| said: This hotel is clean and the food was good as we always found something for eating at meal times and there was also snacks availble during the day and you can get pizza at night for supper.
Drinks were not that strong which is understandable as it was local stuff.
The location of this hotel is in the middle of nowhere , you can walk along the beach to other hotels but thats about it. If you want a chillout holiday lying in the sun and are not fussed about getting out and about this place is perfect , you can use taxis to get out and about but if you prefer being able to go for a walk I would say pick another resort.
I would go back to this hotel for a total chill out holiday as the staff and the entertainment team try their best to really look after you.
The gala dinners at christmas and new year were great and a lot of hard work for the staff with small touches like a muslin bag with chocs in it put into every room on christmas eve when we were all at christmas eve gala dinner and was a very nice touch from the hotel.
Only one thing I would say given you only get about 4 hours of sun a day most days in winter a week is long enough to go to tunisia if you want to just chill

| said: well what can i say...the hotel is set as a village of little bungalows. There spacious with a double bed and a single bed some having a settee that can be turned into a second single bed.The bathroom has the basic facilities and the rooms are big and clean.
The hotel has two large pools one quiter then the other and a inside pool and baby pool. The hotel grounds are continuely being maintained and are clean but old.
The pool/ground toilets admitely aren't for the faint hearted and are bit smelly, all they need are a bottle of bleach but to be honest they do.The staff are friendly, they do rely heavily on tips but aren't pushy and a couple of dinars thrown here and there is enough to make sure you ar looked after continuely for your stay. The entertainment is good with a kiddies disco and evening entertainment.Spoke in at least 4 different languages it caters for every one.there are kids clubs which i didn't use purely because they were all german kids and my daughter wouldn't stay.
This hotel is more geared up for the germans, french and italians, proberly because they tip more!! but they involve the english just as much.

| said: The hotel food was cold and the same everyday for lunch and dinner. Consisted of bread, tomato pasta, tinned spaghetti, veg rice, grilled salad? The tables and chairs were dirty. The hotel itself is 15 minutes taxi ride from other amenities although the beach is right on the resort but is dirty and full of broken glass and broken pottery. The entertainment was funny because it was so bad! Butlins and Kids concerts are much better. I had £100 stolen from my room and the management didn't do anything about it so theres not even any point paying for a "safety deposit box" because its not safe.
I would suggest having food hygiene inpections and withdrawing the present star rating of 3.
I stayed with my partner for a romantic first holiday abroad together for our engagement. It was paid for by my family as a present along with £100 spending money and it was a disaster from the beginning. First of all we had to wait 2 hours for our rooms, having been up at 3am England time we were hot, tired and in need of a wash. We were given no apoligies whatsoever. We were just told to have a drink at the octopus bar which was crawling with flies and warm, flat drinks. No to mention warm beer which had been poured out about 10 minutes before until someone asked for one! My partner was given a beer which had been sittin at the bar the whole time we had taken to eat lunch.
The whole reason we decided to eat all inclusive was for the alcoholic drinks but even that was a problem because it was either vodka, whisky or wine. At one point, me, my partner and 2 people we met saw the bar manager come round the octopus bar as a member of the bar staff passed him glasses from his tray and wiped them with a bed linen which was slung on the dirty sticky floor. The glasses throughout the holiday were not even washed properley and had chips in most of them! I ended up drinking from a straw. We were given 7 water tokens between two of us of 1.5 litres, we ended up buying more, i don't think you understand all inclusive means everythings included in price and that does mean bottled water! There was a family of 9 who were staying two weeks and they were given just 14 tokens between 9 of them. How are they supposed to survive on 1.5 litres a day between 9? The external toilets never had any handwash or toilet paper, i dreaded going.
The food was awful and was the same everyday lunch and dinner! It was cold and consisted of bread, tomato pasta, tinned spaghetti, beef stew, potatoes, grilled vegetables, rice. All carbohydrates of which i suffer from Iritable Bowel Syndrome and was in pain after eating. My partner had food poisoning from chicken that had been cooked in the dark on the BBQ at the Beach Party and was still raw. He was in bed for 3days of our 7 day holiday. He ate melon for the rest of the stay.
There was a very strong sewage smell throughout the resort which was strong enough to make you heave.
Our 'villa' was not much better either. The towel rail was broken off the wall and the hair dryer was very temprimental. There were ants everywhere. The bathroom was dirty and needed a good clean.
The 'Do not disturb' signs were never taken notice of and the cleaners just walked in and knocked at the same time. We had £90 stolen from our room which was hidden in our wallets inside a bag which was inside the drawer which was full of my underwear, they had gone through my personal belongings to get at it, its just plain wrong going through my underwear. We had no money left for the rest of our stay as we had paid for exgertions (which were a rip off and absolutley rubbish) and i couldn't even buy souviners or presents for my family. The hotel manager said there was nothing he could do. It ruined my holiday which was supposed to be relaxing but i spent the whole time afterwards clutching my bag and i am now in the process of explaining to my family the 'dream holiday' they paid for ended up being my worst nightmare.
I wouldn't visit this hotel again in a million years.

| said: I agree with al the comments about the excellent standards of cleanliness, entertainment, food, and friendly staff at Thalassa Village Skanes. Even though the British are totally outnumbered by the Germans,French,Italians,Russians,Poles, and Scandanavians this was not really a problem. Most staff speak reasonable English and seem to like the British. You just need to be aware. There is only one downside which you need to take into account. Although i have seen one report that aircraft noise is minimal, this is not the case. Aircraft operate throughout the night and the hotel is very close to Monastir airport. We found a good nights sleep was very difficult even using earplugs. This was a shame as everything else was great and we would return if it wasnt for that. If you are a heavy sleeper give this hotel a try!

| said: I arrived back home from the Thalassa Village last night and i'm already planning to go back in the summer, this time with my partner. The hotel was excellent, the entertainment at night was excellent and varied (even with being there for 2 weeks). During the day there was plenty to do, with board games and sport activities eg crazy golf, tennis being available.
The food was excellent and there was always plenty to eat no matter what your tastes. Me and my friend didn't try any of the Speciality restaurants as she is a vegetarian, and there is a set menu. This is one thing that the hotel could do differetly, instead of their being one set menu have a few choices for each course so that there is more choice. However the buffet in te main restaurant was varied so you don't miss out if you don't go to the Speciality Restaurants.
All the staff are very friendly, and the animation staff especially DJ Ramzi, Mona, Nadja, Cocco and Amir are excellent as they all come and talk to you, even after they've finished work. There is always staff cleaning and the place is exceptionally clean.
The main bar is open 'til 12 with the disco open until 2am.
I would recommend going to this hotel as you definately get more than you pay for. I didn't go on any of the excursions, although they seemed reasonablt priced and everyone we spoke to didn't have a bad word to say about any of them.
Well worth a visit.

| said: My husband and I visited this hotel with a couple of friends, we have been to Tunisia a few times before but it was the first time for our friends and they loved it.
The hotel is actualy not a hotel but bungalows set out around the beautiful grounds to form a villiage with its own private beach. There is a long drive leading upto it with security guards on them at all times and is kept very tidy and clean, as are the rooms they are cleaned daily and the maids are very friendly. The food was very good always lots of choice with fab deserts. The chef would make you fried eggs and omletts for breakfast just the way you wanted them, but there was always lots of other things the only problem was just what to have as the choice was so much. They also had 3 other resturants you could visit once each week A fish one, The international one and the Tunisian one where you where waited on. A nice idea but we actualy prefared the self service one. The allinclusive drinks where the usual but there was no limit on the amount you could drink. The bar closed at 11pm but then if you wished you could go onto their own night club which was again included in your all inclusive package.
The annimation team work very hard and are great Ingra, Mona and Nadia realy made our stay great, they even came and waved us off when we where leaving poor Ingra was in tears saying goodbye to the friends she had made. They also had some good payed entertainment comming in every other night.
Would I visit again. You just try and stop me

| said: We entered a beautiful marbled reception area, staffed by smartly dressed staff who were welcoming and very helpful. We walked through the reception following the porter onto the most amazingly clean and beautifully laid out bar area. Instead of a hotel we we surprised to find that it is all bungalows, which are spotless, comfortable and spacious.
We decided to walk around the complex to get our bearings and we were amazed at how many staff worked at keeping the whole place clean, an army of gardners ensured that surrounding areas were clean and well cared for. Not one corner was left uncleaned by the array of staff who constantly cleaned and polished.
The Pool area is large and spotless with plenty of seating avaiable for all. The Beach was well cared for with very soft golden sand and again plenty of places to lie down. The police paraded up and down the beach on beautiful white horses to keep the touts at bay.
Around the pool and beach areas there are plenty of places to have a drink or snacks.
The main restaurant is the place to go for food which is buffet style, all you can eat, with themed nights.
The Childrens area is far enough away that you are not disturbed by noise and yet close enough for parents to check up on the children. The staff keep the children entertained all day in a beautiful safe area.
The indoor pool is hot and clean which is entered thru the Wellness Centre whose staff are very attentive and well trained, in fact I had a massage every day, paid locally.
Now for the entertainment and what can I say about the Animation team that would do them justice? This gand worked all day and well in to the night to keep their patrons happy. Thye walked around during the day chatting to make sure you were happy, letting you know what sports or quizes were on offer all day. In the evening they started with a show for the children, when that ended they put on very professional musicals and if that wasnt enough they then went on to run the late night disco (No you cant hear the noise).
Now for the minus points you should bare in mind. Do not buy any of the gifts in the hotel shop as they are cheaper in town. For goodness sake do not be afraid to haggle or you will be charge 30 dinar instead of 9 for a taxi into town as happened to an elderly couple. The shop keeper will give you a good price for whisky if you take him some. Buy your cigarettes at Duty Free as you may not get your prefered ones in Tunisia. Single ladies should be aware that the Tunisian men will try to compromise you as they are looking for a passport.
Do not go into town half naked as you will only bring trouble in the guise of men following you. The hotel has photographers going around snapping your photos, they are not a part of the hotel but rent space from them. Take your own photos as their photographs are very expensive.
We were the only English people there during the first week and we had heard from Brits the week after that they would never go back to this hotel as there was nothing for them. We did not find this as all staff speak English and the Animation took time to find out which language you speak to ensure that you are included in everything. We made friends friends from Germany, Holland and Italy and we dont speak a word of their languages. But we got off our bums and joined in a lot of the fun. Don't be a Euro Snob expecting everyone to come to you, get up and join in the fun, you will have a great time as we did. So much so we will be going back to this fantastic hotel as soon as we can.

The food was ok a little bland but plenty to choose from. The drinks were local spirits and beer which kept running out and seemed to have little affect even when drunk to excess.the entertainment was fun and they try very hard to get the audience involed.
I was a bit dissapointed with the tea and coffee I wish I had taken my own!

The cleaners came daily with fresh towels, food was better than most A/I hotels I've stayed in with plenty of choice.
Entertainment staff worked very hard and always doing something. We thoroughly enjoyed this holiday and are returning with our parents in April.

| said: We had the most wonderful holiday here no one wanted to leave..
On arrival you need to fill in a form for each individual in your party(first choice only gave us one form) Rep did not stay with us so you had to muddle through the language barrier to get your room.
Rooms basic but cleaned daily, as for air ???? you can turn it on and off your self and set the temp as well( no need for remote)(unless other rooms are different to ours)..TV has several channels but you can change them manualy, but to be honest it was only on when i was checking the news.
Beach and Pool..we went to the beech for the first few days(i never had any problems with the heat here as there was a breeze) water was really warm, the beach staff rake the sea weed from the beech to keep it clean, beach staff constantly move on any beach sellers, so no problems there...I put our towels down at about 8 and always found plenty of sun-loungers at this time...but they soon disappeared..I think you needed to get towels at poolside down earlier..but we always found some where to sit...
Food was absolutely brilliant plenty of choice every day( oh! cakes are to die for) Staff here were so pleasant and warm (i have friends for life here) look out for Adel (waiter)and Chochree(head waiter). As for flies yes there are a few but by no means the thousands on other posts(if I was having a meal out doors I would expect flies) Ice creams and pancakes made daily at about 4ish
Entertainment was superb, if you didn't want to join in it was OK, they had something going on almost all the time...staff were very friendly..
Every member of staff here that I met were so warm to wards everyone.
When you buy from the shop here haggle..as you can get everything he sells in Monastir cheaper! He will rip you off if you just buy at marked prices, always ask whats his price is and half it or even less..they are supreme hagglers..he even asked if I had any whiskey as payment...was asked a few times in Monastir if I had any as well, was offered anything in one shop for a bottle...(I might take some next time)
I had no problems with any other nationality here no jumping cues or rudeness. Everyone i spoke to here couldnt understand the past reviews, especially Mel and Mick..
Overall this was a great Holiday and i'm going back in October..I'm sure there will be more posts like this so if you are going here have a wonderful time and tip well as they are poorly paid....

We payed to go all inclusive. Drinks served in small plastic cups, local spirits strip your stomach lining and make you very ill. Soft drinks terrible, flat, cheap and nasty. You had to pay for a bottle of water to take to your room, even on all inclusive.
The food was not shall we say Tunisian cuisine. Some nights the food was good, mostly very poor, tasteless and cold!
The staff were great but pity about the management. The animators were fantastic, they never sat still. The bar staff in were very funny and gave you extra drinks with a wink of an eye for a few dinars. If you really got on with them you would be given glasses.
Oh, and the flies were shocking and in your face 24/7!

| said: We arrived on Sunday 18 September and left on Monday 19 September. This has to be the worst hotel we have ever been to. We arrived and were told by the porter "I give you the best room". Well if this was the best, what would the worst be like.
The door handle was off the inside of the door. The electricity was not on, the toilet was not working and there were cockroaches and lizards in the bathroom.
Outside the back door were 2 seats and stench of sewage was over powering. We went to reception to discuss all these issues and to change a Scottish £20.00 note and was told that they did not accept this money as it was not sterling.
Amazingly enough the Hotel Houda (where we ended up) took our money with no questions asked. I would not recomend this hotel to anyone and gave us a rather bitter taste about Tunisia on the whole.
Please think seriously about this hotel before booking. We walked round the complex and at one side of the pool area there was about 5 feet of stagnant water and the stench coming from that again was over powering.

| said: We stayed for two weeks at the end of July beginning of August and were a little disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the hotel.
Flies are a big problem in the restaurant and I think this led to most of our party having continually stomach upsets.
However the food was of a good standard and there was always plenty of choice.
Getting a drink in the bar in the evening can become a bit of a chore after a few days ( only one bar open after 6pm ) and if your only drinking soft drinks you quickly resort to buying your own from the local shop. Tip the waiter in the bar and he will produce some bigger glasses for you ( saves you from queueing so often ). The general way in Tunisia seems to be if you tip you can expect first class service so make sure you budget for the extra expense if you want your holiday to be a pleasant experience.
The entertainment staff were excellent throughout the holiday and worked really hard to ensure the kids had a great time.
The overall holiday was relaxing and pleasant and you just have to make the best of what you have there.
I wouldn't visit Tunisia again but I can't say I didn't enjoy it either.

| said: We have travelled to Tunisia 3 times as we enjoy the different culture and experiences. While at Club Skanes Gardens we did not expect it to be like Spain or Blackpool as we know Tunisia is very different. When arriving at the grounds we did feel they needed some maintenance but as we arrived at reception we saw how clean and tidy the area was.
The dining area was very busy and the food was repetitive but there was always something that could feed a hungry mouth. The beach bar served English food from 10 till 6 which was enjoyable.
The staff were very helpful but we found tipping bar staff and waiters very small amounts leads to excellent service.
The animation team are very friendly and want to make your holiday as enjoyable as you want it to be.
Isaam the First Choice rep done a fantastic job.
We worked hard to get a holiday so why sit and moan when you should be making the most of it?

The hotel was very clean and could not have asked for more, the maids were great.
The food was varied and repetitive but you had the choice I didn’t have a problem with the food it might not be to some peoples taste.
The hotel Staff were so friendly and helpful and do anything to make sure you had an excellent holiday.
The entertainment was excellent! It was different every night. The animators put a lot of work in and would do anything so you will enjoy your holiday. The animators are very good looking so look out for Sam and Ben! The Chi Chi boy who sold peanuts was a laugh but it was shame how long he had to work in a day.

We stayed for two weeks, and this didn't seem long enough. It felt like we had only been there for a couple of days.
We were never bored or disappointed with the hotel and there was always plenty to do with the activities on offer. Golf, tennis, french bowls, table tennis, aerobics etc. We tried everything! And it was all free.
The hotel was very clean, and our room was cleaned daily. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
The food was lovely, and neither of us were ill, which is a mircale on holiday!
The beach was a stones throw away, but we didn't really feel the need to go, as the poolside was clean and the pool was amazing.
It was definitely value for money. You could get away with spending £10 if you don't plan on doing any of the trips.
We have already booked our return trip for October, it's just a pity we can't stay for more than a week this time.

| said: First Choice have a cheek advertising this as a "relaxing" holiday. If I wanted to be pestered by salesman I would stay at home - it was relentless, you could not even go in for a newspaper without the hard sell - I got sick of it after a while - the photographer was the worst of all, I know how celebrities feel with paparazzi now.
The biggest problem was the close relationship the Rep had with the hotel though, the first day we were there the manager was sitting with him and they were discussing a guest who had complained and the Rep wanted him to stop - not solve the problem, just stop complaining, we did not feel we could take complaints to this Rep at all.
The room smelled of raw sewage for five straight days, again we could not complain as there was an atmosphere of veiled intimidation whenever the Rep was there - always with a member of staff, when you could find him.
It was a complete waste of hard earned money and I would encourage people not to go. I could go on further here as I would be typing for several hours as to how bad it was.

| said: We stayed at Skanes Club Garden but prior to departure we read the reviews on this hotel and thought that we had made a terrible mistake!!However the following points may help other holidaymakers:
On arrival at 2300 the reception staff could not have been more helpful. The room was clean tidy and well appointed. A safe is available for rent. The air conditioning worked really well and was used every day!
We found the hotel to be very clean and tidy with just a HINT of the sewage smell if you stood next to the sewer in the heat of the midday sun with the wind in the wrong direction!!
Yes the dining room is buffet style.
The food was fine with something for everyone even my wife ate well and she is really fussy but you are in Tunisia and some of the food is spicy but if you dont like it choose another dish! The sweet desserts were very good. There was not the plague of flies we were led to believe we only saw about a dozen during our two week stay.
The hotel is right on the beach and is just excellent for chilling out. It is in the middle of nowhere but a short and cheap taxi ride will get you to Sousse or Monastir and all the hassle you could ever want!
We found the hotel staff to be pleasent friendly people who responded well to a smile and please and thankyou. They had to put up with some really rude and bullish guests but always managed a smile. We got to know the deputy manager who was a really nice man who would sort anything out for you if he could.
The entertainers worked their hearts out to make sure the children were kept busy. Yes the evening childrens show is the same every night but they all knew the words and dance steps and would wait patiently for it to start. Later entertainment was different every night.
My wife and I liked this hotel so much we WILL return as soon as we can.
So to recap:
It is hot and sunny so if you dont like the heat dont go.
The food is basic and plentiful but some of it is spicy
if you dont like it choose something else.
If you want to be in the middle of a bustling community this hotel is not for you.
Great staff that always had a smile for you.

Location was good, right next to the beach and most of the excursions were close by.
I thought the hotel was very clean! Maids cleaned room every morning, and left flower petals on the beds!
The pool area was fab - really clean and a good atmosphere!
The doughnut/ peanut boy was very funny and the doughnuts were lovely!
The food was good but a bit repetitive, but that’s what you expect while abroad! I never saw 1 fly in the restaurant and did not smell any sewage, and the waiters were constantly cleaning up after guests! And if you make an effort to be polite - they treat you very well!
Especially if you are English!
The entertainment lads were excellent! They worked very hard and long hours! They were always chatty and would do anything to help. They were brilliant with all the children! It’s best to get involved from the beginning of your holiday - they then try to make your holiday as fun as possible! And look out girls - some were quite cute! I thought the entertainment was good, depending on what you like! And the disco was better than expected - good if you are young and like dancing!
The First Choice rep was very good and helped with any problem!
I didn’t want to leave!
I would definitely go back again!

| said: Skanes Gardens (pronounced SKANNAS)
If Skanes had a McDonalds the question would be: "Would you like flies with that?”
Flies are a pain --- especially at breakfast and lunchtimes. Not so bad at dinner - they've obviously gorged themselves stupid during the day and need their rest. The most sensible thing to do would be to ignore them but of course this is impossible and much time is spent flicking them away from your food, your nose, and other orifices. An entertaining indoor sport is to see how many flies you can swat with a flip-flop --- keep a daily tally!
TIP Bring a fly swatter with you!
FOOD
If you're expecting bacon, sausage and egg for breakfast and steak, chips and peas for dinner - you're going to be disappointed.
The type and arrangement of food is similar day to day but, to be fair, there is variety.
Breakfast - cereals, fried potato, tomatoes with parmesan cheese, maybe strips of ham with rice, maybe scrambled or fried eggs, always boiled eggs. French bread and vegetables, assorted jams and marmalades, salad and fruit, tea, coffee, squash at every meal.
Lunch - white or yellow rice, two or three varieties of meat e.g. beef, lamb or chicken. Mixed vegetables e.g. carrots, peas, aubergines, etc. Soup of the day at lunch and dinner. Loads of sweet stuff - cakes, pastries. Huge assortment of salads and fruit.
Dinner - similar setup to lunch.
White, red or rose wines available with lunch and dinner.
If you do fancy a change, pick up a yellow taxi outside Reception --- ask for the Safari Bar (only a few minutes ride), ask how much before you go (should be 5TD - £2.50 or so). Does nice pizzas and sandwiches, inexpensive. How about an egg and chip butty or an 'all day breakfast'? Also cold bottled beer and a big screen TV for footie games. Or go farther afield to a restaurant perhaps to Al Kantatoui --- taxis are cheap.
TIP If you have a sensitive stomach make sure you bring Imodium or similar with you and maybe some of those stomach-settling anti-bacterial salts from the Chemist. Stick to bottled water (very cheap), avoid ice in drinks and be aware that some of the food is quite spicy. I'm convinced that a regular intake of beer and much experience of Ruby Murray’s meant that spicy food held no fears for me!
TIP Chaps - electrical points are 220 volts two pin --- different to ours so your rechargeable shaver two pin plug isn't going to fit! Make sure your shaver is fully charged and maybe have a wet shave or two. Ladies - unless you have one of those fancy truly universal adaptors your hair dryer isn't going to work.
DRINK
The local beer is o.k. and there is plenty of it. You are usually given your drink in a plastic tumbler (about a third of a pint) but you can always get two at a time and if you pester the bar staff they will eventually find you a small glass. You will encounter queues but plenty of people got themselves 3 or 4 drinks at a time and if it was only beer that you wanted in the evening then there were always already poured out for you to help yourself from. I did see some enterprising individuals who had brought pint glasses with them --- the bar staff will fill them up although it definitely helps to smile and be friendly and polite. There are local spirits such as Whisky and Vodka or you can go for red, rose or white wine. Plenty of soft drinks.
DOWNSIDE
Muhammad --- dawn to dusk wandering round the site trying to find someone new to agree to go see his carpet factory, leather warehouse, etc. Big smile, he shakes your hand, you’re his best friend etc. --- he tells you there is no obligation and finally he persuades you to visit his factory. We chickened out of the trip after someone told us Muhammad left his guests at the carpet factory for a couple of hours till they felt pressured into buying something. Suddenly we were no longer his ‘best friend’ --- no loss there then!
‘Chi Chi’ --- the peanut vendor. Nice lad, 15, works hard but can get on your nerves constantly pestering to sell his peanuts or doughnuts.
The ‘Ali Baba’ camel trip dude and the Pirate Ship geezer --- dawn to dusk wandering round the site trying to find…… etc. etc.
Some of the taxi drivers haven’t discovered the joys of anti-perspirant.
THINGS TO DO
Crazy golf --- never saw it being used. Paragliding, banana boat, jet ski. Indoor and outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, gym, massage. Pool tables, disco, tennis, water polo, volleyball. Some entertainment in the main bar in the evenings (if your ears are delicate, avoid the belly dancer cabaret – the dancing’s o.k. but the guy playing the thingy that looks like a snake charmer’s ‘flute’ sounds like he’s strangling a cat and the cat’s not too pleased about it!).
And of course………….. Sunbathing and drinking…..
Plenty of excursions to choose from – the two-day Sahara jobbie is apparently superb but very tiring (journey of 700 miles or so). Went on the trip to see the holy city and the amphitheatre (a la the Coliseum in Rome) where ‘Gladiator’ was filmed. The amphitheatre was great and we would all have liked more time there. One downside of that excursion was the stop-off at a carpet factory for 40 minutes or so --- this was not in the itinerary and was supposedly a chance to see marvelous craftsmanship i.e. local slave-labour making hand-made carpets but was really an attempted hard-sell affair.
RESORT STAFF
There’s an old saying that ‘You get out of life what you put into it’ and I think that’s fair. Staff had to put up with some rude and ill-mannered guests and I think it’s understandable that some of them got a bit fed up with it. I found that if you were pleasant and polite then it went a long way towards getting on well with the staff and I have no complaints. It costs nothing to be polite and to have a smile on your face.
Like quite a few other holidaymakers at Skanes Gardens I booked at the last minute and it wasn’t a hugely expensive two weeks. All-inclusive and it was reasonable value for money. There were approximately 800 people on-site and the English contingent was about 60. We were very much the minority, the largest group were the Russians followed by Czechs, Germans, French, Dutch and others.
If anyone has a specific question I’ll try to answer it, email me at IvebeentoSkanesGardens@limitedsedition.co.uk

| said: Well where do I start?? Shambles waste of hard earned money...
I found our room was very clean it was cleaned on a daily basis to a very good standard. The maids worked very hard and are an asset to the hotel. As for the communal toilets and restraunts they were an utter disgrace toilets were filthy mainly the beachside toilets I ended up walking back to my room each time I needed to go.
Poolside cleaned each morning which is nice to know.
If you’re English I am sure you will starve. Salad for breakfast lunch and dinner... (No joke). We found breakfast to be the scraps from the night before mainly salad and stale bread.
Choices limited I stuck to coffee but that took 15 minutes to be served too.
Meat is very gristly salad was washed in their own water which caused very bad stomach cramps. We found the snack bar at the beach to be edible food for the first few days, as an alternative to buffet.
This changed we experienced the chefs making our food extremely salty so we could not eat it, a few days later I ordered pizza to my horror this has a helping of sand on it (not requested asked for ham got sand). Complained to manager, he explained he had several similar complaints so some staff were sacked from snack bar...
I never did eat a full meal properly flies dominated the food, I agree it was like school dinner queues plates rammed in your back from fellow Europeans pushed out of way so others could get to counters.. Simply hideous. Sure people who have been will be aware of what I mean. Never any cutlery but I did find out if you tipped waiters you had a table reserved with clean cutlery and glasses. There’s so much more I could go on to say.
This holiday was not what I was expecting and am glad to be back in cold England. I was ready to return after my first week. I have been on all inclusive before and I don’t think what I paid for was all inclusive. I am extremely disappointed with this hotel I would not send my worst enemy there. I will be writing to first choice and explaining what I experienced.
Thankfully I expressed my feelings to my rep and he totally agreed with me. He told me he was glad to be leaving next week. The hotel was advertised as a 3 star plus but before we arrived it was dropped to a 2 star!! Why???
Same 12 songs night in night out!! Complete rubbish!!
Glad I took my anti-depressants they helped a little. Never again I tell myself. Never. First choice has now dropped this hole sorry hotel out of their brochure for next year... No surprise.

You queue for drinks and then get a small plastic cup of beer, so you queue again. You will never get drunk and the choice of alcoholic beverages is very limited.
The toilets require a lot to be desired, ones close to the bar, and smelt of raw sewage.
The rooms were OK, and the maid was excellent.
Entertainment was very childish and amateur, although the guys did try very hard and were full of enthusiasm.

The entertainment staff were all good and worked hard, the bar staff were so rude it was unreal. beer served in a 1/2 pint glass which was only half filled or plastic cups.

| said: The hotel was not the cleanest but passable room ok although some had awful smell of sewerage. They will soon move you if you complain.
The food was awful, poor quality, repetitive, poor choice, cold (there was a microwave we were told, when we complained, to heat food in)nothing for kids, although the manager agreed to have one meal a day cooked especially for the kids, i.e. burgers, but it was only for our group and had to be requested at the meal time. Queues for everthing all the time, like the second world war.
There was an open sewer between the beach bar and hotel restaurant which was frquented by many flies which I imagine visited the snack bar and restaurant that were very close by.
We all had digestive upsets lasting about 2 days with constant loose bowels. There were flies on everything, epecially the uncoverd foods like cheese, salad, the only cold meat which was spam, open bowls of yoghurt, preserves, fruit and desserts.
Food recycled, leftover lunch appeared at dinner etc., we mainly lived on french sticks and melon. Drinks either too stong or well watered in restaurant, no chilled wine, beer ok, fizzy drinks tasted strange and were often flat and warm. Poor choice of drinks, we bought from the shop along with snacks as we were hungry.
Staff mostly ok but the males can be predetory with the young females. Entertainment, dont bother, childish, amaturish and repetative, only one act brought in during fornight and they were poor.
Loud music, always same cd's, kids entertinment same every night. The entertainment team worked very hard with no props or skills in their work, although they really tried (under impossible circumstances) and had lots of enthusiasm.
Swimming pool ok except the underwater lighting kept falling out. The life guard was either sunbathing or chatting to young female quests, didnt look at pool very much. The grounds of the hotel were like a scrubland and poorly maintained, weeds everywhere. Hotel isolated, nothing there at all. My advice, dont go here.

| said: We stayed on an all inclusive option as with kids it is usually the best value for money. Food was passable but by the end of the second week we were fed up of it. I love meat, but it was on the menu every day and cooked in spices (we all had the funny tummy syndrome!!) Breakfast was appalling no variety at all and you are ok if you like coissants, frankfurter sausages (cold!) and tomatoes. no full english here cos the Tunisians are Muslims they dont do pork apparantley even though it was on the menu at night time!!
The hotel was very clean and all staff were friendly especially when they got to know you.
The reps (all Tunisian) were excellent and they made out holiday. They was nothing they wouldnt do to make our time there fun and we laughed daily with all of them. My daughter, aged 9, fell in love with the DJ and he took her for lunch on a few occassions!! he didnt have to at all but wanted to
They do a bingo night every 2 nights and that could take a while as they have to shout it in about 5 different languages but when you've had alcohol it makes it less painfull. We won loads of prizes including paragliding, banana boat, horse riding and a camel. The best part of the hotel was the swimming pool. It was spotless and regularly cleaned and checked.
The hotel had recently been taken over and they were very willing to listen to ideas to make it a better place. We would go back again in a few years to see if they have managed it!!

Now for the bad part! Where do we start, flies in the restaurant, school dinner queues for everything (well us brits queued!) Constantly asking for cutlery, glasses and the fact that you certainly didn’t get drunk at this hotel!! (Queues again!)
Evening entertainment, we got used to the same songs at the kiddies disco each night, poor kids! I will say that the entertainment staff worked extremely hard and never seemed to have a day off! Some of the staff were pleasant others wouldn’t give you the time of day especially if you refused their `free' trips!

| said: The rooms were very clean and practically furnished. The standard of cleaning in the rooms was excellent.
The standard of cleanliness in the communal areas often left much to be desired. In particular the dining room was very poor. Shortly into the sitting for each meal, cutlerly and crockery was scarce and was replaced only occassionally. Tables were not cleaned unless requested. There was always a large number of flies in the dining hall, these were on the tables and also on the food in the buffet, granted this is always going to be a problem, but there was absolutly no evidence of any effort being made to reduce the number of flies, this really put us off the food to be honest.
The food itself was ok, but got very repetetive throughout the week, and vegetarians would find it difficult on all but the occaisional day!
The staff in the hotel varied. In particular, the guys in the bars, especially the main evening bar deserve thorough praise. There were too few of them, who worked extremely hard to keep up with the queues, which at times were terrible. Also the maids did a very good job and were always pleasant. If up to me these guys would be running the hotel!!! On the other hand, the staff effort in the dining room was not too good, see previous comments about lack of facilities, cutlery etc. At one point I had to queue over 15 minutes to get a coffee at breakfast!!!
The service at meal times was just not acceptable.
The location was good for its proximity to the beach, but anything else requires a trip to at least Sousse or Monastir, ok its only a cheap short taxi ride, but it meant that you are at the mercy of the hotels facilities much of the time, and frankly they just do not cut it!!! There is a small town nearby called 'Sahline' but this offers very little other than a few small shops and a metro train line to the other main cities ( quite handy though)
We didn't really make much use of the entertainment, mainly because we just wanted to get away from the hotel. From what we saw however, the entertainment staff seemed to work hard, but it wasn't really our kind of thing and to be honest much of what we saw was a bit on the amatuerish side. They did seem popular with the children however. The music was also very loud at times and could also be heard right at the bottom of the beach! So think carefully.
In all, we couldn't honestly recommend this hotel. it probably to be fair wasn't to our tastes, but the levels of cleanliness in certain areas, incuding toilets and dining room (see above) and the questionable service, in our opinion, would be sufficient to urge anybody considerinbg a trip to think carefully and probably consider a different hotel.

| said: My parent's sister and I went to club skanes gardens a few years ago, on our first and only holiday with first choice. What was supposed to be a relaxing break turned into my worst holiday ever. The food was terrible, and not because it was spicy or anything like that it just, tasted and looked awful, it was cold, and usually looked like reheated leftovers. I'll always remember one meal in particular where all I ate was bread, one of the main meals was a stew which appeared to consist of breakfast and previous day left overs, when I later when to use the toilet facilities, every toilet and sink was full of the regurgitated food, they were filthy!-this was our second day there.
We had no hot water for showers until 10 days later after constant visits to the reception desk. On the whole the staff who cleaned our room weren't too bad although we had major problems with cockroaches, and ants.
There was also an extremely strong smell of sewage outside our room, which after a few days entered our room. at our welcome meeting our rep warned us that we would get ill- if first choice knew there was a problem- why not do something about it- our rep nice as he was never ate in the restaurant, and told us he bought food he ate in his room.
The pool was nice enough, and the general daytime activities that took place around the pool, and on the nearby beach were ok, and entertainment staff, and waiters were friendly enough.
But this wasn't enough to lift our spirits. we suffered for 14 days and the meal we had on the plane home was the best thing we'd eaten for weeks.
My parents suffered from stomach aches and sickness, -according to our family doctor food poisoning. Being miles from anywhere also meant we couldn't just walk over the road to another restaurant like in some resorts, we had previously been to.
This was our first time with first choice, and our last. on returning home we sent a written complaint stating this- and what did we get after spending all that money? a £250 discount voucher off our next holiday with first choice!
This holiday was the worst I have ever been on, I would advise everyone who intends to go not to. Thanks to that hotel I have a phobia of cockroaches, and due to my diet of mainly, bread and ice cream I lost a stone in weight.

The rooms were quite roomy and were cleaned every day.Food was buffet style and got very repetitive, seemed to be the same for lunch and dinner. The location of the hotel was right on the beach, which was nice, but otherwise it was very isolated. There was nowhere to stroll to in the evening. The staff were all very friendly and worked very hard.
