| said: The Tej, 4 star - yeah it is, but its a 4 star North african hotel, so bare that in mind - it is not the same as 4 star here in the UK, but it is a high standard when compared to other hotels in Tunisia.
The half board option was good- we had no problems with the seection at all - in fact totally to the contrary, the food was excellant.
Buffet style, breakfast and dinner, and yes there are doughnuts for breakfast, but not every day.
You have eggs - scrambled, boiled ( 3mins and 5) fried, salad is always around, yogurt, juice, tons of bread options, croissants, sausages, tomatoes, omelettes, cereals, juices - in fact always tons of options.
Dinner - I had something different every day - and given that I am a real picky eater ( I hate fish, pasta, cheese and tomatoes ) thats no mean feat.
Kebabs, Fries, Potatoes, Salad, Chicken, Stew, and loads more.
Like others have said on here, if you get Ali as your waiter you are onto a winner - and he is the only guy called Ali working as a waiter - I know as I asked him - he is the one with the glasses - and you could not ask for a more helpful, friendly nice guy.
Location - really good - walking distance of stuff, just down to the beach.
In respect of the entertainment - we did not really get into any of it - we wanted a quiet holiday, just the 2 of us, and thats what we got, but it did look a little bit "dated" bingo, boules, best couple!!

basic and although they say shower in there brochure
you have to step into a bath which is very high the food
is alright if you like eating the same thing every day there entertainment was very poor on a couple occasions
it rained there was nothing to do a few board games
would have been good i think this hotel needs to recruit
new entertainment staff and think up new ideas to entertain holiday makers during the day not just the evening would i return no.

Would you visit this hotel again - yes flying out next week for the 5th year.
We got married September 2004 and we had booked into a hotel in Sousse, could not remember the name, a few weeks before our honeymoon the travel company called to say we had to move to another hotel, cannot remember why. We were moved to the Tej Marhaba. I had been on a few review websites about the hotel and lots of people said to me you will love it or hate it. After our wedding we had a night flight so we arrived in the dark and did not know what to expect. Well, as soon as we woke up the next morning we felt like we were in heaven, our room was on the 3rd floor and it overlooked the pool and sunbathing area. It was magnificent, the staff were really nice, the food was excellent, the pool was very nice, overall the hotel was fantastic. Sousse is absolutely breath taking too, we also visited the Sahara Desert...what an experience, it was amazing. Our honeymoon was that brilliant we went back the following year for our wedding anniversary (Sep/Oct). Both of these times the weather was not really hot and not too cold, so we then decided to go back the following year, which we did, this time we went in June, the weather was really hot and this trip got better and better, this was the same year I fell off the hotel steps by the pool area and had to be taken to hospital for an x-ray, I badly sprained my ankle luckily it happened two days before were due to fly home, the staff in the hotel and the hospital were very kind and supportive in my hour of need. We went back last year again, in the June and we took our 15 year old daughter, she fell in love with the place too, lots of shops for shopping. We are going back this year for the 5th time in July.....the Tej Marhaba will be forever. We love this hotel.

| said: Tej Marhaba is a fantastic hotel. It has its own shopping centre (quite expensive though), Rose and Crown pub – English pub with a hint of Irish (supposedly – couldn’t work that out at all)!! Its bit dark and depressing in there for my liking, but each to their own. Dolce Vita restaurant (pizza is nicer in the Oasis restaurant by the pool) and the nightclub (never went there). The only gripes we had was the rubbish customer service. But we found that all over Tunisia, not just the hotel. They don’t seem to like the English very much for some reason!!!
The room was absolutely fine, the bed was comfortable, the carpets were clean, the balcony was clean. The bathroom was not quite as clean as I personally would have liked but I just bought cleaning fluid and a couple of cloths and cleaned it myself!! There was a fridge in the room big enough to store 3 large bottles of water, and a little freezer section for ice cubes. There was a telly in the room with only 2 English channels, BBC world and CNN.
The pool area is heavenly. The pool is refreshingly cool, and there are many sunbeds to choose from, under parasols or not. The mattress guy will come straight over to you to put mattress on your sunbed. We normally gave him 1dinar tip for us both. But by the end of the holiday, we had to join in with the ‘save your sunbed club’ and tip him 2 dinars to save our sunbeds!! Otherwise all the sunbeds are taken by the time you have finished your breakfast on a hot day!
The restaurant is ok. Very little fruit though…. Only watermelon and peaches…..
Breakfast – Freshly cooked pancakes and doughnuts, two types of cereal, eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Unfortunately we broke the toaster on our third day so now they do all the toast in the kitchen and leave it in a basket for the guests, its alright if you like cold toast!! (Sorry everyone…)
Dinner - If you are not a vegetarian you will find plenty of choices, 2 choices of soup, 3 different meats, rice, chips, potatoes, vegetables, etc. The puddings are lovely. I had chocolate cake everyday!

We found the staff this hotel to be extremely friendly it was clean and cleaners were always around keeping it clean.
The food was superb, we were half board and the choices were many and varied and seved at very good hours.
Location was perfect, about 10 minutes walk into Sousse.
Staff extremely friendly, we took some photos and sent copies to them.
Entertainment was sometimes a bit weak, ie bingo, but overall they tried hard.
Would definitely visit again, in fact we are returning this weekend for a two week break.

| said: The Tej hotel has good access facilities for disabled people, with automatic doors, lifts and ramps everywhere.
The reception area is marble and is very upmarket, also very spacious, with a bar area, much seating and animation on show everynight.
The rooms are large, I would advise anyone to request a pool view room, not front facing as we were at the front, it's too noisy as Tej is on a busy road and the views are not nice, as construction is going on across the road, taxis up and down, etc. Also, request a room facing the pool and high up 5th - 7th floor and you will have a nice sea view also, but sea view can only be obtained from the rear.
The room had carpet, the first I have ever seen in Tunisia, fully carpeted. This helped as the weather was not hot and the room stayed warm, nice to be about without having to wear flip flops all the time. There was a double and a single bed in the room, balcony, but the balcony door opened the wrong way, so wouldn't open fully and kept banging against the wall. There's A/C, although that's not until the summer months, a fridge in the room, telephone, radio with 5 stations and TV. We tried the TV but no channels were working, so never got to watch anything!
Bathroom was a good size, bath, shower, sink, and the toilet is like a room inside the bathroom, so you could shut it off separately, that was good. Only thing is that when you take a shower, the water doesn't go down as fast, so by the time you've finished the shower, you have water up to your ankles, weren't impressed with that, also bath plug didn't work, so had no alternative but to have a shower. Advice regarding the toilet is to bring your own toilet tab to put in the cistern, to have a fresh smell after flushing as although the maid cleaned it daily, I felt it smelled. Rooms need the key for electricity, once you get in the rooms, you need to put that in the compartment on the wall for lights, etc. So bring a spare clubcard, etc for that.
The maid cleans well, also does your clothes in nice patterns on the bed, changes towels daily, not sure if she changed our sheets but beds were made daily. Corridors always had a fresh lemon smell which was nice. There are sofas on each floor by the lift, so if for some reason it's taking long to arrive you can chill out by the lift..lol
Food was good, breakfast was breads, fresh wholemeal, white and many different types, toast, freshly made pancakes, freshly made doughnuts, fried eggs, boiled eggs, sausages which are nice, vegetarian or beef I think, tomatoes boiled, salads, yoghurts, cheeses, cereals, juice, coffee, tea, note that there is no fresh cold water for breakfast, so bring that with or you'll have to pay 1dinar 500 millimmes for a bottle.
Dinner was different each night, always pasta on offer, spaghetti bolognese, chips, salads, omlettes, fish, vegetables. Different nights there was rabbit, cous cous with chicken, beef, turkey escallopes. Generally I enjoyed both breakfast and dinner and ate in the restaurant everyday. The waiter gives you a table and this table is assigned to you for the duration of your holiday.
Restaurant staff are polite and multilingual.
Entertainment lookede lively, I was never there to watch a show, but on the way in and out, it looked good, pity I never had enough time to watch. Always many people watching. Comedy sketch show, disco, theme dancing, bingo, something different every night.
Pool area quite spacious, although no slides or diving boards. A tiny and I mean tiny kids pool, grown up pool good. There's another pool behind the main pool which was small also, it seemed like a waste of pool and water, not quite sure what it was for really, it looked a little green in colour too, like the pool was becoming a pond, but it's separate anyway. They apparently do aqua aerobics by the pool but I never saw that once in my time at the hotel. Maybe it's just a summer thing. They only serve pizza and drinks by the pool. Watch out for cats mess around pool area too. There are a few cats about, never inside the hotel, just by pool area.
Neat walkway, access from the pool area, walk up some steps, past the pool and you can access the Tej shopping centre, where there are coffee shops, clothes shops, etc. It's also a short cut to the beach and sousse centre.
Location of the hotel is good, but not the best, walk to sousse centre where the medina is will take you at least 25 mins, but turn right out of the hotel walk to top of the road and you can get louages to sousse and tafarla (louage station) for 500 millimmes per person.
Word of advice, when going to the airport, if you are arranging your own private transfer, do not accept from the reception concierge, go out of the grounds call a taxi, they are so frequent passing by and pay only by meter with maybe 2 dinar extra for baggage, the concierge is a big rip-off!
Enjoyed Tej Marhaba, posh hotel, but it was a bit out of the way for me, I like to be in the centre of everything! Would definetely go back again, my 7yr old daughter loved it there.
Clientele is a mixture, English, German, Finnish, French, Americans, everyone is here.
Before I forget, next door there is a Tej coffee shop which is quite nice, also the Tej Fitness centre, with gym, spa treatments, a travel cure cost 55 dinar which is hammam steam, body peel, algae rub, massage for 30 mins. The hammam steam room wasn't hot at all, the body scrub wasn't hard enough, also do not let them put this clove rub over you once you have finished with the algae mud, as it will burn, I had to wash off after 2 mins, so refuse it or you will be sorry! The massage was good, but I did not think it was worth the money. My advice, go to Sousse palace, pay 60 dinar for a similar treatment, with a proper steam room, better treatments, better massage and only 5 dinar more. You do not need to be a hotel guest to use spa treatments in other hotels, Sousse Palace I have found to be the best.
Nice hotel, a cut above the rest. Once you go here, you may not want to settle for 3 star again.

| said: When arriving on the hotel it looked lovely, we walked indoors to the reception, told to fill out some details then were given our keys. The porter brought our cases up and we tipped him in sterling which he was very grateful of
our rooms was big, a big bed, tv, bath and shower it was livable and clean, yes there was a stain on the carpet but what to people expect! its not like the hotel is going to take up the carpet just to remove a stain!
The BEDS were fine NOT like I have read of some reviews like concreate!
Fresh towels if you wanted them everyday but if you didnt want your room cleaned then you just put a sign on your door and they would leave your room.
The hotel itself is very big you have a indoor pool which WAS heated...it was lovely! the outdoor pool is huge too but not heated so as you and imagine it was cold but once you are in it you are fine!
Eating at the hotel was fine, quite a wide choice, mornings would be very the same ranging from pancakes, bread, sausage, eggs, yoghurts, ham, cheese
and at evenings you had choice from chicken, beef, turkey, salad, pasta which was cooked while you watched, soup, lots of desserts from custard to cream cakes etc...something for everyone and I am a picky eater but even I found things.
Round the pool was nice with free sunbeds and parasols, a man would greet you everyday and give you a cushion, people have really put bad things on here about him but he was lovely he's NOT pushy just there to help and doesnt expect tips, we did tip him everyday just for being lovely to us! so please be nice to him hes a great man.
The hotel does have a shopping centre onsite, it has a handful of clothes and shoe shops and some restaurants
theres the rose and crown that serves english food, from jacket potatoes, sandwichs with tuna, cheese, bacon etc and salads all at a cheap price. There is a pizza place there as well as the bistro this is a german restaurant but a lot of the english seemed to be going there serving again the same as above really.
Also onsite there is a gym, costing 8 diner to go in, massage, sauna and personal classes you can purchase
In the evening at the hotel they had entertainment, bands, magic shows, bingo, dancing...this was all in the main bar and stage area, their is also a piano bar to have a drink in as well if you dont want to watch the entertainment, the waiter their is lovely too.
A safety deposit box is 17 diner but you get the 10 back when you have done, it is located in the reception back area.
Also you can change money at the hotel, its open at 10 for a few hours then opens at 5 again for a little while.

Certainly not 4 star standard. The rooms were clean but very old fashioned. Pool facilities and pool restaurant were good, but main restaurant was poor, and very uncomfortable to sit and enjoy your meal as they wouldn't turn on the air conditioning. Poor selection of food especially at breakfast and we are not fussy eaters.
My husband unfortunately got food poisoning (which we blame on the hotel salads) on the 3rd day and spent the next 4 days in the hotel room very ill. On his return to the UK he had to have over 2 weeks off work. Not one of our best holidays!!!!!!

| said: Just arrived back from the Tej Marhaba Hotel and we had a great time.
I did have some reservations about Tunisia before I arrived, but I needn't of worried. One thing I will say is that, if you are expecting Tunisia to be like Spain or Greece, then you will be in for a shock.
Whilst staying in this hotel, there are many people from all over the world that stay here. Whilst we were there, there was Dutch, Germany, French, Spanish, Italian and other Tunisian. The hotel is huge. There are many shops and restaurants and bars attached, that you do not need to venture out of the complex. We went into the Rose and Crown (English bar) and the staff in there were fantastic. They are so friendly and will do anything for you. They have a karaoke night on a Monday and Friday, which is run made a lad called Sam. Lovely bloke, also the bar staff Ali, Mohammad, Ali, Kenzizi, who are all brilliant.
The food in the hotel was brilliant. The evening meal was the best. You had some much to choice from, it was untrue. The breakfast wasn't very good. There was no bacon (NOOOOOOOO), and the sausages they had were pretty horrid. It mainly consisted of baked beans (curry flavour??), boiled eggs, fried eggs, tomatoes, bread and the best was the Pancakes. Freshly made will you wait, oh they were lovely!! Also, you had fruit and pasties.
All in all, we had a great time in the hotel. It may not be to everyone's taste, but if you just want to have a nice relaxing holiday, then this is the place to go to.

| said: On arriving to the Hotel we received a good welcome and was allowed to change currency despite it being nearly midnight (the cashier has set times during the day).
The rooms are a little dated and there were problems with the lifts whilst we were there, however one thing that could not be faulted was the cleanliness. I would say that the hotel rooms lacked some facilities i.e. fridge, for it to be classed as a four star hotel, although fridges can be hired at an extra charge of 15 dinars per week (£7).
The swimming pool was fantastic and they did games and aerobics in the pool daily.
The beach is easy to get to and we did not find the road that busy although don't lift your arms or you'll have 5 taxi's waiting for you by the road side.
The food was OK, during my stay I was 23 weeks pregnant so I had to be a little bit more careful than I usually would.
We found the Italian restaraunt a good choice if you wanted to eat out, and the cafe very nice especially if there is a football fan in your party as they have a large screen.
We found in general the locals to be very friendly and did not get hassled at all a simple no or shake of the head is enough for street sellers to leave you alone.
We had a very relaxing week although I know I shouldn't complain it was too hot for me (42C).
I would love to go back when 1, I'm not pregnant and 2, It's a little cooler

| said: We stayed for 7 nights and we were pleased with our choice. The location was good, with plenty within walking distance.
A relaxing environment with a great beach a short walk away, just enough to walk off the freshly cooked pancakes at breakfast. On the way to the beach you could stop & browse in the shopping complex attached to the hotel, then dream of what to purchase as you laze on the sunbed for a few hours.
The pool area was relaxing as there was no noise which was fab as all too often I have needed my MP3 player just to stay sane. there were no sunbed charges at the beach or pool, although a tip was expected for the priveledge of a cushion being supplied to your sunbed.
Staff were all polite and helpful, maids to managers alike and you were designated a waiter in the restaurant who was very pleasant and attended to any requests or problems.
The entertainment was geared mainly for the older clientele with Bingo and dancing competitions a firm favourite, this was interesting and not to be missed! but as there were other bars and a night club close by it wasn't a problem.
I would visit the hotel again and plan to do so in September.

| said: From the moment we arrived at the Tej Mahaba hotel we were greeted by ignorant staff. The hotel lobby etc is very nice and looks posh but when you get to the rooms, they look like they've been stuck in a time warp. The staff are only nice when they are waiting for a tip - which is every single time they get you a drink etc.
There is nothing to do at night in the Tej Mehaba, except wait until 9-10 pm to play bingo or watch belly dancing. Although they have a nightclub on site (that keeps you awake until 4 ) I wouldn't advise girls to go without male company as the locals flock to you and hassle you all night. We even got hassled playing bingo in the hotel foyer!!
The 'private beach' is through the hotel shopping mall and across a busy main road, down a narrow alley and takes approx 10 minutes. Once there, you are hassled again by locals selling boat trips, camel trips and nuts! The beach itself is stunning but unfortunately, the whole experience is exhausting due to the hassle once there.
The hotel does not cater for children and we even heard the hotel manager having an argument with a woman about this in the foyer. Her children had nowhere safe to play and her young son had cut his chin open in the pool. The manager screamed that it was not a hotel for children and they were not welcome.

The reception staff are nice but some of the staff in the restaurant and bars were extremely rude to people and were talking arabic in front of people thinking that us tourists wouldn't understand.
Well myself and my sister and friends do understand arabic and didnt take too kindly to the conversations. The barmen often forget to do their job and prefer to do nothing instead. Needless to say, no tips were given to these individuals.
I have to say the staff at the pool cant do enough for you. They made my holiday each year and because of them, they make me want to return year after year to base myself there when I visit my friends in Sousse.

We stayed 14 nights and found the hotel to be very nice, very clean and the staff are lovely.
The entertainment in the Hotel is the same each week, so by the second week we had seen it.
We went on the trip to the Sahara, and on an African Zulu night which was very good, and I would definitely recommend.
The food is very nice, but yes it is pretty much the same most nights. But there is always something to eat!

First Choice rep not very helpful. Hotel staff are helpful. Tunisians expect tips all the time. On the first day the porter took our cases up 4 us and just stood in the room waiting for a tip as you are not allowed to take any money in we had none to give him so he wasnt very happy.
We ran out of dinars for coming home so gave the cleaner a couple of pounds which didnt go down very well she still took it with no thanks which made me angry.
The pool is nice and big and clean. The shows are fairly good must see them men who lay on nails and glass.
The hotel does trips to see sousse the local football team to play I really enjoyed it.
Hotel is clean there are maids cleaning around the clock.
Sunbeds are of good value we gave a dinar a day.

We were on half board and although the food was not fantastic we always found something to eat however 4/5 days into our holiday I was diagnosed as suffering from colitis. The doctor was called and everyone was very helpful and caring it did not spoil the holiday I would advise you take Immodium plus they did the trick.
The hotel was very clean the maids go around both inside and out all day and night linen changed every day as were towels beware that there are no pool towels. There is no fridge or tea making facilities in the rooms and we asked about hiring a kettle and we could not we did learn near the end of the holiday we could have hired a fridge.
There are shops and a few bars around the hotel and the beach is not far however after one shopping trip we stayed in the hotel I could not stand being harassed all the time off shop owners and I felt a little threatened.
The waiters are very good and attentive I also found the pool staff very helpful and attentive for a small tip which becomes habit.
The entertainment was terrible but they did try.
The only reason I would visit this hotel again is if I wanted a cheap week in the sun as the weather was fabulous but I think we would go with another couple to entertain our selves at night.

| said: The hotel reception is fantastic with very helpful staff at all times. The room was cleaned everyday thoroughly. Although the food was very good, there was not much choice for breakfast, but on the whole a wide variety to suit all tastes.
The hotel is situated in a location very accessible to all places. The beach is about 1min away and very clean. There were men who walked up and down the beach offering you anything from cigarettes to flowers but they are moved on quickly. There is not much to do in the evenings apart from the hotel entertainment which would not suit everybody.

| said: The hotel was looking a little tired when we arrived, through the week it was getting its' spring clean with painters and decorators busy. The rooms were standard North African fare, functional rather than fabulous. The food was acceptable, if you take the approach that you can eat out for very reasonable prices and that you aren't paying a lot for the hotel food than it becomes more palatable. The hotel staff are more attentive if you tip, small but regular keeps them alert. Entertainment this early in the season was never going to be great, later in the year there is more of it and it is better organised. Luckily we fell in with some fellow guests and made our own entertainment in local bars and restaraunts. Look it is cheap and cheerful, you could do a lot worse, plus some touches are excellent, in-door pool, lobby area, showers are most powerfull in any hotel I have been in.

Food wasn’t bad, bit repetitive by end of week, vegetarians not well catered for, unless you only eat salad, soup and potatoes in various forms.
Location was good, close to beach and shops, transport easily available and cheap.
Entertainment not brilliant but if you have nothing better to do then....
I would go back if I went to Sousse again, but the world is a big place!!

The hotel itself is very clean but there is little in the way of entertainment, the hotels very own nightclub, billed as 'the largest in Africa' is smaller than my local social club and about as entertaining!
The staff are unfriendly and always after a tip for just about everything.
You can't go out at night because of the hassle from the local men and with just 2 women in our party it was sparticularly intimididating.
I wouldn't go back here if you paid me!

| said: The food was clearly re-cycled and it was fairly predictable what you were going to have for breakfast (i.e. if the lightly roasted potatoes weren't eaten in the evening meal, they were well-roasted for the morning!) I was a vegetarian, so had even less choice than most, surviving on rolls, salad & cheese for most of the holiday.
The room was ok for a week. The toilet had a big brown water streak down the back of it and quite frankly smelt awful on entering the wc first time but again, we could live with it - for a week.
The entertainment was well... entertaining - IF you were over 70ish, ball-room style dancing...
Drinks are expensive - muslim country and all that. The local brew (lager) is an experience, but don't think that you'll be able to drink much of it as it doesn't taste that good.
The outdoor pool was freezing. My son jumped in it the first day we arrived and jumped out again much quicker. The indoor spa pool is lovely and hot like bath water but there's a black layer of silt all around it which can get under your nails if you don't go careful.
The reception staff were more interested in French speaking guests and business men than helping 'loopy' English people, one of the guests staying the same time as us was actually told that (in a hand signalling motion.) One dinar tip and you'll be waited on for hours though.
Afternoon tea in the piano bar was good value and at least you got to swap stories with fellow loopy English!
A trip to the Sahara was our saving grace. A long hard few days away but sitting on a coach was better entertainment than sitting around the freezing pool. Beware though - the camels smell and the people who lead them want tips for everything.

| said: The hotel itself is fine. It is clean, the staff are helpful and attentive, and the food is hot and well presented and tastes fine if a bit repetitive.
The location of the Hotel is only five minutes walk from the beach and near a full range of shops and small restaurants, unfortunately during February very few of them are open and the few that are tend to be deserted. You may find yourself in a bar and be the only ones there.
The hotel Staff are friendly and attentive and nothing seems to be any problem. However be aware they expect a tip after every transaction at the bar so the best way to avoid tipping every time is to pay for all your drinks at the end. This isn’t a problem as they will give you a receipt for every round purchased. Tipping is expected but if you tip every time it can mean that you end up not having change and constantly having to change notes if you give one big tip at the end of the evening it saves the hassle. One last thing give the cleaners in the hotel a smile now and again, everybody ignores them and they do keep the place spotless and are probably the ones nobody remembers to tip.
The hotel has a band, all fine musicians, only for some reason the lyrics although word perfect seem to take on a kind Tunisian cadence which renders some of the songs hilarious (might have been the booze on that night though) However when the band starts off with "the last waltz" it kind of tells you the level at which the entertainment is pitched.
All in all I wouldn't go back.

The hotel was clean and the food was fine - I got sick of hearing people say that the English breakfast was rubbish - you are on holiday in a different country, why would you want to eat bacon and eggs? As Tunisia is a Muslim country they don't eat pork so you won't be having bacon.
I didn't feel safe leaving the hotel, which is probably why it is self contained. The nightclub was a hideous experience where we were hassled continuously and offered drugs. When you walk down the street people stop and look at you. The resort is aimed at French, German and British, but most of the locals make you feel unwelcome.
The whole place was hideous and I will never return to Tunisia

Waiters were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure I had a variety of vegetarian options - which was cooked especially for me.
Rooms very spacious and very clean, with a lovely view over the pool area. Beware of going out to the pool area though as a waiter out there will get you one as soon as you walk into the area and then expect a tip!!! Not so bad at 1st but it soon adds up by the end of the week!
Really lovely hotel though and would recommend it highly, just shame about the location.

| said: The Tej Marhaba has a very grand entrance and a lovely reception area, and we were lucky enough to have a room with a view to the pool below and the sea beyond.
Our room was fine although our TV was broken and was not fixed over the course of the 2 weeks, though to be fair we did not press to have this done as we didn't miss it at all!
You have the same waiter for the duration of your stay and ours was lovely and efficient and this applied to all the other staff as well. Special mention must go to the waiter by the pool and also to Ali in the piano bar!
The outside pool was freezing but fine once you started swimming, and there is a heated indoor pool. These were cleaned and swept every day. Some of the sunbeds did have a few cracks in them, but they worked fine and were comfy once the mat was in place!
You do need to be prepared to tip everyone, but this becomes a habit.
I thought that the location of the hotel was much better than say those in Port El Kantaoui (a horribly fake resort), as it is centrally located in a traditional Tunisian town and close to the beach. It is also a perfect base to explore the whole country as we went up to the capital in the North and to the Sahara in the South!
I would definitely return to Tunisia and also to this hotel, as the staff and the location were fantastic!

| said: My boyfriend and i visited the Tej Marharba in September this year.
Had a lovely holiday, but found ourselves getting bored by the end of the week so were glad we hadnt booked for a fortnight.
Ultimately, this hotel is pleasent, and definately one of the best in the area, but in need of a refurb. We got the impression that it had been quite grand, maybe ten years ago, but the cracks are beginning to show, and although our room was very nice, the shower soaked the whole bathroom when it was turned on, tiles were cracked, and there were exposed wires on the balcony that i wouldnt have felt comfortable about, if we'd had children with us.
Entertainment in the hotel is rare (a jazz band visit a few times a week), but their english is limited, so songs we recognised were things like When The Saints Go Marching In, and Auld Langs Eyne....not exectly lively, maybe better for an older crowd, but were both 21 so we didnt really enjoy staying in the hotel in the evening.
Luckily, the hotel has a small shopping centre attached (but dont get too excited, ladies, unless youre after fake dolce and gabanna jeans, im afraid youll be disappointed). Within the shopping centre was an "english pub", full of tunisian men trying to find a lovely english lady; they can be quite pushy and make going to the bar alone uncomfortable, so i wouldnt recommend ladies going without a man to protect them from the locals.
Theres a big culture gap, as long as you expect it, and dress accordingly when you leave the hotel, it should be fine.
Worth a mention is Port el Kantoui; maybe I havent spelt it right? theres a nice little harbour and some lovely fish restaurants.
The hotel offers a tunisian themed evening, for which you have to pay extra, or eat your evening meal outside the hotel. We took lunch instead of dinner on this day and took the oppertunity to visit the port; glad we did.
Worth avoiding is the old town of Sousse; we found it quite scarey, actually, being dragged into shops, jumped infront of by traders. Obviously, the economy in Tunisia isnt fantastic, but this made us feel uncomfortable, and we just wanted to get out of the place. Luckily, we could barge through, but if we were an elderly couple i think it couldve posed a problem.
Overall, we enjoyed our holiday, the weather was lovely and the food was great. Our room needed a revamp, but the tv worked, as did the air con, and it was kept lovely and clean by the maid who liked to make swans out of my pyjamas.
I would visit Tunisia again, but would maybe choose a hotel which had entertainment aimed at english-speaking couples/families. After a day lounging by the pool, we felt our only highlight of the evening was eating our dinner; then it fell flat. there wasnt much around the hotel, and so we relied upton the hotel to provide entertainment, but with the absence of an entertainment team, we felt our evenings fell a little flat, and so we ended up watching english football in the english pub (which is soimething id avoid like the plague if I was at home!!).
If you are considering this hotel for a family holiday, I wouldnt recommend it. If youve found a cheap deal here, as a couple, and all you want is a week in the sun, eating and drinking, then its ok; but I, personally, would recommend you consider what youll do in the evening, as good evening entertainment really does make your holiday.

| said: Resort is fine with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Tej Marhaba gives the impression of being Grand with marble entrance hall, reception area and bar facilities. The room was spacious though did overlook a busy road. This did not bother us as the patio doors were double glazed and kept out the noise. In fact, we enjoyed being on this side of the hotel as we could see all the activity from the balcony. Bedding was changed every day as were the towels. One problem was that in a four star hotel, we did expect to find a fridge and hair dryer as standard. A hairdryer was loaned from a receptionist but of course, this meant the inevitable "tip".
The outside swimming pool was large though few people appeared to be using it. The lights at the side of the pool were not working and wires could be seen where the glass should have been! I hoped that the electricity would not be switched on!! The pool walls were very dirty and during the week we were there there did not appear to be any attempt to clean the pool.
The poolside furniture was tatty to say the most. Broken beds and umbrellas were the norm and most of it should have been discarded a few seasons back. We were found beds every day, again for a suitable "tip".
Food was the worst feature in its sheer monotony. The breakfast croissants were lovely and we can vouch for the pancakes but baked potato for breakfast!??
All the meat seemed to be well cooked but it was nearly always served warm. Yes we did succumb to "Delhi Belly" and Immodium seemed to be the standby of many of the guests. Towards the end of our week there was a definite improvement in the food quality-following complaints- and it was hot. Wine is good and reasonable, but don't go for whisky or brandy afterwards- it will set you back £4 a tot!
Entertainment is generally poor.
Shopping is great and there are multiple shops on site.
Recommended Restaurant: Sindbad right next door to the hotel. Food here is excellent, hot, well presented and the service is second to none.

The hotel was grand and by far the best in Sousse. The hotel was exceptionally clean with cleaners cleaning the full hotel 24/7. All staff were very friendly, one waiter at the pool looked after us for the full 2 weeks, for a small tip each day, by bringing our drinks over to us at the pool in an ice bucket and changed the ice every 30 mins. He also added extra food to whatever we ordered just by giving him a small tip. Our waiter who served us on the half board basis was very nice. He give us advice on the best places to go and visit around Tunisia and was always willing to help. In fact all the staff were great!!
The hotel room was clean and spacious, fresh towels and maid service every day. The hotel food was delicious, everything you could want was served. Something different everyday.
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the beach, tej marhaba has its own private part which is nice. Both the inside and outside pool were large and warm. The hotel also has its own shopping complex which is the biggest in Tunisia and its own disco which was huge. There are many bars within the hotel so you are never short of things to do at night. If you get bored of that you can always venture outside the hotel grounds were there are an array of bars there as well. The entertainment is not like you would find say in the Canary Islands, but thats why we choose Tunisia; however there is still plenty to keep you occupied.
There are many good things i could say about this hotel, but it would be better to find out yourself!!
I will def be going back there again.

| said: I had read through these reports previous to our visit and went with an open mind as most were complementary.
The hotel itself is very good, very clean and comfortable, good location to have a venture out with good facilities. Most people were friendly apart from a few (Later).
The first 2 nights in the restaurant i tried a bit of everything, my partner didn't touch any meat, then i came down with an upset stomach and had to take to the imodeum which lasted 3 days, that totally put me off the meat. All i can say is you get the same things night after night and i did have my doubts if it was all binned, The last 2 nights we dined out just in case and we couldn't face the same things again.
Some staff were friendly, we found one reception girl not very helpful at all, and one of the cashiers tried to con me. If you change money and its within the time frame he should be at the desk, watch that he uses the computer, if not you will get 2 Diner to the pound instead of the correct rate, if he doe's that simply ask for a receipt to jog his memory of the exchange rate.
Do not change more than you have to, when you travel back and change it at the airport you will lose out big time.
The Rose and crown staff not at all friendly, seems to be the "local" for Sousse.
In general, whilst you are out, unless you want anything you need to just keep saying "no thank you" and beware of allsorts of tricks.
Forget whisky will get you a leather coat, i took 2 ltrs and bought it back, they will ask if you have whisky to get you in the shop but it will not get you anymore than hastle to get out.
Don't get me wrong, Tunisia and this hotel was a good holiday, but beware of the tricks and read these reports, they will prepare you for it, if you can handle that you will have a good holiday.
Just to finish, one trip to do is the 2 day safari, excellent value.

the food was better than most people will get

the drinks were on the whole cheap and you will
struggle to spend all your money.
tipping is a way for the workers to subsidise their
poor wages. usually 1/2 a dinar to the pool side waiters is sufficient each time they tend to you or
just a couple of dinars (about a 80p)a day should be
ok to keep them happy, even if you don't tip they are
still friendly with you.
also if you tip the pool side attendant he will reserve
sunbeds for you everyday, but let him know if you will
not use the beds that day or morning because he will
get into trouble for holding them for nothing.
of an evening their is uasually a local band playing
old songs and occasional belly dancer.
there are late night discos from 1am !!!

There is a massive outside pool area and an indoor pool which were both very clean, take your own beach towels though as they don't let you take the hotel towels out of the rooms.
The food was very good, although very similar throughout the week. There was always Tunisian, Italian & English types of dishes. Breakfast was delicious!
The hotel has a shopping centre atached which is handy as there are bars & cafes & a club without having to step outside but it is only a 20 min walk to the centre of Sousse. And only 5 mins walk to the beach. Taxi's to everywhere were really cheap which is a great way to get about.
The hotel was very friendly, we met loads of people and the English Pub 'The Rose & Crown' was a great meeting point.
There wasn't much entertainment in the hotel, although I think that was because of the time of year.

How wrong we were!!!! We have had a ball. The hotel is beautiful with a very relaxed feeling to it. It is very clean and cool with a nice relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are large and very clean, most with fantastic views of the pool and sea. The food in the hotel was very nice but the menu was not varied. We found the food to be lovely though after two years in different hotels that served inedible food. The staff throughout the hotel were very courtious and friendly, nothing was too much for them. The actual hotel itself didnt really have much evening entertainment, but we were regulars at the rose and crown which had the nicest staff you could wish for. My sister and i liked to end the evening with a few hours of clubbing in the nightclub over the road called Bonaparte. The music is a mix of R&b with catchy arabic tunes. It really is an experience not to be missed. The "locals" that us tourists see are not the real local people of tunisia. Not everyone wants to crack on to english girls. As i have said, this was our fourth trip to tunisia and we have made some life long friends both male and female and we would strongly recommend tunisia and this hotel to anyone.

What a great hotel! All the members of staff from Reception to the maids were very friendly and helpful.
As there was no Smirnoff Ice, but I got accustomed to Fanta Lemon with Vodka. Very Nice!
The local brew of Celtia was very much appreciated by the two beer lovers that I was with .
Don’t expect the nightlife you get in the Canary Islands etc – but we all still had a fantastic holiday.
If you're going to Tunisia - stay at the Tej Marhaba

| said: We arrived to find hotel entrance all grand and fancy, soon changed when we went to our room. This room although very clean really would be lucky to be classed as 2*. It was in poor condition and really needs upgrading. My bed was terrible but my wife said that her bed was OK, so it must be down to luck.
Pool area is fine, some sunbeds do need throwing out but 1 dinar a day to nice pool man sorts you a good bed out everyday.
I found the food to be terrible, not badly cooked but just a real mish mash of different dishes i.e boiled potatoes & carrots for breakfast!! Food is aimed at locals to be honest but there are a number of resturants within 2 minutes where food is good and very cheap (T-Bone steak £6.
Staff are very friendly and efficient (might be little tips I gave them all the time).
Overall apart from tired room and some strange foods the hotel was satisfactory overall, I would not rush to go back but it was an average standard hotel (more like 3* to be honest)

| said: I have just returned from 10 days at this hotel and have to say that I had a great time. It's a fairly large hotel, but it's clean, the staff are friendly and efficient and there was plenty of food. I had no trouble at all getting a sunbed in the morning - in fact most of them were still available at 10am so no rushing down with towels to grab a sunbed!! I must agree that there isn't a great deal to do in the evenings, but I was happy just to sit by the bar and have a few drinks so if you are looking for nightlife I wouldn't say Tunisia is the place to go. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are thinking of going to Sousse.
