The hotel is a short drive from the airport approx 15 mins.

On entering the hotel my first impression was a little disappointing as the reception area I found to be bland and a little dark. However, I was more than pleased with the location of our room.

Room:-

We were given a sea-view room on the top (3rd floor) of the main hotel. A lift was available to the 2nd floor but then we had 2 flights of stairs up to our floor. No assistance is given with the transport of our luggage which was a little disappointing after we had dropped off at their sister hotel the 4 star Albatross 2 minutes previously where porters met the guests from the coach for their luggage.

The room consisted of 2 twin beds, 2 small bedside cabinets, wardrobe (with adequate space) a mirrored dressing table, TV (English channels CNN and BBC World News, although the first 3 channels which are Croatian showed English films/Simpsons/Mr Bean etc in English). The bathroom consisted of a toilet, sink and small shower. The shower is half circular and squeezed into a corner with only a shower curtain to stop the water flooding out. We learnt to ensure the curtain was fully closed and we kept the shower head low and pointing downwards most of the time.

The view from our balcony was spectacular. We had a view over the whole of the bay where you could watch the boats coming and going to Dubrovnik and of an evening the sunsets were truly beautiful.

Please be careful when booking your room. The majority of First Choice rooms were at the back (which is the entrance) of the hotel and over look the entrance road and a blank stone retaining wall. Also, I would book a balcony, or you may end up with a room without a balcony. So in effect you could end up with a room facing a stone wall without a balcony.

The maid came in everyday and towels/sheets were changed regularly.

Food:-

The restaurant is large and airy with an abundance of staff who are continually removing your used plates etc so is therefore very clean and tidy. There is also an outside terrace that you may use to dine.

Breakfast was the usual bacon, spiced sausage, boiled/scrambled or fried eggs (which are available freshly fried from the grill counter to your liking which was a bonus) and the continental style of cheeses/hams etc. Different types of breads are available and a toaster is provided. You help yourself to juices (squash types non fresh) and various choices of coffee/teas (including herbal) cocoa and chocolate.

Lunch/Dinner:-

I have grouped these two together as they are basically very similar in what is on offer. Lunch is 12 till 2 or you may get a snack type lunch from the next door Obod bar until 3pm. Dinner is from 6.30 to 9pm. At this point the food stops so if you are an early dinner person you may need to pop back into the restaurant if you require anything before your next meal which would be breakfast.

The food was well presented and there was a good choice of pork, veal, beef (bit tough) lots of fish, pasta, rice, veg is usually mixed veg type i.e. green beans with carrots, broccoli, cauliflower. There's a salad bar and cold meats. Cake stall, fresh fruit basket, and 2 ice cream boxes usually with a choice of 2/3 various flavours.

At both lunch and dinner drinks are available from the bar which includes red/white wine, lager, juices or water. (No short drinks).

Location:-

The location of the hotel is stunning. It is set in a bay with its own private pebble beach. Take beach shoes as getting into the sea is very hard on your feet!!! Outside the hotel are 3 bars all of which have seating on the waters edge and have beautiful views. After the bars is the hotel Albatross then you must walk towards Cavtat centre for any more outside bars etc.

The walk to Cavtat village takes about 10/15 minutes and is along a coast road which does not have a pavement. There is a white line along the road for pedestrians. Families with children would need to keep a firm hold of their children as the road has blind bends. It's a pleasant walk and is in the shade of trees.

Pool and Sunbeds:-

The pool is fairly small with a separate pool for the children. Sunbeds are provided along with parasols - please note that sunbed mattresses are not provided - we bought a sunbed fold up mattress from Cavtat village for £6.50 each - worth it.

Staff:-

Staff were very pleasant and friendly. No problems.

Entertainment:-

Was provided by young students from various Balkan states. They worked extremely hard and were very friendly. Always smiling and saying hello. They are instructed to sit with the guests during meal times so you will probably, at some point, have a team member approaching you requesting that they share your dinner table. We found this strange at first until we realised that they are instructed to do this.

They provided various entertainment during the day water aerobics, volley ball, darts etc and of an evening they may either put on a show or have a quiz etc. There is an outdoor show area which we didn't attend as the seats are in rows (like in the cinema) without tables so you cannot sit and have a drink etc. This we found a little strange and not to our liking as we didn't fancy sitting squashed into rows of seats.

It has been mentioned in earlier reports that the hotel was mainly German guests. This has now changed and the main guests are French. When we were there they were elderly French - in large groups. We ate our evening meal early at 6.30 to avoid the continual loud babble as the French congregated around various tables chatting. They would stop anywhere for a good chat - doorways, stairs - regardless of the fact they might be blocking other peoples walkway. Also they seem to have lost the knack of saying Merci, or S'il vous plaît when ordering drinks at the bar.

Bars:-

There is a large indoor bar with lots of seating within the main hotel - this however seems not to be used unless the weather is poor. The only bars available for use in the good weather is the pokey pool bar (plastic cups only)but you can sit by the sea, or the Obod bar where you can have a glass and sit on the outside terrace...limited tables though.

The short drinks i.e. vodka, gin, rum etc are local produced and not very good. The Brandy tasted thick and syrupy and others said that their chosen tipple wasn't up to much either. The lager isn't too bad but served in small plastic cups (pool bar) and only half full due to the froth. However you aren't limited to how many drinks you get per visit.

Overview is that the hotel has an excellent location scenically. A little too isolated for us as we, and others, found that we were getting a little 'hemmed in' by the start of the 2nd week as, apart from the walk into Cavtat, there wasn't anywhere else to go for a walk.

I thought that children might be bored here as there isn't enough to keep them occupied.

A nice hotel, in a lovely setting suitable for a relaxing, laid back, chill in the sun and read your book type holiday. Also I felt that the hotel was more of a Full Board with free drinks as opposed to AI due to the lack of small snacks not being available at anytime.

Travelled in June with Archers Direct which turned out to be the cheapest deal. Once there received the services of the Cosmo reps.

June was a good time to go as it was not too busy, weather was quite hot.

The hotel is in its own grounds and is ideal for children as no cars are allowed in the grounds. It has a childrens pool and play area.

The animation team are very good and our daughter loved the mini disco at night.

The beach is pebbly and next to hotel.

Hotel rooms a bit small but nicely furnished. Only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work very well and it was hot at night.

Food for every taste and plenty of it.

The walk into Cavtat is on the flat and there is a lovely harbour with plenty of cafes. Tourist bus to Debrovnik leaves from the Albatross Hotel every day and well worth the visit. Also try the boats that sail to Dubrovnik. Very reasonable prices. You must go to Lokrum the nature reserve and swim in the lakes, it is a beautiful place.

Older children or singles looking to go clubbing may find Cavtat a bit quiet.

On site diving club very good.

This was our first time in Croatia and it was a great holiday. The hotel is in a nice quiet spot but a nice stroll around the bay will take you to Cavtat.

The staff at the hotel and the locals around town are really friendly and seem genuinely happy to meet and help you.

The food at the hotel was your garden variety large hotel buffet but there was a good choice and plenty of it! Lovely views from the restaurant windows - especially in the morning - right over the sea.

The rooms were plain but clean. The entertainment was mainly centred around German guests but about 90% of the guests staying were German so I suppose that's why.

This hotel is a terrific bargain for an all-inclusive holiday. We don't have any kids so I didn't really pay attention to facilities for them but for couples it was ideal. Highly recommended!

Very nice, very clean, except dining room at dinner time.....: too many people take too much food from the buffets and leave it on tables, floors, seats.... staff try to but cant get everything clean enough in a short time....
sweet water swimming pool seems also too small for too many children - we preferred the sea! Wonderful, with a view to many interesting shells - the ones that look like little white or green balls with two holes on opposite sides...... be sure to bring swimming shoes, stones can be hard to walk on in the sea....
To get umbrellas or beds you must be on your feet very early in the morning, put your towel on them and go back to bed..... theres too few beds for too many people!
