Although We had seen the "Coastline" on various other visits, and new it's location We had never stayed at this Hotel. However this proved a revelation. As I stated We have stayed various Hotels in Malta, but Pound for pound, this must be one of the best on offer. It is truly
a four star Hotel, served by the most obliging Staff.who also keep the Hotel spotlessly clean. Food is of the highest order, and something to suit everybody is on offer. As You may judge this Hotel is hard fault, however if I must.....It would add to the Hotels esteem if a jug or plain drinking water was available on the table at Dinner (without Charge ).Surprisingly there is no dedicated T.V. room, this is often used for other purposes. The Room T.V. Handset. A deposit Maybe but a charge to use it ?... No
We would return to This Hotel tomorrow.

This is the third time we have visited the Coastline although not for 6 years.

It is still a fabulous hotel - great food, rooms, entertainment and everything else!!

We opted for a high floor country/inland view room as these get virtually all day sun. They are so quiet and are not overlooked. In the height of summer a sea view might be preferential as the inland view rooms would be very hot!!

We were so pleased to see that the colony of cats that live at the back of the hotel were in beautiful condition - probably due to the fact that each day there were piles of meat from the previous days dinner put out by the hotel staff. Even steak one day!! The cats are very friendly and are a delight to watch.

We would certainly return to this hotel again.

The Coastline sits back from the coast road, just short of Qawra, overlooking Salina Bay, with views across the bay to Qawra (if you can, get a sea view room, it’s well worth it). Initial impressions of the hotel are very favourable, with an imposing frontage, and a double height atrium in the reception/lounge area. Check in was quick & efficient, as was renting a safe deposit box (in a separate room, behind reception) and the TV remote (standard practice in Malta, don’t ask me why).
The main dining room, and the main bar, are on the first floor, with views across the bay. Very nice. The a la carte restaurant (La Costa) is downstairs towards the pool access, and the pool bar.
The room was quite large, with plenty of room for 2 adults and a teenager, and lots of storage space, and the third bed was a “proper” bed, not the camp bed type you usually get in most hotels. Air conditioning is controlled from the room, and is available 24/7, or as long as your keycard is in the slot.

Meals: Breakfast is the usual mix of bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, etc., cold meat & cheese, fruit, cereals, bread & rolls, tea, coffee, & fruit juices. There is a chef on duty who will cook omelettes to order, and very nice they are too.
Lunch can be taken either in La Costa restaurant or the pool/snack bar (they share a daytime menu) and consists of chips, burgers, pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and sandwiches/toasties. Lunch can also be taken in the main (Masterdeck) restaurant, which offers soup, salads, pasta, fish, 2 meat dishes, and vegetables, as well as ice cream and a choice of gateaux. Order your drinks from the waiter.
Dinner is taken in the Masterdeck restaurant, and is an expanded version of lunch. The menu is posted outside the restaurant from breakfast time, so you can see what’s on offer before you go in. The food quality generally is excellent, although we did find some of the sauces to be not quite to our taste – a lot of people seemed to like them though.
My wife is diabetic, and having been advised by reception to speak to the head waiter, we did so; he could not have been more helpful. Every night he (or his replacement) would seek us out and make sure my wife had all she needed, including getting the chef to prepare fresh fruit desserts for her, explaining the ingredients if the dishes to her, and so on.

The pool is a good size, and the sun bed area is adequate; we are not part of the “get down early” brigade, but we never had much of a problem getting sun beds when we wanted them (usually after 10). The pool deck doubles as the entertainment area, with waiter service from the pool bar. We watched a few of the shows, and passed on others; personally, we found it a bit “samey”, but most people were there every night, and patently enjoying themselves.

In common with most all-inclusives, certain items, like branded drinks, & the a la carte restaurant were not included in the AI package. However, AI guests paid just 50% of the menu price for any food or drink not included in the package, which we felt was very fair.

The staff were, without exception, the friendliest, most helpful staff I have ever encountered, and they are a credit to the hotel, and helped make our holiday an excellent one.

A Beautiful hotel spotless clean marble mirrors glass every where. It is a four star hotel without a doubt. The food is top quality and variety is fantastic. If you find you dont like any of the 10 different meals on offer each night then all you have to do is ask a waiter foe a steak or chicken and they will get the chef to do it for you. Nothing is to much for these chefs. Outstanding staff are conrad the wairer, karen the evening receptionist, if you want anything go to see her, shes lovely. Head waitress correen shes always smiling and very helpful. The only down side of this hotel is the problem they have with students, the second you have a problem with them report it to reception, dont put up with it' ask to be moved to a different floor' these students are there for 6 weeks so it wont get better. Phone before you go and ask what floor they are on and ask for a different floor. I would go again but i would certainly find out about the students first. I have left a letter of complaint with the hotel general manager, lets see if he replies.

HB as stay only one week and hired car to travel around a lot,(Car hire cheap, driving on the left, roads poor in places, driving standards ditto but a car really makes the holiday as you can look out the highlights at will. Discover the 'real' Malta and all at your own leasurely pace(A/C essential!).

Would reccomend A/Inc for two week stay or if you are a "arrive, sit by the pool, go home' person.

Hotel very clean in all areas. Bedrooms/lifts slightly worn but absolutely nothing to write home about.

Food good + with fine choice at breakfasts but slightly bland dinners which if staying for more than a week would become a little boring. Well cooked and presented, excellent starters and sweets, good main course selection (no chips = bliss!)rising to v good on occasions. Super dining room with great view. Ditto large bar and most imposing marble reception/lounge.

Location 'out on a limb' but thats why we like it and have given it 4*. (not 5* as road outside can be noisy at rush hours but hotel is set back and upwards so it is not a problem most of the time. Fine at night with doors closed, we are v light sleepers and slept fine after first night) Great views from seaview rooms (reccomended) across bay.

Regular free hotel mini bus to centre of Qwara/Bugibba area. Nowhere really for a long stroll outside hotel in evenings.

Staff very friendly indeed. The odd surely waiter/barman but as a whole they really make you welcome.

We are not entertainment types and what we did see, apart from the v hard working likeable Johnny Gee, was pretty bland, boring stuff.

Would visit again (avoiding school hols) as its 40+ age range is ideal, (used to be a Thomson Gold) very laid back, few if any screaming kids (done all that), lovely pool area , never crowded and as far as we have seen/heard one of only a few hotels in Malta that is anywhere near its star rating. Most 4* to UK eyes are 3*, most 3* are nearer to 2* etc. As they say Malta has a unique character many love it many don't. Definately no grey areas. Its ramshackle in a lot of places but its highlights are very good indeed. As one guest said, 'it needs a good wash and brush-up' in places but you would equally apply that to much of blighty too! Personally we have become endeared to Malta and its lovely people.

We have been to Malta many times. The Coastline Hotel is close to a busy road, but does not suffer from too much traffic noise. As others have said it is also located between a landfill site and salt pans. In the height of summer you can get smells in this area!

There are flys and wasps all over Malta, not just at this hotel.

The food in the Hotel is good, however we find hotel food gets boring so we eat out (the standard of food in Malta is high) and only ever do B&B at the hotel. Breakfast is very good in my oppinion. Local wine and beer is excellent, try Marsovin Special Reserve red wine and Cisk lager, both are cheap and great

The location of the hotel means using buses or car hire, we always hire because its cheap and they drive on the same side like us

The hotel is clean, staff friendly. I would say it represents good value for money. We book through the internet and sort our own flights. Last year we paid £250 for the room and breakfast for two people for one week and £200 (total) for the flights (October) I think its great value.

We have stayed in the hotel three times and have booked to go there this October 07. My wife and children will also be visting in the summer, but stay in apartments during the school holidays!

We have just had the most wonderful holiday in Malta, staying at the Coastline Hotel, Salina Bay. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. All the staff made us feel so welcome, we really felt that we were at home.

The views across the bay to Qawra are so peaceful and many boats and yachts can be seen everyday.

The hotel runs a courtesy bus daily to Bugibba, there you can locate any route bus.Going to most places on the island including Mosta, Mdina, Ta'Qali and Valletta to name a few. Outside the hotel you can catch a local bus to Sliema, St. Julians and many more places.

There is so much to do and lots of places of interest, but our favourite place has to be the Dingli cliffs. You feel as though you are on top of the world. (It's the highest point in Malta!). The views are breathtaking, we walked for hours. It was so quiet.

The hotel is always so clean and if you need anything, the staff are only too willing to help., our
There is always plenty of delicious food, and lots of different choices. We really enjoy the Maltese cuisine, our favourites are rabbit, fish and Maltese trifle.A must have drink, Kinnie! Its so refreshing.

We explored Malta at night, but not just to see the pretty lights on the churches for the festas and to see the fireworks. Mdina lit at night is awesome. We even saw the lights at Mdina as we returned home on the plane!

The entertainment in the hotel at night was enjoyed by everyone and the local bands were very good, you just had to dance and sing along.

We have been to Malta three times this year, and each time we go, we find something we didn't see before. So everytime is a new experience.

All the staff at the Coastline Hotel, are always so happy and welcoming. We have made so many friends.

We have already booked to return in December and are looking forward to meeting some more Maltese friends.

Our Best Wishes and Thanks to them all.

Booked direct on internet with Thomson's holidays about 2 weeks before travel for 2 of us, got it at £349 per person all inclusive so was worth waiting till the last minute.

Good Hotel with excellent staff always smiling and giving very good service.

This hotel's location is not very good and you can't really go far for a walk, they run a shuttle bus to the near resort of Buggiba every 20 minutes and there is also a daily shuttle bus to Siliema and Valleta at a cost of 2 lira per person and well worth it, goes at 9.00 am and comes back at 2.00pm. Valleta is a beautiful place with loads to see.

The Captain Morgan boat trips are very good, we went on the Fendezies and it was spot on, the down side was the captain or Jimmy as he likes to be called, he gives you a sermon on his ideas of how to the world is been ruined by us, a lot of what he says is true but you don't really want to hear it on your holiday but he and his crew are a very friendly butch and he looks like the a captain off a pirates ship.

Back to the hotel the food is excellent and very well presented, the rooms are of a high standard with daily maid service.

The swimming pools both outside and inside and very good and the sunbeds very comfortable and no fighting for sunbeds, probably because there are not a lot of Germans visiting Malta!!!

The entertainment was very good apart from one night ( it was the hotel entertainment rep who was an Italian with his friends )which was rubbish so I suppose 6 out of 7 is not to bad these days

The only downfall is you can see the landfill site or rubbish tip as we call it over here from the pool area and is not really what you would expect to see from a 4* hotel pool, never got any bad smells but there was a lot of flies on odd days.

Our air conditioning unit was not working properly and after numerous complaints to staff and one to the rep nothing was done, in the end I asked for a fan for the room which was delivered straight away and it gave us some relief from the 90 plus heat.

But all in all a very good holiday but would say not for families with young children as there is not enough to do

Nice enough hotel, was badly overbooked on our second week, which really spoilt it for us. There was a country and western group in our hotel, there is only so much achy breaky heart I can listen to!!!

As with most holidays the second week seems to let the first week down. The food got bland, there wasn't much choice, and some of the staff got a little bit rude as we were all inclusive and not self catering, which means they didn't get tips.

The pool was lovely, but freezing!!!

The smell from behind the hotel in the evening some nights was terrible, it smelt like a toilet after a rugby team had been in it!!!

The purpose of our holiday was to completely relax for a week in the sun. The weather was great and due to the remote location, there was nothing else to do other than relax!

The hotel public areas and the bedroom were spotlessly clean and comfortable.

We opted for a double sea view room. The bathroom could have done with a refurb and the shower water pressure was non-existent. The towels were sometimes so old and threadbare that I thought they'd be more appropriately used to clean the floors!

I thought the food was OK but after a week became quite repetitive. Breakfast was buffet style and average for a 4* hotel. The pool bar and Pizzeria restaurant offer a good all inclusive snack menu for most of the day which included sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, scampi, salads etc and you could order as much and as often as you wanted. Unfortunately, eating outside was impossible when we were there due to all of the flies swarming around so we opted for the main restaurant or the Pizzeria each day. The all inclusive dinner was served in the main restaurant and had a large selection to choose from. Soup, hor d'oeuvres, main course (joint of meat each night, fish dish, vegetarian dish, pasta dish and one or two other meat dishes). You could also opt to eat dinner in the Pizzeria and select dishes at 50% of menu price.

The selection of all inclusive drinks were fine except the wine which came out of litre cartons and was drinkable but not great. You could purchase any non-inclusive drinks such as better wine and branded spirits at 50% of the menu price.

Overall, the holiday did what we wanted. More than a week though would have sent us crazy and we won't be going back to Malta again!

The hotel and grounds were spotless.

The food was very good considering the number of guests being catered for. No chips on the menu all week although they were available at the snack bar. A good variety offered each day with something for everyone.

The location is fairly remote but the hotel supplies a free minibus into the nearer towns, with a small charge for longer trips like Valetta.

I have never met such friendly staff, nothing was too much for them and it was a pleasure to be looked after by them.

Entertainment was of the normal hotel standard. Johnny Gee really works hard to ensure everyone is entertained and you can understand why he is mentioned in previous reviews.

Would re-visit and recommend this hotel

We read the reviews on here before we went on our honeymoon to the Coastline and we were really worried about what we'd let ourselves in for. However, we have to say that we don't agree with a lot that we had read.

OK so the hotel does have a very big wasp and fly problem, this bothered me but didn't seem to bother others. Yes you can smell the tip on one or two days a week, but you ge used to it and it's not over powering.

We thought the food here in the restaurant was absoloutly gorgeous! By far the best hotel food we've ever had, it was as though we were eating out at an expensive restaurant evry night.

The AI drinks were OK. Obvioulsy you didn't get any good quality wines or imported beers on this, but the local beer was good enough for us, and the cocktails were a favourite of ours too.

Most of the bar staff were really friendly, chatting and joking with you. The restaurant staff were a bit less so, but ok all the same. The reception staff were good, and we felt like we were actually important customers to them, not just another tourist if you get what I mean.

The location for us was bad, but no different to how it was described in the brochure. We prefer to see a bit of local culture, but the only town near by was Buggiba which is basically a British tourist resort. The bus into Bugibba is good though, and we could get local buses from the station there to Mdina and Valetta etc.

The entertainment was so bad it was funny! I agree that it is not what you expect for a 4 star hotel. Normally we don't bother with hotel enetertainment but as it was AI we felt as though we wanted to get our moneys worth of drinks, so didn't venture off site much.

We were slightly disapointed that we didn't get a room upgrade with it being our honeymoon, and all we got was a free bottle of red wine in our room. Not ungreatful or anything but you normally expect a bit of special treatment for your honeymoon don't you. The view from our balcony was of a derilict building, so perhaps the etxra money for a sea view would be a good idea.

The only reason we would not stay here again is because we have decided Malta is not the place for us, but if we were to go there again we'd probably stay here.

The rooms were big enough the big downside was the flies the place was infested with them, this is the reason we would not return. The staff continually sprayed the place but it was a waste of time, apparently there is a rubbish tip at the back which is to blame.

As always, any opinion of a hotel is influenced by what you want from a holiday, and what you make of it. I've just returned from a week's stay at the Coastline, and my perceptions are:

Cleanliness is very good, amongst the best I've seen at a hotel;

Food - for a 4-star hotel, generally quite poor. Some good menu items, but on average, I've had better. The fresh-cooked omlettes at breakfast are superb, shame the fruit juice seems a bit watery. The pizzeria menu was good quality and very good value, the main restuarant was disappointing;

Location: Opinion will probably vary depending on how active you want to be on holiday. Bugibba is a long trek or a quick bus ride away. From Bugibba, buses can be picked up to most places on the island, and buses to Sliema (from where you can get to Valetta either by bus or ferry) go right past the hotel on the coast road. The hotel has a pool and large sun deck area, which would suit those who just want to soak up the sun.

Staff: On the whole, the staff are wonderful - friendly and efficient. One notable exception, sadly, who seems to only want to serve the women he fancied.

Entertainmet: As I was on a dance holiday, I didn't see much of the hotel's own entertainment, other than when heading for the bar. On the whole, it was no more tha adequate, but Johnnie Gee's act is worth catching, he know how to get a good atmosphere going,

A very nice hotel which directly overlooks Salina Bay, your room will either overlook the bay or if you are at the back of the hotel your balcony will overlook hills. The hotel is not greatly situated for those with walking difficulties or pushchairs - there is either quite a long steep slope or steep steeps down to the road. The hotel does however run a free bus into Bughibba - about 5-10 min trip, it would take about 30-40mins to walk, so if you like to have a stroll out after dinner you are not able to.

You are able to catch the local Yellow Bus service from the bottom of the hotel to almost anywhere on the Island for just 50 cents. Valletta and Silema are great for shopping. There is a waterpark just up the road which would only take about 5 mins on a yellow bus.

The hotel did not really cater for children, but does have an outdoor splash/paddaling pool and the inside pool, although not large, is not very deep. There are highchairs and a childrens menu, we were advised that if our 19month old did not like the food on the evening menu that they would provide something she would eat instead.

The hotel does not just serve English tourists.

The food was really nice, evening dinner saw a choice of usually two meat dishes, one fish and one vegetarian, along with salads, cheese, pasta and soup options, along with a few choices of dessert and icecream. The main meals, soup and icecream were served from behind the counter to you but the portions were generous and you could go up as many times as you liked.

The evening entertainment was not great but it was okay, mainly singing, but a couple of bingo nights were on the programme. There are plently of lounge chairs you can relax on though so you do not have to sit in the bar if you do not wish too.

The staff were freindly and all spoke english to a very good standard. On arrival we were missing the third bed in our room for our 19month old, it took reception less than 5mins to relsolve and within that time we have a third bed made up in our room.

We arrived at the Coastline hotel to see nothing around where we were about to spend a fortnight.

On arrival the hotel did feed us even though we did not arrive until 10.30pm which was good. Went out by the pool area and the smell hit us like a bus.

The hotel staff were not very friendly to all inclusive guests and much preferred paying guests as they thought they would get a tip out of the change!!! The all inclusive range of drinks were horrendous and tasted awful, watered down for profitability.

The entertainment was embarrasing for a four star hotel although we have got to say Johnny Gee was a star and we thoroughly enjoyed the last night out of the fortnight!!

My advice, got kids forget this hotel as it is really geared towards the older generation and when they say a quiet area, it means ghastly. Oops I mean ghostly. It was the longest two weeks of our life!!!!!

We booked this holiday through malta direct and was forced to book two rooms because we have 3 small children and rooms only allocate 4.

When we arrived the management found out that we did not use the 2nd allocated room and upgraded us free of charge to compensate our extra cost of the 2nd room, this was not their responsibility and we cannot fault their helpfulness.

We also asked about a kids club and the very next day they hired 2 childrens entertainers for the children this again was exceptional.

The entertainer JOHNNIE GEE is absolutely fantastic with all age groups and is now a LEGEND in our house!!!!!

Location is perfect the quietest place we have stayed and ample parking, they even told us to park in the managers bay if no space available and they would move the car later.

All staff were magnificent and we cannot fault the helpfulness, friendliness and professionalism into making sure your holiday is 100% enjoyed.

We have booked up direct with the hotel and would not stay anywhere else. FIRST CLASS HOTEL!!!!!!!!!

This hotel was the best and cleanest in Malta when it was Thomson Gold but it has let its standards slip whilst its sister hotel is being built at the top of the island it is a great pity, but the food was well cooked and presented and what staff there is left are very helpful and polite,It is a great shame that they are still dumping rubbish and that it is getting into the sea as it is spoiling such a lovely hotelWe enjoyed our stay with the help of the entertainment team (Johnny Gee)was brill and if it was not for the rubbish we would recemmend this hotel to all.

Have been three times to Malta so far the best hotel i have stayed in, it is near the salt pans but the view you get from a sea view room is fantastic the rooms are very spacious, staff helpful, free mini bus transport into buggiba town several times a day in the summer
