| said: STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!! We had £780 worth of stuff stolen from our room on Xmas night (anything valuable that wasn’t in the safe such as perfumes, sunglasses, make-up etc). The door hadn’t been forced and there was no evidence of a break-in, so whoever did it must have had access to a key. When we reported the crime to the hotel manager he tried to tell us that we must have left the door open, which was impossible as we are extremely security conscious and always check we’ve locked the door as we leave. Then he said that it was impossible for anyone to have got hold of the key or to have copied the key! We were so upset after the incident we asked if we could move rooms, they gave us a room with a safe that didn’t even work and the balcony window wasn’t lockable! At no time did we receive an apology or offer of recompense in any way. As we had told other guests what had happened to us, the staff’s attitude towards us really changed. We were regarded warily and given none of the usual smiles and greetings that we had been getting up to that point. We were made to feel as if the burglary was our fault or that we were making it up! We even had to go by ourselves to the police station in a taxi and spent 2 hours there getting a police report made out. Our Med Hotels rep charged us £52.00 to change hotels; the Soviva was even going to charge us a cancellation fee when we had already paid for the holiday in full, but the Rep managed to have that waived. The hotel also had other issues such as shabby décor, pool tables broken, the indoor “heated” pool wasn’t warm enough to swim and the internet connection was always down, this made it difficult to enjoy a winter holiday there. I will say though that the food at the Soviva was always lovely.
We moved to the Horia palace which was a fantastic hotel with much better amenities and we got a very warm welcome personally from the hotel manager which really put us at our ease.

| said: I stayed at the soviva during Christmas with my boyfriend it was the most dreadful holiday ever, I couldn’t have planned a worse one.
I was a victim of racial abuse by the holiday reps at the hotel. They were constantly making calling me abusive names or begging for money off my boyfriend. The male rep's were trying it on with my boyfriend!
The food was awful and the entertainment was unbelievably shocking. I will never step foot back in to the country and never advise people to go to this hotel.

| said: I have just returned from a holiday to Tunisia after going to the Golden Soviva with 9 family members.
7 within the first week had food poisoning from eating in restaurant number 2 and had to have injections and treatement, which was at a cost of £40 per person 50 dinars a dr £25 and 64 for medicine.
The weather was good, staff were friendly and pool was good, howevers, that is all this had going for it.
Beer is served from chipped glasses wich are generally warm. The spirits are poor quality leaving bitter aftertaste and you can only get two small glasses at once unless tipping the barman for a big glass, which I reccomend you then keep for your holiday.
The food in restuarant is dire, with roaches having been seen in the tea compartment, limited choice and dried or poor salad. The rep will tell you there is only one kitchen which is not true. Restaurant 2 is for brits and number 1 is for half board and everyone else.
We complained and found that number 1 cooks 15 dishes compairedto number 2 which only does 10 and believe me fatmas fingers everynight are not good. Restaurant 1 is far better with nicer staff, so demand to be in there or be prepared to be ill.
Taxi rides into the port are around 1.8-2.5 dinars on the meter about £1 or 5 dinars £2 fixed price, so generally opt for the meter. Although go for a fied 8 dinar price into Sousse as this retails at around 1 dinars on the meters.
There isnt much in the way of entertainment, the entertainment at the hotel is the same every night and rather boring. Eating out is a must, either at the rose and crown english pub or steak house in sousse, good meals. Along with the Irish bar in the port which has limited choice, but nice drinks and food.
As for trips, Eljem is worthwhile seeing as it the reps cabaret, only because of the very very good drag act. The camel caravan was good fun, although the animals are mistreated and had rocks thrown at them by the trainers n=and you will get to see how poor tunisia is on the journey there and see the rubbish littered everywhere.
Avoid the boat trips, they take you nowhere, out to sea with no scenery and nothing to be seen, then bac again and try to fleece you for photos wearing a tacky pirate hat, then for a pieceo cloth they put around your head.
The fruigiu zoo is good though and worthwhile going to see, for the lions elephants and animals, probably the best outdoor trip we went on.
Tips for haggling at the medina, whatever they start at you can at least half it and i you are good generally get what u want for a third of their starting price, provided you start low.
Another slight moan or advice is, if you want vinegar take you own, you just can't see to get it anywhere and also take you own pint glasses to ensure you get pints at the bar.
Anyone who has been to turkey and expects this to be similar will be sadly dissapointed, would I go again ? never

The beds were large and comfy. The rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels.
There was lots of choice of food, hot and cold, the only negative would be the ammount of people in the dining room.
The hotel staff were lovely and very accomodating.
The location was fine 5 mins walk from the beach where you can eat and drink as much as you wanted all day in the snack bar.
The lads on the beach were lovely and very good at there job, making sure everybody was safe.
We would definitely go here again.

| said: My comments mirror what has been said by others about this hotel.
One thing also to consider is the outside pool is not heated. This is not a problem say from May onwards but in the April when we were there it was FREEZING.
The beach was very dirty and well fertilized by the donkey and camel rides. The entertainment was very poor and if you are all inclusive you are reluctant to find alternative entertainment because you will have to pay for your drinks else where.
It seems there has been no improvement in the entertainment since 2004 therefore it looks as if the management have no plans to improve it in the near future. But overall this hotel has a sort of rough charm about it and I would go back if the price was good and around about the October time.

I read the reports before I went to Tunisia and went with an open mind. However the GOLDEN SOVIVA not a good choice.
The food is the worst thing always the same thing and always cold more like a hospatial than what you would expected from a all inclusive holiday.
The rooms wre ok but we had broken shower that never was fixed along with other problems like the patio door wouldnt lock.
The entertainment was poor, it was just the kids in the hotel doing shows each night.
The all inclusive is not very good you have to wait until all the paying guest have had there drinks before ypu get severed and then only 2 drinks at a time. There is only 1 resturant to eat in and 2 bars where you can get drinks if you are all inclusive.

We asked to change rooms and half an hour later, were escorted in the dark to our second room! This one didn't smell, but the toilet didn't work, the shower didn't work and wasnt attached to the wall, and our pool view that we had paid for was a brick wall with some lovely steel pipes!!! There was no TV, hairdryer, fridge, stool, glasses as had been advertised and only one plug in the room....not good for 3 girls!!
We complained again and got moved in the morning to another room (still in the clothes we travelled in!) the room was OK but we weren't told we had to pay for the TV, fridge, hairdryer etc.
You had to queue up twice for drinks which took around 20 Min's and could only get 2 drinks at a time...not great when there's three of you! Also the drinks came out of plastic bottles which had no lids so they were always flat!!
The food was horrendous and the entertainment was shocking!!!
It was by far the worst hotel I have ever been to, please do not go especially if you have kids!!
If you are in the resort though, check out a show called The Changing Ladies...its brilliant

| said: Hotel Soviva was dirty, the shower smelt like a drain
and the shower head was held on by a hair band, when you turned it on you had to get water pressure right to get wet. We complained and got some kid round to fix it and I ended up having to show him what to do, but that did not stop him standing there like a lemon waiting for a tip, he did not get one.
The sat TV which is promised on the internet page is only foreign, they did have sky news so I asked about this and they said if you pay 5 dinars a day you would receive Carlton and BBC 1 so I gave her ten for two days and got back to the room and it was not on I rang reception and another woman told me that they did not receive these stations and never have done which basically summed up most of the Tunisians I bumped in to, they lie to get money period.
The food was inedible so I ended up going into the port to the best restaurant in the area the Mediterranean for the whole family with drinks it was £60.00, but as I was AI that was a bit of a nightmare. The waiters tried there best to be fair, but they are not on the ball as a nation it makes you realise what you have back home.
I know this is a bit of a rant but I've only just got back and I thought i would write this while its fresh in my mind,I do look on the bright side of life but at this hotel as anyone who is going soon will find out it is very difficult to respect the hotel management or believe a word they say.

| said: Stayed at the Golden Soviva in Tunisia. The moment I walked into the reception with its grubby chairs and small reception area I had a feeling it wasnt quite what I wished it to be.
We were given a room which overlooked a dirty white roof and pipework and the bathroom was grubby and dirty. We asked to be moved and they did not agree at first but agreed later in the day to show us another room. The bathroom was much nicer and the view a little better. We decided from then on we would make the most of the holiday and not moan any further.
We had a wander around the hotel grounds and the pool area was extremely busy and you couldnt put a pin between the people in the pool area.
We decided to eat that evening but the staff serving the food were rude and ignorant and the food undesirable so we decided we would eat outside of the hotel from then onwards.
We did not spend anytime around the pool, as it was impossible to get a sunbed so we spent everyday at the beach which was pleasant enough with good watersports and a restaurant.
We also went on the Sahara trip which is highly recommended and was a great adventure. Although it is a very long coach trip and very tiring, its well worth it.
We did eat one more night at the restaurant after a tiring Sahara Trip, but they even reserve the tables as well as the sunbeds.
We had a great holiday, because we made the most of a bad situation and spent lovely evenings in the Port at Kantaoui which has some good restaurants and a nice harbour.
Would I return, absolutely not. Would I recommend this hotel, please dont go there. I am sure there are much better hotels in the area as I have been told by friends and colleagues who have visited Tunisia previously.
We booked the holiday through Med Hotels, although the rep was very friendly, he did not give us any information regarding airport procedures. Make sure you take a pen to complete the visitation cards. Med Hotels reps give you very little information so beware.
Bon Voyage

When we arrived, the staff was very friendly and made two of our friends who havent been before very welcome.
The hotel was very clean and our rooms where in excellent condition. The food was very good and the rest of my party enjoyed it.
The location of the hotel isnt very good because you had to either walk, get a taxi or get a tuk tuk which I think where excellent to get to any of shops or resorts. There were some shops across the road from the hotel which where good and they where very friendly.
The staff in the hotel were very friendly and welcoming to us and made us feel at home. We made some good friends with the staff and stay in touch with them.
The entertainment was rubbish this year it was very boring. We spent most of our nights sat in the bar or going to other hotels to watch their entertainment.

| said: On arrival we were allocated our room which was dirty the toilet smelled like a mans public toilet and the handles were hanging of the doors. The patio doors did not lock bearing in mind we were on the ground floor overlooking the pool so anyone could have jumped over the balcony. We were there half an hour before we were moved.
This was the worst all inclusive holiday we have been on the drinks were limited in choice they were flat and warm at the pool and they filled bottles from the machine which was then pored onto glasses for the guests. We were treated like second class because we were all inclusive the half board guests had better selection and their drinks came in bottles.
The dining room our first week was like a cattle market no clean tables couldn't find any cutlery food was repetitive and tasteless. The second week there had been so many complaints they moved all the English people into a separate dining room which was an improvement but the food was the same.
The hotel was five minutes from the beach but once we went as the beach was dirty. The pool area was clean and the children enjoyed the slides.
The staff were pleasant but I felt they couldn't manage the number of people staying it was just too much we had to form lines to get food and drinks around the pool.
The children enjoyed the entertainment but the adults were bored to death.

Staff were excellent, very helpful especially good in the restaurant.

Would stay here again without hesitation.
Food abit samey, but given amount catered for and the fact that it is a arab country, not to bad at all
Only gripe was our pick up with Med hotels went without us even though we were waiting outside reception for 45 mins before pick up time, they do not call your name or the company so take note if you us them for transfers.

Staff couldn't be more helpful and food was good, lots of theme nights in the restaurant with a good deal of effort put into dressing up the dining room.
On the day of your departure the waiters make your table look pretty special by using flower petals and add floral decorations to your table.
Pool area brilliant though the hotel charges for sunbeds even if you use the beds for only an hour(we are told this is the norm in hotels in tunisia!)
The entertainment is also a bit of a let down although the staff try very hard but it is mainly audience participation which isnt everyones cup of tea!
The only reason we would look for a different hotel is the location, we went into the port several times by taxi as this is a lovely area. you can walk but its by a busy road approx 40 mins.
All in all a good value for money hotel.

| said: We arrived at this very quiet hotel to a very friendly reception and were checked in very quickly and escorted to our roomby a smartly dressed bell boy. The room was very large with 3 single beds which were rather firm but comfortable all the same.
I said the hotel was quiet...this was due to the fact that there were only 30 of us in a capacity hotel of 1,400....vety spooky. Having said that the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We would say the bedroom and bathroom were in need of some TLC but were clean. In fact they were cleaned every day and "fresh" towels put out each day too! the towels were rather grey and "good for the skin". I said to my wife that they would be very exfoliating!
The pool area is massive with two flumes and a very large water slide for the kids and adventurous adults. Sadly the weather in the first week of February 2006 was very cool so we didn't venture in for a dip!
Entertainment was non existent..enough said!
So we discovered The Royal Kenz next door who didn't mind us joining the throngs of people in there as they had lots of entertainment.
Food looked a little supect but turned out to be quite tasty. You certainly wouldn't starve? Eating in the restuarant was something you did quickly and got out as there was little atmosphere.
Taxis were outside the hotel and cost 2 or 3 Dinar to the Marina (Approx 85p to £1) and 5 Dinar to Sousse (£2.80ish) which was very reasonable. the yellow taxis are everywhere.
The Golden Soviva is on the end of the resort and you could walk to the marina in approx 25 - 30 mins.
Shops across the road. But you'll have to smuggle in your water as they don't like you bringing food & drink in from outside?
A nice relaxing holiday but a little quiet for us! We're sure the place is jumping in the summer months and that pool would be fantastic for families!

| said: I arrived at 2am in the morning. The hotel is located in lovely grounds and is small and chic compared to the large Club Soviva next door.
I was shown to my room (5017) which was extremely nice, clean and spacious, overlooking the pool area. The room had a nice balcony area with chairs and table, telephone, bathroom had hairdryer, bath/shower, WC, bedroom had twin beds, Sat TV (with only 2 English channels), fridge and the biggest wardrobe/closet I have ever seen in my life (brilliantly spacious). The room was lovely, I couldn't ask for a nicer room. The only thing was that the toilet flush was dodgey and wouldn't flush for half the time I was there.
The breakfast was good, serving a range of foods from pancakes, omlettes, croissants, meats, salads, etc. I had no complaints there. The dinner however was in my opinion not very good. Luke warm, bland, not much choice. I chose to eat dinner elsewhere for 6 out of 7 nights. All meals were served in the Soviva restaurant (building next door) as the Golden Soviva was closed.
Evening entertainment consisted of kids disco, bingo and a few other things, can't remember. I never actually stayed at the hotel in the evenings to find out what is was all about. Entertainment was always at Club Soviva. There was always something arranged every night. There was also a bar in Soviva and pool tables and arcade games in the reception. Kids club was 10am - 12pm and 2pm - 4pm.
The wave machine and one of the pool slides at Soviva were closed during my stay. This was a bit of a disappointment as we were looking forward to this.
There is an indoor pool and excellent sauna, massage and beauty therapies available at reasonable prices.
You can book excursions in the Soviva recetion for quad biking, camel trips, day trips, etc.
The location of the hotel is not in the best location. It is too far to walk to PEK, especially with a young child or in the heat. Taxi drivers outside the hotel want to charge 3TND when it's actually 1TND and they will not put it on the meter.
The staff are all lovely and friendly. I would return to this hotel again, but not for longer than 3 days because of its location.

The hotel was lovely. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the food was fantastic all week. The hotel complex is situated near to a lovely beach (the walk takes about five minutes), and taxis are constantly on hand to take you further afield. The marina is beautiful,
and the sun shone all week.
The staff were all great - really friendly, helpful, chatty, and exceptionally nice to children. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the Tunisian night.
The excursions we went on were excellent - enjoyable, well organised, and very good value for money.
All in all, we would definitely return to this hotel, and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

The entertainment was fine, kids loved it! We have been to Tunisian hotels in the past and the entertainment has been terrible - this was by far the best.
The pool was brilliant and the beach was only a 5 minute walk away and was very clean. The watersports are very cheap and the chaps very friendly.
We will definately return to this hotel on our next visit to Tunisia.

The hotel is clean but is a little old and in need of some TLC. To be honest when asked other people about their hotels they all said the same.
Food is available from 6.00am till midnight. The breakfast was not to our taste so we had omlette and pancakes, bread and preserves most days. The lunchtime meal was really nice and the evening meal was always warm and well presented. Rice is always on the menu so are chips and salad. A couple of a party members are fussy eaters but always found something to their liking. The cakes are fantastic!
The hotel is in a good position near to the beach. The walk 5 minute walk to be beach is not the most scenic but acceptable. The beach itself has a good bar with plenty of seating and sunbeds. The water sports are also diverse and cheap.
The hotel staff we lovely. They could not do enough for us and loved the kids.
The entertainment is ok and if you get into the swing of things you will have a good time. The lads are all amateurs work really hard and do not take themselves to seriously. Having spoke to people staying at other hotels our entertainments was brilliant. Some had 2 people playing classical music for 3 hours, some had board game and cards to amuse themselves and some had nothing!
All in all we had a great holiday the hotel is clean but basic, we were well looked after, the pool is brilliant and we would go to the hotel again.

On arrival transfer to hotel was smooth, arrived early hours of morning so reception and allocation of room was very professional.
Room very clean, overlooking small pool, on 2nd floor, and was quiet in evening.
Food - due to circumstances of our own making ie excursions out, we attended 3 breakfasts and 2 evening meals. There was always plenty of choice both hot and cold, waiters eager to please, dining room well laid out and never too busy.
Hotel location was one of the last ones along the main road out of the marina although busy was quiet after approx 2330 hrs, beach was pleasant and only 5 min walk from rear entrance of hotel, the road to beach has a few shops, a fair bit of rubble and various different smells !!
We attended only one night of entertainment which we thought was great for families with children but not to our taste.

The food was rather bland but they did try to cater for us brits.
The staff were friendly, but the entertainment wasn't up to much especially of an evening.
The pool area and slides were fantastic the kid's loved it as well as the adults.
The only real complaint we had was the wrist bands we wore as all inclusive guests were useless you had to have them scanned every time you wanted a drink they never worked in the 2wk we were there we had at least 30 wrist bands between us,also you had to queue at the one beer pump in the main bar for the whole hotel for ages and then could only get flat beer 2 drinks at a time.
Port el Kantaoui harbour was lovely try the Med resteraunt, expensive but worth it.

Our room was very basic the mini bar in the room was a fridge. The food was disgusting it was cold and the same everyday near enough I can't look at rice anymore.
You are about 30min walk from the Marina which you get delightful smells of sewage. Most of the hotel staff are quite friendly.
The Entertainment was pathetic the sound system kept going off. I will definately not be going to this hotel again.
Both myself and my husband were ill with stomach upsets and the drinks from the bar are flat and warm and no ice cream for the kids.

Food bland and the same most days with flies all over it. Food poisoning for 5 days out of 7.
Incorrect brochure details.
Miserable and unhelpful staff.
Limited drinks for All inclusive guests. Very loud music till 1.30am from managers daughters wedding. That's just a few complaints about this hotel, would not be going anywhere near this hotel ever again.
The hotel should be rated low 2* NOT 4*

| said: Cleanliness of the hotel was horrific. There was a Tunisian wedding at the hotel which none of the residents knew about.
The entertainment was virtually non exsistant. Because we were english I found they did not want to know. We got to the hotel and they did not have a room ready for us. The lifts kept breaking down.
Also if there was ever a fire the fire equipment would never work as the fire equipment had no pressure in them. The hotel smelt of sewage. Items in the hotel room were hanging off the wall i.e: wardrobe doors not fitted on properly.
The food was horrific it was cold and we had been ill all week. We went all inclusive one night I was given tap water they were filling the bottled water with tap water saying that it was ok to drink. We had to pay out for drinks from the local supermarket as the all inclusive was so bad.

The 2nd room was a double and the 3rd room was a filthy pit. I asked for the sheets to be changed and fresh sheets put on which was never done. I even wiped make up all over the sheet so they could see the dirt but that made no difference.
In the end I threw all the bedding and the filthy disgusting mats out of the room. I was suffering severly from Aathma attacks as the room was so filthy.
Towel rails hanging off walls etc.
Complained to the manager and to the rep but no joy. The rep just apologised and said he knew what it was like.
I would never go back to this stinking hovel again.
Tunisia was fantastic I would return but to a clean hotel.
As for 4 star this hotel doesnt deserve any stars...its a disgrace.

| said: This hotel is by far one of the best hotels I have stayed in, in a long time. We have stayed at other Tunisian hotels before and the entertainment was rubbish but this beat them all.
The hotel was very clean and was always tidy, there was always a cleaner around and they were very friendly with you and stopped and had a talk with you, even though they didn't speak much english they did they best.
The cleaner we had for our rooms were pregnant she was so lovely!
The location of the hotel wasn't too bad the beach was only a 3 minute walk if you out of the back of the hotel, they was alway a taxi outside the hotel if you wanted to go anywhere and they were very cheap or cheap as chips there say it.
If you do visit this hotel becareful of the busues has if you travel on them in the mornig when it is market day you could end up sitting near a chicken like we did!
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and couldn't do enough for you they were brill, the food was ok but some nights i just had pancakes they were the best thing that they did.
The entetainment was brill every night, the kids loved it but the kids entertainment got abit boring because it was the same every night and the animation team (that is what the enterainment team where called) were brill their always talked to you and where always up for a laugh with you.
On our last day we got a bit tearful and exchaned address and e-mail address with some of the staff.
yes I would defo visit this hotel again, in fact we have just booked it for next july for 3 weeks!

| said: As for been in a four star hotel, I THINK NOT!!!!!!
We booked 2 seperate rooms and were given a family room.
All inclusive was rubbish, drinks were warm and flat and in plastic cups, you have to queue up for ages, were treat badly because we were all inclusive, as the waiters did not recieve any tips!!!! Had to go everyday to reception for water vouchers.
Talking about cleanliness it was disgusting. Room was not swept for 2 weeks, bed only changed once, after we had complained about this, you need a step-ladder to get into the bath, no toilet rolls, we had to go to reception for these or steal them off the trolleys which left lying around.
They only had 1 cloth which they used for benches, dressing table, toilet, sink, and bath, with no disinfectant. The maids took a liking to my husband's lynx deorodant, which I had to hide from them. The mini-bar was an empty fridge. TV did not work at all. Light in entrance to room, not working, we reported it and to my knowledge it is still not repaired. And don't even get me started on the stuff the call FOOD! Was cold, covered in flies, lost 2 days out of my holiday because I was so ill.
Saw a waiter handling food with his bare hands, but when it was the manager's daughters wedding they all had gloves on. DO NOT EAT THIS FOOD!!!!
Hotel location was rubbish had to get taxi anywhere you wanted to go. Hotel staff, some ok, some very arrogant.
Saw a waiter take plastic cup, have a drink out of it and then replace it back onto the pile UNWASHED!!!!!! Dirty horrible little man. Entertainment, ok if you have kids with you, not non-existent for adults.
I nor any of my friends or family would ever visit this hotel (Fawlty Towers) again !!!!! It should be renamed Golden Survivor.

The bar staff renewed the plastic drinking cups, I had a cooked beetle in my breakfast! The tv didn't work until 2 days before we came home. The mini bar was a fridge(empty),had to get up at 6.00am to get a sunbed.
The entertainment was the same night after night, had a Tunisian wedding(the managers daughter) that nobody was informed about.
If you want a nice holiday stay as far away from this hotel as possible, but if you like food poisoning, dirty hotel rooms, entertainment thats like having your teeth pulled and food you wouldn't feed a dog, then this is the place for you!

| said: In our opinion this hotel wrote the book on how to limit AI guests. You got very small cups and had to queue for ages in evening to get a drink, so after a while we would sooner go thirsty than to queue up, you got flat coke. On one occasion when staff thought I was paying they opened a brand new bottle of coca-cola in a big cup but when I informed them I was AI they took coke off me and replaced it with draught coke in a small cup.
We expected a lot more considering it was 4 star. Although towels were changed almost daily. On several occasions the bottom sheet was thrown on the tops of beds and the room was never swept.
The location was fairly good about five minutes from local port.
The staff were generally very nice.
The entertainment was by far the worst we have seen the kids entertainment was always the same, went on for about 1hr 30 and then the adult entertainment was a series of dance routines. After a couple of nights of this we went out most nights. They played bingo which cost 5 dinars (£2.50) bearing in mind quite a few played and you won a henna tattoo and a trip to have your hair platted.
Beware though you will have to get up very early to get a sun bed around the water slides, got up as early as 6.30 one morning to get one to no avail. It turns out that people were reserving the beds the night before, although this was addressed it took us 7 days to get round pool, the water slide was a lot of fun.
We would never return to this hotel again and would never recommend it, this is just a short list of complaints and we have sent the rest to our tour operator, in our opinion this should not be an AI option.

Clean hotel without cockroaches, but 3 star, not 4, good standard, old furniture. We were in room 3004.
Be aware that acclimatization is on only from approx. 20.6. To approx. 10.9.
Weather pretty good but I expected better for the start of the June, in the evening sometimes sweater was a must.
Food is probably the best thing in this hotel if you have AI; all is served in nearby Soviva Club. Continental good taste, no experiments, excellent cakes. Bad thing was the reservation system with card for tables and long queues due to huge crowds of people in hotel.
Pools clean and good, slide excellent, kid place perfect.
Sea approx. 10 min walk, beach untidy, at sea on the ground grasses, water sometimes dirty, enough warm for swimming. Beach bar sufficient, but confused when ordering more items at one time.
Be careful when entering restaurant for snacks aside pool, some rude waiter (name I remember) burn my wife hand with pizza.
Well overall it was good holiday, the cost for 4 adult approx. 2000 Euro including air ticket and AI, but next time we will sure travel to Tunis, but another hotel and place.

| said: All inclusive a bit disappointing due to the drinks situation. You could only get 2 drinks per visit to the bar at a time so if you are a family of four it was a bit inconvenient. A choice of 3 spirits only and 1 weak lager in very small glasses! Soft drinks for kids ok in plastic cups, coffee was good!
Bar staff very ignorant because we were all inclusive they knew they would get little or no tips which doesn't go down well. Busy times around the bar 1 staff serving very slow, not good! Felt a leper with an all inclusive wrist band, had to go for food and drink at specific bars, sit at specific tables for meals and got sick of being treated badly by staff because of the tips situation.
Golden Soviva better than the attached Soviva, spoke to Soviva holiday makers and they said their hotel rooms were dirty and shabby, supposed to be a 3 star but the said more 2 star. Our hotel the Golden was rated at 4 star but expect a 3 star. It was ok and clean enough but nothing special.
Food we thought was excellent could have been a little warmer but found plenty of things to eat for 2 weeks, We have stayed in lots of hotels 1 star to 5 star but we thought the food in the Soviva was one of the best we have ever had.
Location of the hotel was not too great the surrounding area was grotty and we didnt feel safe walking out at night so if we went anywhere it was a taxi ride which were plentiful and safe'ish and cheap. 5 mins walk to beach and 40 min pleasent stroll along beach to main resort marina.
Hotel staff we found not too good at the bars everywhere else around the hotel ok, restraunt staff good and quite friendly.
Entertainment was excellent the animation team were fantastic they worked so hard and the shows they put on most nights were top notch. Remember though this is mainly a family hotel and thus entertainment geared for them. We enjoyed the music around the pool all day which obviously wouldnt appeal to all.The pool area is nice and the water slides and pool itself were brilliant.
Would we go back again? We don't usually go back anywhere but maybe if this came up again as cheap as chips then who knows. We paid £1600 for 2 weeks all inclusive for 4 of us so for the money it was a good holiday overall, but not a patch on Egypt where we went last year and hopefully where we will be going next year!

The staff at the Golden Soviva were fantastic, although I believe they are ruled by a rod of iron (they were very friendly but soon returned to their stations when Mr. Manager appeared).
I found the room clean, and that was as much as I can say.
Although there looked to be a big choice of menu, I found the food repative and bland. I ate in the main port most of the time.
Although it was the beginning of the season, the entertainment was extremely poor. 1 'nightclub / bar' which had a maximum of 10 people in there at any one time! For families (especially those with young children), there was nothing to do during the day (bearing in mind we had poor weather) and possible even less on an evening.

| said: Having read some of the other reviews of this hotel I was quite anxious to be going there! Whilst we had a great time while we were there, mainly because our expectation was so low, but also helped by the fact that we were fortunate to meet likeminded individuals that made the best of the situation.
There were a number of items that didn't impress us, however...
1. All Inclusive Status - we were 'entitled' to use just 1 bar, with 1 waiter serving. You were only allowed 2 drinks per person to be ordered at a time and the only drinks available were local beer (2% Alc.) poured out of a bottle into a small glass. They wouldn't give you the full bottle which meant you spent most of your time queuing for drinks!
Red, White or Rose wine, A couintreau (SP?) type spirit, a Fig Brandy or a sherry type drink.
2. Cleanliness - Whilst the room didn't have any huge problems with it, it could have done with a thorough cleaning, very dusty, rubbish under the bed etc...
3. Food - Eggs seem to be the order of the day. They are everywhere! Omelettes, pancakes, fried, scrambled etc. That said we didn't have a problem once finding something that we wanted to eat.
4. Location - The hotel is situated approx 3km from PEK Harbour. Short taxi ride will cost approx 3 - 4 TD. It Cost approx 18 - 20 TD for the taxi each way from the Airport at Monastir.
5. Hotel staff - On the whole they were OK. The Bar staff looked like they didn't want to be there and begrudgingly gave you a drink (only to the rules though!)
6. Entertainment - The actual evening entertainment for adults was poor to say the least, Kids Disco was Ok but the same tunes in the same order every night!
The entertainment team were fantastic though and bent over backwards to try and organise things which involved as many people as possible.
7. Visit again? No - There were other hotels that were better located and better maintained that I may be tempted to try, but it would have to be a bargain to get me back to Tunisia.

Entertainment was minimal but as there were so few guests at this time of year it was to be expected.
The outdoor pool for the Golden Soviva was heated (steam visible in the mornings).
The hotel staff were very helpful. Due to a bout of bronchitis a doctor was required and they arranged the visit within the hour and the treatment received was first class.
The TV in the rooms only has BBC world news a film or video channel would have been appreciated. The rooms lacked tea or coffee making facilities although there was a refrigerator for keeping drinks cold.

I found that the hotel was very clean and towels were cahnged regulary. There where no problems with the room,we never used it as much as we went out a lot.
The food was lovely my children loved the chocolate pancakes and the yummy omelettes. We found our self going up and down for more as it was set as a buffet. There was a whole range of food.
The location was very good and the hotel had its own beach wich was very beautiful with nice water and lovley sand (the kids loved it)
The staff were very kind and went out of there way to make our holiday great they were very kind to the children and seem to have a smile on there face all the time.
The entertainment was good but the kiddys disco did get a bit annoying after a couple of days the songs were exactly the same everyday (but the kids loved it), but there were other thing on afterwards wich were sometime ranther funny.
The pool was great as it was very large, you share the pool with the hotel Soviva next door but this dosent mater because its so big. The slides were great it took the kids a while to get me down them but they were good fun.
The only problem was you werent allowed to take food and drink from the shops outside the hotel so we found ourselfs smuggling them in under our towels or bags.
I enjoyed this holiday very much an would go there again.beforew we went we were very worried about what it would be like because of all the negative comments but me and my family loved it and will be going back for longer in the very near future.

| said: Just got back from this hotel. Although we enjoyed the holiday we would not return to this hotel due to the location and lack of entertainment.
Staff were very friendly and helpful and rooms were kept clean. We were over looking the pool but the pool didn't get any sun on it all day so was a bit dismal and we were unable to sit and enjoy the balcony as we were overlooked too much.
Spent 2 days in bed with what I believe was food poisoning which cost me 105 Tunisian dinars (about £50) for three injections in the rear end and tablets. The nurse said it was the change of food but I spoke to about 30 people alone that had had the same symptoms.
Luckily we went on the camel caravan before hand which is a must, we had such a laugh. Well worth the money approx £13 and also the cabaret night with the reps was great. Real good evening, the best entertainment of the holiday.
The marina area is a must it's lovely.
Going to stick to Tenerife in the future.
PS Don't forget your fly spray, never seen so many, they get on your nerves after a while.

| said: The worst holiday I have ever had.
We stayed at the Golden Soviva, room 1048. This room was filthy - cobwebs around the room, underneath the bed looked as though it hadn't been cleaned for about 2 months. There was a fridge and telly in the room, but only one plug socket. The fridge was full of water and the door shut - subsequently it smelt mouldy. The bedside tables had a glass covering, one had a corner missing and sharp glass was sticking out. The airconditioning dials had been snapped off so we were unable to change settings.
Now the bathroom - black mould all around the bath edges and the tiles. The shower dials were missing, so you had to guess hot/cold. One light never worked as there was evidence of a leak up above, although we did try to get it fixed. All wall fittings hung off the walls. The surface around the sink was cracked and broken and the tap dripped constantly. There was also cobwebs around the bathroom. The toilet was constantly blocked.
Apparently the sheets should have been changed twice a week and the towels daily. Our sheets were changed once in the 14 days we were there and that was 3 days before we came home. If we hung the towels up after use, they never got changed.
The food was absolutely awful - we lived on soup, chips and melon for 2 weeks. The restaurant wasn't very clean at all. About 2/3 of the holidaymakers went down with food poisoning.
Entertainment - nil. If you had kids then I guess it was acceptable. The Animation Team were good with the kids, but nothing for adults. Nothing to do at all in the evenings.
It was like a Hi-de-Hi holiday camp in the sun.

| said: Having researched a little about the Golden Soviva hotel we were in two minds as to whether we had made the right decision. However on reaching the hotel we were pleasantly surprised by the initial look of the hotel, maybe not the grandest in the area but certainly very pleasant.
The room was very spacious and very clean. All the furniture was in excellent condition although not the softest of beds. Quite often I find the cleanliness of the bathroom to be the best overall indicator and on this score the Golden Soviva passed with flying colours.
The food, although plentiful and with plenty of variety did sometimes get a bit boring and was quite often a little bland. However if your an egg lover, you're in for a treat. Everything was obviously made from scratch with very little use of packet or pre-prepaired ingredients. Even the baked beans were homemade (although not necessarily recommended.
The Hotel is situated at the far end of the resort about 40 minutes walk to the marina. This is not a problem as taxis are very cheap.
The Beach is also only a few minutes away and makes for a lovely walk to the marina.
The Staff at the Soviva complex were without exception very friendly and eager to please. It was nice to see so many staff with permanent smiles.
The down side for me was the entertainment put on by the animation team, basically I thought it was awful but maybe I was missing something because many seemed to enjoy it. It seemed to consist of the most dreadful slapstick sketches and singing stupid songs.
I must say one of the highlights of this hotel was the pool which was much larger than your average hotel pool and perfectly clean. The water slide was also a lot of fun.
Overall The Golden Soviva surpassed my expectations and I would certainly visit again at some point.

| said: I went with my family to hotel Soviva in August 2004 and I really cannot understand why people say this hotel is awful.
Cleanliness - the rooms are cleaned every day and yes a couple of times I was in the room for some reason or another and the maids would come back once I had left (and I know they were cleaned because I am a very messy person.) They even folded my brothers night clothes in an incredible way he was very pleased and felt very special.
The cleaners would also not enter the room if you asked them and were always polite asking me how my holiday was going even though it was obvious they did not speak English well. I found this very comforting.
Food - okay yes, I'm a fussy eater so there was not much I would eat and sometimes the food would taste a bit funny (cold etc) but my family are ones to try new things and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the different things available. Although for me and my brother there was also the ever so under rated chips, spaghetti and rice etc.
Location - I didn’t really leave the hotel except to go on the camel caravan trip (which I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend) but the hotel was not in a rough area or anything so I have nothing to complain about the location.
Staff - the waiters are very friendly (yes ok that may have been because I was a young girl) but they were always polite to my father and brother and we felt like royalty having them come over to us to ask us if we wanted a drink instead of us going to the bar.
The animation team are amazing although I did notice that the males are much more into talking to guests and their work than the females. Amine, Ahmed and Henri have special thanks for making our holiday a magnificent one.
We are returning next year because we have made such strong bonds with these workers and exchange letters and phone calls regularly. We miss them all.
The restaurant waiters are amazing giving you one table for the week and keeping that for you (ours even offered my dad 2000 camels for me! bless but that is going off the subject) Andy from First Choice was amazing too. He deserves a medal in hyparactivness.....he was such a laugh and was never lacking energy. I cannot believe he will not be there next year because First Choice are dropping the hotel!!!!
As I said before the cleaners were very friendly and the lifeguards are friendly too.
Entertainment - the mini disco songs did get tiresome after a few days but the children are happy and we have to remember that they are on holiday as well as us older people. The comedy show was very funny but that may have just been that night because it was our first night and I told them we were from near Birmingham and they put that into the show.
We are looking at holiday brochures already and it is only September 2004! I can’t wait to go back and see our friends there and make new ones.

| said: After reading most of the stories on this website i was dreading going to this hotel,(being 18, i am very fussy!!) We even tried changing the resort as we were so worried!
We arrived at the hotel, we were staying in the golden soviva side (there are 2 sides to the hotel) and we thought it was very small.
We were shown to our rooms and they were lovely and spacious we had three beds and we only asked for 2!!we had a lovely pool view! The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the cleaner had come and gone each morning by 11am, always leaving new towels etc!
The main pool was very nice, and very clean, with really good entertainment for children i.e slides and tidal waves! But if you want sun loungers you have to get there very early to grab them, best time around 6.00am! and if you are half board you have to pay for them. The beach was a short walk away but we didnt think it was too clean so we preferred to stay by the pool!
The hotel had excellent facilities e.g gym, massage parlours tennis courts!
The staff were very friendly and always recognised new faces! They welcomed us and made our time in the hotel very fun!
The food was ok, they had a lot of variety but can be quite repetative sometimes, we were half board and we found we got treated better then full board mainly because waiters rely on us for the tips. However the waiters were very friendly and would always get our table ready for us when they saw us walking towards the food hall.
Entertainment is excellent for children, they sing and dance to childrens songs, can get very boring and repetative for adults. However you can visit the neighbour hotels for entertainment, the one next door had events such as belly dancing, and plate smashing, excellent to watch!
Overall the Hotel was excellent, very big and clean!Would definatley return there, hoping to in the next 2 years!
We also went on a 2 day excusrion with airtours when we were there to the sahara desert!! All i can say is do it!! i didnt want to go, but when i experienced it i was very happy it was beautiful and well worth the price. Not only do you see the sahara but you stop on the way and visit alot of other places, and stay in a very nice hotel over night!! Its a once in a lifetime oppotunity so pls dnt miss it!!
Please dont beleive any of the nasty stories they arent true, and i can guarentee yoou, you will have a wonderful time!!

| said: Having just got over the trauma of the golden survivor I thought I should make people aware of the hell they will encounter if they are going there on holiday !.
The rooms are livable just. We had 2 adults and 2 kids in ours and we had enough room but you will be overlooked by around 50 balconys so keep the curtains shut. The cleanliness is the wrong way to score this hotel it should be dirtyness.
No poolside showers for the sweat ! Poolside toilets overflowing for several days right opposite the kids club. Brown gunk bubbling from the sink waste in the room, if you ran the tap to fast (very smelly) probably due to the maid emptying the floor mop bucket down it and leaving the residue all over the sink. Room toilet did'nt flush very often (keep an empty water bottle to hand to fill the cistern.
The location is the worst in port el kantaoui. The staff are freindly but there not enough of them to keep up. On more than one occasion the maid got around to our room after 6 p.m. .
We did not sample the entertainment apart from the first two days which we foolishly spent by the soviva pool my opinion was a bit like hi-di-hi.
THE FOOD the first morning we had to sit outside due to lack of room did'nt eat much because it was luke warm. There were 8 in our party and on arriving for evening meal we had still not been allocated a table and had to wait at the entrance for over 15 mins for a table to be made up for us. We finally got one and after batteling through the scrum for food it was worst I have experienced ever on my travels to over 20 contries.
We tryed again on the second evening and did not eat there again (very costly to the budget). I went alone to breakfast for a coffee in the second week to find our table had been re-allocated and was asked to leave the room and sit outside I won't say what i told the table cleaner to do.
As for visiting this hotel ! again NO I would rather stay at the kennels i sent our dog to. For the record the hotel was booked by the other family in our party who had been to the survivor 2 years ago and they are shocked by its demize and I think they are also very embarased to have recommended it to us.

| said: Having read previous reports about the Golden Soviva Hotel prior to my trip, i was a little reluctant and anxious about spending my two week holiday there.
I've just recently returned, after having experienced a wonderful holiday, and fail understand these people who have completely "downed" this hotel.
I feel its grossly unfair the criticism which was directed at this hotel in particular. I agree that the food could have been a lot better,, but, one must remember that we are holidaying in a different country and culture, and if your looking for "fish and chips" on the menu, then i guess your better sticking to Benidorm :-)People with this kinda mentality are often more suited to resorts like that.
The entertainment value of the evening's performances were very poor, although i choose to go elsewhere rather than join the army of "all inclusives" who manned the chairs every night, but moaned constantly. The lengths people will go for a "plastic band" on their wrists:-)
I've travelled the world, and well accustomed to a high standard, but, by no means, was the Golden Soviva poor in standards. The hotel was spotless, and the staff couldn't have done enough for me.
I feel a bit angry at these coments, and find them very misleading, particulary when there completely unjustified.
Some people will never be happy regardless of where they go. That says more about the people than the place itself.
I'll certainly be returning next year :-)

| said: Went to Tunisia and stayed in the Golden Soviva for 2 weeks on honeymoon !!!! not a honeymoon destination. The hotel was ok, but expected a lot more as people had said there hotels were fantastic.
Marhaba behind the Soviva and the Hannibal Palace looked stunning !!! and many people said they were 1st class.
The food was ok, but after the first week we decided to eat out even though we had went half board as we could not look at the same breakfast and dinner again. I would not recommend this hotel to english and especially Irish people as it is full of Germans, Russians, Tunisans and so many other nationalies. No chance in getting a sunbed, (7oclock rule) and when you went down at 7.00am there was none left. Watch out ! lifeguards will keep sunbeds and try and charge you for them.
Entertainment was diabolical !! every night !!.
To eat out is reasonable - best restaurant is the La Mediterian in the Marina, although all the restaurants serve small portions, and dont have a big variety of food if you dont like fish or steak.
Alcohol is expensive £ 2.75 for their beer! and £3.50 for a vodva.
Beach is quite nice, watersports not bad but you could spend a lot if you go the beach for 2 weeks. Quad biking was ok, and worth the money for 2 hours.
Would be quite economical if you go half board with a family, Golden Soviva would cater more for families.
Unfortunately Tunisia I think is a place that you many like or not !!! We were gald to get home, but I really believe that this was down to the hotel and not being able to speak to anybody in the same language.

| said: All inclusive guests are definitely treated as 2nd class compared to half board.Although we stayed at the Golden Soviva we had to use the restaurant at the Soviva, which was nowhere near as nice.
The Golden Soviva had its own private pool but you could only get waiter service if you were half board.Unless you go down to put your towels on the sunbeds very early, you will find it hard to get one, especially if you want an umbrella for shade aswell.
Although we were booked in at the Golden. the only thing we used there was our room. All facilities, entertainment etc.were over at the Soviva. On a plus point, the rooms were lovely, very clean and spacious. The fridge however, was locked and it cost 5 dinars a day if you wanted to use it.
The entertainment was very poor, apart from 2 nights, when it was provided by outside dancers. The entertainment provided by the reps varied between monotonous to downright painful especially the'comedy'night.
The restaurant staff were very good.always smiling and helpful. The food was hot, tasty but a little repetative.Beware of Sarah, the girl from the massage centre. She will try to get you to leave everything from leftover shampoo etc.to the shoes off your feet!!!Dont be fooled by her sob story, she even followed us about on our last day to ask again.Whilst we would return to Tunisia in the future,we would not go back to this hotel. To sum it up-Butlins with sunshine.

| said: I have read most of the reports on this site and wonder if these people are actually talking about the same hotel.yes I agree the entertainment was poor but you can always make your own which we did. The staff are absolutely fantastic and not just because they expected a tip, the food agin was great, a huge variety which to my knowledge pleased all, the staff were very friendly, however as another holiday reviewer said "A little to friendly" especially to the females but you had to take it as it came and realise they were like it to all the ladies not just you. My children one 10 and one 2 had a wonderful time just as my husband and I did. if you like the idea of a relaxing holiday this is it, Yes you did have to travel out a little but then again you would do that anywhere you go, and being so cheap to di so didn't really add a dapner on the holiday. We as a family cannot fault it so much so that we are travelling back next year.

| said: Had a really nice time in the Golden Soviva, it's a little strange as all the action (food, events, entertainment) happens at the sister hotel, the Soviva right next door. It's strange until you get used to it. The trips out are well organised (just be sure you haggle on the price, nothing should be more than 20/25 Dinars per trip). 2 outdoor pools, one in the Golden Soviva (heated) a larger pool with slides and spa is quite cold in the mornings. Half Boarders get better treatment than AI, purely on tips. Be careful if straying outside of the hotel, the shops over the road have varied and clever means of unloading you of your money...:)

| said: If you like to eat edible food do not go to this Hotel. I went with my Mum, having not been on Holiday for 4 years,to the Golden Soviva, 4 Star my big Scottish Backside, for 7 days. By the End I dreaded going for my evening meal. I have not spat out food since I was a Child and the "Golden"Food I Spat out was Salad. However the wine Waitress was lovely,as were most of the Staff,so |
