both full of energy and laughter, and were there for your every need.
We were so happy with everything, we rebooked within 24 hours of being home to go back next year.
So to Sam, Mimi, and all the hotel staff see you next year.

We had a great holiday in Tunisia, staying at the Hotel Bel Air. We found the staff very helpful, friendly and they made us feel most welcome. The food was good, plenty of choice, and one could eat as much as you liked. The meats were not as well cooked as I would like, so thats something to watch out for. Deserts were good and lots of different choices, also fresh fruit was on offer, Thre was a great selection of salds. They were wonderful. Also there was a choice of two soups. So there was no need for anyone to be hungry, Breakfast was good two, Different breads, rolls, cold meats, lots of eggs, good choice of cerials etc. Fresh juices, coffee or tea. The rooms were cleaned every day. the hotel was very clean. The engertainers Mimi and Sam are great. They are always in great form and smiling. They work very hard and long hours and are great with everyone. They manage to remember everyone and make them feel special. Yes I woul recomend this resort and hotel
